Aim: The present study aimed to examine the effects of a learning programme for nurse managers on connecting learning with their own experiences and fostering competence. Background: In Japan, second‐level programmes for certified nurse administrators represent the main opportunity for formal training for nurse managers. However, it is difficult for nurse managers to transfer second‐level programme learning to their workplace. Methods: This quasi‐experimental study used a two‐group pretest–posttest design with purposive sampling and non‐random assignment of 29 consenting Japanese nurse managers who were participating in a second‐level programme through a prefectural nursing association. The programme provided reflection papers and feedback from a researcher, as well as reflective group sessions. The outcome measure was the Japanese First‐Line Nurse Managers Competence Inventory (JNMCI) score. Results: The intervention group showed significant improvement in JNMCI scores after participating in the programme. A significant difference in JNMCI scores was also observed between the intervention and comparison groups. Conclusion: This learning programme led to improved competency among nurse managers. Implications for Nursing Management: Nurse manager development programmes should include reflection papers and feedback, as well as reflective group sessions, to improve competency among nurse managers. This paper constructs a platform framework for extensive data analysis of college students' psychological quality with the help of the thinking mode of big data and related technologies and proposes the construction principles, data sources, data processing methods, data platform construction, and platform application of big data analysis platform for college students' psychological quality assessment. This paper combines the application methods of big data technology, collects the management data related to the psychological quality assessment of college students, saves them into the system database with certain storage logic, and realizes the function of psychological quality assessment through the design of selected psychological quality assessment data, data management and data resource management and other parts based on the data results of extensive data analysis. This study provides some insights into the psychological quality assessment of college students. The strength of association between the variables of psychological quality assessment of college students changes over time, but the overall psychological structure is more stable. Aim: To assess the perception of the nursing profession in Armenia from the perspective of multiple stakeholders, including nurses and the general public. Background: Nurses' role perception is a complex phenomenon defined by multiple stakeholders. Methods: The assessment used a convergent parallel mixed‐methods design, with a dominant qualitative status. We conducted the qualitative phase through focus group discussions and in‐depth interviews with 235 people and collected quantitative data in a cross‐sectional telephone survey with 389 participants. Results: The nursing profession has been influenced by medical hierarchy and subordination, and none of the participants recognized nursing as an autonomous health care profession. The quantitative survey findings were largely consistent with the qualitative results. Our findings highlighted empathy and compassion as inherent qualities of nurses in Armenia. Conclusion: To change opinions about the nursing profession and highlight nurses' meaningful contribution to the provision of health care services, it is important to develop a national definition of nursing and introduce higher educational opportunities for nurses in Armenia. Implications for nursing management: The paper highlights the importance of quality education for preparing highly competent nurse managers who can become role models in promoting nurses' roles in health care systems and improving the professional and public image of nursing. Background. Novel educational strategies are essential to cultivate a cadre of nurses with the requisite skills, critical thinking abilities, and adaptability demanded by contemporary healthcare contexts. The shift towards various learning modalities in nursing education, including online, hybrid, and in‐person formats, raises questions about their impact on student engagement and academic self‐concept. Objectives. This study aimed to assess and compare the levels of student engagement and academic self‐concept among nursing students engaged in different study modalities (online, hybrid, and in‐person). Methods. In this descriptive comparative study, 203 nursing students were evaluated using the university student engagement inventory (USEI) and academic self‐concept questionnaire (ASCQ). Participants were divided into groups based on their involvement in online, hybrid, or in‐person study modes. Differences and correlational analysis within variables were performed to evaluate the comparison between groups. Results. Significant differences were observed in the USEI scores among the study modalities: online (mean = 45.7, SD = 5.6), hybrid (mean = 48.8, SD = 6.1), and in‐person (mean = 50.4, SD = 6.2), with in‐person students displaying the highest levels of engagement (F = 10.663, P < 0.001). Academic self‐concept scores also varied notably (F = 9.422, P < 0.001) between modalities, particularly between online (mean = 54.8, SD = 5.3) and in‐person students (mean = 58.8, SD = 7.7). Correlational analysis within each modality revealed significant relationships among the subdomains of USEI and ASCQ. Conclusion. The study demonstrates that the mode of study substantially influences nursing students' engagement and academic self‐concept, with in‐person learners showing higher scores in both domains. Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality globally, particularly in developing countries such as Ethiopia. Periodic assessments of IPI prevalence are essential prerequisite for effective control measures. Therefore, this cross‐sectional study is aimed at determining the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections and associated risk factors among schoolchildren at Wonji Shoa Secondary School, East Shoa Zone, Adama district, Oromia region, Ethiopia, between January and June 2022. A simple random stratified sampling technique was employed to select participants. Sociodemographic and risk factor data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Stool samples were examined to identify parasites. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression were conducted to assess associations between variables and then the strength of the association. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the 403 selected students, 330 completed the study that makes 81.89% response success. The overall IPI prevalence was 16.66% (55/330), with a higher prevalence among males (60%, 33/55) than females (40%, 22/55). Five parasite species were identified: two protozoa (Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia) with a combined prevalence of 9.70% (32/330) and three helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Hymenolepis nana, and Taenia spp.) with a combined prevalence of 6.97% (23/330). Cysts were detected in 62.5% of E. histolytica cases (15/24), and eggs were detected in 76.92% of A. lumbricoides cases (10/13). The study revealed a substantial IPI prevalence (16.66%) among the students. This finding underscores the need for effective prevention and control strategies. The predominance of parasitic infections among males is notable requiring further investigation of the factors. The identification of multiple parasite species indicates a complex epidemiological scenario. Background. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions hold promise in assisting older adults to meet physical activity (PA) guidelines. Yet, little is known about how older adults perceive using smartphones to enhance their PA. This study explored older adults' experiences with the "My Health Plan" mHealth intervention and examined which person‐level factors were associated with adherence. Methods. Forty older adults (52.5% female, mean age: 72.6 years) were instructed to use the My Health Plan application, which provided up to six stretch‐ and strengthening exercises per day and to wear a Fitbit Charge activity monitor for seven consecutive days. Person‐level factors (e.g., gender and age) and psychosocial factors (e.g., intention and motivation) were assessed using a questionnaire. Afterwards, semistructured interviews were conducted to gather participants' experiences with the application and Fitbit. Deductive thematic analysis (qualitative data) and regression analyses (quantitative data) were conducted. Results. Key themes emerging from the interviews were (1) smartphone notifications (including timing and number) and carrying the smartphone throughout the day, (2) suggested stretch‐ and strengthening exercises, (3) providing feedback, (4) experiences with Fitbit, and (5) overall suggestions for improving the application and mHealth interventions. Overall, participants reported positive experiences with the application and Fitbit. Being male, having higher baseline PA, lower anxiety, and greater ability to participate in social roles and activities were related to increased engagement with the proposed exercises. Conclusions. This study provides valuable insights to optimize future mHealth interventions tailored to older adults' specific needs, aligning with their perceptions of the digital transformation in health promotion. Loneliness research has tended to focus on mainstream and older populations despite evidence that non‐mainstream groups, like those experiencing homelessness, may experience loneliness differently. Limited existing research indicates that (a) people who have been homeless experience loneliness as multidimensional (as a pluralistic, non‐unidimensional emotion, experienced specific to lacked relationships) and (b) mainstream loneliness scales may be inappropriate for this group. The current study piloted and appraised the feasibility the short version of the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (SELSA‐S) among 129 Australian adults with a lived experience of homelessness. Exploratory Factor Analysis and an observational questionnaire appraisal were used to assess factorial and content validity and showed the measure did not fit this sample as well as in mainstream samples. Removal of items that participants found difficult to comprehend/answer improved the factorial fit of the scale. In conclusion, the SELSA‐S may be inappropriate for measuring loneliness among people who have experienced homelessness. Further research needs to explore the potentially different structure of loneliness among marginalised groups so that a better understanding of loneliness can be reached. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Consumer-directed care (CDC) is increasingly widespread among aged care service options in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. However, the evidence base regarding the programmatic and contextual factors that affect the outcome of CDC interventions is surprisingly small. This paper reports on a self-directed care approach for older Australians with complex care needs. A multimethods longitudinal comparative cohort study was employed comprising 4 survey tools and 56 semi-structured interviews. Participation rates were around 20%. A total of 185 (98 in the intervention and 87 in the control group) older people and carers were recruited at baseline. Eleven months later, 109 participants (59 in the intervention and 50 in the control group) completed the repeat measure. Attrition rates were around 40%. Data collection occurred between July 2010 and April 2012. The data suggest that intervention group participants were likely to be more satisfied with the way they were treated (P = 0.013), their care options (P = 0.014), the 'say' they had in their care (P < 0.001), the information they received regarding their care (P = 0.012), what they were achieving in life (P = 0.031), that the services changed their view on what could be achieved in life (P = 0.020) and with their standard of living (P = 0.008). The evaluation suggests that while only a very small segment of older people is interested in a voucher or cash option, a substantially larger group would like to have greater say over and more direct access to their care, without, however, assuming administrative and financial responsibilities. The paper concludes that a stepped capacity-building approach to CDC may improve the acceptability of CDC to older people and generate synergies that improve older people's care outcomes. Aim: To explore nurses' perceptions of their practice environment in acute care hospitals in Sharjah and North Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Background: The health of the environment in which registered nurses' work is critical to nursing outcomes. The interest to examine the practice environment extended to the Gulf area which has a complex healthcare system including the UAE. Methods: The study used an exploratory descriptive designwith a qualitative part using two focus group interviews. The sample sizewas 450 nurses selected through a random sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire including the Practice Environment Scale of NursingWork Index (PES-NWI) was used. In addition, semi-structured interviews for two focus groups were done. Results: The results showed that UAE practicing nurses reported favorable perceptions of most aspects of their practice environment. Unfavorable perceptions were only reported for Staffing and Resource Adequacy. The analysis of focus group discussions resulted in different emerged themes such as Lack of Recognition and Career Promotion, and Nurses' Workload due to Paper and AdministrativeWork. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that strategic interventions are needed to secure adequate staff and resources and implement an effective system for evaluation of performance. This paper reports finding from a nested qualitative study designed to elicit the views and perceptions of those who participated in a randomised controlled feasibility trial testing a non-pharmacological intervention, Respiratory Distress Symptom Intervention (RDSI), for the management of the breathlessness-cough-fatigue symptom cluster in lung cancer. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 lung cancer patients, three caregivers and seven researchers involved in recruitment, consent, RDSI training and delivery and participant follow-up. Thematic analysis identified key considerations including: the importance of informed consent emphasising commitment to completion of paperwork and raising awareness of potential sensitivities relating to content of questionnaires; ensuring screening for the presence of symptoms reflects the language used by patients; appreciation of the commitment required from participants to learn intervention techniques and embed them as part of everyday life; conduct of interviews with patients who decline to participate; and conduct of serial interviews with those receiving RDSI to further inform its routine implementation into clinical practice. This study will inform the development of a fully powered follow-on trial testing the hypothesis that RDSI plus usual care is superior to usual care alone in the effective management of this symptom cluster in lung cancer. Aim The purpose of the paper was to compare the prevalence of barriers to optimum postoperative pain management in elderly patients, observed by nurses in a clinical, provincial and municipal hospital in Poland. Background It is currently estimated that the lack of adequate pain management affects 80% of the global population and the phenomenon poses a serious problem in more than 150 countries. Methods A questionnaire-based study of 1602 nurses working at clinical, provincial and municipal hospitals. Results In the clinical hospitals barriers more often related to a poorly organised systems of care and obstacles in discussing pain management within the team. In provincial and municipal hospitals lack of uninform pain measurement was more evident. Conclusions Despite the availability of effective pain treatments in hospitals difficulties continue with communication, poorly organised care and limited access to clinical guidelines. Implications for nursing management Although there are possibilities of pain relief after surgery, they are still used insufficiently. Postoperative pain management in Poland needs considerable improvement. This study can contribute to the improvement of pain management quality by supporting and developing practical guidelines or management algorithms for nurses, facilitating the effective implementation of new pain management practices. Background. Haematology nurses in Singapore experience a highly stressful work environment and increased workload due to the growing number of patients and complex treatment regimens. High job demands can lead to burnout and high staff turnover rates, which compromises the quality of patient care. Aims. To assess perceived work demands, levels of social support from colleagues, professional quality of life (ProQOL), and turnover intentions among haematology nurses and examine whether demographic and occupational characteristics, perceived job demands, and support were associated with ProQOL and turnover intentions. Design. A descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional design was used in this study. Methods. A convenience sample of 60 haematology nurses working at a tertiary hospital in Singapore completed a self-administered survey. Perceived job demands, support from colleagues, ProQOL, and turnover intentions were measured using the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III), Professional Quality of Life Scale version 5 (ProQOL5), and Turnover Intention Scale (TIS-6). Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and multiple linear regressions were employed for data analysis. Results. Haematology nurses face high cognitive and emotional demands and receive high levels of support from colleagues at work. The majority of the participants reported moderate to high levels of compassion satisfaction (78.3%), burnout (76.7%), and secondary traumatic stress (81.7%). 53.3% of the participants expressed their intention to leave. Perceived job demands were significant predictors of haematology nurses' ProQOL and turnover intentions. Compassion fatigue also significantly predicts turnover intentions. Conclusion. The high levels of burnout and secondary traumatic stress reported by haematology nurses highlight an urgent need to implement strategies to help nurses cope with the high work demands and reduce their levels of compassion fatigue. The findings in this study can help nursing leaders understand haematology nurses' perceived job demands and ProQOL, to develop strategies to improve the workplace environment and retention. Following changes in the structure and funding of the Australian medical system, patients have become 'consumers' or 'clients'. Family and friends have become 'carers' or 'caregivers', signifying their increased responsibilities as patients move from hospitals to communities. While policy makers embrace the term 'carer', some argue that the title is not widely recognised and has disempowering connotations. This paper examines spouses' reflections on the term 'carer' based on qualitative interviews with 32 Australians caring for a spouse with cancer from a study conducted between 2006 and 2009. Recruitment involved survey and snowball sampling. Following a grounded theory approach, data collection and analysis were performed simultaneously. Using Holland and colleagues' sociocultural 'identity as practice' theory and a thematic approach to analysis, findings depict identification with the 'spouse' and 'carer' label as relationally situated and dependent on meaningful interaction. Although others argue that the term 'carer' is a 'failure', these findings depict identification with the label as contextual, positional and enacted, not fixed. Furthermore, and of most significance to practitioners and policy makers, the title has value, providing carers with an opportunity to position themselves as entitled to inclusion and support, and providing health professionals with a potential indicator of a spouse's increased burden. Aims This paper compares the perceptions of nurse managers and nurses about self-leadership of professional nurses while taking ownership of capacity building during unit management. Background The Nursing Strategy for South Africa states that the competency of nurses is dependent upon factors that lead to capacity building. Method A quantitative design was followed by conducting a survey. The target population included nurse managers and professional nurses working at an academic public hospital in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. Results The findings indicate shortcomings in relation to advising professional nurses about self-direction while taking ownership of their daily pressures and stresses associated with unit management. Conclusion Professional nurses should develop their confidence by focusing on their self-leadership strengths when managing a unit. Background: Internet-based interventions can help smokers to quit compared with brief written materials or no intervention. However, they are not widely used, particularly by more disadvantaged smokers, and there is significant variation in their effectiveness. A new smoking cessation website (‘StopAdvisor’) has been systematically developed on the basis of PRIME theory, empirical evidence, web-design expertise and user-testing with socio-economically disadvantaged smokers. This paper reports the protocol of a randomised controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of StopAdvisor and determine whether it translates across the social spectrum.Methods: The trial has two arms with participants randomised to the offer of the interactive ‘StopAdvisor’ website (intervention condition) or a non-interactive, static website (control condition). Participants are adults from the UK, who smoke every day and are willing to make a serious quit attempt within a month of enrolment. At least 4260 participants will be recruited with a minimum of 2130 in each of two socio-economic sub-groups. The intervention comprises a structured quit plan and a variety of theory- and evidence-based behaviour change techniques for smoking cessation. Tailored support is offered in the form of a series of tunnelled sessions and a variety of interactive menus for use up to a month before, and then for one month after quitting (http://www.lifeguideonline.org/player/play/stopadvisordemonstration). The control is a static website that presents brief and standard advice on smoking cessation. Assessments are at baseline and 2-, 4- and 7-months post-enrolment. The primary outcome measure will be Russell Standard 6-months sustained abstinence, defined as self-reported continuous abstinence verified by saliva cotinine or anabasine at 7-month follow-up. Secondary outcome measures will include 7-day point-prevalence abstinence at 7-month follow-up, self-reported abstinence at 2- and 4-month follow-ups, satisfaction ratings of the website and quantitative indices of website interaction. All analyses will be by intention to treat and the main analysis will compare the two conditions on the primary outcome measure using a logistic regression model, adjusted for baseline characteristics. The efficacy of the intervention across the social spectrum will be assessed by a logistic regression focusing on the interaction between condition and socio-economic disadvantage.Trial registration: ISRCTN99820519. Purpose. To maintain the quality of patients care, head nurses (HNs) are confronting various contradicting issues that require the ability to manage polarities and concern coaching behaviors as exploring situations, building alliances, and maintaining communication with nurses. This study aimed to explore the effect of HNs' workplace polarity management educational intervention on their coaching behaviors. Design. A quasiexperimental (pre-posttest) research design was used. Method. This study was conducted at Tanta International Teaching Hospital, on 12 HNs and 300 nurses using three tools: (I) a polarity management knowledge questionnaire; (II) a polarity map evaluation observational checklist; and (III) a nurses' perception of the HNs' coaching leadership behaviors questionnaire. The statistical tests used were as follows: the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the significance of the obtained results was judged at the 5% level; the marginal homogeneity test, ANOVA with repeated measures, the Wilcoxon signed ranks test, and the Friedman test. The study was conducted between end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. The educational intervention included 3 sessions: polarity management and the keys to manage it, polarity map (stability versus change), and head nurses' role in managing polarity and how it reflects on their coaching leadership behavior. HNs' ability to practice polarity management was classified into levels according to cutoff points: high >75%, moderate 60–75%, and low <60%. Results. Before intervention (66.7%, 100%) of head nurses had poor knowledge and low practice that changed after 3 months of intervention to be 58.3% and 41.7%, respectively. Before and 3 months after the intervention (70.0%, 33.7%) of nurses perceived that head nurses had a low and a moderate level of coaching, respectively. 70.0% of working nurses reported that they noticed that head nurses' coaching behaviors were low before the educational intervention, but the percentage decreased by half three months after the educational intervention. Conclusion. Implementing the educational intervention for head nurses about workplace polarity management significantly correlated with the nurses' perception of their HNs' coaching behaviors. Aim. To explore academic and clinical nurses' perceptions and experiences on academic-practice partnership in evidence-based practice. Background. Academic-practice partnership could promote evidence-based practice which is crucial for high-quality care. Academic and clinical nurses are the foundation of the partnerships; however, there is little knowledge of their perceptions and experiences on academic-practice partnership in evidence-based practice. Methods. This is an interpretive description study. Twenty-two eligible participants were interviewed through face-to-face or online videoconferencing meetings. Guiding questions for the interviews focused on the perceptions and experiences of academic-practice partnership in the context of evidence-based practice. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and checked verbatim. We used constant comparative analysis to analyze the qualitative data. Results. Four themes with fifteen subthemes were generated: necessities, modes, challenges, and benefits of the academic-practice partnership in evidence-based practice. Participants believed that academic-practice partnership was a necessary strategy to promote evidence-based practice and could be built through different modes. Nevertheless, most academic-practice partnerships were superficial because of specific types of challenges. However, a good academic-practice partnership could create a win-win situation for both nursing academia and clinical practice. Conclusion. Academic-practice partnership is a win-win strategy for both the academic side and clinical side to promote evidence-based practice. Different modes of academic-practice partnership provide academic and clinical nurses with more opportunities to promote evidence-based practice with a higher likelihood of successful implementation. However, related challenges require multilevel measures to provide better environments to initiate, build, and maintain intensive collaborations between academic and clinical nurses. Academic and clinical organizations, leaders, and individuals should take multilevel measures to initiate, build, and maintain a close academic-practice partnership to promote evidence-based practice, which is crucial for high-quality nursing care, patient safety, and nursing discipline development. Background. Worldwide, hospitals are required to prioritize the culture of quality in infection prevention (CQIP) for patient safety. Assessing CQIP is crucial, but there is limited research, especially regarding nurses' perceptions. Insufficient information exists due to scarcity of validated instruments in local languages to measure CQIP internationally. Purpose. This study assessed the "Leading a Culture of Quality in Infection Prevention Scale" Russian version's (LCQ-IPS-R) validity and reliability to assess the CQIP of hospitals in Kazakhstan based on nurses' perceptions. Methods. This study utilized a methodological design and analyzed data from 204 nurses at the "National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health" in Astana City, Kazakhstan. The "cultural and linguistic adaptation" process involved a "forward-backward translation" technique. Content validity and construct validity were examined. Internal consistency reliability was explored for scale reliability. Results. The scale's mean item range was from 3.56 (SD = 1.22) to 4.40 (SD = 0.85; SD = 0.92). The corrected item-total correlation ranged from 0.321 to 0.707. Six experts rated the I-CVI from 0.83 to 1.00, with an S-CVI/Ave of 0.90. The principal component analysis with Varimax rotation produced four distinct components of the LCQ-IPS-R, explaining 69.8% of the total variance. The tests of correlation between the LCQ-IPS-R's four components revealed medium to large positive associations among the components (r = 0.25–0.55, p < 0.001). The computed α for the LCQ-IPS-R was 0.909 while α values from four subscales ranged from 0.809 to 0.921. Conclusions/Implications for Practice. This study provides evidence of the LCQ-IP-R's reliability and validity in evaluating Russian-speaking nurses' perception of their hospital's CQIP. These findings open the door for further research on CQIP in healthcare settings in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and other Russian-speaking countries. Background. Cardiovascular diseases are the second leading cause of mortality, disability, and reduced productivity in women over 40 years and the first cause of mortality in women over 60 years. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of educational intervention based on theory of planned behavior (TPB) on health-promoting lifestyle in women susceptible to cardiovascular diseases. Methods. This quasiexperimental study was conducted on 200 women susceptible to cardiovascular diseases referred to health centers in Fasa city, Fars province, Iran. The available sampling was performed on women who referred to the centers and had a family record. In this study, two health-promoting lifestyle questionnaires consisting of 49 questions and the theory of planned behavior questionnaire consisting of 50 questions were used. The obtained data were analyzed by using the SPSS software version 24 in two stages before and six months after the educational intervention through paired t-test, independent t-test, chi-square test, and McNemar test. Results. The mean age of women in the experimental and control groups was 38.74 ± 9.22 and 39.14 ± 9.08 years, respectively. The results showed a significant increase in the experimental group after six months of intervention in terms of health-promoting lifestyle and constructs of the theory of planned behavior. Also, mean blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and smoking of experimental group decreased six months after the educational intervention. Conclusion. Considering the irreplaceable role of education in adopting healthy behaviors and the role of women in strengthening the family foundation, quality educational programs should be designed and regularly implemented by health care providers for women. Background. The high turnover rate of new nurses is significantly impacted by the transition issue. Practice readiness has been identified as a key factor in ensuring a smooth transition, but there is currently a lack of specific instruments available in China to measure it. Aims. To translate and adapt the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey and validate its psychometric properties in senior nursing students in the Chinese cultural context. Methods. The descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. The English version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey was translated into Chinese according to Brislin's translation guidelines. A total of 590 senior nursing students from three nursing schools in China were surveyed with the Chinese version of the Readiness for Practice Instrument. Data analyses were performed to assess the reliability and validity of the instrument. The STROBE guidelines were used as the reporting method. Results. The validated Chinese version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey contained 18 items in the same four dimensions as the original English version. The internal consistency was satisfactory, with Cronbach's α and composite reliability values for all four dimensions above 0.70. The final confirmatory factor analysis model also demonstrated good fit indices, with the average variance extracted values for all dimensions above 0.50. Conclusion. The validated Chinese version of the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey is a reliable and effective instrument for measuring the readiness for practice among senior nursing students in China. This study presents a valuable contribution to adapting an effective and reliable tool to assess readiness for practice among Chinese senior undergraduate nursing students. Background. Freezing of Gait (FoG) is a disabling symptom of Parkinson's Disease (PD) and is defined as a "brief episodic absence or marked reduction of forward progression of the feet despite the intention to walk." Compensatory strategies such as cueing and high frequency vibrotactile stimulation can reduce FoG severity and improve gait parameters. A new Sternal high frequency Vibrotactile Stimulation Device (SVSD) with cueing function has been developed, however the clinical effects of this device are yet to be fully investigated. Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate, if the proposed study design using a SVSD and gait analysis sensor insoles was acceptable for people with PD. Methods. This feasibility study was designed as a randomized cross-over study. Thirteen participants took part in a one off 60-minute data collection session. The acceptability of the study design was assessed with a mixed methods questionnaire considering each step of the study process. Secondary outcome measures were the feasibility of using the 10 Metre Walk Test (10MWT), the Freezing of Gait Score (FoG-Score), and Patient Global Impression of Change (PGI-C) with and without the SVSD. Results. The participants scored all aspects of the study design as very satisfactory. In addition, all participants could perform the secondary outcome measures and were deemed feasible. Feedback from open ended questions provided ideas and considerations for adaptations of future clinical studies. Conclusion. The proposed study design was acceptable for people with PD. Implications. Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscle which requires energy expenditure is known as physical activity (PA). WHO has recommended that at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity PA or a combination of both per week is required for health benefits. Physical inactivity is one of the strongest risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and other conditions and is attributable to 6% of global premature death. However, data on the PA of teachers are unavailable in Nepal. They are considered one of the risk groups for NCDs because of the less active nature of their job. So, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the educational intervention based on the theory of planned behaviour on PA intention among secondary school teachers in Bhaktapur district, Nepal. For this study, we recruited 126 teachers from 6 schools. Each intervention and control group contained three randomly selected secondary schools. All the teachers from the selected schools were enrolled in the respective groups. A quasiexperimental (pretest-posttest control group) study design was used to test the effectiveness of the intervention on attitude, behaviour control, subjective norms, and intention for engaging in regular PA. Both groups underwent baseline and follow-up assessments at four weeks using the self-administered questionnaire developed for this study. The intervention group delivered a one-hour lecture session supported by audio-video materials for PA promotion. The effect was analysed by comparing the changes in the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) constructs within and between intervention and control groups. The difference in scores between and within the groups was tested using Student's t -test. Adjusted difference-in-difference scores were calculated through linear regression. Data analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Science version 26.0. The adjusted mean score increase in TPB constructs due to the interaction of time and intervention increased from 0.641 to 1.381. The highest gain (beta = 1.381) was seen in the intention score, while a minor improvement was seen in perceived behavioural control (beta = 0.641). After the intervention, the net increase in PA intention score was 9.35% compared to the control group. Thus, the promotion package was effective in increasing PA intention. Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe factors affecting the place of death of children with cancer at the end of life. Methods: The descriptive phenomenological approach was used. Eighteen mothers who lost their children to cancer participated in in‐depth interviews. Data were analysed using MAXQDA software version. Codes and categories were developed inductively from participants' narratives. Results: The factors affecting the place of death of children were categorised into two main themes: (1) desires and (2) conditions. Most of the mothers reported that their deceased children wanted to be with their families at the end of life and they wanted to go home. The conditions related to health services were defined as the barriers to the death of their children in the places of death preferred by the mothers. Conclusion: The desire to be close to the child was the main factor affecting the parents' decisions. The findings revealed the prevailing circumstances in the death place decision beyond parental desires. These were the child's health conditions, physical conditions of hospitals, and the lack of home care and paediatric palliative care services, which were factors related to the system, and the lack of other options for parents. Objectives: The COVID‐19 pandemic's ongoing effects and long‐term implications for the mental and social state of cancer patients are not yet fully known. The current study examined cancer patients' feelings about the pandemic's long‐term impact on daily life 1 year after its outbreak in Israel and after the patient's vaccination against the virus. Methods: Ten in‐depth semi‐structured interviews were conducted with cancer patients between February and April 2021. Results and Conclusions: Findings indicated four main themes: (1) managing medical care and support from the medical staff, (2) the effect of the pandemic on social interactions; (3) the impact of the pandemic on family and social support and (4) the patients' psychological well‐being. Despite the patients being vaccinated, the full impact of the pandemic on cancer patients' mental and social states is still fully apparent. The findings reflect the need to assess and monitor the patients' mental state and social and medical needs during this complex time and the importance of developing external support networks. Information about the level of distrust in healthcare systems is very limited in Chinese populations, and no validated instrument has been developed to measure this distrust. Therefore, to begin addressing this research gap, this study evaluated the psychometric properties of a traditional Chinese version of the Revised Health Care System Distrust Scale and used it to assess the level of distrust in a healthcare system. The study involved a community‐based personal interview survey of individuals in Hong Kong. A total of 340 men were randomly recruited. In addition to the distrust instrument, the two‐item Trust in Physician Scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 were used. The two‐factor structure of the distrust scale was confirmed. The item‐total correlations corrected for overlap were >0.4 for both the Competence and Values Distrust subscales, confirming the internal construct validity of the scale. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.77 for both subscales. The scores of both the Competence and Values subscales were moderately negatively correlated with the total score of the Trust in Physician Scale, providing support for convergent validity. Regarding known‐group validity, the scale could differentiate people according to marital status, monthly personal income and severity of depressive symptoms. Moreover, we found that men who had previously undergone prostate cancer screening had higher Values Distrust scores than those who had not. The descriptive analysis showed that only about half of the participants reported that they received high‐quality medical care and that the healthcare system provided excellent medical care, suggesting that more effort is needed to improve the quality of care and people's satisfaction with healthcare in Hong Kong. In summary, the translated traditional Chinese version of the Revised Health Care System Distrust Scale used in this study is a valid and reliable scale for assessing the level of distrust in a healthcare system. Background: The recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has imposed severe psychological pressure on nurses. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective in improving professional quality of life (ProQOL) and reducing psychological distress in a wide range of populations and contexts. However, its role in supporting critical care nurses during the outbreak of COVID‐19 has yet to be established. Purpose: This study explores the relationship of mindfulness with negative emotional states and ProQOL among nurses working in critical care units during COVID‐19 pandemic. Methods: A cross‐sectional descriptive correlational design was used. A sample of 156 critical care nurses completed self‐reported measures of mindfulness, ProQOL, and negative emotional states. Multiple regressions were used to address the study purpose. Results: Overall, the participants had severe anxiety, moderate depression, moderate stress, moderate burnout, moderate secondary traumatic stress, and moderate compassion satisfaction. Mindfulness was significantly and negatively associated with stress (r = − 0.230, p =.004), depression (r = − 0.190, p =.018), burnout (r = − 0.218, p =.007), and secondary traumatic stress (r = − 0.168, p =.037). Mindfulness explained 3% of the variance in depression (B = −0.19, p =.018), 3.9% of variance in stress, (B = −0.201, p =.012), 4.2% of variance in BO (B = −0.206, p =.009), and 2.2% of the variance in secondary traumatic stress (B = −0.168, t = −2.104, p =.037), controlling for demographics. Conclusions: The current study provides preliminary evidence that mindfulness can be helpful in reducing critical care nurses' psychological distress and promoting their ProQOL, and is worthy of further investigation in this population. Objective. This study expects to investigate and verify the intervention effect of the university's innovative teaching management model on college students' resilience by implementing the university's innovative teaching management model for college students with low psychological resilience. Method. The scientific scale is used to investigate the current level of college students' psychological resilience, and the development characteristics of college students' psychological resilience are obtained through statistical analysis. Based on the theoretical analysis of the application of psychological resilience intervention, combined with the theory of one-to-one tutoring and operational techniques, the university's innovative teaching management mode scheme is designed. The design adopts a quasi-experimental pre-experimental test to investigate and explore the intervention effect system of the university's innovative teaching management mode on college students' psychological resilience. In the intervention, each unit of activity is carried out in strict accordance with the established plan, and records and reflections are made at the end. One-to-one and face-to-face qualitative interviews were conducted with the subjects, and qualitative data were collected for qualitative analysis. Results/Discussion. Compared with the control group that did not receive the intervention, the psychological resilience of the subjects in the experimental group was significantly improved after receiving the intervention of the university's innovative teaching management model. The university's innovative teaching management model has a good intervention effect on the resilience of college students. The university's innovative teaching management model scheme compiled in this study integrates a variety of psychotherapy methods and combines one-to-one psychological counseling frameworks and techniques. Aim: The aim of the current study was to examine the relationship between work engagement and perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy among registered nurses in Jordanian hospitals. Background: Nurses constitute the backbone of the health care system. Work engagement among nurses is critical due to its various positive outcomes: it enhances job satisfaction, job performance, organisation commitment and emotional health. According to the job demand–resource model, perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy increase work engagement. Method: A cross‐sectional, descriptive and correlational design and multistage cluster sampling were implemented. A total of 186 registered nurses were recruited. Self‐administered questionnaires were used to collect data from the participants. Results: Nurses showed an average level of work engagement. The dedication subscale showed the highest score among the three subscales representing work engagement. The results showed that perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy were positively correlated with work engagement (p <.01). Conclusion: Perceived organisational support and self‐efficacy correlated positively with work engagement. Implications for nursing management: An effort should be made to provide a supportive work environment by offering training programmes, sufficient job resources and positive feedback, which, in turn, improve nurses' work attitudes, self‐efficacy, perception of the work environment and intention to stay in a health organisation. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of emotional freedom technique (EFT) on sleep quality and happiness of women who underwent breast cancer surgery and lived in military and nonmilitary families. Design and Methods: The patients were randomly divided into four groups of military intervention (n = 34), nonmilitary intervention (n = 33), military control (n = 31), and nonmilitary control (n = 35). Data were collected using demographic information form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. Findings: The mean scores of sleep quality and happiness in military and nonmilitary intervention groups improved significantly immediately and 1 month after the intervention compared to control groups (p < 0.001). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the military and nonmilitary intervention groups regarding the mean scores of sleep quality and happiness before, immediately, and 1 month after the intervention (p > 0.05). Practice Implications: Given the efficacy of EFT in improving sleep quality and happiness, it is recommended that this technique be taught to nurses to implement in the entire process of providing nursing care to cancer patients. Purpose: To assess the psychometric properties of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), and evaluate the indirect effect of social phobia between perfectionism and life satisfaction (LS). Methods: A cross‐sectional study enrolled 683 Lebanese adults (April–May 2021). Results: The confirmatory factor analysis results confirmed the one‐factor solution of the SPIN items (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92). Social phobia had an indirect effect in the association between rigid, self‐critical, and narcissistic perfectionism and life satisfaction. Practice Implications: The study results confirm the psychometric properties of the SPIN to assess social phobia and constitute a preliminary database of the variables that interplay with LS in the Lebanese population. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of a psychoeducational program on the cognitive emotion regulation levels of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Design and Method: This study followed a randomized, controlled quasi‐experimental design. A questionnaire including descriptive characteristics and disease‐related characteristics and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire were used in the data collection. Findings: The difference between the pretest–posttest and follow‐up test mean scores of the patients in the experimental group was significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The psychoeducation program based on the rational emotional behavioral approach increased the use of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in individuals with MS. Objective. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™) 4.0 is a health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measure designed for clinical practice and research, health policy evaluation, and general population surveys. There is a dearth of instruments measuring quality of life in children which are available in Chinese and validated for Chinese populations. Therefore, this study attempted to establish the Hong Kong populations' norms for the Chinese version of PedsQL™ and examined the psychometric properties of the measure for this population. Methods. Sixty-nine children (aged 7 to 12 years) and their parents completed the child self-report and the parent proxy report, respectively, of the PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Module. To evaluate construct validity, a group comparison of children with special educational needs (SEN) (n = 21) and those with typical development (TD) (n = 48) was conducted. Differences based on age group and gender and parent–child agreement on the perception of the child's HRQOL were also examined. Results. Children with SEN had a lower quality of life perception than those with TD in the physical, social, and schooling domains. No significant differences in emotional health were found between the two groups. The differences between the children with SEN and with TD varied based on age group and gender. The differences between the parents' and children's perceptions of the children's HRQOL were insignificant in this sample. Conclusion. Norms for the Chinese version of the PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Module for the Hong Kong population were established in the study, and both the child self-report and parent proxy report were found to be reliable and valid for this population. Utilising telepractice videoconferencing technology to offer home visitation services has the potential to provide access and parenting support through a high‐tech and high‐touch service delivery option. Families can receive evidence‐based, family support intervention from their home via videoconferencing technology, removing the need for the provider to be physically in the home. While the expansion of telehealth and telepractice services for families is essential for meeting the needs of both parents and their children, well‐documented engagement barriers to digital health/computer‐mediated interventions exist across treatment modalities and technology platforms. Semi‐structured interviews with 15 providers were conducted and analysed to identify engagement strategies utilised to sustain families in a home visitation model offered through live videoconferencing technology on a telehealth platform. Analysis revealed four themes that were deemed essential for successfully attracting and maintaining families in a telepractice‐based home visitation programme: (a) engagement strategies to encourage families to participate; (b) clinical skills used within sessions; (c) articulation of benefits to the family; and (d) exploration of rationale for ending services. This study was able to identify strategies for engagement and sustained involvement of families in telehealth‐based home visitation. Health providers often focus on secondary conditions and spend less time prioritising overweight/obesity care. Informal caregivers are well positioned to facilitate health‐promoting behaviours of healthy eating and physical activity among community‐dwelling care recipients with spinal cord injury (SCI) for prevention and management of overweight/obesity. Literature has typically focused on caregiver adjustment post‐injury and burden related to their roles in secondary condition care. The novel objective of this study was to describe informal caregivers' perspectives of their roles in facilitating health‐promoting weight management behaviours, healthy eating and physical activity, for care recipients with SCI. This was a qualitative study that used semi‐structured interviews with informal caregivers for data collection in 2019. Braun & Clarke's established thematic phases were used for analysis. Participants included informal caregivers of individuals with SCI living in the community (n = 24). Caregivers identified eight themes to describe their role in facilitating weight management for care recipients. Themes included: (1) meal planning/shopping, (2) meal preparation/cooking, (3) using portion control, (4) serving/feeding, (5) helping the care recipient with physical activity and/or leisure activities, (6) mutually participating in weight management activities, (7) providing motivation and encouragement and (8) being an information liaison. In summary, informal caregivers have an intimate understanding of care recipients' needs and have insights on obstacles and enablers to health‐promoting behaviours, making their involvement in facilitating weight management in individuals with SCI vital. Caregivers self‐identified several significant roles for promoting weight management. This is especially valuable for conditions such as overweight/obesity for which prevention and treatment involve health‐promoting behaviours that need consistent attention in the community setting. It is important to ensure that informal caregivers and care recipients have the information required in order to facilitate healthy eating and physical activity in persons with SCI and have opportunities for mutual dyadic participation when both partners are interested. One in four American women will experience a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death each time she becomes pregnant. These perinatal losses occur even more frequently in women who are immigrants from developing countries. Care of Muslim families after perinatal loss is based primarily on expert opinion as opposed to research evidence, as few, if any, studies exist on this topic. It is critically important to know what parent's preferences for care actually are, since care that is incongruent with the desires of the bereaved parents may intensify their grief. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions and attitudes of immigrant Arab Muslims regarding psychosocial bereavement practices common in the United States after perinatal loss and to pilot test an investigator‐developed instrument for collecting data regarding culturally relevant psychosocial bereavement practices of immigrant Arab Muslims after perinatal loss. The study employed a cross‐sectional survey design using an investigator‐developed instrument entitled the Arab Muslim Perceptions of Perinatal Loss Care (AMPPLC). The AMPPLC, available in both English and Arabic, was used to collect data on perinatal loss care from a convenience sample of 79 immigrant Arab Muslim adults (male n = 43 [54.4%]; female n = 36 [45.6%]). The study opened in June 2017 and closed in August 2019. The AMPPLC instrument demonstrated good reliability (α = 0.89) in measuring participants' responses. Responses by survey participants did not always agree with prior published literature on Muslim preferences after a loss. Optimal care for Arab Muslim immigrants involves offering all options that are typically part of Western bereavement care as well as options that may be more specifically associated with Islam. This information will enable healthcare providers to provide more culturally sensitive and compassionate care to Middle Eastern Muslim parents during this difficult and tragic experience. Introduction. Poor decision-making power on family planning among married women is a public health concern. Despite this, there is a scarcity of research done on decision-making power of family planning use as one of their basic human rights. The study is aimed at determining the magnitude of married women's decision-making power on family planning use and its associated factors. Methods. This was a community-based cross-sectional study that was conducted on married women from May, 01-30/2021. A multistage systematic random sampling technique was applied to select 620 eligible study participants. The study used semi-interviewer questionnaires to collect data, and the collected data were entered into EpiInfo version 3.7.2 and then exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used. The strength of associations of variables was described by using odds ratio, 95% confidence level, and P values less than 0.05. Results. A total of 620 women were interviewed with 98% of the response rate. Overall, married women's decision-making power on family planning was 440 (71.0%). Odds of decision-making power on family planning use were higher among women who have primary education (AOR = 11.31 , CI: 4.90-26.09) and secondary and above (AOR = 6.99 , CI: 3.89-12.56) as compared with those who have no education. Husbands with secondary and above educational level (AOR = 3.27 , CI: 1.58-6.78), having good knowledge about family planning use (AOR = 2.41 , CI: 1.48-3.95) and having a good attitude towards family planning (AOR = 6.59 , CI: 4.01-10.75), had higher odds of decision-making power on family planning. Conclusion. Women's educational status, knowledge, and attitude increased the odds of decision-making power on family planning. Baby‐led weaning or self‐regulated small chunk feeding by the baby has emerged as an alternative to the traditional method of complementary feeding. Parents and healthcare professionals often differ in the benefits and drawbacks about it. The research aims were to describe the knowledge of health professionals about complementary feeding and baby‐led weaning (BLW) method and the attitudes towards its recommendation, and to explore the knowledge, experiences and attitudes of parents who have used this method to feed their children. A mixed methods research was carried out. A questionnaire was completed by 38 health professionals and 10 interviews were conducted with participating mothers. A total of 52.6% of health professionals recommended initiating complementary feeding at 6 months of age, a guideline followed by the mothers who used BLW. Some 86.8% of the professionals knew the BLW method and 76.3% knew its benefits, but the mothers consulted mainly informal sources of information sources to learn about and implement it. The health professionals stated that it facilitated family transition, enabled the infant to adapt better to flavours and textures, promoted chewing and the development of fine motor skills, improved growth and might also be a protective factor against obesity. The mothers noted that the method was natural, encouraged infant autonomy and promoted healthy eating habits. The health professionals expressed varied opinions concerning the risks entailed in the method. The main conclusions are that the majority of health professionals participating in the study know the BLW method, its benefits; however, they do not recommend it in all cases. Background: According to the literature, self‐care in persons with heart failure is inadequate. Such inadequate levels of self‐care necessitate a thorough investigation of the potential predictors. Purpose: To: (a) determine the level of self‐care among persons with heart failure in Jordan; (b) determine the relationship between mindfulness, impulsivity, and self‐care among persons with heart failure; (c) investigate the potential moderation effect of impulsivity on the relationship between mindfulness and self‐care. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted. A convenience sample of 100 persons with heart failure in an outpatient clinic at King Abdullah University Hospital was recruited. The following tools were used to collect the data via phone survey: Self‐Care of Heart Failure Index, Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Results: The sample consisted of 78 male and 22 female persons with heart failure. The effect of mindfulness was statistically significant only on self‐care symptom perception, and not significant on other aspects of self‐care. Impulsivity moderated only the effect of mindfulness on self‐care symptom perception. Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between mindfulness and impulsivity (r = −.532, p <.01). Introduction. This study aimed to assess higher secondary school teachers' knowledge, attitude, and performance levels towards organ transplantation and donation (OTD). Teachers have an essential role in giving knowledge to children and teenagers, and they can influence their views. Organ transplantation offers re-life to many patients, yet organ shortages are a global issue. Teachers who influence students' future attitudes regarding organ donation must have a favorable attitude and genuine knowledge. Materials and Methods. The research method was descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample size was 372 school teachers in Villupuram district of Tamilnadu, India, selected using a convenient sampling method. A survey questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge and attitude about OTD, the reason for donating/not donating organs. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify critical variables affecting intent to practice. Results. The teachers' mean scores with SD on knowledge, attitude, and performance were 7.61 ± 2.74 , 8.81 ± 2.08 , and 0.38 ± 0.11 , respectively. The linear regression analysis showed that the knowledge (p < 0.001) and attitude (p < 0.05) of the participants were positively associated with organ donation performance. A significant relationship was also observed between gender (p < 0.036), age (p < 0.01), and education status (p < 0.001) with the performance of the teachers. Lack of family support was the most spelt reason for unwillingness for organ donation. Conclusion. The positive linear correlations underline that having more information may lead to a more optimistic mindset and, as a result, to better practices. Teachers should be provided with overall health teaching campaigns to increase the number of possible organ donors. Suicide in adolescents constitutes a public health problem throughout the world. The objective of this study was to identify the prevalence of suicidal behaviour in a public middle school in Mexico and to implement appropriate educational interventions in the school and community contexts. Our work took place from September 2017 to July 2018. We conducted a quasi‐experimental, mixed‐methodology study with 12‐year‐old students in first year of middle school (n = 29), using an educational intervention approach within the frame of the Life Skills Education methodology. We included family members and academic staff in the study with the view of sensitising them to suicidal behaviour. At the community level, we worked with the adolescent and adult populations to form 'gatekeepers' (guardians). We administered a questionnaire on psychosocial indicators of depression and suicide risk to 383 students in their first‐to‐third years of middle school. Other questionnaires were applied, and life skills focus groups (FGs) were organised with the educational intervention participants. The questionnaires addressed suicidal behaviour in adolescents, alcohol consumption, life skills and prosociality. Prevalence of attempted suicide cases came to 14.1% (95 CI% 10.7–17.9), the average age of those who reported having hurt themselves with the purpose of taking their lives was 12.9 years, 75% of those who had attempted suicide were female and 64.8% had consumed alcohol. The educational intervention with students achieved a statistically significant increase in the life skills of participants, specifically as regards self‐awareness and overall scores. The family members in the FGs developed greater awareness of suicidal behaviour, and the adolescents engaged at the community level significantly broadened (p <.05) their knowledge of depression. In developing countries such as Mexico, it is essential not only to increase the number of interventions for preventing suicidal behaviour in adolescents, but also to improve instruments for measuring the extent of the problem. Aim: This study examined the confidence level and perceived barriers to providing ostomy care among staff nurses in Saudi Arabia. Background: Patients with ostomies experience increased comfort and satisfaction when nurses are confident in their knowledge and skills. Design: A descriptive, cross‐sectional design was used to conduct the research. The study included a convenience sample of 214 staff nurses from five hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The researchers used a survey questionnaire to gauge participants' confidence in their knowledge and skills, as well as identify any perceived barriers to ostomy care. Result: Overall, 95.1% of participants worked in adult care and 82.2% worked in surgical areas. There were significant relationships between the nurses' confidence in their ostomy care knowledge and skills and their years of nursing experience and having received ostomy care training in nursing school (p <.05); however, the nurses' level of education had no correlation (p >.05). Conclusion: While the majority of nurses were confident in their ability to care for patients with ostomies, they were concerned about causing stoma problems. Background. Despite the high burden of malnutrition in the country, there is a lack of a simple and valid tool to screen elders in Ethiopia. The Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) tool has been validated for comprehensive geriatric assessment to identify malnutrition in other countries. However, there is a lack of evidence on the potential validity and reliability of the tool for institutionalized elders in Ethiopia. This study was aimed at determining the validity and predictive performance of MNA tool for malnutrition among Ethiopian institutionalized elderly. Methods. A facility-based survey was conducted on randomly selected 164 elders in geriatric centers to evaluate the validity, reliability, and predictive performance of full MNA against hemoglobin (Hgb) and ideal body weight (IBW) measured under standard procedures. The data was presented in ROC graphs, and reliability was evaluated with Cronbach alpha. The receiver-operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to assess the predictive performance of the tool. The area under the curve (AUC) with its 95% CI was reported. The Youden index, at maximum sensitivity and specificity, was used to obtain optimal cutoff points. Results. The internal consistency of the tool was good (α = 0.80). The full MNA score can better predict Hgb (AUC = 0.845 ; 0.783-0.899) and percentage of IBW (AUC = 0.90 ; 0.842-0.941) at specified cutoff points. A full MNA can predict malnutrition or risk of malnutrition based on percentage IBW at a sensitivity and specificity of 97.3% and 72.2%, respectively. Conclusions. The aim of this study was to explore the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of people in mid-life towards cancer prevention. The study was undertaken in Northern Ireland between 2003 and 2007. This was a mixed methods study using a sequential exploratory design. The theoretical framework was the Theory of Planned Behaviour and the methodology was based on Sutton's framework. There were three methodological stages in the study using focus groups, a large cross-sectional survey and a volunteer sample survey. This paper focuses on the findings of the cross-sectional survey relating to the attitudes of people in mid-life towards cancer and cancer prevention. Findings are considered in relation to the respondents' level of knowledge, age, gender, level of educational attainment and socio-economic status. Evidence from this study shows that attitudes towards cancer and cancer prevention are associated significantly with level of knowledge about cancer, gender, socio-economic status and level of educational attainment. In conclusion, the evidence from this study shows that men, those with a lower level of education, those with a lower level of knowledge and those in a lower socio-economic group were more likely to hold negative attitudes about cancer and cancer prevention. Aim: To explore the mobilization of nurses/midwives in a designated hospital group in Ireland during a global pandemic. Background: The recent global pandemic has resulted in the large‐scale worldwide mobilization of registered nurses and midwives working in the acute care sector. There is a dearth of literature reporting the mobilization of this professional workforce. Method: Mixed‐methods design using an electronic survey and facilitated discussion across one Irish hospital group. Results: Eight of 11 hospitals responded to the survey. There was a 2% vacancy rate prior to the pandemic. Mobilization included reconfiguration of clinical areas and redeployment of 9% of the nursing/midwifery workforce within 2 weeks of the pandemic. A total of 11% (n = 343) of nurses/midwives were redeployed in 3 months. Nurses/midwives required re‐skilling in infection prevention control, enhancement of critical care skills and documentation. Conclusions: Three key areas were identified to enable the nursing workforce readiness. These are referred to as the three 'R's': Reconfiguration of specific resources, Redeployment of nurses to dedicated specialist areas and Re‐skilling of nurses to safely care for the patients during the pandemic. The global shortage of highly competent nurses has forced healthcare organizations to adapt to various strategies, including rotating nurses to different units, impacting their competency levels. To equip nurses with the needed competencies, the researchers developed the pediatric learning modules and conducted this study to analyze their effectiveness. Researchers employed purposive and random sampling to identify study participants, and utilized a mixed‐method design, including Solomon Four Group Design and a narrative approach. A researcher‐made evaluation questionnaire, competency checklists, and guide questions for a written narrative were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics and factorial analysis of covariance were utilized for data analysis. The outcomes revealed that demographic variables have no effect on knowledge and competence (p > 0.05). It was also discovered that exposure to learning modules enhanced the competence levels of nurses who were inexperienced in the pediatric setting (F = 41.183, df = 1, p = 0.000). Furthermore, results revealed that enhancing knowledge and competencies is not wholly dependent on well‐structured educational sessions and training modules, but is also influenced by other factors, including time allocation for module delivery, protected time to practice, and the opportunity to apply new skills in the clinical area. Background: The COVID‐19 pandemic interrupted face‐to‐face education and forced universities into an emergency remote teaching curriculum. Studies show that students' engagement, social presence, and satisfaction are critical factors for optimal online teaching. Purpose: Therefore, in this study, we sought to understand how the sudden transition to emergency remote teaching impacted nursing students' engagement and social presence, as well as how it affected their satisfaction with online courses in a middle‐eastern public university. Methods: A cross‐sectional descriptive correlative research design was adopted in this study. Data were collected through three questionnaires measuring students' engagement, social presence, and satisfaction with emergency remote teaching compared to the traditional approach from a sample of 177 nursing students. Results: Results indicate that students had a high level of engagement but low social presence and low satisfaction level with emergency remote teaching. Additionally, both engagement and social presence were positively associated with satisfaction. Conclusion: Our findings support the importance of engaging students and integrating social presence strategies into online courses to enhance nursing students' satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The efficacy of crisis planning in mental health services is contested. As recovery and self‐management are core to Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services and the Care Programme Approach (CPA), the views of EIP practitioners of the most useful aspects of crisis planning can inform this vital aspect of practice. We conducted a mixed methods study using a national cross‐sectional survey (n = 70) and semi‐structured interviews (n = 12) with EIP practitioners in England in 2019. Data were analysed using non‐parametric tests and thematic analysis. A Joint Crisis Plan (JCP) template was used as a benchmark to judge current practice by (Sutherby et al., 1999; Henderson et al., 2004; Thornicroft et al., 2013). The most useful crisis plan themes identified by practitioners included early warning signs, triggers and helpful treatments, although not all elements were considered useful. Additionally, the interviews identified that collaboration with clients, carers and other services; personalisation; and self‐management were all considered important in effective crisis planning. The practitioners also identified barriers to effective crisis planning, such as the electronic records system, lack of time and lack of available service provision. The research highlighted the important aspects of EIP and was significant in impacting the service and wider EIP network further. While crisis planning is a significant part of EIP, it does not appear to be consistently applied in practice. Fully implementing collaborative crisis planning in EIP services may require changes to policy, practice and local systems to ensure that crisis planning is as effective as possible. Background. Countries need vital statistics for social and economic planning. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least 80% coverage to use registration data on births and deaths for social and economic planning. However, registration remains low in developing countries. National coverage for Kenya in 2014 was 62.2% for births and 45.7% for deaths, with wide regional differentials. Kilifi County in the coastal region in Kenya reported rates below the national coverage at 56% for births and 41% for deaths in 2013. Objective. To determine level of knowledge and practice and reasons for low coverage of birth and death in Kilifi County. Method. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that employed multistage cluster random sampling procedure to select a sample of 420 households from which household heads and women with children below five years old were surveyed. Results. Out of the 420 households sampled, about all respondents (99%) were aware of birth registration while death was 77%. Their main sources of information were assistant chiefs at 77% for both birth and death registration and family and friends at 67% for deaths and 52% for births. Coverage for birth registration was 85% and death 63%. More deaths occurred at home (55%) than in hospital (44%) while 55% of deliveries occurred in hospital and 44% at home. Main reasons for not registering death were ignorance (77%) and transport and opportunity cost (21%) while for birth registration were ignorance (42%), travel and opportunity cost (41%), lack of identification documents (9%), and home deliveries (7%). Conclusion. Registration of birth and death has improved in Kilifi County. The drivers are legal and requirements to access social rights. Reasons for not registering are ignorance and opportunity costs. Community should be sensitized on the importance of registration, address home deliveries and deaths, and increase efficiency in registration. Further research is recommended to determine the severity of teenage pregnancy and orphanhood in the county. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the obsessive behaviors and coping behaviors of nursing students during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Design and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between October 4 and October 17, 2020. Findings: In this study, it was found that nursing students had a mean total COVID‐19 Obsessive Compulsive Scale score of 3.88 ± 3.02 and a mean total Ways of Coping Inventory (WCI) score of 47.05 ± 11.68. When the subscales of the WCI were examined, mean scores were found to be 13.64 ± 4.85 for the self‐confident approach, 8.91 ± 3.35 for the optimistic approach, 7.25 ± 2.24 for the seeking social support approach, 10.97 ± 4.43 for the helpless approach, and 6.24 ± 3.20 for the submissive approach. Practice Implications: Nursing students have low levels of obsession with COVID‐19 and moderate levels of coping behaviors. For this reason, it is very important to recognize the psychological symptoms of today's nursing students—the health workforce of the future—and to determine priorities for their solution. Aim: The present study aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses. Methods: Three phases were conducted: Phase I involved a qualitative research to explore and establish the potential items pool; Phase II reduced the items using the item analysis with a sample of 73 nurses. Phase III evaluated the psychometric properties of the final scale. Data from 814 valid questionnaires were analysed using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Five factors, including 'Interpersonal integration', 'Profession‐related positive emotion', 'Competence for nursing work', and 'Active coping strategies', 'Balance between work and life', accounted for 68.87% of total variance. Cronbach's α was 0.891. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable model fitness. Conclusions: The Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses has good psychometric properties. It can be used to measure the transition status conveniently and effectively. Implications for Nursing Management: The assessment result with the Transition Status Scale for Newly Graduated Nurses can provide information about the transition status of new nurses, thereby providing reference to guide the specific nursing interventions to smooth the transition process.
