<b>Introduction:</b> Speech audiometry is well established and frequently used test in audiology as well as in cochlear implant recipient's performance evaluation. Expanding indications for cochlear implantation forces use of more refined methods of both assessment and prognosis of outcome of aural rehabilitation. Variability of speech intelligibility tests and materials require standardized protocol facilitating outcome comparison.<b>Aim:</b> Aim of this review paper is analysis of usage of speech audiometry and other speech intelligibility tests and its results reporting in patients with cochlear implant in Poland and in the World.<b>Materials and methods:</b> Protocols of many different domestic and foreign health centers where compared, showing many methodological differences. Selection of literature for analysis was made according to PRISMA algorithm recommendations. Twenty research papers were chosen for review process.<b>Discussion:</b> In many papers we found lack of data regarding methodology of performed tests. Many authors indicate difficulties in comparing results, especially if publication lacks basic technical information. Despite that if right method is applied, results can be compared. In literature only one level of material presentation in test is prevalent. Speech audiometry is significant in exploring connections between multiple pre-op and post-op prognostic aspects of cochlear implantation.<b>Conclusions:</b> Because of variability in presentation and reporting of CI patients outcomes, consensus is needed in area of system facilitating comparison of research results. This may provide simple solution for accurate analysis and choosing right set of data. Schematic of presentation of audiological data in authors health center was proposed as example.

In the wake of the IT revolution of recent decades, Polish companies have experienced changes, such as the obligation to report financials in purely electronic form. This shift creates benefits but is also a source of challenges. The authors' inspiration for this research stems from the recognition of a clear research gap in the literature relating to the electronic reporting of micro and small companies. The article aims to verify how Poland's smallest companies covered by reporting obligations cope with the compulsory compilation, signing and publication of financial statements solely by electronic means. The study was qualitative in nature, followed a case study methodology, and concerned two Polish micro-companies. The results show that the entities analyzed essentially do cope with e-reporting. Certain attributes of these reports - - such as timeliness or completeness, are questionable, however. The results contribute to the understanding of the financial reporting practice by micro companies in Poland. They can indicate directions for changes in the actions taken by those involved in corporate reporting. Cognizance of this issue can also provide the regulator with directions for regulatory changes. Lipid disorders, primarily hypercholesterolemia, are the most common cardiovascular (CV) risk factor in Poland (this applies even 3/4 of people). The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) serum level is the basic lipid parameter that should be measured to determine CV risk and determines the aim and target of lipid-lowering treatment (LLT). Lipid-lowering treatment improves cardiovascular prognosis and prolongs life in both primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention. Despite the availability of effective lipid-lowering drugs and solid data on their beneficial effects, the level of LDL-C control is highly insufficient. This is related, among other things, to physician inertia and patients' fear of side effects. The development of lipidology has made drugs available with a good safety profile and enabling personalisation of therapy. Pitavastatin, the third most potent lipid-lowering statin, is characterised by a lower risk of muscle complications and new cases of diabetes due to its being metabolised differently. Thus, pitavastatin is a very good therapeutic option in patients at high risk of diabetes or with existing diabetes, and in patients at cardiovascular risk. The progress in pharmacotherapy that has been made in recent years, including the introduction of very effective and safe lipid-lowering and antihypertensive drugs, has not yet translated into the expected universal control of blood pressure, lipid disorders and diabetes. In the STRUGGLE FOR Italian- -Polish-Spanish-Uzbek-Vietnamese Expert Forum Position Paper 2023, experts from five countries recounted several points about the paradigms of cardiological and cardiometabolic care for better control of classical modifiable risk factors in the year 2023. It is believed herein, that the need to intensify treatment, actively search for patients with cardiovascular risk factors, especially with arterial hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes, should go hand in hand with the implementation of the latest therapy, based on single pill combinations including proven, effective antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and antidiabetic molecules, many of which are listed in the present document. There is a need to use both new technological concepts, completely new drugs, as well as novel treatment concepts such as metabolic treatment in coronary artery disease, try to intensify the fight against smoking in every way, including the available range of drugs and procedures reducing the harm. This approach will provide substantially better control of the underlying cardiovascular risk factors in countries as varied as Italy, Poland, Spain, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Medical practice involves a high number of radiological examinations using iodinated contrast media (ICM). Therefore, it is crucial for doctors of different specialties to be aware of possible adverse effects associated with ICM use. The most common and well characterized adverse effect is contrast-induced nephropathy, whereas thyroidal adverse reactions remain a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma. ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction represents a highly heterogenous group of thyroid disorders. Due to supraphysiological iodine concentration, ICM can induce both hyper- and hypothyroidism. In most cases, the ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction is oligo- or asymptomatic, mild, and transient. In rare cases, however, the ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction may be severe and life threatening. Recently, the European Thyroid Association (ETA) Guidelines for the Management of Iodine-Based Contrast Media-Induced Thyroid Dysfunction were published. The authors advise an individualized approach to prevention and treatment of ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction, based on patient's age, clinical symptoms, pre-existing thyroid diseases, coexisting morbidities, and iodine intake. There is a geographic variation of ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction prevalence, which is linked to iodine intake. The prevalence of ICM-induced hyperthyroidism, which may pose a serious therapeutic challenge, is greater in countries with iodine deficiency. Poland is a region with a history of iodine deficiency, contributing to an increased prevalence of nodular thyroid disease, especially in the elderly. Therefore, the Polish Society of Endocrinology has proposed national, simplified principles of ICM-induced thyroid dysfunction prevention and treatment.

We analyze the role of institutional founding conditions and institutional legacy for universities' self-representation in terms of diversity. Based on 374 universities located in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Poland, we can differentiate between a more idealistic understanding (logic of inclusion and equality) and a more market-oriented understanding (market logic) of diversity. Our findings show that the founding phase has no significant effect on the likelihood of a university focusing on a market-oriented understanding of diversity--however, we observe an imprinting effect with respect to the adoption of a diversity statement in general and an equity-oriented statement. Moreover, our findings show that there is a socialistic heritage for universities in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries that is at work and still influences universities' understandings of diversity today.

The EU has set the ambitious target of raising the share of EU energy consumption produced from renewable resources to 32% by 2030, with a target of climate neutrality by 2050. The aim of this paper is to assess the role of biomass usage in the context of these targets. The paper identifies the progress made between 2013 and 2022 by focusing on a selection of EU countries. The largest bioenergy increments of 130, 77, and 60 PJ were reported for Poland, Sweden, and the Netherlands. This study evaluates the crucial role of co-generation and heat in EU regions, with biomass usage between 55 and 80% of the combined heat and power (CHP) energy in Nordic countries. The future perspectives for bioenergy based on EU policies, biomass resources, and technical issues were addressed. The EU possesses around 9% of the global biomass supply, ensuring a certain level of biomass resource dependence. Thus, the biomass usage demand in energy production, non-energy sectors, and transport is expected to rise, leading to increments of 13–76% on biomass imports. It appears that bioenergy development is mostly limited by economic issues and uneven support for bioenergy in different EU countries as well as environmental issues. The study shows a promising and sustainable potential of bioenergy in the EU as a renewable energy source while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and the economy. By 2050, liquid biofuels are likely to be increasingly used in the transport sector. Non-energy sector usage of biomass is still in an early stage of development, except for the pulp and paper industry, and significant use of biomass in non-energy sectors seems unlikely in the near future. This article explores the intertwinement of politics, international affairs and culture during the Cold War through a case study of Polish-Dutch cultural relations and the heterogeneous factors that shaped them. The study centres around the turbulent events of 1968 in Poland, and their impact on the international cultural policies of the Polish People's Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It demonstrates that the cultural field suffered the most immediate consequences of the political decisions taken by both parties – consequences which lasted for a considerable time – thus making it a metaphorical litmus test for the Cold War international relationships. This article reconstructs and analyses Polish and Dutch reactions to the 1968 events and their use of culture for the sake of their own policies – both as a form of protest and as an anti-crisis tool meant to influence the authorities and citizens of the target country. Hypertension and lipid disorders are two of the main cardiovascular risk factors. Both risk factors - if detected early enough - can be controlled and treated with modern, effective drugs, devoid of significant side effects, available in four countries as different as Italy, Spain, Poland, and Uzbekistan. The aim herein, was to develop this TIMES TO ACT consensus to raise the awareness of the available options of the modern and intensified dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension treatments. The subsequent paragraphs involves consensus and discussion of the deleterious effects of COVID-19 in the cardiovascular field, the high prevalence of hypertension and lipid disorders in our countries and the most important reasons for poor control of these two factors. Subsequently proposed, are currently the most efficient and safe therapeutic options in treating dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension, focusing on the benefits of single-pill combination (SPCs) in both conditions. An accelerated algorithm is proposed to start the treatment with a PCSK9 inhibitor, if the target low-density-lipoprotein values have not been reached. As most patients with hypertension and lipid disorders present with multiple comorbidities, discussed are the possibilities of using new SPCs, combining modern drugs from different therapeutic groups, which mode of action does not confirm the "class effect". We believe our consensus strongly advocates the need to search for patients with cardiovascular risk factors and intensify their lipid-lowering and antihypertensive treatment based on SPCs will improve the control of these two basic cardiovascular risk factors in Italy, Spain, Poland and Uzbekistan.

The theory about the infectious causes of cancer was very popular at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The research methodology to confirm this hypothesis was based on diagnostic methods used by bacteriology. Various types of experiments were carried out on animals and humans. Attempts were made to "infect" cancer, as well as to transplant cancer cells into healthy animals. Disinfectants were studied looking for opportunities for anti-cancer prophylaxis. They were guided by analogy and empiricism, clinical images of diseases were compared. Morphea (localized scleroderma) is an inflammatory connective tissue disease. Borrelia burgdorferi , as a causative factor, has been discussed controversially. The aim of this original study was to evaluate the frequency of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies in groups of morphea and psoriasis patients using the traditional ELISA method. Blood samples of 82 patients with morphea and 112 patients with psoriasis vulgaris were examined for the presence of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies (ELISA). IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies were detected in 4% of blood samples taken from morphea patients, while 4.5% of blood samples from patients with psoriasis vulgaris. There is one major limitation in this study that could be addressed in future research. First, the study focused on the determination of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies as a risk factor for morphea, but other infectious agents also require further testing, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and other viral or bacterial infections. The results of this study showed no significant relationship between Borrelia infection and morphea. Detection of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies is not recommended for routine diagnostics of patients with morphea at this time.

Purpose: The aim of this research is to analyze level of pro-environmental communication activities including the aspect of the circular economy concept in non-financial reports of packaging producers required to report environmental issues (group 1) and compare them to packaging producers which do not have to presents environmental aspects (group 2). Design/methodology/approach: This research uses the text analysis method. Quantitative and qualitative analysis was carried out. The information source in this aspect are non-financial report of paper and plastics producers (30 organizations). All reports were obtained from the National Court Register and cover the years 2019-2021. Statistical analyzes were also performed using the Shapiro – Wilk and U Mann Whitney tests to examine the distribution of variables and the significance of differences between the studied groups. Findings: The quantitative analysis of reports showed that the most of organizations in first group communicated environmental aspects in their reports. Despite the fact that second group do not have obligation to do it there were still some organizations which include these aspects in reports. Statistical analysis did not show any significant differences between the surveyed groups. Qualitative analysis showed that despite the fact that environmental aspects are taken into account in the reports, are treated superficially, and the level of communication in both groups was low and mostly concerned general statements or individual actions. Specified actions or their effects were rarely shown. Descriptive analysis showed that these organizations particularly do not communicate their commitment to circular economy concept. Research limitations/implications: Some limitations were identified in this study, i.e., lack of uniform reporting requirements or problems with reports content verification. Producers were presenting environmental aspects in general way. The law requires a minimum scope of data reporting and what elements will be included depends only on the organization. Originality/value: The article presents the packaging industry in terms of non-financial disclosures communication. No other studies in this field have been identified on such a research group. Also, there no studies have been found include organizations with no obligation to report. Article concentrate on aspects connected with environment but also relatively new circular economy concept. The amount of generated municipal waste depends not only on the population but also on consumption patterns and economic welfare. The aim of this paper was to present the structure of generated waste over the years in the European Union, Poland, in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, and in Rzeszow. It has been assumed that the SARS-CoV- 2 pandemic, the political action of the government, and the higher standard of living of the society are the factors influencing the increase in the amount of waste generated by households and waste segregation. The paper analyses the waste management system using the official data collected and published by Statistics Poland -- the Local Data Bank (LBD) and Eurostat. The amount of municipal waste and waste collected selectively from households was probably affected to the greatest extent by local regulations. According to the data presented, a sharp increase in the amount of municipal waste, including bulk waste and bio-waste, was observed in 2013 and 2014, which may be related to the amendment in 2013 applicable in Poland of the Act on maintaining order and cleanliness in communes. Unfortunately in the Eurostat database, no accurate data on selectively collected municipal waste is available, and in LBD this data is available for different time spans depending on the administrative level. This paper examines digital archiving policies of open access (OA) electronic scholarly journals in Central Europe. The research sample consists of 1589 journals from nine Central European countries registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Results show that of the 1589 journals, 69% of them have an archiving policy. In terms of the number of indexed journals, Poland ranks first with 592 journals. Switzerland is at the forefront of digital archiving with 89% of archived journals. It was also found that Portico and national libraries are the most widely used archives, and that 19% of the preserved journals are archived in more than one archive. A preliminary analysis was also conducted to investigate the possible existence of a relationship between journal rank and digital archiving. The results show a higher number of JCR indexed titles, as well as a higher ranking, among archived journals. The paper also compares the status of archiving policies among Asian and Central European countries. The paper presents the course of the discussion of Edmund Krzymuski's essay on crimes against life and health, which took place as part of the Section of Substantive Criminal Law of the Codification Commission of the Republic of Poland in June 24-27, 1920. The article focuses on the main threads of the referent's questionnaire and is devoted i.a., to the crimes of murder, bodily harm, incitement to suicide, or the killing of a fetus. The work highlights both Krzymuski's proposals, as well as different concepts supported by other members of the Section, which were included in the draft criminal code of 1932. That discussion was significant because most of these solutions are still in force today in the Polish legal system. The article also attempts to answer whether the circumstances related to the referent's proposals could have influenced his decision to resign from further work within the Substantive Criminal Law Section of the Codification Commission of the Republic of Poland. The special issue is devoted to selected papers, which results of the research were presented during the XVIII Conference on Automation, Operation and Maintenance of Control and Communication Systems ASMOR 2022. The conference was conducted from the 12th to the 14th of October 2022 in Władysławowo, Poland. The scope of the conference is quite wide, focusing mainly on automation and exploitation aspects of the control and communications systems. In order to prevent judicial bias and increase transparency within the court system, case distribution among judges is often subjected to specific rules. The question which arises, however, is whether these rules are obeyed in practice. In this paper, looking at the example from the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland in the period 2011–2014, we check whether assigning judges to panels is consistent with the alphabetical rule that should govern the appointment of judges to cases. Our results show that the rule was fully obeyed only rarely and in fact, in most cases, it was notably disrupted. We test several potential explanations that may account for this issue. We find that the most obvious explanations such as formal preclusions, random events or other duties at the Tribunal can account for a minor share of the violations at best. Among the factors that we considered, a strategic composition of adjudication panels appears to have the highest explanatory potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses digital skills and their role in collaborative distance learning. Collaboration is considered to be one of the most effective, yet challenging, methods of teaching and learning. Many learners avoid collaborative tasks, for different reasons. We believe that the level of digital skills may be a key to understanding their attitude. A study was conducted at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. The respondents assessed, amongst other items, the level of their own digital skills. Based on this assessment, three groups of students with different skill levels were distinguished. Further analyses showed that students with different level of digital skills vary according to their own experiences in collaborative online learning, but not in terms of views on the phenomenon, technologies used, or computer hardware. Most differences are between the low and high skill groups. However, they are also present between the low and average, and the average and high skill groups. These results contribute to the discussion on the need to individualise the teaching and learning process and highlight the roles of digital competence development for all participants in the learning process. This paper presents a review of published accounting research based on quantitative methods originating in Poland between 2010 and 2021. Twenty-one international and national journals were examined, all having "accounting" in their title, as well as the leading Polish journal on accounting research - Zeszyty Teoretyczne Rachunkowości (ZTR, Theoretical Journal of Accounting). The principal finding is that Polish authors - especially those using quantitative methods - rarely publish in top accounting journals outside of Poland. They most frequently publish quantitative papers in ZTR, although those papers account for just 5% of the total number of papers published there. The corresponding percentage of quantitative papers is much higher in leading international accounting journals. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that influence the image of banks in the Polish banking sector among members of Generation Z (Gen Zers) and assess the strength of their impact. Design/methodology/approach: The methods used to achieve this purpose included a literature review and a diagnostic survey with an original questionnaire. The study employed PAPI and CAWI techniques and targeted Gen Zers with accounts at commercial and/or cooperative banks in Poland. Findings: The study identified the determinants influencing the image of banks and assessed their impact on how Gen Zers perceive banks in Poland. The findings indicate that the factors with the greatest impact on the image of banks in the Polish banking sector are security, convenience and accessibility, and technologies and innovations. Research limitations/implications: Since the research part of the paper is based on a survey study, the findings are somewhat superficial. A significant limitation preventing these findings from being generalized globally is the scope of the study, which was conducted solely among customers of the Polish banking sector. Therefore, it would be beneficial to expand the research by conducting a qualitative study, and by including it customers of banks from other countries. Practical implications: By understanding the impact of the determinants influencing the perception of banks in the Polish banking sector among Gen Zers, those responsible for managing the bank's image will be better equipped to understand the needs and expectations of the youngest generation of banking service users. This, in turn, should lead to more effective management of the bank's image among a generation that currently makes up almost one-fourth of the Polish population. Originality/value: The paper is primarily aimed at individuals in managerial positions in commercial and cooperative banks within the Polish banking sector, as well as bank image specialists. The ranking of the determinants influencing the image of banks among Gen Zers, presented in the paper, partially fills the research gap by revealing the real needs and expectations of the youngest generation of bank customers. Featured Application: Future 5G/6G and DTT networks implementation in the UHF spectrum. This paper analyzes practical solutions for implementing 5G/6G and Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network coexistence in the UHF band. Two potential scenarios are explored using the case study of a nationwide DTT network: spectrum splitting and spectrum interleaving. Both scenarios are thoroughly examined based on current UHF spectrum usage and the DTT network structure based on a case study of Poland. The analysis includes potential future benefits and limitations of each scenario. The results presented in this paper can guide administrations in implementing decisions made at the International Telecommunication Union—Radiocommunication Sector, World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (ITU-R WRC23), improving spectrum efficiency and 5G/6G networks development. The European Universities Initiative (EUI) was established in 2017. Its aim is to strengthen strategic partnerships between higher education institutions across the EU by building networks of universities. At the end of 2023, there were already 50 European University Alliances gathering 430 higher education (HE) institutions. In each of these Alliances, academic libraries are members, too. These libraries are already involved in intra-alliance projects, and these alliances will probably happen more often due to the EU's project-driven approach. This practice paper is, to the authors' knowledge, the first attempt to describe another challenge that European academic libraries currently face i.e., project management practice. The alliance partner universities operate under distinct national laws and institutional practices, making it challenging to easily align them for effective cross-university collaborations. Familiarity with the theoretical principles of EU project management and project management methodology greatly facilitates the preparation of the proposal and the work of the project. It also allows more effective management of the project as a whole or its individual parts. This paper maps the challenges that work in international projects brings and provides suggestions on how EUI libraries can utilize project management techniques, while also aiming at showing the paths to facilitate cooperation. Drawing from an analysis of the literature on project management that might apply in library-led projects to strengthen communities of purpose, the paper is based on the example of the work experience on the project TRAIN4EU, that was co-led by the academic librarians from the University of Warsaw Library, Poland, and run by 4EU + universities. The aim of this original study was to evaluate the frequency of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies in groups of morphea and psoriasis patients using the traditional ELISA method. Blood samples of 82 patients with morphea and 112 patients with psoriasis vulgaris were examined for the presence of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies (ELISA). IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies were detected in 4% of blood samples taken from morphea patients, while 4.5% of blood samples from patients with psoriasis vulgaris. There is one major limitation in this study that could be addressed in future research. First, the study focused on the determination of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies as a risk factor for morphea, but other infectious agents also require further testing, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and other viral or bacterial infections. The results of this study showed no significant relationship between Borrelia infection and morphea. Detection of IgM and IgG classes of anti-Borrelia antibodies is not recommended for routine diagnostics of patients with morphea at this time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Electrical energy is in this day and age fundamental to the functioning of every household. The use of gas, heating oil or solid fuels for home heating also involves the supply of electricity. Today, electric power is the most environmentally friendly source of energy. Experience has shown that substitution of an oil heating system with a heat pump resulted in significant financial savings for the household. Design/methodology/approach: The purpose of this paper shall entail the construction of a multi-equation econometric model describing the mechanisms of electricity consumption in a specified household. The model takes the nature of a system of interdependent equations. Described shall be the monthly volume of electricity consumption, payment amount of for this energy (in PLN), and price per 1 MWh in a given month. Monthly time series from September 2015 to November 2022 have been used, which resulted in a time series with a count of 87 statistical observations. Findings: The econometric model of household electricity consumption presented in this paper confirms both the hypothesis about feedback between the variables USAGE and PRICE as well as the recursive effect of electricity consumption volume on its value in monetary units. In addition to the cognitive value of the econometric modeling results obtained, the empirical tool constructed makes enables forecast estimation of the energy consumption volume, its value and unit price in subsequent months, for at least 12 consecutive months. Practical implications: This type of research has great practical utility. They make it easier for rational interaction between electricity sellers and specific consumers. Social implications: Knowledge about the mechanisms of electricity consumption on the farm home may influence the rationalization of consumption and spending. This type of rationalization should have a positive impact on the environment natural, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Originality/value: The novelty and originality of the work are the identification of the mechanism behavior of a single household consuming energy electric. Feedback between magnitudes revealed electricity consumption and its price on a specific farm home. Aim. This study aimed to investigate how nursing students utilised the "DiagNurse" mobile app to assess patient health conditions during their clinical apprenticeships. Material and methods. This prospective, quasi-experimental post-test study included a convenience sample of 62 undergraduate nursing students. In the course of the work, they utilized paper-based measurement scales (first measurement) and the mobile app (second measurement) to assess patient health conditions during clinical practice. In total, 432 clinical condition assessments were performed on patients in the first measurement and 432 in the second measurement. Following the clinical assessment, two types of post-tests were employed to ascertain the usability of the mobile app: quantitative testing using the System Usability Scale and qualitative testing. Results. The mean SUS score was 80.2 (SD 15.67). The majority of the students agreed that the utilisation of the mobile app to assess a patient's health condition is faster (M=3.21) and more convenient (M=3.16) than the use of paper-based scales and questionnaires. On a 0–10 scale, the study participants rated it as "highly recommended" (M=8.03) for fellow nursing students or practicing nurses. Conclusions. Although the "DiagNurse" mobile app was considered a suitable tool for learning clinical patient assessment, the students also proposed some improvements to the app's design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a thorough examination of methane capture from Polish coal mines, contextualized within the framework of the European Union's (EU) climate policy objectives. Through a strategic analysis encompassing the interior of coal mines, the surrounding environment, and the macro environment, this study elucidates the complex dynamics involved in methane emissions and capture initiatives. The key findings include a declining trend in absolute methane emissions since 2008, despite fluctuations in coal extraction volumes, and a relatively stable level of methane capture exceeding 300 million m3/year since 2014. The analysis underscores the critical role of government support, both in terms of financial incentives and streamlined regulatory processes, to facilitate the integration of methane capture technologies into coal mining operations. Collaboration through partnerships and stakeholder engagement emerges as essential for overcoming resource competition and ensuring the long-term success of methane capture projects. This paper also highlights the economic and environmental opportunities presented by methane reserves, emphasizing the importance of investment in efficient extraction technologies. Despite these advancements, challenges persist, particularly regarding the low efficiency of current de-methanation technologies. Purpose: This paper discusses the concept of identifying the causal effects using quasi5 experimental methods and applies this method to investigate the impact of high license fees on the quality of mobile Internet in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: Quasi-experiment design, especially the difference-in8 differences method and the interrupted time series design were used to examine the causal effects of spectrum fees in Poland. Data on the quality of mobile Internet in Poland and around the world published by Akamai and data provided by Ookla® under the agreement1 were used for analysis. Findings: The study did not confirm the impact of high spectrum fees on the quality of the Internet in Poland. Practical implications: The results obtained can help policymakers in Poland and other countries in making decisions on spectrum management. This paper briefly discusses the relations between logic and metalogic in history. Metalogic is understood as a reflection on logic in its various senses, particularly sensu stricto (formal, mathematical) and sensu largo (formal logic plus semantic plus methodology of science). It is shown that metalogic in its contemporary understanding arose after mathematical logic had become a mature discipline. Special passage is devoted to metalogic in Poland. In this paper, we compare the development and possibilities for improvement of waste management in three countries: Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland. Waste management is part of the circular economy. The circular economy is the basis for waste management today. This applies to municipal waste management, too. In this paper, we work with data available in the Eurostat database. We mainly deal with municipal waste in the three chosen countries. Introduction and aim. The quality of recovery after surgery is an important issue for doctors and patients. Surgery is associated by patients with suffering and mental stress. The aim of the study is to assess the performance of the Polish version of the "Quality of Recovery" questionnaire. This questionnaire is used in many countries around the world to assess the level of patient care, the development of new surgical techniques and the introduction of new drugs. Material and methods. This was a prospective scientific research feasibility study conducted in PRO-FAMILIA Specialist Hospital in Rzeszow. Before patient recruitment, the Bioethics Committee of the Medical University of Rzeszow in Rzeszow, Poland (permit number KE-4/06/2021) approved the study protocol. Informed consent was obtained from each patient. Results. The English-language versions of the quality of recovery questionnaire confirm its effectiveness in many operations. The results collected so far suggest, that, Polish-speaking patients, just like English-speaking patients, experience stress related to the operation and the postoperative period. Preliminary results suggest that Polish-speaking patients feel pain, well-being, mood, and the ability to perform basic activities after surgery in a similar way to English-speaking patients. Conclusion. The Quality of Recovery scale is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating postoperative quality of recovery in Polish speaking patients. The paper deals with the wind speed of strong and extreme wind events in Poland and their descriptions of their effects. Two recent estimation developed by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in Warsaw [4] and by Lorenc [3] are presented. Their strong and weak points are briefly described. The 37 annual maximum gusts of wind speeds measured at all meteorological stations between 1971 and 2007 are analysed with extremal probability paper. Based on the measured and estimated wind speeds (taken from existing literature), the authors suggest new estimations for strong and extreme wind that may occur in Poland. In the near future, Poland is going to construct some important structures, such as a central air terminal and some nuclear power plants, so knowledge about strong and extreme winds in our country is very important for engineers who will design these types of structures. In this case, the information given in Section 6 of the ISO 1382 standard for identifying hazards, estimating, evaluating, and treating risk may be applied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ice phenomena are an inherent component of rivers in temperate, continental, and polar climate zones. Evident progress in global warming leads to a decrease in snow cover on land and ice phenomena in water bodies, disrupting the stability of the hydrological cycle and aquatic ecosystems. Although common observations indicate the disappearance of ice phenomena in rivers over recent decades, detailed quantitative research is lacking in many regions, especially in the temperate zone. In this paper, ice phenomena were analyzed on the rivers of southern Poland, located in the upland and mountain areas of the country, as no such studies have been conducted so far. The temporal changes in the annual number of days with ice (NDI) phenomena were studied in locations where ice phenomena were observed every year for at least 30 years between 1951 and 2021. Using straightforward but commonly accepted procedures, such as the Mann-Kendall test, statistically significant decreasing trends in the annual NDI were revealed for the majority of gauging stations. The Theil-Sen (TS) slope mean values were -1.66 (ranging from -3.72 to -0.56), -1.41 (from -3.22 to -0.29), and -1.33 (from -2.85 to -0.29) for the datasets representing the periods 1992–2020, 1987–2020, and 1982–2020, respectively. The results for the annual NDI were additionally presented within the context of meteorological characteristics such as annual and winter (Nov-Apr) air temperature, precipitation, and water temperature. Correlation and regression analyses revealed that the main factor triggering the decrease in NDI is the increase in the average winter air temperature. An increase in temperature by 1°C results in a decrease in NDI by up to twenty days. If these negative trends continue, ice phenomena may disappear completely from southern Polish rivers within few decades. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to identify the key criteria for distinguishing sub-disciplines in management sciences and evaluate their application in national and international science classifications. Documents from 16 different countries and areas were studied semantically. Triangulation was used to study 16 sub-discipline classifications and survey expert opinions among 31 representatives of management sciences from Poland and China to achieve the paper's purpose. Based on the results, the classifications use various criteria for categorising sub-disciplines, with the key criteria being (1) resources, (2) activity areas, (3) management concepts and methods, and (4) types of organisations. Meanwhile, the extent of their use is well in line with the expectations of the management sciences community representatives participating in the survey. The paper proposes a theoretical framework of 13 distinguishing criteria and characterises 16 classifications of sub-disciplines in management science from different countries. The theoretical considerations provide a good insight into the logic of creating a classification of sub-disciplines. They also provide a better description and understanding of the role of research specialisations in building the identity, organisation, and development of the management sciences community. The results align with a discussion on improving the classifications of management sciences' sub-disciplines. They are essential in identifying future and promising research specialisations within management sciences. Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to investigate and identify the RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) related practices within the Polish innovation ecosystem. Design/methodology/approach: The article uses the analysis of regional strategic documents which are regional innovation strategies of provinces of Poland. Key words related to the assumptions of RRI were identified, and a congruence analysis of their meaning was conducted. This enabled the creation and presentation of quantitative summaries of the identified and verified concepts included in the strategy documents. Findings: The analysis conducted shows limited presence of the RRI concept in Polish regional innovation strategies. In detail, the frequency of the occurrence of individual concepts in the aggregate and regionally was shown. Those components of the RRI that generally did not occur in the analyzed documents were pointed out. In the methodological layer, the challenges relating to the conducted study and methods of overcoming them were presented. Research limitations/implications: For reasons of completeness, the authors decided to use in the analysis the strategic documents of Polish provinces relating to the period 2011-2020. Some Polish regions have not prepared documents for the period 2021-2030 (Podlaskie province) or strategic documents were developed immediately for the period 2011-2030 and have not yet been updated (Aódź, Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian provinces). Practical implications: The results of the study indicate areas that should be completed when updating regional innovation strategies. Originality/value: The paper presents the results of the first analysis of the compatibility of planned activities in regional innovation strategies with the RRI. Purpose: The aim of the article is to characterize the specificity of fx mortgage housing loans (especially in Swiss francs in Poland), to present the conditions for granting them and to assess the financial and economic consequences, as well as the impact on the banking sector of the cancellation of these loan agreements. Design/methodology/approach: The article has been prepared based on studies of literature in the field of banking and finance, analysis of the legal acts and sectoral data from the Polish Financial Supervision Authority and the National Bank of Poland, as well as data coming directly from banks granting FX housing loans. The paper also uses own calculations using the annuity account. Findings: The research conducted in the paper indicates that the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the years 2019-2023 and the adopted line of case law of Polish courts, which mainly provides for the cancellation of mortgage loan agreements in foreign currencies, contributed to the emergence of systemic credit risk among exposures that were considered to have the highest quality in the banking sector. The cancellation of loan agreements became a source of long-term free capital for fx borrowers, for whom the terms of lending in foreign currency were in many cases more favorable compared to loans in the Polish zloty. Disputes related to foreign currency loans place a significant financial burden on banks. On the one hand they cause the need to establish provisions and write-offs, and on the other hand, they contribute to the erosion of the equity and reduce growth potential of banks and ability to compete. The value of losses due to solving the problem of Swiss franc loans in Poland, estimated at approx. PLN 100 billion, may cause the bankruptcy of individual systemically important banks, as exemplified by Getin Noble Bank, and significantly reduce the capital adequacy of the entire sector, thus significantly reducing its ability to finance the economy. The legal and monetary conditions of 2020-2023 strongly encourage borrowers to take legal action against banks and limit the willingness to conclude settlements. Research limitations/implications: The study was conducted in the legal and financial conditions of 2023, in which the final number of lawsuits and settlements in the banking sector has been unknown, and thus the amount of real losses to be incurred by banks and the Polish economy. Originality/value: The article fills a research gap in the area of assessing the situation of foreign currency borrowers in Poland, the legitimacy and financial consequences of the cancellation of Swiss franc loan agreements as a result of the CJEU case law of 2019-2023 systemically sanctioning the beneficial settlement of disputes concerning Swiss franc loans for the benefit of borrowers. Due to an urgent need to reduce the fast-progressing climate changes, a rapid, standardized and replicable solution for the infrastructure restructuring of the heat demand coverage of buildings at the district and city levels must be developed. As more and more communities in Europe, especially in Germany, are obligated to have plans for coverage of the heat demand, city planners and energy agencies seek a tool that will help them to design the first drafts of heating network routes, which can supply whole districts and cities with renewable energy. ArcGIS Pro Tools like Least-Cost-Path Analysis (LCPA) and Closest Facility (CF) allow us to find the shortest and "cheapest" way between the heat source and heat consumers in the analyzed areas. Starting from the community level, through the district, county, voivodeship and whole-country levels, the replication of the methods for generating district heating (DH) network infrastructure can be achieved. The proposed LCPA- and CF-based methods help to design the most suitable and efficient DH networks in the analyzed areas. As only a few open-source data inputs, like street networks and building footprints, are needed, the methods can be implemented in all communities in the country of Poland.
