Techniques for classifying data using data mining are now a day prevalent in agriculture. The method of classifying seeds involves grouping various seed varieties according to their morphological characteristics. To accomplish categorization of the typical Charotar region (generally comprising Anand and Kheda districts of the Gujarat State of India) Gujarat Wheat (GW) varieties (TRITICUM – AESTIVUM) viz. GW 273, GW 496, GW 322, LOK-1, and GDW 1255 (TRITICUM – DURUM), Weka Explorer was used. The features used are area, perimeter, solidity, aspect ratio, major and minor axis of seed kernel, Hue, Saturation, Value, and SF1 (empirical). Features reduction was done using Information Gain (IG) and its modified version Gain Ratio (GR). This paper compares performance of Tree based data mining algorithms in classifying wheat varieties. For classification we used purely tree-based machine learning algorithms viz. J48, Random Forest, Hoeffding Tree, Logistic Model Tree (LMT), and REPTree. LMT- logistics regression method gives higher accuracy 96.4% compared to other classifiers. Hoeffding Tree classifiers stood second with 96% accuracy. For validation 10-fold cross validation was used. By reducing the number of folds in cross validation performance of most algorithms decreased except J48. This paper considers the offline assignment of fixed priorities in partitioned preemptive real-time systems where tasks have precedence constraints. This problem is crucial in this type of systems, as having a good fixed priority assignment allows for an efficient use of the processing resources while meeting all the deadlines. In the literature, we can find several proposals to solve this problem, which offer varying trade-offs between the quality of their results and their computational complexities. In this paper , we propose a new approach, leveraging existing algorithms that are widely exploited in the field of Machine Learning: Gradient Descent, the Adam Optimizer, and Gradient Noise. We show how to adapt these algorithms to the problem of fixed priority assignment in conjunction with existing worst-case response time analyses. We demonstrate the performance of our proposal on synthetic task-sets with different sizes. This evaluation shows that our proposal is able to find more schedulable solutions than previous heuristics, approximating optimal but intractable algorithms such as MILP or brute-force, while requiring reasonable execution times. In this study, the experimental performance of the evaluation system based on scientific emotion construction is analyzed by the machine learning algorithm. The experimental results show that the classification model realized by the machine learning algorithm is feasible and effective for the construction of an interactive design teaching evaluation system of preschool education in colleges and universities. The main research content of this experiment is for the teaching evaluation text, this paper intends to use NB, KNN, LR, and SVM algorithms as the meta-learning algorithm in the framework, the classification effect of the meta-classifier is ranked as SVM > LR > KNN > NB. From the above data comparison, the SVM meta-classifier in the algorithm in this paper has achieved the best classification effect. The SVM meta-classifier based on the algorithm in this paper performs well, and the classification accuracy rate reaches 92.1%. This shows that this model is very suitable for studying the. Semi-Supervised Graph Clustering (SSGC) has emerged as a pivotal field at the intersection of graph clustering and semi-supervised learning (SSL), offering innovative solutions to intricate data analysis problems. However, despite its significance and wide-ranging applications, there exists a notable void in the literature—a comprehensive survey specifically dedicated to SSGC techniques and their diverse applications remains conspicuously absent. Addressing this gap, this paper presents a systematic and comprehensive review of SSGC methodologies, spanning from well-established approaches to cutting-edge developments. Through a meticulous categorization, critical examination, and insightful discussion of these techniques, this survey not only illuminates the current landscape of SSGC but also identifies unexplored avenues for exploration and innovation. In this paper we present a comprehensive survey of conventional graph construction, graph clustering, SSL methods, evaluation metrics and their primary development process. We then provide a taxonomy of SSGC techniques based on their structures and principles and thoroughly analyze and discuss the related models. Furthermore, we review the applications of SSGC in various fields. Lastly, we summarize the limitations of current SSGC algorithms and discuss the future directions of the field. Advances over the past decade at the intersection of information fusion methods and Semi-Supervised Learning (SSL) are investigated in this paper that grapple with challenges related to limited labelled data. To do so, a bibliographic review of papers published since 2013 is presented, in which ensemble methods are combined with new machine learning algorithms. A total of 128 new proposals using SSL algorithms for ensemble construction are identified and classified. All the methods are categorised by approach, ensemble type, and base classifier. Experimental protocols, pre-processing, dataset usage, unlabelled ratios, and statistical tests are also assessed, underlining the major trends, and some shortcomings of particular studies. It is evident from this literature review that foundational algorithms such as self-training and co-training are influencing current developments, and that innovative ensemble techniques are continuing to emerge. Achieving precision in the prediction of buildings' dynamic heat load is crucial for the advancement of smart heating systems. This research highlights the urgent need to enhance the accuracy of models predicting dynamic heat load. Through literature review, distinguished machine learning and regression algorithms were chosen to formulate prediction models. These models employ a data time-step adaptive strategy, a physics-guided loss function, and fundamental principles of heat transfer. Optimization algorithms of a mathematical nature were utilized to fine-tune the parameters and the framework of long short-term memory (LSTM) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) models. An analytical comparison was undertaken between physics-guided models and those not guided by physics. Principal conclusions are: 1) Pelican optimization algorithm (POA)-LSTM model emerges as superior in heat load prediction accuracy of an office building, with percentage errors for actual and simulated datasets ranging from −6.7 % to 5.8 % and −5.2 %–4.5 %, respectively, and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) standing at 2.3 % and 1.3 %. 2) The linear regression model exhibits the lowest precision, with a MAPE of 17.5 % and 4.0 % for the 7-day prediction results in the actual and simulated datasets, respectively. In the last years, the massive deployment of new photovoltaic (PV) power plants has launched the connection of PV inverters to the electrical network. A single medium-sized ground-mounted PV plant may have thousands of these inverters linked to the grid and even more PV panels on the DC side. Upon reaching such a substantial magnitude of devices involved in grid-connected installations, the effective operation, management, predictive maintenance, and fault detection becomes increasingly challenging without integrating advanced prediction and automated anomaly detection systems. Artificial intelligence algorithms, grounded in data measurements, can be pivotal in addressing this challenge. This paper proposes several regression-based methods to predict PV plants' energy generation, which is useful for detecting transient and long-term anomalies. These models are trained using a Recursive Least Squares (RLS) method and require a minimum number of variables to yield satisfactory outcomes, which is one of the paper's contributions. They mainly rely on energy generation measurements and geolocation. Within the scope of this research, two distinct algorithms have been implemented and validated. The first algorithm, a simplified model, is engineered to analyse the daily efficiency variation, prioritizing the identification of faults and abnormal operational profiles in PV plants. On the other hand, the second algorithm adopts a more intricate model tailored to facilitate long-term diagnosis, enabling the assessment of PV efficiency degradation. The emergence of IoT has introduced new security concerns, particularly the detection of large-scale network attacks initiated by compromised IoT devices. The diverse nature of IoT devices adds complexity to attack detection, necessitating the classification of devices based on their unique characteristics and behavior patterns. This paper presents a novel device classification method grounded in traffic differentials before and after IoT devices succumb to compromise. The study defines the concept of attack sensitivity and designs a method for calculating the value. The K-means algorithm is used to classify devices into predefined categories based on their attack sensitivity values. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated through experiments on a public dataset. Additionally, a multi-class classification model is developed to identify newly added devices to the IoT environment, with good results in accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and FPR (0.999, 0.997–1,0.997–1,0.998–1,0–0.001). Overall, The device classification method proposed in this paper, based on attack sensitivity, not only enables a rational definition of device categories but also ensures precise classification for devices newly integrated into the IoT environment. This comprehensive review focuses on the Autonomous Driving System (ADS), which aims to reduce human errors that are the reason for about 95% of car accidents. The ADS consists of six stages: sensors, perception, localization, assessment, path planning, and control. We explain the main state-of-the-art techniques used in each stage, analyzing 275 papers, with 162 specifically on path planning due to its complexity, NP-hard optimization nature, and pivotal role in ADS. This paper categorizes path planning techniques into three primary groups: traditional (graph-based, sampling-based, gradient-based, optimization-based, interpolation curve algorithms), machine and deep learning, and meta-heuristic optimization, detailing their advantages and drawbacks. Findings show that meta-heuristic optimization methods, representing 23% of our study, are preferred for being general problem solvers capable of handling complex problems. In addition, they have faster convergence and reduced risk of local minima. Machine and deep learning techniques, accounting for 25%, are favored for their learning capabilities and fast responses to known scenarios. The trend towards hybrid algorithms (27%) combines various methods, merging each algorithm's benefits and overcoming the other's drawbacks. Moreover, adaptive parameter tuning is crucial to enhance efficiency, applicability, and balancing the search capability. Feature selection (FS) is an important data preprocessing technology for machine learning and data mining. Metaheuristic algorithm (MH) has been widely used in feature selection because of its powerful search function. This paper presents an improved Binary Dandelion Algorithm using Sine Cosine operator and Restart strategy (SCRBDA) for feature selection. First, the sine cosine operator is used in the radius formula of the core dandelions (CD), which significantly enhances the ability of algorithm development and exploration. Secondly, the algorithm uses a restart strategy to increase its ability to get rid of local optimum. Thirdly, mutual information is used to guide the generation of some dandelions, which pays more attention to the correlation between the selected features and categories. Finally, quick bit mutation is used as the mutation strategy to improve the diversity of the population. The SCRBDA proposed in this paper was tested on 18 datasets of different sizes from UCI machine learning database. The SCRBDA was compared with 8 other classical feature selection algorithms, and the performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated through feature subset size, classification accuracy, fitness value, and F1-score. The experimental results show that SCRBDA achieves the best performance, which has stronger feature reduction ability and achieves better overall performance on most datasets. In this paper, we apply the machine learning clustering algorithm Density Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) to study the membership of stars in twelve open clusters (NGC 2264, NGC 2682, NGC 2244, NGC 3293, NGC 6913, NGC 7142, IC 1805, NGC 6231, NGC 2243, NGC 6451, NGC 6005 and NGC 6583) based on Gaia DR3 Data. This sample of clusters spans a variety of parameters like age, metallicity, distance, extinction and a wide parameter space in proper motions and parallaxes. We obtain reliable cluster members using DBSCAN as faint as G ∼ 20 mag and also in the outer regions of clusters. With our revised membership list, we plot color-magnitude diagrams and we obtain cluster parameters for our sample using ASteCA and compare it with the catalog values. We also validate our membership sample by spectroscopic data from APOGEE and GALAH for the available data. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of DBSCAN in membership determination of clusters. In the era of rapid paper publications in various venues, automatic citation recommendations would be highly useful to researchers when they write papers. Local citation recommendation aims to recommend possible papers to cite given local citation contexts. Previous work mainly computes the similarity score between citation contexts and cited papers on a one-to-one basis, which is quite time-consuming. We train a pair of neural network encoders that map citation contexts and all possible cited papers to the same vector space, respectively. After that, we index the positions of all cited papers in the vector space. This makes our process for searching recommended papers considerably faster. On the other hand, existing methods tend to recommend papers that are highly similar to each other, which makes recommendations lack diversity. Therefore, we extend our algorithm to perform multi-topic recommendations. We generate multi-topic training examples based on the index we mentioned earlier. Furthermore, we specially design a multi-group contrastive learning method to train our model so that it can distinguish different topics. Empirical experiments show that our model outperforms previous methods by a wide margin. Intelligent Fault-Tolerant Control (IFTC) refers to the applications of machine learning algorithms for fault diagnosis and design of Fault-Tolerant Control (FTC). The overall goal of the FTC is to accommodate defects in the system components while they are in use and maintain stability with little to no performance reduction. These systems are crucial for mission-critical and safety-related applications where the safety of people is at stake and service continuity is crucial. In this review paper, a systematic study has been done for the development of FTC with machine learning, deep learning, and transfer learning algorithms. The challenges and limitations faced with their possible solutions through machine learning theories for the IFTC model are lined up. This paper guides researchers on the different possible types of machine learning algorithms and their advanced forms like deep learning and transfer learning. The differences among these are highlighted by the challenges and limitations of each. The paper is significant such that most of the important literature references from the Scopus database particularly related to important electrical and mechanical industrial problems have been discussed to guide the researchers who want to apply IFTC for specific industrial problems, being the research gap. Despite the existence of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies that address biomechanical deficits, the persistence of recurrent ankle problems in 70% of patients with acute ankle sprains highlights the unresolved nature of this issue. Artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a promising tool to identify definitive predictors for ankle sprains. This paper aims to summarize the use of AI in investigating the ankle biomechanics of healthy and subjects with ankle sprains. Articles published between 2010 and 2023 were searched from five electronic databases. 59 papers were included for analysis with regards to: i). types of motion tested (functional vs. purposeful ankle movement); ii) types of biomechanical parameters measured (kinetic vs kinematic); iii) types of sensor systems used (lab-based vs field-based); and, iv) AI techniques used. Most studies (83.1%) examined biomechanics during functional motion. Single kinematic parameter, specifically ankle range of motion, could obtain accuracy up to 100% in identifying injury status. Wearable sensor exhibited high reliability for use in both laboratory and on-field/clinical settings. AI algorithms primarily utilized electromyography and joint angle information as input data. Support vector machine was the most used supervised learning algorithm (18.64%), while artificial neural network demonstrated the highest accuracy in eight studies. The potential for remote patient monitoring is evident with the adoption of field-based devices. Nevertheless, AI-based sensors are underutilized in detecting ankle motions at risk of sprain. We identify three key challenges: sensor designs, the controllability of AI models, and the integration of AI-sensor models, providing valuable insights for future research. In this paper, to investigate the problem of radio wave propagation in complex environments, a new algorithm is proposed based on the equivalence principle algorithm and the domain decomposition method to rapidly and accurately predict electromagnetic scattering and radio wave propagation in half-space. First, equivalent surfaces are introduced to decompose the obstacle region and replace the scattering effect of obstacles within the equivalent surfaces with equivalent input and output electromagnetic currents. Then, the operator S, representing the relationship between the input and output equivalent electromagnetic currents on the equivalent surfaces, and the operator T, representing the interactions between the equivalent electromagnetic currents on each equivalent surface, are derived; this allows the calculation process of the overall spatial field in a complex environment to be simplified to the iterative calculation process of operators S and T. To reduce the complexity of calculating S, a neural network embedded with physical information is introduced to replace the calculation process. Finally, the training results are applied to an example and compared with the theoretical numerical results yielded by the method of moments in different cases with obstacles. The results reveal that the new method proposed in this paper is highly accurate and achieves a substantial improvement in calculation speed. Federated learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning method to protect users' privacy and security. It currently faces the following two problems (McMahan et al., 2017): (1) The performance of the global model degrades when dealing with Non-Independent Identically Distributed (Non-IID) data. Other existing classical methods do not have a rigorous theory based on error processing ; (2) In the process of global model aggregation, the classical FL algorithm either directly averages local models or solely considers the proportion of local data to assign weights to the models, without accounting for the discrepancies between the local models. In this paper, a federated aggregation algorithm Federated Maximum Mean Discrepancy (FedMMD) is proposed to address the deviation between the local models and Non-IID. First of all, this paper utilizes the Dilated Convolution Meet Transformer (DCMT) model for local model feature extraction. This approach aims to capture more feature information and minimize the impact of Non-IID scenarios. Secondly, the learning stability of the local model data participating in the aggregation is compared with Maximum Mean Discrepancy (MMD). The weights of the local models involved in the aggregation are determined using the SKNQ (Student–Keuls–Newman-Q) method and the entropy weight method. The SKNQ method calculates and compares the MMD across multiple clients, while the entropy weight method assigns different weights to clients based on their deviations. On the standard dataset, the FedAvg algorithm (McMahan et al., 2017), the FedProx algorithm (Li et al., 2020) and the FedMMD algorithm are compared. Accurate prediction of traffic flow is crucial to building a smart city. Given the nonlinearity of traffic flow, this paper proposes an extreme learning machine (ELM) algorithm based on residual correction and Tent chaos sequence combined with the DROP strategy. The algorithm is referred to as TRELM-DROP. The Tent chaos strategy and residual correction method reduce the impact of randomness in traffic flow. On this basis, the Tent and residual correction strategy avoids the weight optimization of the ELM algorithm using the iterative method. A DROP strategy is proposed in the proposed algorithm to improve its ability to predict traffic flow under varying conditions. A comprehensive comparison of 36 real-world datasets is presented in this paper, comparing TRELM-DROP with other benchmark models. The removal of shadows from images is a classic problem in computer vision, aiming to restore the lighting in shadowed areas, thereby reducing the information interference and loss caused by the presence of shadows. In recent years, numerous excellent shadow removal algorithms have emerged, particularly with the rapid development of deep learning technology, which has disrupted traditional physics-based approaches and significantly improved the effectiveness of shadow removal. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive survey of shadow removal methods published from 2017 to the present. We first introduce background knowledge about image shadow removal, providing detailed explanations of both physics-based and learning-based shadow removal methods. We analyze and compare these algorithms from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, reassessing all models that provided open-source result sets according to uniform criteria. Additionally, we introduce commonly used datasets and evaluation metrics in the field. In the last decade it became increasingly apparent the inability of technical metrics such as accuracy, sustainability, and non-regressiveness to well characterize the behavior of intelligent systems. In fact, they are nowadays requested to meet also ethical requirements such as explainability, fairness, robustness, and privacy increasing our trust in their use in the wild. Of course often technical and ethical metrics are in tension between each other but the final goal is to be able to develop a new generation of more responsible and trustworthy machine learning. In this paper, we focus our attention on machine learning algorithms and associated predictive models, questioning for the first time, from a theoretical perspective, if it is possible to simultaneously guarantee their performance in terms of both technical and ethical metrics towards machine learning algorithms that we can trust. In particular, we will investigate for the first time both theory and practice of deterministic and randomized algorithms and associated predictive models showing the advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches. For this purpose we will leverage the most recent advances coming from the statistical learning theory: Complexity-Based Methods, Distribution Stability, PAC-Bayes, and Differential Privacy. Interpretation of the prediction is vital for mission critical tasks. Accurate interpretation relies upon the generalization accuracy of the model. In this paper, we propose a modified gradient descent learning algorithm to improve the generalization ability of a Spiking Neural Network with time-varying weights (SNN-t). This algorithm is referred to as GradST, can help towards improving the interpretation of multiclass classification problems. We have transformed the SNN-t to a Generalized Additive Model (GAM) to provide interpretation. The resultant Spiking Additive Model (SAM) has the generalization ability of SNN-t and the interpretable characteristics of GAM for multiclass problems. We also propose a post-processing method to enable better visualization of multiple shape functions of GAMs, towards better relative interpretation for multiclass classification problems. The post-processing method utilizes the properties of multiclass GAMs to visually modify the shape functions to establish the importance of the feature in multiclass setting. We first evaluate the performance of SNN-t, trained with GradST and the SAM generated from it, on large public datasets. The SNN-t trained with GradST has better generalization accuracy than other SNN-t classifier and consequently, the SAM generated from it has better generalization accuracy than other state-of-the-art multiclass GAMs. Improved accuracy in SAM implies more reliable interpretation. Then, we evaluate the proposed post-processing method for multiclass GAMs to provide relative interpretation. Drowsiness detection is a test designed to detect a person's reaction ability and speed while in a state of fatigue. This type of drowsiness detection has many practical applications in areas like driver monitoring, transportation industry, and workplace safety. In this paper, a new machine learning drowsiness detection algorithm based on hybrid brain network feature extraction is proposed. First, the raw electroencephalogram signals are segmented into 30 s epochs, which are decomposed with wavelet packet transform into 7 layers to extract 30 s sleep characteristic subbands and the 7-th layer subbands. After that, 30 s subbands are divided into 5 s subbands with 50% overlap. At the same time, 30 s subbands are reconstructed by phase space reconstruction (PSR), whose parameters are optimized through energy valley optimizer. Then, based on mutual information and horizontal visual graph, a hybrid brain network is constructed with the 7-th layer subbands, 5 s subbands and PSR subbands, respectively. Finally, network features and time–frequency features are extracted and input into random forest classifier. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through two tests: subject-independent test and subject-non-independent test. The results show that in Sleep-EDF dataset, accuracy, κ coefficient, recall, precision and F1-score obtained by the proposed algorithm can reach 94.19%, 88.39%, 95.37%, 92.53% and 93.93%, respectively. The target net method has been the foundation of deep reinforcement learning since Deepmind first proposed it in 2015. Almost all the current popular reinforcement learning algorithms include target net. However, while the slowly updated target network improves the stability of the algorithm, it also reduces the performance of the algorithm. In this paper, the authors design a novel triple-network algorithm(TPN). TPN combines the temporal-difference(TD) algorithm and policy gradient(PG) theorem. Using three networks to estimate the state value(v), action value (q) , and policy(π). These networks have no primary or secondary distinction but are trained synchronously and influence each other. The author found that through this TPN architecture, the convergence and stability of the algorithm can be greatly improved without increasing the amount of calculation. The lighting requirements are subjective and one light setting cannot work for all. However, there is little work on developing smart lighting algorithms that can adapt to user preferences. To address this gap, this paper uses fuzzy logic and reinforcement learning to develop an adaptive lighting algorithm. In particular, we develop a baseline fuzzy inference system (FIS) using the domain knowledge, generating light recommendation based on a set of intuitive rules. These rules, derived from existing literature, are based on environmental conditions i.e. daily glare index, and user information including age, activity, and chronotype. Through a feedback mechanism, the user interacts with the algorithm, correcting the algorithm output to their preferences. We interpret these corrections as rewards to a Q-learning algorithm, which tunes the FIS parameters online to match the user preferences. The Q-learning is a model-free learning algorithm that learns to act optimally by interacting with the user and the rewards it receives. This allows the proposed algorithm to work in a model-free manner, effectively handling the uncertainties that might arise from the individualistic preferences of users. To the authors' best knowledge, this algorithm is pioneering work in designing intelligent algorithms for personalized lighting control, featuring several elements of novelty, including the number of environmental and user-related inputs, the continuous control of light intensity as opposed to common on/off control, and the ability to learn user preferences. Grid-interactive building control poses a critical challenge in the context of grid modernization and decarbonization. Recently, various artificial intelligence-based optimal control approaches have been proposed, providing innovative solutions to optimal building control problems. However, researchers and practitioners are now confronted with a dilemma when selecting appropriate control strategies, ranging from model-based (knowledge-incorporating) to learning-based (data-driven) approaches, and hybrid methods combining them. Although each algorithm in existing literature claims superiority over specific baselines, their performance has never been systematically compared and analyzed, owing to the absence of a unified platform for comprehensive evaluation. To fill this knowledge gap, we identify and implement all state-of-the-art approaches within a modular training and evaluation framework, assessing their efficacy in a grid-interactive building control problem. In this paper, we also introduce a streamlined hybrid method that complements existing hybrid approaches. Our comparative study reveals and quantifies the advantages of hybrid methods: on average, they achieve near-optimal control while requiring less than 14% of the online computation of traditional model-based methods. To achieve this performance, they need as few as 2% of the training samples of purely learning-based methods. Finally, we provide insights into the merits, limitations, and implementation of each method to help researchers better understand the state of the art and future directions. Topological data analysis (TDA) is a powerful mathematical framework that extracts valuable insights about the shape and structure of complex datasets by identifying and analyzing underlying topological features, including connected components, holes, voids, and higher-dimensional counterparts. TDA achieves this by constructing a simplicial complex from the data, comprising simple shapes like points, lines, triangles, and higher-dimensional counterparts. The Vietoris–Rips complex (VRC), a widely used method, constructs simplicial complexes by measuring the distances between data points in a metric space. While the link between Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IFSs) and TDA is clear through intuitionistic fuzzy distance measures, the literature has not explored the application of TDA for extracting topological features from uncertain and vague datasets using IFSs. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that leverages Intuitionistic Fuzzy Distance Measures (IFDMs) to generate the Intuitionistic Fuzzy Vietoris–Rips Complex (IFVRC) of IFSs. Specifically, we investigate the persistence of invariant relations of topological features between IFVRCs constructed using different distances, including Atanassov's Euclidean distance (l 2 I F S), Boran and Akay's distance (D), and Liu's distance measure (d L), over artificially generated IFSs. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the generation of IFVRC can be viewed as a Natural Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm (NHCA) for IFSs. Finally, we apply the proposed IFVRC as a Natural Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm to cluster intuitionistic fuzzy datasets related to Car and Building materials. Bayesian network (BN) structure learning is the basis of BN applications and plays a pivotal role in many machine learning tasks. Whereas remarkable progress in structure learning has been achieved in the past, making further improvements in the efficiency and accuracy of structure learning is a significant challenge. In this paper, we propose an efficient skeleton learning approach-based hybrid algorithm (ESLH), which consists of two phases. In the constraint-based phase, a dynamic threshold (DTH) strategy and a skeleton learning method based on triangle breaking (SLTB) are proposed to learn the skeleton of a BN structure efficiently. DTH designs a dynamic threshold to remove redundant edges in the initial skeleton with little time overhead. By the result of DTH, SLTB first finds, tests and breaks triangles in the initial skeleton to efficiently remove redundant edges and then removes the remaining redundant edges to discover the final skeleton. In the score-and-search phase, ESLH employs the hill-climbing algorithm to find the highest-scored structure. We propose a novel strategy to divide this phase into three steps, both utilizing the learned skeleton to constrain the search space and preventing the errors of the learned skeleton from reducing the quality of the final learned structure. Extensive experiments on benchmark BNs validate the effectiveness of DTH and SLTB and demonstrate that ESLH is more than five times faster than the state-of-the-art structure learning algorithms while maintaining the highest average accuracy. Grassland restoration is a crucial method for preventing ecological degradation in grasslands. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) offer a promising solution to reduce extensive human labor and enhance restoration efficiency, given their fully automatic capabilities, yet their full potential remains exploited. This paper progresses this emerging technology for planning the grassland restoration. We undertake the first attempt to mathematically model the UAV-enabled restoration process as the maximization of restoration areas problem (MRAP). This model considers factors including limited UAV battery energy, grass seed weight, the number of restored areas, and their sizes. The MRAP is a composite problem involving trajectory design and area allocation, which are highly coupled and conflicting. Consequently, it requires solving two NP-hard subproblems: the variant Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and the Multidimensional Knapsack Problem (MKP) simultaneously. To address this complex problem, we introduce a novel cooperative memetic algorithm. The algorithm integrates an efficient heuristic algorithm, variant population-based incremental learning (PBIL), and a maximum-residual-energy-based local search (MRELS) strategy, referred to as CHAPBILM. The algorithm solves the two subproblems interlacedly by leveraging the interdependencies and inherent knowledge between them. The simulation results demonstrate that CHAPBILM successfully solves the MRAP on multiple instances in a near-optimal way. It also confirms the conflicts between trajectory design and area allocation. The effectiveness of CHAPBILM is further supported by comparisons with traditional optimization methods that do not exploit the interdependencies between the two subproblems. Nowadays, the ASIC design is increasing in complexity, and PPA targets are pushed to the limit. The lack of physical information at the early design stages hinders precise timing predictions and may lead to design re-spins. In previous work, we successfully improved timing prediction at the post-placement stage using the Random Forest model, achieving 91.25% cell delay accuracy. Building upon this, we further investigate the potential of Ensemble Tree-based algorithms, specifically focusing on " Extremely Randomized Trees " and " Gradient Boosting ", to close the gap in cell delay accuracy. In this paper, we enrich the training dataset with new 16 nm industrial designs. The results demonstrate a substantial improvement, with an average cell delay accuracy of 92.01% and 84.26% on unseen data. Machine learning and learning analytics are powerful tools that not only support researchers in the detailed measurement and enhancement of learning processes in various learning environments, but also enable the aggregation and synthesis of evidence regarding effective educational practices. This paper describes the development and application of machine learning algorithms aimed at semi-automatic selection of abstracts for a meta-analysis on the effects of simulation-based learning in higher education. The goal was to reduce the workload while also maintaining the transparency and objectivity of the selection process. The algorithms were trained, validated, and tested on a set of 3187 studies on simulation-based learning found in medical and educational databases collected before April 2018. Subsequently, they were utilized to classify abstracts for a follow-up meta-analysis consisting of 2373 studies (published between 2018 and 2020). The aim of training the algorithms was to predict studies' abstract eligibility based on words and combinations of words used in these abstracts. The application of the algorithms reduced the number of studies that had to be manually screened from 2373 to 711. A total of 458 studies from automatically selected abstracts were included in the full-text screening, indicating the high precision of the algorithms (also compared to the performance of human raters). The Wasserstein distance in the optimal transport (OT) model is being widely used in machine learning applications due to its mathematical and geometric properties. Since the entropy regularized OT is a convex problem, and for its large-scale problems, many algorithms have been proposed. Existing methods mainly adopt iterative random projection techniques to approximate the Wasserstein distance in the OT model. In this paper, we employ the entropic domain decomposition algorithm with mini-batch learning to calculate the entropy regularized OT problem and investigate the stability of this algorithm. The algorithm performs on different cells of the domain instead of using the projection technique and it is based on a mini-batch loss function. The corresponding solution in each iteration is derived from the dual problem of entropy regularized OT on each decomposed cell. Once the solutions to the dual problem on all decomposed cells are obtained, the corresponding transport plan in each iteration can be obtained. We show that the transport plan computed by its dual variables is admissible, and we also give the sub-gradient approximation result. In addition, we exploit the statistical concentration result of the subsampled mini-batch Wasserstein distance on decomposed cells. Multi-view clustering has achieved many applications in recent years. But the existing multi-view clustering methods face two problems, firstly, the traditional multi-view clustering uses a hard clustering method, which cannot describe the uncertainty between the samples and the clusters, and secondly how to perform effective incremental learning on multi-view data when the number of views increases. Therefore to address the above two problems, we firstly propose a three-way fuzzy spectral clustering algorithm based on fuzzy clustering, which can perform three-way clustering on multi-views and get soft clustering results, thus describing the uncertainty between samples and clusters. Then based on the sequential decision making approach, an incremental learning mechanism is designed for multi-view clustering when the number of views increases. Finally, these two works are combined to propose a multi-view clustering algorithm based on sequential three-way decision making. The field of machine learning (ML) has witnessed significant advancements in recent years. However, many existing algorithms lack interpretability and struggle with high-dimensional and imbalanced data. This paper proposes SPINEX, a novel similarity-based interpretable neighbor exploration algorithm designed to address these limitations. This algorithm combines ensemble learning and feature interaction analysis to achieve accurate predictions and meaningful insights by quantifying each feature's contribution to predictions and identifying interactions between features, thereby enhancing the interpretability of the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of SPINEX, extensive experiments on 59 synthetic and real datasets were conducted for both regression and classification tasks. The results demonstrate that SPINEX achieves comparative performance and, in some scenarios, may outperform commonly adopted ML algorithms. This paper introduces a deep learning method for image classification that leverages knowledge formalized as a graph created from information represented by pairs attribute/value. The proposed method investigates a loss function that adaptively combines the classical cross-entropy commonly used in deep learning with a novel penalty function. The novel loss function is derived from the representation of nodes after embedding the knowledge graph and incorporates the proximity between class and image nodes. Its formulation enables the model to focus on identifying the boundary between the most challenging classes to distinguish. Mixed integer Model Predictive Control (MPC) problems arise in the operation of systems where discrete and continuous decisions must be taken simultaneously to compensate for disturbances. The efficient solution of mixed integer MPC problems requires the computationally efficient online solution of mixed integer optimization problems, which are generally difficult to solve. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based branch and check Generalized Benders Decomposition algorithm for the efficient solution of such problems. We use machine learning to approximate the effect of the complicating variables on the subproblem by approximating the Benders cuts without solving the subproblem, therefore, alleviating the need to solve the subproblem multiple times. The proposed approach is applied to a mixed integer economic MPC case study on the operation of chemical processes. The concept of randomized neural networks (RNNs), such as the random vector functional link network (RVFL) and extreme learning machine (ELM), is a widely accepted and efficient network method for constructing single-hidden layer feedforward networks (SLFNs). Due to its exceptional approximation capabilities, RNN is being extensively used in various fields. While the RNN concept has shown great promise, its performance can be unpredictable in imperfect conditions, such as weight noises and outliers. Thus, there is a need to develop more reliable and robust RNN algorithms. To address this issue, this paper proposes a new objective function that addresses the combined effect of weight noise and training data outliers for RVFL networks. Based on the half-quadratic optimization method, we then propose a novel algorithm, named noise-aware RNN (NARNN), to optimize the proposed objective function. The convergence of the NARNN is also theoretically validated. We also discuss the way to use the NARNN for ensemble deep RVFL (edRVFL) networks. Finally, we present an extension of the NARNN to concurrently address weight noise, stuck-at-fault, and outliers. Inspired by evolutionary multitasking (EMT) and multi-objective optimization, this paper puts forward a novel multitasking multi-objective differential evolution gene selection algorithm (MMODE) which uses new elite and guidance strategies to select the best gene subsets. MMODE initializes two different populations according to different filtering criteria to increase the diversity of the search. These two populations guide their respective populations to search in the optimal direction through knowledge transfer in the evolutionary process. In addition, MMODE employs new elite and guidance strategies that enables individuals to narrow the search range and jump out of local optima. The proposed algorithm is validated on 13 publicly available microarray expression datasets in comparison with state-of-the-art gene selection algorithms. In this paper, we present an entity-centric infrastructure to manage legal documents, especially court judgments, based on the organization of a textual document repository and on the annotation of these documents to serve a variety of downstream tasks. Documents are pre-processed and then iteratively annotated using a set of NLP services that combine complementary approaches based on machine learning and syntactic rules. We present a framework that has been designed to be developed and maintained in a sustainable way, allowing for multiple services and uses of the annotated document repository and considering the scarcity of annotated data as an intrinsic challenge for its development. The design activity is the result of a cooperative project where a scientific team, institutional bodies, and companies appointed to implement the final system are involved in co-design activities. We describe experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of the solution and discuss the main challenges to scaling the system at a national level. In particular, we report the results we obtained in annotating data with different low-resource methods and with solutions designed to combine these approaches in a meaningful way. An essential aspect of the proposed solution is a human-in-the-loop approach to control the output of the annotation algorithms in agreement with the organizational processes in place in Italian courts. Based on these results we advocate for the feasibility of the proposed approach and discuss the challenges that must be addressed to ensure the scalability and robustness of the proposed solution. Deep Q-Networks algorithm (DQN) was the first reinforcement learning algorithm using deep neural network to successfully surpass human level performance in a number of Atari learning environments. However, divergent and unstable behaviour have been long standing issues in DQNs. The unstable behaviour is often characterised by overestimation in the Q -values, commonly referred to as the overestimation bias. To address the overestimation bias and the divergent behaviour, a number of heuristic extensions have been proposed. Notably, multi-step updates have been shown to drastically reduce unstable behaviour while improving agent's training performance. However, agents are often highly sensitive to the selection of the multi-step update horizon (n), and our empirical experiments show that a poorly chosen static value for n can in many cases lead to worse performance than single-step DQN. Inspired by the success of n -step DQN and the effects that multi-step updates have on overestimation bias, this paper proposes a new algorithm that we call 'Elastic Step DQN' (ES-DQN) to alleviate overestimation bias in DQNs. ES-DQN dynamically varies the step size horizon in multi-step updates based on the similarity between states visited. Accurately capturing data on the external loads that large structural systems endure is crucial for improving the performance of energy equipment. This paper introduces a novel hybrid model-data-driven framework for the dynamic load identification of interval structures, which seamlessly combines finite-element modeling with machine learning techniques. To address potential ill-posed issues in model-driven methods and the interpretability limitations of data-driven methods, we propose a physics-informed neural network. This neural network effectively inverts uncertain modal responses with low data requirements and high predictive performance high by integrating the underlying modal transformation equation into the loss function of a fully connected neural network. To identify the modal loads using predicted modal displacement/acceleration responses, we introduce a pioneering dynamics inversion method. This method modifies the traditional Kalman filter with an assumption of unknown inputs to reduce the sensitivity of load identification process to different noises. In addition, our approach incorporates a subinterval Chebyshev expansion method to adaptively determine the interval boundaries of external loads. The efficiency of the proposed method is assessed through two numerical examples and validated through comparative research against baseline methods. Biochemical sensors have become indispensable tools for real-time, on-site monitoring and analysis in diverse domains such as healthcare, environmental protection, and food safety. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) has opened new frontiers for enhancing the capabilities of these sensors across a spectrum of detection modalities. This paper delves into the recent integration of AI algorithms into biochemical sensors, examining this advancement from a functional standpoint and focusing on the empowerments it brings to electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, colorimetric, and Raman sensors. AI techniques aim to enhance the capabilities of biochemical sensors beyond traditional techniques and have enabled improved selectivity, drift correction, efficiency, resolution, assisted diagnosis, and biomarker screening from complex multidimensional data. Optimal path planning is a fundamental problem in artificial intelligence (AI) and has wide applications in areas such as robotics, transportation, and logistics. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for ordering algorithms in pathfinding problems using the concept of shell layers. Our approach aims to improve the computational efficiency and distance cost of ordering algorithms. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we compare it with five state-of-the-art techniques commonly used in the field of ordering algorithms on eight different scenarios with varying configurations. Our results show that our proposed approach outperformed the state-of-the-art techniques in terms of time-computational complexity and distance cost in most of the scenarios, demonstrating its potential as a new state-of-the-art technique for ordering algorithms. Specifically, our approach outperformed the nearest neighbor, A*, branch and bound, Christofides, and genetics ordering algorithms. However, we also identified two specific situations where our approach was outperformed by two state-of-the-art algorithms due to the specific distribution of the goal nodes. These findings highlight the importance of evaluating and comparing ordering algorithms in various scenarios. Our approach has significant implications for AI research and development, as it has the potential to improve the performance of pathfinding algorithms in various applications. We also discuss the limitations of our approach and potential areas for further research, such as investigating the effectiveness of our approach in different types of graphs and exploring the potential use of machine learning techniques to optimize the shell layer construction. Stochastic optimization (SO) algorithms based on the Powerball function, namely powered stochastic optimization (PoweredSO) algorithms, have been confirmed, effectively, and demonstrated great potential in the context of large-scale optimization and machine learning tasks. Nevertheless, the issue of how to determine the learning rate for PoweredSO is a challenge and still unsolved problem. In this paper, we propose a class of adaptive PoweredSO approaches that are efficient, scalable and robust. It takes advantage of the hypergradient descent (HD) technique to automatically acquire an online learning rate for PoweredSO-like methods. In the first part, we study the behavior of the canonical PoweredSO algorithm, the Powerball stochastic gradient descent (pbSGD) method, with HD. The existing PoweredSO algorithms also suffer from the high variance because they take the similar algorithmic framework to SO algorithms, arising from sampling tactics. Therefore, the second portion develops an adaptive powered variance-reduced optimization method via utilizing both variance-reduced technique and HD. Moreover, we present the convergence analysis of the proposed algorithms and explore their iteration complexity on non-convex cases. The acquisition of large atomic-force-microscopy (AFM) scans at nanoscale resolutions can take hours and produce datasets with millions of pixels, which is time consuming and computationally expensive to analyze. In this paper, we present an approach to speedup this process by using a computer-vision algorithm, namely the Noise2Noise algorithm, to reconstruct high-resolution, low scan speed AFM data from high-speed, noisy, sparsely sampled AFM data. This algorithm is trained on various noise types to reproduce different sources of experimental noises encountered during the acquisition of AFM data. Our results demonstrate that a sparse, uniform AFM scan of 20 × 20 μ m at 128 × 128 pixel resolution can be processed within seconds, and the output image is comparable to a higher quality raw AFM data scan which required 30 minutes or more to collect and process manually, reducing not only the acquisition and analysis time, but also the size of the data being collected. • High resolution, low scan speed AFM images are reconstructed from higher scan speeds data. • The Noise2Noise algorithm is used to map noisy AFM images to clean AFM images. • Several noise modes are used to train the algorithm to mimic realistic noises in AFM data. • Process of raw and fast scan data corrections leads to up to 70% improvement in image quality. MapReduce is a popular paradigm in distributed computing, but it is not efficient when executing iterative algorithms over a distributed big dataset due to its heavy data communication overhead. Non-MapReduce computing is an alternative for improving computing efficiency and data scalability when using iterative algorithms to process big distributed datasets on clusters. In this paper, we investigate Non-MapReduce approach in distributed computing and use Spark implementations of machine learning algorithms to discuss the problems of MapReduce in executing iterative algorithms over a big distributed dataset and the advantages of Non-MapReduce for the same tasks. We present a method to build a new machine learning library made of sequential algorithms for distributed computing. We use experiment results to show comparisons of computing efficiency and data scalability of MapReduce and Non-MapReduce in executing six machine learning algorithms over big datasets. Attribute reduction can remove data noise and redundancy, thus reducing computational complexity, which is very important for machine learning. Because the difference between nominal attribute values is difficult to measure, attribute reduction for hybrid data faces challenges. In addition, most of the existing methods are sensitive to noise due to the lack of an anti-noise mechanism. Decision attribute contains the most important information of data. This paper proposes some techniques that consider the above problems from the perspective of fuzzy evidence theory. First of all, a new distance incorporating decision attributes is defined, and then a new fuzzy relation with an anti-noise mechanism is defined. Furthermore, fuzzy belief and fuzzy plausibility are defined based on the defined new distance and new fuzzy relation. In this framework, two anti-noise attribute reduction algorithms for hybrid data are proposed. Experiments on 12 data sets of various types show that compared with the other 8 state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed algorithms improve the classification accuracy by at least 2% and the anti-noise ability by at least 11%. The generalized eigenvalue problem (GEP) plays a significant role in signal processing and machine learning. This paper proposes a consensus-based distributed algorithm for GEP in multi-agent systems, where the data are distributively stored across agents. The distributed GEP is reformulated as a consensus optimization, but the presence of its quadratic inseparable constraint makes the considered problem more challenging. To deal with it, a sequential method combined with the alternating direction method of multipliers is proposed, which requires communication between multiple pairs of nodes. Theoretical analysis shows the proposed algorithm will converge to the set of stationary solutions.
