Purpose: This study aimed to understand the knowledge structure and trends in research on cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) in patients with non-central nervous system (non-CNS) cancer through text network analysis and topic modeling. Methods: From 2011 to 2021, studies on CRCI in patients with non-CNS cancer registered in databases including Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL, CENTRAL, and PsycInfo, were extracted and cleaned into words using Python's natural language toolkit package. Text network analysis was performed using the NetworkX library, and topic modeling analysis based on the latent Dirichlet allocation algorithm was carried out using the Gensim library. Results: In total, 24,030 keywords were extracted from the abstracts of 490 selected papers, of which "chemotherapy," "breast cancer," and "quality of life" showed high frequency and centrality. As a result of the topic modeling analysis, four subject groups were derived, including cognitive impairment due to chemotherapy, breast cancer and cognitive impairment, factors related to cognitive impairment, and symptom experience. Conclusion: These findings will help cancer researchers to understand the trends and insights of research on CRCI in patients with non-CNS cancer and suggest important areas and directions for future studies. Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants’ understanding of drugs. Purpose : Heart failure (HF) is considered an important medical burden with rehospitalization and mortality. Anemia is a major risk factor associated with the severity of HF. To improve the understanding of the impact of anemia in the population with HF, we explored the prevalence of anemia, its guidelines, relationship between anemia and mortality or rehospitalization, and limitation of reviewed papers of various populations with HF. Method: We used Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review methodology (2005), and thirty research papers were analyzed. PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, PsychInfo, Embase, Web of Science were searched for papers published between January 1960-June 2018. Results: Anemia in individuals with HF was primarily defined using the World Health Organization guideline. The prevalence of anemia in patients with HF varied from 9% to 56.7%. Moreover, such a condition significantly increases the prevalence of mortality or rehospitalization in patients with HF. The analyzed majority were non-prospective cohort study including secondary data analysis. Conclusion: Anemia in individuals with HF is a significant risk factor of mortality and rehospitalization. Prospective cohort studies should be designed to identify the optimal value for screening anemia and the impact of anemia on rehospitalization and mortality among HF patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose : The aim of this integrative review was to describe communication experiences and needs among the critically ill with an artificial airway and evaluate relevant intervention studies. Methods: Using the method employed by Whittemore and Knafl (2005), we searched for papers on PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science published from January 1, 2015 to September 25, 2020. A total of 26 papers (11 descriptive studies, 15 experimental ones) were identified and evaluated. Results: Communication experiences while having an artificial airway, identified either by patients' recall or direct observation, were predominantly negative. However, positive experiences were reported in patients with improvements in physical conditions and functions. Patients' communication needs were diverse, encompassing physical, psycho-emotional, social, spiritual, and medical issues. Interventions tested included alternative and augmentative communication strategies, communication intervention packages, and voice restorative devices. Physical, psychosocial, and communication-related patient outcomes were evaluated using various methods including self-report surveys, interviews, and observations. Conclusions: The findings from this review represent the state of science regarding communication of the critically ill whose vocal abilities are inhibited by the presence of an artificial airway. Future studies with rigorous experimental designs and measures are warranted to better understand and support the complex needs of this highly vulnerable patient population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study aimed to identify research trends related to emotional leadership among nurse managers by conducting a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. This study sought to derive insights that could contribute to improving emotional leadership in nursing practice. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and Meta-Analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines. Databases including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, Web of Science, Research Information Sharing Service, Koreanstudies Information Service System, Korean Medical Database, KoreaMed, ScienceON, and DBpia were searched to obtain papers published in English and Korean. Literature searches and screenings were conducted for the period December 1, 2023 to December 17, 2023. The effect size correlation (ESr) was calculated for each variable and the meta-analysis was performed using the statistical software SPSS 29.0, R 4.3.1. Results: Twenty-five (four personal, six job, and fifteen organizational) relevant variables were identified through the systematic review. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the total overall effect size was ESr = .33. Job satisfaction (ESr = .40) and leader-member exchange (ESr = .75) had the largest effect size among the job and organizational-related factors. Conclusion: Emotional leadership helps promote positive changes within organizations, improves organizational effectiveness, and increases member engagement and satisfaction. Purpose: This study aimed to synthesize evidence for the association of psychological stress with Telomere Length (TL)-a potential biomarker of cellular aging. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted to identify eligible studies in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and CINHAL. In this review, we included all papers published since the initiative's inception and summarized results as of March 2022. Studies that investigated subjective stress using questionnaires and objective stress using biomarkers of adults (aged≥18 years) were included. Ultimately, 20 studies met our selection criteria. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results: Fifteen of the twenty studies (75.0%) reported that individuals with higher psychological stress levels had shorter TL. Eleven of sixteen studies (68.8%) measuring subjective stress and five of eight studies (62.5%) measuring objective stress showed significant associations of psychological stress with TL. However, five studies reported no association between psychological stress and TL shortening. Although the heterogeneous studies limited the ability to draw clear conclusions, it is suggested that psychological stress might accelerate the erosion of telomere ends. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that TL could be a useful emerging biomarker for measuring stress-related health outcomes in nursing. Further large-scale longitudinal studies using TL as a genetic biomarker with multidimensional stress measurements are needed to investigate the association between psychological stress and cellular senescence. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review articles that used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale to measure sleep quality among adults with trauma experiences. Methods: Databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane, Medline, Google Scholar, Riss, NDSL, and reference data were searched systematically for relevant studies from July 5 to 6, 2018. A quality assessment was conducted using the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) risk of bias checklist, including content validity, structural validity, internal consistency, reliability, measurement error, hypotheses testing, cross-cultural validity, criterion validity, and responsiveness. Results: Fourteen studies met the inclusion criteria. All selected studies confirmed the overall quality of sleep by total score, but only 28.6% of the papers presented subscales. The quality of the methodology used varied within and between studies. Internal consistency of 21.5%, cross-cultural validity of 7.1%, and criterion validity of 14.2% were all evaluated as sufficient (+). Reliability and measurement errors were not presented in selected studies. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that overall quality of sleep was measured by analyzing the characteristics and measurement attributes of the PSQI. However, as a result of the varying purposes of each study, the full potential of the tool could not be optimized. Future research should assess the attributes of the PSQI based on the content specified in the COSMIN evaluation standard, using it carefully to consider the target population's socio-cultural characteristics. Purpose: This study performed an integrated review based on Roy's adaptation modes of physiological-physical and psycho-social integration to identify health problems and measure health management of child and adolescent cancer survivors. Methods: Based on 'Whittemore and Knafl's stages' of an integrative review process (problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of the results), six databases (Google Scholar, CINAHL, PubMed, RISS, KISS, and DBpia) were used to retrieve relevant articles. A total of 992 variables were collected from 14 studies published between 2011 and 2023. Results: Three thematic categories were identified: physiological-physical and psycho-social health problems (fatigue, diminished physical activity, physical sequela, sleep disorders, endocrine problems, bullying, and prejudice), daily self care management(lifestyles integrating health promotion, adaptation processes, and self-care), and preventive health management(utilization of health checkups and screening tests). Conclusion: Nursing interventions that can result in a healthy lifestyle for child and adolescent cancer survivors should be further examined at the individual, community, and national levels. Purpose: This study was intended to integrate the evidence of home care service intervention for mothers and children in vulnerable groups through an integrative literature review. Methods: We searched the MEDLINE (PubMED), EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, DBpia databases. The quality of the articles was assessed by one doctoral researcher and verified by one professor of community health nursing who had participated in the systematic review of literature. A framework was developed to identify the intervention patterns in the selected papers and categorize various elements. The extracted intervention elements were grouped into potential themes, which were verified by assessors on whether they clearly reflected the interventions in the papers. Results: Among 878 searched papers, we selected 16 papers after excluding literature that does not satisfy the selection criteria and quality evaluation. The intervention elements of 16 selected papers were categorized into six themes. The extracted intervention elements were divided into the themes of Patient-specific/Situation-specific care planning and intervention, Emphasis on self care competency, Intense home visit by developmental milestone, Reinforcing and modeling mother-child attachment, Communication and interaction across the intervention, Linkage with community resource and multidisciplinary approach. Conclusion: As a result of the analysis of proper interventions of home care services for mothers and children in vulnerable groups, it was found that it is necessary to consider indispensable intervention elements that can standardize the quality of home care services, and conduct studies on developing intervention programs based on the elements. Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the research trends of quality of life (QOL) after gastrectomy among gastric cancer patients in Korea and to make suggestions for future studies. Methods: A literature search was done using Pubmed, CINHAL, and Korean databases in Korean and English. Results: A total of 53 studies from 1993 to 2015 were analyzed. Of 53 papers, 6 (11.3%) were doctoral dissertations and master's theses, and 47 (88.7%) were from academic journals. All of the studies (100%) used quantitative research designs. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) quality of life questionnaire (QLQ)-C30 and EORTC QLQ-STO22 were mostly used to evaluate QOL in the studies. The main research issues were varied, in particular, the most common subjects of studies were QOL related to the evaluation of treatment methods. Conclusion: Further studies about QOL after gastrectomy with gastric cancer patients need to be done with various approaches such as intervention studies to improve QOL, qualitative studies, and multidisciplinary research. Purpose: This scoping review was designed to identify gaps in knowledge and guide future directions for clinical nursing practices and research on oral hygiene care for endotracheally intubated patients in Korean intensive care units. Methods: We conducted a scoping review using the methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley. PubMed, CINAHL, RISS, Science On, and DBpia databases were searched. Two reviewers independently selected the studies and extracted data. A total of 445 studies were identified, of which 17 were included in the final analysis. Results: No research has been conducted from 2021 to the present. A total of 12 instruments were utilized in 13 studies to assess the effectiveness of oral hygiene care. All studies investigating the effectiveness of oral hygiene care have consistently documented that chlorhexidine has the most significant effect. The frequency and time of oral hygiene care were each examined in one study. Conclusion: A research study is necessary to develop a measurement tool for assessing the effectiveness of oral hygiene care suitable for endotracheal intubated patients in intensive care units. Interventional studies should be conducted to determine the effects of chlorhexidine and the appropriate frequency and time of oral hygiene care. We used a systematic review to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a new health technology in Korea. The results of the systematic review are being used by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service when the Ministry of Health and Welfare introduces new medical technology. The purpose of this study is to introduce this systematic review, which is the main methodology for evaluating the safety and effectiveness of new medical technology, and to share our experience of performing a systematic review to guide the reader in performing a systematic literature review accurately and easily. This paper presents the process of new health technology evaluation using a systematic review. A systematic review involves collecting current available evidence of health technology systematically. According to the evaluation process, in the first meeting of sub-committee, we develop a systematic review protocol including PICO and criteria for inclusion/exclusion. In the second meeting of sub-committee, we search comprehensively for appropriate literature according to the clinical question and to select in a clear and reproducible method. We also assess study quality, considering the internal validity and external validity of the selected literature, and make a table of extracted data. In the third meeting of subcommittee, we extract general information, study characteristics information, and study outcome information, and synthesize the outcomes. In the forth meeting of sub-committee, we finalize the conclusions based on synthesizing the studies. After the subcommittees? assessments, the results are presented to the Committee for New Health Technology. Finally, we report this result to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The systematic review is useful for helping policymakers make decisions about the introduction of new health technology based on evidence. It enables people to minimize confusion due to weak evidence for health technology. In case of domestically developed technology and technology for rare disease, it is difficult assess health technology due to a lack of evidence, so assessing raw data (charts, results of clinical trials) is needed in addition to a systematic review. Furthermore, the government should support clinical studies to develop evidence on new health technologies with potential benefit, and the introductionof a conditional coverage decision in the new health technology assessment system is necessary to deal with uncertainty. Purpose: This study was a systematic review to evaluate the effects of aromatherapy on menopausal symptoms, perceived stress and depression in middle aged-women. Methods: Eight databases were searched from their inception September 8, 2015. Two reviewers independently performed the selection of the studies, data abstraction and validations. The risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane criteria. For analysis of the data, a meta-analysis of the studies was performed. Results: From the electronic databases, 73 articles were selected, and 19 removed due to duplication. After two reviewers read the abstracts of 54 studies, 34 studies were selected. Complete papers for 34 original articles were read and, 12 studies which met selection criteria were reviewed and the effects of aromatherapy on menopausal symptoms, stress and depression analyzed using meta-analysis with RevMan. In the 2 studies which included Randomized Controlled Trials testing of aromatherapy on menopausal symptoms and comparison of control and placebo groups were done. Aromatherapy massage was favorably effective in reducing the menopausal symptoms compared to the control group (n=118, MD=-6.33; 95% CI -11.51 to -1.15), and compared to the placebo group (n=117, MD=-4.14; 95% CI -7.63 to -0.64). Also aromatherapy was effective in reducing stress (n=72, SMD=-0.64; 95% CI -1.12 to -0.17) and depression (n=158, MD=-5.63; 95% CI -10.04 to -1.22). Conclusion: There is limited evidence suggesting that aromatherapy for middle-aged women may be effective in controlling menopausal symptoms, perceived stress and depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify which nursing interventions are the most effective in fall prevention for hospitalized patients. Methods: From 3,675 papers searched, 34 were selected for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Number of fallers, falls, falls per 1,000 hospital-days, and injurious falls, fall protection activity, knowledge related to falls, and self-efficacy about falls were evaluated as outcome variables. Data were analyzed using the Comprehensive Meta Analysis (CMA) 2.2 Version program and the effect sizes were shown as the Odd Ratio (OR) and Hedges's g. RESULTS: Overall effect size of nursing interventions for fall prevention was OR=0.64 (95% CI: 0.57~0.73, p <.05) and Hedges's g= - 0.24. The effect sizes (OR) of each intervention ranged from 0.34 to 0.93, and the most effective nursing intervention was the education & environment intervention (OR=0.34, 95% CI: 0.28~0.42, p <.001), followed by education intervention (OR=0.57, 95% CI: 0.50~0.67, p =.001). Subgroup analyses showed that multifaceted interventions (OR=0.76, 95% CI: 0.73~0.79, p <.001) were more effective than unifactorial interventions, and that activities for prevention of falls (OR=0.08, 95% CI: 0.05~0.15, p <.001) showed the largest effect size among outcome variables. Conclusion: Falls in hospitalized patients can be effectively prevented using the nursing interventions identified in this study. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to re-evaluate Florence Nightingale's achievements celebrating the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth and to reflect on her legacy. Methods: We conducted an extensive literature review with key words in Korean and English using 9 electronic databases, related data, books, articles, websites, and secondary literature. Results: As a result of this study, the five legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer were examined. First, founding nursing in response to social needs. Second, reform of the health care system. Third, a practical social activist who promoted social change for the public good. Fourth, first adoption of health statistics. Fifth, emancipation of women. Nightingale's legacy as a social reformer has had an considerable influence on our society so far. Conclusion: Nightingale was a pioneer in nursing, but she was a social reform activist who successfully transformed the medical systems and even the whole social system based on her keen insight, religious vocation, profession vision, and personal competency. In the middle of World's chaos and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems more necessary than ever to embody the legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer, and put it into practice. Purpose: The purpose of this integrative review was to synthesize previous research on perceptions of school health care among school-aged children and adolescents with chronic diseases. Methods: This study was performed in accordance with Whittemore and Knafl's stages of an integrative review (problem identification, literature search, data evaluation, data analysis, and presentation of the results). Four databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Web of Science) were used to retrieve relevant articles. Results: Eighteen articles were included in this review. We identified five thematic categories: peer-related issues, a safe school environment, self-perception of an existing disease, self-management, and a supportive school environment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review sexual abuse prevention education program for Korean elementary school students. Methods: Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review methods were used and Gough's weight of evidence was employed as a quality appraisal tool. Articles published in Korean or English were identified through electronic search engines and scholarly web sites using three keywords: "elementary school student", "sexual abuse", and "prevention education". Peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2018 were included in this review. Results: Twelve articles met the inclusion criteria and were appraised as being high-quality. Among the 12 selected studies, seven were descriptive, while five were intervention studies. Sexual abuse prevention education programs were effective in improving perceptions, knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors among elementary school students. However, deficiencies were found in the variety of educational methods, utilization of experts, and standardization of the content of sexual abuse prevention education. Conclusion: We need to provide various educational methods that are appropriate for specific developmental stages, and the sexual abuse prevention content should draw upon the current sexual education program administered to this population. Purpose: This review aimed to determine the effectiveness of oral care using Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHX) in Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in the intensive care unit. Methods: An electronic databases search was conducted with Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, CINAHL and four domestic databases from July 10 to 16, 2018. Two reviewers independently selected the studies; three reviewers assessed their methodological quality and extracted relevant data. We conducted a meta-analysis of the effect of CHX oral care versus placebo using the Review Manager 5.3 software program and summarized the results of intervention from the included studies. Results: Of the 512 articles identified, 17 randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria for review. The incidence of VAP differed significantly between the CHX and placebo groups (Relative Risk [RR]=0.72, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]=0.63~0.84). The pooled effects of oral care using 0.12% CHX were RR=0.65 (95% CI=0.52~0.80) and RR=0.68 (95% CI=0.54~0.86) using CHX solution, which were statistically significant. When CHX oral care was performed three times a day, the size of the effect was statistically significant (RR=0.63, 95% CI=0.40~0.99). There was no significant difference in mortality between the CHX oral care and placebo groups (RR=1.08, 95% CI=0.94~1.28). Conclusion: This review provides evidence that performing oral care using a 0.12% CHX solution three times a day could decrease the incidence of VAP. For improving the quality of nursing practice, the results of this review should be used as the basis for the oral care evidence-based practice guidelines for critical patients. Purpose: This study aimed to define the concept of patient rights. Methods: A concept analysis on patient rights through the concept analysis method proposed by Walker and Avant was conducted. Results: The attributes of the concept identified in this study are as follows: (1) respect for the patient's opinion, (2) patient benefits, (3) human dignity, (4) equality, and (5) legal, moral, and ethical guarantees. The antecedents of patient rights include the recognition of the importance of patient rights and a medical system in which patient rights can be protected. Regarding the consequences of patient rights, this study identified the improvement of medical services, enhancement of professional awareness and reliability of medical staff, increase in awareness and establishment of patient safety, decline in medicolegal problems, and increase in satisfaction with medical services. Conclusion: This study aimed to clarify the concept and attributes of patient rights through a concept analysis, and to connect the same to practical work to enable useful application to nursing practice. In determining the attributes of patient rights through a concept analysis, the study hoped to contribute to research on nursing intervention and the development of tools, as well as the establishment and implementation of legal systems related to patient rights. Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop evidence-based nursing practice guidelines for cold application in adult care. Methods: The study procedure was based on the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and Korean Hospital Nurses Association's guideline development methods. The evidence review procedures included targeted searches from databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, KoreaMed, KERIS and NDSL. The initial search yielded 6,426 articles published from 2006 to 2016. Based on the screening process, 147 articles were selected and systematically reviewed. From evidence summaries of 20 clinical questions, recommendations were formulated and graded. Draft recommendation were evaluated through external review. Results: The guidelines consisted of 10 domains and 27 recommendations. The content validity index of the recommendations was above .80. Major recommendations include 1) applying external cooling to reduce acute pain, edema, and hemorrhage, 2) selecting cooling instruments based on the purpose, patient's condition, and preference, 3) preparing and maintaining cooling instruments at an adequate temperature, and 4) intermittent cold application for appropriate durations with sufficient recovery time. Purpose: This study aimed to clarify attributes, antecedents, and consequences of forensic nursing competency. Method: Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis was used to analyze twenty nine articles on forensic nursing based on a systematic review of theology, medicine, psychology, and nursing literature. Results: Forensic nursing competency consists of the following seven attributes: awareness of the medico-legal problem, multidisciplinary integrated knowledge, education and training in forensic science, professional career development, evidence based practice in forensic nursing, collaborative forensic nursing with community partner, safety and security effective communication, and supportive relationships. Finally, we could explain the consequences of forensic nursing competency on knowledge construction in nursing, enhancing professional nursing, and establishing a human rights and social justice based approach. The antecedents of forensic nursing competency were forensic science interest, forensic science experience, and nurses' view of person in forensic-works. Purpose: There are many forest and outdoor programs being offered but systematic reviews of effects are lacking. This study was done to identify content, format, and strategies of forest therapy programs for elementary school students. Methods: Literature search using keywords in English and Korean was performed using 6 electronic databases in December 2016. Search participants were elementary school students and interventions conducted in the forest. Seventeen forest therapy studies were selected for evaluation. Risk of Bias Assessment tool for non-randomized study was used for quality assessment. Results: All studies were quasi-experimental designs. Forest therapy programs included various activities in forests such as experience of five senses, meditation in the forest, walking in the forest, ecological play, observation of animals and insects. All studies used psychosocial health variables and forest healing programs had positive effects on sociality, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress, aggression, anger, and school adjustment. Limitations of these studies were vague reporting of the study, lack of ethical review and rigorous research designs. Conclusion: Forest therapy for elementary school child can be an effective way to improve psychosocial health. Future studies with rigorous study designs are needed to assess long-term effects of forest therapy on physical and psychosocial health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define the meaning of a good death mentioned in Korean culture. Methods: This study was carried out using Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis strategy. A review of the literature was done with key words related to good death and other relevant words in literature published in English or Korean. The literature search was conducted from 1995 to 2016 for overseas and from 2000 to 2016 for domestic. The final selection target was 44 pieces. Each document was divided into 7 disciplines, including 25 domestic documents. Results: Three dimensions and seven attributes were identified; 1) The preparation stage for death: living well, preparation for dying, 2) The final stage of death: avoiding meaningless extension of life, dignity, comfort and interaction with healthcare providers, 3) The post death stage: positive feeling of families. Antecedent to good death were dying persons, families and healthcare providers' wishes for good death, The consequences were their experience during the period of dying and feeling after dying. Conclusion: There was a change in the concept of good death according to the times. It is important for nurses to understand the concept of good death in order to provide care with good quality to patients who are faced with death, their families and healthcare providers. Purpose: The aim of this study was to review studies on nonverbal pain measurement for elderly people. Methods: Through a literature search of the databases including RISS, Medline, and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, a total of 41 studies published between January 2000 and June 2016 were identified. A comprehensive review was performed guided by a framework developed by the researchers. Results: Nine nonverbal pain measurement scales that were mentioned more than twice in the selected studies were identified. Facial expression, verbalization and vocalization, and body movements were categories presented in all of the scales. The Pain Assessment In Advanced Dementia Scale (PAINAD) was most frequently reported in studies and the Pain Assessment Checklist for Seniors with Limited Ability to Communicate (PACSLAC) showed the highest internal consistency (Cronbach's ⍺=.73~.92) while the Doloplus-2 showed the highest inter-rater reliability (r=.77~.97) and the PAINAD and the highest concurrent validity (r=.65~.95). Conclusion: The PAINAD, PACSLAC, and Doloplus-2 are useful scales for use with elders. However, it is difficult to conclude which scale is the most appropriate because of insufficient evidence. More methodological studies are necessary to examine reliability, validity and clinical utility of the measures identified above. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the effects of non-pharmacological interventions on sleep disturbance amongst adults aged 55 and above. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CINAHL and several Korean databases were searched. The main search strategy combined terms including non-pharmacological interventions and presence of insomnia. Non-pharmacological interventions included cognitive behavioral therapy, auricular acupuncture, aromatherapy, and emotional freedom techniques. Methodological quality was assessed using Cochrane's Risk of Bias for randomized studies and Risk of Bias Assessment tool for non randomized studies. Data were analyzed by the RevMan 5.3 program of Cochrane Library. Results: Sixteen clinical trials met the inclusion criteria with a total of 962 participants. Non-pharmacological interventions was conducted for a mean of 5.5 weeks, 7.7 sessions, and an average of 70 minutes per session. The effects of non-pharmacological interventions on sleep quality (ES=-1.18), sleep efficiency (ES=-1.14), sleep onset latency (ES=-0.88), awakening time after sleep onset (ES=-0.87), and sleep belief (ES=-0.71) were significant, and their effect sizes were ranged from moderate to large. However, the effects on total sleep time and insomnia severity were not significant. Conclusion: The findings of the current study suggest that non-pharmacological interventions have a positive impact on attitudes and beliefs about sleep, sleep quality, sleep duration, and sleep efficiency. Therefore, the findings of the study provide an evidence to incorporate various non-pharmacological interventions into nursing practice to improve both sleep quality and quantity in patients with insomnia. Purpose: This study was designed to develop, to implement and evaluate a fever management nursing protocol for adult patients. Methods: This study was conducted through seven steps following both the guideline development procedures of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and the Model of the Asan Medical Center Evidence-Based Practice, as follows: 1) identifying the clinical needs and composition of the protocol development group; 2) identifying and evaluating the evidence; 3) assessing the level of evidence and grading recommendations; 4) forming a protocol; 5) evaluating the protocol using an expert group validity test and identifying barriers to its implementation; 6) protocol development; and 7) evaluation of practical improvement measures following implementation of the protocol. Results: The evidence-based protocol for fever management in adult patients was completed and includes five domains and 15 items. The protocol had good content validity (CVI=.90) and nursing practice could be improved after implementation of the protocol. Conclusion: This nursing protocol can be used as a guide for nursing in febrile adult patients. We recommend that further guidelines be updated in an interdisciplinary manner in order to foster local adaptation of the best clinical practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
