This article considers the impact of the book People's Law and State Law: the Bellagio Papers, edited by Anthony Allott and Gordon Woodman, published in 1985. It sets out why I consider this publication to be a seminal text in establishing and developing the field of legal pluralism, which had a great impact on both the development of the Journal of Legal Pluralism and on my own development as a young legal scholar. In looking beyond the text, I consider the ways in which scholars have engaged with the book's call for legal and social science to "work from a new map". In doing so I explore a recent arena of scholarship involving international intervention. The article highlights the important contribution that empirical studies can make to research on legal pluralism, by moving beyond the binaries of state and non-state actors, as well as through pursuing how scholars are adopting a more integrated and relational approach to law, one that may involve breaking down traditional disciplinary boundaries. In particular, I explore how concepts such as space and time contribute to a multi-dimensional, scalar perception of law at odds with a formalist, state-centred view of legal pluralism. This allows new insights to be generated into the operation of plural legal structures and constellations in which people operate allowing for a view of law that involves multiple networks of relations cutting across international, national and local boundaries. This paper explores the relationship between crisis and experience, concentrating on 'excentric positionality' in relation to the shared world, as presented in the work of Helmuth Plessner. A by-product of the 1920s Weimar Germany, Plessner's philosophical anthropology, it is argued, presents us with a forgotten blueprint for transitive and compositional approaches to the social world. Instead of the familiar 'crisis of experience' used to diagnose 'what has gone wrong', it allows us to re-learn how to work with 'the experience of crisis' itself. The latter holds the key to a different type of approach based on 'xeno-communication'. This type of communication utilizes the productive potential of crisis in its uncertainty and hesitation before a decision, showing a way to extend and enlarge experience itself. Cultivation of these 'excentric' dynamics in turn suggests new 'excentric methodologies' based on a more flexible fit between concepts and the worlds they are meant to describe. 'Excentric methodologies' constitute a type of experience-based, analytical response to the shared world. They work with phenomena across spaces and problems, analytically utilizing their joint emergence from the fundamental imbalance and discontinuity characteristic of the human environment. This paper offers a new child‐centred methodology that explores children's visions of their futures, encourages self‐reflection and depth and shares children's voices with peers and researchers, as unbrokered as possible. This final stage of a longitudinal, arts‐based, social science‐informed project was delivered by partnering with schools in socially disadvantaged areas of Bristol, a UK city. Our two‐phase activity used a Tree metaphor to explore children's hopes, ambitions and support, looking forward to recovery from the COVID‐19 pandemic. The analysis combined multi‐disciplinary thematic and visual‐narrative analysis, and revealed diversity, intersection and individuality in themes that scaled out from the child and their family over different timescales. Themes included emotion (concerns; empathy), experiences (happenings, resources skills; aspirations) and relationships, linked to their recent experiences of COVID‐19 mitigation. The paper reflects critically on children's and researchers' positionality, and the complexities involved in developing research methods that encourage children's autonomy, agency and authenticity. In the 21st century, innovations have become an unquestioned sine qua non of everyday life. Our living conditions change rapidly, often without predictability, security, or critical reflexion. These changes easily turn into a form of political and social control of innovation-induced ruptures, keeping people on constant alert and making them abandon recently acquired practices for new ones. It can be argued that they represent a form of psychological coercion. Moreover, the growing pace of life-as-innovation, together with misguided assumptions and conclusions about life itself in the diversity of its local variations, produces new forms of inequality and misery among many societies around the globe. In the present paper, I explore how time, innovation, and values relate to each other in both academic life and life in general. I argue for prioritising well-informed reflexive works in the social sciences and the humanities against the pressures of time and frequently unfounded innovations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With patients' increasing online access to medical information traditionally contained within healthcare institutions, researchers have argued that the spaces of medicine are increasingly becoming blurred, allowing patients to sidestep their doctors and challenge their prior information dominance. In this context, Sweden has recently been spotlighted as it allows its inhabitants to continually access medical record content online. Based on an interview study on Swedish doctors' clinical experiences of the patient-accessible online health record, this paper expands on the theme of emergent medical information spaces accessible to laypersons online by arguing that this not only may challenge the traditional spaces of medicine but can impose on its temporal orders too. We detail doctors' attitudes toward the patient-accessible online health record, patients as continually updated record readers, and how this may transform clinical work rhythms and affect doctors' perceptions of the boundary between front- and backstage spaces. We moreover show how doctors can avoid "inappropriate intrusion" into the record by delaying patient access, but also that doctors can experience patients opposing to adapt to doctors' preferred pace and instead attempting to control the clinical rhythm. By intertwining clinical rhythms with doctors' front- and backstage, this paper contributes with an extended analysis of the emergent spaces of online medical information, adding a temporal layer. The paper furthermore enlarges the existing sociological body on historical developments of medical records and adds a piece to the so-far piecemeal social science literature on how online records may affect the medical profession. • Providing patients' easy and swift access to record information online may impact doctors' clinical tempo. • Patients accessing record information online can challenge doctors' boundaries between front- and backstage regions. • Doctors may view patients swiftly accessing record information as being empowered, amending temporal information asymmetries. • Doctors wish controlling patients' access to record information for professional reasons and to shield patients. • Patients sometimes manage to access parts of the record doctors are yet unaware of.
