The paper introduces the life and work of the German writer, linguist and Slavist Therese Albertine Luise von Jakob Robinson (1797-1870) -- also known under the pen name of Talvj -- whose life was closely related to the study of languages, literature and folk poetry of Slavic nations. In the first half of the 19th century, she translated Serbian folk songs (Vuk Karadžić). She compiled and published historical overviews of all Slavic languages, literature and folklore -- including the Slovak language and literature -- in English and German. They contain the examples translated into English and German as well. In the study, the author provides reflections of Therese von Jakob's work in texts by several contemporary writers, such as Jan Kollar, Pavol Jozef Šafarik, Alexander Boleslav Vrchovsky and Jozef Miloslav Hurban. She shares Štur's review on T. von Jakob's translation of Serbian folk songs. She emphasizes the fact that some excerpts from Talvj's works were published in the journal Hronka (1838) and in the Kalendar Žiwena (1852). Later, her works were rarely mentioned in Jaroslav Vlček's Dejiny slovenskej literatury (History of the Slovak Literature), Rizner's bibliography, etc. The study is complemented with a rich note-taking apparatus, a bibliography of works by Talvj, and a bibliography of literature related to her, which is, at the same time, the list of the sources used in the study. With the expansion of the user-oriented approach, the attention to the exclusive orientation on the functionality of the system itself has no longer been paid. Users with specific information needs and user requirements, to which system developers were forced to respond, became more and more important. In addition, the diffusion of information and communication technologies into the individual's daily life has led to the consideration of diverse user groups, including children, whose limited information and digital competences oft en prevent the effective use of information systems aimed primarily at the adult user. Therefore, the concept of user experience and participatory design, based on the real needs and requirements of potential users, comes to the fore among experts dealing with the usability of web interfaces of Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) systems. The paper deals with previous findings in the field of the information behaviour of children while interacting with online library catalogues and with the consideration degree of the resulting criteria in designing OPAC systems used in Slovakia. It also maps previous efforts to apply participatory design linking the requirements and expectations of child users with the design and functioning of library information systems, while evaluating the potential of participatory design in relation to the issue.
