This bibliometric review explores the existing publications regarding innovations in sustainable tourism. The aim of the review was to determine the existing research trends in the field of innovations in sustainable tourism by mapping the research on the innovations and "smart" aspects in sustainable tourism and contributing to the field by outlining the recent research trends, identifying the general topics and subtopics, and thus guiding future researchers in choosing an attractive research direction. The bibliometric analysis based on the PRISMA guidelines was provided to extract 179 all-open-access documents (articles, research papers, conference papers, and book chapters) from the Scopus database. As the research field was found to be expanding (thirty-eight documents were dated 2023 compared to one dated 2010), its attractiveness was confirmed. The analysis of the most-cited publications showed the existence of three research trends: (1) management-focused, (2) sustainability-focused, and (3) smart/ITCs-focused. Moreover, the analysis of the author keywords enabled outlining the main future research themes, namely tourism, sustainability, management, scope, innovation, smart, and method, and providing considerations for the future. For a broader dissemination of their findings, authors are encouraged to pay greater attention to these factors: inter-country collaboration, leading institution, journal choice, and topic choice. It is of great significance to study the effectiveness of knowledge transfer between the new and the veteran employees within enterprises for promoting sustainable innovation from the perspective of innovation quality management. However, few studies have examined the impact of innovation quality on the effectiveness of knowledge transfer between the new and veteran employees. In addition, knowledge of how reward and punishment incentives affect the effectiveness of knowledge transfer in innovation quality management remains insufficient. Since the amount of knowledge transfer is an important aspect of the effectiveness of knowledge transfer, this paper constructs a Stackelberg game model with an innovation-quality-oriented threshold of the knowledge transfer amount and investigates the amount of knowledge transfer between new and veteran employees in the collaborative innovation of research and development (R&D) projects within enterprises. A case study was used to reveal that the innovation-quality-oriented threshold for the knowledge transfer amount can effectively promote the amount of knowledge transfer between the new and the veteran employees in collaborative innovation. Moreover, reward is more effective than punishment in promoting the amount of knowledge transfer to exceed the innovation-quality-oriented threshold. This study enriches the theories of knowledge transfer games under quality management. By virtue of end-to-end project management strategies, modern multimedia technologies, and reward incentives this study can be used to conduct quality control during project execution, to promote knowledge retention in R&D projects, the innovation quality of projects, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance is an essential indicator for measuring the sustainability of corporations. It has received increased attention from capital market participants after the proposal of the 'dual carbon' goal. Innovation is a necessary skill for corporations to compete in the market. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of innovation on the ESG performance of corporations based on the dual incentive perspective of government subsidies and equity incentives. Using data of China's A-share main board listed corporations from 2017 to 2022, OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) models are constructed to conduct empirical research. The results show that enhanced innovation can significantly improve corporate ESG performance. This paper also conducts other tests to ensure the robustness of the findings and address potential endogeneity issues. Further analysis shows that both using government subsidies as external incentives and using equity incentives as internal incentives can positively moderate the above findings. Heterogeneity analyses discover that government subsidies granted to asset-advantaged corporations have a more substantial moderating effect than those granted to asset-weakened corporations; equity incentives granted to core technical staff have a more substantial moderating effect than those granted to executives. The concept that innovation with dual incentives can enhance corporate ESG performance can aid in developing programs to improve their ESG performance and generate novel ideas for high-quality, sustainable development. This article discusses how travel and tourism organizations, the hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, have used the technology tools to deal with COVID challenges. Specifically, through a bibliometric literature review of relevant research papers on the topic of tourism and COVID-19, we provide evidence of how COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption and diffusion of various technologies by different stakeholders in the tourism value chain, and we show how these technologies have been used to deal with the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic. The review evidences the main research areas and allows to define future directions. At present, the progress of business model stages supported by a variety of technology categories may unclear, and the integration of technology application and business model innovation (BMI) is hard due to operational practices in various industries and research areas, which block the view of the integration of smart city technology (SCT) and BMI for further development. Thus, this paper aims to explore the current research on the integration of SCT and BMI and identify the current research status and hotspots, assisting in indicating the status of these technologies in the business model stages in order to determine future trends, and adopts a mixed research methodology including a macro-quantitative method based on bibliometrics and a micro-qualitative method using content analysis. The results reveal a 17-year (2007 to 2023) integration of SCT and BMI enhanced by cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence in recent years, with the most current studies focusing on the ideation and design stages of the business model stages with an emphasis on using digital capabilities to refine, formulate, and design the corresponding business model while defining the strategy through internal and external factors. Tax policy is critical for business operations and export decisions. However, the relationship between tax sharing and export has been less frequently discussed. This paper explicitly examines the underexplored tax-sharing system's effect on manufacturing exporters' export quality and develops four hypotheses. We use data on Chinese manufacturing exporters and prefecture-level tax-sharing from 2008 to 2013 and employ an instrumental variable approach to alleviate the endogeneity problem. The empirical evidence supports our hypotheses. We find that an increase in the prefecture-level government tax-sharing ratio significantly reduces export product quality of firms. This quality effect can occur through channels, including tax burden effect, production scale effect, and innovation effect. Moreover, more productive firms and those operated in cities with stronger intellectual property protection can face a smaller quality-reducing effect. Our findings offer policy implications for improving China's modernized tax system and trade upgrading. Policymakers should recalibrate the tax-sharing system to reduce the tax burden on manufacturing exporters, particularly for innovative and high-productivity firms, and bolster intellectual property rights to enhance export quality and support China's trade and economic modernization. This paper aims to examine the views of managers, accountants, and auditors on the impact of innovation and information technology on financial resilience, and answers the question of whether in today's businesses, which are rapidly changing and evolving and where events are unpredicted, organizations can increase their economic resilience through innovation and information technology. The research population was managers, accountants, and auditors of small and medium-sized companies in Razavi Khorasan in 2024, and the study was conducted with a questionnaire in both paper and electronic forms through in-person visits to the companies under research, where 357 auditors and 371 accountants and managers completed the questionnaire. The findings show that the innovation of products and services and the expansion of information technology increase the financial resilience of organizations. It is suggested that organizations increase the innovation of products and services and use information technology to eliminate and take effective action in dealing with possible risks. The findings suggest exciting facts about the effect of advanced digital space on financial resilience in organizations active in Iran's economy, as well as possible damages in this field that cause delays in digitalization and, as a result, the economic resilience of organizations. Innovation is a trending topic in many disciplines but has a particular focus when it is studied in family businesses (FBs) due to their unique behavior in decision-making. Moreover, there is a gap in research on how these family businesses overcome economic crises by applying innovation. The main purpose of this paper is to provide empirical insight regarding this gap in an understudied sector, such as the Jewelry retail sector. This research was conducted in five cases, taken as examples of what these companies did, in terms of innovation, to overcome the COVID-19 crisis situation. This was considered sufficient, given the homogeneous structure of the sector and the exploratory nature of the research. The results revealed that different strategies caused them to obtain different results and clearly showed that FBs that used innovation during the crisis had better financial results. Based on the provincial data of China from 2011 to 2020, this paper analyzes the effect and influence mechanism of Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) on Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP) theoretically and empirically. The results show that OFDI can significantly improve GTFP, and this conclusion is still valid after measurement replacement, instrumental variable method and systematic GMM treatment. The mechanism analysis demonstrates that digital inclusive finance can strengthen the promoting effect of OFDI on GTFP, and OFDI can promote invention innovation and utility model innovation, thus enhancing GTFP. The heterogeneity analysis shows that OFDI can play a stronger role in promoting GTFP in the eastern region, western region, and the regions with a low marketization level. Therefore, actively promoting OFDI, optimizing the accuracy of OFDI, speeding up the development of digital inclusive finance, and formulating policies according to local conditions, play a vital role in promoting GTFP and the transformation of economic structure. Knowledge spillovers, driven by development and research projects, are crucial in generating new companies and services. They enhance innovation, improve competitiveness, and sustain the economic growth of nations. Hence, this paper aims to examine the relationship between knowledge spillovers and economic growth. It offers a comprehensive review of the scientific literature on the relationship between knowledge spillovers and economic growth, investigating the impact of economic cycles on knowledge spillover. Doing this provides valuable insights into how to leverage them at the different stages of the economic cycle. Hence, a PRIMA systematic review was conducted. Articles from the last 15 years were analyzed from repositories and scientific databases with a Cohen's kappa coefficient of 0.8902. This review identifies and presents a systematic analysis of the impacts of favoring and hindering knowledge spillovers in the economic growth of a nation. These effects offer greater resilience to a nation after periods of recession. In addition, the case study of three countries is presented to illustrate the findings from the review. The results show that better utilizing knowledge spillovers to enhance economic growth depends on a functional compromise between the university, industry, and governments to understand and commit to knowledge-based economic development. The reduction of phytosanitary treatments in viticulture is widely demanded by policymakers and consumers. An important solution is the use of resistant grapes, which can cut plant protection applications by up to 80%. Although this is a significant improvement, viticulture is mainly carried out with traditional grapes. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify the factors that encourage the cultivation of fungus-resistant grape varieties (FRGV), as well as the challenges and opportunities in marketing. Our study used an exploratory sequential mixed-methods model design. In the first step, data were collected through 48 in-depth interviews and analyzed. Based on the qualitative results, a survey of 422 producers was conducted. The quantitative research results were segmented by company size and production type to provide a deeper understanding. The main drivers for cultivation are the ecological benefits resulting from the reduction of pesticide use, with organic producers particularly motivated by sustainability goals. Smaller producers are driven by the opportunity to introduce a new wine style, whereas larger producers are more cautious and focus on cost savings. The cultivation of resistant grape varieties is restricted by a large number of varieties, lack of experience, and unfavorable characteristics from initial generations of resistant grapes. A low level of grape variety prominence and customer awareness, as well as unattractive variety names, negatively affect producer acceptance. To facilitate higher market acceptance, it is important to offer attractive grape varieties, directly communicate them to consumers, and provide information about the sustainable effects. This study examines the effects of digitization on economic growth in Turkmenistan, emphasizing the legal framework and real-world applications. The definition of "digitalization", an analysis of its impact on the nation's economy, and a focus on its unique features are presented first. It then explores several critical issues regarding Turkmenistan's digital economy's progress, such as assessing its current economic situation, significant trends, innovation, and challenges. It examines the financial results of implementing the Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy for 2019–2025 and the impacts of these policies. The report's conclusion offers some recommendations and a breakdown of the challenges Turkmenistan faces as its digital economy expands, and how technology developments, digitization, and regulatory agendas affect Turkmenistan's and the Hainan Free Trade Port's economic growth in Turkmenistan. It examines the possible benefits of using digital technologies to promote trade facilitation and regional economic expansion. The potential and state of the country's digital economy are better understood. The investigation also emphasizes how vital digital technologies are to advancing society and creating jobs, and this research emphasizes the need for digitization as a successful tool for economic growth and highlights the need for a market economy based on a solid legal framework. The creative economy sector is tightly associated with sustainable development and Sustainable Economic Goals (SDGs). The creative industries contribute to sustainability in a variety of ways. They are essential in accelerating sustainable consumption and production patterns and promoting regional sustainable development. This paper attempts to stress the role of the creative economy in promoting sustainable regional growth by focusing on smart specialization priority areas in the region of Attica. The latter has been accomplished by presenting the current regional policy model and the entrepreneurial discovery process (EDP) methodology in the region of Attica. This paper concludes that the EDP paves the way for the formulation of policy lessons enhancing the link between the creative economy and sustainable regional growth. In a nutshell, three major conclusions derived from the present paper include the following aspects: (i) the formulation of an integrated smart specialisation strategy requires an ongoing and well-structured process along the policy cycle (structured life-cycle approach); (ii) the deployment of a robust innovation ecosystem requires a comprehensive approach of engaging and mobilising regional actors and identifying their needs and priorities; (iii) the lessons observed through the exploration of the case study lead to concrete findings regarding the critical importance of long-term interactive institutional learning and policy co-design as a precondition for an effective regional ecosystem. The paper focuses on the bibliometric review of the Scopus database in the field of innovation ecosystem development, aiming to reveal the key trends in this fast-growing area of interdisciplinary research in terms of different quantitative and qualitative parameters. The bibliometric analysis followed PRISMA protocol guidelines for finding and extracting relevant scholarly papers based on the selected national, institutional, demographic, and scientific variables. The PRISMA procedure resulted in 401 selected open-access articles published on the topic of innovation ecosystem development from 2013 to 2023. The key findings indicate that research on innovation ecosystem development has seen late growth, which is a sign of still underexplored fields for potential pioneers. Researchers and institutions from the Nordic countries and the UK are most active as far as publications on innovation ecosystem development are concerned. However, researchers from the USA, Australia, and the UK dominate the citation records. Research collaborations help increase productivity and citation levels. The most cited articles fall into 4 clusters based on citations: innovation, smart tourism, digitalization, and entrepreneurship. Background: In the current global market, innovations are one of the tools of sustainable development. Therefore, companies must change their attitudes toward innovation strategies in accordance with international and national environmental standards, laws, and market requirements. We often come across, in particular, the evaluation of economic factors of sustainability, which cannot capture the attitudes of companies to the solved issue of the perception of innovation as a tool of sustainable development. Therefore, the Kano model and cluster analysis are used to evaluate the attitudes of Slovak small and medium-sized enterprises towards innovation, and the aim of this paper is to evaluate innovation as a tool of sustainability in enterprises in Slovakia. Methods: This article's main research method is the Kano model and cluster analysis. Conclusions: The findings of this paper reveal how small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovakia perceive innovation as a tool for sustainable development. Based on the results, we can state the positive attitude of small and medium-sized enterprises towards innovations supporting sustainable development, focusing on frugal innovations characterized by cost reduction, as well as innovation targeting functions, standards, laws, and performance optimization. Rural economies are crucial for global development, with more than 80% of the world's population living in rural areas and agriculture providing livelihoods for approximately 2.5 billion people worldwide. However, these economies are often vulnerable to various factors, including climate change, natural disasters, and a lack of progressive economic policies. The main aim of making rural economies more sustainable is to promote long-term economic development, protect the environment, and improve the quality of life in urban–rural communities. This paper explored certain strategies for enhancing rural economies to be more sustainable. The results show that smart growth has been rapidly growing in urban cities, while certain communities outside urban areas have been left behind. However, both urban and rural communities need economic growth and be adaptive to smart growth to serve their communities and adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the new era of innovation. Thus, we argue that rural areas are a big part of emerging economies. As such, they cannot be left behind in any smart growth. In this study, we found that rural economies need training and up-skilling in order to improve their sustainability and efficiency targets. Through a systematic review, this paper looked at various ways rural communities can solve their challenges toward smart growth and the sustainability of their resources. The intricate relationship between physical and social environments within organizations plays a pivotal role in shaping innovation endeavors. This paper introduces a three-dimensional framework aimed at comprehending the intricate mechanisms through which the physical and social environments synergistically drive innovation. Building on this, a systematic four-dimensional framework (communality, individuality, comfort, and health) is proposed to structure a comprehensive literature review, mapping out the intricate linkages between innovation and the physical environment. Through this extensive review, we delve into the intricate connections between the physical innovation environment and the broader innovation climate, unearthing valuable insights. Additionally, we highlight two promising directions for future research within the realm of physical environment–innovation climate interactions. Furthermore, we underscore the paramount importance of embracing an interdisciplinary approach, seamlessly blending perspectives from both the physical and social spheres to gain a holistic and nuanced understanding of the innovation landscape. As a "special economic zone" and "policy test field" in the region, the national high-tech zone is an important strategy for the country to promote the development of high-tech industries and regional economy, but its effect needs to be verified. This paper uses panel data of 281 prefecture-level cities in China from 1994 to 2019, and uses the differences-in-differences method to study the impact of high-tech zones on regional economic development. On this basis, the heterogeneity effects of different types of high-tech zones on regional economic growth are explored. The empirical research results show that the national high-tech zone promotes regional economic growth, and this conclusion still holds after conducting multiple robustness tests. Further research found that the promotion of national high-tech zones to economic development showed the law of "diminishing marginal effect": Compared with higher-level cities, lower-level cities gained faster development from the construction of national high-tech zones. Compared with the developed regions in the east, the underdeveloped regions in the west have achieved faster development from the construction of the national high-tech zone. In addition, this paper finds that growth-type high-tech zones have a greater marginal contribution to regional economic growth than mature high-tech zones; multi-zone high-tech zones have a greater marginal contribution to regional economic growth than single-zone high-tech zones. The research of this paper shows that the national high-tech zones as "policy test fields" and "special economic zones" can not only drive economic development, but also help narrow the economic development gap between regions through their rational distribution. Talent mobility is the key driving force to accelerate innovation and economic development. Prior studies focused much attention on the mobility of scientific talents from the angle of bibliometrics. Still, the mobility of technical talents was not thoroughly analyzed through the lens of the complex network. In consideration of technical talents being the primary and direct labor force to foster innovation and economic growth, in this paper, we provide a framework to measure the mobility of technical talents based on patents from the perspective of the complex network. The Technical Talent Mobility Network (TTMN) model is constructed to measure the changes of network topology on the levels of network, node, and edge aspects, respectively, thus deepening our understanding of the important node and mobility channels of technical talents. We then take China's smart logistics as an example to verify the framework promoted, and results show the framework can reveal the actual situation of technical talent mobility that was reported by the government gazette and related articles. The framework proposed in this paper points out a new method and perspective to measure technological talent mobility, which is essential to facilitate regional innovation and economic soar. This study examines governance strategies that facilitate sustainable regional circular bioeconomy development, culminating in a typology which enables the classification of regional government good practices supporting circular bioeconomy deployment in diverse regions within Europe. Data on regional circular bioeconomy governance models were collected through desk research and a survey, resulting in a compilation of 61 circular bioeconomy governance models. From this compilation, 20 case studies were identified and further explored to develop a typology of regional circular bioeconomy governance strategies in the EU-27. Findings reveal a strong regional commitment to expanding bioeconomies; however, managing conflicting sustainability goals remains a challenge. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of successful governance models and practices, offering valuable insights for policymakers to support the co-development and replication of effective circular bioeconomy strategies across diverse European regions. This paper investigates the incorporation of sustainable development within the Portuguese agri-food sector amid global environmental and resource challenges. It underscores the role of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria in steering businesses towards sustainable practices. Through qualitative analysis, in-depth interviews with managers and experts explored sustainable business model adoption, highlighting SMEs' unique challenges. The study reveals a divergence in sustainability practice maturity, advocating for integration into organizational culture and strategy. It points out SMEs' reactive stance due to resource constraints and external pressures, contrasting with larger firms' proactive approaches. The research supports a strategic reevaluation of business models for sustainability, emphasizing innovation, leadership, organizational commitment, and transparent communication. Practical contributions include embedding sustainability into core operations, enhancing competitiveness, fostering sustainable organizational culture, prioritizing employee well-being, and leveraging innovative marketing for sustainability communication. Recognizing its limitations, this study advocates exploring blockchain and AI for transparency, leadership's role in sustainable models, and the importance of marketing in the agri-food sector for sustainable management. This paper discusses the dispute resolution procedure that innovative digital commerce has adopted for the future for sustainable business. As digital trade becomes increasingly important for economic growth, trade-related disputes must be settled in both business and consumer situations. This study examines the advantages of using digital technology to resolve disputes involving digital trade and discusses how digital technology is changing traditional dispute resolution procedures. Conventional trade disputes differ from their digital counterparts because the digital sphere gives rise to more complex trade conflicts that require stronger regulatory resources. The utilization of digital technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, innovation-based models, digital strategies, and others can enhance the efficacy of conflict resolution. Digital technology can assist in resolving disputes with digital trade, even though procedural fairness issues including prejudice and algorithmic opacity may also arise. The research highlights the importance of developing innovative techniques to set up trade dispute resolution procedures and building legal frameworks for jurisdiction, trial, and enforcement procedures in addition to stressing the usage of digital technology. The unprecedented global meltdown resulting from the COVID-19 crisis, exacerbated by the rise of political conflicts between leading world economies, has caused the world to drift into a new paradigm with abrupt changes of traditional modi operandi across the landscape. A significant structural change, "Work-From-Anywhere (WFX)", though well known for its flexibility and other advantages, constitutes a serious barrier to the socialization and knowledge sharing (KS) needed in organizational management and career sustainability (CS). This study aims to thoroughly investigate how strategic management structures like management "Polychronicity" (MP) can dynamically recalibrate the mediation effects of KS dispositions on the relationship between WFX and CS. Our results reveal that WFX, due to the distancing component, considerably undermines teamwork, accountability, and supervision, promoting individualism and isolation among workers. Moreover, MP moderates the effects of WFX inconsistencies on CS, and this is achieved even better through KS. This paper is a landmark contribution to the literature on WFX and CS, leading the way to the empirical investigation of the WFX–KS–CS mechanism and a quantitative evaluation of the interactive effects among major elements of the social exchange (SE) context. As the road to environmental and social sustainability is tied to large-scale systemic transitions, inevitably, sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship should be considered in their context. In this paper, we investigate how entrepreneurial opportunities develop in trajectories of sectoral transitions to sustainability. We adopt a social practice perspective and, based on insights from sectoral systems of innovation, socio-technical systems and activity theory, we develop an activity-based template/framework to represent sectors and their inherent dynamics in a structured and holistic way. The framework allows for the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities in the contradictions that emerge during transitions in the activities of sectors due to internally developed inconsistencies and/or external interventions. Hence, plausible narratives of the anticipated business futures can be constructed. It also surfaces the role of learning and knowledge creation, i.e., innovation, in resolving contradictions, thus creating value and stirring transitions in the direction of sustainability. This paper explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in governance processes and provides public institutions with insight regarding the impact of integrating chatbot communication tools when interacting with citizens. The present research provides an analysis of the socio-economic factors that determine the use of artificial intelligence tools, i.e., the propensity to interact more with the public administration as a result of improved communication through virtual assistants, and highlights the implications of AI in improving services towards civil society by determining the degree of satisfaction on aspects such as reduced waiting times in queues, access to information regardless of the traditional working hours of civil servants, quicker execution of operations, et al. The results, derived from an analysis of 507 sets of responses obtained from an online questionnaire, indicate that a number of variables, such as residential environment, employment status, household income and education level, significantly impact the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in mediating citizen communication with government. Affected by COVID-19, the Chinese government has implemented demand-side reform policies to stimulate consumption. In this context, should consumer goods companies focus on innovation (FOI) or focus on ales (FOS), and what impact does it have on sustainability? Based on the empirical data of listed companies in China's A-share consumer goods industry, this paper uses a hierarchical regression model, a mediation effect test, moderation effect analysis, and a robustness test, and it finds that for consumer products industry enterprises under the background of demand-side reform: (1) FOI negatively affects enterprise sustainability, FOS positively affects enterprise sustainability, and tilting resources from FOI to FOS is conducive to improving sustainability; (2) the direct effect of FOI on sustainability is not significant, and its negative effect on sustainability is exerted exclusively indirectly through FOS; and (3) firm value can positively moderate the relationship between FOS and sustainability, but its moderating effect on the relationship between FOI and sustainability is insignificant. These conclusions are of positive significance for the study of corporate innovation, sales behavior, and sustainability performance under demand-side reform. More broadly, this paper enriches the study of corporate sustainability in the context of an unfavorable macro environment and short-term and large policy stimulus in the market. Digital leadership is vital for companies in a constantly evolving technological environment, where the adaptability of leaders is essential to face changes. To better understand this topic, a bibliometric study was conducted that examined publications on digital leadership from 2018 to July 2023. Scopus was used, complemented by tools such as RStudio, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel. The findings show that the field has undergone changes lately due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A movement toward digital transformation and technology leadership was observed. The most influential journals, prominent authors and geographical distribution of publications were identified. The United States, Germany and China all stood out in terms of the number of publications and citations. In addition, nine groups of industry sectors related to digital leadership were identified. The pandemic has led to increased interest in online learning and decision making in crisis situations. The results offer an updated view on digital leadership and highlight its relevance in organizations. In addition, qualitative studies are suggested in areas such as blockchain technology, climate change, digital skills, industry 4.0, municipal administration, and virtual skills. While other studies have analysed the problems of innovation and innovative development at the global level or for some specific countries or enterprises, this study provides a comparison of publication activity in the sphere of innovation and innovative development in two countries with different levels of economic and sustainable industrial development. This study investigates publications on the innovation and innovative development problems regarding sustainable industrial development in Ukraine and South Korea. A bibliometric study was conducted. The data were collected from the SciVal platform. The authors used the modern techniques and procedures of bibliometric analysis and data visualisation. The results show that (1) South Korea demonstrates higher publication activity on innovation and innovative development than Ukraine; (2) in the articles, authors of both countries highlight the problem of increasing innovative activity; (3) authors from South Korea form a denser network of relationships with authors from other countries; (4) in both cases, the leading cluster formed around the keyword "innovation"; and (5) for Ukraine and South Korea, innovative activities are connected with sustainable development. This study combines qualitative and quantitative research methods. It was carried out in two phases: data preparation and data analysis, using the techniques and procedures of bibliometrics. The results demonstrate the importance of the publication of scientific papers on the effects of a country's innovative activities to raise public awareness, foster the country's innovation, and thus stimulate sustainable development. While researchers of the area try hard to conceptualize the bioeconomy, it appears that it is harder for the variety of stakeholders to agree on the critical elements that form sustainable bioeconomy models. The aim of the present paper is to gain insight into major players' understanding of the bioeconomy concept to form policies and strategies or direct education and research. Using data collected from academia and state stakeholders in Greece, this paper articulates perceptions regarding the concept of bioeconomy from an academic, technological, and economic point of view. According to the results, the bioeconomy concept seems to be related to applied life and economic sciences, and engineering and technology sciences. Its technological interpretation regards innovation, new product development, and technologies. Empirical findings indicate an almost catholic acceptance of bioeconomy as an economic activity, no matter the science field or the state position of the stakeholders. They also highlight a clear need for synergies and a coherent cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary approach to produce novel knowledge, skills, technology, and innovation. The research contributes to the existing debate on the buzzing concept of the bioeconomy and fills a scientific gap at the regional level of a typical Mediterranean economy, enriching the related literature. The challenges to public policy brought by climate change are some of the biggest challenges for cities around the world. These challenges are costlier and more substantial for low-income communities given the existence of their greater social and economic vulnerability. Among the existing tools, this paper highlights the role played by urban living labs (ULLs), which have been discussed in the literature as a booster of urban resilience in a more sustainable direction. By considering ULLs as strategic institutional arrangements that seek resilience for the critical urban infrastructure challenges of climate change, the main target of this paper is to analyze ULLs as a strategy for increasing critical infrastructure resilience in the region of the Global South. These labs were initiated in developed countries, so we can ask: How are developing countries adapting this strategy in order to mitigate the problems of climate change? To achieve this goal, we reviewed previous literature on ULLs, specifically looking for case studies with ULL projects and highlighting the processes of public innovation policies and transfers of knowledge between countries; in order to complement our empirical analysis, we carried out a case study on Brazil. Despite the limitations of the sample, the data suggest the existence of different barriers to the implementation of ULL projects in Brazil compared to those in European cities. Companies around the world are facing global challenges, such as internationally interwoven crisis situations and conflicts, climate change, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and technological disruptions. While the UN has developed a global agenda (namely, the SDGs) to drive sustainability, at a political and economic level, global players seem to have a rather heterogeneous understanding of the situation. How can companies successfully adapt to the resulting turbulent market environments? Design Thinking, a method for finding answers to complex and wicked problems, is experiencing a renaissance wherein it is being used not only as a tool for product innovation but also for organizational and strategic transformation. By incorporating the principles of Industry 5.0 into company visions and integrating Design Thinking and ecodesign at the level product innovation, Design Thinking can help strengthen the adaptability of companies and create sustainable innovations in these VUCA environments. However, the factors that are necessary to realize the full potential of Design Thinking for sustainable business transformation remain unclear in science. The world population increased from 1 billion in 1800 to around 8 billion today. The Population Division of the United Nations predicts a global population of approximately 10.4 billion people by the end of the century. That represents over 2 billion more people. Moreover, the global community is currently experiencing a precarious state due to the enduring repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic across all sectors, including energy. Given the rising global population and the limited availability of primary energy resources, we must reach a balance between the demands of a growing human population and the planet's carrying capacity. The dreadful conflict in Ukraine has precipitated an enormous energy crisis. This crisis has served as a warning to the world population of how much it depends on this resource to survive. In France, the building sectors, specifically residential and tertiary, account for 45% of the total final energy consumption. It is the first energy consumer of the country and one of the most polluting (i.e., about 34% of CO 2 emitted by France). Consequently, we must consider alternative energy resource forms (i.e., substitution energy forms). Harvesting energy from the building envelope may be a viable technique for partially satisfying the electricity demands of building users. In this context, scientific research offers considerable potential for developing more innovative and efficient systems. This article aims to review the state-of-the-art of advances on the subject to orient and further optimize energy production systems, particularly electricity. This work addresses several points of view: it discusses the overall backdrop of the present study and introduces the subject; details the research strategy and procedures used to produce this paper; develops the state-of-the-art on the potential for generating or recovering power from the building envelope; presents the SWOT analysis of the earlier-described systems. The role of research and development (R&D) in economic growth has been intensively promoted by scholars and policy-makers of the last decades, emphasizing its impact on technological innovation, intensive and sustainable growth and economic revival. The R&D sector is considered a main driver in the fight against chronic underdevelopment, regional disparities, isolation and lack of socio-economic perspectives. Although the steady economic growth of Romania in the last 15 years continues to converge with the European Union's average, the regional disparities persisted and even deepened, the country still being considered a modest innovator, and resources allocated to research and innovation are far below the European level. In this paper, we aim to identify the existence, direction and duration of the relationship between economic growth, expenditure and employment in the R&D sector. We applied the Johansen cointegration test, the VECM model and Granger causality both at the county and component region levels during the 1995–2021 period. The results of our research reveal the consistency of these bidirectional relationships at the regional and sub-regional levels, especially in the long run. We also emphasize the importance of economic growth in supporting public and private efforts for R&D: the regions that can allocate more resources to research, development and innovation (RD&I) will benefit from the more reliable and long-run-oriented economic growth. Sustainability-oriented transport and mobility solutions hunt for engineering and management innovations. Both are primarily adopted by startups—ambitious and dynamic forms of organization stimulated by technical and technological progress. In this paper, the original definition of a startup as the new organizational form has been proposed, and the most relevant trends in green transportation and mobility solutions have been discussed. The paper also seeks knowledge about new business models of sustainable transport and mobility-oriented innovative startups. For this purpose, descriptive statistics of about 200 transport-oriented startups have been produced, based on the results of quantitative research in 2016–2019 in Poland, and the most appealing solutions are presented. Business models of sustainability-oriented transport and mobility startups have been mapped and analyzed. Green innovations in transport concern mainly products and business models. The studied startups can be divided into responding to challenges in designing new equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure (including electromobility) and those offering solutions in managing transport processes, fleet, and passenger transport—especially micro-mobility in cities public transport. Analyzing the profitability of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-oriented startups, we concluded that startups related to "hardware" projects (vehicles, infrastructures, drones) need more financial support or strategic partnership than service-oriented projects. We also hypothesized that "hardware" startups contribute more to "greening" transportation and mobility sector processes than startups offering services, which requires further in-depth research. In an environment of multiplying uncertainties, management accounting plays an important role in addressing product development issues. Changing business models, the capabilities of companies, and increasing consumer needs require reconsideration of the directions in the product development process. The purpose of this paper is to identify the changing role of management accounting in product development, to understand how research is progressing according to such vital directions as digitalization, sustainability, and circularity. Bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review were used to determine the main directions of the changing role of management accounting in product development. Results revealed that these directions were related to innovation, which could be considered the main driver for the changes in management accounting in product development. Based on a comparative method, this paper discusses a sustainable perspective for the use of a certain bio-based material instead of synthetic materials, using human beings, with their sensory perceptions, as the central measurement tools. The innovative eco-design approaches are aimed at radical environmental improvements by focusing on the services provided to consumers. In improving the quality of a product, equity and environmental harmony have become issues and constant challenges in companies' quests for modernization. In order to achieve this goal, one of the solutions taken into account by companies in order to be increasingly competitive is to replace, sometimes partially and other times totally, synthetic materials with new non-food, bio-based materials in the manufacturing process. The approach in this paper is aimed at better integrating tactile characteristics in designing green products. The detailed review of the literature shows that a consumer's subjective perception is of paramount importance in their decision to accept a new product. Focusing on the sensory characteristics of materials with bio-based and synthetic origins, this paper draws conclusions about their resemblances and differences. This paper evaluates the causal relationship between government subsidy and the innovation performance of new energy firms through count models using 2007–2021 data from China's listed new energy companies. By looking at the subsidy for listed new energy firms and the number of granted patents, we find government subsidy policies significantly boost firms' innovation performance. We estimate that a tenfold increase in government subsidy would lead to an increase of 7.11 in the total number of granted patents for new energy firms. Furthermore, a heterogeneity analysis shows such an effect varies depending on the nature of property rights, subsidy scale, and region for new energy firms. To be specific, state-owned firms are more dependent on government subsidy, the effect on innovation is generally higher in the high-subsidy group than in the low-subsidy group while being higher in the low-subsidy group when it comes to low-tech design patents, and firms in the eastern region are most sensitive to government subsidy. This paper also assesses the role of R&D investment in how government subsidy policies boost firms' innovation performance; that is, by increasing their R&D funding investment rather than R&D manpower investment. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the scope and market size of flexible employment in sustainable enterprise development have significantly increased worldwide, yet academic literature offer little information about the outcomes and moderators of flexible employment in China. The paper advances current knowledge and empirically addresses this gap by examining the effects of flexible employment on enterprise innovation input and output, with information technology capability and labor regulation as unexplored moderators. Based on data from 1179 manufacturing enterprises in China, this paper uses the OLS method to conduct empirical tests. The results show that (1) flexible employment has positively contributed to sustainable enterprise development by facilitating innovation inputs and outputs; (2) superior enterprise information technology capabilities and strict labor regulations were significant moderating factors in this relationship. In academic discussions about how to achieve sustainable growth in the world, it is stated that this is not possible without spending on research and development and innovative activities so that countries can maintain their competitiveness in the global environment. The EU has defined strategies that consider innovation as a key element for stimulating growth and creatung employment. In this context, this study examines the relationship between R&D expenditures and the global innovation index in the scope of EU countries. A PVAR model and annual data from 2007 to 2020 were used for the relationship between research expenditures and growth in the innovation of EU countries. We first examined the cross-sectional and cross-country homogeneity of slopes. The second-generation unit root test was then applied using the Pesaran CIPS (2007) test, and the ARDL panel model was applied to test for cointegration. Causal analyses with the panel ARDL model and the error correction model were applied to determine the relationships of the variables and their direction. For the long-term dynamic effects between variables, an impulse response function (IRF) was used, and for the degree of the effect between R&D expenditures and the global innovation index, variance decomposition was used. The results of this paper reveal a long-term positive significant relationship between R&D spending and the global innovation index, whereas in the short-term, this relationship is negative. Furthermore, the causality results of the error correction ARDL model show unidirectional short-run and long-run causality from research and development to the global innovation index in EU countries. Innovation is the source of competitiveness among firms and the driver of economic growth. This paper examines the influence of fintech and firms' innovation from the perspective of stakeholder financial support. To test the relationship, we collect data from Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) between 2011 and 2017. The results indicate that there is a strong positive effect of fintech development on firms' innovative activities. This effect operates through fintech's role in reducing information asymmetry: it increases the availability of funding support from stakeholders for firm R&D investment. Further, the funding supports are not only from investors and banks, but also from other stakeholders. In addition, this effect is larger for bigger and more opaque firms. The shift towards digitalisation has been empowering growth in the construction industry, especially in the past decade. Construction stakeholders are offered myriad benefits by embracing digital advancements to achieve efficiency. However, the exploitation of digital opportunities is bounded by the need for a practitioner skillset that aligns with the digital era, a requirement that has been described as difficult to meet and justified by the low degree of digital literacy among construction employees. This paper reports findings from interviews with 19 leaders and decision makers in the construction sector to reveal the indicators that can predict construction employees' digital literacy. Such an approach offers a comprehensive exploration of the likelihood of employees' digital literacy through socially oriented characteristics. Overall, 19 individual characteristics emerged from the thematic analysis and highlight the critical connection between social behaviour and digital literacy. The findings of this paper are timely and important for those businesses assessing their employees' willingness and maturity with regard to technological change through social and behavioural information. The qualitative approach led to the development of a conceptual framework that can explain the dynamics needed to assess employees' digital literacy in construction organisations. This study, therefore, reveals the effectiveness of predicting employees' readiness to shine in the digital era by shedding light on their digital literacy through examinations of individual characteristics in a construction workplace. This paper is among the first to encourage research efforts that take into account the importance of studying social and psychological complexities, which are subject areas that are limited in recent construction literature. As such, it is of value to employers wishing to embed greater digitalisation in their firms, as well as researchers in this domain and policymakers looking to encourage greater digital transformations. This paper presents both an example of the innovation prototype risk assessment and the universal way of conduct in assessing such solutions. For this purpose, the authors proposed a prototype risk assessment method based on the assumptions of the SWOT and TOWS analysis and the multi-criteria technical innovation risk assessment method. In the assumptions of the developed method, an account was taken of the conclusions resulting from the prospect theory. A symptom of this action was, e.g., a characterization of the team of experts (working on the prototype) in terms of their individual personality traits and mind (which has not been used so far in practical methods of assessing risk). As a result of the conducted assessment (for an innovative hydraulic cylinder prototype), the innovation prototype risk was determined as low, which was presented both on the map of domination and the map of risk assessment for this prototype. The procedure presented in the paper was planned so as to ensure that, after the prototype moves to the commercialization phase, it will be possible, on the basis of the already made calculations, to apply the full risk assessment dedicated for technical innovations with ease. Covering the period from 1980 through 2020, with an emphasis on COVID-19, this paper analyzes how trade policy uncertainty and sustainable development policies affected investment in medical innovation. In a twofold difference-in-differences (DiD) approach, using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL), the paper takes account of exogenous and heterogeneous exposure to trade policy uncertainty and trade policy adjustment in developing nations, which limited tariff increases on imported products. Both long- and short-term effects have been analyzed. Beyond patent applications, margin responses, and exports, the study indicates that eliminating tariff uncertainty boosts innovation. Developing countries have had little effect on the long-term ramifications of sectoral innovation patterns, political shifts, and imported technology. A negative response to the innovation shock and a positive response by R&D corroborate bidirectional and unidirectional causality, respectively. They demonstrate a long-term link between medical innovation, trade policy uncertainty, and R&D spending. As regards sustainable development, GDP growth and HDI have positive, and GINI index and CO2 emissions, have negative long-run relations with medical innovation. This study contributes to the literature on innovation and policy uncertainty together with sustainable development factors in developed countries, and especially on innovation trends in the medical sector, where there is a current policy ambiguity regarding the influx of foreign technology and its significance. As the importance of the transition to sustainable development is increasingly recognised by individuals, organisations, and society as a whole, there is a growing need to examine its impact at micro-, meso-, and macro-levels. There is an urgent imperative to ensure the sustainability of growing economic inequalities, a degraded environment, and people living in uneven conditions in different societies. The authors, therefore, highlight the strategic role and essential contribution of organisations, and universities/higher education institutions in particular, in achieving sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Universities/higher education institutions play a key role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, and they form the crucial architecture of contemporary practices in national economies and beyond. Policy makers, university/higher education institution governors, managers, and professors shape students and create new social contexts, and these must be oriented towards sustainability. This paper aims to explore the strategic role of organisations, in particular, universities/higher education institutions, as a key link between personal and social responsibility and, thus, as a powerful enabler of sustainable development. The authors examine the strategic transition to sustainability of two higher education institutions, the University of Maribor and the University of Economics—Varna, and conduct a qualitative case study research to develop a cybernetic model of the university's/higher education institution's transition to sustainability, which reflects the organisation's growing commitment to achieving the Sustainability Development Goals. The model includes seven successive stages: pre-awareness, awareness, focusing, implementation, reaching out, transparency and disclosure, and continuous improvement. The study shows that sustainable development, i.e., sustainability governance, management, and operations, are indispensable for implementing the strategic concept of sustainability in an organisation and for achieving the strategic transition to sustainability as explained in the proposed cybernetic model. This paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) about industrial tourism and intends to show how this product can increase sustainability and competitiveness in operating industrial companies. It uses bibliometric analysis with data from 32 journal articles that address this topic. Through this sample of articles, we do not intend to generalize conclusions but rather to concretely identify factors of sustainability and competitiveness based on a set of scientific studies that met a very specific set of criteria. Industrial tourism is categorized as a form of tourism encompassing excursions to industrial locations spanning the spectrum of contemporary, historical, or prospective significance. This encompasses venues that have ceased their industrial operations, presently functioning industrial enterprises, and forthcoming industrial establishments. Additionally, it involves visits to other destinations with an industrial theme, such as industrial technology hubs, museums, industrial tourist routes, educational institutions with industrial programs, laboratories, and analogous venues. The focus of this article is to analyze the literature on industrial tourism from the point of view of active industrial companies, the so-called "living industry", to identify how this type of tourism can contribute to enhancing these companies. Industrial tourism allows industrial companies to achieve environmental, social, and economic benefits and can be seen as a marketing tool and a promoter of innovation within companies. As the grassroots-party organizations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) are increasingly involved in the governance of private-owned enterprises (POEs), whether this new pattern promotes corporate innovation is still a research gap. Therefore, based on the data of 1357 POEs' party-organization involvements and their patent applications from 2003 to 2017, this paper analyzes the impact of the party-organization involvements on corporate innovation by using the multiple regression model. The results include: (1) party-organization involvements including party organization activities and senior executives' participation can significantly promote innovation, especially after 2012; (2) party-organization activities improve innovation by increasing research and development (R&D) investment and reducing operating risk, while the senior executives' participation only influences on R&D investment; (3) the party-organization involvements have a stronger promotion on non-invention patent applications, especially for the utility-model-patent applications, than invention-patent applications; (4) the promotion is more pronounced for family businesses, technology-intensive and capital-intensive enterprises, as well as those located in the northern, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Yangtze River delta. After applying PSM sampling and difference-in-differences (DID) analyses, and substituting the dependent variables, the results remain robust. This paper provides Chinese evidence for party construction and corporate innovation, and also provides references about political connection and corporate innovation for other countries to some extent. Technology transfer (TT) is a mechanism designed to accurately make knowledge, innovations, and advancements available to the general population. TT is conducted through scientific papers, educational and governmental initiatives, and the commercialization of technology. The TT process per se is complex, involving many stakeholders and factors that can impact implementation. Feasibility studies are needed to assess the types of technology that can be transferred, the economic options to be chosen, and to stimulate the receptive part, making understandable the whole transfer flow. Furthermore, TT involves a dynamic mechanism that has advanced with the development of technology, with different linear, non-linear, and alternative models being proposed and scientifically validated, and with the possibility of addressing different perceptions of the factors involved. The international TT level, as well as the level of innovation in the economic context, differs from nation to nation. The need for this paper is based on the lack of a comprehensive detailed presentation of the TT infrastructural concept, approached in a novel and in-depth way by assessing international TT, technology flow, technology distribution and expansion, collaborative networks, TT centers and TT models, regional operational programs etc., all of which are related to national/international legislation and sustainable development. The deficit of representation and implementation of this concept in Romania was also covered, the assessment providing the current status and suggesting the need to develop and optimize the implementation of TT in this country. With its far-reaching promise of a new synthesis of ecology and economy, the concept of the bioeconomy is a shimmering, ambiguous term in need of ethical and conceptual interpretation. The paper identifies potentials and strategies of the bioeconomy for a knowledge-based energy and raw material turnaround, which, by turning away from fossil resources, can at the same time contribute significantly to waste prevention. The focus is on ethical criteria for a responsible bioeconomy. In terms of environmental ethics, this approach has exemplary significance because it currently represents the most prominent concept for unfolding and operationalizing the innovative side of sustainability. The paper therefore argues for an expanded concept of the bioeconomy that includes the reproductive capacity of nature, for which soil conservation is a strong example. The relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and innovation has received considerable attention in the last two decades. While several studies have explored the impact of CSR on innovation. While several studies have explored the impact of CSR on innovation, few studies have attempted to use bibliometric methods to analyze and visualize the evolution and trends in the CSR and innovation fields. In this research, 1279 Web of Science (WoS) published papers on CSR and innovation were collected and analyzed using VOSviwer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix R-package and the MK trend test. The analysis was conducted in terms of the number of articles published per year, most productive journals, authors, and countries, as well as collaboration between countries and authors, keyword analysis, co-citation clustering analysis, and research frontiers. The results showed that: (a) The MK trend test shows that the amount of CSR and innovation research is increasing. The top three journals in terms of productivity are Sustainability, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management. The collaboration between authors forms a loose network and Ahmad, N has the most extensive network of international collaborations. There is close cooperation between countries, with a predominance of Asian, European, and North American collaborations, and the MK trend test shows that each country's publications on the relationship between corporate social responsibility and innovation in the past 20 years have an obvious upward trend. (b) Through the analysis of keywords, it is necessary to research "corporate social responsibility", "sustainability", "innovation", "financial performance ", and other topics associated with these themes. (c) The intellectual structure of CSR and innovation establishes five core clusters, including social innovation, CSR practice, sustainable global value chain, sustainable business model, and buyer–supplier collaboration. Based on the current unpredictable patterns of globalization and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, global value chains (GVCs) are undergoing restructuring. The resolution of the 20th Communist Party of China National Congress emphasizes high-quality development and the "going out" strategy. It highlights the crucial role of global value chain reconstruction in driving the high-quality development of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI). Innovation is crucial in reaching this high-quality development objective. This study uses Jiangsu Province in China as a case study to estimate the relationship between the innovative direction of the high-quality development indicator score system for Jiangsu Province's reverse OFDI and global value chain restructuring from 2007 to 2021. The findings indicate that global value chain restructuring has a suppressive effect on the innovative direction of high-quality development in Jiangsu's reverse OFDI. Additionally, further heterogeneity analysis reveals that urbanization levels mitigate the negative impact of global value chain restructuring on the innovative direction of high-quality development in Jiangsu's reverse OFDI.
