The high-quality development of new energy enterprises is of great significance to promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality and cope with the global warming crisis. However, with the increasing intensity of market competition and the appropriate weakening of the expected future subsidies, how to improve their performance through the fulfillment of the social responsibility of stakeholders has become a key scientific problem to be solved. Given the features of the new energy industry, including substantial initial investment, formidable technical barriers, and a pronounced reliance on policy support, this paper takes 182 new energy concept enterprises listed in China's A-shares in 2011–2020 as the research object. Employing qualitative comparative analysis, we extract four key rules for achieving high performance in new energy enterprises from the perspective of value co-creation of core stakeholders, including capital stakeholders (shareholders and creditors), technical stakeholders (employees), policy stakeholders (government and society), and upstream and downstream stakeholders (suppliers and customers). Then, we explore the performance improvement rules of typical cases. Our findings reveal that within the realm of new energy enterprises, capital-intensive enterprises with cost leadership and tax incentives, energy-manufacturing enterprises with suppliers dependence and saving environmental input, technology-innovation enterprises with cost leadership and talents dependence, and comprehensive-mature enterprises with suppliers dependence and tax incentives are more likely to achieve high performance. China's fast growing economy is inducing various technology dynamics. Much attention and resources are being paid to new energy technologies in China. These eight selected papers are a collection of academic studies on modeling and policy analysis of the diffusion of new energy technologies in China. This paper applies the hybrid meta-frontier data envelopment analysis model to estimate the energy efficiency of the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions in China as well as all Chinese provinces during 2003-2012. We further compare the energy efficiency under the regional frontier and the meta-frontier for different provinces and then examine the convergence situation among these four regions in China as well as the national energy efficiency. The results show the evidence of big gaps in the energy efficiency between the provinces under both the regional frontier and the national meta-frontier. In general, the highest energy efficiency lies in eastern China, followed by western China and then northeastern China, with the lowest in central China. Using the technology gap ratio, the findings present that eastern China achieves the national potential optimized production technology, whereas the central, western, and northeastern regions are still some distance away from their own national potential optimized production technology with considerable room for improvement. As for the variation trends of energy efficiency, those of the central and northeastern regions have a convergence tendency, whereas the energy efficiencies of eastern and western China show the characteristics of slight divergence. Moreover, the convergence tendency of energy efficiency for the whole country has not yet been formed. Although China is doing much on developing alternative energies, coal will still be the main energy resource for China in the near to medium term. Developing a green coal-electricity system in China is very important for reduction of carbon emissions and local air pollutants, while satisfying China's rapidly growing electricity demand. This paper first reviews the advancement in optimization models with endogenous technological change and spatial energy systems modeling. Then, present situation and technology strategy of coal-electricity industry in China are analyzed. Three interweaved issues are identified for the development of China's green coal-electricity system. It can be concluded that the future integration of spatial data with MESSAGE model is vital for the analysis of China's coal-electricity system. It will be helpful to study optimal spatial configuration and technology development strategies for the development of a green coal-electricity system in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heavy metals contamination resulting from fossil fuel combustion among other sources has been become a focus of the community of nations. New detection methods can help to manage this growing concern. In 2008, Dr. Zang and his colleagues succeeded in building a fluorescent sensor based on a perylene modification with two thymine moieties to successfully detect mercury in water. Through the sub-national EcoPartnership program sponsored by the U.S. and China, the development of this technology has been advanced and is now ready for demonstration as a real time, in situ testing procedure. The Utah-Qinghai EcoPartnership is also helping to facilitate commercialization of new technologies through the coordination of government entities, local universities, and commercial partners. Adapting new technology for deployment in China depends on understanding the specific roles of all these partners. Dr. Dingman offers an instructive insight on new technology implementation based on his years of involvement with Chinese government agencies and research institutions.
