Aim: The present study aimed to examine the effects of a learning programme for nurse managers on connecting learning with their own experiences and fostering competence. Background: In Japan, second‐level programmes for certified nurse administrators represent the main opportunity for formal training for nurse managers. However, it is difficult for nurse managers to transfer second‐level programme learning to their workplace. Methods: This quasi‐experimental study used a two‐group pretest–posttest design with purposive sampling and non‐random assignment of 29 consenting Japanese nurse managers who were participating in a second‐level programme through a prefectural nursing association. The programme provided reflection papers and feedback from a researcher, as well as reflective group sessions. The outcome measure was the Japanese First‐Line Nurse Managers Competence Inventory (JNMCI) score. Results: The intervention group showed significant improvement in JNMCI scores after participating in the programme. A significant difference in JNMCI scores was also observed between the intervention and comparison groups. Conclusion: This learning programme led to improved competency among nurse managers. Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse manager development programmes should include reflection papers and feedback, as well as reflective group sessions, to improve competency among nurse managers. This paper constructs a platform framework for extensive data analysis of college students' psychological quality with the help of the thinking mode of big data and related technologies and proposes the construction principles, data sources, data processing methods, data platform construction, and platform application of big data analysis platform for college students' psychological quality assessment. This paper combines the application methods of big data technology, collects the management data related to the psychological quality assessment of college students, saves them into the system database with certain storage logic, and realizes the function of psychological quality assessment through the design of selected psychological quality assessment data, data management and data resource management and other parts based on the data results of extensive data analysis. This study provides some insights into the psychological quality assessment of college students. The strength of association between the variables of psychological quality assessment of college students changes over time, but the overall psychological structure is more stable. Aim: To assess the perception of the nursing profession in Armenia from the perspective of multiple stakeholders, including nurses and the general public. Background: Nurses' role perception is a complex phenomenon defined by multiple stakeholders. Methods: The assessment used a convergent parallel mixed‐methods design, with a dominant qualitative status. We conducted the qualitative phase through focus group discussions and in‐depth interviews with 235 people and collected quantitative data in a cross‐sectional telephone survey with 389 participants. Results: The nursing profession has been influenced by medical hierarchy and subordination, and none of the participants recognized nursing as an autonomous health care profession. The quantitative survey findings were largely consistent with the qualitative results. Our findings highlighted empathy and compassion as inherent qualities of nurses in Armenia. Conclusion: To change opinions about the nursing profession and highlight nurses' meaningful contribution to the provision of health care services, it is important to develop a national definition of nursing and introduce higher educational opportunities for nurses in Armenia. Background. Novel educational strategies are essential to cultivate a cadre of nurses with the requisite skills, critical thinking abilities, and adaptability demanded by contemporary healthcare contexts. The shift towards various learning modalities in nursing education, including online, hybrid, and in‐person formats, raises questions about their impact on student engagement and academic self‐concept. Objectives. This study aimed to assess and compare the levels of student engagement and academic self‐concept among nursing students engaged in different study modalities (online, hybrid, and in‐person). Methods. In this descriptive comparative study, 203 nursing students were evaluated using the university student engagement inventory (USEI) and academic self‐concept questionnaire (ASCQ). Participants were divided into groups based on their involvement in online, hybrid, or in‐person study modes. Differences and correlational analysis within variables were performed to evaluate the comparison between groups. Results. Significant differences were observed in the USEI scores among the study modalities: online (mean = 45.7, SD = 5.6), hybrid (mean = 48.8, SD = 6.1), and in‐person (mean = 50.4, SD = 6.2), with in‐person students displaying the highest levels of engagement (F = 10.663, P < 0.001). Academic self‐concept scores also varied notably (F = 9.422, P < 0.001) between modalities, particularly between online (mean = 54.8, SD = 5.3) and in‐person students (mean = 58.8, SD = 7.7). Correlational analysis within each modality revealed significant relationships among the subdomains of USEI and ASCQ. Conclusion. The study demonstrates that the mode of study substantially influences nursing students' engagement and academic self‐concept, with in‐person learners showing higher scores in both domains. Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality globally, particularly in developing countries such as Ethiopia. Periodic assessments of IPI prevalence are essential prerequisite for effective control measures. Therefore, this cross‐sectional study is aimed at determining the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections and associated risk factors among schoolchildren at Wonji Shoa Secondary School, East Shoa Zone, Adama district, Oromia region, Ethiopia, between January and June 2022. A simple random stratified sampling technique was employed to select participants. Sociodemographic and risk factor data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Stool samples were examined to identify parasites. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression were conducted to assess associations between variables and then the strength of the association. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the 403 selected students, 330 completed the study that makes 81.89% response success. The overall IPI prevalence was 16.66% (55/330), with a higher prevalence among males (60%, 33/55) than females (40%, 22/55). Five parasite species were identified: two protozoa (Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia) with a combined prevalence of 9.70% (32/330) and three helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Hymenolepis nana, and Taenia spp.) with a combined prevalence of 6.97% (23/330). Cysts were detected in 62.5% of E. histolytica cases (15/24), and eggs were detected in 76.92% of A. lumbricoides cases (10/13). The study revealed a substantial IPI prevalence (16.66%) among the students. This finding underscores the need for effective prevention and control strategies. The predominance of parasitic infections among males is notable requiring further investigation of the factors. The identification of multiple parasite species indicates a complex epidemiological scenario. The presence of protozoan cysts and helminthic eggs highlights the potential for fecal‐oral transmission and the importance of improved sanitation and hygiene practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Loneliness research has tended to focus on mainstream and older populations despite evidence that non‐mainstream groups, like those experiencing homelessness, may experience loneliness differently. Limited existing research indicates that (a) people who have been homeless experience loneliness as multidimensional (as a pluralistic, non‐unidimensional emotion, experienced specific to lacked relationships) and (b) mainstream loneliness scales may be inappropriate for this group. The current study piloted and appraised the feasibility the short version of the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (SELSA‐S) among 129 Australian adults with a lived experience of homelessness. Exploratory Factor Analysis and an observational questionnaire appraisal were used to assess factorial and content validity and showed the measure did not fit this sample as well as in mainstream samples. Removal of items that participants found difficult to comprehend/answer improved the factorial fit of the scale. In conclusion, the SELSA‐S may be inappropriate for measuring loneliness among people who have experienced homelessness. Further research needs to explore the potentially different structure of loneliness among marginalised groups so that a better understanding of loneliness can be reached. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Consumer-directed care (CDC) is increasingly widespread among aged care service options in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. However, the evidence base regarding the programmatic and contextual factors that affect the outcome of CDC interventions is surprisingly small. This paper reports on a self-directed care approach for older Australians with complex care needs. A multimethods longitudinal comparative cohort study was employed comprising 4 survey tools and 56 semi-structured interviews. Participation rates were around 20%. A total of 185 (98 in the intervention and 87 in the control group) older people and carers were recruited at baseline. Eleven months later, 109 participants (59 in the intervention and 50 in the control group) completed the repeat measure. Attrition rates were around 40%. Data collection occurred between July 2010 and April 2012. The data suggest that intervention group participants were likely to be more satisfied with the way they were treated (P = 0.013), their care options (P = 0.014), the 'say' they had in their care (P < 0.001), the information they received regarding their care (P = 0.012), what they were achieving in life (P = 0.031), that the services changed their view on what could be achieved in life (P = 0.020) and with their standard of living (P = 0.008). The evaluation suggests that while only a very small segment of older people is interested in a voucher or cash option, a substantially larger group would like to have greater say over and more direct access to their care, without, however, assuming administrative and financial responsibilities. The paper concludes that a stepped capacity-building approach to CDC may improve the acceptability of CDC to older people and generate synergies that improve older people's care outcomes. Aim: To explore nurses' perceptions of their practice environment in acute care hospitals in Sharjah and North Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Background: The health of the environment in which registered nurses' work is critical to nursing outcomes. The interest to examine the practice environment extended to the Gulf area which has a complex healthcare system including the UAE. Methods: The study used an exploratory descriptive designwith a qualitative part using two focus group interviews. The sample sizewas 450 nurses selected through a random sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire including the Practice Environment Scale of NursingWork Index (PES-NWI) was used. In addition, semi-structured interviews for two focus groups were done. Results: The results showed that UAE practicing nurses reported favorable perceptions of most aspects of their practice environment. Unfavorable perceptions were only reported for Staffing and Resource Adequacy. The analysis of focus group discussions resulted in different emerged themes such as Lack of Recognition and Career Promotion, and Nurses' Workload due to Paper and AdministrativeWork. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that strategic interventions are needed to secure adequate staff and resources and implement an effective system for evaluation of performance. Aim The purpose of the paper was to compare the prevalence of barriers to optimum postoperative pain management in elderly patients, observed by nurses in a clinical, provincial and municipal hospital in Poland. Background It is currently estimated that the lack of adequate pain management affects 80% of the global population and the phenomenon poses a serious problem in more than 150 countries. Methods A questionnaire-based study of 1602 nurses working at clinical, provincial and municipal hospitals. Results In the clinical hospitals barriers more often related to a poorly organised systems of care and obstacles in discussing pain management within the team. In provincial and municipal hospitals lack of uninform pain measurement was more evident. Conclusions Despite the availability of effective pain treatments in hospitals difficulties continue with communication, poorly organised care and limited access to clinical guidelines. Implications for nursing management Although there are possibilities of pain relief after surgery, they are still used insufficiently. Postoperative pain management in Poland needs considerable improvement. This study can contribute to the improvement of pain management quality by supporting and developing practical guidelines or management algorithms for nurses, facilitating the effective implementation of new pain management practices. Following changes in the structure and funding of the Australian medical system, patients have become 'consumers' or 'clients'. Family and friends have become 'carers' or 'caregivers', signifying their increased responsibilities as patients move from hospitals to communities. While policy makers embrace the term 'carer', some argue that the title is not widely recognised and has disempowering connotations. This paper examines spouses' reflections on the term 'carer' based on qualitative interviews with 32 Australians caring for a spouse with cancer from a study conducted between 2006 and 2009. Recruitment involved survey and snowball sampling. Following a grounded theory approach, data collection and analysis were performed simultaneously. Using Holland and colleagues' sociocultural 'identity as practice' theory and a thematic approach to analysis, findings depict identification with the 'spouse' and 'carer' label as relationally situated and dependent on meaningful interaction. Although others argue that the term 'carer' is a 'failure', these findings depict identification with the label as contextual, positional and enacted, not fixed. Furthermore, and of most significance to practitioners and policy makers, the title has value, providing carers with an opportunity to position themselves as entitled to inclusion and support, and providing health professionals with a potential indicator of a spouse's increased burden. Purpose. To maintain the quality of patients care, head nurses (HNs) are confronting various contradicting issues that require the ability to manage polarities and concern coaching behaviors as exploring situations, building alliances, and maintaining communication with nurses. This study aimed to explore the effect of HNs' workplace polarity management educational intervention on their coaching behaviors. Design. A quasiexperimental (pre-posttest) research design was used. Method. This study was conducted at Tanta International Teaching Hospital, on 12 HNs and 300 nurses using three tools: (I) a polarity management knowledge questionnaire; (II) a polarity map evaluation observational checklist; and (III) a nurses' perception of the HNs' coaching leadership behaviors questionnaire. The statistical tests used were as follows: the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the significance of the obtained results was judged at the 5% level; the marginal homogeneity test, ANOVA with repeated measures, the Wilcoxon signed ranks test, and the Friedman test. The study was conducted between end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. The educational intervention included 3 sessions: polarity management and the keys to manage it, polarity map (stability versus change), and head nurses' role in managing polarity and how it reflects on their coaching leadership behavior. HNs' ability to practice polarity management was classified into levels according to cutoff points: high >75%, moderate 60–75%, and low <60%. Results. Before intervention (66.7%, 100%) of head nurses had poor knowledge and low practice that changed after 3 months of intervention to be 58.3% and 41.7%, respectively. Before and 3 months after the intervention (70.0%, 33.7%) of nurses perceived that head nurses had a low and a moderate level of coaching, respectively. 70.0% of working nurses reported that they noticed that head nurses' coaching behaviors were low before the educational intervention, but the percentage decreased by half three months after the educational intervention. Conclusion. Implementing the educational intervention for head nurses about workplace polarity management significantly correlated with the nurses' perception of their HNs' coaching behaviors. Background. Worldwide, hospitals are required to prioritize the culture of quality in infection prevention (CQIP) for patient safety. Assessing CQIP is crucial, but there is limited research, especially regarding nurses' perceptions. Insufficient information exists due to scarcity of validated instruments in local languages to measure CQIP internationally. Purpose. This study assessed the "Leading a Culture of Quality in Infection Prevention Scale" Russian version's (LCQ-IPS-R) validity and reliability to assess the CQIP of hospitals in Kazakhstan based on nurses' perceptions. Methods. This study utilized a methodological design and analyzed data from 204 nurses at the "National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health" in Astana City, Kazakhstan. The "cultural and linguistic adaptation" process involved a "forward-backward translation" technique. Content validity and construct validity were examined. Internal consistency reliability was explored for scale reliability. Results. The scale's mean item range was from 3.56 (SD = 1.22) to 4.40 (SD = 0.85; SD = 0.92). The corrected item-total correlation ranged from 0.321 to 0.707. Six experts rated the I-CVI from 0.83 to 1.00, with an S-CVI/Ave of 0.90. The principal component analysis with Varimax rotation produced four distinct components of the LCQ-IPS-R, explaining 69.8% of the total variance. The tests of correlation between the LCQ-IPS-R's four components revealed medium to large positive associations among the components (r = 0.25–0.55, p < 0.001). The computed α for the LCQ-IPS-R was 0.909 while α values from four subscales ranged from 0.809 to 0.921. Conclusions/Implications for Practice. This study provides evidence of the LCQ-IP-R's reliability and validity in evaluating Russian-speaking nurses' perception of their hospital's CQIP. These findings open the door for further research on CQIP in healthcare settings in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and other Russian-speaking countries. Background. The high turnover rate of new nurses is significantly impacted by the transition issue. Practice readiness has been identified as a key factor in ensuring a smooth transition, but there is currently a lack of specific instruments available in China to measure it. Aims. To translate and adapt the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey and validate its psychometric properties in senior nursing students in the Chinese cultural context. Methods. The descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. The English version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey was translated into Chinese according to Brislin's translation guidelines. A total of 590 senior nursing students from three nursing schools in China were surveyed with the Chinese version of the Readiness for Practice Instrument. Data analyses were performed to assess the reliability and validity of the instrument. The STROBE guidelines were used as the reporting method. Results. The validated Chinese version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey contained 18 items in the same four dimensions as the original English version. The internal consistency was satisfactory, with Cronbach's α and composite reliability values for all four dimensions above 0.70. The final confirmatory factor analysis model also demonstrated good fit indices, with the average variance extracted values for all dimensions above 0.50. Conclusion. The validated Chinese version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey is a reliable and effective instrument for measuring the readiness for practice among senior nursing students in China. Implications for Nursing Management. This study presents a valuable contribution to adapting an effective and reliable tool to assess readiness for practice among Chinese senior undergraduate nursing students. This will enable the development of specific strategies based on cultural context to optimize the readiness for practice for senior nursing students and smooth the transition of new nurses in China. Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscle which requires energy expenditure is known as physical activity (PA). WHO has recommended that at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity PA or a combination of both per week is required for health benefits. Physical inactivity is one of the strongest risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and other conditions and is attributable to 6% of global premature death. However, data on the PA of teachers are unavailable in Nepal. They are considered one of the risk groups for NCDs because of the less active nature of their job. So, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the educational intervention based on the theory of planned behaviour on PA intention among secondary school teachers in Bhaktapur district, Nepal. For this study, we recruited 126 teachers from 6 schools. Each intervention and control group contained three randomly selected secondary schools. All the teachers from the selected schools were enrolled in the respective groups. A quasiexperimental (pretest-posttest control group) study design was used to test the effectiveness of the intervention on attitude, behaviour control, subjective norms, and intention for engaging in regular PA. Both groups underwent baseline and follow-up assessments at four weeks using the self-administered questionnaire developed for this study. The intervention group delivered a one-hour lecture session supported by audio-video materials for PA promotion. The effect was analysed by comparing the changes in the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) constructs within and between intervention and control groups. The difference in scores between and within the groups was tested using Student's t -test. Adjusted difference-in-difference scores were calculated through linear regression. Data analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Science version 26.0. The adjusted mean score increase in TPB constructs due to the interaction of time and intervention increased from 0.641 to 1.381. The highest gain (beta = 1.381) was seen in the intention score, while a minor improvement was seen in perceived behavioural control (beta = 0.641). After the intervention, the net increase in PA intention score was 9.35% compared to the control group. Thus, the promotion package was effective in increasing PA intention. The findings of this study and educational package could be helpful in encouraging teachers to engage in PA in other schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The COVID‐19 pandemic's ongoing effects and long‐term implications for the mental and social state of cancer patients are not yet fully known. The current study examined cancer patients' feelings about the pandemic's long‐term impact on daily life 1 year after its outbreak in Israel and after the patient's vaccination against the virus. Methods: Ten in‐depth semi‐structured interviews were conducted with cancer patients between February and April 2021. Results and Conclusions: Findings indicated four main themes: (1) managing medical care and support from the medical staff, (2) the effect of the pandemic on social interactions; (3) the impact of the pandemic on family and social support and (4) the patients' psychological well‐being. Despite the patients being vaccinated, the full impact of the pandemic on cancer patients' mental and social states is still fully apparent. The findings reflect the need to assess and monitor the patients' mental state and social and medical needs during this complex time and the importance of developing external support networks. Background: The recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has imposed severe psychological pressure on nurses. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective in improving professional quality of life (ProQOL) and reducing psychological distress in a wide range of populations and contexts. However, its role in supporting critical care nurses during the outbreak of COVID‐19 has yet to be established. Purpose: This study explores the relationship of mindfulness with negative emotional states and ProQOL among nurses working in critical care units during COVID‐19 pandemic. Methods: A cross‐sectional descriptive correlational design was used. A sample of 156 critical care nurses completed self‐reported measures of mindfulness, ProQOL, and negative emotional states. Multiple regressions were used to address the study purpose. Results: Overall, the participants had severe anxiety, moderate depression, moderate stress, moderate burnout, moderate secondary traumatic stress, and moderate compassion satisfaction. Mindfulness was significantly and negatively associated with stress (r = − 0.230, p =.004), depression (r = − 0.190, p =.018), burnout (r = − 0.218, p =.007), and secondary traumatic stress (r = − 0.168, p =.037). Mindfulness explained 3% of the variance in depression (B = −0.19, p =.018), 3.9% of variance in stress, (B = −0.201, p =.012), 4.2% of variance in BO (B = −0.206, p =.009), and 2.2% of the variance in secondary traumatic stress (B = −0.168, t = −2.104, p =.037), controlling for demographics. Conclusions: The current study provides preliminary evidence that mindfulness can be helpful in reducing critical care nurses' psychological distress and promoting their ProQOL, and is worthy of further investigation in this population. Objective. This study expects to investigate and verify the intervention effect of the university's innovative teaching management model on college students' resilience by implementing the university's innovative teaching management model for college students with low psychological resilience. Method. The scientific scale is used to investigate the current level of college students' psychological resilience, and the development characteristics of college students' psychological resilience are obtained through statistical analysis. Based on the theoretical analysis of the application of psychological resilience intervention, combined with the theory of one-to-one tutoring and operational techniques, the university's innovative teaching management mode scheme is designed. The design adopts a quasi-experimental pre-experimental test to investigate and explore the intervention effect system of the university's innovative teaching management mode on college students' psychological resilience. In the intervention, each unit of activity is carried out in strict accordance with the established plan, and records and reflections are made at the end. One-to-one and face-to-face qualitative interviews were conducted with the subjects, and qualitative data were collected for qualitative analysis. Results/Discussion. Compared with the control group that did not receive the intervention, the psychological resilience of the subjects in the experimental group was significantly improved after receiving the intervention of the university's innovative teaching management model. The university's innovative teaching management model has a good intervention effect on the resilience of college students. The university's innovative teaching management model scheme compiled in this study integrates a variety of psychotherapy methods and combines one-to-one psychological counseling frameworks and techniques. Aim: The aim of the current study was to examine the relationship between work engagement and perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy among registered nurses in Jordanian hospitals. Background: Nurses constitute the backbone of the health care system. Work engagement among nurses is critical due to its various positive outcomes: it enhances job satisfaction, job performance, organisation commitment and emotional health. According to the job demand–resource model, perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy increase work engagement. Method: A cross‐sectional, descriptive and correlational design and multistage cluster sampling were implemented. A total of 186 registered nurses were recruited. Self‐administered questionnaires were used to collect data from the participants. Results: Nurses showed an average level of work engagement. The dedication subscale showed the highest score among the three subscales representing work engagement. The results showed that perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy were positively correlated with work engagement (p <.01). Conclusion: Perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy correlated positively with work engagement. Implications for nursing management: An effort should be made to provide a supportive work environment by offering training programmes, sufficient job resources and positive feedback, which, in turn, improve nurses' work attitudes, self‐efficacy, perception of the work environment and intention to stay in a health organisation. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of emotional freedom technique (EFT) on sleep quality and happiness of women who underwent breast cancer surgery and lived in military and nonmilitary families. Design and Methods: The patients were randomly divided into four groups of military intervention (n = 34), nonmilitary intervention (n = 33), military control (n = 31), and nonmilitary control (n = 35). Data were collected using demographic information form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. Findings: The mean scores of sleep quality and happiness in military and nonmilitary intervention groups improved significantly immediately and 1 month after the intervention compared to control groups (p < 0.001). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the military and nonmilitary intervention groups regarding the mean scores of sleep quality and happiness before, immediately, and 1 month after the intervention (p > 0.05). Practice Implications: Given the efficacy of EFT in improving sleep quality and happiness, it is recommended that this technique be taught to nurses to implement in the entire process of providing nursing care to cancer patients. Purpose: To assess the psychometric properties of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), and evaluate the indirect effect of social phobia between perfectionism and life satisfaction (LS). Methods: A cross‐sectional study enrolled 683 Lebanese adults (April–May 2021). Results: The confirmatory factor analysis results confirmed the one‐factor solution of the SPIN items (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92). Social phobia had an indirect effect in the association between rigid, self‐critical, and narcissistic perfectionism and life satisfaction. Practice Implications: The study results confirm the psychometric properties of the SPIN to assess social phobia and constitute a preliminary database of the variables that interplay with LS in the Lebanese population. Objective. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™) 4.0 is a health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measure designed for clinical practice and research, health policy evaluation, and general population surveys. There is a dearth of instruments measuring quality of life in children which are available in Chinese and validated for Chinese populations. Therefore, this study attempted to establish the Hong Kong populations' norms for the Chinese version of PedsQL™ and examined the psychometric properties of the measure for this population. Methods. Sixty-nine children (aged 7 to 12 years) and their parents completed the child self-report and the parent proxy report, respectively, of the PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Module. To evaluate construct validity, a group comparison of children with special educational needs (SEN) (n = 21) and those with typical development (TD) (n = 48) was conducted. Differences based on age group and gender and parent–child agreement on the perception of the child's HRQOL were also examined. Results. Children with SEN had a lower quality of life perception than those with TD in the physical, social, and schooling domains. No significant differences in emotional health were found between the two groups. The differences between the children with SEN and with TD varied based on age group and gender. The differences between the parents' and children's perceptions of the children's HRQOL were insignificant in this sample. Conclusion. Norms for the Chinese version of the PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Module for the Hong Kong population were established in the study, and both the child self-report and parent proxy report were found to be reliable and valid for this population. Utilising telepractice videoconferencing technology to offer home visitation services has the potential to provide access and parenting support through a high‐tech and high‐touch service delivery option. Families can receive evidence‐based, family support intervention from their home via videoconferencing technology, removing the need for the provider to be physically in the home. While the expansion of telehealth and telepractice services for families is essential for meeting the needs of both parents and their children, well‐documented engagement barriers to digital health/computer‐mediated interventions exist across treatment modalities and technology platforms. Semi‐structured interviews with 15 providers were conducted and analysed to identify engagement strategies utilised to sustain families in a home visitation model offered through live videoconferencing technology on a telehealth platform. Analysis revealed four themes that were deemed essential for successfully attracting and maintaining families in a telepractice‐based home visitation programme: (a) engagement strategies to encourage families to participate; (b) clinical skills used within sessions; (c) articulation of benefits to the family; and (d) exploration of rationale for ending services. This study was able to identify strategies for engagement and sustained involvement of families in telehealth‐based home visitation. One in four American women will experience a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death each time she becomes pregnant. These perinatal losses occur even more frequently in women who are immigrants from developing countries. Care of Muslim families after perinatal loss is based primarily on expert opinion as opposed to research evidence, as few, if any, studies exist on this topic. It is critically important to know what parent's preferences for care actually are, since care that is incongruent with the desires of the bereaved parents may intensify their grief. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions and attitudes of immigrant Arab Muslims regarding psychosocial bereavement practices common in the United States after perinatal loss and to pilot test an investigator‐developed instrument for collecting data regarding culturally relevant psychosocial bereavement practices of immigrant Arab Muslims after perinatal loss. The study employed a cross‐sectional survey design using an investigator‐developed instrument entitled the Arab Muslim Perceptions of Perinatal Loss Care (AMPPLC). The AMPPLC, available in both English and Arabic, was used to collect data on perinatal loss care from a convenience sample of 79 immigrant Arab Muslim adults (male n = 43 [54.4%]; female n = 36 [45.6%]). The study opened in June 2017 and closed in August 2019. The AMPPLC instrument demonstrated good reliability (α = 0.89) in measuring participants' responses. Responses by survey participants did not always agree with prior published literature on Muslim preferences after a loss. Optimal care for Arab Muslim immigrants involves offering all options that are typically part of Western bereavement care as well as options that may be more specifically associated with Islam. This information will enable healthcare providers to provide more culturally sensitive and compassionate care to Middle Eastern Muslim parents during this difficult and tragic experience. Introduction. Poor decision-making power on family planning among married women is a public health concern. Despite this, there is a scarcity of research done on decision-making power of family planning use as one of their basic human rights. The study is aimed at determining the magnitude of married women's decision-making power on family planning use and its associated factors. Methods. This was a community-based cross-sectional study that was conducted on married women from May, 01-30/2021. A multistage systematic random sampling technique was applied to select 620 eligible study participants. The study used semi-interviewer questionnaires to collect data, and the collected data were entered into EpiInfo version 3.7.2 and then exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used. The strength of associations of variables was described by using odds ratio, 95% confidence level, and P values less than 0.05. Results. A total of 620 women were interviewed with 98% of the response rate. Overall, married women's decision-making power on family planning was 440 (71.0%). Odds of decision-making power on family planning use were higher among women who have primary education (AOR = 11.31 , CI: 4.90-26.09) and secondary and above (AOR = 6.99 , CI: 3.89-12.56) as compared with those who have no education. Husbands with secondary and above educational level (AOR = 3.27 , CI: 1.58-6.78), having good knowledge about family planning use (AOR = 2.41 , CI: 1.48-3.95) and having a good attitude towards family planning (AOR = 6.59 , CI: 4.01-10.75), had higher odds of decision-making power on family planning. Conclusion. Women's educational status, knowledge, and attitude increased the odds of decision-making power on family planning. Baby‐led weaning or self‐regulated small chunk feeding by the baby has emerged as an alternative to the traditional method of complementary feeding. Parents and healthcare professionals often differ in the benefits and drawbacks about it. The research aims were to describe the knowledge of health professionals about complementary feeding and baby‐led weaning (BLW) method and the attitudes towards its recommendation, and to explore the knowledge, experiences and attitudes of parents who have used this method to feed their children. A mixed methods research was carried out. A questionnaire was completed by 38 health professionals and 10 interviews were conducted with participating mothers. A total of 52.6% of health professionals recommended initiating complementary feeding at 6 months of age, a guideline followed by the mothers who used BLW. Some 86.8% of the professionals knew the BLW method and 76.3% knew its benefits, but the mothers consulted mainly informal sources of information sources to learn about and implement it. The health professionals stated that it facilitated family transition, enabled the infant to adapt better to flavours and textures, promoted chewing and the development of fine motor skills, improved growth and might also be a protective factor against obesity. The mothers noted that the method was natural, encouraged infant autonomy and promoted healthy eating habits. The health professionals expressed varied opinions concerning the risks entailed in the method. The main conclusions are that the majority of health professionals participating in the study know the BLW method, its benefits; however, they do not recommend it in all cases. Background: According to the literature, self‐care in persons with heart failure is inadequate. Such inadequate levels of self‐care necessitate a thorough investigation of the potential predictors. Purpose: To: (a) determine the level of self‐care among persons with heart failure in Jordan; (b) determine the relationship between mindfulness, impulsivity, and self‐care among persons with heart failure; (c) investigate the potential moderation effect of impulsivity on the relationship between mindfulness and self‐care. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted. A convenience sample of 100 persons with heart failure in an outpatient clinic at King Abdullah University Hospital was recruited. The following tools were used to collect the data via phone survey: Self‐Care of Heart Failure Index, Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Results: The sample consisted of 78 male and 22 female persons with heart failure. The effect of mindfulness was statistically significant only on self‐care symptom perception, and not significant on other aspects of self‐care. Impulsivity moderated only the effect of mindfulness on self‐care symptom perception. Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between mindfulness and impulsivity (r = −.532, p <.01). Conclusion: Mindfulness is likely to improve at least one aspect of self‐care (self‐care symptom perception) and reduce impulsivity among heart failure persons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Suicide in adolescents constitutes a public health problem throughout the world. The objective of this study was to identify the prevalence of suicidal behaviour in a public middle school in Mexico and to implement appropriate educational interventions in the school and community contexts. Our work took place from September 2017 to July 2018. We conducted a quasi‐experimental, mixed‐methodology study with 12‐year‐old students in first year of middle school (n = 29), using an educational intervention approach within the frame of the Life Skills Education methodology. We included family members and academic staff in the study with the view of sensitising them to suicidal behaviour. At the community level, we worked with the adolescent and adult populations to form 'gatekeepers' (guardians). We administered a questionnaire on psychosocial indicators of depression and suicide risk to 383 students in their first‐to‐third years of middle school. Other questionnaires were applied, and life skills focus groups (FGs) were organised with the educational intervention participants. The questionnaires addressed suicidal behaviour in adolescents, alcohol consumption, life skills and prosociality. Prevalence of attempted suicide cases came to 14.1% (95 CI% 10.7–17.9), the average age of those who reported having hurt themselves with the purpose of taking their lives was 12.9 years, 75% of those who had attempted suicide were female and 64.8% had consumed alcohol. The educational intervention with students achieved a statistically significant increase in the life skills of participants, specifically as regards self‐awareness and overall scores. The family members in the FGs developed greater awareness of suicidal behaviour, and the adolescents engaged at the community level significantly broadened (p <.05) their knowledge of depression. In developing countries such as Mexico, it is essential not only to increase the number of interventions for preventing suicidal behaviour in adolescents, but also to improve instruments for measuring the extent of the problem. Aim: To explore the mobilization of nurses/midwives in a designated hospital group in Ireland during a global pandemic. Background: The recent global pandemic has resulted in the large‐scale worldwide mobilization of registered nurses and midwives working in the acute care sector. There is a dearth of literature reporting the mobilization of this professional workforce. Method: Mixed‐methods design using an electronic survey and facilitated discussion across one Irish hospital group. Results: Eight of 11 hospitals responded to the survey. There was a 2% vacancy rate prior to the pandemic. Mobilization included reconfiguration of clinical areas and redeployment of 9% of the nursing/midwifery workforce within 2 weeks of the pandemic. A total of 11% (n = 343) of nurses/midwives were redeployed in 3 months. Nurses/midwives required re‐skilling in infection prevention control, enhancement of critical care skills and documentation. Conclusions: Three key areas were identified to enable the nursing workforce readiness. These are referred to as the three 'R's': Reconfiguration of specific resources, Redeployment of nurses to dedicated specialist areas and Re‐skilling of nurses to safely care for the patients during the pandemic. The efficacy of crisis planning in mental health services is contested. As recovery and self‐management are core to Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services and the Care Programme Approach (CPA), the views of EIP practitioners of the most useful aspects of crisis planning can inform this vital aspect of practice. We conducted a mixed methods study using a national cross‐sectional survey (n = 70) and semi‐structured interviews (n = 12) with EIP practitioners in England in 2019. Data were analysed using non‐parametric tests and thematic analysis. A Joint Crisis Plan (JCP) template was used as a benchmark to judge current practice by (Sutherby et al., 1999; Henderson et al., 2004; Thornicroft et al., 2013). The most useful crisis plan themes identified by practitioners included early warning signs, triggers and helpful treatments, although not all elements were considered useful. Additionally, the interviews identified that collaboration with clients, carers and other services; personalisation; and self‐management were all considered important in effective crisis planning. The practitioners also identified barriers to effective crisis planning, such as the electronic records system, lack of time and lack of available service provision. The research highlighted the important aspects of EIP and was significant in impacting the service and wider EIP network further. While crisis planning is a significant part of EIP, it does not appear to be consistently applied in practice. Fully implementing collaborative crisis planning in EIP services may require changes to policy, practice and local systems to ensure that crisis planning is as effective as possible. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the obsessive behaviors and coping behaviors of nursing students during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Design and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between October 4 and October 17, 2020. Findings: In this study, it was found that nursing students had a mean total COVID‐19 Obsessive Compulsive Scale score of 3.88 ± 3.02 and a mean total Ways of Coping Inventory (WCI) score of 47.05 ± 11.68. When the subscales of the WCI were examined, mean scores were found to be 13.64 ± 4.85 for the self‐confident approach, 8.91 ± 3.35 for the optimistic approach, 7.25 ± 2.24 for the seeking social support approach, 10.97 ± 4.43 for the helpless approach, and 6.24 ± 3.20 for the submissive approach. Practice Implications: Nursing students have low levels of obsession with COVID‐19 and moderate levels of coping behaviors. For this reason, it is very important to recognize the psychological symptoms of today's nursing students—the health workforce of the future—and to determine priorities for their solution. Aim: The present study aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses. Methods: Three phases were conducted: Phase I involved a qualitative research to explore and establish the potential items pool; Phase II reduced the items using the item analysis with a sample of 73 nurses. Phase III evaluated the psychometric properties of the final scale. Data from 814 valid questionnaires were analysed using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Five factors, including 'Interpersonal integration', 'Profession‐related positive emotion', 'Competence for nursing work', and 'Active coping strategies', 'Balance between work and life', accounted for 68.87% of total variance. Cronbach's α was 0.891. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable model fitness. Conclusions: The Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses has good psychometric properties. It can be used to measure the transition status conveniently and effectively. Implications for Nursing Management: The assessment result with the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses can provide information about the transition status of new nurses, thereby providing reference to guide the specific nursing interventions to smooth the transition process. Children from food insecure households are more likely to have substandard food and nutritional intakes, and experience developmental delays, behaviour issues and increased use of health services. In Australia, screening for household food insecurity (HFI) within health services is not undertaken routinely, limiting opportunities to optimise nutrition and healthcare. This research aimed to (a) identify the prevalence, potential determinants and outcomes of HFI among paediatric outpatients in two Queensland hospitals; and (b) identify questions suitable for screening households at risk of HFI. A cross‐sectional survey collected data from caregivers of children attending paediatric appointments at two hospitals in Brisbane, Australia (n = 148). Sociodemographic, health and household‐related characteristics were collected, and food security status was assessed using four HFI measures. Chi‐square, independent t‐tests, ANOVA and logistic regression explored associations between HFI and health‐related characteristics. A potential HFI screener was identified based on the most frequently endorsed questions from any HFI measure, and its validity was assessed through calculation of sensitivity and specificity. Prevalence of HFI was 41%, with 16% experiencing very low food security. Households with a child of 'fair/poor' health had 5.59 times greater odds of being food insecure than being food secure, compared to households with a child of 'excellent/good' health (aOR 5.59, 95% CI: 1.3–23.5). HFI was also positively associated with household chaos (p =.006). A combination of two questions was identified as a possible screening tool, with a sensitivity of 96% and a specificity of 90%. This study demonstrated HFI may be highly prevalent in a paediatric outpatient population, which may result in difficulties in being able to follow nutrition prescriptions. A highly sensitive and specific two‐question screening tool was identified and may assist practitioners in paediatric healthcare settings in identifying clients who are at risk of HFI. Aim: To determine the relationships among demographics, self‐assessed empowerment qualities and performances of empowered nurses. Background: Nursing empowerment plays a pivotal role in improving nurses' performances, work productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness. There is a dearth in the literature that focuses on their relationships. Methods: Using a descriptive correlational design, 201 bedside nurses employed in the National Capital Region, Philippines, were recruited via purposive sampling. With ethical considerations, nurses were asked to fill‐up an online questionnaire that includes demographics, Qualities of an Empowered Nurse Scale and Performances of an Empowered Nurse Scale. Results: Filipino nurses are moderately empowered both in their qualities and in their performances. Pearson's correlation revealed that demographics, qualities and performances have statistically significant relationships. Multiple regression analysis identified age as a predictor of empowerment qualities, and age, employment status and qualities as predictors of empowerment performances. Conclusion: Results indicated that the nurse's level of empowerment increases as the nurse grows older, becomes tenured at work and embodies higher empowerment qualities and performances. Implication for Nursing Management: Nurse managers must consider nurse's demographics, qualities and performances in creating an empowering work environment for their staff. Importance: Manipulatives are hands‐on or virtual displays that facilitate teaching and learning and are interactive and engaging to students during the learning activity. Manipulatives have been shown to be effective teaching tools for a wide range of students. Objective: This study examined whether the use of manipulatives in nursing education improved Satisfaction, Learning/Knowledge Retention, Behavior/Transfer of Learning, and Intentions to Change Practice. Underpinning theoretical frameworks included Kirkpatrick's Four Levels of Evaluation Model and Theory of Planned Behavior. Design, Setting, and Participants: A quasi‐experimental design comparing lecture to manipulative training was used with a sample of nursing interns and students. The study manipulative was a hands‐on tool that demonstrated physiologic changes that occur with fluid imbalances. Data were collected using three questionnaires (1) before training, which included demographics and questions on participants' level of comfort with fluid imbalances, (2) immediately following training, which evaluated Satisfaction, Learning, Behavior, and Intentions, and (3) 6–8 weeks after training, which evaluated Learning, Behavior, and Intentions. Measures: Independent sample t‐test, Mann–Whitney U test, and repeated‐measure analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. Conclusion: Findings revealed significant differences in Intentions to change practice (p = 0.014), indicating the manipulative had a greater potential effect on clinical practice compared to the lecture. Objective: Existing research highlights the importance of nurses' knowledge and attitudes towards the provision of artificial nutrition and hydration (ANH) for patients with advanced cancer; however, the perspectives of Arabic and Islamic nurses have not yet been investigated. Therefore, we aimed to examine Jordanian nurses' knowledge, attitudes and perceived benefits in providing ANH for patients with advanced cancer. Method: A descriptive cross‐sectional design was employed. Results: Participants comprised 183 nurses (93.5% response rate). Around 80% received no training on ANH. Nurses had poor knowledge regarding ANH, with a mean score of 5.12 (SD=2.27) out of 15. Overall, nurses had positive attitudes towards ANH care (M = 3.09, SD = 0.29); however, the subscale analysis showed that nurses held inconspicuous beliefs about ANH benefits (M = 2.67, SD = 0.71) and strongly believed that ANH places a high burden on patients (M = 3.50, SD = 0.69). Nurses from government hospitals showed significantly higher ANH knowledge, as well as positive beliefs regarding ANH benefits, compared to less educated nurses. Conclusion: Jordanian nurses have limited knowledge of ANH. Their positive attitude regarding ANH for terminally ill patients could be driven by cultural norms and beliefs, rather than education. Purpose: Validate the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and evaluate factors associated with emotion regulation among Lebanese adults. Methods: A proportionate random sample of 811 participants was chosen from all Lebanese governorates in this cross‐sectional study. Findings: The principal component analysis of the ERQ items yielded two factors (αCronbach = 0.764 and 0.658 for the Cognitive Reappraisal and Expressive Suppression facets, respectively). Higher secure attachment style was linked to higher cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. Higher anxious attachment style and anxiety were associated with lower cognitive reappraisal. Practical Implications: The Arabic version of the ERQ is a suitable tool for the assessment of emotion regulation tendencies in clinical practice and research. Objective: To create a Lebanese Depression Scale (LDS) and evaluate its performance on a group of Lebanese individuals. Methods: This cross‐sectional analysis enrolled 997 residents (January‐December 2018). Results: The elements in the Lebanese Depression Scale‐19 items (LDS‐19) scale converged over a combination of four factors (αCronbach =.864). The correlation was positive between the LDS‐19 and both the Hamilton Anxiety Scale score (r =.637; P <.001) and Lebanese Anxiety Scale score (r =.694; P <.001). According to the receiver‐operating characteristics curve, the optimal score for the LDS‐19 scale, which was a cutoff between healthy controls and depressive patients, was 18.50 (80.3% and 75.8%, respectively); the scale's positive predictive value was 31.0%, while the negative predictive value was 96.5%. Aim: To investigate Chinese nurses' views and experiences in relation to quality improvement implementation, as well as to determine the impact of contextual factors on nursing quality improvement initiatives. Background: Nurses play a major role in carrying out quality improvement initiatives. Contextual factors influence the implementation and success of quality improvement initiatives. Studies that investigated the impact of contextual factors on Chinese nurses' practice in quality improvement remain limited. Methods: A sequential explanatory mixed‐methods design was used for this study. A quantitative cross‐sectional survey was used to assess the context of quality improvement initiatives. Simple random sampling was used to recruit quality improvement teams. The sample included 356 nurses from tertiary teaching hospitals; 291 (81.7%) of them completed questionnaires. Nursing managers and nurses (n = 18) were purposively selected to participate in semi‐structured interviews; their experiences and perceptions regarding the contextual factors of quality improvement initiatives were obtained. Results: In the quantitative phase, the "microsystem" (mean=5.24) and "QI team" (mean = 4.97) contexts were reported as supportive contexts. The organizational context was weak, with a mean score of 3.92. In the qualitative phase, three themes related to the contextual challenges emerged: (1) nurses' attitudes and satisfaction, (2) team efficacy, and (3) organizational infrastructure and culture. Conclusions: Efforts to elevate organizational culture and reward systems are needed in Chinese hospitals. Further education aimed at increasing skills and knowledge should be provided, to ensure effective quality improvement implementation. Implications for Nursing Management: During quality improvement initiatives, management tasks should focus on increasing nurses' satisfaction, solving skill and knowledge deficits, and clarifying nurses' roles in relation to quality improvement. Aim: To investigate the relationship between job crafting and work engagement among hospital nurses. Background: Job crafting is a relatively advanced job redesign concept, and few studies have investigated it among nurses. Methods: This is a cross‐sectional study. A total of 636 nurses were recruited from one hospital in Saudi Arabia. Of them, 608 (95.6%) completed self‐administered, online questionnaires. The questionnaire assessed participants' socio‐demographic data, job crafting and work engagement. Structured equation modelling (SEM) was used to examine the association between job crafting and work engagement. Results: Data from 549 nurses were analysed. Most of the participants (85.1%) were females, and their mean scores of job crafting and work engagement were 3.54 ± 0.5 and 4.77 ± 1.1, respectively. The SEM revealed that job crafting accounted for 57% of the variance of work engagement. Conclusions: Job crafting is a significant determinant of nurses' work engagement. Implications for nursing management: Supporting staff nurses to employ job crafting behaviours would positively improve their work engagement. Death doulas (DD) are working with people at the end of life in varied roles with more clarity needed around their role and place within the health and social care systems. The aim of this work is to explore the DD role in end‐of‐life care from the perspective of DDs. A sub‐group of 20 DDs from a larger quantitative survey participated in semi‐structured telephone Skype or Zoom interviews. Interview data were analysed using thematic analysis. Seven themes emerged from the qualitative analysis: what a DD offers, what a DD does, challenges and barriers, occupational preferences, family support, contract of service/fee and regulation. There is a general perception that healthcare professionals (HCP) do not understand what it is that DDs do; thus, the current study has helped to demystify the DD role and potentially reduce suspicion. The lack of a DD business model sees inconsistencies in what services each DD offers and what patients and families can expect. End of life is complex and confusing for patients and families and there is a need to further explore the DD role and how it can work when there are many inconsistencies in working practice. More research is required to look at the interplay among DDs, HCPs and palliative care volunteers in addressing the gaps in care provision and how these relationships might be more seamlessly managed. Despite the importance of carers supporting the lives of people with mental illness, there are limited studies investigating the well‐being and needs of Malay carers in multicultural Singapore. The Malays consist of 13.4% of Singapore's population. A mixed methods qualitative dominant research approach was used to explore the well‐being and needs of Malay carers in a voluntary welfare organisation. The Kessler‐10, Friendship Scale and Carers' and Users' Expectations of Services—Carer version were used to assess the needs and well‐being of 17 Malay carers. Findings show that Malay carers experienced poor well‐being and had numerous unmet needs. Four main themes were found: (a) Concerns related to relatives with mental illness, (b) Mental health practices related to carers, (c) Holistic support for carers and (d) Preference for greater spiritual support in mental health. Recovery‐oriented mental health practice implications are discussed. Spirituality of Malay carers needs to be given greater consideration in recovery‐oriented mental health services. Purpose: The effectiveness of an Internet‐based guided self‐help cognitive‐behavioral therapy (I‐GSH‐CBT) was assessed in alleviating childbirth fear (CBF), depression, anxiety, and stress of pregnant women during the first delivery. Design and Methods: In a quasi‐experimental study, pregnant women in the intervention group used the I‐GSH‐CBT program during pregnancy. The Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire, and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale 42‐item (DASS‐42) questionnaires were used to collect the psychometric data. Findings: Implementing the I‐GSH‐CBT significantly reduced CBF, DASS‐42 scores, and cesarean section preference. Aims: To develop and validate a comprehensive tool based on those established in the field capable of reflecting the broader concept of Unfinished Nursing Care. Background: Different tools have been established in the field of Missed Care, Rationing Care and Tasks Left Undone. However, despite them sharing similar items and all referring to the common concept of Unfinished Nursing Care, no attempts to collapse them in a single tool capable of reflecting current nursing practice, and its increased complexity, have been attempted to date. Methods: A development and validation study was performed in 2017. After developing the instrument starting from the MISSCARE Survey and critically reviewing the other tools available in the field, the Unfinished Nursing Care Survey (UNCS) was subjected to validation. A total of 1977 nurses from 13 acute Italian hospitals were recruited. Acceptability, construct validity (Mokken Scaling, Explorative and Confirmative Factor Analysis), internal consistency, hypothesis testing and criterion validity were assessed according to the COnsensus‐based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments guideline. Results: 1,400 (70.8%) nurses participated. The UNCS is composed of part A (=elements of unfinished care) and part B (=reasons for unfinished care) with 21 and 18 items, respectively. The UNCS has showed high acceptability (>90%). Part A has reported a strong scalability (H =.52), thus suggesting a hierarchical structure among the items. The six factors in part B explained a total variance of 64.3% (internal consistency =.806) as confirmed by the Confirmative Factor Analysis. Conclusions: The comprehensive nature of the UNCS can contribute to the establishment of a common reference measure of the phenomenon worldwide although its psychometric properties require future investigation in different cultural contexts, languages and clinical settings. Oldest‐old individuals are a growing segment of the population that faces several challenges in terms of care demands. Informal caregivers experience more or less challenges, namely depending on the support they can access. The present study explores the unmet needs of a sample of informal caregivers of community‐dwelling older adults aged 80+ and analyses the association of such needs with sociodemographic information, care‐giving context (e.g., length of care),and health characteristics of the caregivers and care receivers (e.g., cognitive status and functionality). We recruited 175 care‐giving dyads from the North of Portugal. Descriptive statistics summarised the sample's characteristics. Informal caregivers were mainly women with a mean age of 60.6 years (SD = 9.8). Care receivers' mean age was 88.7 years (SD = 5.6) and were functionally dependent (9.3 points [SD = 7.0] and 27.0 points [SD = 3.5] for Basic and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, respectively). A thematic analysis of an open‐ended question on unmet needs was performed, revealing the presence of unmet needs. The most relevant ones (financial support, caregiver support, primary care/medical specialities, and labour regulation) were further analysed, concerning the care‐giving dyad's using Independent Student's t test or Mann–Whitney U Tests, and Chi‐squared test or Fisher's Exact test depending on the variable. The most frequent unmet needs were associated with the caregiver's age, care receivers' kinship, number of care‐giving hours, the caregiver's gender, professional status, the caregiver strain and medicines intake. Findings suggest the need for establishing policies that ensure adequate sustainability of the provision of informal care that takes into account the needs of care‐giving dyads in the planning process. Since the late 20th century, identifying the multidimensional nature of HIV/AIDS and its negative effects on mental health and quality of life (QOL) in patients has prompted specialists to identify and control the psychological and behavioural variables resulting from this disorder. Thus, the current study aimed to assessing the relationship between life satisfaction (LS) and QOL among people living with HIV/AIDS in Kermanshah. This descriptive‐correlation study was conducted on 364 HIV/AIDS patients referred to the Voluntary Counseling and Testing Center (VCT) in Kermanshah in 2016–2017, selected by convenience sampling method. Data gathering tools included Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), World Health Organization Quality of Life‐HIV Brief (WHOQOL‐HIV BREF) questionnaire and demographic checklist. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient varied from 0.70 to 0.83 for the five subscales of WHOQOL‐HIV BREF questionnaire. The result showed that out of 364 patients, 38.19% were women. There was a positive correlation between LS and QOL in patients with HIV/AIDS in Kermanshah (p <.001), and LS was associated with the QOL. Furthermore, the results indicated that LS and QOL in patients with HIV/AIDS were at low levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Health care professionals, particularly nurses, are considered a vulnerable group to experience acute stress disorder (ASD) and subsequent psychological distress amid COVID‐19 pandemic. This study aims to establish the prevalence of acute stress disorder and predictors of psychological distress among Jordanian nurses. Methods: A quantitative, cross‐sectional, descriptive and comparative design was used. Data were collected using a Web‐based survey. A total of 448 Jordanian nurses (73% females) completed and returned the study questionnaire. Results: The majority of nurses (64%) are experiencing ASD due to the COVID‐19 pandemic and thus are at risk for PTSD predisposition. More than one‐third of nurses (41%) are also suffering significant psychological distress. Among our sample, age, ASD and coping self‐efficacy significantly predicted psychological distress. More specifically, younger nurses are more prone to experience psychological distress than older ones. While higher scores on ASD showed more resultant psychological distress, coping self‐efficacy was a protective factor. Conclusion: Given that individuals who suffer from ASD are predisposed to PTSD, follow‐up with nurses to screen for PTSD and referral to appropriate psychological services is pivotal. Coping self‐efficacy is found to ameliorate the effect of psychological distress on nurses' traumatic experience. Such findings warrant intensive efforts from health care institutions to provide psychosocial support services for nurses and ongoing efforts to screen them for traumatic and psychological distress symptoms. Implications for Nursing Management: Nursing leaders and managers are in the forefront of responding to the unique needs of their workforces during the COVID‐19 crisis. They need to implement stress‐reduction strategies for nurses through providing consecutive rest days, rotating allocations of complex patients, arranging support services and being accessible to staff. They also need to ensure nurses' personal safety through securing and providing personal safety measures and undertake briefings to ensure their staff's physical and mental well‐being, as well as providing referrals to appropriate psychological services. Occupational stress is a major problem for healthcare providers, with some professionals experiencing higher numbers of stressful situations than others. Although it is difficult to eliminate stress in professionals' daily lives, providing social support can lower psychological distress symptoms. This study aims to investigate the relationship between occupational stress and social support, and the effects of social support on psychological distress symptoms of healthcare professionals. A cross‐sectional descriptive design was utilized. Self‐administered questionnaires were completed by a convenience sample of 211 participants (physicians, nurses, and pharmacists) from a Jordanian hospital. Bivariate analyses were used to examine the relationships between the study variables. Multiple regression analyses were used to determine if occupational stress, demographic characteristics, and social support predict depression, anxiety, and stress. Results showed that healthcare professionals with more social support showed less depression than those with a lower score of social support. Females had higher scores of depression and anxiety than males. Pharmacists had significantly higher occupational stress than both nurses and physicians. Occupational stress negatively influences healthcare professionals' mental health. To improve the productivity and psychological wellbeing of healthcare professionals, occupational stress should be diminished by implementing effective management approaches to facilitate social support for healthcare professionals. Objective. This study was aimed to assess the patient's knowledge and awareness about hypertension and adherence to antihypertensive medication among hypertensive patients. Methods. The descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in three medical clinics of Colombo South Teaching hospital, Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, from April 2019 to September 2019. Total of 384 hypertensive patients were recruited by systematic randomized controlled sampling and interviewed with validated questionnaires to assess their knowledge about hypertension and adherence to antihypertensive medication. Data were analyzed using SPSS (version 21) analytical package, and the chi-squared test was performed. Results. The total sample consisted of 384 hypertensive patients with a mean age of 59.32 (±12.34SD). This included 180 (46.9%) males and 204 (53.1%) females. The male : female ratio was approximately 9 : 10. Most of patients were with primary and ordinary educational status (65.9%), normal body mass index (54.9%), mild elevation of LDL cholesterol (76.3%), and coexistent ischemic heart disease (39.6%). The knowledge about hypertension among majority of patients was reasonable. However, they were unaware about normal values of blood pressure (69%, 95% of CI 1.92–2.09) and diagnostic values of hypertension (90.1%, 95% of CI 2.26–2.40). Moreover, they were unaware of their blood pressure values at time of diagnosis (75.3%, 95% of CI 2.09–2.25), at recent clinic visit (71.3%, 95% of CI 2.0-2.17), and target level (81.8%, 95% of CI 2.25-2.41). Most patients had adequate knowledge about the risk factors and complications of hypertension and were aware of their target organ damage (70.3%). Most patients believed that medication alone is not sufficient to control blood pressure (41.7%, 95% of CI 1.40-1.51) and adequate control of their blood pressure reduces complications (68.2%, 95% of CI 1.37-1.51). Most of the patients (71.8%) had reasonable good drug compliance. The forgetfulness was commonly attributed for nonadherence (69%, 95% of CI 1.26-1.36). Conclusions. The knowledge about hypertension among majority of patients was reasonable. But, they were unaware about their disease status and their diagnosis, target, and recent blood pressure values. Most of patients had adequate knowledge about the risk factors and complications of hypertension. However, they were unaware about their target organ damage due to hypertension. The drug compliance was reasonable among them. The forgetfulness was common reason for nonadherence. Therefore, healthcare professionals should implement individualized educational programmes to increase the awareness of disease status, appropriate blood pressure levels, and adherence of treatment to improve the outcome of patients. Importance. Nonsanctioned occupations are those deemed socially unacceptable, unhealthy, or illegal, yet they hold meaning for individuals. A gap in occupational therapy evaluation and intervention to address a broader perspective on occupations prompted the adaptation of the Activity Card Sort tool to explore participation in nonsanctioned occupations. Methods. Develop a new version of the Activity Card Sort-Advancing Inclusive Participation to include occupations experienced by the homeless population, including nonsanctioned occupations. This study occurred in two phases: (1) tool development (item selection, content expert review, line development drawing, and assessment of content validity) and (2) tool use to determine face validity. Participants were selected through a convenience sample at a local homeless shelter and academic institution. Participants experiencing homelessness (phase 1: N = 13 , phase 2: N = 10) were required to be seeking services at the homeless shelter, while nonhomeless participants (phase 2: N = 30) worked full-time, resided with a significant other, and had personal transportation. Results. An assessment of 76 occupations, corresponding line drawings, and follow-up questions was created. An initial construct validity study demonstrated differences between occupational participation of those who are homeless and nonhomeless in the areas of social engagement, nonsanctioned occupations, work and education, and home management. Both groups reported previous, current, or desired engagement in the occupations identified in the assessment. Conclusions and relevance. The purpose of this study was to create an inclusive assessment for use in the homeless population and complete a construct validity study of the assessment tool. Although the results indicated some differences in the frequency with which occupations were performed, the results demonstrated that all individuals participate in occupations that many not contribute to their health and wellness. This initial work supports the future development of a tool that is inclusive of all occupations to obtain a holistic picture of an individual's participation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Family support is an important protective factor for pregnant women with a foetal abnormality and can prevent adverse psychological outcomes in this population. This study aimed to explore the importance and influencing factors of family support for pregnant women with foetal abnormalities requiring pregnancy termination and then determine the correlation between family support and women's post‐traumatic stress symptoms. A mixed methods study was conducted from March 2016 to September 2017. In all, 214 participants were surveyed using self‐reported questionnaires including the demographic, family and obstetric information questionnaire, the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth Affection and Resolve Index and the Impact of Event Scale‐Revised to collect quantitative data. Semi‐structured in‐depth interviews with 28 participants were conducted to collect qualitative data. Of the pregnant women with foetal abnormalities, 35% had obstacles in family function such that family support was low. The Impact of Event Scale‐Revised score was negatively associated with total score on the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth Affection and Resolve Index as well as the score for each item on this index. In terms of family support, the demographic, family and obstetric variables hierarchically entered into the regression models significantly explained 20.0%, 26.5% and 2.6% of variation, respectively. In addition, three key themes were identified based on qualitative analyses: intensified instrumental support, inadequate emotional support and insufficient informational support. The findings showed that family support plays a protective role in preventing post‐traumatic stress symptoms following termination of pregnancy. At present, family support still needs to be improved, especially in emotional support and informational support.
