Aiming at the problems of insufficient extraction of asynchronous motor fault features by traditional deep learning algorithms and poor diagnosis of asynchronous motor faults in robust noise environments, this paper proposes an end-to-end fault diagnosis method for asynchronous motors based on IInception-CBAM-IBiGRU. The method first uses a signal-to-grayscale image conversion method to convert one-dimensional vibration signals into two-dimensional images and initially extracts shallow features through two-dimensional convolution; then the Improved Inception (IInception) module is used as a residual block to learning features at different scales with a residual structure, and extracts its important feature information through the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to extract important feature information and adjust the weight parameters; then the feature information is input to the Improved Bi-directional Gate Recurrent Unit (IBiGRU) to extract its timing features further; finally, the fault identification is achieved by the SoftMax function. The primary hyperparameters in the model are optimized by the Weighted Mean Of Vectors Algorithm (INFO). The experimental results show that the method is effective in fault diagnosis of asynchronous motors, with an accuracy rate close to 100%, and can still maintain a high accuracy rate under the condition of low noise ratio, with good robustness and generalization ability. When traditional EEG signals are collected based on the Nyquist theorem, long-time recordings of EEG signals will produce a large amount of data. At the same time, limited bandwidth, end-to-end delay, and memory space will bring great pressure on the effective transmission of data. The birth of compressed sensing alleviates this transmission pressure. However, using an iterative compressed sensing reconstruction algorithm for EEG signal reconstruction faces complex calculation problems and slow data processing speed, limiting the application of compressed sensing in EEG signal rapid monitoring systems. As such, this paper presents a non-iterative and fast algorithm for reconstructing EEG signals using compressed sensing and deep learning techniques. This algorithm uses the improved residual network model, extracts the feature information of the EEG signal by one-dimensional dilated convolution, directly learns the nonlinear mapping relationship between the measured value and the original signal, and can quickly and accurately reconstruct the EEG signal. The method proposed in this paper has been verified by simulation on the open BCI contest dataset. Overall, it is proved that the proposed method has higher reconstruction accuracy and faster reconstruction speed than the traditional CS reconstruction algorithm and the existing deep learning reconstruction algorithm. This paper presents a data processing pipeline designed to extract information from the hyperspectral signature of unknown space objects. The methodology proposed in this paper determines the material composition of space objects from single pixel images. Two techniques are used for material identification and classification: one based on machine learning and the other based on a least square match with a library of known spectra. From this information, a supervised machine learning algorithm is used to classify the object into one of several categories based on the detection of materials on the object. The behaviour of the material classification methods is investigated under non-ideal circumstances, to determine the effect of weathered materials, and the behaviour when the training library is missing a material that is present in the object being observed. This paper proposes a forward layer-wise learning algorithm for CNNs in classification problems. The algorithm utilizes the Separation Index (SI) as a supervised complexity measure to evaluate and train each layer in a forward manner. The proposed method explains that gradually increasing the SI through layers reduces the input data's uncertainties and disturbances, achieving a better feature space representation. Hence, by approximating the SI with a variant of local triplet loss at each layer, a gradient-based learning algorithm is suggested to maximize it. Inspired by the NGRAD (Neural Gradient Representation by Activity Differences) hypothesis, the proposed algorithm operates in a forward manner without explicit error information from the last layer. The algorithm's performance is evaluated on image classification tasks using VGG16, VGG19, AlexNet, and LeNet architectures with CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, Raabin-WBC, and Fashion-MNIST datasets. Additionally, the experiments are applied to text classification tasks using the DBPedia and AG's News datasets. Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is currently used in the clinic to assess eligibility for immune-checkpoint inhibitors via the tumor proportion score (TPS), but its efficacy is limited by high interobserver variability. Multiple papers have presented systems for the automatic quantification of TPS, but none report on the task of determining cell-level PD-L1 expression and often reserve their evaluation to a single PD-L1 monoclonal antibody or clinical center. In this paper, we report on a deep learning algorithm for detecting PD-L1 negative and positive tumor cells at a cellular level and evaluate it on a cell-level reference standard established by six readers on a multi-centric, multi PD-L1 assay dataset. This reference standard also provides for the first time a benchmark for computer vision algorithms. In addition, in line with other papers, we also evaluate our algorithm at slide-level by measuring the agreement between the algorithm and six pathologists on TPS quantification. We find a moderately low interobserver agreement at cell-level level (mean reader-reader F1 score = 0.68) which our algorithm sits slightly under (mean reader-AI F1 score = 0.55), especially for cases from the clinical center not included in the training set. Despite this, we find good AI-pathologist agreement on quantifying TPS compared to the interobserver agreement (mean reader-reader Cohen's kappa = 0.54, 95% CI 0.26–0.81, mean reader-AI kappa = 0.49, 95% CI 0.27—0.72). In conclusion, our deep learning algorithm demonstrates promise in detecting PD-L1 expression at a cellular level and exhibits favorable agreement with pathologists in quantifying the tumor proportion score (TPS). The relentless pursuit of miniaturization and performance enhancement in electronic devices has led to a fundamental challenge in the field of circuit design and simulation-how to accurately account for the inherent stochastic nature of certain devices. While conventional deterministic models have served as indispensable tools for circuit designers, they fall short when it comes to capturing the subtle yet critical variability exhibited by many electronic components. In this paper, we present an innovative approach that transcends the limitations of traditional modeling techniques by harnessing the power of machine learning, specifically Mixture Density Networks (MDNs), to faithfully represent and simulate the stochastic behavior of electronic devices. We demonstrate our approach to model heater cryotrons, where the model is able to capture the stochastic switching dynamics observed in the experiment. This paper presents a cutting-edge Sustainable Power Management System for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) using a Hybrid Energy Storage Solution (HESS) integrated with Machine Learning (ML)-enhanced control. The system's central feature is its ability to harness renewable energy sources, such as Photovoltaic (PV) panels and supercapacitors, which overcome traditional battery-dependent constraints. The proposed control algorithm orchestrates power sharing among the battery, supercapacitor, and PV sources, optimizing the utilization of available renewable energy and ensuring stringent voltage regulation of the DC bus. Notably, the ML-based control ensures precise torque and speed regulation, resulting in significantly reduced torque ripple and transient response times. In practical terms, the system maintains the DC bus voltage within a mere 2.7% deviation from the nominal value under various operating conditions, a substantial improvement over existing systems. Furthermore, the supercapacitor excels at managing rapid variations in load power, while the battery adjusts smoothly to meet the demands. Simulation results confirm the system's robust performance. The HESS effectively maintains voltage stability, even under the most challenging conditions. Additionally, its torque response is exceptionally robust, with negligible steady-state torque ripple and fast transient response times. In this study, the deep learning algorithm of Convolutional Neural Network long short-term memory (CNN–LSTM) is used to classify various jewelry rocks such as agate, turquoise, calcites, and azure from various historical periods and styles related to Shahr-e Sokhteh. Here, the CNN–LSTM architecture includes utilizing CNN layers for the extraction of features from input data mixed with LSTMs for supporting sequence forecasting. It should be mentioned that interpretable deep learning-assisted laser induced breakdown spectroscopy helped achieve excellent performance. For the first time, this paper interprets the Convolutional LSTM effectiveness layer by layer in self-adaptively obtaining LIBS features and the quantitative data of major chemical elements in jewelry rocks. Moreover, Lasso method is applied on data as a factor for investigation of interoperability. The results demonstrated that LIBS can be essentially combined with a deep learning algorithm for the classification of different jewelry songs. The preparation process and composition design of heavy-section ductile iron are the key factors affecting its fracture toughness. These factors are challenging to address due to the long casting cycle, high cost and complex influencing factors of this type of iron. In this paper, 18 cubic physical simulation test blocks with 400 mm wall thickness were prepared by adjusting the C, Si and Mn contents in heavy-section ductile iron using a homemade physical simulation casting system. Four locations with different cooling rates were selected for each specimen, and 72 specimens with different compositions and cooling times of the heavy-section ductile iron were prepared. Six machine learning-based heavy-section ductile iron fracture toughness predictive models were constructed based on measured data with the C content, Si content, Mn content and cooling rate as input data and the fracture toughness as the output data. The experimental results showed that the constructed bagging model has high accuracy in predicting the fracture toughness of heavy-section ductile iron, with a coefficient of coefficient (R2) of 0.9990 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.2373. Mental workload refers to the cognitive effort required to perform tasks, and it is an important factor in various fields, including system design, clinical medicine, and industrial applications. In this paper, we propose innovative methods to assess mental workload from EEG data that use effective brain connectivity for the purpose of extracting features, a hierarchical feature selection algorithm to select the most significant features, and finally machine learning models. We have used the Simultaneous Task EEG Workload (STEW) dataset, an open-access collection of raw EEG data from 48 subjects. We extracted brain-effective connectivities by the direct directed transfer function and then selected the top 30 connectivities for each standard frequency band. Then we applied three feature selection algorithms (forward feature selection, Relief-F, and minimum-redundancy-maximum-relevance) on the top 150 features from all frequencies. Finally, we applied sevenfold cross-validation on four machine learning models (support vector machine (SVM), linear discriminant analysis, random forest, and decision tree). The results revealed that SVM as the machine learning model and forward feature selection as the feature selection method work better than others and could classify the mental workload levels with accuracy equal to 89.53% (± 1.36)., (© 2024. In this paper, we propose a novel pricing model for delivery insurance in a food delivery company in Latin America, with the aim of reducing the high costs associated with the premium paid to the insurer. To achieve this goal, a thorough analysis was conducted to estimate the probability of losses based on delivery routes, transportation modes, and delivery drivers' profiles. A large amount of data was collected and used as a database, and various statistical models and machine learning techniques were employed to construct a comprehensive risk profile and perform risk classification. Based on the risk classification and the estimated probability associated with it, a new pricing model for delivery insurance was developed using advanced mathematical algorithms and machine learning techniques. This new pricing model took into account the pattern of loss occurrence and high and low-risk behaviors, resulting in a significant reduction of insurance costs for both the contracting company and the insurer. The proposed pricing model also allowed for greater flexibility in insurance contracting, making it more accessible and appealing to delivery drivers. The use of estimated loss probabilities and a risk score for the pricing of delivery insurance proved to be a highly effective and efficient alternative for reducing the high costs associated with insurance, while also improving the profitability and competitiveness of the food delivery company in Latin America. The challenge of developing an Android malware detection framework that can identify malware in real-world apps is difficult for academicians and researchers. The vulnerability lies in the permission model of Android. Therefore, it has attracted the attention of various researchers to develop an Android malware detection model using permission or a set of permissions. Academicians and researchers have used all extracted features in previous studies, resulting in overburdening while creating malware detection models. But, the effectiveness of the machine learning model depends on the relevant features, which help in reducing the value of misclassification errors and have excellent discriminative power. A feature selection framework is proposed in this research paper that helps in selecting the relevant features. In the first stage of the proposed framework, t-test, and univariate logistic regression are implemented on our collected feature data set to classify their capacity for detecting malware. Multivariate linear regression stepwise forward selection and correlation analysis are implemented in the second stage to evaluate the correctness of the features selected in the first stage. Furthermore, the resulting features are used as input in the development of malware detection models using three ensemble methods and a neural network with six different machine-learning algorithms. The developed models' performance is compared using two performance parameters: F-measure and Accuracy. The experiment is performed by using half a million different Android apps. The empirical findings reveal that malware detection model developed using features selected by implementing proposed feature selection framework achieved higher detection rate as compared to the model developed using all extracted features data set. Further, when compared to previously developed frameworks or methodologies, the experimental results indicates that model developed in this study achieved an accuracy of 98.8%. Though COVID-19 is no longer a pandemic but rather an endemic, the epidemiological situation related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus is developing at an alarming rate, impacting every corner of the world. The rapid escalation of the coronavirus has led to the scientific community engagement, continually seeking solutions to ensure the comfort and safety of society. Understanding the joint impact of medical and non-medical interventions on COVID-19 spread is essential for making public health decisions that control the pandemic. This paper introduces two novel hybrid machine-learning ensembles that combine supervised and unsupervised learning for COVID-19 data classification and regression. The study utilizes publicly available COVID-19 outbreak and potential predictive features in the USA dataset, which provides information related to the outbreak of COVID-19 disease in the US, including data from each of 3142 US counties from the beginning of the epidemic (January 2020) until June 2021. The developed hybrid hierarchical classifiers outperform single classification algorithms. The best-achieved performance metrics for the classification task were Accuracy = 0.912, ROC-AUC = 0.916, and F1-score = 0.916. The proposed hybrid hierarchical ensemble combining both supervised and unsupervised learning allows us to increase the accuracy of the regression task by 11% in terms of MSE, 29% in terms of the area under the ROC, and 43% in terms of the MPP metric. Thus, using the proposed approach, it is possible to predict the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths based on demographic, geographic, climatic, traffic, public health, social-distancing-policy adherence, and political characteristics with sufficiently high accuracy. The study reveals that virus pressure is the most important feature in COVID-19 spread for classification and regression analysis. Five other significant features were identified to have the most influence on COVID-19 spread. One of the main challenges in screening of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques is the class imbalance problem, where the number of different EOR techniques is not equal. This problem hinders the generalization of the data-driven methods used to predict suitable EOR techniques for candidate reservoirs. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a novel approach to overcome the above challenge by taking advantage of the Power-Law Committee Machine (PLCM) technique optimized by Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) to combine the output of five cutting-edge machine learning methods with different types of learning algorithms. The PLCM method has not been used in previous studies for EOR screening. The machine learning models include the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), CatBoost, Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The CatBoost is used for the first time in this work for screening of EOR methods. The role of the PSO is to find the optimal values for the coefficients and exponents of the power-law model. In this study, a bigger dataset than those in previous studies, including 2563 successful worldwide EOR experiences, was gathered. A bigger dataset improves the generalization of the data-driven methods and prevents overfitting. The hyperparameters of the individual machine-learning models were tuned using the fivefold cross-validation technique. The results showed that all the individual methods could predict the suitable EOR method for unseen cases with an average score of 0.868. Among the machine learning models, the KNN and SVM had the highest scores with a value of 0.894 and 0.892, respectively. Nonetheless, after combining the output of the models using the PLCM method, the score of the predictions improved to 0.963, which was a substantial increase. Finally, a feature importance analysis was conducted to find out the most influential parameters on the output. The novelty of this work is having shown the ability of the PLCM technique to construct an accurate model to overcome the class-imbalance issue in EOR screening by utilizing different types of data-driven models. In this paper, we prove the existence of a reservoir that has a finite-dimensional output and makes the reservoir computing model universal. Reservoir computing is a method for dynamical system approximation that trains the static part of a model but fixes the dynamical part called the reservoir. Hence, reservoir computing has the advantage of training models with a low computational cost. Moreover, fixed reservoirs can be implemented as physical systems. Such reservoirs have attracted attention in terms of computation speed and energy consumption. The universality of a reservoir computing model is its ability to approximate an arbitrary system with arbitrary accuracy. Two sufficient reservoir conditions to make the model universal have been proposed. The first is the combination of fading memory and the separation property. The second is the neighborhood separation property, which we proposed recently. To date, it has been unknown whether a reservoir with a finite-dimensional output can satisfy these conditions. In this study, we prove that no reservoir with a finite-dimensional output satisfies the former condition. By contrast, we propose a single output reservoir that satisfies the latter condition. This implies that, for any dimension, a reservoir making the model universal exists with the output of that specified dimension. Specific industrial or research applications necessitate specialized displacement measurement conditions, thereby driving researchers to innovate sensors based on novel operating principles. One such challenging condition is the prevalence of strong electromagnetic waves, which precludes using any sensor with a metallic structure or one that operates on electrical measurement principles. Additionally, space constraints in applications requiring multidimensional displacement measurements mandate the development of sensors capable of measuring displacements simultaneously in multiple directions. This paper introduces a novel soft sensor designed to simultaneously measure linear and rotational displacements using Soft Pneumatic Sensing Chambers (SPSCs). This sensor is unique in its ability to measure both linear and rotational movements and, due to its Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and compact size, is suitable for environments with significant electromagnetic interference and spatial constraints. Furthermore, its flexibility makes it appropriate for body-interacting applications. The Abaqus software was employed to optimize the operating parameters. Subsequently, a laboratory setup was assembled, and the sensor's performance was assessed using two calibration methods: mathematical modeling and machine learning. According to the machine learning method, the accuracy in the linear and rotational directions was 0.49 mm and 5.4°, while the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) was 0.05mm and 0.48°, respectively. Semiconductor wafer manufacturing relies on the precise control of various performance metrics to ensure the quality and reliability of integrated circuits. In particular, GaN has properties that are advantageous for high voltage and high frequency power devices; however, defects in the substrate growth and manufacturing are preventing vertical devices from performing optimally. This paper explores the application of machine learning techniques utilizing data obtained from optical profilometry as input variables to predict the probability of a wafer meeting performance metrics, specifically the breakdown voltage (Vbk). By incorporating machine learning techniques, it is possible to reliably predict performance metrics that cause devices to fail at low voltage. For diodes that fail at a higher (but still below theoretical) breakdown voltage, alternative inspection methods or a combination of several experimental techniques may be necessary. Sensors, wearables, mobile devices, and other Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming increasingly integrated into all aspects of our lives. They are capable of gathering enormous amounts of data, such as image data, which can then be sent to the cloud for processing. However, this results in an increase in network traffic and latency. To overcome these difficulties, edge computing has been proposed as a paradigm for computing that brings processing closer to the location where data is produced. This paper explores the merging of cloud and edge computing for IoT and investigates approaches using machine learning for dimensionality reduction of images on the edge, employing the autoencoder deep learning-based approach and principal component analysis (PCA). The encoded data is then sent to the cloud server, where it is used directly for any machine learning task without significantly impacting the accuracy of the data processed in the cloud. The proposed approach has been evaluated on an object detection task using a set of 4000 images randomly chosen from three datasets: COCO, human detection, and HDA datasets. Feature selection is a critical component of machine learning and data mining to remove redundant and irrelevant features from a dataset. The Chimp Optimization Algorithm (CHoA) is widely applicable to various optimization problems due to its low number of parameters and fast convergence rate. However, CHoA has a weak exploration capability and tends to fall into local optimal solutions in solving the feature selection process, leading to ineffective removal of irrelevant and redundant features. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the Enhanced Chimp Hierarchy Optimization Algorithm for adaptive lens imaging (ALI-CHoASH) for searching the optimal classification problems for the optimal subset of features. Specifically, to enhance the exploration and exploitation capability of CHoA, we designed a chimp social hierarchy. We employed a novel social class factor to label the class situation of each chimp, enabling effective modelling and optimization of the relationships among chimp individuals. Then, to parse chimps' social and collaborative behaviours with different social classes, we introduce other attacking prey and autonomous search strategies to help chimp individuals approach the optimal solution faster. In addition, considering the poor diversity of chimp groups in the late iteration, we propose an adaptive lens imaging back-learning strategy to avoid the algorithm falling into a local optimum. Finally, we validate the improvement of ALI-CHoASH in exploration and exploitation capabilities using several high-dimensional datasets. Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits a significant death rate that consistently impacts human lives worldwide. Histopathological examination is the standard method for CRC diagnosis. However, it is complicated, time-consuming, and subjective. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems using digital pathology can help pathologists diagnose CRC faster and more accurately than manual histopathology examinations. Deep learning algorithms especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are advocated for diagnosis of CRC. Nevertheless, most previous CAD systems obtained features from one CNN, these features are of huge dimension. Also, they relied on spatial information only to achieve classification. In this paper, a CAD system is proposed called "Color-CADx" for CRC recognition. Different CNNs namely ResNet50, DenseNet201, and AlexNet are used for end-to-end classification at different training–testing ratios. Moreover, features are extracted from these CNNs and reduced using discrete cosine transform (DCT). DCT is also utilized to acquire spectral representation. Afterward, it is used to further select a reduced set of deep features. Furthermore, DCT coefficients obtained in the previous step are concatenated and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) feature selection approach is applied to choose significant features. Finally, machine learning classifiers are employed for CRC classification. Two publicly available datasets were investigated which are the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and the Kather_texture_2016_image_tiles dataset. The highest achieved accuracy reached 99.3% for the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and 96.8% for the Kather_texture_2016_image_tiles dataset. DCT and ANOVA have successfully lowered feature dimensionality thus reducing complexity. Maximizing microwave passive component performance demands precise parameter tuning, particularly as modern circuits grow increasingly intricate. Yet, achieving this often requires a comprehensive approach due to their complex geometries and miniaturized structures. However, the computational burden of optimizing these components via full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations is substantial. EM analysis remains crucial for circuit reliability, but the expense of conducting rudimentary EM-driven global optimization by means of popular bio-inspired algorithms is impractical. Similarly, nonlinear system characteristics pose challenges for surrogate-assisted methods. This paper introduces an innovative technique leveraging variable-fidelity EM simulations and response feature technology within a kriging-based machine-learning framework for cost-effective global parameter tuning of microwave passives. The efficiency of this approach stems from performing most operations at the low-fidelity simulation level and regularizing the objective function landscape through the response feature method. The primary prediction tool is a co-kriging surrogate, while a particle swarm optimizer, guided by predicted objective function improvements, handles the search process. Rigorous validation demonstrates the proposed framework's competitive efficacy in design quality and computational cost, typically requiring only sixty high-fidelity EM analyses, juxtaposed with various state-of-the-art benchmark methods. The goal of this paper is to study the use of machine learning algorithms to determine the effectiveness of divorce predictor scale (DPS) and identify the reasons that usually lead to divorce in the scenario of Hail region, KSA. For this purpose, in this study, the DPS, based on Gottman couples therapy, was used to predict divorce by applying different machine learning algorithms. There were 54 items of the DPS used as features or attributes for data collection. In addition to the DPS, a personal information form was utilized to gather participants' personal data in order to conduct this study in a more structured and traditional manner. Out of 148 participants 116 participants were married whereas 32 were divorced. With the use of algorithms artificial neural network (ANN), naïve bayes (NB), and random forest (RF), the effectiveness of DPS was examined in this study. The correlation based feature selection method was used to identify the top six features from the same dataset and the highest accuracy rate was 91.66% with RF. The results show that DPS can predict divorce. This scale can help family counselors and therapists in case formulation and intervention plan development process. Speech emotion recognition (SER) has gained an increased interest during the last decades as part of enriched affective computing. As a consequence, a variety of engineering approaches have been developed addressing the challenge of the SER problem, exploiting different features, learning algorithms, and datasets. In this paper, we propose the application of the graph theory for classifying emotionally-colored speech signals. Graph theory provides tools for extracting statistical as well as structural information from any time series. We propose to use the mentioned information as a novel feature set. Furthermore, we suggest setting a unique feature-based identity for each emotion belonging to each speaker. The emotion classification is performed by a Random Forest classifier in a Leave-One-Speaker-Out Cross Validation (LOSO-CV) scheme. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches involving well known hand-crafted features as well as deep learning architectures operating on mel-spectrograms. Experimental results on three datasets, EMODB (German, acted) and AESDD (Greek, acted), and DEMoS (Italian, in-the-wild), reveal that our proposed method outperforms the comparative methods in these datasets. A key challenge in quantum photonics today is the efficient and on-demand generation of high-quality single photons and entangled photon pairs. In this regard, one of the most promising types of emitters are semiconductor quantum dots, fluorescent nanostructures also described as artificial atoms. The main technological challenge in upscaling to an industrial level is the typically random spatial and spectral distribution in their growth. Furthermore, depending on the intended application, different requirements are imposed on a quantum dot, which are reflected in its spectral properties. Given that an in-depth suitability analysis is lengthy and costly, it is common practice to pre-select promising candidate quantum dots using their emission spectrum. Currently, this is done by hand. Therefore, to automate and expedite this process, in this paper, we propose a data-driven machine-learning-based method of evaluating the applicability of a semiconductor quantum dot as single photon source. For this, first, a minimally redundant, but maximally relevant feature representation for quantum dot emission spectra is derived by combining conventional spectral analysis with an autoencoding convolutional neural network. The obtained feature vector is subsequently used as input to a neural network regression model, which is specifically designed to not only return a rating score, gauging the technical suitability of a quantum dot, but also a measure of confidence for its evaluation. For training and testing, a large dataset of self-assembled InAs/GaAs semiconductor quantum dot emission spectra is used, partially labelled by a team of experts in the field. Overall, highly convincing results are achieved, as quantum dots are reliably evaluated correctly. Note, that the presented methodology can account for different spectral requirements and is applicable regardless of the underlying photonic structure, fabrication method and material composition. We therefore consider it the first step towards a fully integrated evaluation framework for quantum dots, proving the use of machine learning beneficial in the advancement of future quantum technologies. Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns have extensive applications in structural engineering due to their exceptional load-bearing capability and ductility. However, existing design code standards often yield different design capacities for the same column properties, introducing uncertainty for engineering designers. Moreover, conventional regression analysis fails to accurately predict the intricate relationship between column properties and compressive strength. To address these issues, this study proposes the use of two machine learning (ML) models—Gaussian process regression (GPR) and symbolic regression (SR). These models accept a variety of input variables, encompassing geometric and material properties of stub CFST columns, to estimate their strength. An experimental database of 1316 specimens was compiled from various research papers, including circular, rectangular, and double-skin stub CFST columns. In addition, a dimensionless output variable, referred to as the strength index, is introduced to enhance model performance. To validate the efficiency of the introduced models, predictions from these models are compared with those from two established standard codes and various ML algorithms, including support vector regression optimized with particle swarm optimization (PSVR), artificial neural networks, XGBoost (XGB), CatBoost (CATB), Random Forest, and LightGBM models. Through performance metrics, the CATB, GPR, PSVR and XGB models emerge as the most accurate and reliable models from the evaluation results. In addition, simple and practical design equations for the different types of CFST columns have been proposed based on the SR model. The developed ML models and proposed equations can predict the compressive strength of stub CFST columns with reliable and accurate results, making them valuable tools for structural engineering. Furthermore, the Shapley additive interpretation (SHAP) technique is employed for feature analysis. This paper focuses on the feasibility of deep neural operator network (DeepONet) as a robust surrogate modeling method within the context of digital twin (DT) enabling technology for nuclear energy systems. Machine learning (ML)-based prediction algorithms that need extensive retraining for new reactor operational conditions may prohibit real-time inference for DT across varying scenarios. In this study, DeepONet is trained with possible operational conditions and that relaxes the requirement of continuous retraining - making it suitable for online and real-time prediction components for DT. Through benchmarking and evaluation, DeepONet exhibits remarkable prediction accuracy and speed, outperforming traditional ML methods, making it a suitable algorithm for real-time DT inference in solving a challenging particle transport problem. DeepONet also exhibits generalizability and computational efficiency as an efficient surrogate tool for DT component. However, the application of DeepONet reveals challenges related to optimal sensor placement and model evaluation, critical aspects of real-world DT implementation. Addressing these challenges will further enhance the method's practicality and reliability. Overall, this study marks an important step towards harnessing the power of DeepONet surrogate modeling for real-time inference capability within the context of DT enabling technology for nuclear systems. This paper proposes DQ-RTS, a novel decentralized Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning algorithm designed to address challenges posed by non-ideal communication and a varying number of agents in distributed environments. DQ-RTS incorporates an optimized communication protocol to mitigate data loss between agents. A comparative analysis between DQ-RTS and its decentralized counterpart Q-RTS, or Q-learning for Real-Time Swarms, demonstrates the superior convergence speed of DQ-RTS, achieving a remarkable speed-up factor ranging from 1.6 to 2.7 in scenarios with non-ideal communication. Moreover, DQ-RTS exhibits robustness by maintaining performance even when the agent population fluctuates, making it well-suited for applications requiring adaptable agent numbers over time. Additionally, extensive experiments conducted on various benchmark tasks validate the scalability and effectiveness of DQ-RTS, further establishing its potential as a practical solution for resilient Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning in dynamic distributed environments. Modern web application development involves handling enormous amounts of sensitive and consequential data. Security is, therefore, a crucial component of developing web applications. A web application's security is concerned with safeguarding the data it processes. The web application framework must have safeguards to stop and find application vulnerabilities. Among all web application attacks, SQL injection and XSS attacks are common, which may lead to severe damage to Web application data or web functionalities. Currently, there are many solutions provided by various study for SQLi and XSS attack detection, but most of the work shown have used either SQL/XSS payload-based detection or HTTP request-based detection. Few solutions available can detect SQLi and XSS attacks, but these methods provide very high false positive rates, and the accuracy of these models can further be improved. We proposed a novel approach for securing web applications from both cross-site scripting attacks and SQL injection attacks using decoding and standardization of SQL and XSS payloads and HTTP requests and trained our model using hybrid deep learning networks in this paper. The proposed hybrid DL model combines the strengths of CNNs in extracting features from input data and LSTMs in capturing temporal dependencies in sequential data. The soundness of our approach lies in the use of deep learning techniques that can identify subtle patterns in the data that traditional machine learning-based methods might miss. We have created a testbed dataset of Normal and SQLi/XSS HTTP requests and evaluated the performance of our model on this dataset. We have also trained and evaluated the proposed model on the Benchmark dataset HTTP CSIC 2010 and another SQL/XSS payload dataset. The experimental findings show that our proposed approach effectively identifies these attacks with high accuracy and a low percentage of false positives. Additionally, our model performed better than traditional machine learning-based methods. This soundness approach can be applied to various network security applications such as intrusion detection systems and web application firewalls. Wildlife roadkill is a recurring, dangerous problem that affects both humans and animals and has received increasing attention from environmentalists worldwide. Addressing this problem is difficult due to the high investments required in road infrastructure to effectively reduce wildlife vehicle collisions. Despite recent applications of machine learning techniques in low-cost and economically viable detection systems, e.g., for alerting drivers about the presence of animals and collecting statistics on endangered animal species, the success and wide adoption of these systems depend heavily on the availability of data for system training. The lack of training data negatively impacts the feature extraction of machine learning models, which is crucial for successful animal detection and classification. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of several state-of-the-art object detection models on limited data for model training. The selected models are based on the YOLO architecture, which is well-suited for and commonly used in real-time object detection. These include the YoloV4, Scaled-YoloV4, YoloV5, YoloR, YoloX, and YoloV7 models. We focus on Brazilian endangered animal species and use the BRA-Dataset for model training. We also assess the effectiveness of data augmentation and transfer learning techniques in our evaluation. The models are compared using summary metrics such as precision, recall, mAP, and FPS and are qualitatively analyzed considering classic computer vision problems. Sound is one of the primary forms of sensory information that we use to perceive our surroundings. Usually, a sound event is a sequence of an audio clip obtained from an action. The action can be rhythm patterns, music genre, people speaking for a few seconds, etc. The sound event classification address distinguishes what kind of audio clip it is from the given audio sequence. Nowadays, it is a common issue to solve in the following pipeline: audio pre-processing→perceptual feature extraction→classification algorithm. In this paper, we improve the traditional sound event classification algorithm to identify unknown sound events by using the deep learning method. The compact cluster structure in the feature space for known classes helps recognize unknown classes by allowing large room to locate unknown samples in the embedded feature space. Based on this concept, we applied center loss and supervised contrastive loss to optimize the model. The center loss tries to minimize the intra- class distance by pulling the embedded feature into the cluster center, while the contrastive loss disperses the inter-class features from one another. In addition, we explored the performance of self-supervised learning in detecting unknown sound events. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed open-set sound event classification algorithm and self-supervised learning approach achieve sustained performance improvements in various datasets. Predictive sports data analytics can be revolutionary for sports performance. Existing literature discusses players' or teams' performance, independently or in tandem. Using Machine Learning (ML), this paper aims to holistically evaluate player-, team-, and conference (season)-level performances in Division-1 Women's basketball. The players were monitored and tested through a full competitive year. The performance was quantified at the player level using the reactive strength index modified (RSImod), at the team level by the game score (GS) metric, and finally at the conference level through Player Efficiency Rating (PER). The data includes parameters from training, subjective stress, sleep, and recovery (WHOOP straps), in-game statistics (Polar monitors), and countermovement jumps. We used data balancing techniques and an Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) classifier to predict RSI and GS with greater than 90% accuracy and a 0.9 F1 score. The XGB regressor predicted PER with an MSE of 0.026 and an R2 of 0.680. Ensemble of Random Forest, XGB, and correlation finds feature importance at all levels. We used Partial Dependence Plots to understand the impact of each feature on the target variable. Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that causes issues related to reading, which affects around 10% of the worldwide population. This can compromise comprehension and memorization skills, and result in anxiety and lack of self-esteem, if no support is provided. Moreover, this support should be highly personalized, to be actually helpful. In this paper, a model to classify the most useful methodologies to support students with dyslexia has been created, with a focus on university alumni. The prediction algorithm is based on supervised machine learning techniques; starting from the issues that dyslexic students experience during their career, it is capable of suggesting customized support digital tools and learning strategies for each of them. The algorithm was trained and tested on data acquired through a self-evaluation questionnaire, which was designed and then spread to more than 1200 university students. It allowed 17 useful tools and 22 useful strategies to be detected. The results of the testing showed an average prediction accuracy higher than 90%, which rises to 94% by renouncing to guess the less-predictable 8 tools/strategies. In the light of this, it is possible to state that the implemented algorithm can achieve the set goal and, thus, reduce the gap between dyslexic and non-dyslexic students. This achievement paves the way for a new modality of facing the problem of dyslexia by university institutions, which aims at modifying teaching activities toward students' needs, instead of simply reducing their study load or duties. The Internet of Things (IoT) is extensively used in modern-day life, such as in smart homes, intelligent transportation, etc. However, the present security measures cannot fully protect the IoT due to its vulnerability to malicious assaults. Intrusion detection can protect IoT devices from the most harmful attacks as a security tool. Nevertheless, the time and detection efficiencies of conventional intrusion detection methods need to be more accurate. The main contribution of this paper is to develop a simple as well as intelligent security framework for protecting IoT from cyber-attacks. For this purpose, a combination of Decisive Red Fox (DRF) Optimization and Descriptive Back Propagated Radial Basis Function (DBRF) classification are developed in the proposed work. The novelty of this work is, a recently developed DRF optimization methodology incorporated with the machine learning algorithm is utilized for maximizing the security level of IoT systems. First, the data preprocessing and normalization operations are performed to generate the balanced IoT dataset for improving the detection accuracy of classification. Then, the DRF optimization algorithm is applied to optimally tune the features required for accurate intrusion detection and classification. It also supports increasing the training speed and reducing the error rate of the classifier. Moreover, the DBRF classification model is deployed to categorize the normal and attacking data flows using optimized features. Here, the proposed DRF-DBRF security model's performance is validated and tested using five different and popular IoT benchmarking datasets. Automated disease diagnosis and prediction, powered by AI, play a crucial role in enabling medical professionals to deliver effective care to patients. While such predictive tools have been extensively explored in resource-rich languages like English, this manuscript focuses on predicting disease categories automatically from symptoms documented in the Afaan Oromo language, employing various classification algorithms. This study encompasses machine learning techniques such as support vector machines, random forests, logistic regression, and Naïve Bayes, as well as deep learning approaches including LSTM, GRU, and Bi-LSTM. Due to the unavailability of a standard corpus, we prepared three data sets with different numbers of patient symptoms arranged into 10 categories. The two feature representations, TF-IDF and word embedding, were employed. The performance of the proposed methodology has been evaluated using accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 score. The experimental results show that, among machine learning models, the SVM model using TF-IDF had the highest accuracy and F1 score of 94.7%, while the LSTM model using word2vec embedding showed an accuracy rate of 95.7% and F1 score of 96.0% from deep learning models. To enhance the optimal performance of each model, several hyper-parameter tuning settings were used. We present an innovative method for rapidly segmenting haematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained tissue in whole-slide images (WSIs) that eliminates a wide range of undesirable artefacts such as pen marks and scanning artefacts. Our method involves taking a single-channel representation of a low-magnification RGB overview of the WSI in which the pixel values are bimodally distributed such that H&E-stained tissue is easily distinguished from both background and a wide variety of artefacts. We demonstrate our method on 30 WSIs prepared from a wide range of institutions and WSI digital scanners, each containing substantial artefacts, and compare it to segmentations provided by Otsu thresholding and Histolab tissue segmentation and pen filtering tools. We found that our method segmented the tissue and fully removed all artefacts in 29 out of 30 WSIs, whereas Otsu thresholding failed to remove any artefacts, and the Histolab pen filtering tools only partially removed the pen marks. The beauty of our approach lies in its simplicity: manipulating RGB colour space and using Otsu thresholding allows for the segmentation of H&E-stained tissue and the rapid removal of artefacts without the need for machine learning or parameter tuning. The emergence of long COVID during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented considerable challenges for healthcare professionals and researchers. The task of identifying relevant literature is particularly daunting due to the rapidly evolving scientific landscape, inconsistent definitions, and a lack of standardized nomenclature. This paper proposes a novel solution to this challenge by employing machine learning techniques to classify long COVID literature. However, the scarcity of annotated data for machine learning poses a significant obstacle. To overcome this, we introduce a strategy called medical paraphrasing, which diversifies the training data while maintaining the original content. Additionally, we propose a Data-Reweighting-Based Multi-Level Optimization Framework for Domain Adaptive Paraphrasing, supported by a Meta-Weight-Network (MWN). This innovative approach incorporates feedback from the downstream text classification model to influence the training of the paraphrasing model. During the training process, the framework assigns higher weights to the training examples that contribute more effectively to the downstream task of long COVID text classification. Our findings demonstrate that this method substantially improves the accuracy and efficiency of long COVID literature classification, offering a valuable tool for physicians and researchers navigating this complex and ever-evolving field.

Abstract In this paper, we propose a novel pricing model for delivery insurance in a food delivery company in Latin America, with the aim of reducing the high costs associated with the premium paid to the insurer. To achieve this goal, a thorough analysis was conducted to estimate the probability of losses based on delivery routes, transportation modes, and delivery drivers’ profiles. A large amount of data was collected and used as a database, and various statistical models and machine learning techniques were employed to construct a comprehensive risk profile and perform risk classification. Based on the risk classification and the estimated probability associated with it, a new pricing model for delivery insurance was developed using advanced mathematical algorithms and machine learning techniques. This new pricing model took into account the pattern of loss occurrence and high and low-risk behaviors, resulting in a significant reduction of insurance costs for both the contracting company and the insurer. The proposed pricing model also allowed for greater flexibility in insurance contracting, making it more accessible and appealing to delivery drivers. The use of estimated loss probabilities and a risk score for the pricing of delivery insurance proved to be a highly effective and efficient alternative for reducing the high costs associated with insurance, while also improving the profitability and competitiveness of the food delivery company in Latin America.

Abstract One of the main challenges in screening of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques is the class imbalance problem, where the number of different EOR techniques is not equal. This problem hinders the generalization of the data-driven methods used to predict suitable EOR techniques for candidate reservoirs. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a novel approach to overcome the above challenge by taking advantage of the Power-Law Committee Machine (PLCM) technique optimized by Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) to combine the output of five cutting-edge machine learning methods with different types of learning algorithms. The PLCM method has not been used in previous studies for EOR screening. The machine learning models include the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), CatBoost, Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The CatBoost is used for the first time in this work for screening of EOR methods. The role of the PSO is to find the optimal values for the coefficients and exponents of the power-law model. In this study, a bigger dataset than those in previous studies, including 2563 successful worldwide EOR experiences, was gathered. A bigger dataset improves the generalization of the data-driven methods and prevents overfitting. The hyperparameters of the individual machine-learning models were tuned using the fivefold cross-validation technique. The results showed that all the individual methods could predict the suitable EOR method for unseen cases with an average score of 0.868. Among the machine learning models, the KNN and SVM had the highest scores with a value of 0.894 and 0.892, respectively. Nonetheless, after combining the output of the models using the PLCM method, the score of the predictions improved to 0.963, which was a substantial increase. Finally, a feature importance analysis was conducted to find out the most influential parameters on the output. The novelty of this work is having shown the ability of the PLCM technique to construct an accurate model to overcome the class-imbalance issue in EOR screening by utilizing different types of data-driven models. According to feature importance analysis, oil gravity and formation porosity were recognized as the most influential parameters on EOR screening.

Abstract This paper presents a study investigating the performance of functionally graded material (FGM) annular fins in heat transfer applications. An annular fin is a circular or annular structure used to improve heat transfer in various systems such as heat exchangers, electronic cooling systems, and power generation equipment. The main objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of the ring fin in terms of heat transfer and temperature distribution. The fin surfaces are exposed to convection and radiation to dissipate heat. A supervised machine learning method was used to study the heat transfer characteristics and temperature distribution in the annular fin. In particular, a feedback architecture with the BFGS Quasi-Newton training algorithm (trainbfg) was used to analyze the solutions of the mathematical model governing the problem. This approach allows an in-depth study of the performance of fins, taking into account various physical parameters that affect its performance. To ensure the accuracy of the obtained solutions, a comparative analysis was performed using guided machine learning. The results were compared with those obtained by conventional methods such as the homotopy perturbation method, the finite difference method, and the Runge–Kutta method. In addition, a thorough statistical analysis was performed to confirm the reliability of the solutions. The results of this study provide valuable information on the behavior and performance of annular fins made from functionally graded materials. These findings contribute to the design and optimization of heat transfer systems, enabling better heat management and efficient use of available space.

Abstract In this paper, we prove the existence of a reservoir that has a finite-dimensional output and makes the reservoir computing model universal. Reservoir computing is a method for dynamical system approximation that trains the static part of a model but fixes the dynamical part called the reservoir. Hence, reservoir computing has the advantage of training models with a low computational cost. Moreover, fixed reservoirs can be implemented as physical systems. Such reservoirs have attracted attention in terms of computation speed and energy consumption. The universality of a reservoir computing model is its ability to approximate an arbitrary system with arbitrary accuracy. Two sufficient reservoir conditions to make the model universal have been proposed. The first is the combination of fading memory and the separation property. The second is the neighborhood separation property, which we proposed recently. To date, it has been unknown whether a reservoir with a finite-dimensional output can satisfy these conditions. In this study, we prove that no reservoir with a finite-dimensional output satisfies the former condition. By contrast, we propose a single output reservoir that satisfies the latter condition. This implies that, for any dimension, a reservoir making the model universal exists with the output of that specified dimension. These results clarify the practical importance of our proposed conditions.

Abstract The rapid increase in biomedical publications necessitates efficient systems to automatically handle Biomedical Named Entity Recognition (BioNER) tasks in unstructured text. However, accurately detecting biomedical entities is quite challenging due to the complexity of their names and the frequent use of abbreviations. In this paper, we propose BioBBC, a deep learning (DL) model that utilizes multi-feature embeddings and is constructed based on the BERT-BiLSTM-CRF to address the BioNER task. BioBBC consists of three main layers; an embedding layer, a Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) layer, and a Conditional Random Fields (CRF) layer. BioBBC takes sentences from the biomedical domain as input and identifies the biomedical entities mentioned within the text. The embedding layer generates enriched contextual representation vectors of the input by learning the text through four types of embeddings: part-of-speech tags (POS tags) embedding, char-level embedding, BERT embedding, and data-specific embedding. The BiLSTM layer produces additional syntactic and semantic feature representations. Finally, the CRF layer identifies the best possible tag sequence for the input sentence. Our model is well-constructed and well-optimized for detecting different types of biomedical entities. Based on experimental results, our model outperformed state-of-the-art (SOTA) models with significant improvements based on six benchmark BioNER datasets.

Abstract Semiconductor wafer manufacturing relies on the precise control of various performance metrics to ensure the quality and reliability of integrated circuits. In particular, GaN has properties that are advantageous for high voltage and high frequency power devices; however, defects in the substrate growth and manufacturing are preventing vertical devices from performing optimally. This paper explores the application of machine learning techniques utilizing data obtained from optical profilometry as input variables to predict the probability of a wafer meeting performance metrics, specifically the breakdown voltage (Vbk). By incorporating machine learning techniques, it is possible to reliably predict performance metrics that cause devices to fail at low voltage. For diodes that fail at a higher (but still below theoretical) breakdown voltage, alternative inspection methods or a combination of several experimental techniques may be necessary.

Abstract This paper presents the use of one-way analysis of variance ANOVA as an effective tool for ranking the features calculated from diagnostic signals and evaluates their impact on the accuracy of the machine learning system's classification of displacement pump wear.The first part includes a review of contemporary diagnostic systems and a description of typical damage of multi-piston displacement pumps and Its causes. The work also contains description of a diagnostic experiment which was conducted in order to obtain the matrix of vibration signals and the matrix of pressures measured at selected locations on the pump housing and at the pump pressure line. The measured signals were subjected to time–frequency analysis. The features of signals calculated in the time and frequency domains were ranked using the ANOVA. The next step involved the use the available classifiers in pump wear evaluation, conducting tests and assessing their effectiveness in terms of the ranking of features and the origin of diagnostic signals.

Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) integration in healthcare improves patient care while also making healthcare delivery systems more effective and economical. To fully realize the advantages of IoT in healthcare, it is imperative to overcome issues with data security, interoperability, and ethical considerations. IoT sensors periodically measure the health-related data of the patients and share it with a server for further evaluation. At the server, different machine learning algorithms are applied which help in early diagnosis of diseases and issue alerts in case vital signs are out of the normal range. Different cyber attacks can be launched on IoT devices which can result in compromised security and privacy of applications such as health care. In this paper, we utilize the publicly available Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) IoT dataset to model machine learning techniques for efficient detection of anomalous network traffic. The dataset consists of 33 types of IoT attacks which are divided into 7 main categories. In the current study, the dataset is pre-processed, and a balanced representation of classes is used in generating a non-biased supervised (Random Forest, Adaptive Boosting, Logistic Regression, Perceptron, Deep Neural Network) machine learning models. These models are analyzed further by eliminating highly correlated features, reducing dimensionality, minimizing overfitting, and speeding up training times. Random Forest was found to perform optimally across binary and multiclass classification of IoT Attacks with an approximate accuracy of 99.55% under both reduced and all feature space. This improvement was complimented by a reduction in computational response time which is essential for real-time attack detection and response.

The utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is on the rise, demanding increased accessibility to (public) medical data for benchmarking. The digitization of healthcare in recent years has facilitated medical data scientists' access to extensive hospital data, fostering AI-based research. A notable addition to this trend is the Salzburg Intensive Care database (SICdb), made publicly available in early 2023. Covering over 27 thousand intensive care admissions at the University Hospital Salzburg from 2013 to 2021, this dataset presents a valuable resource for AI-driven investigations. This article explores the SICdb and conducts a comparative analysis with the widely recognized Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care - version IV (MIMIC-IV) database. The comparison focuses on key aspects, emphasizing the availability and granularity of data provided by the SICdb, particularly vital signs and laboratory measurements. The analysis demonstrates that the SICdb offers more detailed information with higher data availability and temporal resolution for signal data, especially for vital signs, compared to the MIMIC-IV. This is advantageous for longitudinal studies of patients' health conditions in the intensive care unit. The SICdb provides a valuable resource for medical data scientists and researchers. The database offers comprehensive and diverse healthcare data in a European country, making it well suited for benchmarking and enhancing AI-based healthcare research. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are tumor cells that separate from the solid tumor and enter the bloodstream, which can cause metastasis. Detection and enumeration of CTCs show promising potential as a predictor for prognosis in cancer patients. Furthermore, single-cells sequencing is a technique that provides genetic information from individual cells and allows to classify them precisely and reliably. Sequencing data typically comprises thousands of gene expression reads per cell, which artificial intelligence algorithms can accurately analyze. This work presents machine-learning-based classifiers that differentiate CTCs from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) based on single cell RNA sequencing data. We developed four tree-based models and we trained and tested them on a dataset consisting of Smart-Seq2 sequenced data from primary tumor sections of breast cancer patients and PBMCs and on a public dataset with manually annotated CTC expression profiles from 34 metastatic breast patients, including triple-negative breast cancer. Our best models achieved about 95% balanced accuracy on the CTC test set on per cell basis, correctly detecting 133 out of 138 CTCs and CTC-PBMC clusters. Liquefaction is a devastating consequence of earthquakes that occurs in loose, saturated soil deposits, resulting in catastrophic ground failure. Accurate prediction of such geotechnical parameter is crucial for mitigating hazards, assessing risks, and advancing geotechnical engineering. This study introduces a novel predictive model that combines Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) with Dingo Optimization Algorithm (DOA) to estimate strain energy-based liquefaction resistance. The hybrid model (ELM-DOA) is compared with the classical ELM, Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System with Fuzzy C-Means (ANFIS-FCM model), and Sub-clustering (ANFIS-Sub model). Also, two data pre-processing scenarios are employed, namely traditional linear and non-linear normalization. The results demonstrate that non-linear normalization significantly enhances the prediction performance of all models by approximately 25% compared to linear normalization. Furthermore, the ELM-DOA model achieves the most accurate predictions, exhibiting the lowest root mean square error (484.286 J/m3), mean absolute percentage error (24.900%), mean absolute error (404.416 J/m3), and the highest correlation of determination (0.935). Additionally, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed, specifically tailored for the ELM-DOA model, to assist engineers and researchers in maximizing the utilization of this predictive model. The GUI provides a user-friendly platform for easy input of data and accessing the model's predictions, enhancing its practical applicability. Overall, the results strongly support the proposed hybrid model with GUI serving as an effective tool for assessing soil liquefaction resistance in geotechnical engineering, aiding in predicting and mitigating liquefaction hazards. This study investigates the application of cavitation in non-invasive abdominal fat reduction and body contouring, a topic of considerable interest in the medical and aesthetic fields. We explore the potential of cavitation to alter abdominal fat composition and delve into the optimization of fat prediction models using advanced hyperparameter optimization techniques, Hyperopt and Optuna. Our objective is to enhance the predictive accuracy of abdominal fat dynamics post-cavitation treatment. Employing a robust dataset with abdominal fat measurements and cavitation treatment parameters, we evaluate the efficacy of our approach through regression analysis. The performance of Hyperopt and Optuna regression models is assessed using metrics such as mean squared error, mean absolute error, and R-squared score. Our results reveal that both models exhibit strong predictive capabilities, with R-squared scores reaching 94.12% and 94.11% for post-treatment visceral fat, and 71.15% and 70.48% for post-treatment subcutaneous fat predictions, respectively. Additionally, we investigate feature selection techniques to pinpoint critical predictors within the fat prediction models. Techniques including F-value selection, mutual information, recursive feature elimination with logistic regression and random forests, variance thresholding, and feature importance evaluation are utilized. The analysis identifies key features such as BMI, waist circumference, and pretreatment fat levels as significant predictors of post-treatment fat outcomes. Our findings underscore the effectiveness of hyperparameter optimization in refining fat prediction models and offer valuable insights for the advancement of non-invasive fat reduction methods. This research holds important implications for both the scientific community and clinical practitioners, paving the way for improved treatment strategies in the realm of body contouring. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease, characterized by spontaneous, unprovoked, recurrent seizures that may lead to long-term disability and premature death. Despite significant efforts made to improve epilepsy detection clinically and pre-clinically, the pervasive presence of noise in EEG signals continues to pose substantial challenges to their effective application. In addition, discriminant features for epilepsy detection have not been investigated yet. The objective of this study is to develop a hybrid model for epilepsy detection from noisy and fragmented EEG signals. We hypothesized that a hybrid model could surpass existing single models in epilepsy detection. Our approach involves manual noise rejection and a novel statistical channel selection technique to detect epilepsy even from noisy EEG signals. Our proposed Base-2-Meta stacking classifier achieved notable accuracy (0.98 ± 0.05), precision (0.98 ± 0.07), recall (0.98 ± 0.05), and F1 score (0.98 ± 0.04) even with noisy 5-s segmented EEG signals. Application of our approach to the specific problem like detection of epilepsy from noisy and fragmented EEG data reveals a performance that is not only superior to others, but also is translationally relevant, highlighting its potential application in a clinic setting, where EEG signals are often noisy or scanty. Our proposed metric DF-A (Discriminant feature-accuracy), for the first time, identified the most discriminant feature with models that give A accuracy or above (A = 95 used in this study). This groundbreaking approach allows for detecting discriminant features and can be used as potential electrographic biomarkers in epilepsy detection research. Moreover, our study introduces innovative insights into the understanding of these features, epilepsy detection, and cross-validation, markedly improving epilepsy detection in ways previously unavailable. Cervical cancer, the second most prevalent cancer affecting women, arises from abnormal cell growth in the cervix, a crucial anatomical structure within the uterus. The significance of early detection cannot be overstated, prompting the use of various screening methods such as Pap smears, colposcopy, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing to identify potential risks and initiate timely intervention. These screening procedures encompass visual inspections, Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, and HPV-DNA testing, each demanding the specialized knowledge and skills of experienced physicians and pathologists due to the inherently subjective nature of cancer diagnosis. In response to the imperative for efficient and intelligent screening, this article introduces a groundbreaking methodology that leverages pre-trained deep neural network models, including Alexnet, Resnet-101, Resnet-152, and InceptionV3, for feature extraction. The fine-tuning of these models is accompanied by the integration of diverse machine learning algorithms, with ResNet152 showcasing exceptional performance, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 98.08%. It is noteworthy that the SIPaKMeD dataset, publicly accessible and utilized in this study, contributes to the transparency and reproducibility of our findings. The proposed hybrid methodology combines aspects of DL and ML for cervical cancer classification. Most intricate and complicated features from images can be extracted through DL. Further various ML algorithms can be implemented on extracted features.
