3. ¿REPRESENTAN LAS ENDORFINAS LA BASE BIOQUÍMICA DE LA HERENCIA DE LA INFORMACIÓN MENTAL?

In a recent article (06/2009), Halabe Bucay presents the hypothesis that endorphins can be a core element in the transmission of mental information produced during life to the next generation. This paper argues that Bucay's model is based on four essential axioms, which are subject to debate. The aim of this paper is to discuss these specific axioms and evaluate the feasibility of the hypothesis. The specific axioms are: 1. "Endorphins act directly on different sperm function which implies their influence on the genetic expressivity of the same"; 2. Exogenous opioids affect genes and this could be a means through which acquired information could be transmitted to the next generations under the influence of endogenous opioids; 3. "Mental information produced through life" could be transmitted; 4. Endorphins are specifically related to the presumed phenomenon, thus justifying the epistemological frame. The four axioms are contested by most (if not all) studies addressing these specific issues which leads us to conclude that the hypothesis cannot be held. At the same time, the hypothesis presents a timely opportunity to discuss the role of neuropeptides on behavior and their possible role in the constitution of the brain, in regard to which we add that it is possible that endorphin levels within fetal and neonate milieus are associated with epigenic processes (e.g., methylations) and produce lifelong effects —although we do not develop this idea further, since it would require a totally different focus, based on completely different axioms—. Recombinant protein expression has been favored by the use of Escherichia coli due to its relatively low costs, high-density culture, easy genetic manipulation and also to compatible biotechnological tools. Strategies for recombinant expression in E. coli are presented in this paper. Genetic and physiologic factors are presented: number of copies of the expression vector, characteristic of the gene, ribonucleic acid (messenger) stability, promoter, host strain, clone stability, composition of the cultivation media, operation parameters in the bioreactor and cultivation and purification strategies. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in the world. Among them the ischemic type are of great importance, where the development of atherosclerotic plaques is the central pathophysiological process. The study of atherosclerosis is critical to understand how this disease process begins and factors influencing its development. Various laboratory methods, including immunohistochemistry, allow the recognition of ceils and molecules involved in the atheromatous process that are interacting according to the progression of the lesion. A marker of endothelial dysfunction is the increased expression of intercellular adhesion molecule ICAM- 1. In this paper, an immunohistochemistry method was standardized for the adhesion molecule ICAM- 1, and its expression was studied in healthy human arteries with atheromatous plaque. In samples of human arteries with atherosclerotic disease, the expression of ICAM- 1 was observed to be increased, but was hardly recognizable. This mainly because the tissue used as a control for standardization was a tonsil with an inflammatory process and hyperplasia, which significantly increases the expression of ICAM-1. The implementation of the immunohistochemistry method for ICAM- 1 in human arteries will reveal endothelial dysfunction states that will enable a future design and implementation of methods of diag- nosis in atherosclerotic processes in the early stages. The effects of nutrition on sheep reproduction have been studied by many authors. The interest has focused on the effects of diet quality in sheepin in which low plans n have low plane nutrition can cause abnormalities of the ovum or the embryo, luteal inadequancy and failure of the supply of progesterone to the uterus or failurein the mechanisms involved maternal of pregnancy. There are papers about the relation food-hormones, however, the existing information on endometrial steroid hormone receptors, which are essential for them to act, is very scarce. The aim of this study was to comparatively analyze the expression of estrogen receptor (ER) in endometrial cycle of sheep fed diet supplemented and normal diet. The expression of the receptor protein and the transcript were detected by immunohistochemical analysis and RT real-time PCR, respectively. The results showed immunohistochemical expression of RE in glandular and carunculares areas, especially in an intense inmunorreacción stromal cell nuclei and glandular epithelium. Detected increased expression of transcripts of RE in sheep fed a supplement with respect to not receiving a dietary supplement. We discuss the possible use of this information for application in breeding sheeps programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
