Aim: The present study aimed to examine the effects of a learning programme for nurse managers on connecting learning with their own experiences and fostering competence. Background: In Japan, second‐level programmes for certified nurse administrators represent the main opportunity for formal training for nurse managers. However, it is difficult for nurse managers to transfer second‐level programme learning to their workplace. Methods: This quasi‐experimental study used a two‐group pretest–posttest design with purposive sampling and non‐random assignment of 29 consenting Japanese nurse managers who were participating in a second‐level programme through a prefectural nursing association. The programme provided reflection papers and feedback from a researcher, as well as reflective group sessions. The outcome measure was the Japanese First‐Line Nurse Managers Competence Inventory (JNMCI) score. Results: The intervention group showed significant improvement in JNMCI scores after participating in the programme. A significant difference in JNMCI scores was also observed between the intervention and comparison groups. Conclusion: This learning programme led to improved competency among nurse managers. Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse manager development programmes should include reflection papers and feedback, as well as reflective group sessions, to improve competency among nurse managers. Background. The involvement of women, as health influencers, has been instrumental in improving health outcomes and quality of life. In sub‐Saharan Africa, poor knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about cancers have contributed to late detection and increased mortality. Although pharmacists have provided optimum pharmaceutical care in ensuring that prostate cancer (PCa) patients obtain maximum clinical benefits from pharmacotherapy, late detection has hindered pharmacotherapeutic outcomes. The application of the PCaKAB‐Gh tool to women has the potential to investigate their lapses in PCa knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs and further equip pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to design educational interventions. Ultimately, Ghanaian women will be well‐positioned to advise and motivate their men to screen for PCa. Method. Our pilot and psychometric studies recruited 400 and 500 participants from the Kumasi Central Market and the New Agogo Community Market, respectively. In this large population application of the PCaKAB‐Gh tool, 2000 women were simply randomly enrolled from these markets and data were collected using paper questionnaires with ethical approval. Data were entered into IBM SPSS (version 24) after cleaning and coding for analysis. The knowledge on signs and symptoms was scored and graded as "low" (≤2), "moderate" (3–5), and "high" (5–8), whilst the knowledge on causes and risk factors was stratified as "low" (≤1), "moderate" (2‐3), and "high" (4‐5). Pearson's correlation was conducted to investigate the relationship between women's educational status and knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs. Statistical significance was established as a p < 0.05. Results. Christians and Muslims accounted for about 70% and 24% of the participants, respectively, whilst over 50% of the participants were Akans. Over 50% and 30% of the 2000 participants had high and moderate knowledge about the signs and symptoms of PCa, respectively. Knowledge about the causes and risk factors was approximately 30% high and 50% moderate amongst the participants. Negative attitudes and beliefs outcomes were observed in about 25% and 55% of the participants. A p < 0.001 was achieved in Pearson's correlation between the educational level of respondents and knowledge on signs and symptoms (r = −0.102), knowledge on causes and risk factors (r = 0.111), attitudes (r = −0.122), and beliefs (r = 0.228). Conclusions. Our study established that market women had better knowledge on the signs and symptoms of PCa compared to the causes and risk factors. Their beliefs about PCa were worse compared to their attitudes. The development and administration of educational interventions, relying on the outcomes of this study, must involve markets, churches, and mosques as educational sites with special attention to addressing negative beliefs through a broader community‐based engagement. It is necessary to pay attention to and study the physical and mental health development of college students. On the basis of statistical analysis of the questionnaire, this paper studies the impact of pretest mental health intervention on college students' English test scores, summarizes the problems and characteristics of college students' mental health, and explores the reasons for psychological problems. Based on the research results and related survey data of the mental health status of college students by scholars, this paper believes that these reasons mainly include students' personal reasons, school and social environment pressure, and insufficient family support factors. The data analysis shows that in the relationship between English education and mental health in colleges and universities, the amount of mental health intervention of students' extracurricular exercise has a stable and low negative correlation with the scores of each factor of SCL-90 (Symptom Checklist 90) and is negatively correlated with the scores of each subscale. The experimental results show that there are extremely significant differences in academic performance (F = 5.084 , P < 0.01), and there is a certain linear relationship between students' mental health level and students' English exercise feeling. An infinite number of fitness apps are available on various app stores. However, hardly any of them are fitted to the needs and requirements of care‐dependent people. This paper investigates the effectiveness of a customised fitness‐app prototype for increasing physical activity in home care service users. Home care service users from Austria and Italy were randomly assigned to two groups. In total, 216 participants were involved in the field trial, 104 received a tablet with the fitness app and an activity tracker (treatment group), 112 did not (control group). Regularity of physical activity, frequency of fitness exercises and walking behaviour were self‐reported by participants at baseline, after 4 months and after 8 months. In addition, the frequency of using the prototype was assessed based on the fitness app's logged usage data. We estimated multilevel mixed‐effects ordered logistic models to examine the effects of the intervention. After 4 months, the intervention increased the home care users' probability of agreeing strongly with being physically active on a regular basis by 28 percentage points (p < 0.001; 95% CI: 0.20, 0.36) and their probability of reporting to exercise more than once a week by 45 percentage points (p < 0.001; 95% CI: 0.32, 0.57). Walking behaviour was not affected on group‐level but improved for frequent users of the activity tracker. Frequent and regular users of the fitness app benefited most and effects persisted until the end of the 8 months controlled trial. Tailoring a fitness‐app prototype to the needs of care‐dependent people has the potential to support people with functional limitations to engage in a more active lifestyle. Aim. The objective was to investigate the impact of structural empowerment and demographic factors on the psychological empowerment of nurses. Background. The empowerment of nurses plays a crucial role in improving patient care and achieving successful healthcare outcomes. When nurses feel empowered in their work environment, they tend to remain dedicated to their jobs and experience higher levels of job satisfaction and engagement. Methods. This cross-sectional study utilized a convenience sample of 287 nurses recruited from various hospital units, resulting in a response rate of 94.7%. Data were collected through a paper survey consisting of three sections: structural empowerment, psychological empowerment, and demographics. Results. The first hierarchical regression explains 57.0% variance in nurses' psychological empowerment (F = 78.52, p < 0.001). Age (β = 0.37, p < 0.01) and structural empowerment (β = 0.69, p < 0.001) have a positive influence on nurses' psychological empowerment. Conversely, having a bachelor's degree (β = −0.16, p < 0.01) had a negative impact psychological empowerment. The second hierarchical regression clarifies the specific aspects of structural empowerment that influences positively on nurses' psychological empowerment: access to opportunities (β = 0.13, p < 0.01), support (β = 0.13, p < 0.01), resources (β = 0.35, p < 0.001), and informal power (β = 0.12, p < 0.01). Conclusion. This study emphasizes the importance of considering demographic variables, such as age and education, in conjunction with structural empowerment to effectively enhance nurses' psychological empowerment. Implications for Nursing Management. Nursing managers should tailor their empowerment strategies based on the demographic characteristics of their nurses. It is essential to focus on providing nurses with access to opportunities, support, resources, and informal power. The purpose of this paper is to provide a group music therapy intervention for elementary and middle school students with mood disorders through music therapy. To explore the improvement of group music therapy on the dysphoria and state of adolescent patients with mood disorders and to explore the relationship with self-identity. A music activity-based mental health education curriculum was designed based on the results of the current survey, while two homogenous classes were selected as the experimental and control classes; subsequently, the experimental teaching of the music activity-based mental health education curriculum was conducted in the experimental class, and the regular school mental health education curriculum was conducted in the control class, and the pre- and postexperimental scale tests were used to analyze that the curriculum of this study had a positive effect of this study's curriculum on elementary school students' positive emotions analyzed through pre- and postexperimental scale tests. The music activity-based mental health education program had a significant positive effect on the overall level of positive emotions of elementary school students, especially in the positive emotion index, happiness index, mental toughness, goal focus, and interpersonal assistance factor. The positive psychology-oriented music activity-based mental health education curriculum is well suited for elementary and middle school students, especially for upper elementary and middle school students. The music activity-based mental health education curriculum realizes the value of applying positive psychology to mental health education efforts at the elementary school level and flexibly uses a variety of related theories to promote positive emotional experiences for elementary and middle school students. To explore the effects of social support on the mental health of older adults in different age groups in China, and to provide reference for the development of social support policies to promote the mental health of older adults in China. This paper uses a random sampling method to conduct a questionnaire survey of 3,000 older adults aged 60 years or older in Nanjing and a dichotomous logistic regression model for empirical analysis. The two dimensions of mental health and social adjustment were used to measure the mental health status of the elderly. The results showed that the overall mental health status of the elderly in Nanjing city was more optimistic, and the nonempty nesters with male gender, higher education level, and partners were generally healthier; objective and subjective support had significant positive effects on the mental health of middle and high aged elderly, while the utilization of support had more significant effects on the health of low-aged elderly. This paper proposes that government departments should develop a localized elderly support system and social support policies adapted to the actual situation in Nanjing according to the quantitative distribution and demand characteristics of the mental health of elderly people in different age groups. Taking the entire education system in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, Central China, as an example, this paper uses the questionnaire survey method to analyze the effect of artificial intelligence (AI) on role cognition in the education system. The education system targeted by this questionnaire survey involves 8 categories: preschool education, primary education, secondary education, higher education, adult education, computer network education, enterprise education, and social education; the respondents include 368 teachers, 402 students or learners, 118 school managers, and 124 family members of students or learners in all above education categories. The questionnaire design has a total of 34 question classified into 6 role cognition items, with a 5-level score; a total of 1012 questionnaires were distributed, and 978 were recovered with a recovery rate of 96.64%, in which 957 were valid questionnaires with an effective rate of 97.85%. The study results show that the learning of AI-assisted courses is strongly dependent on course role cognition, and the construction of role cognition is related to the understanding of course content, teaching methods, and activity methods. Therefore, the effect of AI on role cognition in the education system needs to be systematically analyzed from the aspects of function realization form, resource presentation method, supporting hardware form, teacher-student interaction method, and representation method of works. As connecters, teacher's role cognition is limited by the degree of understanding learners, the amount of resources, and data processing capabilities, but the advantage is that they can flexibly monitor and adjust. AI technology is flexible and diverse, it functions in learning and teaching activities in a variety of ways, and there is no agreement on the terminology to describe its role in role recognition. This paper constructs a platform framework for extensive data analysis of college students' psychological quality with the help of the thinking mode of big data and related technologies and proposes the construction principles, data sources, data processing methods, data platform construction, and platform application of big data analysis platform for college students' psychological quality assessment. This paper combines the application methods of big data technology, collects the management data related to the psychological quality assessment of college students, saves them into the system database with certain storage logic, and realizes the function of psychological quality assessment through the design of selected psychological quality assessment data, data management and data resource management and other parts based on the data results of extensive data analysis. This study provides some insights into the psychological quality assessment of college students. The strength of association between the variables of psychological quality assessment of college students changes over time, but the overall psychological structure is more stable. Aim: This paper aimed to investigate the relationship between social support and quality of life for nurses in infectious disease departments in China, as well as the function of psychological resilience in mediating this relationship. Background: Nurses in infectious disease departments play a critical role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases and in public health care services in general, and their quality of life can affect the quality of clinical nursing work they do. However, there are few studies on the relationship between nurses' social support networks and their quality of life. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted using a sample of 866 clinical nurses from the infectious disease departments of 10 general hospitals in China. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from January to May 2021. The mediating influence of psychological resilience on social support and quality of life was investigated using structural equation modelling. Results: The score of quality of life was (36.36 ± 7.64). Quality of life was positively correlated with social support and psychological resilience (r1 = 0.521, r2 = 0.583; p <.01), and psychological resilience was positively correlated with social support (r = 0.426; p <.01) as well. The mediating effect of psychological resilience between social support and quality of life was 0.233, accounting for 37% of the total effect. Conclusion: The quality of life of nurses working in infectious disease departments is in the middle level. Psychological resilience is a mediating variable between social support and quality of life. Implications for Nursing Management: Managers can improve the quality of life of nurses by both increasing social support and strengthening psychological resilience. Managers should pay attention to the degree of social support provided to nurses and take proactive measures to build psychological resilience so that nurses can effectively manage stress and negative emotions from work and life in order improve their quality of life. Chronic pain is common in older people. However, little is known about how pain is experienced in residents of retirement villages ('villages'), and how pain intensity and associations are experienced in relation to characteristics of residents and village living. We thus aimed to examine pain levels, prevalence and associated factors in village residents. The current paper is a cross‐sectional analysis of baseline data from the 'Older People in Retirement Villages' study in Auckland, New Zealand. Between July 2016 and August 2018, 578 village residents were interviewed face‐to‐face by gerontology nurse specialists, using interRAI Community Health Assessment (CHA) and customised survey. We used a validated pain scale and multivariable logistic regression analyses adjusted for pre‐specified confounders. Residents' median age was 82 years; 420 (73%) were female; 270 (47%) exhibited/reported daily pain, and in 11% this was severe. After controlling for confounders, daily pain was positively associated with self‐reported arthritis (OR = 3.88, 95% CI = 2.57–5.87), poor/fair self‐reported health (OR = 3.19, 95% CI = 1.29–7.93), having no health clinic on‐site (OR = 1.76, 95% CI = 1.10–2.83), and minimal fatigue (diminished energy but completes normal day‐to‐day activities) (OR = 1.77, 95% CI = 1.11–2.81). Similar associations were observed for levels of pain. We conclude that levels of pain and prevalence of daily pain are high in village residents. Self‐reported arthritis, self‐reported poor/fair health, no health clinic on‐site and minimal fatigue are all independently associated with a higher risk of daily pain and with levels of pain. This study suggests potential opportunities for villages to better provide on‐site support to decrease prevalence and severity of pain for their residents, and thus potentially increase wellbeing and quality‐of‐life, though as we cannot prove causality, more research is needed. Aim(s): This paper investigated the impact of organisational dehumanization on nurses' deviant behaviours in the Pakistani health sector directly and indirectly through job stress. The study also examined the moderation role of occupational self‐efficacy on the relationship between organisational dehumanization and job stress. Background: While the attitudinal outcomes of organisational dehumanization have been a focus of research, its behavioural outcomes are a relatively ignored research area. Method: Data were collected from 295 nurses working in hospitals across Pakistan via self‐administered questionnaires with two measurement points to test the direct and indirect effects of organisational dehumanization. Results: The hypothesized relationships were tested with SPSS 25 and the Process Macro Model 7. The results showed that organisational dehumanization increased deviant behaviours among nurses directly and indirectly via job stress. Moreover, occupational self‐efficacy plays moderation role and weakens the relationship between organisational dehumanization and job stress. Conclusion: This study contributes to the existing literature by concentrating on predictors that trigger deviant behaviour among nurses. It also assessed the mediating impact of job stress, an essential endeavour for researchers and practitioners. Implications for Nursing Management: The study outcomes can help the health sector improve their strategies to address organisational dehumanization and deviant behaviour among nurses. Fit & Strong! is an evidence‐based program that combines exercise with health education for older adults with lower extremity osteoarthritis. This paper explores the factors of acceptance to a randomised controlled trial that tested the Portuguese (Europe) version of Fit & Strong! and analysed the sociodemographic, lifestyle and health characteristics of people who agreed versus people who declined to participate. Patients were identified by General Practitioners at three healthcare centres during 4 months (May 2017 to July 2017). Patients who accepted the invitation and met the inclusion criteria are designated participants, and people who met the inclusion criteria, declined the opportunity to participate but agreed to answer a brief questionnaire are designated as non‐participants. Data included sociodemographic, lifestyle behaviours, health, pain and ADLs from the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis. Data were analysed using descriptive analysis and the Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney, Chi‐Squared tests or Fisher's tests. The results showed that three out of 12 (25%) primary healthcare centres contacted about the new program accepted the invitation to participate in recruitment. Eighty‐two patients were contacted, of whom 14 (17.2%) did not meet inclusion criteria and 32 (38.3%) met the inclusion criteria but declined to participate. The acceptance rate was 22%. Non‐participants were older (U = 41.0; W = 212.0; p =.044) and experienced earlier osteoarthritis onset than participants (U = 26.0; W = 146.0; p =.031). In conclusion, younger age and a diagnosis of osteoarthritis more recent appear to predispose older adults with osteoarthritis to be more accepting of participation in a non‐pharmacologic intervention designed to increase physical activity. Aim: To assess the perception of the nursing profession in Armenia from the perspective of multiple stakeholders, including nurses and the general public. Background: Nurses' role perception is a complex phenomenon defined by multiple stakeholders. Methods: The assessment used a convergent parallel mixed‐methods design, with a dominant qualitative status. We conducted the qualitative phase through focus group discussions and in‐depth interviews with 235 people and collected quantitative data in a cross‐sectional telephone survey with 389 participants. Results: The nursing profession has been influenced by medical hierarchy and subordination, and none of the participants recognized nursing as an autonomous health care profession. The quantitative survey findings were largely consistent with the qualitative results. Our findings highlighted empathy and compassion as inherent qualities of nurses in Armenia. Conclusion: To change opinions about the nursing profession and highlight nurses' meaningful contribution to the provision of health care services, it is important to develop a national definition of nursing and introduce higher educational opportunities for nurses in Armenia. Implications for nursing management: The paper highlights the importance of quality education for preparing highly competent nurse managers who can become role models in promoting nurses' roles in health care systems and improving the professional and public image of nursing. Introduction. The effectiveness of the currently utilized therapies for FoG is limited. Several studies demonstrated a beneficial impact of Nordic walking (NW) on several gait parameters in Parkinson's disease, but only one paper reported reduction of freezing. Research Question. In the present study, the question is whether NW is an effective therapeutic intervention in FoG. Methods. Twenty PD subjects trained NW for 12 weeks, with a frequency of twice per week. Each session lasted about 60 minutes. Twenty patients in the control group did not use any form of physiotherapy (no-intervention group). Freezing of Gait Questionnaire (FOGQ), the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and the Provocative Test for Freezing and Motor Blocks (PTFMB) were performed at baseline, immediately after the end of NW program, and three months later. Results. The results of FOGQ, TUG, and total PTFMB revealed significant improvement after completing the exercise program, and this effect persisted at follow-up. The results of the PTFMB subtests showed a different effect of NW on particular subtypes of FoG. Start hesitation, sudden transient blocks that interrupt gait, and blocks on turning improved considerably, while motor blocks, when walking through narrow space and on reaching the target, did not respond to NW training. Significance. The results show, for the first time, that FoG during turning and step initiation, two most common forms of this gait disorder, has been significantly reduced by NW training. Different responses of particular subtypes of FoG to NW probably reflect their different pathophysiologies. Conclusions. The present study showed that NW training had a beneficial effect on FOG in PD and that the achieved improvement is long-lasting. Future research should clarify whether the observed improvement limited to FoG triggered by only some circumstances reflects different pathomechanisms of FoG subtypes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Novel educational strategies are essential to cultivate a cadre of nurses with the requisite skills, critical thinking abilities, and adaptability demanded by contemporary healthcare contexts. The shift towards various learning modalities in nursing education, including online, hybrid, and in‐person formats, raises questions about their impact on student engagement and academic self‐concept. Objectives. This study aimed to assess and compare the levels of student engagement and academic self‐concept among nursing students engaged in different study modalities (online, hybrid, and in‐person). Methods. In this descriptive comparative study, 203 nursing students were evaluated using the university student engagement inventory (USEI) and academic self‐concept questionnaire (ASCQ). Participants were divided into groups based on their involvement in online, hybrid, or in‐person study modes. Differences and correlational analysis within variables were performed to evaluate the comparison between groups. Results. Significant differences were observed in the USEI scores among the study modalities: online (mean = 45.7, SD = 5.6), hybrid (mean = 48.8, SD = 6.1), and in‐person (mean = 50.4, SD = 6.2), with in‐person students displaying the highest levels of engagement (F = 10.663, P < 0.001). Academic self‐concept scores also varied notably (F = 9.422, P < 0.001) between modalities, particularly between online (mean = 54.8, SD = 5.3) and in‐person students (mean = 58.8, SD = 7.7). Correlational analysis within each modality revealed significant relationships among the subdomains of USEI and ASCQ. Conclusion. The study demonstrates that the mode of study substantially influences nursing students' engagement and academic self‐concept, with in‐person learners showing higher scores in both domains. Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality globally, particularly in developing countries such as Ethiopia. Periodic assessments of IPI prevalence are essential prerequisite for effective control measures. Therefore, this cross‐sectional study is aimed at determining the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections and associated risk factors among schoolchildren at Wonji Shoa Secondary School, East Shoa Zone, Adama district, Oromia region, Ethiopia, between January and June 2022. A simple random stratified sampling technique was employed to select participants. Sociodemographic and risk factor data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Stool samples were examined to identify parasites. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression were conducted to assess associations between variables and then the strength of the association. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the 403 selected students, 330 completed the study that makes 81.89% response success. The overall IPI prevalence was 16.66% (55/330), with a higher prevalence among males (60%, 33/55) than females (40%, 22/55). Five parasite species were identified: two protozoa (Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia) with a combined prevalence of 9.70% (32/330) and three helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Hymenolepis nana, and Taenia spp.) with a combined prevalence of 6.97% (23/330). Cysts were detected in 62.5% of E. histolytica cases (15/24), and eggs were detected in 76.92% of A. lumbricoides cases (10/13). The study revealed a substantial IPI prevalence (16.66%) among the students. This finding underscores the need for effective prevention and control strategies. The predominance of parasitic infections among males is notable requiring further investigation of the factors. The identification of multiple parasite species indicates a complex epidemiological scenario. The presence of protozoan cysts and helminthic eggs highlights the potential for fecal‐oral transmission and the importance of improved sanitation and hygiene practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID‐19 brought many difficulties for medical workers' mental health. They tend to exhibit a high turnover rate, which has deteriorated the situation of high demands on the healthcare workforce. Thus, enhancing medical interns' resilience is of great significance. Previous studies have delved into how job crafting relates to resilience, but there has been limited exploration of how the three dimensions of job crafting interplay with resilience. Thus, our research examined the moderating role of social media use intensity in associations between task crafting, cognitive crafting, relational crafting, and resilience. A total of 605 medical interns were obtained. The results revealed that task crafting, cognitive crafting, and relational crafting exhibited significant and positive associations with resilience. More importantly, social media use intensity moderated associations between task crafting, cognitive crafting, and resilience, with these associations being weaker for individuals with high levels of social media use intensity. However, the moderating role of social media use intensity was not significant between relational crafting and resilience. Finally, the findings provided some guidance for instructors to enhance medical interns' resilience and thus prepare them for employment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions hold promise in assisting older adults to meet physical activity (PA) guidelines. Yet, little is known about how older adults perceive using smartphones to enhance their PA. This study explored older adults' experiences with the "My Health Plan" mHealth intervention and examined which person‐level factors were associated with adherence. Methods. Forty older adults (52.5% female, mean age: 72.6 years) were instructed to use the My Health Plan application, which provided up to six stretch‐ and strengthening exercises per day and to wear a Fitbit Charge activity monitor for seven consecutive days. Person‐level factors (e.g., gender and age) and psychosocial factors (e.g., intention and motivation) were assessed using a questionnaire. Afterwards, semistructured interviews were conducted to gather participants' experiences with the application and Fitbit. Deductive thematic analysis (qualitative data) and regression analyses (quantitative data) were conducted. Results. Key themes emerging from the interviews were (1) smartphone notifications (including timing and number) and carrying the smartphone throughout the day, (2) suggested stretch‐ and strengthening exercises, (3) providing feedback, (4) experiences with Fitbit, and (5) overall suggestions for improving the application and mHealth interventions. Overall, participants reported positive experiences with the application and Fitbit. Being male, having higher baseline PA, lower anxiety, and greater ability to participate in social roles and activities were related to increased engagement with the proposed exercises. Conclusions. This study provides valuable insights to optimize future mHealth interventions tailored to older adults' specific needs, aligning with their perceptions of the digital transformation in health promotion. Loneliness research has tended to focus on mainstream and older populations despite evidence that non‐mainstream groups, like those experiencing homelessness, may experience loneliness differently. Limited existing research indicates that (a) people who have been homeless experience loneliness as multidimensional (as a pluralistic, non‐unidimensional emotion, experienced specific to lacked relationships) and (b) mainstream loneliness scales may be inappropriate for this group. The current study piloted and appraised the feasibility the short version of the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (SELSA‐S) among 129 Australian adults with a lived experience of homelessness. Exploratory Factor Analysis and an observational questionnaire appraisal were used to assess factorial and content validity and showed the measure did not fit this sample as well as in mainstream samples. Removal of items that participants found difficult to comprehend/answer improved the factorial fit of the scale. In conclusion, the SELSA‐S may be inappropriate for measuring loneliness among people who have experienced homelessness. Further research needs to explore the potentially different structure of loneliness among marginalised groups so that a better understanding of loneliness can be reached. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Many patients find using medicines burdensome. This paper reports the types of issues people experience with medicines, using a validated measure of medicines burden, and the factors associated with high burden. The cross‐sectional study involved patients presenting prescriptions at pharmacies or awaiting appointments at GP practices or outpatient clinics, during October 2015 to December 2016. Adults using at least one regular medicine were asked to complete the Living with Medicines Questionnaire V3 (LMQ‐3). The LMQ‐3 contains 41 statements rated on a 5‐point scale (strongly agree to strongly disagree), with higher scores indicating greater burden, plus a visual analogue scale for self‐reporting of overall perceived burden (VAS‐burden). For a subsample, access to their medication record was requested, facilitating calculation of the complexity of their medicine regimen using the Medicine Regimen Complexity Index (MRCI). Of 1,888 questionnaires distributed, 684 were returned (36.2%) and medication records obtained for 163. The median number of medicines respondents reported using was 4 (range 1 to 26). Two‐thirds (418; 67.0%) used medicines more than once daily, 67 (10.1%) required assistance with medicines and 189 (28.3%) paid a prescription charge. LMQ‐3 scores showed a strong positive relationship with VAS‐burden scores (r = .547; p < 0.001). LMQ‐3 and VAS‐burden scores were lower in older age groups, but both increased with increasing number of medicines and dosing frequency. LMQ‐3 score was positively related to MRCI score (n = 163; r = .217; p = 0.005), whereas VAS‐burden was not. Older respondents reported lower burden in most domains. Higher numbers and frequency of medicines, paying prescription charges, needing support and deprivation increased burden across multiple domains. Factors strongly associated with high LMQ‐3 scores were: needing support, high dosing frequency and unemployment. Interventions seeking to reduce medicines burden should consider targeting individuals who need support with using medicines, use at least four medicines, more than twice daily and/or pay prescription charges. Consumer-directed care (CDC) is increasingly widespread among aged care service options in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. However, the evidence base regarding the programmatic and contextual factors that affect the outcome of CDC interventions is surprisingly small. This paper reports on a self-directed care approach for older Australians with complex care needs. A multimethods longitudinal comparative cohort study was employed comprising 4 survey tools and 56 semi-structured interviews. Participation rates were around 20%. A total of 185 (98 in the intervention and 87 in the control group) older people and carers were recruited at baseline. Eleven months later, 109 participants (59 in the intervention and 50 in the control group) completed the repeat measure. Attrition rates were around 40%. Data collection occurred between July 2010 and April 2012. The data suggest that intervention group participants were likely to be more satisfied with the way they were treated (P = 0.013), their care options (P = 0.014), the 'say' they had in their care (P < 0.001), the information they received regarding their care (P = 0.012), what they were achieving in life (P = 0.031), that the services changed their view on what could be achieved in life (P = 0.020) and with their standard of living (P = 0.008). The evaluation suggests that while only a very small segment of older people is interested in a voucher or cash option, a substantially larger group would like to have greater say over and more direct access to their care, without, however, assuming administrative and financial responsibilities. The paper concludes that a stepped capacity-building approach to CDC may improve the acceptability of CDC to older people and generate synergies that improve older people's care outcomes. Aim: To explore nurses' perceptions of their practice environment in acute care hospitals in Sharjah and North Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Background: The health of the environment in which registered nurses' work is critical to nursing outcomes. The interest to examine the practice environment extended to the Gulf area which has a complex healthcare system including the UAE. Methods: The study used an exploratory descriptive designwith a qualitative part using two focus group interviews. The sample sizewas 450 nurses selected through a random sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire including the Practice Environment Scale of NursingWork Index (PES-NWI) was used. In addition, semi-structured interviews for two focus groups were done. Results: The results showed that UAE practicing nurses reported favorable perceptions of most aspects of their practice environment. Unfavorable perceptions were only reported for Staffing and Resource Adequacy. The analysis of focus group discussions resulted in different emerged themes such as Lack of Recognition and Career Promotion, and Nurses' Workload due to Paper and AdministrativeWork. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that strategic interventions are needed to secure adequate staff and resources and implement an effective system for evaluation of performance. This paper reports finding from a nested qualitative study designed to elicit the views and perceptions of those who participated in a randomised controlled feasibility trial testing a non-pharmacological intervention, Respiratory Distress Symptom Intervention (RDSI), for the management of the breathlessness-cough-fatigue symptom cluster in lung cancer. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 lung cancer patients, three caregivers and seven researchers involved in recruitment, consent, RDSI training and delivery and participant follow-up. Thematic analysis identified key considerations including: the importance of informed consent emphasising commitment to completion of paperwork and raising awareness of potential sensitivities relating to content of questionnaires; ensuring screening for the presence of symptoms reflects the language used by patients; appreciation of the commitment required from participants to learn intervention techniques and embed them as part of everyday life; conduct of interviews with patients who decline to participate; and conduct of serial interviews with those receiving RDSI to further inform its routine implementation into clinical practice. This study will inform the development of a fully powered follow-on trial testing the hypothesis that RDSI plus usual care is superior to usual care alone in the effective management of this symptom cluster in lung cancer. Background. With projected nursing shortages, an aging workforce, and the imminent retirement of nurse leaders, nursing leadership shortages are a concern. While several studies have indicated the interest of nurses in pursuing leadership positions, limited research has focused on examining the influence of the leadership practice environment on nurses' motivation to lead. Aim. The aims of the study were to (1) assess the relationship between the leadership environment and the motivation of nurses to lead and (2) determine whether there are particular aspects of the leadership environment that influence motivation to lead. Methods. A cross‐sectional research design was used to collect data from 435 nurses working in 16 public and private hospitals in Oman. Leadership Environment Scale and Motivation to Lead Scale were used to assess participants' perceived leadership environment and their motivation to engage in formal leadership roles, respectively. Multivariate linear regression was used to assess the relationship between the perceived leadership environment and the motivation of nurses to undertake leadership roles. Findings. Nurses reported a mean scale value of 3.208 out of 5 (SD = 0.467) for their motivation to lead, which exceeds the midpoint, indicating a strong motivation to engage in formal leadership roles. Nurses reported a mean score of 3.194 out of 4 (SD = 0.661), which exceeds the midpoint, suggesting a favorable perception of leadership environment. The findings showed a significant relationship between the leadership environment and nurses' motivation to lead. Specifically, self‐organization (β = 0.185, p = 0.001, CI = 0.086–0.378), agents (β = 0.221, p = 0.002, CI = 0.124–0.474), and transformative exchange (β = 0.100, p = 0.037, CI = 0.101–0.142) were characteristics of the leadership environment that were associated with greater motivation to engage in leadership. Conclusion. This study emphasizes the importance of cultivating a supportive leadership environment as a potential strategy to attract nurses to assume formal nursing leadership roles. Implications for Nursing Management. Strategies to improve nurses' motivation to lead in a complex healthcare environment include improving nurses' active involvement in their organization, creating a collegial supportive and mentoring leadership culture, and improving transformative exchange by supporting career and educational advancement. This study examined the associations between community social capital and self‐reported oral health among older adults in urban China, as well as the moderating effect of household income and the mediating role of depressive symptoms in these associations. Data were obtained from a community survey conducted in 2020 in Tianjin and Shijiazhuang City, China; the final analytical sample comprised 776 adults aged 60 years and above. To test the proposed moderation and mediation models, the data were analysed using binary logistic regression models and a path analysis, respectively. The findings showed that cognitive social capital and social participation (i.e., an indicator of structural social capital) were significantly associated with self‐reported oral health. Additionally, the results revealed that while income significantly moderated the association between cognitive social capital and self‐reported oral health, depressive symptoms significantly mediated it. The findings not only highlight the crucial role of community social capital in promoting oral health in later life among low‐income older adults but also provide important evidence for a psychosocial pathway between social capital and oral health. Given the impacts of income and depressive symptoms on the relationship between community social capital and oral health among older adults, future social policies and interventions to support oral health should target financially vulnerable older adults with poor psychological well‐being. Background. The worldwide pandemic of COVID‐19 had put enormous pressure on frontline healthcare workers. In December 2022, China released its "10 new measures," signaling the end of the "dynamic zero COVID‐19 strategy." This triggered a period of peak infection, which shocked China's healthcare system and affected the mental health of nurses. Objective. To explore the anxiety, depression, and social support levels of frontline nurses during the peak period of COVID‐19 infection and to identify the main needs and concerns of nurses during this period. Design. A multicenter cross‐sectional study. Settings. 18 hospitals of different grades in three cities in Hunan Province from December 21, 2022, to January 10, 2023, the peak period of COVID‐19 infection. Participants. A total of 4,160 nurses completed the survey. Methods. The questionnaire included general information, symptoms, the preparation for nurses, GAD‐7, PHQ‐9, PSSS, and two open‐ended questions investigating nurses' needs and concerns. General linear models were used to analyze the factors influencing anxiety. Hospital preparation for nurses, nurses' needs, and nurses' concerns were categorized and subjected to frequency counts. Results. The median (P25, P75) scores for anxiety and depression among nurses were 7.00 (3, 12) and 8 (3, 12), respectively. Type of hospital, professional title, family structure, isolation staff lounge preparation, ibuprofen preparation, health status of parents, fever, chest distress, dyspnea, cough, insufficient protective equipment, number of children, and PSSS others were the influencing factors of GAD grades. The top 3 needs were free drugs and treatments (78.71%), shift breaks and paid leave (77.66%), and understanding and supports from hospitals and families (75.99%). The first three concerns were the fear of spreading the disease to family members (83.89%), the after‐effects of infection (65.67%), and cross‐infection with colleagues and patients (61.70%). Conclusions. Nurses' anxiety was more severe during peak infection period. Overloaded work schedules and insufficient sleep became a common situation. Worries about family members became the main concern of nurses. Managers should make contingency plans for public health emergencies and provide frontline nurses with protective equipment, stress‐relieving measures, and a rotation system. More importantly, they should pay attention to the needs of nurses' family members and provide medical and care support. The media should also explain how hospitals operate and carry out their duties during these extraordinary times in order for the public to comprehend the condition of frontline epidemic fighters. Aim. The aim of this study was to understand the current status of knowledge-attitude-practice of ICU nurses in tertiary care hospitals regarding swallowing disorders after extubation of tracheally intubated patients and to analyse the influencing factors. Design. A cross-sectional study. Background. Most patients admitted to the ICU have an endotracheal tube, which may be the cause of acute and/or chronic problems after extubation. Therefore, training of ICU nurses and early extubation are essential to prevent these problems. Methods. A convenience sample of clinical nurses (n = 627) was selected from Grade A Hospitals in Northwest, North, and Central China as the study population. Survey instruments included the Questionnaire on ICU Nurses' Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Postextubation Swallowing Disorders in Patients with Tracheal Intubation. Data Sources. Data were sourced from structured questionnaire responses. Results. A total of 647 ICU nurses participated in this survey, with 627 valid questionnaires. The three dimensions of knowledge, attitude, practice, and the total score of the questionnaire on ICU nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice of postextubation swallowing disorders in patients with tracheal intubation were (6.46±3.09), (7.53±1.69), (4.89±2.00), and (18.88±5.18), respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors affecting the total score of PED among ICU nurses were age, nationality, professional title, job satisfaction, and mode of employment. Gender, age, nationality, and job satisfaction were the factors that influenced the score of knowledge. The influencing factors of attitude score include gender, age, nationality, section, professional title, job satisfaction, and mode of employment. The influencing factors of the score of knowledge include professional title and job satisfaction. Conclusion. The current status of ICU nurses' knowledge-attitude-practice regarding postextubation dysphagia in tracheally intubated patients is generally at a moderate to low level, and the level of knowledge-attitude-practice needs to be further improved. Implications for Nursing Management. The results of the study showed that the knowledge, attitude, and practice of ICU nurses towards tracheal intubation patients' postextubation dysphagia were in the lower middle level. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the knowledge, attitude, and practice of ICU nurses towards tracheal intubation patients' postextubation dysphagia. This may include, but is not limited to, the development of tools for assessing PED, systematic and professional training, and the development of multidisciplinary collaborative models. Objectives. To examine the effectiveness of a patient-family (carer) partnership intervention on the BP control, self-care and self-efficacy for hypertensive people, and dyadic-relationship quality, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and health-related quality of life for the family dyads (hypertensive people and family carers) in rural communities of mainland China. Design. A randomised controlled trial. Methods. A total of 110 family dyads were randomly recruited from village clinics and randomly allocated to the intervention group (n = 55) or control group (n = 55). Family dyads in the control group received usual care. In addition to the usual care, family dyads in the intervention group received the individual-based, five-session patient-family (carer) partnership intervention. The primary outcomes included SBP, DBP, and the proportion of people with normal controlled BP. EuroQol five-dimensional-five-level (EQ-5D-5L) was adopted to evaluate participants' health-related quality of life. Data were collected at the baseline (T0), one-month (T1), and three-month postintervention (T2). Generalised estimating equation model was adopted to test the study hypotheses on all study outcomes. Results. Compared with the control group, hypertensive people in the intervention group had a greater reduction in SBP by 10.10 mmHg and DBP by 4.66 mmHg and a larger proportion of people with normal BP at T2, as well as statistically significant improvements at T1 and T2 in dyadic relationship, self-care, antihypertensive drug-titration rate, anxiety symptoms, and health-related quality of life. The intervention also had statistically significant positive effects on family carer's dyadic relationship and health-related quality of life at T1 and T2. Conclusion. The patient-family (carer) partnership intervention has the potential to improve hypertensive people's BP control and family dyad's dyadic-relationship quality and mental health at short-to-medium term follow-ups. This study provided evidence and direction to support healthcare providers in developing and implementing patient-family (carer) partnership intervention for hypertension care in rural areas. This article uses an intersectionality lens to explore how experiences of race, gender, sexuality, class and their intersections are associated with depression and unmet need for mental healthcare in a population of 704 women and transgender/gender liminal people from Ontario, Canada. A survey collecting demographic information, information about mental health and use of mental healthcare services, and data for the Everyday Discrimination Scale and the PHQ-9 Questionnaire for Depression was completed by 704 people via Internet or pen-and-paper between June 2011 and June 2012. Bivariate and regression analyses were conducted to assess group differences in depression and discrimination experiences, and predictors of depression and unmet need for mental healthcare services. Analyses revealed that race, gender, class and sexuality all corresponded to significant differences in exposure to discrimination, experiences of depression and unmet needs for mental healthcare. Use of interaction terms to model intersecting identities and exclusion contributed to explained variance in both outcome variables. Everyday discrimination was the strongest predictor of both depression and unmet need for mental healthcare. The results suggest lower income and intersections of race with other marginalised identities are associated with more depression and unmet need for mental healthcare; however, discrimination is the factor that contributes the most to those vulnerabilities. Future research can build on intersectionality theory by foregrounding the role of structural inequities and discrimination in promoting poor mental health and barriers to healthcare. African Canadians comprise 2.5% of the population, but represent 9.5% of federal inmates - an increase of 80% since 2003-2004. Recidivism among federal inmates is high (about 40%). This paper outlines the findings, at 9 months after enrolment during 2011-2012, of a randomised controlled trial testing the effectiveness and cost of Redemption Reintegration Services ( RRS), a culturally specific, multi-level intervention for young African Canadian former inmates. Retention at 9 months was 95% of those randomised ( n = 115 per group) to RRS ( n = 114) or usual reintegration services ( n = 105) offered by the municipality. The primary outcomes were recidivism and service costs. Mediating and moderating measures were Personality Strengths, Developmental Assets, Meaning in Life, the Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth, the Youth Behaviour Checklist and Neighbourhood Vitality. Compared with the usual care group, the RRS group showed significant improvements in: self-reported Personality Strengths, Developmental Assets, the presence and search for Meaning in Life, social and individual risk factors, behaviour, and life events such as obtaining stable housing and enrolling in school. At 9 months, RRS participants generated significantly lower per person per annum expenditures for law enforcement services, housing services and total direct costs. Among RRS participants, 3.5% reported being re-charged for offences in the previous 9 months compared with 45.7% of the usual care group. The 2010-2011 average annual cost per person for incarceration was $114,364. The 48 individuals in the usual care group and 4 in RRS would generate costs of $5,489,472 and $457,456, respectively - a $5 million difference. Aim The purpose of the paper was to compare the prevalence of barriers to optimum postoperative pain management in elderly patients, observed by nurses in a clinical, provincial and municipal hospital in Poland. Background It is currently estimated that the lack of adequate pain management affects 80% of the global population and the phenomenon poses a serious problem in more than 150 countries. Methods A questionnaire-based study of 1602 nurses working at clinical, provincial and municipal hospitals. Results In the clinical hospitals barriers more often related to a poorly organised systems of care and obstacles in discussing pain management within the team. In provincial and municipal hospitals lack of uninform pain measurement was more evident. Conclusions Despite the availability of effective pain treatments in hospitals difficulties continue with communication, poorly organised care and limited access to clinical guidelines. Implications for nursing management Although there are possibilities of pain relief after surgery, they are still used insufficiently. Postoperative pain management in Poland needs considerable improvement. This study can contribute to the improvement of pain management quality by supporting and developing practical guidelines or management algorithms for nurses, facilitating the effective implementation of new pain management practices. Inclusive education has increased the demand for school-based occupational therapy services and has reconceptualised the practice in mainstream schools. Therapists are now expected to work collaboratively with teachers within tiered intervention models to support access and participation of all students, including those with disabilities, within the natural classroom context. School-based occupational therapy has become a specialised area of practice, as therapists work within educational, rather than health, systems and processes. While the growth in demand and expanded scope of practice is positive for the profession, predicted workforce shortages and the necessity for specialised and enhanced practice present significant challenges. The ability of the profession to fully support the demands of an inclusive education system remains unclear. As accurate, up-to-date information on the school-based therapy workforce is the foundation for planning future personnel needs, knowledge of the current state of the workforce is critical. There is a paucity of national data regarding this growing area of practice. The aim of this study is to describe a current profile of school-based occupational therapists to better understand the workforce, practice patterns, and the funding landscape in Australia. A convenient and purposive sample of 108 Australian paediatric occupational therapists working in mainstream primary schools in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria was surveyed in this quantitative study, which was analysed using descriptive statistics. Results provide some insights into the workforce and practice of school-based therapy in Australia offering preliminary data for future planning in this important and growing area of paediatric practice. Background. Electronic-prescribing (e-prescribing) is the most recent technological advancement in the medication use process. Its adoption and consequent realization of its potential benefits, however, mainly depend on the healthcare professionals' perception, willingness to accept, and engagement with the technology. Objectives. This study is aimed at assessing the perception of healthcare professionals towards e-prescribing at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia, from June 1 to August 30, 2021. Method. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a simple random sampling technique. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Data were entered into and analyzed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS® (IBM Corporation)) version 24. Both descriptive and inferential statistics like the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests were used for data analysis. A statistical significance was declared at a p value < 0.05. Result. From 401 participants, the majority of study participants had a neutral perception of e-prescribing. More than two-thirds (68.8%) of them had a neutral perception towards the perceived usefulness of e-prescribing with a median (interquartile range (IQR)) perceived usefulness of 43.0 (7.0) (maximum score = 60). The perceived ease of use of e-prescribing was also neutral in the case of more than three-fourths (79.8%) of participants with a median (IQR) perceived ease of use of 49.0 (6) (maximum score = 75). Similarly, more than half (56.6%) of the participants had a neutral perception towards the perceived fitness of e-prescribing with a median (IQR) perceived fitness of 15.0 (2.5) (maximum score = 15). The perception of the participants showed a significant difference based on their qualifications and work and computer use experience. Participants who heard about e-prescribing and e-prescribing software had a significantly higher mean rank score of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived fitness of e-prescribing. Participants who previously used e-prescribing had also a significantly higher mean rank score of perceived usefulness. Conclusion and Recommendation. The majority of healthcare professionals had a neutral perception of e-prescribing. The perception of healthcare professionals differs based on their qualifications, work and computer use experience, and their exposure to e-prescribing. The hospital should take all expectations and concerns of all HCPs into consideration and provide experience-sharing opportunities for all healthcare professionals who may potentially be involved in e-prescribing. Background. Violence at work against healthcare professionals is a frequent and pervasive problem. There are growing data that indicate nurses are especially susceptible to experiencing violent acts at work. Resilience helps strengthen nursing competency in the proper management of stressful circumstances, like being exposed to workplace violence. Aim. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of resilience on workplace violence among mental health nurses. Method. A cross-sectional research design was used to conduct this study with a convenience sample of 361 nurses recruited from a governmental psychiatric hospital in Saudi Arabia. Tools. Data were collected using two tools: the first tool was the workplace violence questionnaire, which collected nurses' demographic, job, and workplace violence data, and the second was the resilience at work scale to assess nurses' resilience. Results. This survey found that 70.4% of nurses experienced workplace violence in the last year, and fewer than half were resilient at work. Close to one-third (33.5%) of nurses were terrified and confused after workplace violence. The most violent repercussions were psychological (46.8%): dread, tension, and worry. Additionally, 48.8% of nurses exhibited high work resilience. Conclusion. A considerable percentage of mental health nurses encountered instances of violence during the provision of care inside mental health hospital settings. The variables of nationality (non-Saudi nurses), rotating work shift, educational levels, and exhibiting a lower level of resilience were found to have a statistically significant correlation with instances of workplace violence. Recommendation. Training programs and educational initiatives should be developed and implemented to equip nurses with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively respond to and prevent workplace violence incidents. By providing comprehensive training, healthcare organizations can empower nurses to address and mitigate workplace violence, ultimately creating a safer and more supportive work environment. Aims. To develop an evidence-based practice (EBP) facilitating strategy informed by the Integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (i-PARIHS) framework and evaluates the strategy's effectiveness on promoting EBP. Background. Nurses are increasingly expected to use research evidence in practice to improve patients' outcomes, but the application of such evidence is still unsatisfactory. The facilitation of EBP in nursing needs the organization and the individual levels. Methods. Based on an analysis of EBP-promoting strategies and expert consultation, the core team of the nursing department developed an EBP group-based and project-oriented strategy under the guidance of the i-PARIHS framework. The strategy was implemented for six years and evaluated by a longitudinal design. The validated Chinese version of the self-reported Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) was used to assess the attitudes, knowledge, and practice of the nurses. Results. The mean score of the total EBPQ was 4.46 (SD = 0.92) after one year of the EBP strategy, and the scores for knowledge, attitudes, and practice of EBP members were higher than those of general nurses p < 0.05 . After four years, EBP members' scores continued to increase. EBP groups conducted 51 EBP projects in the areas of emergency nursing, surgical and medical nursing, critical care, and so forth. Of these, 33 projects improved nursing practice by changing nursing procedures, upgrading nursing tools, and developing nursing standards, resulting in improved patient outcomes. Conclusion. The EBP group-based and project-oriented strategy can promote EBP. The composition of the EBP group, the annual audit of EBP projects, and the roles of internal and external facilitators were key components of this EBP-facilitating strategy. The strategy is an organizational-level EBP-facilitation approach which can improve nurses' academic preparation for EBP through ongoing training and sustained EBP behavior that involves annual projects. Background. Nurses are one of the largest and costliest groups in healthcare organizations; therefore, it is important to comprehend their scope of practice. Aim. To contribute to the improvement of nursing resource management in medical-surgical and Intensive Care Units by identifying factors that influence the scope of nursing practice. The hypothesis was that the activities carried out by nurses in medical-surgical units and intensive care units are influenced by individual and job-related factors, with job characteristics having an additive and moderating effect on individual characteristics. Materials and Methods. Cross-sectional correlational design to test the relationship between the individual and job characteristics on the nursing scope of practice measured by the Actual Scope of Nursing Practice (ASCOP) questionnaire. The sample consisted of 270 nurses. Linear mixed effects models analysis (LME) was used with the aleatory effect of the intensive care unit (ICU). Results. Belonging to the ICU decreased the scope of practice of nurses. We found a statistically significant effect of psychological demand, practice environment, role ambiguity, and growth need strength on the scope of nursing practice. The models explained a variance up to 24%. Conclusions. Although the survey results revealed the existence of broader scope of practice levels in Spanish hospital units than in the original Canadian study, the use of scope of nursing practice remains suboptimal. Higher levels on the psychological demand, the practice environment and in the individual growth need strength were related with a broader scope of practice. Otherwise, role ambiguity negatively affected the scope of practice. Implications for Nursing Management. This article provides an analysis of the impact of individual and job-related characteristics on the nursing scope of practice. Background. Haematology nurses in Singapore experience a highly stressful work environment and increased workload due to the growing number of patients and complex treatment regimens. High job demands can lead to burnout and high staff turnover rates, which compromises the quality of patient care. Aims. To assess perceived work demands, levels of social support from colleagues, professional quality of life (ProQOL), and turnover intentions among haematology nurses and examine whether demographic and occupational characteristics, perceived job demands, and support were associated with ProQOL and turnover intentions. Design. A descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional design was used in this study. Methods. A convenience sample of 60 haematology nurses working at a tertiary hospital in Singapore completed a self-administered survey. Perceived job demands, support from colleagues, ProQOL, and turnover intentions were measured using the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III), Professional Quality of Life Scale version 5 (ProQOL5), and Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6). Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and multiple linear regressions were employed for data analysis. Results. Haematology nurses face high cognitive and emotional demands and receive high levels of support from colleagues at work. The majority of the participants reported moderate to high levels of compassion satisfaction (78.3%), burnout (76.7%), and secondary traumatic stress (81.7%). 53.3% of the participants expressed their intention to leave. Perceived job demands were significant predictors of haematology nurses' ProQOL and turnover intentions. Compassion fatigue also significantly predicts turnover intentions. Conclusion. The high levels of burnout and secondary traumatic stress reported by haematology nurses highlight an urgent need to implement strategies to help nurses cope with the high work demands and reduce their levels of compassion fatigue. The findings in this study can help nursing leaders understand haematology nurses' perceived job demands and ProQOL, to develop strategies to improve the workplace environment and retention. Background. There was a remarkable downgrade in China's COVID-19 response strategies in January 2023. The COVID-19 infection rate grew rapidly in the early stages following the management policy shift. This study attempted to explore the associations between SARS-CoV-2 infection and mental or physical health status in pregnant and postpartum women and the role of perceived health risks and family members' SARS-CoV-2 infection status on these associations by capturing the impact of policy shifts in a short period of time. Methods. This cross-sectional study with a random sample from a convenience sample of hospitals was conducted in pregnant and postpartum women in January 2023. Standardized assessment tools were employed to assess anxiety, depressive and physical symptoms, and feelings of hopelessness. Hierarchical multiple logistic regressions were conducted to examine the mechanisms of associations of interests by including a range of sociodemographic factors, self-perceived health, SARS-CoV-2 infection status, and perceived health risks as covariates. Results. Of the 1,013 pregnant and postpartum women aged 32.0 ± 0.3 years, 58.2% (n = 590) were diagnosed with COVID-19, and 49.4% (n = 500) had family members who were infected with SARS-CoV-2. Nearly 98% of the included participants took measures to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection. A COVID-19 diagnosis was positively associated with feelings of hopelessness (OR = 1.68, 95% CI: 1.20–2.35), probable anxiety (OR = 6.42, 95% CI: 2.18–24.61), possible depression (OR = 2.56, 95% CI: 1.07–6.70), and physical symptoms (OR = 6.28, 95% CI: 1.63–42.03) after adjusting for sociodemographic and health characteristics, while the associations presented no statistical significance when family members' SARS-CoV-2 infection status and perceived health risks were introduced into the models. Conclusions. Our results suggested that pregnant and postpartum women may experience physical and mental health challenges when they or their family members contracted COVID-19 in the context of a considerable shift in COVID-19 management. Early detection of poor health status and its risk factors for vulnerable groups during shifts in health policy and administrative practice is very necessary, and health services, including easy access to psychosocial support and obstetric counselling, should be prioritized. Objective. Perceived control refers to an individual's subjective perception, affective experience, or cognitive beliefs regarding their level of control. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between perceived control and quality of life (QoL) among breast cancer (BC) patients using a structural equation model. Method. Participants (N = 80) completed questionnaire surveys on perceived control and QoL using the Cancer Experience and Efficacy Scale (CEES) and the Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30 V3.0), respectively. Structural equation modeling was employed to examine the associations between perceived control factors, including cancer experience and control efficacy, and QoL. Results. The QoL in BC patients was found to be significantly negatively correlated with physical symptoms, accounting for 51.6%. This indicates that the QoL of patients decreased by 51.6% with each unit increase in physical symptoms. In terms of perceived control among BC patients, socioeconomic strain exerted the greatest influence on cancer experience, accounting for 44.3%, followed by emotional strain and personal strain at 40.08% and 34.6%, respectively. Group efficacy had the highest impact on control efficacy at 43.0%, followed by individual efficacy and medical efficacy at 41.8% and 29.7%, respectively. QoL in BC patients decreased by 4.2% with every unit increase in cancer experience but improved by 3.5% with every unit increase in control efficacy. Conclusion. The structural equation model facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the interrelationships among various variables in perceived control and QoL among BC patients. The cancer experience in perceived control is negatively correlated with the QoL, whereas control efficiency demonstrates a positive correlation with QoL. Consequently, healthcare professionals should implement appropriate interventions to alleviate physical symptoms and enhance control efficiency, thereby improving both perceived control and QoL levels among BC patients. Aims. This study was designed to investigate the impact of inclusive leadership on challenge-oriented citizenship behaviors and examine the mediating role of organizational justice on the relationship between inclusive leadership and challenge-oriented citizenship behaviors among nurses. Background. Leaders exhibiting an inclusive leadership style have the potential to create a positive work climate and motivate members of the organization. However, the mechanisms by which organizational justice contributes to this process remain to be explored, particularly in terms of how it motivates challenge-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors. Method. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among nurses in China at the end period of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 527 registered nurses were enrolled and completed the self-report questionnaires including inclusive leadership scale, organizational justice scale, and challenge-oriented citizenship behavior scale. The hypotheses were tested using hierarchical multiple regression analyses and structural equation modelling. Results. The results of empirical tests revealed that nurse leader's inclusive leadership had a positive relationship on nurses' challenge-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors (β = 0.823, p < 0.001) after controlling several demographic covariates. Meanwhile, inclusive leadership was positively linked to organizational justice (β = 0.747, p < 0.001), and the indirect effect of inclusive leadership on nurses' challenge-oriented citizenship behaviors through organizational justice was statistically significant (β = 0.641, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the model fit indices were χ2/df = 1.952, RMSEA = 0.043, CFI = 0.979, and TLI = 0.977, indicating that the model had high quality. Conclusion. This study could help nurse leaders with inclusive leadership style have a better understanding and taking the advantages of the influence mechanism of organizational justice in inspiring nurses' challenge-oriented citizenship behaviors. While nurse managers can inspire challenge-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors through inclusive leadership, they should also emphasize the evaluative and behavioral-shaping effects of organizational justice. Both leadership and organizational justice are essential to motivate challenge-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors and to foster organizational development. Moreover, managers should focus on the process and conditions of implementing organizational justice to ensure fairness within the organization and to create a conducive environment for challenge-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors. Introduction. The unique demands of firefighting results in acute, recurrent, or chronic pain complications. We aimed to describe the percentage distribution of number and location of painful sites among FFs and determine whether work limitations differed based on the number or location of painful sites, age, and/or sex. Methods. About 325 firefighters completed a work limitation questionnaire (WLQ-26) and a checklist to indicate painful regions of the body using either a paper format or an online survey. A one-way ANOVA was employed to analyze the transformed work limitation scores; this was a two-sided test with a significance level of <0.05, to determine if work limitations differed among firefighters based on the number or location of painful sites, age, and/or sex. Results. The data analyzed consisted of 325 (men = 216 , women = 109) FFs in total. The percentage distribution of the number of painful sites in our study cohort was 43% no pain, 17% one painful site, 19% two painful sites, and 21% three or more painful sites. The percentage distribution of the locations of painful sites was 43% no pain, 41% spine, 9% lower extremity, and 7% upper extremity. An estimated 31% of FFs (n = 102) reported non-MSK comorbidities with 23% (n = 76) reporting at least one non-MSK comorbidity and 8% (n = 26) reported having two or more comorbidities. FFs > 45 years of age experienced more physical work limitations than FFs ≤ 45 years (mean difference: 0.74/10; 95% CI.19-1.29; p = 0.008). Conclusions. The majority of firefighters reported having at least one painful site and indicated the spine as the most common painful location. Following changes in the structure and funding of the Australian medical system, patients have become 'consumers' or 'clients'. Family and friends have become 'carers' or 'caregivers', signifying their increased responsibilities as patients move from hospitals to communities. While policy makers embrace the term 'carer', some argue that the title is not widely recognised and has disempowering connotations. This paper examines spouses' reflections on the term 'carer' based on qualitative interviews with 32 Australians caring for a spouse with cancer from a study conducted between 2006 and 2009. Recruitment involved survey and snowball sampling. Following a grounded theory approach, data collection and analysis were performed simultaneously. Using Holland and colleagues' sociocultural 'identity as practice' theory and a thematic approach to analysis, findings depict identification with the 'spouse' and 'carer' label as relationally situated and dependent on meaningful interaction. Although others argue that the term 'carer' is a 'failure', these findings depict identification with the label as contextual, positional and enacted, not fixed. Furthermore, and of most significance to practitioners and policy makers, the title has value, providing carers with an opportunity to position themselves as entitled to inclusion and support, and providing health professionals with a potential indicator of a spouse's increased burden. Hearing loss is one of the most prevalent health impairments associated with ageing in developed countries, and it can result in social, emotional and communication dysfunction. Hearing loss in Italy is increasing, yet, despite the availability of free hearing aids and access to qualified community-based health professionals specialising in audiology services, their uptake remains low (about 15%-20%). This paper presents an investigation of the possible reasons why older people in Italy resist adopting a hearing aid. We used the literature to identify factors influencing people with hearing loss's decision-making, and drew on the theory of reasoned action to create an explanatory model. To test our hypotheses, we applied a cross-sectional design. We developed a questionnaire including 13 items related to adopting a hearing aid. Health professionals identified 400 persons aged 60-90 who were candidates for a free hearing aid. Those willing to participate were sent a copy of the questionnaire and telephoned between August and September 2009; a total of 243 responded (response rate of 60.8%). Linear regression analysis highlighted that a person's intention to adopt a hearing aid was positively related to their attitude towards its adoption, but negatively linked to their perceived subjective norms. It was found that trust in the health professional does not moderate the relationship between a person's attitude and their intention to adopt a hearing aid, but trust mitigates the relationship between a person's perceived subjective norms and their intentions. These findings underline the importance of the potential role that the healthcare professional could play in reducing the uncertainty created by external social pressures. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the noise management performance of adult intensive care unit (ICU) nurses in Korea. The ICU environment is exposed to various types of noises due to the use of medical devices for the treatment of critically ill patients. The noise has an adverse effect on nurses' health and their nursing performance, which might potentially threaten patient safety. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 148 nurses working in adult ICUs from two university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires, which included various aspects such as noise knowledge, response to noise, patient safety culture, and noise management performance. Multiple regression analysis revealed that teamwork (β = 0.33, p = 0.004), patient safety policy, and procedure (β = 0.25, p = 0.037), which were subscales of patient safety culture, as well as frequency of noise experience (β = 0.16, p = 0.030) were significant factors affecting adult ICU nurses' performance of noise management. This study provides a significant basis for promoting adult ICU nurses' performance in noise management. A structured policy and procedure for noise management should be established for reducing noise in adult ICUs. In terms of nursing education, it is necessary to consider and develop team-based training programs to promote noise management performance in the ICU. Nurse managers and nursing organizations should consider how to create conditions in which nurses can recognize the importance of noise reduction and perform well in noise management. Home-based family support programs provide early intervention to support families with young children. Home visiting models typically serve pregnant and parenting women with risk factors known to influence the caregiver-child relationship including history of trauma, low academic achievement, low income, limited support networks, maternal depression, and maternal substance use. Few, if any, home visiting models, however, were developed specifically to support families affected by maternal substance use. The Team for Infants Exposed to Substance use (TIES) Program is a home-based family support program exclusively serving families affected by maternal substance use. The model design and intensive services allow TIES participants to achieve significant positive outcomes in the program's six goal areas: maternal substance use, parenting skills, child mental and physical health, maternal mental and physical health, family income, and family housing. Goal scores are assessed jointly by participants and staff throughout the program using a validated scale. Program staff hypothesize that goal attainment in these areas may be influenced by the therapeutic relationship developed between home visitors and participants. This relationship is assessed using the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI), a validated assessment of therapeutic alliance administered to both participants and staff. An analysis of 127 program participants shows that when controlling for home visitor WAI scores in multilevel models (MLMs), goal attainment scores improved from intake to discharge across all goal areas except for housing stability. Background. Being a nurse or physician in today's complex healthcare practice involves more than just responsibility for one aspect of care during one episode in a patient's care trajectory. Both professionals are expected to take on a clinical leadership role and contribute positively to the reduction of care fragmentation and help in spanning professional boundaries. Although nurses may be well placed to identify the needs for integration, they may lack the position and status (compared to physicians) to address those needs as leaders. The aim of this study is to analyse similarities and differences between nurses and physicians in clinical leadership roles within a hospital context and explore how this relates to their interdisciplinary collaborative behaviours and perception on their job. Method. A cross-sectional survey among physicians and nurses was conducted to measure clinical leadership, job satisfaction, workload, and interdisciplinary collaborative behaviours. Results. Our results suggest that nurses (n = 329) and physicians (n = 100) show similar clinical leadership behaviours, based on equivalent scores on the clinical leadership scale. However, physicians score higher on the global leadership scale indicating they are more likely to perceive themselves as leaders than nurses. As clinical leaders, both nurses and physicians are more likely to express interdisciplinary collaborative behaviours. Furthermore, physicians who scored higher on the clinical leadership scale reported higher satisfaction with their job, whereas, for nurses, their score on the clinical leadership scale did not relate to their job satisfaction. Conclusion. As nurses in hospitals have the most frequent and direct involvement with patients, it seems inevitable for them to act as clinical leaders to promote patient-centred care. However, nurses less often perceived themselves as clinical leaders while showing suitable behaviours. Future studies should focus on the strategies nurses use to exert their clinical leadership, and for example, if nurses require the use of more dominant strategies to effect change. Introduction. "Evidence-based practice" (EBP) is the process of incorporating clinical expertise and taking patient values and preferences into consideration when making clinical decisions. It is used to describe the provision of high-quality patient care. Objective. This study is aimed at assessing evidence-based practice and associated factors among health professionals working at public hospitals in Illu Aba Bora and Buno Bedele Zones, Oromia Region, Southwest Ethiopia, in 2022. Methods. An institution-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from May 8 to June 20 at public hospitals in Illu Aba Bora and Buno Bedele Zones, Oromia Region, Southwest Ethiopia. A total of 423 health professionals were included, using proportional allocation and simple random sampling. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Data was entered using EpiData version 4.6, and the collected data was cleared, arranged, coded, and then analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 26. Descriptive statistics and bivariable and multivariable analyses of logistic regression with AOR (95% CI) were performed at p < 0.05. Result. The study revealed that 36.2% of health professionals had good evidence-based practice. The factors found to be significantly associated with good EBP include having training in EBP (AOR = 5.43 ; 95% CI: 4.323, 9.532), good knowledge (AOR = 1.91 ; 95% CI: 1.065, 3.541), a favorable attitude (AOR = 1.91 ; 95% CI: 1.884, 2.342), and work experience greater than 5 years (AOR = 1.58 ; 95% CI: 1.482, 2.437). Conclusion. The evidence-based practice of health professionals was poor. Evidence-based practice should included in the curriculum, and also planned trainings need to be delivered to all health professionals, inorder to enhancing their knowledge as well as their attitudes by motivating them to increase evidence-based practice. Background. Adherence to complete decongestion therapy (CDT) is of utmost importance for patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). However, past studies have demonstrated that adherence to CDT in BCRL patients is less than satisfactory. Our study aimed to describe the level of adherence to CDT among BCRL patients and utilize the Health Belief Model to analyse the key factors that influence adherence. Methods. We employed a convenient sampling method to select 158 patients with BCRL who were in the maintenance stage of CDT in a grade A tertiary tumour hospital in Guangzhou. A questionnaire survey was used to investigate patients' adherence to CDT, as well as their sociodemographic characteristics, medical history characteristics, disease knowledge, and health beliefs. Results. The CDT adherence score of BCRL patients was 96.46 ± 18.46 points, with an average score of 2.61 ± 0.50 points per item. The adherence rate was 65.18 ± 12.47%, indicating a moderate level of adherence. Factors that significantly influenced CDT adherence in BCRL patients included age under 45 years, having 0 or 1 child, experiencing 9 lymphedema symptoms, and having low levels of disease knowledge and health beliefs (p < 0.05). Conclusions. The level of adherence to CDT in BCRL patients is moderate and requires improvement. To enhance adherence to CDT, medical professionals should focus on patients who are younger, have fewer children, exhibit fewer symptoms of lymphedema, possess limited disease knowledge, and have weak health beliefs. Aims This paper compares the perceptions of nurse managers and nurses about self-leadership of professional nurses while taking ownership of capacity building during unit management. Background The Nursing Strategy for South Africa states that the competency of nurses is dependent upon factors that lead to capacity building. Method A quantitative design was followed by conducting a survey. The target population included nurse managers and professional nurses working at an academic public hospital in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. Results The findings indicate shortcomings in relation to advising professional nurses about self-direction while taking ownership of their daily pressures and stresses associated with unit management. Conclusion Professional nurses should develop their confidence by focusing on their self-leadership strengths when managing a unit.
