The printing process of box packaging paper can generate volatile organic compounds, resulting in odors that impact product quality and health. An efficient, objective, and cost-effective detection method is urgently needed. We utilized a self-developed electronic nose system to test four different cigarette packaging paper samples. Employing multivariate statistical methods like Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), and Similarity-based Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (SIMCA), we analyzed and processed the collected data. Comprehensive evaluation and quality control models were constructed to assess sample stability and distinguish odors. Results indicate that our electronic nose system rapidly detects odors and effectively performs quality control. By establishing models for quality stability control, we successfully identified samples with acceptable quality and those with odors. To further validate the system's performance and extend its applications, we collected two types of cigarette packaging paper samples with odor data. Using data augmentation techniques, we expanded the dataset and achieved an accuracy rate of 0.9938 through classification and discrimination. The utilization of electrochemical detection techniques in paper-based analytical devices (PADs) has revolutionized point-of-care (POC) testing, enabling the precise and discerning measurement of a diverse array of (bio)chemical analytes. The application of electrochemical sensing and paper as a suitable substrate for point-of-care testing platforms has led to the emergence of electrochemical paper-based analytical devices (ePADs). The inherent advantages of these modified paper-based analytical devices have gained significant recognition in the POC field. In response, electrochemical biosensors assembled from paper-based materials have shown great promise for enhancing sensitivity and improving their range of use. In addition, paper-based platforms have numerous advantageous characteristics, including the self-sufficient conveyance of liquids, reduced resistance, minimal fabrication cost, and environmental friendliness. This study seeks to provide a concise summary of the present state and uses of ePADs with insightful commentary on their practicality in the field. Forecasting has extreme importance in industry due to the numerous competitive advantages that it provides, allowing to foresee what might happen and adjust management decisions accordingly. Industries increasingly use sensors, which allow for large-scale data collection. Big datasets enable training, testing and application of complex predictive algorithms based on machine learning models. The present paper focuses on predicting values from sensors installed on a pulp paper press, using data collected over three years. The variables analyzed are electric current, pressure, temperature, torque, oil level and velocity. The results of XGBoost and artificial neural networks, with different feature vectors, are compared. The advent of digital technology has revolutionized numerous aspects of modern life, including the field of assessment and testing. However, paper tests, despite their seemingly archaic nature, continue to hold a prominent position in various assessment domains. The accessibility, familiarity, security, cost-effectiveness, and versatility of paper tests collectively contribute to their continued prominence. Hence, numerous educational institutions responsible for conducting examinations involving a substantial number of candidates continue to rely on paper tests. Consequently, there arises a demand for the possibility of automated assessment of these tests, aiming to alleviate the burden on teaching staff, enhance objectivity in evaluation, and expedite the delivery of test results. Therefore, diverse software systems have been developed, showcasing the capability to automatically score specific question types. Thus, it becomes imperative to categorize related question types systematically, thereby facilitating a preliminary classification based on the content and format of the questions. This classification serves the purpose of enabling effective comparison among existing software solutions. In this research paper, we present the implementation of such a software system using artificial intelligence techniques, progressively expanding its capabilities to evaluate increasingly complex question types, with the ultimate objective of achieving a comprehensive evaluation of all question types encountered in paper-based tests. The system detailed above demonstrated a recognition success rate of 99.89% on a curated dataset consisting of 734,825 multiple-choice answers. For the matching type, it achieved a recognition success rate of 99.91% on 86,450 answers. This review analyzes the most influential artificial intelligence (AI) studies in health and life sciences from the past three years, delineating the evolving role of AI in these fields. We identified and analyzed the top 50 cited articles on AI in biomedicine, revealing significant trends and thematic categorizations, including Drug Development, Real-World Clinical Implementation, and Ethical and Regulatory Aspects, among others. Our findings highlight a predominant focus on AIs application in clinical settings, particularly in diagnostics, telemedicine, and medical education, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergence of AlphaFold marked a pivotal moment in protein structure prediction, catalyzing a cascade of related research and signifying a broader shift towards AI-driven approaches in biological research. The review underscores AIs pivotal role in disease subtyping and patient stratification, facilitating a transition towards more personalized medicine strategies. Furthermore, it illustrates AIs impact on biology, particularly in parsing complex genomic and proteomic data, enhancing our capabilities to disentangle complex, interconnected molecular processes. Document classification is an important area in Natural Language Processing (NLP). Because a huge amount of scientific papers have been published at an accelerating rate, it is beneficial to carry out intelligent paper classifications, especially fine-grained classification for researchers. However, a public scientific paper dataset for fine-grained classification is still lacking, so the existing document classification methods have not been put to the test. To fill this vacancy, we designed and collected the PaperNet-Dataset that consists of multi-modal data (texts and figures). PaperNet 1.0 version contains hierarchical categories of papers in the fields of computer vision (CV) and NLP, 2 coarse-grained and 20 fine-grained (7 in CV and 13 in NLP). We ran current mainstream models on the PaperNet-Dataset, along with a multi-modal method that we propose. Interestingly, none of these methods reaches an accuracy of 80% in fine-grained classification, showing plenty of room for improvement. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, many works have been published proposing solutions to the problems that arose in this scenario. In this vein, one of the topics that attracted the most attention is the development of computer-based strategies to detect COVID-19 from thoracic medical imaging, such as chest X-ray (CXR) and computerized tomography scan (CT scan). By searching for works already published on this theme, we can easily find thousands of them. This is partly explained by the fact that the most severe worldwide pandemic emerged amid the technological advances recently achieved, and also considering the technical facilities to deal with the large amount of data produced in this context. Even though several of these works describe important advances, we cannot overlook the fact that others only use well-known methods and techniques without a more relevant and critical contribution. Hence, differentiating the works with the most relevant contributions is not a trivial task. The number of citations obtained by a paper is probably the most straightforward and intuitive way to verify its impact on the research community. Aiming to help researchers in this scenario, we present a review of the top-100 most cited papers in this field of investigation according to the Google Scholar search engine. We evaluate the distribution of the top-100 papers taking into account some important aspects, such as the type of medical imaging explored, learning settings, segmentation strategy, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), and finally, the dataset and code availability. Machine learning (ML) has become increasingly popular in the prediction of debris flow occurrence, but the various ML models utilized as baseline predictors reported in previous studies are typically limited to individual case bases. A comprehensive and systematic evaluation of existing empirical evidence on the utilization of ML as baseline predictors for debris flow occurrence is lacking. To address this gap, we conducted a meta-analysis of ML-based prediction modeling of debris flow occurrence by retrieving papers that were published between 2000 and 2023 from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The general findings were as follows: (1) A total of 84 papers, distributed across 37 different journals in this time period, reflecting an overall upward trend. (2) Debris flow disasters occur throughout the world, and a total of 13 countries carried out research on the prediction of debris flow occurrence based on ML; China made significant contributions, but more research efforts in African countries should be considered. (3) A total of 36 categories of ML models were utilized as baseline predictors for debris flow occurrence, with logistic regression (LR) and random forest (RF) emerging as the most popular choices. (4) Feature engineering and model comparison were the most commonly utilized strategies in predicting debris flow occurrence based on ML (53 and 46 papers, respectively). (5) Interpretation methods were rarely utilized in predicting debris flow occurrence based on ML, with only 16 papers reporting their utilization. (6) In the prediction of debris flow occurrence based on ML, interpretation methods were rarely utilized, searching by data materials was the most important sample data source, the topographic factors were the most commonly utilized category of candidate variables, and the area under the ROC curve (AUROC) was the most frequently reported evaluation metric. (7) LR's prediction performance for debris flow occurrence was inferior to that of RF, BPNN, and SVM; SVM was comparable to RF, and all superior to BPNN. (8) The application process for the prediction of debris flow occurrence based on ML consisted of three main steps: data preparation, model construction and evaluation, and prediction outcomes. The research gaps in predicting debris flow occurrence based on ML include utilizing new ML techniques and enhancing the interpretability of ML. The paper reports the results of a comparative assessment concerned with the effectiveness of identifying the basic forms of partial discharges (PD) measured by the acoustic emission technique (AE), carried out by application of selected machine learning methods. As part of the re-search, the identification involved AE signals registered in laboratory conditions for eight basic classes of PDs that occur in paper-oil insulation systems of high-voltage power equipment. On the basis of acoustic signals emitted by PDs and by application of the frequency descriptor that took the form of a signal power density spectrum (PSD), the assessment involved the possibility of identifying individual types of PD by the analyzed classification algorithms. As part of the research, the results obtained with the use of five independent classification mechanisms were analyzed, namely: k-Nearest Neighbors method (kNN), Naive Bayes Classification, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forests and Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN). The best results were achieved using the SVM classification tuned with polynomial core, which obtained 100% accuracy. Similar results were achieved with the kNN classifier. Random Forests and Naïve Bayes obtained high accuracy over 97%. Throughout the study, identification algorithms with the highest effectiveness in identifying specific forms of PD were established. The growing demand for various types of paper highlights the importance of optimizing the kraft pulping process to achieve desired paper properties. This work proposes a novel multiscale model to optimize the kraft pulping process and obtain desired paper properties. The model combines mass and energy balance equations with a layered kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) algorithm to predict the degradation of wood chips, the depolymerization of cellulose, and the spatio-temporal evolution of the Kappa number and cellulose degree of polymerization ( D P ). A surrogate LSTM-ANN model is trained on data generated from the multiscale model under different operating conditions, dealing with both time-varying and time-invariant inputs, and an LSTM-ANN-based model predictive controller is designed to achieve desired set-point values of the Kappa number and cellulose D P while considering process constraints. The results show that the LSTM-ANN-based controller is able to drive the process to desired set-point values with the use of a computationally faster surrogate model with high accuracy and low offset. With the rapid development and widespread application of blockchain technology in recent years, smart contracts running on blockchains often face security vulnerability problems, resulting in significant economic losses. Unlike traditional programs, smart contracts cannot be modified once deployed, and vulnerabilities cannot be remedied. Therefore, the vulnerability detection of smart contracts has become a research focus. Most existing vulnerability detection methods are based on rules defined by experts, which are inefficient and have poor scalability. Although there have been studies using machine learning methods to extract contract features for vulnerability detection, the features considered are singular, and it is impossible to fully utilize smart contract information. In order to overcome the limitations of existing methods, this paper proposes a smart contract vulnerability detection method based on deep learning and multimodal decision fusion. This method also considers the code semantics and control structure information of smart contracts. It integrates the source code, operation code, and control-flow modes through the multimodal decision fusion method. The deep learning method extracts five features used to represent contracts and achieves high accuracy and recall rates. The experimental results show that the detection accuracy of our method for arithmetic vulnerability, re-entrant vulnerability, transaction order dependence, and Ethernet locking vulnerability can reach 91.6%, 90.9%, 94.8%, and 89.5%, respectively, and the detected AUC values can reach 0.834, 0.852, 0.886, and 0.825, respectively. This shows that our method has a good vulnerability detection effect. In traditional construction safety assessment, it is difficult to describe the safety status of different construction stages. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a digital twin modeling theory for construction safety assessment. Firstly, this paper analyzes the requirements of a digital twin model. Secondly, the required information is collected by IoT. Finally, the DT model is established based on the collected information. This DT model analyzes the collected information by ML, which aims to conducting the assessments of construction safety. To verify this method, this paper analyzes the vault settlement during tunnel construction. The analysis results show that the DT model can predict the settlement value with high accuracy. The use of generative learning models in natural language processing (NLP) has significantly contributed to the advancement of natural language applications, such as sentimental analysis, topic modeling, text classification, chatbots, and spam filtering. With a large amount of text generated each day from different sources, such as web-pages, blogs, emails, social media, and articles, one of the most common tasks in NLP is the classification of a text corpus. This is important in many institutions for planning, decision-making, and creating archives of their projects. Many algorithms exist to automate text classification tasks but the most intriguing of them is that which also learns these tasks automatically. In this study, we present a new model to infer and learn from data using probabilistic logic and apply it to text classification. This model, called GenCo, is a multi-input single-output (MISO) learning model that uses a collaboration of partial classifications to generate the desired output. It provides a heterogeneity measure to explain its classification results and enables a reduction in the curse of dimensionality in text classification. Experiments with the model were carried out on the Twitter US Airline dataset, the Conference Paper dataset, and the SMS Spam dataset, outperforming baseline models with 98.40%, 89.90%, and 99.26% accuracy, respectively. Softness is one of the essential properties of hygiene tissue products. Reliably measuring it is of utmost importance to ensure the balance between customer expectations and cost-effective tissue production. This study presents a method for assessing softness by analyzing acoustic emissions produced while tearing a tissue specimen. The aim was to train neural network models using the corrected results of human panel tests as the ground truth labels and to predict the tissue softness in two- and three-class recognition tasks. We also investigate the possibility of predicting some production parameters related to the softness property. Bearing fault diagnosis for equipment-safe operation has a crucial role. In recent years, more achievements have been made in bearing fault diagnosis. However, for the fault diagnosis model, the representation and sensitivity of bearing fault features have a great influence on the diagnosis output results; thus, the attention mechanism is particularly important for the selection of features. However, global attention focuses on all sequences, which is computationally expensive and not ideal for fault diagnosis tasks. The local attention mechanism ignores the relationship between non-adjacent sequences. To address the respective shortcomings of global attention and local attention, an adaptive sparse attention network is proposed in this paper to filter fault-sensitive information by soft threshold filtering. In addition, the effects of different signal representation domains on fault diagnosis results are investigated to filter out signal representation forms with better performance. Finally, the proposed adaptive sparse attention network is applied to cross-working conditions diagnosis of bearings. The adaptive sparse attention mechanism focuses on the signal characteristics of different frequency bands for different fault types. Most academic researchers use the academic information system when they want to write a reference, such as a related research for a paper. Specific classification rules are applied based on vast amounts of data and the latest references to classify and search keywords. Meta information is designed for specific classification rules and search results are restructured. The search results can be classified and rearranged to suit academic research paper keywords by applying the restructured classification system and the LDA-based topic modeling technique. To implement this, the ElasticSearch classification method and topic-based LDA model were applied to extract the characteristics of academic papers in this study. Stable topics that could detect topic estimation and keyword search results within the minimum time were extracted to classify the paper search results. This research focused on using RGB-D images and modifying an existing machine learning network architecture to generate predictions of the location of successfully grasped objects and to optimize the control system for state delays. A five-finger gripper designed to mimic the human palm was tested to demonstrate that it can perform more delicate missions than many two- or three-finger grippers. Experiments were conducted using the 6-DOF robot arm with the five-finger and two-finger grippers to perform at least 100 actual machine grasps, and compared to the results of other studies. Additionally, we investigated state time delays and proposed a control method for a robot manipulator. Many studies on time-delay systems have been conducted, but most focus on input and output delays. One reason for this emphasis is that input and output delays are the most commonly occurring delays in physical or electronic systems. An additional reason is that state delays increase the complexity of the overall control system. Finally, it was demonstrated that our network can perform as well as a deep network architecture with little training data and omitting steps, such as posture evaluation, and when combined with the hardware advantages of the five-finger gripper, it can produce an automated system with a gripping success rate of over 90%. Among the activities that burden capital in the supply chain of forest-based industries, the activity of road transport of wood deserves to be highlighted. Machine learning techniques are applied the knowledge extracted from real data, and support strategies that aim to maximize the resources destined for it. Based on variables inherent to the wood transport activity, we verified whether machine learning models can act as predictors of the volume of wood to be transported and support strategic decision-making. The database came from companies in the pulp and paper segments, which totaled 26,761 data instances. After the data wrangling process, machine learning algorithms were used to build models, which were optimized from the hyperparameter adjustment and selected to compose the blended learning hierarchy. In addition to belonging to different methodological basis, a CatBoost Regressor, Decision Tree Regressor, and K Neighbors Regressor were selected mainly for providing minimal values to errors metrics and maximal values to determination coefficient. The learning by stack stands out, with a coefficient of determination of 0.70 and an average absolute percentage error of 6% in the estimation of the volume of wood to be transported. Based on variables inherent to the wood transport process, we verified that machine learning models can act in the prediction of the volume of wood to be transported and support strategic decision-making. This paper presents the design and implementation of a system for semi-automating the literature review process based on machine learning. By using machine learning algorithms, the system determines whether scientific papers belong to the topic that is being explored as part of the review process. The system's user interface allows the process of creating a literature review to be managed through a series of steps: selecting data sources, building queries and topic searches, displaying the scientific papers found, selecting papers that belong to the set of desired papers, running machine learning algorithms for learning and automated classification, and displaying and exporting the final set of papers. Manual literature reviews are compared with automated reviews, and similarities and differences between the two approaches in terms of duration, accuracy, and ease of use are discussed. This study concludes that the best results in terms of sensitivity and accuracy for the automated literature review process are achieved by using a combined machine learning model, which uses multiple unweighted machine learning models. Cross-testing the models on two alternative datasets revealed an overlap in the machine learning hyperparameters. Albeit in different ways, both machine learning and gamification have transfigured the user experience of information systems. Although both are hot research topics, so far, little attention has been paid to how these two technologies converge with each other. This relation is not obvious as while it is feasible to enhance gamification with machine learning, it is also feasible to support machine learning with gamification; moreover, there are applications in which machine learning and gamification are combined yet not directly connected. Fake news is an explosive subject, being undoubtedly among the most controversial and difficult challenges facing society in the present-day environment of technology and information, which greatly affects the individuals who are vulnerable and easily influenced, shaping their decisions, actions, and even beliefs. In the course of discussing the gravity and dissemination of the fake news phenomenon, this article aims to clarify the distinctions between fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, along with conducting a thorough analysis of the most widely read academic papers that have tackled the topic of fake news research using various machine learning techniques. Utilizing specific keywords for dataset extraction from Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science Core Collection, the bibliometric analysis spans six years, offering valuable insights aimed at identifying key trends, methodologies, and notable strategies within this multidisciplinary field. The analysis encompasses the examination of prolific authors, prominent journals, collaborative efforts, prior publications, covered subjects, keywords, bigrams, trigrams, theme maps, co-occurrence networks, and various other relevant topics. One noteworthy aspect related to the extracted dataset is the remarkable growth rate observed in association with the analyzed subject, indicating an impressive increase of 179.31%. The growth rate value, coupled with the relatively short timeframe, further emphasizes the research community's keen interest in this subject. Given the importance of young children's postures and movements to health and development, robust objective measures are required to provide high-quality evidence. This study aimed to systematically review the available evidence for objective measurement of young (0–5 years) children's posture and movement using machine learning and other algorithm methods on accelerometer data. From 1663 papers, a total of 20 papers reporting on 18 studies met the inclusion criteria. Papers were quality-assessed and data extracted and synthesised on sample, postures and movements identified, sensors used, model development, and accuracy. A common limitation of studies was a poor description of their sample data, yet over half scored adequate/good on their overall study design quality assessment. There was great diversity in all aspects examined, with evidence of increasing sophistication in approaches used over time. Model accuracy varied greatly, but for a range of postures and movements, models developed on a reasonable-sized (n > 25) sample were able to achieve an accuracy of >80%. Issues related to model development are discussed and implications for future research outlined. The current evidence suggests the rapidly developing field of machine learning has clear potential to enable the collection of high-quality evidence on the postures and movements of young children. Federated learning (FL) is a scheme in which several consumers work collectively to unravel machine learning (ML) problems, with a dominant collector synchronizing the procedure. This decision correspondingly enables the training data to be distributed, guaranteeing that the individual device's data are secluded. The paper systematically reviewed the available literature using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guiding principle. The study presents a systematic review of appliable ML approaches for FL, reviews the categorization of FL, discusses the FL application areas, presents the relationship between FL and Blockchain Technology (BT), and discusses some existing literature that has used FL and ML approaches. The study also examined applicable machine learning models for federated learning. The inclusion measures were (i) published between 2017 and 2021, (ii) written in English, (iii) published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, and (iv) Preprint published papers. Unpublished studies, thesis and dissertation studies, (ii) conference papers, (iii) not in English, and (iv) did not use artificial intelligence models and blockchain technology were all removed from the review. In total, 84 eligible papers were finally examined in this study. Finally, in recent years, the amount of research on ML using FL has increased. Accuracy equivalent to standard feature-based techniques has been attained, and ensembles of many algorithms may yield even better results. We discovered that the best results were obtained from the hybrid design of an ML ensemble employing expert features. However, some additional difficulties and issues need to be overcome, such as efficiency, complexity, and smaller datasets. Over the past years, machine learning and big data analysis have emerged, starting as a scientific and fictional domain, very interesting but difficult to test, and becoming one of the most powerful tools that is part of Industry 5.0 and has a significant impact on sustainable, resilient manufacturing. The scope of the article is to perform an exhaustive bibliometric analysis of existing papers that belong to machine learning and big data, pointing out the capability from a scientific point of view, explaining the usability of applications, and identifying which is the actual in a continually changing domain. In this context, the present paper aims to discuss the research landscape associated with the use of machine learning and big data analysis in Industry 5.0 in terms of themes, authors, citations, preferred journals, research networks, and collaborations. The initial part of the analysis focuses on the latest trends and how researchers lend a helping hand to change preconceptions about machine learning. The annual growth rate is 123.69%, which is considerable for such a short period, and it requires a comprehensive analysis to check the boom of articles in this domain. Further, the exploration investigates affiliated academic institutions, influential publications, journals, key contributors, and most delineative authors. To accomplish this, a dataset has been created containing researchers' papers extracted from the ISI Web of Science database using keywords associated with machine learning and big data, starting in 2016 and ending in 2023. Aiming at the imbalance of industrial control system data and the poor detection effect of industrial control intrusion detection systems on network attack traffic problems, we propose an ETM-TBD model based on hybrid machine learning and neural network models. Aiming at the problem of high dimensionality and imbalance in the amount of sample data in the massive data of industrial control systems, this paper proposes an IG-based feature selection method and an oversampling method for SMOTE. In the ETM-TBD model, we propose a hyperparameter optimization method based on Bayesian optimization used to optimize the parameters of the four basic machine learners in the model. By introducing a multi-head-attention mechanism, the Transformer module increases the attention between local features and global features, enabling the discovery of the internal relationship between features. Additionally, the BiGRU is used to preserve the temporal features of the dataset, while the DNN is used to extract deeper features. Finally, the SoftMax classifier is used to classify the output. By analyzing the results of the comparison and ablation experiments, it can be concluded that the F1-score of the ETM-TBD model on a robotic arm dataset is 0.9665 and the model has very low FNR and FPR scores of 0.0263 and 0.0081, respectively. Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important, especially in the medical field. While AI has been used in medicine for some time, its growth in the last decade is remarkable. Specifically, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques in medicine have been increasingly adopted due to the growing abundance of health-related data, the improved suitability of such techniques for managing large datasets, and more computational power. ML and DL methodologies are fostering the development of new "intelligent" tools and expert systems to process data, to automatize human–machine interactions, and to deliver advanced predictive systems that are changing every aspect of the scientific research, industry, and society. The Italian scientific community was instrumental in advancing this research area. This article aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the ML and DL methodologies and applications used in medicine by the Italian research community in the last five years. To this end, we selected all the papers published in the last five years with at least one of the authors affiliated to an Italian institution that in the title, in the abstract, or in the keywords present the terms "machine learning" or "deep learning" and reference a medical area. We focused our research on journal papers under the hypothesis that Italian researchers prefer to present novel but well-established research in scientific journals. We then analyzed the selected papers considering different dimensions, including the medical topic, the type of data, the pre-processing methods, the learning methods, and the evaluation methods. As a final outcome, a comprehensive overview of the Italian research landscape is given, highlighting how the community has increasingly worked on a very heterogeneous range of medical problems. We present a rotational terahertz imaging system for inline nondestructive testing (NDT) of press sleeves for the paper industry during fabrication. Press sleeves often consist of polyurethane (PU) which is deposited by rotational molding on metal barrels and its outer surface mechanically processed in several milling steps afterwards. Due to a stabilizing polyester fiber mesh inlay, small defects can form on the sleeve's backside already during the initial molding, however, they cannot be visually inspected until the whole production processes is completed. We have developed a fast-scanning frequenc-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) terahertz imaging system, which can be integrated into the manufacturing process to yield high resolution images of the press sleeves and therefore can help to visualize hidden structural defects at an early stage of fabrication. This can save valuable time and resources during the production process. Our terahertz system can record images at 0.3 and 0.5 THz and we achieve data acquisition rates of at least 20 kHz, exploiting the fast rotational speed of the barrels during production to yield sub-millimeter image resolution. On a global scale, food safety and security aspects entail consideration throughout the farm-to-fork continuum, considering food's supply chain. Generally, the agrifood system is a multiplex network of interconnected features and processes, with a hard predictive rate, where maintaining the food's safety is an indispensable element and is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It has led the scientific community to develop advanced applied analytical methods, such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques applied for assessing foodborne diseases. The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the development of the consensus version of ongoing research about the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the domain of food-crop safety from an analytical point of view. Writing a comprehensive review for a more specific topic can also be challenging, especially when searching within the literature. To our knowledge, this review is the first to address this issue. This work consisted of conducting a unique and exhaustive study of the literature, using our TriScope Keywords-based Synthesis methodology. All available literature related to our topic was investigated according to our criteria of inclusion and exclusion. The final count of data papers was subject to deep reading and analysis to extract the necessary information to answer our research questions. This paper aims to structure and semantically describe the information within the industrial chain by constructing an Industry Chain Knowledge Graph (ICKG), enabling more efficient and intelligent information management and analysis. In more detail, this paper constructs a multi-domain industrial chain dataset and proposes a method that combines the top-down establishment of a semantic expression framework with the bottom-up establishment of a data layer to build an ICKG. In the data layer, a deep learning algorithm based on BERT-BiLSTM-CRF is used to extract industry chain entities from relevant literature and reports. The results indicate that the model can effectively identify industry chain entities. Vacuum is an important parameter in cutter suction dredging operations because the equipment is underwater and can easily fail. It is necessary to analyze other parameters related to the vacuum to make real-time predictions about it, which can improve the construction efficiency of the dredger under abnormal working conditions. In this paper, a data-driven method for predicting the vacuum of the underwater pump of the cutter suction dredger (CSD) is proposed with the help of big data, machine learning, data mining, and other technologies, and based on the historical data of "Hua An Long" CSD. The method eliminates anomalous data, standardizes the data set, and then relies on theory and engineering experience to achieve feature extraction using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Then, six machine learning methods were employed in this study to train and predict the data set, namely, lasso regression (lasso), elastic network (Enet), gradient boosting decision tree (including traditional GBDT, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM)), and stacking. The comparison of the indicators obtained through multiple rounds of feature number iteration shows that the LightGBM model has high prediction accuracy, a good running time, and a generalization ability. In this paper, we utilize a machine learning model (the convolutional neural network) to analyze aerial images of winter hard red wheat planted areas and cloud coverage over the planted areas as a proxy for future yield forecasts. We trained our model to forecast the futures price 20 days ahead and provide recommendations for either a long or short position on wheat futures. Our method shows that achieving positive alpha within a short time window is possible if the algorithm and data choice are unique. However, the model's performance can deteriorate quickly if the input data become more easily available and/or the trading strategy becomes crowded, as was the case with the aerial imagery we utilized in this paper. Implementing the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) business excellence model in organizations is time- and cost-consuming. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the EFQM business excellence model is a promising approach to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of excellence in organizations. This research paper's integrated framework follows the ISO/IEC 23053 standard in addressing some of the concerns related to time and cost associated with the EFQM model, achieving higher EFQM scores, and hence operational excellence. A case study involving a UAE government organization serves as a sample to train the AI framework. Historical EFQM results from different years are used as training data. The AI framework utilizes the unsupervised machine learning technique known as k-means clustering. This technique follows the ISO/IEC 23053 standard to predict EFQM output total scores based on criteria and sub-criteria inputs. This research paper's main output is a novel AI framework that can predict EFQM scores for organizations at an early stage. If the predicted EFQM score is not high enough, then the AI framework provides feedback to decision makers regarding the criteria that need reconsideration. Continuous use of this integrated framework helps organizations attain operational excellence. This framework is considered valuable for decision makers as it provides early predictions of EFQM total scores and identifies areas that require improvement before officially applying for the EFQM excellence award, hence saving time and cost. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing network that shares information over the Internet via interconnected devices. In addition, this network has led to new security challenges in recent years. One of the biggest challenges is the impact of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on the IoT. The Information-Centric Network (ICN) infrastructure is a critical component of the IoT. The ICN has gained recognition as a promising networking solution for the IoT by supporting IoT devices to be able to communicate and exchange data with each other over the Internet. Moreover, the ICN provides easy access and straightforward security to IoT content. However, the integration of IoT devices into the ICN introduces new security challenges, particularly in the form of DoS attacks. These attacks aim to disrupt or disable the normal operation of the ICN, potentially leading to severe consequences for IoT applications. Machine learning (ML) is a powerful technology. This paper proposes a new approach for developing a robust and efficient solution for detecting DoS attacks in ICN-IoT networks using ML technology. ML is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on the development of algorithms. While several ML algorithms have been explored in the literature, including neural networks, decision trees (DTs), clustering algorithms, XGBoost, J48, multilayer perceptron (MLP) with backpropagation (BP), deep neural networks (DNNs), MLP-BP, RBF-PSO, RBF-JAYA, and RBF-TLBO, researchers compare these detection approaches using classification metrics such as accuracy. This classification metric indicates that SVM, RF, and KNN demonstrate superior performance compared to other alternatives. The proposed approach was carried out on the NDN architecture because, based on our findings, it is the most used one and has a high percentage of various types of cyberattacks. Pedigree charts remain essential in oncological genetic counseling for identifying individuals with an increased risk of developing hereditary tumors. However, this valuable data source often remains confined to paper files, going unused. We propose a computer-aided detection/diagnosis system, based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, capable of the following: (1) assisting genetic oncologists in digitizing paper-based pedigree charts, and in generating new digital ones, and (2) automatically predicting the genetic predisposition risk directly from these digital pedigree charts. To the best of our knowledge, there are no similar studies in the current literature, and consequently, no utilization of software based on artificial intelligence on pedigree charts has been made public yet. By incorporating medical images and other data from omics sciences, there is also a fertile ground for training additional artificial intelligence systems, broadening the software predictive capabilities. We plan to bridge the gap between scientific advancements and practical implementation by modernizing and enhancing existing oncological genetic counseling services. Background: An application of artificial intelligence is machine learning, which allows computer programs to learn and create data. Methods: In this work, we aimed to evaluate the performance of the MySLR machine learning platform, which implements the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm in the identification and screening of papers present in the literature that focus on mutations of the apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene in Italian Alzheimer's Disease patients. Results: MySLR excludes duplicates and creates topics. MySLR was applied to analyze a set of 164 scientific publications. After duplicate removal, the results allowed us to identify 92 papers divided into two relevant topics characterizing the investigated research area. Topic 1 contains 70 papers, and topic 2 contains the remaining 22. Despite the current limitations, the available evidence suggests that articles containing studies on Italian Alzheimer's Disease (AD) patients were 65.22% (n = 60). Furthermore, the presence of papers about mutations, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) ApoE gene, the primary genetic risk factor of AD, for the Italian population was 5.4% (n = 5). Conclusion: The results show that the machine learning platform helped to identify case-control studies on ApoE gene mutations, including SNPs, but not only conducted in Italy. Safety occurrence reports can contain valuable information on how incidents occur, revealing knowledge that can assist safety practitioners. This paper presents and discusses a literature review exploring how Natural Language Processing (NLP) has been applied to occurrence reports within safety-critical industries, informing further research on the topic and highlighting common challenges. Some of the uses of NLP include the ability for occurrence reports to be automatically classified against categories, and entities such as causes and consequences to be extracted from the text as well as the semantic searching of occurrence databases. The review revealed that machine learning models form the dominant method when applying NLP, although rule-based algorithms still provide a viable option for some entity extraction tasks. Recent advances in deep learning models such as Bidirectional Transformers for Language Understanding are now achieving a high accuracy while eliminating the need to substantially pre-process text. The construction of safety-themed datasets would be of benefit for the application of NLP to occurrence reporting, as this would allow the fine-tuning of current language models to safety tasks. An interesting approach is the use of topic modelling, which represents a shift away from the prescriptive classification taxonomies, splitting data into "topics". Where many papers focus on the computational accuracy of models, they would also benefit from real-world trials to further inform usefulness. The past few decades have witnessed remarkable progress in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in medicine, notably in medical imaging. The application of ML to dental and oral imaging has also been developed, powered by the availability of clinical dental images. The present work aims to investigate recent progress concerning the application of ML in the diagnosis of oral diseases using oral X-ray imaging, namely the quality and outcome of such methods. The specific research question was developed using the PICOT methodology. The review was conducted in the Web of Science, Science Direct, and IEEE Xplore databases, for articles reporting the use of ML and AI for diagnostic purposes in X-ray-based oral imaging. Imaging types included panoramic, periapical, bitewing X-ray images, and oral cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). The search was limited to papers published in the English language from 2018 to 2022. The initial search included 104 papers that were assessed for eligibility. Of these, 22 were included for a final appraisal. The full text of the articles was carefully analyzed and the relevant data such as the clinical application, the ML models, the metrics used to assess their performance, and the characteristics of the datasets, were registered for further analysis.
