Abstract

The WTO is often blamed for not taking into account noneconomic values although article XX has occasionally been invoked to justify internal measures that were deviant from GATT prescriptions. China - Audiovisual Services deals with this topic in opening a new era in WTO law-making.This paper thus aims at promoting the idea of a controlled globalisation which combines market liberalisation rules and the necessary protection of noneconomic values. Most of the papers include references. An introduction to the proceedings, the session titles in the table of contents, and brief abstracts of the papers are given in both French and English; individual papers appear in either French or English. Abstract

The article presents information on several changes in Canada's clothing market due to trade liberalization since 1989. After the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the U.S., there was a remarkable increase in clothing exports from Canada to the U.S. After the lifting of quotas for all World Trade Organization member countries during 1995-2002, there had been a considerable increase in clothing imports by China from the Canadian cloth market.
