This paper explores the possible effect of combining signaling with pacing. The researchers used the Gazepoint eye tracker to track the eye movements of the respondents and OGAMA to analyze and store necessary parameters used for this study. This paper considered 24 respondents divided into two groups – one exposed to a stimulus applied with signaling and the other with a stimulus applied with signaling and pacing. Each stimulus contained a brief history of Poland which was chosen by the researchers to avoid possible bias to the data when the stimulus is a learning material that inherently requires a greater cognitive load to understand. The result of this paper shows that the number of fixation and fixation duration has a positive relationship to the comprehension test result. Further, it also shows that the post test scores, the number of fixation and the fixation duration of the student exposed to stimuli with signaling alone differs significantly to the comprehension test result, the number of fixation, and fixation duration of the student exposed to stimuli with signaling and pacing. Abstract: Using participatory scenario-making has become increasingly common in environmental assessments that aim for policy impact. In this development, ‘social work’ – i.e., construction and usage of the scenarios – has received only a little analytical interest. In this paper, we contribute to filling this gap of knowledge by focusing on the construction of scenarios and asking what kind of policy relevant knowledge these kinds of participatory experiments can provide for the resolution of environmental problems. We draw on experiences gained from a SCENES scenario-making experiment wherein a comprehensive set of scenarios for the future management of European freshwater resources was developed in a highly participatory manner. The SCENES work aimed at providing policy-relevant knowledge for implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). In this paper, we analyse and compare how issues were formulated and articulated as public concerns during the scenario-making process for the Narew River Basin, in Poland, and Lake Peipsi, in Estonia. The empirical narratives highlight that scenario-making assisted in articulation of the critical entanglements between the water systems and regional socio economic development. The implementation of the WFD has been largely unable to address these issues. In this sense, SCENES engaged in the articulation of public concerns. In SCENES there was, however, a latent tension in seeing scenario-making as either informing or forming social choices for water management. The epistemic principle of informing guided many of the methodological choices made during SCENES, whilst attempts aimed at issue formation characterised the panellists’ way of developing scenarios. Abstract: A review of results of the research involving the quantitative and composition analyses of household waste conducted in Poland in recent years is presented in this paper. For these analyses various methodologies have been employed, as there is not one obligatory methodology how to characterise municipal solid waste. The results of the research in large Polish cities indicate great variability, which is difficult to be reasonably explained. This situation is affected by a number of factors, such as various methods and places for sample collection, various methods for tests, fractional character of most of the studies (studies carried out only in some periods during a year). Consequently, it is neither possible to measurably compare their results, nor to generalise them. Hence, within this article only individual data for large cities is provided. It is therefore necessary to standardise methodology for such analyses in Europe, taking into account local variability (such as different housing patterns, climate and waste collection schemes) to allow comparison of results. Reported yearly household waste generation in Polish cities varies from 238 to 309kg per inhabitant. Biodegradable waste is a strongly dominated fraction in household waste from Polish cities, followed by paper/cardboard and plastics. Historical data shows that waste composition has undergone profound changes, the most significant being an increase of the share of plastics and decrease of fine fraction. The presented data indicates that waste composition strongly depends on the type of housing and its heating system. In the new multi-family buildings with central heating the share of paper and plastics is higher than in old houses with individual heating. In the latter ones the share of fine fraction is higher. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a comparative analysis of the application of the critical chain project management and traditional scheduling established according to the critical path method for the programme of the construction of several marinas in north-western Poland. Obtained results are of a significant importance as their possible application by building contractors or investors. • Pregnancy-related knowledge in women with epilepsy generally improved over 16 years. • This improvement was most evident in preconception use of folic acid. • Knowledge on delivery modes, breastfeeding, and oral contraception remains still poor. • Better educated women from larger cities and with no pension had better knowledge. • Generalized tonic-clonic seizure frequency was negatively correlated with knowledge. Studies across countries and time periods have demonstrated insufficient pregnancy-related knowledge in women with epilepsy (WWE) of childbearing age. To assess the current state of such knowledge as well as the relevant time-related changes over 16 years in Poland, we conducted a study of WWE using a questionnaire developed in 2003. The participants were 656 WWE of childbearing age who completed online and paper-based questionnaires. The results were compared with those obtained in 2003. Overall, pregnancy-related knowledge improved significantly over 16 years. This improved knowledge was most evident in preconception use of folic acid and breastfeeding. However, even now, less than 40% of WWE believe that breastfeeding is possible in most cases. In 2019, pregnancy-related knowledge was positively correlated with participants' educational level and hometown size and negatively correlated with the frequency of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Women completing the online survey had better knowledge than those who completed the paper-based survey. Indications for cesarean section, the possibility of using oral contraception and breastfeeding are the areas where knowledge in WWE remains inadequate, necessitating targeted educational activities. Background: The study aimed to elucidate previously observed associations between morningness-eveningness and depressive symptomatology in university students. Relations between components of depressive symptomatology and morningness-eveningness were analysed.Methods: Nine hundred and seventy-four university students completed Polish versions of the Centre for Epidemiological Studies - Depression scale (CES-D; Polish translation appended to this paper) and the Composite Scale of Morningness. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to test the structure of depressive symptoms. Pearson and partial correlations (with age and sex controlled), along with regression analyses with morning affect (MA) and circadian preference as predictors, were used.Results: PCA revealed three components of depressive symptoms: depressed/somatic affect, positive affect, interpersonal relations. Greater MA was related to less depressive symptoms in three components. Morning circadian preference was related to less depressive symptoms in depressed/somatic and positive affects and unrelated to interpersonal relations. Both morningness-eveningness components exhibited stronger links with depressed/somatic and positive affects than with interpersonal relations. Three CES-D components exhibited stronger links with MA than with circadian preference. In regression analyses only MA was statistically significant for positive affect and better interpersonal relations, whereas more depressed/somatic affect was predicted by lower MA and morning circadian preference (relationship reversed compared to correlations).Limitations: Self-report assessment.Conclusions: There are three groups of depressive symptoms in Polish university students. Associations of MA with depressed/somatic and positive affects are primarily responsible for the observed links between morningness-eveningness and depressive symptoms in university students. The paper presents real estate management as a system and specifies all its constituent parts. It contains a comparison of good governance principles and chosen procedures as well as their execution in different countries. The analysed systems were divided into two groups by cluster analysis. Afterwards, an analysis of the management systems in the chosen countries was performed. On the basis of the above analysis, the condition of the Polish public real estate management system was characterised in comparison to the other systems. Some changes in the system were suggested in line with the good governance concept (openness, participation, accountability, effectiveness, coherence). Cross linguistic variation in L1 clitic acquisition is limited and well-governed, and has been attributed to an underlying syntactic mechanism, such as the Unique Checking Constraint (UCC) in connection with clitic-past participle agreement ( Wexler et al., 2003 ), or a pragmatic constraint, such as Failed Referentiality ( Schaeffer, 2000 ). The present study seeks to validate the claims following from the above theories by looking at the clitic acquisition facts in child Polish in two experiments: clitic production and clitic comprehension. The paper argues that claims following from the two acquisition theories are not supported by Polish L1 data due to an initially high clitic omission rate (60%) and the evidence of early clitic comprehension which precedes clitic production. By comparing clitic production and clitic comprehension results, three developmental stages are identified. The accession of Poland and nine other countries into the structures of the European Union in May 2004 resulted in their airspaces being covered by the Open Skies agreement. Deregulation and the entry of low cost carriers into these markets contributed to a dynamic growth in air traffic, which most strongly influenced the operations and development of regional airports. In order to determine the impact of EU accession and the Open Skies agreement on the productivity of airports, the performance of four Polish regional airports was analysed and compared during the periods 2000–2004 and 2005–2010, using the two-stage PCA–DEA method. The aim of this paper is also an attempt to address adequate variables for the two-stage DEA. The reference group comprised 11 German airports, which represented a similar but mature market. Poland, with its large drainage area, with 50% contribution of agricultural land and 45% contribution of population to overall agricultural land area and population number in the Baltic catchment, is the largest exporter of riverine nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) to the sea. The economic transition has resulted in substantial, statistically significant decline in N, P export from Polish territory to the Baltic Sea. Following the obligations arising from the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) declarations, in the coming years, Poland is expected to reduce riverine N loads by ca. 25% and P loads by ca. 60% as referred to the average flow normalized loads recorded in 1997-2003. The aim of this paper is to estimate annual source apportioned N and P emissions into these river basins in 2015 and 2020 with application of modeling studies (MONERIS). Twelve scenarios, encompassing changes in anthropogenic (diffuse, point source) and natural pressure (precipitation, water outflow due to climate change), have been applied. Modeling outcome for the period 2003-2008 served as our reference material. In applied scenarios, N emission into the Oder basin in 2015 and 2020 shows an increase from 4.2% up to 9.1% as compared with the reference period. N emission into the Vistula basin is more variable and shows an increase by max. 17.8% or a decrease by max. 4.7%, depending on the scenario. The difference between N emission into the Oder and Vistula basins is related to the catchment peculiarities and handling of point sources emission. P emission into both basins shows identical scenario patters and a maximum decrease reaches 17.8% in the Oder and 16.7% in the Vistula basin. • SfM and TLS point clouds can be used for 3D modelling of heritage sites. • TLS point clouds are more accurate than SfM point clouds. • 3D vector models are more versatile than 3D mesh models for heritage documentation. • 3D vector models should be combined with elements of 3D mesh models. • Any point cloud can be a base for a 3D reality mesh model. Technological development of remote sensing and computer graphic techniques resulted in various methods of documenting heritage sites. This paper presents validation of point clouds produced using different measurement techniques: SfM (based on images taken with a hand-held digital camera and from a UAV) and TLS and its products – a textured 3D vector model and a reality mesh. The study area is the ruins of the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel in Zagórz, Poland. The obtained results allowed for formulating general conclusions regarding the usage of particular methods for documenting heritage sites, achievable measurement accuracies and data quality. Possible further applications of produced models in VR and BIM were discussed. Based on the analyses, the research also proposes workflow for inventory of heritage sites, which may become useful during documentation surveys and modelling planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Despite the emphasis given in the EU''s Common Agricultural Policy to the local economic benefits of a maintaining a strong agricultural sector, relatively little research has focused on the interactions between farm households and their local economies. The paper presents findings from an analysis of the direct economic transactions of farm households drawn from two EU case study areas, one a transition economy with an underdeveloped agricultural sector (Podlaskie, Poland), the other a mature economy with a highly developed agricultural sector (North East Scotland, UK). The results confirm that the contribution of farm households to their immediate surrounding locality is highly context-specific and depends upon both demand and supply-side factors. With the exception of off-farm work, farm households within North East Scotland study have more distant and spatially concentrated agricultural transactions due to the consolidation of upstream and downstream agri-businesses in the region. In contrast, transactions in Podlaskie take place far closer to the farm holding and are more spatially dispersed. The rural development and policy implications of the findings are discussed. Abstract: This paper presents a fresh examination of a pollen profile from Ustków (central Poland), which after preliminary results was thought to span a period between the Early Eemian (MIS 5e) and the upper Pleni-Weichselian (MIS 3). The newly obtained results confirmed the age assessment of the bottom series, but revealed a much older age for the uppermost part of the profile as far back as the Rederstall stadial (MIS 5b). Palynological research showed slightly different patterns of vegetation in comparison to other sites located in Central Europe. Among them were an early Ulmus maximum coinciding with the Betula optimum in the Early Eemian, a relatively late optimum of Taxus baccata during the decline of the Middle Eemian, and a distinct division of the older part of the Late Eemian into phases of Abies-Picea and Picea-Pinus forest domination. The Herning stadial (MIS 5d) falls into a typical bipartition reflected by heathland domination during its older part and the prevalence of Juniperus thickets and Artemisia-Poaceae steppe during its younger part, which makes this succession similar to those from northern Germany. The pollen spectra reflecting the Brørup interstadial (MIS 5c) distinctly revealed an intra-Brørup cold oscillation rarely detected in profiles from Central Europe and a period of Larix dominated forests during the latest part of the interstadial (extraordinarily high percentages exceeding 15% of the total pollen sum). Local pollen taxa, together with the lithological composition of deposits, revealed that there was a water body in the area during the periods of the Late Saalian/Early Eemian transition–Middle Eemian (the decline of the Tilia phase), the Herning stadial (MIS 5d), the early Brørup interstadial (MIS 5c), and the Rederstall stadial (MIS 5b). Abstract: Geothermal resources in Poland are of growing importance for the production of renewable energy. The total installed geothermal capacity (including heat pumps) at the end of 2008 was ca. 281MWt, while heat sales about 1501TJ. Poland is characterised by low-temperature geothermal resources connected mostly with the Mesozoic sedimentary formations. In the paper the estimation of thermodynamic potential of Polish geothermal fields in comparison with selected global resources was presented. Geothermal resources were classified with reference to their specific exergy and specific exergy index (SEI). These indices define the quality of the energy content of a geothermal fluid better than conventional temperature criterions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The paper presents not only the comparative analysis of the three standards (German, Danish and American) commonly used in Poland for the design of resin liners, but also the chosen problems involved with the design. The attached examples of calculations give a chance to investigate the influence of noticed differences in basic assumptions on the final results including the minimum, acceptable wall thickness of the linings used for trenchless renovation of gravitational sewers. Abstract: Although, at the time of accession to the EU, organic farming policies formally were equally developed in the Czech Republic and Poland, a closer investigation reveals some variation. This paper takes a policy network perspective to explore the policy differences between these two countries. Common network themes are used to link networks with policy output. It is argued that the capacity of the organic sector and its structural organization, its cohesion, and the relationship between organic interest groups and the government affect the political discourse, and, in consequence, how organic farming policy is elaborated. Abstract: Alveolar echinococcosis is a serious zoonosis caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus multilocularis. Pigs, as humans, can play the role of non-specific intermediate hosts of this parasite. Detection of E. multilocularis in swine can be taken as an indicator of infection risk for humans. This paper presents the first cases where E. multilocularis larval forms have been detected in pigs in Poland. A total of 256 pig livers with different lesions were collected from slaughterhouses in southern Poland and examined by nested PCR method. Three of them were identified as E. multilocularis positive. They contained noticeable spherical nodular whitish forms on the surface of the liver, recessed partially into the liver tissue. In two cases only single lesions (3mm and 6mm in diameter) were found, while in one case numerous (eight) lesions (2mm in diameter) were found. PCR E. multilocularis identification was confirmed by sequencing and comparison with the GenBank database. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
