The article focuses on the issues related to Department for Education and Skills (DfES). The contrast between the education system in Great Britain and Wales has started to widen since the creation of the Welsh Assembly Government. The structural differences will not only increase significantly but amount to a schism with the publication of the White Paper in great Britain. It seemed that the whole of Wales believes that the DfES has got it wrong and educationalists in Wales are breathing a collective sigh of relief.

The article discusses controversy over the educational examination board Edexcel's plans to translate the written examinations (exams) of Welsh-speaking students taking exams in Wales into the English language in order to have English-speaking examiners grade them.
