Most Internet of Things (IoT) systems are based on the wireless sensor network (WSN) due to the reduction of the cable layout cost. However, the battery life of nodes is a key issue when the node is powered by a battery. A Low-Power WSN Protocol with ADR and TP Hybrid Control is proposed in this paper to improve battery life significantly. Besides, techniques including the Sub-1GHz star topology network with Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), adaptive data rate (ADR), and transmission power control (TPC) are also used. The long-term testing results show that the nodes with the proposed algorithm can balance the communication quality and low power consumption simultaneously. The experimental results also show that the power consumption of the node with the algorithm was reduced by 38.46-54.44% compared with the control group. If using AAA battery with 1200 mAh, the node could run approximately 4.2 years with the proposed hybrid control algorithm with an acquisition period of under 5 s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the arrival of the era of Internet of Things (IoT), Wi-Fi Direct is becoming an emerging wireless technology that allows one to communicate through a direct connection between the mobile devices anytime, anywhere. In Wi-Fi Direct-based IoT networks, all devices are categorized by group of owner (GO) and client. Since portability is emphasized in Wi-Fi Direct devices, it is essential to control the energy consumption of a device very efficiently. In order to avoid unnecessary power consumed by GO, Wi-Fi Direct standard defines two power-saving methods: Opportunistic and Notice of Absence (NoA) power-saving methods. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm to enhance the energy efficiency ofWi-Fi Direct power-saving, considering the characteristics of multimedia video traffic. Proposed algorithm utilizes the statistical distribution for the size of video frames and adjusts the lengths of awake intervals in a beacon interval dynamically. In addition, considering the inter-dependency among video frames, the proposed algorithm ensures that a video frame having high priority is transmitted with higher probability than other frames having low priority. This paper proposes a modified architecture of the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) mobile network to provide services for the Internet of Things (IoT). This is achieved by allocating a narrow bandwidth and transferring the scheduling functions from the eNodeB base station to an NB-IoT controller. A method for allocating uplink and downlink resources of the LTE/NB-IoT hybrid technology is applied to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) from end-to-end. This method considers scheduling traffic/resources on the NB-IoT controller, which allows eNodeB planning to remain unchanged. This paper also proposes a prioritization approach within the IoT traffic to provide End-to-End (E2E) QoS in the integrated LTE/NB-IoT network. Further, we develop "smart queue" management algorithms for the IoT traffic prioritization. To demonstrate the feasibility of our approach, we performed a number of experiments using simulations. The Internet of Things (IoT) represents a cutting-edge technical domain, encompassing billions of intelligent objects capable of bridging the physical and virtual worlds across various locations. IoT services are responsible for delivering essential functionalities. In this dynamic and interconnected IoT landscape, providing high-quality services is paramount to enhancing user experiences and optimizing system efficiency. Service composition techniques come into play to address user requests in IoT applications, allowing various IoT services to collaborate seamlessly. Considering the resource limitations of IoT devices, they often leverage cloud infrastructures to overcome technological constraints, benefiting from unlimited resources and capabilities. Moreover, the emergence of fog computing has gained prominence, facilitating IoT application processing in edge networks closer to IoT sensors and effectively reducing delays inherent in cloud data centers. In this context, our study proposes a cloud-/fog-based service composition for IoT, introducing a novel fuzzy-based hybrid algorithm. This algorithm ingeniously combines Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) optimization algorithms, taking into account energy consumption and Quality of Service (QoS) factors during the service selection process. By leveraging this fuzzy-based hybrid algorithm, our approach aims to revolutionize service composition in IoT environments by empowering intelligent decision-making capabilities and ensuring optimal user satisfaction. Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in successfully fulfilling service composition requests by identifying suitable services. When compared to recently introduced methods, our hybrid approach yields significant benefits. Several emerging areas like the Internet of Things, sensor networks, healthcare and distributed networks feature resource-constrained devices that share secure and privacy-preserving data to accomplish some goal. The majority of standard cryptographic algorithms do not fit with these constrained devices due to heavy cryptographic components. In this paper, a new block cipher, BRISK, is proposed with a block size of 32-bit. The cipher design is straightforward due to simple round operations, and these operations can be efficiently run in hardware and suitable for software. Another major concept used with this cipher is dynamism during encryption for each session; that is, instead of using the same encryption algorithm, participants use different ciphers for each session. Professor Lars R. Knudsen initially proposed dynamic encryption in 2015, where the sender picks a cipher from a large pool of ciphers to encrypt the data and send it along with the encrypted message. The receiver does not know about the encryption technique used before receiving the cipher along with the message. However, in the proposed algorithm, instead of choosing a new cipher, the process uses the same cipher for each session, but varies the cipher specifications from a given small pool, e.g., the number of rounds, cipher components, etc. Therefore, the dynamism concept is used here in a different way. In this paper, we present an efficient way to find a gateway deployment for a given sensor network topology. We assume that the expired sensors and gateways can be replaced and the locations of the gateways are chosen among the given sensor nodes. The objective is to find a gateway deployment that minimizes the cost per unit time, which consists of the maintenance and installation costs. The proposed algorithm creates a cost reference and uses it to find the optimal deployment via a divide and conquer algorithm. Comparing all cases is the most reliable way to find the optimal gateway deployment, but this is practically impossible to calculate, since its computation time increases exponentially as the number of nodes increases. The method we propose increases linearly, and so is suitable for large scale networks. Additionally, compared to stochastic algorithms such as the genetic algorithm, this methodology has advantages in computational speed and accuracy for a large number of nodes. In the Internet of Things (IoT), Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWANs) are designed to provide low energy consumption while maintaining a long communications' range for End Devices (EDs). LoRa is a communication protocol that can cover a wide range with low energy consumption. To evaluate the efficiency of the LoRa Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN), three criteria can be considered, namely, the Packet Delivery Rate (PDR), Energy Consumption (EC), and coverage area. A set of transmission parameters have to be configured to establish a communication link. These parameters can affect the data rate, noise resistance, receiver sensitivity, and EC. The Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) algorithm is a mechanism to configure the transmission parameters of EDs aiming to improve the PDR. Therefore, we introduce a new algorithm using the Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) technique, to configure the EDs' transmission parameters in a centralized manner on the Network Server (NS) side, while improving the EC, too. The performance of the proposed algorithm, the Low-Power Multi-Armed Bandit (LP-MAB), is evaluated through simulation results and is compared with other approaches in different scenarios. In the traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) localization algorithm based on the Internet of Things (IoT), the distance vector hop (DV-Hop) localization algorithm has the disadvantages of large deviation and low accuracy in three-dimensional (3D) space. Based on the 3DDV-Hop algorithm and combined with the idea of A* algorithm, this paper proposes a wireless sensor network node location algorithm (MA*-3DDV-Hop) that integrates the improved A* algorithm and the 3DDV-Hop algorithm. In MA*-3DDV-Hop, firstly, the hop-count value of nodes is optimized and the error of average distance per hop is corrected. Then, the multi-objective optimization non dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is adopted to optimize the coordinates locally. After selection, crossover, mutation, the Pareto optimal solution is obtained, which overcomes the problems of premature convergence and poor convergence of existing algorithms. Moreover, it reduces the error of coordinate calculation and raises the localization accuracy of wireless sensor network nodes. For three different multi-peak random scenes, simulation results show that MA*-3DDV-Hop algorithm has better robustness and higher localization accuracy than the 3DDV-Hop, PSO-3DDV-Hop, GA-3DDV-Hop, and N2-3DDV-Hop. Although the number of Internet of Things devices increases every year, efforts to decrease hardware energy demands and to improve efficiencies of the energy-harvesting stages have reached an ultra-low power level. However, no current standard of wireless communication protocol (WCP) can fully address those scenarios. Our focus in this paper is to introduce treNch, a novel WCP implementing the cross-layer principle to use the power input for adapting its operation in a dynamic manner that goes from pure best-effort to nearly real time. Together with the energy-management algorithm, it operates with asynchronous transmissions, synchronous and optional receptions, short frame sizes and a light architecture that gives control to the nodes. These features make treNch an optimal option for wireless sensor networks with ultra-low power demands and severe energy fluctuations. We demonstrate through a comparison with different modes of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) a decrease of the power consumption in 1 to 2 orders of magnitude for different scenarios at equal quality of service. Moreover, we propose some security optimizations, such as shorter over-the-air counters, to reduce the packet overhead without decreasing the security level. Monitoring traffic states from the road is arousing increasing concern from traffic management authorities. To complete the picture of real-time traffic states, novel data sources have been introduced and studied in the transportation community for decades. This paper explores a supplementary and novel data source, Wi-Fi signal data, to extract traffic information through a well-designed system. An IoT (Internet of Things)-based Wi-Fi signal detector consisting of a solar power module, high capacity module, and IoT functioning module was constructed to collect Wi-Fi signal data. On this basis, a filtration and mining algorithm was developed to extract traffic state information (i.e., travel time, traffic volume, and speed). In addition, to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, a practical field test was conducted through the use of the system to monitor traffic states of a major corridor in China. The comparison results with loop data indicated that traffic speed obtained from the system was consistent with that collected from loop detectors. The mean absolute percentage error reached 3.55% in the best case. Furthermore, the preliminary analysis proved the existence of the highly correlated relationship between volumes obtained from the system and from loop detectors. The evaluation confirmed the feasibility of applying Wi-Fi signal data to acquisition of traffic information, indicating that Wi-Fi signal data could be used as a supplementary data source for monitoring real-time traffic states. Frequent location updates of individual Internet of Things (IoT) devices can cause several problems (e.g., signaling overhead in networks and energy depletion of IoT devices) in massive machine type communication (mMTC) systems. To alleviate these problems, we design a distributed group location update algorithm (DGLU) in which geographically proximate IoT devices determine whether to conduct the location update in a distributed manner. To maximize the accuracy of the locations of IoT devices while maintaining a sufficiently small energy outage probability, we formulate a constrained stochastic game model. We then introduce a best response dynamics-based algorithm to obtain a multi-policy constrained Nash equilibrium. From the evaluation results, it is demonstrated that DGLU can achieve an accuracy of location information that is comparable with that of the individual location update scheme, with a sufficiently small energy outage probability. Developing cyber security is very necessary and has attracted considerable attention from academy and industry organizations worldwide. It is also very necessary to provide sustainable computing for the the Internet of Things (IoT). Machine learning techniques play a vital role in the cybersecurity of the IoT for intrusion detection and malicious identification. Thus, in this study, we develop new feature extraction and selection methods and for the IDS system using the advantages of the swarm intelligence (SI) algorithms. We design a feature extraction mechanism depending on the conventional neural networks (CNN). After that, we present an alternative feature selection (FS) approach using the recently developed SI algorithm, Aquila optimizer (AQU). Moreover, to assess the quality of the developed IDS approach, four well-known public datasets, CIC2017, NSL-KDD, BoT-IoT, and KDD99, were used. We also considered extensive comparisons to other optimization methods to verify the competitive performance of the developed method. With the rise of online/mobile transactions, the cost of cash-out has decreased and the cost of detection has increased. In the world of online/mobile payment in IoT, merchants and credit cards can be applied and approved online and used in the form of a QR code but not a physical card or Point of Sale equipment, making it easy for these systems to be controlled by a group of fraudsters. In mainland China, where the credit card transaction fee is, on average, lower than a retail loan rate, the credit card cash-out option is attractive for people for an investment or business operation, which, after investigation, can be considered unlawful if over a certain amount is used. Because cash-out will incur fees for the merchants, while bringing money to the credit cards' owners, it is difficult to confirm, as nobody will declare or admit it. Furthermore, it is more difficult to detect cash-out groups than individuals, because cash-out groups are more hidden, which leads to bigger transaction amounts. We propose a new method for the detection of cash-out groups. First, the seed cards are mined and the seed cards' diffusion is then performed through the local graph clustering algorithm (Approximate PageRank, APR). Second, a merchant association network in IoT is constructed based on the suspicious cards, using the graph embedding algorithm (Node2Vec). Third, we use the clustering algorithm (DBSCAN) to cluster the nodes in the Euclidean space, which divides the merchants into groups. Finally, we design a method to classify the severity of the groups to facilitate the following risk investigation. The proposed method covers 145 merchants from 195 known risky merchants in groups that acquire cash-out from four banks, which shows that this method can identify most (74.4%) cash-out groups. In addition, the proposed method identifies a further 178 cash-out merchants in the group within the same four acquirers, resulting in a total of 30,586 merchants.
