Deliberate firesetting research predominantly focuses on apprehended populations. In contrast, this paper focuses on the prevalence and characteristics of un-apprehended firesetters living in the UK. Social media was utilized to recruit 232 participants for an online questionnaire. Two hundred and twenty-five people answered a question relating to deliberate firesetting. Forty participants (17.78%) indicated that they had ignited a deliberate fire and were classified as un-apprehended firesetters. Firesetting was most common in childhood and adolescence. Relative to non-firesetters, un-apprehended deliberate firesetters were more likely to report; a diagnoses of a psychiatric illness, a diagnosis of a behavioural problem, having been suspended from school, a history of suicide attempts, experimenting with fire before the age of 10 years old, and having a family member who also ignited a deliberate fire. Concern about the welfare of professional dance students is growing as it becomes clearer that the training is not producing emotionally healthy and mature young people. Psychodynamic ideas and concepts offer a means of analysing the problems of the training and indicating where change needs to be implemented. This paper looks first at the areas of adolescent development towards separation, autonomy, the creation of peer relationships and the development of sexual identity and awareness, and shows how traditional dance training fails to facilitate their growth. The paper then discusses envy and competition and argues that they need to be addressed within dance training if they are not to be so destructive. The paper then suggests that group theory could enable the better use of the dance class. Finally, the idea of the body storyline is used to show that dance training has the capacity to have a creative and remedial effect on students, if training institutions provide a sufficiently facilitating environment. Panic attacks are common in adolescents and are experienced in several mental health difficulties. In adults, cognitions during panic attacks comprise mental images as well as thoughts. No qualitative research into panic attacks has been conducted with adolescents. Better understanding of the experience of panic attacks, including the presence and nature of mental images, may improve treatments. Nine adolescents (15–18 years) completed a semi-structured interview exploring experiences of panic attacks. Data was analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Six superordinate themes reflected the intense nature of having a panic attack, being unable to think and fearing losing control of one's mind, a disconnect in feeling the panic attack would never end versus knowing from experience that it would, feeling completely out of control during the attack, feeling embarrassment and shame, feeling cut-off and isolated from others, and trying to find ways to cope through distraction, avoidance and learning to understand the thoughts. Mental images enhanced the intensity of panic. Several aspects of the findings were consistent with the cognitive model of panic disorder in adults. The impact of panic on normative adolescent developmental tasks is discussed. Interventions should be adapted for adolescents' developmental stage and consider any mental images. Time Perspective researchers are concerned with the way in which a combination of thoughts and feelings about the past, present and future influence behaviour. Time attitudes comprise a dimension of time perspective where the focus is narrowed to evaluative feelings about the three time periods. The present study included four waves of data gathered in the United Kingdom, and focused on time attitudes. Participants were adolescents in High schools who completed both the Adolescent and Adult Time Inventory-Time Attitudes Scale, at waves one to three (corresponding to High school years 1 to 3), and surveys of heavy episodic drinking (HED) and drunkenness at wave four (year 4 of High school). Four time attitudes profiles were identified (Positives, Negatives, Negative Futures, and Ambivalents), and the majority of adolescents (75.2%) transitioned between profiles at least once during the three waves of data collection. Fully adjusted analyses tentatively supported the relationship between having a positive time attitudes profile and reduced levels of HED, frequency of lifetime drunkenness, and age of first of drunkenness, with small to moderate effect sizes. Results suggested that the development and maintenance of a positive time attitudes profile might be protective against problematic drinking behaviour in adolescence. Consistent with related studies, it is clear that some time attitudes profiles are associated with less risky and healthier alcohol use behaviours than others, which has implications for possible intervention for problematic drinkers. Due to the success of antiretroviral (ART) medications, young people living with perinatally acquired HIV (PHIV+) are now surviving into adolescence and young adulthood. Understanding factors influencing ART non-adherence in this group is important in developing effective adherence interventions. Most studies of ART adherence in HIV-positive populations assess differences in adherence levels and adherence predictorsbetweenparticipants, over a period of time (global adherence). Many individuals living with HIV, however, including PHIV+ young people, take medication inconsistently. To investigate this pattern of adherence, awithin-participants design, focussing on specific episodes of adherence and non-adherence, is suitable (episodic adherence). A within-participants design was used with 29 PHIV+ young people (17 female, median age 17 years, range 14–22 years), enrolled in the UK Adolescents and Adults Living with Perinatal HIV cohort study. Participants were eligible if they could identify one dose of medication taken and one dose they had missed in the previous two months. For each of the two episodes (one adherent, one non-adherent), behavioural factors (whom they were with, location, routine, day, reminders) and psychological factors at the time of the episode (information about medication, adherence motivation, perceived behavioural skills to adhere to medication – derived from the Information-Motivation-Behavioural Skills (IMB) Model – and affect) were assessed in a questionnaire. Non-adherence was significantly associated with weekend days (Friday to Sunday versus Monday to Thursday,p = .001), lack of routine (p = .004), and being out of the home (p = .003), but not with whom the young person was with or whether they were reminded to take medication. Non-adherence was associated with lower levels of behavioural skills (p < .001), and lower positive affect (p = .005). Non-adherence was not significantly associated with negative affect, information about ART, or ART motivation. Aim: We sought to ascertain the current nature of specialist community mental health provision for young people presenting with risk of harm to others or involvement with the youth justice system in England, Wales and Scotland.Methods: Questionnaire-based survey.Results: Fifty-five services were contacted, 48 responded and 35 of these were found to be providing some form of community mental health provision to high-risk young people. Thirteen services provided comprehensive community forensic child and adolescent mental health (FCAMH) services, whilst the remainder offered more ad hoc clinical input. Amongst the comprehensive FCAMH services, staffing, function, commissioning arrangements and population served varied widely.Conclusions: There is patchy geographical provision of comprehensive community FCAMH services across England, Scotland and Wales with heterogeneous commissioning arrangements, staffing and function. Development of a national commissioning strategy for community FCAMH services is required to ensure that the complex needs of high-risk young people are adequately addressed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Relatively few studies have investigated the prevalence of young females with sexually abusive behaviours, and there is a lack of research comparing females with sexually abusive behaviours to a sample of non-sexually abusive delinquent females. The current pilot study explored the prevalence of sexually abusive behaviours in a sample of delinquent females referred to an outpatient Forensic Adolescent Consultation and Treatment Service (FACTS). A retrospective casenote study was conducted to compare the characteristics, offending behaviours and mental health of those with sexually abusive behaviours to their non-sexually abusive peers. Of the 258 females in the study, 31 (12%) presented with sexually abusive behaviours. Consistent with previous studies, females with sexually abusive behaviours were significantly more likely to have been victims of abuse themselves and to have learning disabilities/difficulties. They were less likely to engage in other antisocial behaviours, including aggression and violence, criminal damage, self-harm and substance misuse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
