Comme la plupart des Français, je pensais, il y a peu, que les « Monsanto Papers » avaient révélé une affaire de corruption. Monsanto aurait réussi à manipuler les scientifiques et les agences pour garder le glyphosate autorisé, alors qu'on savait qu'il était cancérigène.J'y croyais, comme tout le monde… puis, j'ai douté et je les ai lus.Ce fut une révélation. Je n'ai rien trouvé de l'histoire grandiose racontée par la presse. Les discussions étaient ordinaires, les faits allégués insignifiants… Au final, la belle histoire s'avérait être une fable. La presse institutionnelle avait menti.Comment cela a-t-il pu se produire?Pour le comprendre, nous analysons les 519 articles francophones ayant couvert cette affaire. Chaque allégation sera détaillée, son origine retracée et sa présentation médiatique décortiquée.Ce que nous mettons en évidence est terrifiant : à quel point nos démocraties sont-elles fragiles?

Les textes de la littérature offrent à l'économiste davantage qu'un matériau auquel confronter ses analyses théoriques, un savoir sur les sociétés et sur les discours par lesquels elles se représentent. Comment la littérature met-elle à l'épreuve les concepts théoriques mobilisés par les économistes? Que nous donne-t-elle à percevoir des représentations et des aspirations des agents à travers des personnages singuliers? Comment l'écrivain réagit-il aux mutations de l'histoire et de la pensée économique? Dans ce recueil, j'ai voulu regrouper des textes publiés en français et en anglais dans les vingt dernières années; ces textes font écho à mes recherches dans le domaine des fondements de la logique, des mathématiques et de la physique dans une perspective constructiviste depuis un demi-siècle. C'est donc un parcours fondationnel sur la longue durée que j'ai voulu reproduire sans négliger la dimension critique des enjeux scientifiques de la logique, des mathématiques et de la physique avec la vigilance philosophique qui remet aussi bien en question la philosophie traditionnelle dans ses retranchements métaphysiques. Cet assemblage n'est pas un florilège, mais plutôt un pot-pourri de textes parus dans des revues qui ne sont pas facilement accessibles pour les papers en anglais qui composent un medley d'articles scientifiques sans musique, mais avec un leitmotiv et des thèmes majeurs récurrents. J'ai ajouté des commentaires introductifs pour chacun des articles pour les situer dans le temps de leur publication et dans les débats actuels touchant le savoir scientifique.

The paper provides an overall view of communications across various areas of economic policy, aiming to help country authorities as they increasingly use communications as a policy tool in its own right. The paper identifies frontier communications challenges, drawing on a large body of research on the salient issues. Although communications can never be a substitute for good policies, economic reforms are more likely to fail or even be reversed if they are not understood or accepted by those whom they affect.

Following the volume Les Peres de l'Eglise et la science medicale de leur temps, published in 2005, the present work collects 9 papers presented at the international conference organised at Sorbonne University on 15 and 16 September 2016. Based on the examination of the original texts, the papers endeavour to study the links between the Christian authors and the ancient Greek medical texts from an interdisciplinary approach. Particular attention is paid to the use in Christian texts of quotations from medical literature, medical notions, and specialized lexicon. The papers also analyse and compare the medical vocabulary attested in different types of contemporaneous writings, both pagan and Christian, literary and documentary, to better understand the process of transmission and assimilation of Greek medical science by the Christian society in the first centuries AD.

Maurice Gross, who died in December 2001, was a pioneer and leading thinker in the field of modern linguistics. Long before computers could facilitate large-scale, lexically-based language study, he and his team began building an exhaustive, empirically-based inventory of the'lexicon-grammar'of French which, thirty years later, still remains the most complete syntax-based lexicon available. Researchers all over the world have adopted the Gross model of description, which serves as a computational model for any language. As can be seen in the contributions in this volume, it has been applied to languages as different as Arabic, Chinese, English, Greek or Korean (as well as the major Romance languages, of course). In this volume the reader will also find a number of articles by eminent linguists who were close friends of Maurice Gross, and frequently in dialogue with him on linguistic issues. No matter whether they shared his theoretical views, or his particular empirical methods of description, they each had great respect for his work, especially for the close-grained linguistic analysis which has set a benchmark for future generations.

This book brings together 30 papers by leading scholars in the field of usewear and residue analysis. This publication aims to revive the debate on the role of traceology (use-wear and residues) in multidisciplinary approaches that address archaeological questions. Many studies on technological aspects of material culture deal with specific material categories (e.g. flint, ceramics, bone), often in separate or isolated ways, and this division does not really reflect the integrated nature of technical systems in which different material categories are in dynamic interaction. Hence, exploring the interaction between different chaînes opératoires is crucial for a more global concept of the toolkit with all its components and it is a precondition for paleo-ethnographic reconstructions of technical systems and economies. Starting from a functional perspective, the papers in this book explore various topics such as apprenticeship, group dynamics, social status, economy, technological evolution, spatial organization, mobility patterns and territories, or adaptations to cultural and environmental changes. This collection of papers, presented at the AWRANA conference in 2018, constitutes a major sign of the dynamism, popularity and scientific importance of our discipline in current archaeological research. The contributions reflect the multiple aspects of Wouters'scholarly activity: ancient grammaticography and language philosophy; humanistic education; literary and documentary papyrology; history of books and libraries in Antiquity. A note to readers: This book is in French. The text has two chapters. The first one, written by Waldspurger, proves a twisted version of the local trace formula of Arthur over a local field. This formula is an equality between two expressions, one involving weighted orbital integrals, the other one involving weighted characters. The authors follow Arthur's proof, but the treatement of the spectral side is more complicated in the twisted situation. They need to use the combinatorics of the “Morning Seminar”. The authors'local trace formula has the same consequences as in Arthur's paper on elliptic characters. The second chapter, written by Moeglin, gives a symmetric form of the local trace formula as in Arthur's paper on Fourier Transform of Orbital integral and describes any twisted orbital integral, in the p-adic case, as integral of characters.

This paper conducts a systematic growth and fiscal analysis to determine: (1) the growth potential of Benin's ambitious scaling-up of investment, and (2) how the government can generate the necessary fiscal space needed to increase investment without jeopardizing Benin's solid macroeconomic performance.

This volume contains 23 articles written by 26 authors in order to express the extent of their respect and friendship for Christine Kepinski. The topics addressed in their papers reflect the scientific work of Christine Kepinski, who always promoted interdisciplinary approaches and developed multi-scale analysis from the object itself to regional study. Several papers are directly connected to fieldwork she conducted in Iraq and in Turkey: Haradum and the Middle Euphrates area, Tilbeshar and Kunara. Others are devoted to material study, notably glyptic, seals and sealing practices. Others evoke Syria: she never directed archaeological excavation there but she always integrated Syria in her studies. Finally, some are inspired by Christine Kepinski's interest for urban life. The chronological time span of the book as well as the various specialisations of the authors clearly show the great value of her scientific background guided by her taste for the Orient.

This paper analyzes the persistence of fragility in some sub-Saharan African states and the multiple dimensions of state weakness that are simultaneously at play. This study also provides an overview of the analytics of fragility, conflict, and international engagement with fragile states before turning to an assessment of the current state of affairs and the areas in which there has been progress in building resilience. The paper also looks at the role of fiscal policies and institutions and analyzes growth accelerations and decelerations. Seven country case studies help identify more concretely some key factors at play, and the diversity of paths followed, with an emphasis on the sequencing of reforms. The paper concludes with a summary of the main findings and policy implications.

In July, 2009, the International Association for Assyriology met in Paris, France, for 5 days to deliver and listen to papers on the theme “La famille dans le Proche-Orient.” This volume, the proceedings of the conference, contains 53 of the papers read at the 55th annual Rencontre, including primarily papers directly connected with the theme and some on areas of related interest. The papers covered every period of Mesopotamian history, from the third millennium through the end of the first millennium B.C.E. The reform of energy subsidies is an important but challenging issue for sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. There is a relatively large theoretical and empirical literature on this issue. While this paper relies on that literature, too, it tailors its discussion to SSA countries to respond to the following questions: Why it is important to reduce energy subsidies? What are the difficulties involved in energy subsidy reform? How best can a subsidy reform be implemented? This paper uses various sources of information on SSA countries: quantitative assessments, surveys, and individual (but standardized) case studies.

A dual approach, combining social anthropology and archaeology, reveals the banquet or ceremonial feast as a fully social phenomenon. In extraordinary circumstances, banquets - usually held in stratified societies with a sacrificial religion - bring together large numbers of guests, who are fed and watered on rare and expensive foods in large quantities, in order to honor someone or something, and to ostentatiously assert the power of the organizers. While this practice has been recognized in many societies around the world, living, ancient or extinct, it had not yet been the subject of a large-scale synthesis. It was therefore appropriate to take an interdisciplinary look at the ins and outs of the festive banquet in relation to the cosmogonies and social practices of the social spaces concerned. The nine essays collected here, from papers given at study days held in Strasbourg, contribute to the debate on important questions relating to the banquet, such as its temporality (cultural cycles or cosmogonic myths), its location (public or private sphere, open-air or indoors), commensality, hospitality, the type of products consumed and table manners, and finally the hypothesis that the organization of a banquet implies the existence of a hierarchical, sedentary society, with wealth (or chrematism), if not ostentation. The diversity of geo-cultural areas, chronological periods and case histories covered enable us to apprehend the banquet in all its multiple aspects, offering new food for thought and avenues for research.

This Cahier du centre de logique is made of papers presented at the homonymous conference that was organized by the editors in October 2008 to celebrate the 100th birthday of axiomatic set theory. It can virtually be divided into two bundles of papers : one discussing systems related to Zermelo's, the other dealing more specifically with systems related to type theory and stratification, both of which treating of key notions in the axiomatization of set theory.

Between 1918 and 1958, Woman's Weekly targeted a lower middle-class readership: broadly, housewives and unmarried clerical workers on low incomes, who viewed or aspired to view themselves as middle-class. Examining the magazine's distinctively lower middle-class treatment of issues including the First World War's impact on gender, the status of housewives and working women, women's contribution to the Second World War effort, and Britain's post-war economic and social recovery, this book supplies fresh and challenging insights into lower middle-class culture, during a period in which Britain's lower middle classes were gaining prominence, and middle-class lifestyles were undergoing rapid and radical change.

This volume brings together a selection of the papers on the theme of the Papacy and the Crusades, delivered at the 7th Congress of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East. After the introduction by Michel Balard, the first papers examine aspects of crusader terminology. The next section deals with events and perceptions in the West, including papers on the crusades against the Albigensians and Frederick II, and on the situation in the Iberian peninsula. There follow studies on relations between crusaders and the local populations in the Byzantine world after 1204 and Frankish Greece, and in Cilician Armenia, while a final pair looks at papal interventions in Poland and Scandinavia.

French aeronautics shone brightly in the first decade of the twentieth Century, but declined after the Great War. To remedy this situation, a new Ministry of Air launched in 1929 a large national program of scientific research in fluid mechanics, including the creation of four institutes and five teaching centers in the faculties of sciences in Paris and the provinces. This visionary policy, supported by considerable means, started a quite creative period and led to important achievements notably in the fields of atmospheric turbulence, thermoconvection and wake vortices. The usual picture of a period exclusively dominated by German and British contributions (and growing North-American ones), comes out significantly revised. The fruits of this policy will allow France to play a major role in the creation, after World War II, of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and are still visible today in the French teaching and research organization. Ze doctoreerde aan de KU Leuven (Kwantitatieve en Persoonlijkheidspsychologie) en werkte nog twee jaar als postdoctoraal onderzoeker aan de Faculteit Psychologische en Pedagogische Wetenschappen. Contemporary French Poetics finds its origin in part in the International Colloquium on French and Francophone Literature in the 1990's held at Dalhousie University in September 1998. A certain number of the papers given at that time, and since reworked in some fair measure, take their place here alongside other studies subsequently invited. In all they form a broad and varyingly focused set of cogent and pertinent appraisals of very recent French, and to some degree francophone, poetic practice and its shifting, becoming conceptual underpinnings. Studies offered range from those devoted to the work of established contemporary figures such as Bonnefoy and Du Bouchet, Stétié and Deguy, Noël and Chedid to discussions of younger generation writing by poets as diverse as Pinson and Leclair, Bancquart and Emaz, Maulpoix and Després, Morency and Zins. All center, however, upon work essentially produced over the last ten years.
