As Information Retrieval (IR) researchers, we not only develop algorithmic solutions to hard problems, but we also insist on a proper, multifaceted evaluation of ideas. The IR literature on the fundamental topic of retrieval and ranking, for instance, has a rich history of studying the effectiveness of indexes, retrieval algorithms, and complex machine learning rankers and, at the same time, quantifying their computational costs, from creation and training to application and inference. This is evidenced, for example, by more than a decade of research on efficient training and inference of large decision forest models in Learning to Rank (LtR). As we move towards even more complex, deep learning models in a wide range of applications, questions on efficiency have once again become relevant with renewed urgency. Indeed, efficiency is no longer limited to time- and space-efficiency; instead it has found new, challenging dimensions that stretch to resource-, sample- and energy-efficiency with ramifications for researchers, users, and the environment. As a step towards bringing together experts from industry and academia and creating a forum for a critical discussion and the promotion of efficiency in the era of Neural Information Retrieval (NIR), we held the ReNeuIR workshop on July 15th, 2022 as a hybrid event---in person in Madrid, Spain along with online attendees---in conjunction with ACM SIGIR 2022. Recognizing the importance of this topic, approximately 80 participants answered our call and attended the workshop over three sessions. The event included a total of two keynotes and eight paper presentations, and concluded with a lively discussion where participants helped identify gaps in existing research and brainstormed future research directions. We had consensus in recognizing that efficiency is not simply latency, that a holistic, concrete definition of efficiency is needed to guide researchers and reviewers alike, and that more research is necessary in the development of efficiency-centered evaluation metrics and standard benchmark datasets, platforms, and tools. Dear IR community, It is happening again. Conferences that were planning to host in-person events in the first half of 2022 are switching to fully virtual events. WSDM 2022 is the latest to do so, following CHIIR 2022 which made the switch in December. While this is disappointing for all of us that were hoping to travel again, and especially heartbreaking for the conference organizers, it is clearly the right thing to do given lockdowns and travel restrictions being reinstated in countries around the world. The cornerstone of the Fourth Amendment is the principle that "Every man's house is his castle" free from the prying eyes of the government. (Constitution Annotated: Analysis and Interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, Amdt4.1 Fourth Amendment: Historical Background). Birthed from the infamous English case, Entick v. Carrington, coupled with the colonists' experiences with "general" warrants, the Fourth Amendment was established to limit government intrusions to specific instances. To stay true to this principle while interpreting the Fourth Amendment, the Supreme Court continues to balance the needs of law enforcement in the administration of their day-to-day duties all while trying to protect "[t]he right[s] of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects." This balance has led the Court to be less inclined to create categorical rules when applying the Fourth Amendment, but rather, to analyze each matter on a case-by-case basis. At times, this has led to perplexing analysis as the Court decides whether to honor stare decisis or distinguish a case based on minutiae found in prior cases (as shown in this term in Torres v. Madrid). However, likely trying to uphold these principles, this term, we saw the Court focus on upholding the privacy rights of individuals in cases such as Torres v. Madrid, Lange v. An intelligent thrust reverse noise detector is presented in this paper (TREND). A first detector is customized for the detection of landing sound events. When one of those events is detected, a second detector is triggered to detect thrust reverse. In the case that both events are detected, each of them have to be classified in two separate block. If the first events is classified as landing, and the second one as thrust reverse, the system identifies the activation of thrust reverse. The detection is based on thresholds applied to the sound power level (instead of sound pressure level in the traditional approaches) time histories, which are estimated using a microphone array and an inverse sound propagation model. This approach has worked well, as the estimation of sound power level enhances the sound events and their separation, even if landing and thrust reverse are close to each other. The classification is implemented through pattern recognition techniques, which reduces the number of false positive in the detection stages.
