Subject motion is a long-standing problem of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can seriously deteriorate the image quality. Various prospective and retrospective methods have been proposed for MRI motion correction, among which deep learning approaches have achieved state-of-the-art motion correction performance. This survey paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of deep learning-based MRI motion correction methods. Neural networks used for motion artifacts reduction and motion estimation in the image domain or frequency domain are detailed. Furthermore, besides motion-corrected MRI reconstruction, how estimated motion is applied in other downstream tasks is briefly introduced, aiming to strengthen the interaction between different research areas. Purpose: The quality of ultrasound images is degraded by speckle and Gaussian noises. This study aims to develop a deep-learning (DL)-based filter for ultrasound image denoising., Methods: A novel DL-based filter using adaptive residual (AdaRes) learning was proposed. Five image quality metrics (IQMs) and 27 radiomics features were used to evaluate denoising results. The effect of our proposed filter, AdaRes, on four pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) classification models and three radiologists was assessed., Results: AdaRes filter was tested on both natural and ultrasound image databases. IQMs results indicate that AdaRes could remove noises in three different noise levels with the highest performances. In addition, a radiomics study proved that AdaRes did not distort tissue textures and it could preserve most radiomics features. AdaRes could also improve the performance classification using CNNs in different settings. Finally, AdaRes also improved the mean overall performance (AUC) of three radiologists from 0.494 to 0.702 in the classification of benign and malignant lesions., Conclusions: AdaRes filtered out noises on ultrasound images more effectively and can be used as an auxiliary preprocessing step in computer-aided diagnosis systems. This review article focuses on the applications of deep learning with neural networks and multimodal neural networks in the orthopaedic domain. By providing practical examples of how artificial intelligence (AI) is being applied successfully in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the realm of imaging data sets and the integration of clinical data, this study aims to provide orthopaedic surgeons with the necessary tools to not only evaluate existing literature but also to consider AI's potential in their own clinical or research pursuits. We first review standard deep neural networks which can analyze numerical clinical variables, then describe convolutional neural networks which can analyze image data, and then introduce multimodal AI models which analyze various types of different data. Then, we contrast these deep learning techniques with related but more limited techniques such as radiomics, describe how to interpret deep learning studies, and how to initiate such studies at your institution. Ultimately, by empowering orthopaedic surgeons with the knowledge and know-how of deep learning, this review aspires to facilitate the translation of research into clinical practice, thereby enhancing the efficacy and precision of real-world orthopaedic care for patients., (Copyright © 2024 by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.)

The research groups in computer vision, graphics, and machine learning have dedicated a substantial amount of attention to the areas of 3D object reconstruction, augmentation, and registration. Deep learning is the predominant method used in artificial intelligence for addressing computer vision challenges. However, deep learning on three-dimensional data presents distinct obstacles and is now in its nascent phase. There have been significant advancements in deep learning specifically for three-dimensional data, offering a range of ways to address these issues. This study offers a comprehensive examination of the latest advancements in deep learning methodologies. We examine many benchmark models for the tasks of 3D object registration, augmentation, and reconstruction. We thoroughly analyse their architectures, advantages, and constraints. The 2023 edition of the AIxIA Conference, held in Rome, brought together a large number of researchers and practitioners to discuss the most recent and important advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The conference featured 19 workshops, organized by 77 experts, attracting 248 submissions and resulting in 16 proceedings. This special issue presents extended versions of selected papers initially showcased at these workshops. Each paper underwent rigorous review and represents a diverse array of topics, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the Italian AI community. Objective: Pneumothorax is an acute thoracic disease caused by abnormal air collection between the lungs and chest wall. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI), especially deep learning (DL), has been increasingly employed for automating the diagnostic process of pneumothorax. To address the opaqueness often associated with DL models, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) methods have been introduced to outline regions related to pneumothorax. However, these explanations sometimes diverge from actual lesion areas, highlighting the need for further improvement., Method: We propose a template-guided approach to incorporate the clinical knowledge of pneumothorax into model explanations generated by XAI methods, thereby enhancing the quality of the explanations. Utilizing one lesion delineation created by radiologists, our approach first generates a template that represents potential areas of pneumothorax occurrence. This template is then superimposed on model explanations to filter out extraneous explanations that fall outside the template's boundaries. To validate its efficacy, we carried out a comparative analysis of three XAI methods (Saliency Map, Grad-CAM, and Integrated Gradients) with and without our template guidance when explaining two DL models (VGG-19 and ResNet-50) in two real-world datasets (SIIM-ACR and ChestX-Det)., Results: The proposed approach consistently improved baseline XAI methods across twelve benchmark scenarios built on three XAI methods, two DL models, and two datasets. The average incremental percentages, calculated by the performance improvements over the baseline performance, were 97.8% in Intersection over Union (IoU) and 94.1% in Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) when comparing model explanations and ground-truth lesion areas. We further visualized baseline and template-guided model explanations on radiographs to showcase the performance of our approach., Conclusions: In the context of pneumothorax diagnoses, we proposed a template-guided approach for improving model explanations. Our approach not only aligns model explanations more closely with clinical insights but also exhibits extensibility to other thoracic diseases. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to preserve and promote cultural heritage has experienced significant growth in recent years. Among the various areas of cultural heritage, numismatics have emerged as a particularly promising field where we can develop AI solutions. Numismatics refers to the study of coins, tokens, paper money, and medals, which play a critical role in understanding human history and culture. However, there are still limited resources available to help researchers and collectors in the identification of coins. This is due to the vast number of coins in circulation, which presents a significant challenge in developing smart tools for classification tasks. This paper aims to provide a contribution to this setting. In particular, we start by creating a new dataset called EURO-Coin, which consists of images showing the side of coins with reliefs and is designed to facilitate the training and testing of AI models for euro coin classification. Then, we propose two approaches that leverage Convolutional Neural Networks and self-attention layers to classify the country and value of the coins. In our experiments, we obtain an accuracy of 86.9% for country classification and an accuracy of 96.4% for value classification. The emergence of cultured meat presents the potential for personalized food additive manufacturing, offering a solution to address future food resource scarcity. Processing raw materials and products in synthetic food products poses challenges in identifying hazards, impacting the entire industrial chain during the industry's further evolution. It is crucial to examine the correlation of biological information at different levels and to reveal the temporal dynamics jointly. All industries are trying to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) based on their existing big data which is available in so called tabular form, where each record is composed of a number of heterogeneous continuous and categorical columns also known as features. Deep Learning (DL) has constituted a major breakthrough for AI in fields related to human skills like natural language processing, but its applicability to tabular data has been more challenging. More classical Machine Learning (ML) models like tree-based ensemble ones usually perform better. This paper presents a novel DL model using Graph Neural Network (GNN) more specifically Interaction Network (IN), for contextual embedding and modeling interactions among tabular features. In the production of paper cups in industrial factories, it is tried to print high quality cups with less waste loss with the help of sensors and heating resistances mounted on the paper cup machine. In this study, a system that detects faulty products based on image processing and removes it by controlling the machine with servo motors, asynchronous motors and programmable logic controller (PLC) is designed. For fault product detection, classification has been performed using real-time Haarcascade algorithm and You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm which is a deep learning methods, and real-time object detection has been carried out using the OpenCv library. With this study, an effective faulty product detection and removing hardware system was realized by adapting artificial intelligence algorithms to a machine used in industry. Based on the results, a whole system can be applied to systems that involve removing a faulty product from a band in any production, packaging etc. facility is proposed. A hardware consisting of servo motors, asynchronous motors and PLC was designed to separate faulty cups from the existing paper cup production machine in this study. Then, a data set composed of 1068 images was created with images taken from the camera for faulty and faultless paper cups. Using this dataset, the effect of different deep learning methods on performance in the real-time system has been examined and successful results have been obtained. An increasingly strong connection between artificial intelligence and medicine has enabled the development of predictive models capable of supporting physicians' decision-making. Artificial intelligence encompasses much more than machine learning, which nevertheless is its most cited and used sub-branch in the last decade. Since most clinical problems can be modeled through machine learning classifiers, it is essential to discuss their main elements. This review aims to give primary educational insights on the most accessible and widely employed classifiers in radiology field, distinguishing between "shallow" learning (i.e., traditional machine learning) algorithms, including support vector machines, random forest and XGBoost, and "deep" learning architectures including convolutional neural networks and vision transformers. In addition, the paper outlines the key steps for classifiers training and highlights the differences between the most common algorithms and architectures. Although the choice of an algorithm depends on the task and dataset dealing with, general guidelines for classifier selection are proposed in relation to task analysis, dataset size, explainability requirements, and available computing resources. Considering the enormous interest in these innovative models and architectures, the problem of machine learning algorithms interpretability is finally discussed, providing a future perspective on trustworthy artificial intelligence.Relevance statement The growing synergy between artificial intelligence and medicine fosters predictive models aiding physicians. Background: Drug-drug interactions (DDI) are prevalent in combination therapy, necessitating the importance of identifying and predicting potential DDI. While various artificial intelligence methods can predict and identify potential DDI, they often overlook the sequence information of drug molecules and fail to comprehensively consider the contribution of molecular substructures to DDI., Results: In this paper, we proposed a novel model for DDI prediction based on sequence and substructure features (SSF-DDI) to address these issues. Our model integrates drug sequence features and structural features from the drug molecule graph, providing enhanced information for DDI prediction and enabling a more comprehensive and accurate representation of drug molecules., Conclusion: The results of experiments and case studies have demonstrated that SSF-DDI significantly outperforms state-of-the-art DDI prediction models across multiple real datasets and settings. The analysis includes the distribution of studies by year, the number of studies and citation rankings in journals, and the identification of leading countries, institutions, and authors in the field of AI research. Additionally, we investigate the distribution of studies by Web of Science categories, authors, affiliations, publication years, countries/regions, publishers, research areas, and citations per year. Key findings indicate a continued growth of interest in topics such as deep learning, machine learning, and security in AI over the past few years. We also identify leading countries and institutions active in researching this area. Awareness of data security is essential for the responsible application of AI technologies. Robust security frameworks are important to mitigate risks associated with AI integration into critical infrastructure such as healthcare and finance. Ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data managed by AI systems is not only a technical challenge but also a societal necessity, demanding interdisciplinary collaboration and policy development. Significant Wave Height (SWH) is crucial in many aspect of ocean engineering. The accurate prediction of SWH has therefore been of immense practical value. Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) time series prediction methods have been widely used for single-point short-term SWH time-series forecasting, resulting in many AI-based models claiming to achieve good results. However, the extent to which these complex AI models can outperform traditional methods has largely been overlooked. This study compared five different models - AutoRegressive (AR), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and WaveNet - for their performance on SWH time series prediction at 16 buoy locations. Surprisingly, the results suggest that the differences of performance among different models are negligible, indicating that all these AI models have only "learned" the linear auto-regression from the data. Adverse weather conditions such as rain and haze often lead to a degradation in the quality of maritime images, which is crucial for activities like navigation, fishing, and search and rescue. Therefore, it is of great interest to develop an effective algorithm to recover high-quality maritime images under adverse weather conditions. This paper proposes a prompt-based learning method with degradation perception for maritime image restoration, which contains two key components: a restoration module and a prompting module. The former is employed for image restoration, whereas the latter encodes weather-related degradation-specific information to modulate the restoration module, enhancing the recovery process for improved results. Inspired by the recent trend of prompt learning in artificial intelligence, this paper adopts soft-prompt technology to generate learnable visual prompt parameters for better perceiving the degradation-conditioned cues. The accuracy of short‐term photovoltaic (PV) power prediction is crucial for maintaining power system stability and grid scheduling. Here, a short‐term PV power prediction framework is proposed considering combined weather similarity day screening, signal decomposition noise reduction and hybrid deep learning to realize PV power prediction. First, a combined meteorological similar day screening model is constructed to screen out historical days similar to the day, which reduces the number of training sets; Second, Synchrosqueezing Wavelet Transform is utilized to eliminate data noise. Third, a Convolution Neural Network‐Gate Recurrent Unit (CNN‐GRU) network is constructed to extract periodic and nonlinear features in the PV power generation data series and to capture the relationship features between PV power generation and meteorological factors to improve the prediction accuracy. Fourth, the Sparrow Search Algorithm is introduced to perform hyper‐parameter optimization of the CNN‐GRU network to accelerate the model convergence and improve the model training efficiency. Finally, this paper conducts simulation experiments and the experimental results show that the prediction method proposed in this paper can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of short‐term PV power compared to the baseline model, and the method proposed in this paper is superior to other conventional methods.
