The paper presents a comparative study, conducted in Croatia and Serbia, of the opinions expressed by the participants regarding safety management organisation. The study relied on the information gathered in the form of a written questionnaire containing 9 basic sets of questions. The questions covered general information on the participant and the company, and the views of the participants on safety management in the company where they were employed. The paper first focuses on the general theoretical background of safety management organisation. Following this introductory section are the results of the studies conducted in Serbia and Croatia. The goal of the comparative study was to pinpoint similarities and differences in safety management organisation in the two countries. Conclusions were drawn based on the comparisons of participants' views regarding the aspects of safety management organisation, implementation of particular organisational structures, types of organisational structure, and implementation of individual steps in the organisation process. Also assessed by the participants were the individual areas of the safety management system, impact of safety management organisation on safety implementation, and the persons responsible for the organisation of safety management. PSYCHOLOGICAL stress , *TEACHERS , *HIGHER education , *INTERPERSONAL relations , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *QUALITATIVE research , *DATA analysis - Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the sources of stress in the work of university teachers working in Croatia and to construct a questionnaire that would enable quantitative studies in this area. A qualitative study, aimed to determine the sources of stress at work, was conducted on a convenience sample of 34 higher education teachers in different academic ranks (assistants and professors), working in twelve faculties of the University of Zagreb and University in Split. Using the method of guided group discussions, we identified 125 characteristic sources of stress in the work that are logically categorized into nine content groups. Based on a qualitative study, we have constructed Questionnaire of Exposure to Stress in the Work for University Teachers and apply it on a sample of teachers (N=388) from three Croatian universities. After the implementation of confirmatory factor analysis procedures, the final questionnaire contains 68 items, which define the seven latent dimensions of sources of stress: Teaching and students, Consequences of the Bologna reform, Scientific-research work, Role-conflict, Remuneration and recognition, and Interpersonal relationships. The paper presents data on the metric characteristics of the structured questionnaire, and descriptive results of the pilot application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Companies frequently use a variety of methods to investigate the causes of employee stress with the aim to effectively reduce stress and thus preserve the health of the employees, reduce the number of sick leave days and increase work efficiency. The paper presents an example of a company that has implemented a systematic study of the causes of stress to its employees. All stages of one particular method are presented: interviews with the psychologist conducted with employees working in different work environments, drawing up a suitable questionnaire, circulating the questionnaire to the employees, results analysis, presentation of the results to the individual organisational units and formulation of a set of proposals for stress reduction/elimination. QUALITY of life , *MYOCARDIAL infarction , *LOGISTIC regression analysis , *THROMBOLYTIC therapy , *COHORT analysis , *ANGIOPLASTY , *PATIENTS - Abstract
Introduction Acute myocardial infarction has negative influence on patient's quality of life. The objective of the paper was to assess the health-related quality of life in the patients one month and twelve months after acute myocardial infarction and to compare it with the healthy controls. Material and Methods A prospective cohort study involved 160 patients aged from 30 to 79 and 240 healthy controls. The health-related quality of life was assessed with the Serbian version of these questionnaires: Euro- Quol-5-Dimension and EuroQuolVAS. Angina pectoris was ranked according to the classification of Canadian Cardiovascular Society. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used. Results The healthy controls had significantly higher average scores in EuroQuolVAS compared with the patients one month after acute myocardial infarction (74.35±9.42 vs 60.50±12.03, p<0.001), as well as twelve months afte acute myocardial infarction (74.35±9.42 vs 69.83±12.06, p<0.001). Significantly lower average ranges in EuroQuol-5-Dimension questionnaire and higher quality of life were found twelve months after acute myocardial infarction than one month after acute myocardial infarction (1.41±0.26 vs 1.53±0.26, p<0.001). The average ranges of angina pectoris were significantly lower in all the patients twelve months after acute myocardial infarction compared with the first month (0.78±0.51 vs 0.91±0.44, p<0.001). The multivariate regression analysis confirmed thrombolytic therapy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and age to be important factors influencing health-related quality of life. Conclusion The patients assessed their health condition to be significantly higher twelve months after acute myocardial infarction than one month after it. The health-related quality of life was significantly higher in patients who had undergone the percutaneous intervention than in those who had been treated with the thrombolytic therapy. LEARNING ability testing , *HIGHER education , *ACTIVE learning , *EDUCATIONAL change , *PERSONALITY & motivation , *ACADEMIC motivation , *QUESTIONNAIRES - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to establish if the Higher Education reforms, so-called Bologna process, have led to changes in attiude towards learning. Research was carried out on a total sample of 216 students, male and female, from the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula, 93 of whom had studied under the pre-Bologna process and 123 students who were studying under the new Higher Education program based on the principles of the Bologna Declaration. A questionnaire with sub-scales assessing organisation, fl exibility in learning, manner of processing information, use of aids, active participation in class, motivation and anxiety, was employed in order to examine their learning strategies. The results of the analysis point to the existence of statistically signifi cant differences between the groups in favour of students following the new system of studying: students who are studying under the Bologna system use aids significnatly more often, process the subject matter more thoroughly, are more flexible in learning, more active and more motivated than their predecessors. The differences obtained are examined in the context of modified conditions of studying and the new system of Higher Education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The quantity of information about proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis was determined based on specific questionnaires for children and their parents. Results The quantity of information about the effects of proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis on dental health of seven year old children is significantly larger in urban, as compared to the rural environment. The quantity of information of parents about the effects of proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis on dental health is larger in urban, as compared to the rural environment. OBESITY , *QUALITY of life , *MEDICAL personnel , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *BODY mass index - Abstract
Introduction The number of people who are considered to be either overweight or obese continues to increase, worldwide. The aim of the paper was to determine the influence of overweight on the quality of life of health workers. Material and methods The study of prevalence was used. We observed 108 health workers both men and women from the Institute for Public Health in the City of Niš. The questionnaire Obesity Related Well-Being 97 (ORWELL97) was applied in all health workers. Results A hundred and five health workers filled in the ORWELL97 questionnaire. There were 40% of men and 60% of women; 72% of them were married and 28% of them were single; 68% were from the urban area and 32% were from the rural area. The average age was 29.5 (SD=3.2) and the average value of BMI was 25.4 (SD=4, 0). There were 54 (48.6%) health workers having normal weight and there were 51(5.4%) who were considered overweight. No one was obese among them The difference between the average sum of scores in the group of health workers who had normal weight and the group of health workers who were overweight was not statistically significant (t=1.1 i p<0.05). Nor was the difference statistically significant for the average sum of scores of subquestion O (t=3.6 and p<0.05), and subquestion R (t=2.9 and p<0.05). BMI showed a weak positive correlation with both occurrence and relevance of symptoms. A weak positive correlation of BMI was found with average sum of scores in the first, second and third groups of questions in ORWELL 97 questionnaire. Conclusion According to the presented results, health workers who were overweight did not have lower quality of life than health workers who had normal weight. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
