Internet of Things (IoT) architectures generally focus on providing consistent performance and reliable communications. The convergence of IoT, edge, fog, and cloud aims to improve the quality of service of applications, which does not typically emphasize energy efficiency. Considering energy in IoT architectures would reduce the energy impact from billions of IoT devices. The research presented in this paper proposes an optimization framework that considers energy consumption of nodes when selecting a node for processing an IoT request in edge-fog-cloud layered architecture. The IoT use cases considered in this paper include smart grid, autonomous vehicles, and eHealth. The proposed framework is evaluated using CPLEX simulations. The results provide insights into mechanisms that can be used to select nodes energy-efficiently whilst meeting the application requirements and other network constraints in multi-layered IoT architectures. The Internet of Things (IoT), projected to exceed 30 billion active device connections globally by 2025, presents an expansive attack surface. The frequent collection and dissemination of confidential data on these devices exposes them to significant security risks, including user information theft and denial-of-service attacks. This paper introduces a smart, network-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) designed to protect IoT networks from distributed denial-of-service attacks. Our methodology involves generating synthetic images from flow-level traffic data of the Bot-IoT and the LATAM-DDoS-IoT datasets and conducting experiments within both supervised and self-supervised learning paradigms. Self-supervised learning is identified in the state of the art as a promising solution to replace the need for massive amounts of manually labeled data, as well as providing robust generalization. Our results showcase that self-supervised learning surpassed supervised learning in terms of classification performance for certain tests. Specifically, it exceeded the F1 score of supervised learning for attack detection by 4.83% and by 14.61% in accuracy for the multiclass task of protocol classification. Drawing from extensive ablation studies presented in our research, we recommend an optimal training framework for upcoming contrastive learning experiments that emphasize visual representations in the cybersecurity realm. This training approach has enabled us to highlight the broader applicability of self-supervised learning, which, in some instances, outperformed supervised learning transferability by over 5% in precision and nearly 1% in F1 score. Internet of Things (IoT) technology has become an inevitable part of our daily lives. With the increase in usage of IoT Devices, manufacturers continuously develop IoT technology. However, the security of IoT devices is left behind in those developments due to cost, size, and computational power limitations. Since these IoT devices are connected to the Internet and have low security levels, one of the main risks of these devices is being compromised by malicious malware and becoming part of IoT botnets. IoT botnets are used for launching different types of large-scale attacks including Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks are continuously evolving, and researchers have conducted numerous analyses and studies in this area to narrow security vulnerabilities. This paper systematically reviews the prominent literature on IoT botnet DDoS attacks and detection techniques. Architecture IoT botnet DDoS attacks, evaluations of those attacks, and systematically categorized detection techniques are discussed in detail. In the Energy-Harvesting (EH) Cognitive Internet of Things (EH-CIoT) network, due to the broadcast nature of wireless communication, the EH-CIoT network is susceptible to jamming attacks, which leads to a serious decrease in throughput. Therefore, this paper investigates an anti-jamming resource-allocation method, aiming to maximize the Long-Term Throughput (LTT) of the EH-CIoT network. Specifically, the resource-allocation problem is modeled as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) without prior knowledge. On this basis, this paper carefully designs a two-dimensional reward function that includes throughput and energy rewards. On the one hand, the Agent Base Station (ABS) intuitively evaluates the effectiveness of its actions through throughput rewards to maximize the LTT. On the other hand, considering the EH characteristics and battery capacity limitations, this paper proposes energy rewards to guide the ABS to reasonably allocate channels for Secondary Users (SUs) with insufficient power to harvest more energy for transmission, which can indirectly improve the LTT. In the case where the activity states of Primary Users (PUs), channel information and the jamming strategies of the jammer are not available in advance, this paper proposes a Linearly Weighted Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (LWDDPG) algorithm to maximize the LTT. The LWDDPG is extended from DDPG to adapt to the design of the two-dimensional reward function, which enables the ABS to reasonably allocate transmission channels, continuous power and work modes to the SUs, and to let the SUs not only transmit on unjammed channels, but also harvest more RF energy to supplement the battery power. In today's world, a significant amount of global energy is used in buildings. Unfortunately, a lot of this energy is wasted, because electrical appliances are not used properly or efficiently. One way to reduce this waste is by detecting, learning, and predicting when people are present in buildings. To do this, buildings need to become "smart" and "cognitive" and use modern technologies to sense when and how people are occupying the buildings. By leveraging this information, buildings can make smart decisions based on recently developed methods. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that have been designed and used for the monitoring of indoor environmental conditions within buildings. Using these technologies is crucial to gathering data about the indoor environment and determining the number and presence of occupants. Furthermore, this paper critically examines both the strengths and limitations of each technology in predicting occupant behavior. In addition, it explores different methods for processing these data and making future occupancy predictions. Moreover, we highlight some challenges, such as determining the optimal number and location of sensors and radars, and provide a detailed explanation and insights into these challenges. Furthermore, the paper explores possible future directions, including the security of occupants' data and the promotion of energy-efficient practices such as localizing occupants and monitoring their activities within a building. The Internet of Things (IoT) includes billions of sensors and actuators (which we refer to as IoT devices) that harvest data from the physical world and send it via the Internet to IoT applications to provide smart IoT services and products. Deploying, managing, and maintaining IoT devices for the exclusive use of an individual IoT application is inefficient and involves significant costs and effort that often outweigh the benefits. On the other hand, enabling large numbers of IoT applications to share available third-party IoT devices, which are deployed and maintained independently by a variety of IoT device providers, reduces IoT application development costs, time, and effort. To achieve a positive cost/benefit ratio, there is a need to support the sharing of third-party IoT devices globally by providing effective IoT device discovery, use, and pay between IoT applications and third-party IoT devices. A solution for global IoT device sharing must be the following: (1) scalable to support a vast number of third-party IoT devices, (2) interoperable to deal with the heterogeneity of IoT devices and their data, and (3) IoT-owned, i.e., not owned by a specific individual or organization. This paper surveys existing techniques that support discovering, using, and paying for third-party IoT devices. To ensure that this survey is comprehensive, this paper presents our methodology, which is inspired by Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA), combining the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology with Citation Network Analysis (CNA). The Internet of Things (IoT) is what we have as a great breakthrough in the 5G network. Although the 5G network can support several Internet of Everything (IoE) services, 6G is the network to fully support that. This paper is a survey research presenting the 5G and IoT technology and the challenges coming, with the 6G network being the new alternative network coming to solve these issues and limitations we are facing with 5G. A reference to the Control Plane and User Plane Separation (CUPS) is made with IPv4 and IPv6, addressing which is the foundation of the network slicing for the 5G core network. This work presents the design and analysis of newly developed reconfigurable, flexible, inexpensive, optically-controlled, and fully printable chipless Arabic alphabet-based radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. The etching of the metallic copper tag strip is performed on a flexible simple thin paper substrate (ϵr = 2.31) backed by a metallic ground plane. The analysis of investigated tags is performed in CST MWS in the frequency range of 1–12 GHz for the determination of the unique signature resonance characteristics of each tag in terms of its back-scattered horizontal and vertical mono-static radar cross section (RCS). The analysis reflects that each tag has its own unique electromagnetic signature (EMS) due to the changing current distribution of metallic resonator. This EMS of each tag could be used for the robust detection and recognition of all realized 28 Arabic alphabet tags. The study also discusses, for the first time, the effect of the change in font type and size of realized tags on their EMS. The robustness and reliability of the obtained EMS of letter tags is confirmed by comparing the RCS results for selective letter tags using FDTD and MoM numerical methods, which shows very good agreement. This paper discusses the design and implementation of a portable IoT station. Communication and data synchronization issues in several installations are addressed here, making possible a detailed analysis of the entire system during its operation. The system operator requires a synchronized data stream, combining multiple communication protocols into one single time stamp. The hardware selected for the portable IoT station complies with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) industrial standards. A short discussion regarding interface customization shows how easily the hardware can be modified so that it is integrated with almost any system. A programmable logic controller enables the Node-RED to be utilized. This open-source middleware defines operations for each global variable nominated in the Modbus register. Two applications are presented and discussed in this paper; each application has a distinct methodology utilized to publish and visualize the acquired data. The portable IoT station is highly customizable, consisting of a modular structure and providing the best platform for future research and development of dedicated algorithms. Water constitutes an indispensable resource crucial for the sustenance of humanity, as it plays an integral role in various sectors such as agriculture, industrial processes, and domestic consumption. Even though water covers 71% of the global land surface, governments have been grappling with the challenge of ensuring the provision of safe water for domestic use. A contributing factor to this situation is the persistent contamination of available water sources rendering them unfit for human consumption. A common contaminant, pesticides are not frequently tested for despite their serious effects on biodiversity. Pesticide determination in water quality assessment is a challenging task because the procedures involved in the extraction and detection are complex. This reduces their popularity in many monitoring campaigns despite their harmful effects. If the existing methods of pesticide analysis are adapted by leveraging new technologies, then information concerning their presence in water ecosystems can be exposed. Furthermore, beyond the advantages conferred by the integration of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and big data analytics, a notable outcome is the attainment of a heightened degree of granularity in the information of water ecosystems. This paper discusses methods of pesticide detection in water, emphasizing the possible use of electrochemical sensors, biosensors, and paper-based sensors in wireless sensing. It also explores the application of WSNs in water, the IoT, computing models, ML, and big data analytics, and their potential for integration as technologies useful for pesticide monitoring in water. The widespread adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in home, industrial, and business environments has made available the deployment of innovative distributed measurement systems (DMS). This paper takes into account constrained hardware and a security-oriented virtual local area network (VLAN) approach that utilizes local message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) brokers, transport layer security (TLS) tunnels for local sensor data, and secure socket layer (SSL) tunnels to transmit TLS-encrypted data to a cloud-based central broker. On the other hand, the recent literature has shown a correlated exponential increase in cyber attacks, mainly devoted to destroying critical infrastructure and creating hazards or retrieving sensitive data about individuals, industrial or business companies, and many other entities. Much progress has been made to develop security protocols and guarantee quality of service (QoS), but they are prone to reducing the network throughput. From a measurement science perspective, lower throughput can lead to a reduced frequency with which the phenomena can be observed, generating, again, misevaluation. This paper does not give a new approach to protect measurement data but tests the network performance of the typically used ones that can run on constrained hardware. This is a more general scenario typical for IoT-based DMS. The proposal takes into account a security-oriented VLAN approach for hardware-constrained solutions. Since it is a worst-case scenario, this permits the generalization of the achieved results. In particular, in the paper, all OpenSSL cipher suites are considered for compatibility with the Mosquitto server. The most used key metrics are evaluated for each cipher suite and QoS level, such as the total ratio, total runtime, average runtime, message time, average bandwidth, and total bandwidth. Numerical and experimental results confirm the proposal's effectiveness in foreseeing the minimum network throughput concerning the selected QoS and security. Operating systems yield diverse performance metric values based on various configurations. The primary objective is identifying algorithms to ensure suitable data transmission and encryption ratios. Another aim is to explore algorithms that ensure wider compatibility with existing infrastructures supporting MQTT technology, facilitating secure connections for geographically dispersed DMS IoT networks, particularly in challenging environments like suburban or rural areas. The aim of this paper is to discuss the usability of vibrations as energy sources, for the implementation of energy self-sufficient wireless sensing platforms within the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) framework. In this context, this paper proposes to equip vibrating assets like machinery with piezoelectric sensors, used to set up energy self-sufficient sensing platforms for hard-to-reach positions. Preliminary measurements as well as extended laboratory tests are proposed to understand the behavior of commercial piezoelectric sensors when employed as energy harvesters. First, a general architecture for a vibration-powered LoRaWAN-based sensor node is proposed. Final tests are then performed to identify an ideal trade-off between sensor sampling rates and energy availability. The target is to ensure continuous operation of the device while guaranteeing a charging trend of the storage component connected to the system. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the underlying technology that has enabled connecting daily apparatus to the Internet and enjoying the facilities of smart services. IoT marketing is experiencing an impressive 16.7% growth rate and is a nearly USD 300.3 billion market. These eye-catching figures have made it an attractive playground for cybercriminals. IoT devices are built using resource-constrained architecture to offer compact sizes and competitive prices. As a result, integrating sophisticated cybersecurity features is beyond the scope of the computational capabilities of IoT. All of these have contributed to a surge in IoT intrusion. This paper presents an LSTM-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) with a Dynamic Access Control (DAC) algorithm that not only detects but also defends against intrusion. This novel approach has achieved an impressive 97.16% validation accuracy. Unlike most of the IDSs, the model of the proposed IDS has been selected and optimized through mathematical analysis. Additionally, it boasts the ability to identify a wider range of threats (14 to be exact) compared to other IDS solutions, translating to enhanced security. Furthermore, it has been fine-tuned to strike a balance between accurately flagging threats and minimizing false alarms. Its impressive performance metrics (precision, recall, and F1 score all hovering around 97%) showcase the potential of this innovative IDS to elevate IoT security. The proposed IDS boasts an impressive detection rate, exceeding 98%. This high accuracy instills confidence in its reliability. Deep learning pervades heavy data-driven disciplines in research and development. The Internet of Things and sensor systems, which enable smart environments and services, are settings where deep learning can provide invaluable utility. However, the data in these systems are very often directly or indirectly related to people, which raises privacy concerns. Federated learning (FL) mitigates some of these concerns and empowers deep learning in sensor-driven environments by enabling multiple entities to collaboratively train a machine learning model without sharing their data. Nevertheless, a number of works in the literature propose attacks that can manipulate the model and disclose information about the training data in FL. As a result, there has been a growing belief that FL is highly vulnerable to severe attacks. Although these attacks do indeed highlight security and privacy risks in FL, some of them may not be as effective in production deployment because they are feasible only given special—sometimes impractical—assumptions. In this paper, we investigate this issue by conducting a quantitative analysis of the attacks against FL and their evaluation settings in 48 papers. This analysis is the first of its kind to reveal several research gaps with regard to the types and architectures of target models. Additionally, the quantitative analysis allows us to highlight unrealistic assumptions in some attacks related to the hyper-parameters of the model and data distribution. Furthermore, we identify fallacies in the evaluation of attacks which raise questions about the generalizability of the conclusions. Air pollution is a critical problem in densely populated urban areas, with traffic significantly contributing. To mitigate the adverse effects of air pollution on public health and the environment, there is a growing need for the real-time monitoring and detection of pollution spikes in transportation. This paper presents a novel approach to using Internet of Things (IoT) edge networks for the real-time detection of air pollution peaks in transportation, specifically designed for innovative city applications. The proposed system uses IoT sensors in buses, cabs, and private cars. These sensors are equipped with air quality monitoring capabilities, including the measurement of pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon dioxide (CO2). The sensors continuously collect air quality data and transmit them to edge devices within the transportation infrastructure. The data collected by these sensors are analyzed, and alerts are generated when pollution levels exceed predefined thresholds. By deploying this system within IoT edge networks, transportation authorities can promptly respond to pollution spikes, improving air quality, public health, and environmental sustainability. The "Internet-of-Medical-Vehicles (IOMV)" is one of the special applications of the Internet of Things resulting from combining connected healthcare and connected vehicles. As the IOMV communicates with a variety of networks along its travel path, it incurs various security risks due to sophisticated cyber-attacks. This can endanger the onboard patient's life. So, it is critical to understand subjects related to "cybersecurity" in the IOMV to develop robust cybersecurity measures. In this paper, the goal is to evaluate recent trends and state-of-the-art publications, gaps, and future outlooks related to this research area. With this aim, a variety of publications between 2016 and 2023 from "Web-of-Science" and "Scopus" databases were analysed. Our analysis revealed that the IOMV is a niche and unexplored research area with few defined standards and frameworks, and there is a great need to implement robust cybersecurity measures. This paper will help researchers to gain a comprehensive idea of this niche research topic, as it presents an analysis of top journals and highly cited papers, their challenges and limitations, the system model and architecture of the IOMV, related applicable standards, potential cyber-attacks, factors causing cybersecurity risks, various artificial intelligence techniques for developing potential countermeasures, the assessment and parameterisation of cybersecurity risks, constraints and challenges, and future outlooks for implementing cybersecurity measures in the IOMV. The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has become a crucial area of modern research. While the increasing number of IoT devices has driven significant advancements, it has also introduced several challenges, such as data storage, data privacy, communication protocols, complex network topologies, and IoT device management. In essence, the management of IoT devices is becoming more and more challenging, especially with the limited capacity and power of the IoT devices. The devices, having limited capacities, cannot store the information of the entire environment at once. In addition, device power consumption can affect network performance and stability. The devices' sensing areas with device grouping and management can simplify further networking tasks and improve response quality with data aggregation and correction techniques. In fact, most research papers are looking forward to expanding network lifetimes by relying on devices with high power capabilities. This paper proposes a device spatial clustering technique that covers crucial challenges in IoT. Our approach groups the dispersed devices to create clusters of connected devices while considering their coverage, their storage capacities, and their power. A new clustering protocol alongside a new clustering algorithm is introduced, resolving the aforementioned challenges. Moreover, a technique for non-sensed area extraction is presented. The efficiency of the proposed approach has been evaluated with extensive experiments that gave notable results. Oracle is a data supply mechanism that provides real-world data for blockchain. It serves as a bridge between blockchain and the IoT world, playing a crucial role in solving problems such as data sharing and device management in the IoT field. The main challenge at this stage is determining how to achieve data privacy protection in distributed Oracle machines to safeguard the value hidden in data on the blockchain. In this paper, we propose an improved scheme for distributed Oracle data aggregation based on Paillier encryption algorithm, which achieves end-to-end data privacy protection from devices to users. To address the issue of dishonest distributed Oracle machines running out of funds, we have designed an algorithm called PICA (Paillier-based InChain Aggregation). Based on the aggregation on the Chainlink chain and the Paillier encryption algorithm, random numbers are introduced to avoid the problem of dishonest Oracle machines running out of funds. We use the traffic coverage method to solve the problem of exposed request paths in distributed Oracle machines. Simulation and experimental results show that in small and medium-sized IoT application scenarios with 10,000 data nodes, each additional false request in a single request will result in a delay of about 2 s in data acquisition and can achieve a request response time of 20 s. The Internet of Things forensics is a specialised field within digital forensics that focuses on the identification of security incidents, as well as the collection and analysis of evidence with the aim of preventing future attacks on IoT networks. IoT forensics differs from other digital forensic fields due to the unique characteristics of IoT devices, such as limited processing power and connectivity. Although numerous studies are available on IoT forensics, the field is rapidly evolving, and comprehensive surveys are needed to keep up with new developments, emerging threats, and evolving best practices. In this respect, this paper aims to review the state of the art in IoT forensics and discuss the challenges in current investigation techniques. A qualitative analysis of related reviews in the field of IoT forensics has been conducted, identifying key issues and assessing primary obstacles. Despite the variety of topics and approaches, common issues emerge. The majority of these issues are related to the collection and pre-processing of evidence because of the counter-analysis techniques and challenges associated with gathering data from devices and the cloud. Our analysis extends beyond technological problems; it further identifies the procedural problems with preparedness, reporting, and presentation as well as ethical issues. In particular, it provides insights into emerging threats and challenges in IoT forensics, increases awareness and understanding of the importance of IoT forensics in preventing cybercrimes, and ensures the security and privacy of IoT devices and networks. Our findings make a substantial contribution to the field of IoT forensics, as they not only involve a critical analysis of the challenges presented in existing works but also identify numerous problems. This research paper explores the realm of fault detection in distributed motors through the vision of the Internet of electrical drives. This paper aims at employing artificial neural networks supported by the data collected by the Internet of distributed devices. Cross-verification of results offers reliable diagnosis of industrial motor faults. The proposed methodology involves the development of a cyber–physical system architecture and mathematical modeling framework for efficient fault detection. The mathematical model is designed to capture the intricate relationships within the cyber–physical system, incorporating the dynamic interactions between distributed motors and their edge controllers. Fast Fourier transform is employed for signal processing, enabling the extraction of meaningful frequency features that serve as indicators of potential faults. The artificial neural network based fault detection system is integrated with the solution, utilizing its ability to learn complex patterns and adapt to varying motor conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed framework and model is demonstrated through experimental results. Composite materials are increasingly important in making high-performance products. However, contemporary composites manufacturing processes still encounter significant challenges that range from inherent material stochasticity to manufacturing process variabilities. This paper proposes a novel smart Industrial Internet of Things framework, which is also referred to as an Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) framework for composites manufacturing. This framework improves production performance through real-time process monitoring and AI-based forecasting. Climbing gyms aim to continuously improve their offerings and make the best use of their infrastructure to provide a unique experience for their clients, the climbers. One approach to achieve this goal is to track and analyze climbing sessions from the beginning of the ascent until the climber's descent. Detecting the climber's descent is crucial because it indicates when the ascent has ended. This paper discusses an approach that preserves climber privacy (e.g., not using cameras) while considering the convenience of climbers and the costs to the gyms. To this aim, a hardware prototype has been developed to collect data using accelerometer sensors attached to a piece of climbing equipment mounted on the wall, called a quickdraw, which connects the climbing rope to the bolt anchors. The sensors are configured to be energy-efficient, making them practical in terms of expenses and time required for replacement when used in large quantities in a climbing gym. This paper describes the hardware specifications, studies data measured by the sensors in ultra-low power mode, detects sensors' orientation patterns during descent on different routes, and develops a supervised approach to identify lowering. The introduction of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has led to major changes in the industry. Thanks to machine data, business process management methods and techniques could also be applied to them. However, one data source has so far remained untouched: The network data of the machines. In the business environment, process mining, for example, has already been carried out based on network data, but the IIoT, with its particular protocols such as OPC UA, has yet to be investigated. With the help of design science research and on the shoulders of CRISP-DM, we first develop a framework for process mining in the IIoT in this paper. We then apply the framework to real-world IIoT network traffic data and evaluate the outcome and performance of our approach in detail. LoRa enables long-range communication for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, especially those with limited resources and low power requirements. Consequently, LoRa has emerged as a popular choice for numerous IoT applications. However, the security of LoRa devices is one of the major concerns that requires attention. Existing device identification mechanisms use cryptography which has two major issues: (1) cryptography is hard on the device resources and (2) physical attacks might prevent them from being effective. Deep learning-based radio frequency fingerprinting identification (RFFI) is emerging as a key candidate for device identification using hardware-intrinsic features. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of the state of the art in the area of deep learning-based radio frequency fingerprinting identification for LoRa devices. We discuss various categories of radio frequency fingerprinting techniques along with hardware imperfections that can be exploited to identify an emitter. Furthermore, we describe different deep learning algorithms implemented for the task of LoRa device classification and summarize the main approaches and results. We discuss several representations of the LoRa signal used as input to deep learning models. Additionally, we provide a thorough review of all the LoRa RF signal datasets used in the literature and summarize details about the hardware used, the type of signals collected, the features provided, availability, and size. Finally, we conclude this paper by discussing the existing challenges in deep learning-based LoRa device identification and also envisage future research directions and opportunities. Mobile robots play an important role in the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT); they need effective mutual communication between the cloud and themselves when they move in a factory. By using the sensor nodes existing in the IIoT environment as relays, mobile robots and the cloud can communicate through multiple hops. However, the mobility and delay sensitivity of mobile robots bring new challenges. In this paper, we propose a dynamic cooperative transmission algorithm with mutual information accumulation to cope with these two challenges. By using rateless coding, nodes can reduce the delay caused by retransmission under poor channel conditions. With the help of mutual information accumulation, nodes can accumulate information faster and reduce delay. We propose a two-step dynamic algorithm, which can obtain the current routing path with low time complexity. In the development of the Power Industry Internet of Things, the security of data interaction has always been an important challenge. In the power-based blockchain Industrial Internet of Things, node data interaction involves a large amount of sensitive data. In the current anti-leakage strategy for power business data interaction, regular expressions are used to identify sensitive data for matching. This approach is only suitable for simple structured data. For the processing of unstructured data, there is a lack of practical matching strategies. Therefore, this paper proposes a deep learning-based anti-leakage method for power business data interaction, aiming to ensure the security of power business data interaction between the State Grid business platform and third-party platforms. This method combines named entity recognition technologies and comprehensively uses regular expressions and the DeBERTa (Decoding-enhanced BERT with disentangled attention)-BiLSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory)-CRF (Conditional Random Field) model. This method is based on the DeBERTa (Decoding-enhanced BERT with disentangled attention) model for pre-training feature extraction. It extracts sequence context semantic features through the BiLSTM, and finally obtains the global optimal through the CRF layer tag sequence. Sensitive data matching is performed on interactive structured and unstructured data to identify privacy-sensitive information in the power business. The experimental results show that the F1 score of the proposed method in this paper for identifying sensitive data entities using the CLUENER 2020 dataset reaches 81.26%, which can effectively prevent the risk of power business data leakage and provide innovative solutions for the power industry to ensure data security. This paper discusses optimizing desktop image quality and bandwidth consumption in remote IoT GUI desktop scenarios. Remote desktop tools, which are crucial for work efficiency, typically employ image compression techniques to manage bandwidth. Although JPEG is widely used for its efficiency in eliminating redundancy, it can introduce quality loss with increased compression. Recently, deep learning-based compression techniques have emerged, challenging traditional methods like JPEG. This study introduces an optimized RFB (Remote Frame Buffer) protocol based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) image compression algorithm, focusing on human visual perception in desktop image processing. The improved RFB protocol proposed in this paper, compared to the unoptimized RFB protocol, can save 30–80% of bandwidth consumption and enhances remote desktop image quality, as evidenced by improved PSNR and MS-SSIM values between the remote desktop image and the original image, thus providing superior desktop image transmission quality. The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) has contributed to an increase in the production volume of RF-featured equipment. According to statistics from the literature, the IoT industry will soon deploy billions of products. While the concept behind these applications seems exciting, this paper sought to assess the effects the radio emissions produced by IoT products would have on the ambient radio noise levels within the unlicensed frequency bands of 433 MHz, 868 MHz, and 2.4 GHz. The study extended to three environments: industrial, urban, and suburban. This study developed an IoT noise generator (ING) device to emulate RF noise signals in the desired IoT radio transmission band. The paper presents a simplified radio noise surveying system (RNSS) for data collection of ambient radio noise from five South African candidate sites. The statistical and empirical analysis agree that the level of ambient radio noise was directly proportional to the rate of IoT radio activities. This paper investigates the application of ensemble learning techniques, specifically meta-learning, in intrusion detection systems (IDS) for the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). The Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain are emerging technologies that have attracted attention in many industries, including healthcare, automotive, and supply chain. IoT networks and devices are typically low-powered and susceptible to cyber intrusions. However, blockchains hold considerable potential for securing low-power IoT networks. Blockchain networks provide security features such as encryption, decentralisation, time stamps, and ledger functions. The integration of blockchain and IoT technologies may address many of the security concerns. However, integrating blockchain with IoT raises several issues, including the security vulnerabilities and anomalies of blockchain-based IoT networks. In this paper, we report on our experiments using our blockchain test bed to demonstrate that blockchains on IoT platforms are vulnerable to DDoS attacks, which can also potentially lead to device hardware failures. We show that a number of anomalies are visible during either a DDoS attack or IoT device failure. In particular, the temperature of IoT hardware devices can exceed 90 °C during a DDoS attack, which could lead to hardware failure and potential fire hazards. We also found that the Block Transaction Rate (BTR) and network block loss percentage can increase due to corrupted hardware, with the BTR dropping to nearly zero blocks/sec and a block loss percentage of over 50 percent for all evaluated blockchains, and as high as 81.3 percent in one case. IoT has seen remarkable growth, particularly in healthcare, leading to the rise of IoMT. IoMT integrates medical devices for real-time data analysis and transmission but faces challenges in data security and interoperability. This research identifies a significant gap in the existing literature regarding a comprehensive ontology for vulnerabilities in medical IoT devices. This paper proposes a fundamental domain ontology named MIoT (Medical Internet of Things) ontology, focusing on cybersecurity in IoMT (Internet of Medical Things), particularly in remote patient monitoring settings. This research will refer to similar-looking acronyms, IoMT and MIoT ontology. It is important to distinguish between the two. IoMT is a collection of various medical devices and their applications within the research domain. On the other hand, MIoT ontology refers to the proposed ontology that defines various concepts, roles, and individuals. MIoT ontology utilizes the knowledge engineering methodology outlined in Ontology Development 101, along with the structured life cycle, and establishes semantic interoperability among medical devices to secure IoMT assets from vulnerabilities and cyberattacks. By defining key concepts and relationships, it becomes easier to understand and analyze the complex network of information within the IoMT. Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) systems rely on the collective contribution of sensor data from numerous mobile devices carried by participants. However, the open and participatory nature of MCS renders these systems vulnerable to adversarial attacks or data poisoning attempts where threat actors can inject malicious data into the system. There is a need for a detection system that mitigates malicious sensor data to maintain the integrity and reliability of the collected information. This paper addresses this issue by proposing an adaptive and robust model for detecting malicious data in MCS scenarios involving sensor data from mobile devices. The proposed model incorporates an adaptive learning mechanism that enables the TCN-based model to continually evolve and adapt to new patterns, enhancing its capability to detect novel malicious data as threats evolve. We also present a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed model's performance using the SherLock datasets, demonstrating its effectiveness in accurately detecting malicious sensor data and mitigating potential threats to the integrity of MCS systems. Smart buildings use advanced technologies to automate building functions. One important function is occupancy detection using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors for smart buildings. Occupancy information is useful information to reduce energy consumption by automating building functions such as lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The information is useful to improve indoor air quality by ensuring that ventilation systems are used only when and where they are needed. Additionally, it is useful to enhance building security by detecting unusual or unexpected occupancy levels and triggering appropriate responses, such as alarms or alerts. Occupancy information is useful for many other applications, such as emergency response, plug load energy management, point-of-interest identification, etc. However, the accuracy of occupancy detection is limited by factors such as real-time occupancy data, sensor placement, privacy concerns, and the presence of pets or objects that can interfere with sensor reading. With the rapid development of IoT sensor technologies and the increasing need for smart building solutions, there is a growing interest in occupancy detection techniques. Multiple Gateways (GWs) provide network connectivity to Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in a Wide Area Network (WAN). The End Nodes (ENs) can connect to any GW by discovering and acquiring its periodic beacons. This provides GW diversity, improving coverage area. However, simultaneous periodic beacon transmissions among nearby GWs lead to interference and collisions. In this study, the impact of such intra-network interference is analyzed to determine the maximum number of GWs that can coexist. The paper presents a new collision model that considers the combined effects of the Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical (PHY) layers. The model takes into account the partial overlap durations and relative power of all colliding events. It also illustrates the relationship between the collisions and the resulting packet loss rates. A performance evaluation is presented using a combination of analytical and simulation methods, with the former validating the simulation results. The system models are developed from experimental data obtained from field measurements. Numerical results are provided with Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying (GFSK) modulation. This paper provides guidance on selecting GFSK modulation parameters for low bit-rate and narrow-bandwidth IoT applications. The analysis and simulation results show that larger beacon intervals and frequency hopping help in reducing beacon loss rates, at the cost of larger beacon acquisition latency. This paper proposes a novel short-term photovoltaic voltage (PV) prediction scheme using IoT sensor data with the two-stage neural network model. It is efficient to use environmental data provided by the meteorological agency to predict future PV generation. However, such environmental data represent the average value of the wide area, and there is a limitation in detecting environmental changes in the specific area where the solar panel is installed. In order to solve such issues, it is essential to establish IoT sensor data to detect environmental changes in the specific area. However, most conventional research focuses only on the efficiency of IoT sensor data without taking into account the timing of data acquisition from the sensors. In real-world scenarios, IoT sensor data is not available precisely when needed for predictions. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the IoT data first and then use it to forecast PV generation. In this paper, we propose a two-stage model to achieve high-accuracy prediction results. In the first stage, we use predicted environmental data to access IoT sensor data in the desired future time point. In the second stage, the predicted IoT sensors and environmental data are used to predict PV generation. Here, we determine the appropriate prediction scheme at each stage by analyzing the model characteristics to increase prediction accuracy. In addition, we show that the proposed prediction scheme could increase prediction accuracy by more than 12% compared to the baseline scheme that only uses a meteorological agency to predict PV generation. A packet cannot be sent from one location to another unless the "quality of service" (QoS) specifications are met. The term QoS refers to how well a service works for users. The Internet of Vehicles(IoV) employs vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology to establish intricate interconnections among the Internet, the IoT network, and the Vehicle Networks (IVNs), forming a complex vehicle communication network. However, the vehicle communication network is very vulnerable to attacks. The implementation of an intrusion detection system (IDS) emerges as an essential requisite to ensure the security of in-vehicle/inter-vehicle communication in IoV. Within this context, the imbalanced nature of network traffic data and the diversity of network attacks stand as pivotal factors in IDS performance. On the one hand, network traffic data often heavily suffer from data imbalance, which impairs the detection performance. To address this issue, this paper employs a hybrid approach combining the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) and RandomUnderSampler to achieve a balanced class distribution. On the other hand, the diversity of network attacks constitutes another significant factor contributing to poor intrusion detection model performance. Most current machine learning-based IDSs mainly perform binary classification, while poorly dealing with multiclass classification. This paper proposes an adaptive tree-based ensemble network as the intrusion detection engine for the IDS in IoV. This engine employs a deep-layer structure, wherein diverse ML models are stacked as layers and are interconnected in a cascading manner, which enables accurate and efficient multiclass classification, facilitating the precise identification of diverse network attacks. Moreover, a machine learning-based approach is used for feature selection to reduce feature dimensionality, substantially alleviating the computational overhead. Finally, we evaluate the proposed IDS performance on various cyber-attacks from the in-vehicle and external networks in IoV by using the network intrusion detection dataset CICIDS2017 and the vehicle security dataset Car-Hacking. The experimental results demonstrate remarkable performance, with an F1-score of 0.965 on the CICIDS2017 dataset and an F1-score of 0.9999 on the Car-Hacking dataset. Future university campuses will be characterized by a series of novel services enabled by the vision of Internet of Things, such as smart parking and smart libraries. In this paper, we propose a complete solution for a smart waste management system with the purpose of increasing the recycling rate in the campus and provide better management of the entire waste cycle. The system is based on a prototype of a smart waste bin, able to accurately classify pieces of trash typically produced in the campus premises with a hybrid sensor/image classification algorithm, as well as automatically segregate the different waste materials. Blockchain-based applications necessitate the authentication of connected devices if they are employed as blockchain oracles. Alongside identity authentication, it is crucial to ensure resistance against tampering, including safeguarding against unauthorized alterations and protection against device counterfeiting or cloning. However, attaining these functionalities becomes more challenging when dealing with resource-constrained devices like low-cost IoT devices. The resources of IoT devices depend on the capabilities of the microcontroller they are built around. Low-cost devices utilize microcontrollers with limited computational power, small memory capacity, and lack advanced features such as a dedicated secure cryptographic chip. This paper proposes a method employing a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to authenticate identity and tamper resistance in IoT devices. The suggested PUF relies on a microcontroller's internal pull-up resistor values and, in conjunction with the microcontroller's built-in analog comparator, can also be utilized for device self-checking. A main contribution of this paper is the proposed PUF method which calculates the PUF value as the average value of many single PUF measurements, resulting in a significant increase in accuracy. The proposed PUF has been implemented successfully in a low-cost microcontroller device. Test results demonstrate that the device, specifically the microcontroller chip, can be identified with high accuracy (99.98%), and the proposed PUF method exhibits resistance against probing attempts. Long-Range (LoRa) devices have been deployed in many Internet of Things (IoT) applications due to their ability to communicate over long distances with low power consumption. The scalability and communication performance of the LoRa systems are highly dependent on the spreading factor (SF) and channel allocations. In particular, it is important to set the SF appropriately according to the distance between the LoRa device and the gateway since the signal reception sensitivity and bit rate depend on the used SF, which are in a trade-off relationship. In addition, considering the surge in the number of LoRa devices recently, the scalability of LoRa systems is also greatly affected by the channels that the LoRa devices use for communications. It was demonstrated that the lightweight decentralized learning-based joint channel and SF-selection methods can make appropriate decisions with low computational complexity and power consumption in our previous study. However, the effect of the location situation of the LoRa devices on the communication performance in a practical larger-scale LoRa system has not been studied. Hence, to clarify the effect of the location situation of the LoRa devices on the communication performance in LoRa systems, in this paper, we implemented and evaluated the learning-based joint channel and SF-selection methods in a practical LoRa system. In the learning-based methods, the channel and SF are decided only based on the ACKnowledge information. The learning methods evaluated in this paper were the Tug of War dynamics, Upper Confidence Bound 1, and ϵ -greedy algorithms. Moreover, to consider the relevance of the channel and SF, we propose a combinational multi-armed bandit-based joint channel and SF-selection method. Compared with the independent methods, the combinations of the channel and SF are set as arms. Conversely, the SF and channel are set as independent arms in the independent methods that are evaluated in our previous work. From the experimental results, we can see the following points. First, the combinatorial methods can achieve a higher frame success rate and fairness than the independent methods. In addition, the FSR can be improved by joint channel and SF selection compared to SF selection only. Moreover, the channel and SF selection dependents on the location situation to a great extent. The technological revolution and the evolution of technology have significantly facilitated the applicability of the IoT in various domains, such as healthcare, transportation, agriculture, retail, education, and, especially, higher education, which encompasses countless areas. Petri nets can be a useful tool to model the behavior of an IoT system. The main objective of this paper was to propose, model, and analyze a complex IoT system for higher education. The system involves the integration of IoT devices for monitoring data. An educational cloud was used as a support tool through which tracking, and control actions were implemented both internally, between the cloud and entities, and externally, between the cloud and the IoT. The system was modeled using Petri nets, which are systems with discrete events, and for simulation, we used the Visual Object Net++ package. Using this application, information was obtained in real time, and it was possible to intervene with changes even in the design phase. The diagrams were easy to read and interpret, which is an advantage for the decision-making system. The general structure of the application was based on n entities, where each entity represented a higher education field. One of the main lines of research in distributed learning in recent years is the one related to Federated Learning (FL). In this work, a decentralized Federated Learning algorithm based on consensus (CoL) is applied to Wireless Ad-hoc Networks (WANETs), where the agents communicate with other agents to share their learning model as they are available to the wireless connection range. When deploying a set of agents, it is essential to study whether all the WANET agents will be reachable before the deployment. The paper proposes to explore it by generating a simulation close to the real world using a framework (FIVE) that allows the easy development and modification of simulations based on Unity and SPADE agents. A fruit orchard with autonomous tractors is presented as a case study. The paper also presents how and why the concept of artifact has been included in the above-mentioned framework as a way to highlight the importance of some devices used in the environment that have to be located in specific places to ensure the full connection of the system. In the era of continuous development in Internet of Things (IoT) technology, smart services are penetrating various facets of societal life, leading to a growing demand for interconnected devices. Many contemporary devices are no longer mere data producers but also consumers of data. As a result, massive amounts of data are transmitted to the cloud, but the latency generated in edge-to-cloud communication is unacceptable for many tasks. In response to this, this paper introduces a novel contribution—a layered computing network built on the principles of fog computing, accompanied by a newly devised algorithm designed to optimize user tasks and allocate computing resources within rechargeable networks. The proposed algorithm, a synergy of Lyapunov-based, dynamic Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), allows for predictive task allocation. The fog servers dynamically train LSTM networks to effectively forecast the data features of user tasks, facilitating proper unload decisions based on task priorities. In response to the challenge of slower hardware upgrades in edge devices compared to user demands, the algorithm optimizes the utilization of low-power devices and addresses performance limitations. Additionally, this paper considers the unique characteristics of rechargeable networks, where computing nodes acquire energy through charging. Utilizing Lyapunov functions for dynamic resource control enables nodes with abundant resources to maximize their potential, significantly reducing energy consumption and enhancing overall performance. The simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm surpasses traditional methods in terms of energy efficiency and resource allocation optimization. Despite the limitations of prediction accuracy in Fog Servers (FS), the proposed results significantly promote overall performance. In order to address the challenges of small and micro-water pollution in parks and the low level of 3D visualization of water quality monitoring systems, this research paper proposes a novel wireless remote water quality monitoring system that combines the Internet of Things (IoT) and a 3D model of reality. To begin with, the construction of a comprehensive 3D model relies on various technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) tilt photography, 3D laser scanning, unmanned ship measurement, and close-range photogrammetry. These techniques are utilized to capture the park's geographical terrain, natural resources, and ecological environment, which are then integrated into the three-dimensional model. Secondly, GNSS positioning, multi-source water quality sensors, NB-IoT wireless communication, and video surveillance are combined with IoT technologies to enable wireless remote real-time monitoring of small and micro-water bodies. Finally, a high-precision underwater, indoor, and outdoor full-space real-scene three-dimensional visual water quality monitoring system integrated with IoT is constructed.
