Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) can radically change almost every aspect of the human experience. In the medical field, there are numerous applications of AI and subsequently, in a relatively short time, significant progress has been made. Cardiology is not immune to this trend, this fact being supported by the exponential increase in the number of publications in which the algorithms play an important role in data analysis, pattern discovery, identification of anomalies, and therapeutic decision making. Furthermore, with technological development, there have appeared new models of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DP) that are capable of exploring various applications of AI in cardiology, including areas such as prevention, cardiovascular imaging, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and many others. In this sense, the present article aims to provide a general vision of the current state of AI use in cardiology. Results: We identified and included a subset of 200 papers directly relevant to the current research covering a wide range of applications. Thus, this paper presents AI applications in cardiovascular imaging, arithmology, clinical or emergency cardiology, cardiovascular prevention, and interventional procedures in a summarized manner. Recent studies from the highly scientific literature demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of using AI in different branches of cardiology. Conclusions: The integration of AI in cardiology offers promising perspectives for increasing accuracy by decreasing the error rate and increasing efficiency in cardiovascular practice. From predicting the risk of sudden death or the ability to respond to cardiac resynchronization therapy to the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism or the early detection of valvular diseases, AI algorithms have shown their potential to mitigate human error and provide feasible solutions. At the same time, limits imposed by the small samples studied are highlighted alongside the challenges presented by ethical implementation; these relate to legal implications regarding responsibility and decision making processes, ensuring patient confidentiality and data security. With the rapid development of modern geochemical analysis techniques, massive volumes of data are being generated from various sources and forms, and geochemical data acquisition and analysis have become important tools for studying geochemical processes and environmental changes. However, geochemical data have high-dimensional, nonlinear characteristics, and traditional geochemical data analysis methods have struggled to meet the demands of modern science. Nowadays, the development of big data and artificial intelligence technologies has provided new ideas and methods for geochemical data analysis. However, geochemical research involves numerous fields such as petrology, ore deposit, mineralogy, and others, each with its specific research methods and objectives, making it difficult to strike a balance between depth and breadth of investigation. Additionally, due to limitations in data sources and collection methods, existing studies often focus on a specific discipline or issue, lacking a comprehensive understanding of the bigger picture and foresight for the future. To assist geochemists in identifying research hotspots in the field and exploring solutions to the aforementioned issues, this article comprehensively reviews related studies in recent years, elaborates on the necessity and challenges of combining geochemistry and artificial intelligence, and analyzes the characteristics and research hotspots of the global collaboration network in this field. The study reveals that the investigation into artificial intelligence techniques to address geochemical issues is progressing swiftly. Joint research papers serve as the primary means of contact within a worldwide collaborative network. The primary areas of focus in the ongoing research on the integration of geochemistry and artificial intelligence include methodologies for analyzing geochemical data, environmental modifications, and mineral prospectivity mapping. Geochemical data analysis is currently a significant focus of research, encompassing a range of methods including machine learning and deep learning. Predicting mineral resources for deep space, deep Earth, and deep sea is also a pressing topic in contemporary research. Advancements in Healthcare Internet of Things (H-IoT) systems have created new opportunities and solutions for healthcare services, including the remote treatment and monitoring of patients. In addition, the security and privacy of personal health data must be ensured during data transfer. Security breaches in H-IoT can have serious safety and legal implications. This comprehensive review provides insights about secured data accession by employing cryptographic platforms such as H-IoT in big data, H-IoT in blockchain, H-IoT in machine learning and deep learning, H-IoT in edge computing, and H-IoT in software-defined networks. With this information, this paper reveals solutions to mitigate threats caused by different kinds of attacks. The prevailing challenges in H-IoT systems, including security and scalability challenges, real-time operating challenges, resource constraints, latency, and power consumption challenges are also addressed. We also discuss in detail the current trends in H-IoT, such as remote patient monitoring and predictive analytics. Additionally, we have explored future prospects, such as leveraging health data for informed strategic planning. A critical analysis performed by highlighting the prevailing limitations in H-IoT systems is also presented. This paper will hopefully provide future researchers with in-depth insights into the selection of appropriate cryptographic measures to adopt an energy-efficient and resource-optimized healthcare system. Featured Application: This paper proposes a new deep learning design to obtain accurate plots of RS information. The innovative model incorporates embedding layers of small (representable) sizes, variational layers to improve the latent space and to spread samples, and a Euclidean similarity measure to place samples according to the intuitive human interpretation of distances. Visual representation of user and item relations is an important issue in recommender systems. This is a big data task that helps to understand the underlying structure of the information, and it can be used by company managers and technical staff. Current collaborative filtering machine learning models are designed to improve prediction accuracy, not to provide suitable visual representations of data. This paper proposes a deep learning model specifically designed to display the existing relations among users, items, and both users and items. Making use of representative datasets, we show that by setting small embedding sizes of users and items, the recommender system accuracy remains nearly unchanged; it opens the door to the use of bidimensional and three-dimensional representations of users and items. The proposed neural model incorporates variational embedding stages to "unpack" (extend) embedding representations, which facilitates identifying individual samples. It also replaces the join layers in current models with a Lambda Euclidean layer that better catches the space representation of samples. The results show numerical and visual improvements when the proposed model is used compared to the baselines. The work presented in this paper makes multiple scientific contributions related to the investigation of the global fear associated with COVID-19 by performing a comprehensive analysis of a dataset comprising survey responses of participants from 40 countries. First, the results of subjectivity analysis performed using TextBlob, showed that in the responses where participants indicated their biggest concern related to COVID-19, the average subjectivity by the age group of 41–50 decreased from April 2020 to June 2020, the average subjectivity by the age group of 71–80 drastically increased from May 2020, and the age group of 11–20 indicated the least level of subjectivity between June 2020 to August 2020. Second, subjectivity analysis also revealed the percentage of highly opinionated, neutral opinionated, and least opinionated responses per age-group where the analyzed age groups were 11–20, 21–30, 31–40, 41–50, 51–60, 61–70, 71–80, and 81–90. For instance, the percentage of highly opinionated, neutral opinionated, and least opinionated responses by the age group of 11–20 were 17.92%, 16.24%, and 65.84%, respectively. Third, data analysis of responses from different age groups showed that the highest percentage of responses indicating that they were very worried about COVID-19 came from individuals in the age group of 21–30. Fourth, data analysis of the survey responses also revealed that in the context of taking precautions to prevent contracting COVID-19, the percentage of individuals in the age group of 31–40 taking precautions was higher as compared to the percentages of individuals from the age groups of 41–50, 51–60, 61–70, 71–80, and 81–90. Fifth, a deep learning model was developed to detect if the survey respondents were seeing or planning to see a psychologist or psychiatrist for any mental health issues related to COVID-19. The design of the deep learning model comprised 8 neurons for the input layer with the ReLU activation function, the ReLU activation function for all the hidden layers with 12 neurons each, and the sigmoid activation function for the output layer with 1 neuron. The model utilized the responses to multiple questions in the context of fear and preparedness related to COVID-19 from the dataset and achieved an accuracy of 91.62% after 500 epochs. To aid cocrystal screening, a deep forest-based cocrystal prediction model was developed in this study using data from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). The positive samples in the experiment came from the CSD. The negative samples were partly from the failure records in other papers, and some were randomly generated according to specific rules, resulting in a total of 8576 pairs. Compared with the models of traditional machine learning methods and simple deep neural networks models, the deep forest model has better performance and faster training speed. The accuracy is about 95% on the test set. Febuxostat cocrystal screening was also tested to verify the validity of the model. Our model correctly predicted the formation of cocrystal. This document is a summary of a special issue on transportation big data and its applications. The issue explores various topics related to big data in transportation, including architectures, processing methods, and utilization for tasks such as traffic pattern discovery, collision identification, and operational efficiency optimization. The issue includes sixteen papers covering a range of subjects, such as maritime traffic evaluation, urban traffic intersection extraction, and risk measurement and forecasting. Digital rural agricultural engineering is the most widely representative innovative application of digital technology in the field of modern China's new agricultural technology and economic development and the practice of China's new rural economy and society under the background of the process of modern social knowledge networking, intelligent information society, and the digital sharing of social information resources. Using the method of literature research, this paper analyzes the problems existing in the current logistics circulation system of agricultural products. Through the co-occurrence analysis of technical keywords, this paper studies the current situation in the field of agricultural product logistics circulation systems and puts forward countermeasures and measures to promote the innovation and development of agricultural product logistics circulation systems. Finally, it is concluded that we should explore and innovate to build a fresh circulation supply chain system of new smart agricultural products in the new era of agriculture driven by rural big data. This paper introduces the Hopsworks platform to the entire Earth Observation (EO) data community and the Copernicus programme. Hopsworks is a scalable data-intensive open-source Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform that was jointly developed by Logical Clocks and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology for building end-to-end Machine Learning (ML)/Deep Learning (DL) pipelines for EO data. It provides the full stack of services needed to manage the entire life cycle of data in ML. In particular, Hopsworks supports the development of horizontally scalable DL applications in notebooks and the operation of workflows to support those applications, including parallel data processing, model training, and model deployment at scale. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that demonstrates the services and features of the Hopsworks platform, which provide users with the means to build scalable end-to-end ML/DL pipelines for EO data, as well as support for the discovery and search for EO metadata. This paper serves as a demonstration and walkthrough of the stages of building a production-level model that includes data ingestion, data preparation, feature extraction, model training, model serving, and monitoring. To this end, we provide a practical example that demonstrates the aforementioned stages with real-world EO data and includes source code that implements the functionality of the platform. We also perform an experimental evaluation of two frameworks built on top of Hopsworks, namely Maggy and AutoAblation. We show that using Maggy for hyperparameter tuning results in roughly half the wall-clock time required to execute the same number of hyperparameter tuning trials using Spark while providing linear scalability as more workers are added. Furthermore, we demonstrate how AutoAblation facilitates the definition of ablation studies and enables the asynchronous parallel execution of ablation trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Monitoring Indicators of Compromise (IOC) leads to malware detection for identifying malicious activity. Malicious activities potentially lead to a system breach or data compromise. Various tools and anti-malware products exist for the detection of malware and cyberattacks utilizing IOCs, but all have several shortcomings. For instance, anti-malware systems make use of malware signatures, requiring a database containing such signatures to be constantly updated. Additionally, this technique does not work for zero-day attacks or variants of existing malware. In the quest to fight zero-day attacks, the research paradigm shifted from primitive methods to classical machine learning-based methods. Primitive methods are limited in catering to anti-analysis techniques against zero-day attacks. Hence, the direction of research moved towards methods utilizing classic machine learning, however, machine learning methods also come with certain limitations. They may include but not limited to the latency/lag introduced by feature-engineering phase on the entire training dataset as opposed to the real-time analysis requirement. Likewise, additional layers of data engineering to cater to the increasing volume of data introduces further delays. It led to the use of deep learning-based methods for malware detection. With the speedy occurrence of zero-day malware, researchers chose to experiment with few shot learning so that reliable solutions can be produced for malware detection with even a small amount of data at hand for training. In this paper, we surveyed several possible strategies to support the real-time detection of malware and propose a hierarchical model to discover security events or threats in real-time. A key focus in this survey is on the use of Deep Learning-based methods. Deep Learning based methods dominate this research area by providing automatic feature engineering, the capability of dealing with large datasets, enabling the mining of features from limited data samples, and supporting one-shot learning. We compare Deep Learning-based approaches with conventional machine learning based approaches and primitive (statistical analysis based) methods commonly reported in the literature. Future Some important future directions are given here according to the conclusions of the published papers, which can help future researchers easily find starting points in their research in the domain of machine learning for big data analytics problems. Big data analytics is one high focus of data science and there is no doubt that big data is now quickly growing in all science and engineering fields. Several promising machine learning techniques can be used for big data analytics including representation learning, deep learning, distributed and parallel learning, transfer learning, active learning, and kernel-based learning. The smart city vision has driven the rapid development and advancement of interconnected technologies using the Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPS). In this paper, various aspects of IoT and CPS in recent years (from 2013 to May 2023) are surveyed. It first begins with industry standards which ensure cost-effective solutions and interoperability. With ever-growing big data, tremendous undiscovered knowledge can be mined to be transformed into useful applications. Machine learning algorithms are taking the lead to achieve various target applications with formulations such as classification, clustering, regression, prediction, and anomaly detection. Notably, attention has shifted from traditional machine learning algorithms to advanced algorithms, including deep learning, transfer learning, and data generation algorithms, to provide more accurate models. In recent years, there has been an increasing need for advanced security techniques and defense strategies to detect and prevent the IoT and CPS from being attacked. The advancement of the Internet of Things applications (technologies and enabling platforms), consisting of software and hardware (e.g., sensors, actuators, etc.), allows healthcare providers and users to analyze and measure physical environments at home or hospital. The measured physical environment parameters contribute to improving healthcare in real time. Researchers in this domain require existing representative datasets to develop machine-learning techniques to learn physical variables from the surrounding environments. The available environmental datasets are rare and need too much effort to be generated. To our knowledge, it has been noticed that no datasets are available for some countries, including Saudi Arabia. Therefore, this paper presents one of the first environmental data generated in Saudi Arabia's environment. The advantage of this dataset is to encourage researchers to investigate the effectiveness of machine learning in such an environment. The collected data will also help utilize the machine learning and deep learning algorithms in smart home and health care applications based on the Saudi Arabia environment. Saudi Arabia has a special environment in each session, especially in the northern area where we work, where it is too hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Therefore, environmental data measurements in both sessions are important for the research community, especially those working in smart and healthcare environments. The dataset is generated based on the indoor environment from six sensors (timestamps, light, temperature, humidity, pressure, and altitude sensors). The room data were collected for 31 days in July 2022, acquiring 8910 records. The datasets include six columns of different data types that represent sensor values. During the experiment, the sensors captured the data every 5 min, storing them in a comma-separated value file. The data are already validated and publicly available at PLOMS Press and can be applied for training, testing, and validating machine learning algorithms. Recent technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are essential for supporting healthcare monitoring systems, particularly for monitoring Monkeypox confirmed cases. Infected and uninfected cases around the world have contributed to a growing dataset, which is publicly available and can be used by artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict the confirmed cases of Monkeypox at an early stage. Motivated by this, we propose in this paper a new approach for accurate prediction of the Monkeypox confirmed cases based on an optimized Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep network. To fine-tune the hyper-parameters of the LSTM-based deep network, we employed the Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) optimization algorithm; thus, the proposed approach is denoted by BER-LSTM. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach when assessed using various evaluation criteria, such as Mean Bias Error, which is recorded as (0.06) using BER-LSTM. To prove the superiority of the proposed approach, six different machine learning models are included in the conducted experiments. In addition, four different optimization algorithms are considered for comparison purposes. The results of this comparison confirmed the superiority of the proposed approach. On the other hand, several statistical tests are applied to analyze the stability and significance of the proposed approach. These tests include one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Wilcoxon, and regression tests. The results of these tests emphasize the robustness, significance, and efficiency of the proposed approach. In predicting energy consumption, classic econometric and statistical models are used to forecast energy consumption. These models may have limitations in an increasingly fast-changing energy market, which requires big data analysis of energy consumption patterns and relevant variables using complex mathematical tools. In current literature, there are minimal comparison studies reviewing machine learning algorithms to predict energy consumption in Korea. To bridge this gap, this paper compared three different machine learning algorithms, namely the Random Forest (RF) model, XGBoost (XGB) model, and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. These algorithms were applied in Period 1 (prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic) and Period 2 (after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic). Period 1 was characterized by an upward trend in energy consumption, while Period 2 showed a reduction in energy consumption. LSTM performed best in its prediction power specifically in Period 1, and RF outperformed the other models in Period 2. Findings, therefore, suggested the applicability of machine learning to forecast energy consumption and also demonstrated that traditional econometric approaches may outperform machine learning when there is less unknown irregularity in the time series, but machine learning can work better with unexpected irregular time series data. In this paper, a detailed study on crime classification and prediction using deep learning architectures is presented. We examine the effectiveness of deep learning algorithms in this domain and provide recommendations for designing and training deep learning systems for predicting crime areas, using open data from police reports. Having time-series of crime types per location as training data, a comparative study of 10 state-of-the-art methods against 3 different deep learning configurations is conducted. In our experiments with 5 publicly available datasets, we demonstrate that the deep learning-based methods consistently outperform the existing best-performing methods. Moreover, we evaluate the effectiveness of different parameters in the deep learning architectures and give insights for configuring them to achieve improved performance in crime classification and finally crime prediction. Direct-drive electro-hydraulic servo valves play a key role in aerospace control systems, and their operational stability and safety reliability are crucial to the safety, stability, and efficiency of the entire control system. Based on the prediction of the performance change of the servo valve and the resulting judgement and prediction of its life, this can effectively avoid serious accidents and economic losses caused by failure due to performance degradation in the work. On the basis of existing research, factors such as opening, oil contamination, and pressure difference are used as prerequisites for the operation of direct-drive electro-hydraulic servo valves. In addition to the current research on pressure gain and leakage, the performance parameters of servo valves, such as overlap, threshold, and symmetry, are also expanded and selected as research objects, combined with pressure design servo valve performance degradation experiments for testing instruments such as flow and position sensors, and data are obtained on changes in various performance parameters. The experimental data are analyzed and a prediction model is built to predict the performance parameters of the servo valve by combining the existing popular neural networks, and the prediction error is calculated to verify the accuracy and validity of the model. The experimental results indicate that as the working time progresses, the degree of erosion and wear on the valve core and valve sleeve of the servo valve increases. Overall, it has been observed that the performance parameters of the servo valve show a slow trend of change under different working conditions, and the rate of change is generally higher under high pollution (level 9) conditions than under other conditions. The prediction results indicate that the predicted values of various performance parameters of the servo valve by the prediction model are lower than 0.2% compared to the experimental test set data. By comparing the two dimensions of the accuracy and prediction trend, this model meets industrial needs and outperforms deep learning algorithm models such as the exponential smoothing algorithm and ARIMA model. The experiments and results of this study provide theoretical support for the life prediction model of servo valves based on neural networks and machine learning in artificial intelligence, and provide a reference for the development of direct-drive electro-hydraulic servo valves in aerospace and other industrial fields for use and failure standards. The data hider embeds the encrypted additional data into the target pixels by means of homomorphic addition in ciphertexts, while the reference pixel remains unchanged. With advancements in digital technologies such as 5G communications, big data, and cloud computing, the components of network operation systems have become increasingly complex, significantly complicating system monitoring and maintenance. Correspondingly, automated log anomaly detection has become a crucial means to ensure stable network operation and protect networks from malicious attacks or failures. Conventional machine learning and deep learning methods assume consistent distributions between the training and testing data, adhering to a closed-set recognition paradigm. Nevertheless, in realistic scenarios, systems may encounter new anomalies that were not present in the training data, especially in log anomaly detection. Inspired by evidential learning, we propose a novel anomaly detector called LogEDL, which supervises the training of the model through an evidential loss function. Unlike traditional loss functions, the evidential loss function not only focuses on correct classification but also quantifies the uncertainty of predictions. This enhances the robustness and accuracy of the model in handling anomaly detection tasks while achieving functionality similar to open-set recognition. To evaluate the proposed LogEDL method, we conduct extensive experiments on three datasets, i.e., HDFS, BGL, and Thunderbird, to detect anomalous log sequences. In clinical datasets, missing data often occur due to various reasons including non-response, data corruption, and errors in data collection or processing. Such missing values can lead to biased statistical analyses, reduced statistical power, and potentially misleading findings, making effective imputation critical. Traditional imputation methods, such as Zero Imputation, Mean Imputation, and k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) Imputation, attempt to address these gaps. However, these methods often fall short of accurately capturing the underlying data complexity, leading to oversimplified assumptions and errors in prediction. This study introduces a novel Imputation model employing transformer-based architectures to address these challenges. Notably, the model distinguishes between complete EEG signal amplitude data and incomplete data in two datasets: PhysioNet and CHB-MIT. By training exclusively on complete amplitude data, the TabTransformer accurately learns and predicts missing values, capturing intricate patterns and relationships inherent in EEG amplitude data. Evaluation using various error metrics and R2 score demonstrates significant enhancements over traditional methods such as Zero, Mean, and KNN imputation. The Proposed Model achieves impressive R2 scores of 0.993 for PhysioNet and 0.97 for CHB-MIT, highlighting its efficacy in handling complex clinical data patterns and improving dataset integrity. With the recent increase in urban drift, which has led to an unprecedented surge in urban population, the smart city (SC) transportation industry faces a myriad of challenges, including the development of efficient strategies to utilize available infrastructures and minimize traffic. There is, therefore, the need to devise efficient transportation strategies to tackle the issues affecting the SC transportation industry. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art for SC transportation techniques and approaches. The paper gives a comprehensive review and discussion with a focus on emerging technologies from several information and data-driven perspectives including (1) geoinformation approaches; (2) data analytics approaches; (3) machine learning approaches; (4) integrated deep learning approaches; (5) artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. The paper contains core discussions on the impacts of geo-information on SC transportation, data-driven transportation and big data technology, machine learning approaches for SC transportation, innovative artificial intelligence (AI) approaches for SC transportation, and recent trends revealed by using integrated deep learning towards SC transportation. This survey paper aimed to give useful insights to researchers regarding the roles that data-driven approaches can be utilized for in smart cities (SCs) and transportation. An objective of this paper was to acquaint researchers with the recent trends and emerging technologies for SC transportation applications, and to give useful insights to researchers on how these technologies can be exploited for SC transportation strategies. Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly being integrated into computer-aided diagnosis systems that can be applied to improve the recognition and clinical and molecular characterization of allergic diseases, including eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). This review aims to systematically evaluate current applications of AI, machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) methods in EoE characterization and management. Methods: We conducted a systematic review using a registered protocol published in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42023451048). The risk of bias and applicability of eligible studies were assessed according to the prediction model study risk of bias assessment tool (PROBAST). We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science to retrieve the articles. The literature review was performed in May 2023. We included original research articles (retrospective or prospective studies) published in English in peer-reviewed journals, studies whose participants were patients with EoE, and studies assessing the application of AI, ML, or DL models. Results: A total of 120 articles were found. After removing 68 duplicates, 52 articles were reviewed based on the title and abstract, and 34 were excluded. Eleven full texts were assessed for eligibility, met the inclusion criteria, and were analyzed for the systematic review. The AI models developed in three studies for identifying EoE based on endoscopic images showed high score performance with an accuracy that ranged from 0.92 to 0.97. Five studies developed AI models that histologically identified EoE with high accuracy (87% to 99%). We also found two studies where the AI model identified subgroups of patients according to their clinical and molecular features. Conclusions: AI technologies could promote more accurate evidence-based management of EoE by integrating the results of molecular signature, clinical, histology, and endoscopic features. Inspections of concrete bridges across the United States represent a significant commitment of resources, given their biannual mandate for many structures. With a notable number of aging bridges, there is an imperative need to enhance the efficiency of these inspections. This study harnessed the power of computer vision to streamline the inspection process. Our experiment examined the efficacy of a state-of-the-art Visual Transformer (ViT) model combined with distinct image enhancement detector algorithms. We benchmarked against a deep learning Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. These models were applied to over 20,000 high-quality images from the Concrete Images for Classification dataset. Traditional crack detection methods often fall short due to their heavy reliance on time and resources. This research pioneers bridge inspection by integrating ViT with diverse image enhancement detectors, significantly improving concrete crack detection accuracy. Notably, a custom-built CNN achieves over 99% accuracy with substantially lower training time than ViT, making it an efficient solution for enhancing safety and resource conservation in infrastructure management. These advancements enhance safety by enabling reliable detection and timely maintenance, but they also align with Industry 4.0 objectives, automating manual inspections, reducing costs, and advancing technological integration in public infrastructure management. In 2020 and 2021, humanity lived in fear due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the development of artificial intelligence technology, mankind is attempting to tackle many challenges from currently unpredictable epidemics. Korean society has been exposed to various infectious diseases since the Korean War in 1950, and to overcome them, the six most serious cases in National Notifiable Infectious Diseases (NNIDs) category I were defined. Although most infectious diseases have been overcome, viral hepatitis A has been on the rise in Korean society since 2010. Therefore, in this paper, the prediction of viral hepatitis A, which is rapidly spreading in Korean society, was predicted by region using the deep learning technique and a publicly available dataset. For this study, we gathered information from five organizations based on the open data policy: Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA), Public Open Data Portal, and Korea Environment Corporation (KECO). Patient information, water environment information, weather information, population information, and air pollution information were acquired and correlations were identified. Next, an epidemic outbreak prediction was performed using data preprocessing and 3D LSTM. The experimental results were compared with various machine learning methods through RMSE. In this paper, we attempted to predict regional epidemic outbreaks of hepatitis A by linking the open data environment with deep learning. The rapid pace of urbanization and increasing demands for urban functionalities have led to diversification and complexity in the types of urban surface elements. The conventional approach of relying solely on remote sensing imagery for urban surface element extraction faces emerging challenges. Data-driven techniques, including deep learning and machine learning, necessitate a substantial number of annotated samples as prerequisites. In response, our study proposes a knowledge-driven approach that integrates multisource data with ontology to achieve precise urban surface element extraction. Within this framework, components from the EIONET Action Group on Land Monitoring in Europe matrix serve as ontology primitives, forming a shared vocabulary. The semantics of surface elements are deconstructed using these primitives, enabling the creation of specific descriptions for various types of urban surface elements by combining these primitives. Our approach integrates multitemporal high-resolution remote sensing data, network big data, and other heterogeneous data sources. It segments high-resolution images into individual patches, and for each unit, urban surface element classification is accomplished through semantic rule-based inference. We conducted experiments in two regions with varying levels of urban scene complexity, achieving overall accuracies of 93.03% and 97.35%, respectively. Through this knowledge-driven approach, our proposed method significantly enhances the classification performance of urban surface elements in complex scenes, even in the absence of sample data, thereby presenting a novel approach to urban surface element extraction. Central data systems require mass storage systems for big data from many fields and devices. Several technologies have been proposed to meet this demand. Holographic data storage (HDS) is at the forefront of data storage innovation and exploits the extraordinary characteristics of light to encode and retrieve two-dimensional (2D) data from holographic volume media. Nevertheless, a formidable challenge exists in the form of 2D interference that is a by-product of hologram dispersion during data retrieval and is a substantial barrier to the reliability and efficiency of HDS systems. To solve these problems, an equalizer and target are applied to HDS systems. However, in previous studies, the equalizer acted only as a linear convolution filter for the received signal. In this study, we propose a nonlinear equalizer using a convolutional neural network (CNN) for HDS systems. Using a CNN-based equalizer, the received signal can be nonlinearly converted into the desired signal with higher accuracy. Modern electrical power systems place special demands on the speed and accuracy of transient and steady-state process control. The introduction of renewable energy sources has significantly influenced the amount of inertia and uncertainty of transient processes occurring in energy systems. These changes have led to the need to clarify the existing principles for the implementation of devices for protecting power systems from the loss of small-signal and transient stability. Traditional methods of developing these devices do not provide the required adaptability due to the need to specify a list of accidents to be considered. Therefore, there is a clear need to develop fundamentally new devices for the emergency control of power system modes based on adaptive algorithms. This work proposes to develop emergency control methods based on the use of deep machine learning algorithms and obtained data from synchronized vector measurement devices. This approach makes it possible to ensure adaptability and high performance when choosing control actions. Recurrent neural networks, long short-term memory networks, restricted Boltzmann machines, and self-organizing maps were selected as deep learning algorithms. Testing was performed by using IEEE14, IEEE24, and IEEE39 power system models. Two data samples were considered: with and without data from synchronized vector measurement devices. The highest accuracy of classification of the control actions' value corresponds to the long short-term memory networks algorithm: the value of the accuracy factor was 94.31% without taking into account the data from the synchronized vector measurement devices and 94.45% when considering this data. In this article, we investigate the potential of synthetic resumes as a means for the rapid generation of training data and their effectiveness in data augmentation, especially in categories marked by sparse samples. The widespread implementation of machine learning algorithms in natural language processing (NLP) has notably streamlined the resume classification process, delivering time and cost efficiencies for hiring organizations. However, the performance of these algorithms depends on the abundance of training data. While selecting the right model architecture is essential, it is also crucial to ensure the availability of a robust, well-curated dataset. For many categories in the job market, data sparsity remains a challenge. To deal with this challenge, we employed the OpenAI API to generate both structured and unstructured resumes tailored to specific criteria. These synthetically generated resumes were cleaned, preprocessed and then utilized to train two distinct models: a transformer model (BERT) and a feedforward neural network (FFNN) that incorporated Universal Sentence Encoder 4 (USE4) embeddings. While both models were evaluated on the multiclass classification task of resumes, when trained on an augmented dataset containing 60 percent real data (from Indeed website) and 40 percent synthetic data from ChatGPT, the transformer model presented exceptional accuracy. The FFNN, albeit predictably, achieved lower accuracy. These findings highlight the value of augmented real-world data with ChatGPT-generated synthetic resumes, especially in the context of limited training data. The COVID-19 pandemic has frightened people worldwide, and coronavirus has become the most commonly used phrase in recent years. Therefore, there is a need for a systematic literature review (SLR) related to Big Data applications in the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The objective is to highlight recent technological advancements. Many studies emphasize the area of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Our study categorizes the many applications used to manage and control the pandemic. There is a very limited SLR prospective of COVID-19 with Big Data. Our SLR study picked five databases: Science direct, IEEE Xplore, Springer, ACM, and MDPI. Before the screening, following the recommendation, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) were reported for 893 studies from 2019, 2020 and until September 2021. After screening, 60 studies met the inclusion criteria through COVID-19 data statistics, and Big Data analysis was used as the search string. Our research's findings successfully dealt with COVID-19 healthcare with risk diagnosis, estimation or prevention, decision making, and drug Big Data applications problems. Estimating the intensity of tropical cyclones (TCs) is usually involved as a critical step in studies on TC disaster warnings and prediction. Satellite cloud images (SCIs) are one of the most effective and preferable data sources for TC research. Despite the great achievements in various SCI-based studies, accurate and efficient estimation of TC intensity still remains a challenge. In recent years, machine learning (ML) techniques have gained fast development and shown significant potential in dealing with big data, particularly with images. This study focuses on the objective estimation of TC intensity based on SCIs via a comprehensive usage of some advanced deep learning (DL) techniques and smoothing methods. Two estimation strategies are proposed and examined which, respectively, involve one and two functional stages. The one-stage strategy uses Vision Transformer (ViT) or Deep Convolutional Neutral Network (DCNN) as the regression model for directly identifying TC intensity, while the second strategy involves a classification stage that aims to stratify SCI samples into a few intensity groups and a subsequent regression stage that specifies the TC intensity. Further efforts are made to improve the estimation accuracy by using smoothing manipulations (via four specific smoothing techniques) in the scenarios of the aforementioned two strategies and their fusion. Results show that DCNN performs better than ViT in the one-stage strategy, while using ViT as the classification model and DCNN as the regression model can result in the best performance in the two-stage strategy. It is interesting that although the strategy of singly using DCNN wins out over any concerned two-stage strategy, the fusion of the two strategies outperforms either the one-stage strategy or the two-stage strategy. Results also suggest that using smoothing techniques are beneficial for the improvement of estimation accuracy. Overall, the best performance is achieved by using a hybrid strategy that consists of the one-stage strategy, the two-stage strategy and smoothing manipulation. The construction industry plays a vital role in the urbanization process and global economy, and there is a growing interest in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve sustainability, productivity, and efficiency. However, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis regarding the progression of AI in the construction context, particularly from the sustainability angle. This study aims to fill this gap by conducting a scientometric analysis of AI research in construction by focusing on historical clusters, emerging trends, research clusters, and the correlation between sustainability pillars and key project stages. A Scopus search, between January 2000 and July 2023, was conducted that used 25 construction industry-related keywords, resulting in a total of 9564 publications. After evaluating practical AI applications in construction, 3710 publications were selected for further analysis using VOSviewer for visual diagrams and to further understand connections and patterns between literature. The findings revealed that: (a) Literature on AI in construction has experienced steady growth over the past two decades; (b) Machine learning, deep learning, and big data are seen as the key enabling digital technologies in the construction sector's performance; (c) Economic and governance pillars of sustainability exhibit the highest potential for AI adoption; (d) Design and construction phases demonstrate substantial advantages for AI adoption; (e) AI technologies have become, despite adoption challenges, a strong driver of construction industry modernization, and; (f) By incorporating AI, the construction industry can advance towards a more sustainable future by consolidating its processes and practices. Artificial Intelligence (AI) describes computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. Examples of AI techniques are machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning. AI can be applied in many different areas, such as econometrics, biometry, e-commerce, and the automotive industry. In recent years, AI has found its way into healthcare as well, helping doctors make better decisions ("clinical decision support"), localizing tumors in magnetic resonance images, reading and analyzing reports written by radiologists and pathologists, and much more. However, AI has one big risk: it can be perceived as a "black box", limiting trust in its reliability, which is a very big issue in an area in which a decision can mean life or death. As a result, the term Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) has been gaining momentum. XAI tries to ensure that AI algorithms (and the resulting decisions) can be understood by humans. In this narrative review, we will have a look at some central concepts in XAI, describe several challenges around XAI in healthcare, and discuss whether it can really help healthcare to advance, for example, by increasing understanding and trust. In today's big data era, cleaning big data streams has become a challenging task because of the different formats of big data and the massive amount of big data which is being generated. Many studies have proposed different techniques to overcome these challenges, such as cleaning big data in real time. This systematic literature review presents recently developed techniques that have been used for the cleaning process and for each data cleaning issue. Following the PRISMA framework, four databases are searched, namely IEEE Xplore, ACM Library, Scopus, and Science Direct, to select relevant studies. After selecting the relevant studies, we identify the techniques that have been utilized to clean big data streams and the evaluation methods that have been used to examine their efficiency. Also, we define the cleaning issues that may appear during the cleaning process, namely missing values, duplicated data, outliers, and irrelevant data. Sensor monitoring networks and advances in big data analytics have guided the reliability engineering landscape to a new era of big machinery data. Low-cost sensors, along with the evolution of the internet of things and industry 4.0, have resulted in rich databases that can be analyzed through prognostics and health management (PHM) frameworks. Several data-driven models (DDMs) have been proposed and applied for diagnostics and prognostics purposes in complex systems. However, many of these models are developed using simulated or experimental data sets, and there is still a knowledge gap for applications in real operating systems. Furthermore, little attention has been given to the required data preprocessing steps compared to the training processes of these DDMs. Up to date, research works do not follow a formal and consistent data preprocessing guideline for PHM applications. This paper presents a comprehensive step-by-step pipeline for the preprocessing of monitoring data from complex systems aimed for DDMs. The importance of expert knowledge is discussed in the context of data selection and label generation. From ordering food online to gene editing-based personalized healthcare, disruptive technologies like ML and AI continue to grow beyond our wildest dreams. Early detection and treatment through AI-assisted diagnostic models have outperformed human intelligence. In many cases, these tools can act upon the structured data containing probable symptoms, offer medication schedules based on the appropriate code related to diagnosis conventions, and predict adverse drug effects, if any, in accordance with medications. Utilizing AI and IoT in healthcare has facilitated innumerable benefits like minimizing cost, reducing hospital-obtained infections, decreasing mortality and morbidity etc. DL algorithms have opened up several frontiers by contributing towards healthcare opportunities through their ability to understand and learn from different levels of demonstration and generalization, which is significant in data analysis and interpretation. In contrast to ML which relies more on structured, labeled data and domain expertise to facilitate feature extractions, DL employs human-like cognitive abilities to extract hidden relationships and patterns from uncategorized data. Through the efficient application of DL techniques on the medical dataset, precise prediction, and classification of infectious/rare diseases, avoiding surgeries that can be preventable, minimization of over-dosage of harmful contrast agents for scans and biopsies can be reduced to a greater extent in future. Our study is focused on deploying ensemble deep learning algorithms and IoT devices to design and develop a diagnostic model that can effectively analyze medical Big Data and diagnose diseases by identifying abnormalities in early stages through medical images provided as input. In this study, basic research was conducted regarding the era of autonomous vessels and artificial intelligence (deep learning, big data, etc.). When a vessel is navigating autonomously, it must determine the optimal route by itself and accurately follow the designated route using route-following control technology. First, the optimal route should be generated in a manner that ensures safety and reduces fuel consumption by the vessel. To satisfy safety requirements, sea depth, under-keel clearance, and navigation charts are used; algorithms capable of determining and shortening the distance of travel and removing unnecessary waypoints are used to satisfy the requirements for reducing fuel consumption. In this study, a reinforcement-learning algorithm-based machine learning technique was used to generate an optimal route while satisfying these two sets of requirements. Second, when an optimal route is generated, the vessel must have a route-following controller that can accurately follow the set route without deviation. To accurately follow the route, a velocity-type fuzzy proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller was established. This controller can prevent deviation from the route because overshoot rarely occurs, compared with a proportional derivative (PD) controller. Additionally, because the change in rudder angle is smooth, energy loss by the vessel can be reduced. Here, a method for determining the presence of environmental disturbance using the characteristics of the Kalman filter innovation process and estimating environmental disturbance with a fuzzy disturbance estimator is presented, which allows the route to be accurately maintained even under conditions involving environmental disturbance. The proposed approach can automatically set the vessel's optimal route and accurately follow the route without human intervention, which is useful and can contribute to maritime safety and efficiency improvement. Recommender systems appear with increasing frequency with different techniques for information filtering. Few large wine datasets are available for use with wine recommender systems. This work presents X-Wines, a new and consistent wine dataset containing 100,000 instances and 21 million real evaluations carried out by users. Data were collected on the open Web in 2022 and pre-processed for wider free use. They refer to the scale 1–5 ratings carried out over a period of 10 years (2012–2021) for wines produced in 62 different countries. Incredible progress has been achieved in making combined health records available to data scientists and clinicians for healthcare research. However, big data in health cloud informatics demand more robust and scalable solutions to accurately analyze it. The increasing number of patients is putting high pressure on healthcare services worldwide. At this stage, fast, accurate, and early clinical assessment of the disease severity is vital. Predicting mortality among patients with a variety of symptoms and complications is difficult, resulting inaccurate and slow prediction of the disease. This article presents a deep learning based model for the prediction of patient mortality using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) dataset. Different parameters are used to analyze the proposed model, i.e., accuracy, F1 score, recall, precision, and execution time. The results obtained are compared with state-of-the-art models to test and validate the proposed model. Moreover, this research suggests a simple and operable decision rule to quickly predict patients at the highest risk, allowing them to be prioritized and potentially reducing the mortality rate. It can occur when the body does not produce enough insulin or when cells become resistant to insulin's effects. There are two main types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2, which have different causes and risk factors. Early detection of diabetes allows for early intervention and management of the condition. This can help prevent or delay the development of serious complications associated with diabetes. Early diagnosis also allows for individuals to make lifestyle changes to prevent the progression of the disease. Healthcare systems play a vital role in the management and treatment of diabetes. They provide access to diabetes education, regular check-ups, and necessary medications for individuals with diabetes. They also provide monitoring and management of diabetes-related complications, such as heart disease, kidney failure, and neuropathy. Through early detection, prevention and management programs, healthcare systems can help improve the quality of life and outcomes for people with diabetes. Current initiatives in healthcare systems for diabetes may fail due to lack of access to education and resources for individuals with diabetes. There may also be inadequate follow-up and monitoring for those who have been diagnosed, leading to poor management of the disease and lack of prevention of complications. Additionally, current initiatives may not be tailored to specific cultural or demographic groups, resulting in a lack of effectiveness for certain populations. In this study, we developed a diabetes prediction system using a healthcare framework. The system employs various machine learning methods, such as K-nearest neighbors, decision tree, deep learning, SVM, random forest, AdaBoost and logistic regression. The combination of an offshore wind turbine and a wave energy converter on an integrated platform is an economical solution for the electrical power demand in coastal countries. Due to the expensive installation cost, a prediction should be used to investigate whether the location is suitable for these sites. For this purpose, this research presents the feasibility of installing a combined hybrid site in the desired coastal location by predicting the net produced power due to the environmental parameters. For combining these two systems, an optimized array includes ten turbines and ten wave energy converters. The mathematical equations of the net force on the two introduced systems and the produced power of the wind turbines are proposed. The turbines' maximum forces are 4 kN, and for the wave energy converters are 6 kN, respectively. Furthermore, the comparison is conducted in order to find the optimum system. The comparison shows that the most effective system of desired environmental condition is introduced. A number of machine learning and deep learning methods are used to predict key parameters after collecting the dataset. Moreover, a comparative analysis is conducted to find a suitable model. Distribution transformers are an integral part of the power distribution system network and emerging smart grids. With the increasing dynamic service requirements of consumers, there is a higher likelihood of transformer failures due to overloading, feeder line faults, and ineffective cooling. As a consequence, their general longevity has been diminished, and the maintenance efforts of utility providers prove inadequate in efficiently monitoring and detecting transformer conditions. Existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) metering points are sparsely allocated in the network, making fault detection in feeder lines limited. To address these issues, this work proposes an IoT system for real-time distribution transformer load monitoring and anomaly detection. The monitoring system consists of a low-cost IoT gateway and sensor module which collects a three-phase load current profile, and oil levels/temperature from a distributed transformer network, specifically at the feeder side. The data are communicated through the publish/subscribe paradigm to a cloud IoT pipeline and stored in a cloud database after processing. An anomaly detection algorithm in the form of Isolation Forest is implemented to intelligently detect likely faults within a time window of 24 h prior. A mobile application was implemented to interact with the cloud database, visualize the real-time conditions of the transformers, and track them geographically. We are currently living in the era of big data. The volume of collected or archived geospatial data for land use and land cover (LULC) mapping including remotely sensed satellite imagery and auxiliary geospatial datasets is increasing. Innovative machine learning, deep learning algorithms, and cutting-edge cloud computing have also recently been developed. While new opportunities are provided by these geospatial big data and advanced computer technologies for LULC mapping, challenges also emerge for LULC mapping from using these geospatial big data. This article summarizes the review studies and research progress in remote sensing, machine learning, deep learning, and geospatial big data for LULC mapping since 2015. We identified the opportunities, challenges, and future directions of using geospatial big data for LULC mapping. More research needs to be performed for improved LULC mapping at large scales. The convolutional neural network (CNN) has become a powerful tool in machine learning (ML) that is used to solve complex problems such as image recognition, natural language processing, and video analysis. Notably, the idea of exploring convolutional neural network architecture has gained substantial attention as well as popularity. This study focuses on the intrinsic various CNN architectures: LeNet, AlexNet, VGG16, ResNet-50, and Inception-V1, which have been scrutinized and compared with each other for the detection of lung cancer using publicly available LUNA16 datasets. Furthermore, multiple performance optimizers: root mean square propagation (RMSProp), adaptive moment estimation (Adam), and stochastic gradient descent (SGD), were applied for this comparative study. The performances of the three CNN architectures were measured for accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, false omission rate, negative predictive value, and F1 score. The experimental results showed that the CNN AlexNet architecture with the SGD optimizer achieved the highest validation accuracy for CT lung cancer with an accuracy of 97.42%, misclassification rate of 2.58%, 97.58% sensitivity, 97.25% specificity, 97.58% positive predictive value, 97.25% negative predictive value, false omission rate of 2.75%, and F1 score of 97.58%. Recent studies have witnessed remarkable merits of metaheuristic algorithms in optimization problems. Due to the significance of the early analysis of the thermal load in energy-efficient buildings, this work introduces and compares four novel optimizer techniques—the firefly algorithm (FA), optics-inspired optimization (OIO), shuffled complex evolution (SCE), and teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO)—for an accurate prediction of the heating load (HL). The models are applied to a multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network to surmount its computational shortcomings. The models are fed by a literature-based dataset obtained for residential buildings. The results revealed that all models used are capable of properly analyzing and predicting the HL pattern. A comparison between them, however, showed that the TLBO-MLP with the coefficients of determination 0.9610 vs. 0.9438, 0.9373, and 0.9556 (respectively, for FA-MLP, OIO-MLP, and SCE-MLP) and the root mean square error of 2.1103 vs. 2.5456, 2.7099, and 2.2774 presents the most reliable approximation of the HL. This study aims to give an insight into the development trends and patterns of social organizations (SOs) in China from the perspective of network science integrating geography and public policy information embedded in the network structure. Firstly, we constructed a first-of-its-kind database which encompasses almost all social organizations established in China throughout the past decade. Secondly, we proposed four basic structures to represent the homogeneous and heterogeneous networks between social organizations and related social entities, such as government administrations and community members. Then, we pioneered the application of graph models to the field of organizations and embedded the Organizational Geosocial Network (OGN) into a low-dimensional representation of the social entities and relations while preserving their semantic meaning. Finally, we applied advanced graph deep learning methods, such as graph attention networks (GAT) and graph convolutional networks (GCN), to perform exploratory classification tasks by training models with county-level OGNs dataset and make predictions of which geographic region the county-level OGN belongs to. The experiment proves that different regions possess a variety of development patterns and economic structures where local social organizations are embedded, thus forming differential OGN structures, which can be sensed by graph machine learning algorithms and make relatively accurate predictions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first application of graph deep learning to the construction and representation learning of geosocial network models of social organizations, which has certain reference significance for research in related fields. In the living cells, proteins bind small molecules (or "ligands") through a "conformational selection" mechanism, where a subset of protein structures are capable of binding the small molecules well while most other protein structures are not capable of such binding. The present work uses machine learning approaches to identify, in a very large amount of protein:ligand complexes, what protein properties are associated with their capacity to bind small molecules. In order to do so, we calculate 40 physicochemical properties on about 1.5 millions of protein conformations: ligand and protein conformations. This work describes a machine learning approach to identify the unique physico-chemical descriptors of a protein that maximize the prediction rate of potential protein molecular conformations for the test case proteins ADORA2A (Adenosine A2a Receptor), ADRB2 (Adrenoceptor Beta 2) and OPRK1 (Opioid Receptor Kappa 1). We find adequate machine learning techniques can increase by an order of magnitude the identification of "binding protein conformations" in an otherwise very large ensemble of protein conformations, compared to random selection of protein conformations. This opens the door to the systematic identification of such "binding conformations" for proteins and provides a big data approach to the conformational selection mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
