The article provides information on the expedition of John Narborough in the viceroyalty of Peru from 1669 to 1671 including foreign incursions into colonial Spanish America in the period, political realities and colonialism. Topics include administration of Spain, establishment of commercial ties and knowledge of sailing routes to Chile.

The article discusses a 1797 inventory of the religious art collection of María Angela Cachicatari, a wealthy indigenous Andean woman living in Spanish colonial Peru. Such private art collections are seen as offering insights into many aspects of the colonial Andes region, such as the social role of art collecting for indigenous Andeans and the nature of Andean Catholicism. The art trade in the Viceroyalty of Peru is discussed, as are the Catholic themes popular in 17th- and 18th-century colonial Andean art.
