New faunistic and taxonomic data are provided for 18 families of Iranian spiders. Four species, Cryptodrassus liyanicus Zamani & Marusik, sp. n. (♀, Bushehr Province; Gnaphosidae), Mesiotelus khorasanicus Zamani & Marusik, sp. n. (♂♀, Razavi Khorasan Province; Liocranidae), Nurscia minuscula Zamani & Marusik, sp. n. (♀, West Azerbaijan Province; Titanoecidae) and Talanites farsensis Zamani & Marusik, sp. n. (♀, Fars Province; Gnaphosidae), are described as new to science. Clubiona liachviana Mcheidze, 1997 stat. reval. (Clubionidae) is removed from the synonymy with C. alpicola Kulczyński, 1882 and is reported from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan for the first time; additionally, its previously unknown male is described. The genus Kishidaia Yaginuma, 1960 (Gnaphosidae) and a total of 10 species are recorded in Iran for the first time, and new provincial records are provided for 20 species. Between September 2019 and December 2023, a total of 612 wild birds representing 16 orders, 33 families, 60 genera, and 78 species from nine provinces of Iran with different climates namely Hamedan (n = 54), Sistan-va-Baluchestan (n = 372), Kerman (n = 73), South Khorasan (n = 52), Mazandaran (n = 7), Chaharmahal-va-Bakhtiari (n = 2), Gilan (n = 2), Golestan (n = 18), North Khorasan (n = 9), and Razavi Khorasan (n = 23) were examined for chewing lice infestation. Naked eye examination revealed that 58 birds (9.5%) were infested with at least one chewing louse species. Collected lice specimens belonged to 28 species from the families Philopteridae, Menoponidae and Laemobothriidae including Strigiphilus strigis (n = 55, 15.6%), Falcolipeurus quadripustulatus (n = 41, 11.6%), Craspedorrhynchus platystomus (n = 40, 11.3%), Colpocephalum turbinatum (n = 36, 10.2%), Laemobothrion maximum (n = 25, 7.1%), Nosopon lucidum (n = 20, 5.6%), Degeeriella fulva (n = 18, 5.1%), Colpocephalum eucarenum (n = 16, 4.5%), Laemobothrion vulturis (n = 15, 4.2%), Anaticola crassicornis (n = 13, 3.7%), Craspedorrhynchus aquilinus (n = 9, 2.5%), Degeeriella fusca (n = 7, 2.0%), Aegypoecus trigonoceps (n = 7, 2.0%), Quadraceps obscurus (n = 6, 1.7%), Colpocephalum impressum (n = 6, 1.7%), Trinoton querquedulae (n = 6, 1.7%), Colpocephalum heterosoma (n = 5, 1.4%), Colpocephalum nanum (n = 5, 1.4%), Lunaceps holophaeus (n = 4, 1.1%), Quadraceps spp. (n = 4, 1.1%), Actornithophilus uniseriatus (n = 2, 0.6%), Nosopon chanabense (n = 2, 0.6%), Actornithophilus cornutus (n = 1, 0.3%), Cuclotogaster heterographus (n = 1, 0.3%), Falcolipeurus suturalis (n = 1, 0.3%), Laemobothrion atrum (n = 1, 0.3%), Colpocephalum gypsi (n = 1, 0.3%), and Rallicola cuspidatus (n = 1, 0.3%). All of these species except six, i.e., Trinoton spp., C. aquilinus, L. vulturis, L. maximum, C. impressum, C. turbinatum, and C. heterographus are recorded for the first time from Iran. This study is the largest epidemiological study to date performed in the country. Data reported herein contribute to our knowledge about diversity of avian chewing lice from wild birds in Iran. This paper presents new information on black fungus gnats (Sciaridae) based on field studies at seven localities in Iran. Five sciarid species from the genera Bradysia Winnertz, Corynoptera Winnertz and Lycoriella Frey were collected with Malaise traps, yellow sticky traps, sweep net and an aspirator between 2015 and 2021: Bradysia cellarum Frey, 1948; B. ocellaris (Comstock, 1882); B. tilicola (Loew, 1850); Corynoptera fatigans (Johannsen, 1912); Lycoriella sativae (Johannsen, 1912). All species are first records for the Sistan and Baluchestan province. Bradysia tilicola (Loew) is new to Iran and was recorded for the first time in the Middle East. This brings the number of known sciarid species from Iran to seven. For five species are given a short morphological diagnosis and the global distribution. Species of the spider family Zodariidae occurring in Iran and Turkmenistan are reviewed. Seventeen species of three subfamilies are described as new to science: Lachesana kavirensis sp. nov. This paper raises the number of zodariids known from Iran to 22 species from seven genera (including the first Iranian records of Acanthinozodium Denis, 1966, Pax Levy, 1990 and Zodariellum) and those known from Turkmenistan to five species from five genera (including the first record of Acanthinozodium from this country). The monotypic genus Fulmekiola Karny of Thrips genus-group (Thripidae: Thripinae) is recorded in Iran for the first time. This is the sixth member of this group recorded from Iran after Microcephalothrips (one species), Sphaerothrips (one species), Stenchaetothrips (2 species), Stenothrips (one species) and Thrips (35 species). Diagnostic characters and the geographical distribution of the newly recorded thrips, Fulmekiola serrata (Kobus) are provided along with an updated key to genera of the Iranian Thripsgroup. The fauna of Iranian Scirtoidea (Coleoptera) is summarized in this paper. In total, three species of Clambidae (within the genus Clambus Fischer von Waldheim, 1821), one species of Eucinetidae (within single genus Bisaya Reitter, 1884), and 23 species of Scirtidae (within the genera Contacyphon Gozis, 1886, Elodes Latreille, 1797, Hydrocyphon Redtenbacher, 1858, Microcara C. The American species, Tylothrips osborni (Hinds) is reported for the first time from Iran and presented with detailed photos. The single macropterous female, which has been collected in the Ilam province, shows an unusual variation regarding the number of sense cones on antennal segment III. The dagger nematodes of the longidorids can cause diseases of various agronomic and horticultural crops, and are consisted of more than 260 valid species. In a forest survey of ecotypes of longidorid nematodes, from the root zone soil of Brant's oak, (Quercus brantii Lindl.) and hawthorn (Crataegus aronia L.) trees, three species of Xiphinema americanum group namely Xiphinema pachtaicum, X. oxycaudatum and X. plesiopachtaicum were collected and studied based on their morphological and morphometric characters. X. pachtaicum is prevalent Xiphinema species in Iran. In this paper additional data for X. oxycaudatum and X. plesiopachtaicum species are presented. This is the first case of host record for parasitoid wasps of the genus Diglyphus Walker (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) from the Anthomyiidae (Diptera) family. This result is based on specimens of D. anadolucus Doğanlar, 1982 which reared from parasitized larval specimen of Pegomya terebrans (Rondani) as a leaf miner of cotton thistle, Onopordum acanthium L. (Asteraceae). Diglyphus anadolucus is reported from Iran for the first time. Some biological notes and morphological characteristics of D. anadolucus along with related photographs are given. A survey was conducted on the fauna of oribatid mites (Oribatida) in Sistan and Baluchestan province (southeastern Iran). In total, 23 species belonging to 20 genera and 15 families were collected and identified. According to the results, Cosmochthoniidae, Haplochthoniidae, Galumnidae, Cosmochthonius, and Haplochthonius are the families and genera with the highest number of species. Sellnickochthonius immaculatus (Forsslund, 1942) and Verachthonius cf. laticeps (Strenzke, 1951) are newly recorded for the fauna of Iran. Species of the genus Chirothrips Haliday live on various species of grasses (family Poaceae). In this research, Chirothrips hamatus Trybom is reported for the first time in Iran as the seventh species recorded in this country for the genus so far. Most specimens of C. hamatus were collected on Phragmites sp. in Khuzestan Province (Iran). As for Chirothrips atricorpus Girault that has been previously reported in Iran the second antennal segment in C. hamatus is symmetrical. Armada nilotica A. Bang-Haas, male specimen is described for the first time and illustration of adult's genitalia are presented. This species is also recorded as new record for the fauna of Iran and diagnosis and description of the newly recorded species are given. Bionomics and distribution of Iranian Armada species are presented and an identification key is provided. The tribe Armadini comprises nine genera worldwide, all found in the arid and semiarid zones. The genus Armada is represented in Iran by seven species: A. heliothidia (Hampson, 1896), A. dentata (Staudinger, 1884), A. nilotica A. Bang-Haas, 1912, A. fletcheri Wiltshire, 1961, A. maritima Brandt, 1939, A. panaceorum (Ménétries, 1848) and A. clio (Staudinger, 1884). Of these, A. Panaceorum and A. clio have wider distribution rang in Iran (the former is widespread throughout Iran) while the remaining species are restricted, in the range, to the arid regions of the south and southeast. The tribe Orthosiini Guenée, 1837, one of the six tribes of Hadeninae subfamily is represented by 17 genera worldwide. Of those, three genera including Orthosia Ochsenheimer, 1816, Perigrapha Lederer, 1857 and Egira Duponchel, 1845 have recorded in Iran. Here, we present a Catalogue of Orthosiini of Iran including 15 species of this tribe with their provincial distribution in Iran. Identification keys for the Iranian species are provided as well. Perigrapha cilissa Püngeler, 1917 is recorded for the first time from Iran. The gall midges, Janetiella convolvuli Mirumyan & Skuhravá, 2017 and Orseolia cynodontis Kieffer & Massalongo, 1902 are discovered in Iran for the first time based on adult specimens reared from galls on Convolvulus arvensis L. (Convolvulaceae) and Cynodon dactylon (L.) Persoon (Poaceae), respectively. The galls of J. convolvuli and O. cynodontis were previously recorded only in Armenia and European/African sections of the western part of the Palaearctic region, respectively. Two species of the genus Foenatopus Smith, 1846 (Hym.: Stephanidae), were collected from West-Azarbaijan province, the northwest Iran; Foenatopus prousti Aguiar & Turrisi, 2010 and F. turcomanorum (Semenov, 1891). These species belong to the bimaculate group of this genus. Foenatopus turcomanorum is a new record for Iran. Their morphological characters and distribution are provided. Based on the examination of the materials collected by LED light trap in 2021, from south of Iran (Kerman province), a rare moth species belonging to Xyleninae subfamily (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae), Rhiza stenoptera (Boursin), is newly recorded for the country. The external and the genital characters of this species are presented and compared with its close relatives, R. schlumbergeri (Püngeler), collected from Sistan-va-Balouchestan province, Iran and R. commoda, a widely distributed species in the Palearctic region. Notes on the bionomic and distribution of R. stenoptera are given. The taxonomic position of Pseudohadena Alphéraky, s. l. has been changed through the time with the increase of the materials described mainly collected from Central Asia which was resulted in erecting the Pseudohadenina Ronkay & Fibiger, 2007. An inclusive catalogue of Pseudohadenina of Iran is presented. Beside the citation of first description, the distribution range of the members of this subtribe is given worldwide. Three new species of spiders are described from southern Iran: Filistata balouchi sp. n. (♂, Filistatidae; Sistan & Baluchistan Province), Levymanus dezfulensis sp. n. (♀, Palpimanidae; Khuzestan Province) and Scytodes kumonga sp. n. (♀, Scytodidae; Hormozgan Province). Species of the genus Temelucha Förster, 1869 (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Cremastinae) in Iran are taxonomically overviewed. Sampling was done using Malaise traps and sweeping nets in natural grasslands, forests, orchards and field crops during 2013-2017. Fifteen species are recorded and reviewed, among them 5 species Temelucha albipennis (Zetterstedt, 1838), T. flavia Vas, 2016, T.ophthalmica (Holmgren, 1860), T. pseudocaudata Kolarov, 1982, and T. variipes (Szépligeti, 1899) are new records for the fauna of Iran. T. convergence Zardouei & Rakhshani sp. nov. is described and illustrated. A key to the known species is generated. For all species, brief illustrated diagnoses are also provided. New taxonomic data for species belonging to Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 and Neoscona Simon, 1864 occurring in the Caucasus, Middle East and Central Asia are provided. Three species are described as new to science: A. mithra sp. nov. (♂♀, northwestern, central and southwestern Iran), A. villanii sp. nov. (♂♀, southwestern Iran, eastern Kazakhstan and northern India) and N. isatis sp. nov. (♂♀, central Iran). Neoscona spasskyi (Brignoli, 1983) comb. nov., stat. res. is removed from the synonymy of N. tedgenica (Bakhvalov, 1978), redescribed and recorded from Iran and Turkmenistan for the first time. New combinations are established for this species, as well as for Araniella nigromaculata (Schenkel, 1963) comb. nov. (♀, north-central China) (both ex. Araneus). Two new synonymies are proposed: Araniella tbilisiensis Mcheidze, 1997 syn. nov. is synonymized with A. opisthographa (Kulczyński, 1905), and Neoscona sodom Levy, 1998 syn. nov. is synonymized with N. theisi (Walckenaer, 1841); the latter is recorded from Iran, Georgia, and Russia (Northern Caucasus) for the first time. In a study on insect-associated heterostigmatic mites (Acari: Trombidiformes: Prostigmata) carried out in Mazandaran province, northern Iran, during spring and summer 2016-2017, a total of 13 species from 11 genera of six families were identified. Among them, three species Imparipes sevastianovi Khaustov, 2008, Scutacarus hystrichocentrus Sevastianov, 1983 (Scutacaridae), and Petalomium kurosai Khaustov, 2014 (Neopygmephoridae) are new records for mite fauna of Iran. The S. hystrichocentrus is also new for Asian mite fauna. Eight new host records are documented and the distributions of the mites are revised. Heavy storms continually persisted throughout the Iranian highlands and Iraq during the last few months. The consequences of the storms were recorded in several cities in Iraq; however, the toughest effects appeared to be in central and northern governorates, primarily regions through which the Tigris River runs, and those areas adjacent to Iran. The flood water, with high speed current seems to destroy and displaced several aquaculture facilities in Iran that propagate several fish species including the rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. This study reports on the presence of specimens of rainbow trout seem to be probably washed away by the flood and ended in the river of Shatt al-Arab, Basrah, south of Iraq. With the harsh environment of Shatt alArab River, i.e., unfavourable high salinity and temperature, the question will remain whether the rainbow trout will survive and establish a populations? This study reports records of camel spiders from the NE and NW of Iran: Galeodes bacillatus (♂♀), Galeodes caspius (♂♀), Gylippus (Hemigylippus) lamelliger (♀), Rhagodes melanochaetus (♀), Rhagodes aureus (♂), Karschia persica (♀), and Karschia mastigofera (♂). Ranunculus peltatus (Ranunculus subgen. Batrachium, Ranunculaceae) is documented from aquatic wetlands of NW Iran. It is the first evidence of heterophyllous Ranunculus/Batrachium populations for Iran. The two newly found populations were identified as Ranunculus peltatus, known from a wide range of habitats in unbuffered, running or stagnant water throughout Europe. The Ranunculus peltatus group is a polymorphic group of confusable taxa, usually placed on species or subspecies rank. The distinguishing features of the known Iranian members of Ranunculus subgen. This survey was conducted to investigate the occurrence of the family Proctotrupidae in Iran. The specimens were collected using Malaise traps from northern Iran during 2010 and 2011. The family Proctotrupidae (Hymenoptera: Proctotrupoidea) is recorded from Iran for the first time. Five species belonging to four genera were identified: Proctotrupes gravidator (Linnaeus, 1758); P. brachypterus (Schrank, 1780); Cryptoserphus aculeator (Haliday, 1839); Disogmus obsoletus Brues, 1905; and Mischoserphus arcuator (Stelfox, 1950). Podothrips erami Minaei sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Fars Province in southern Iran. This is the first record of the genus from Iran. The new species is bicolored and conforms with P. denticeps Hood and P. distinctus Ananthakrishnan in bearing a lateral forward-directed tooth behind the compound eyes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
