The multi-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is widely utilized in clinical diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac conditions. The advancement of deep learning has led to the emergence of automated multi-lead ECG diagnostic networks, which have become essential in the fields of biomedical engineering and clinical cardiac disease diagnosis. Intelligent ECG diagnosis techniques encompass Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Transformers, and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). While CNN is capable of extracting local spatial information from images, it lacks the ability to learn global spatial features and temporal memory features. Conversely, RNN relies on time and can retain significant sequential features. However, they are not proficient in extracting lengthy dependencies of sequence data in practical scenarios. The self-attention mechanism in the Transformer model has the capability of global feature extraction, but it does not adequately prioritize local features and cannot extract spatial and channel features. This paper proposes STFAC-ECGNet, a model that incorporates CAMV-RNN block, CBMV-CNN block, and TSEF block to enhance the performance of the model by integrating the strengths of CNN, RNN, and Transformer. The CAMV-RNN block incorporates a coordinated adaptive simplified self-attention module that adaptively carries out global sequence feature retention and enhances spatial–temporal information. The CBMV-CNN block integrates spatial and channel attentional mechanism modules in a skip connection, enabling the fusion of spatial and channel information. The TSEF block implements enhanced multi-scale fusion of image spatial and sequence temporal features. In this study, comprehensive experiments were conducted using the PTB-XL large publicly available ECG dataset and the China Physiological Signal Challenge 2018 (CPSC2018) database. Chemical molecular structures are a direct and convenient means of expressing chemical knowledge, playing a vital role in academic communication. In chemistry, hand drawing is a common task for students and researchers. If we can convert hand-drawn chemical molecular structures into machine-readable formats, like SMILES encoding, computers can efficiently process and analyze these structures, significantly enhancing the efficiency of chemical research. Furthermore, with the progress of educational technology, automated grading is gaining popularity. When machines automatically recognize chemical molecular structures and assess the correctness of the drawings, it offers great convenience to teachers. We created ChemReco, a tool designed to identify chemical molecular structures involving three atoms: C, H, and O, providing convenience for chemical researchers. Currently, there are limited studies on hand-drawn chemical molecular structures. Therefore, the primary focus of this paper is constructing datasets. We propose a synthetic image method to rapidly generate images resembling hand-drawn chemical molecular structures, enhancing dataset acquisition efficiency. Regarding model selection, the hand-drawn chemical molecule structural recognition model developed in this article achieves a final recognition accuracy of 96.90%. The hippocampus is a critical component of the brain and is associated with many neurological disorders. It can be further subdivided into several subfields, and accurate segmentation of these subfields is of great significance for diagnosis and research. However, the structures of hippocampal subfields are irregular and have complex boundaries, and their voxel values are close to surrounding brain tissues, making the segmentation task highly challenging. Currently, many automatic segmentation tools exist for hippocampal subfield segmentation, but they suffer from high time costs and low segmentation accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new dual-branch segmentation network structure (DSnet) based on deep learning for hippocampal subfield segmentation. While traditional convolutional neural network-based methods are effective in capturing hierarchical structures, they struggle to establish long-term dependencies. The DSnet integrates the Transformer architecture and a hybrid attention mechanism, enhancing the network's global perceptual capabilities. Moreover, the dual-branch structure of DSnet leverages the segmentation results of the hippocampal region to facilitate the segmentation of its subfields. We validate the efficacy of our algorithm on the public Kulaga-Yoskovitz dataset. Experimental results indicate that our method is more effective in segmenting hippocampal subfields than conventional single-branch network structures. In recent years, the growth spurt of medical imaging data has led to the development of various machine learning algorithms for various healthcare applications. The MedMNISTv2 dataset, a comprehensive benchmark for 2D biomedical image classification, encompasses diverse medical imaging modalities such as Fundus Camera, Breast Ultrasound, Colon Pathology, Blood Cell Microscope etc. Highly accurate classifications performed on these datasets is crucial for identification of various diseases and determining the course of treatment. This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of four subsets within the MedMNISTv2 dataset: BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST. Each of these selected datasets is of diverse data modalities and comes with various sample sizes, and have been selected to analyze the efficiency of the model against diverse data modalities. The study explores the idea of assessing the Vision Transformer Model's ability to capture intricate patterns and features crucial for these medical image classification and thereby transcend the benchmark metrics substantially. The methodology includes pre-processing the input images which is followed by training the ViT-base-patch16-224 model on the mentioned datasets. The performance of the model is assessed using key metrices and by comparing the classification accuracies achieved with the benchmark accuracies. With the assistance of ViT, the new benchmarks achieved for BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST are 97.90%, 90.38%, 94.62% and 57%, respectively. Polyp detection is a challenging task in the diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer (CRC), and it demands clinical expertise due to the diverse nature of polyps. The recent years have witnessed the development of automated polyp detection systems to assist the experts in early diagnosis, considerably reducing the time consumption and diagnostic errors. In automated CRC diagnosis, polyp segmentation is an important step which is carried out with deep learning segmentation models. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViT) are slowly replacing these models due to their ability to capture long range dependencies among image patches. However, the existing ViTs for polyp do not harness the inherent self-attention abilities and incorporate complex attention mechanisms. This paper presents Polyp-Vision Transformer (Polyp-ViT), a novel Transformer model based on the conventional Transformer architecture, which is enhanced with adaptive mechanisms for feature extraction and positional embedding. Polyp-ViT is tested on the Kvasir-seg and CVC-Clinic DB Datasets achieving segmentation accuracies of 0.9891 ± 0.01 and 0.9875 ± 0.71 respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art models. The problem of change detection in remote sensing image processing is both difficult and important. It is extensively used in a variety of sectors, including land resource planning, monitoring and forecasting of agricultural plant health, and monitoring and assessment of natural disasters. Remote sensing images provide a large amount of long-term and fully covered data for earth environmental monitoring. A lot of progress has been made thanks to deep learning's quick development. But the majority of deep learning-based change detection techniques currently in use rely on the well-known Convolutional neural network (CNN). However, considering the locality of convolutional operation, CNN unable to master the interplay between global and distant semantic information. Some researches has employ Vision Transformer as a backbone in remote sensing field. Inspired by these researches, in this paper, we propose a network named Siam-Swin-Unet, which is a Siamesed pure Transformer with U-shape construction for remote sensing image change detection. Swin Transformer is a hierarchical vision transformer with shifted windows that can extract global feature. To learn local and global semantic feature information, the dual-time image are fed into Siam-Swin-Unet which is composed of Swin Transformer, Unet Siamesenet and two feature fusion module. Considered the Unet and Siamesenet are effective for change detection, We applied it to the model. The feature fusion module is designed for fusion of dual-time image features, and is efficient and low-compute confirmed by our experiments. Non-Small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most dangerous cancers, with 85% of all new lung cancer diagnoses and a 30–55% of recurrence rate after surgery. Thus, an accurate prediction of recurrence risk in NSCLC patients during diagnosis could be essential to drive targeted therapies preventing either overtreatment or undertreatment of cancer patients. The radiomic analysis of CT images has already shown great potential in solving this task; specifically, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have already been proposed providing good performances. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViTs) have been introduced, reaching comparable and even better performances than traditional CNNs in image classification. The aim of the proposed paper was to compare the performances of different state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms to predict cancer recurrence in NSCLC patients. In this work, using a public database of 144 patients, we implemented a transfer learning approach, involving different Transformers architectures like pre-trained ViTs, pre-trained Pyramid Vision Transformers, and pre-trained Swin Transformers to predict the recurrence of NSCLC patients from CT images, comparing their performances with state-of-the-art CNNs. Although, the best performances in this study are reached via CNNs with AUC, Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, and Precision equal to 0.91, 0.89, 0.85, 0.90, and 0.78, respectively, Transformer architectures reach comparable ones with AUC, Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, and Precision equal to 0.90, 0.86, 0.81, 0.89, and 0.75, respectively. The automatic segmentation of the pharyngeal airway space has many potential medical use, one of which is to help facilitate the creation of the Tubingen Palatal Plate. Therefore, it is of great importance to understand which methods are suitable for this task. Here, neural network based solutions available in the literature are compared to find the best methods. Neural network models were chosen to encompass a diverse landscape. Some models were taken from the general semantic segmentation literature, while others were taken from the medical or pharyngeal airway space segmentation literature. Some models are convolutional neural networks, while others are transformer-based model or a mix of both convolutional and transformer-based model. These models include 2d/3d U-Net, Deeplabv3, YOLOv8, Swinv2 UNETR, SegFormer, and 3D MRU-Net. Furthermore, additional strategies to enhance performance were also considered. These strategies consisted of training two separate networks in multiple stages as well leveraging unlabeled data to pretrain the neural networks before fine-tuning them on the labeled data. It was found that out of all the models considered here, the 2d U-Net performed the best achieving an average dice score of 0.9180 ± 0.0111. Out of all the strategies to enhance performance, only two strategies improve the actual results but only by a small margin. Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is a well established technique in electron microscopy that yields information on the elemental content of a sample in a very direct manner. One of the persisting limitations of EELS is the requirement for manual identification of core-loss edges and their corresponding elements. This can be especially bothersome in spectrum imaging, where a large amount of spectra are recorded when spatially scanning over a sample area. This paper introduces a synthetic dataset with 736,000 labeled EELS spectra, computed from available generalized oscillator strength tables, that represents 107 K, L, M or N core-loss edges and 80 chemical elements. Generic lifetime broadened peaks are used to mimic the fine structure due to band structure effects present in experimental core-loss edges. The proposed dataset is used to train and evaluate a series of neural network architectures, being a multilayer perceptron, a convolutional neural network, a U-Net, a residual neural network, a vision transformer and a compact convolutional transformer. An ensemble of neural networks is used to further increase performance. The ensemble network is used to demonstrate fully automated elemental mapping in a spectrum image, both by directly mapping the predicted elemental content and by using the predicted content as input for a physical model-based mapping. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a major cause of blindness worldwide. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent vision loss, making accurate and timely diagnosis critical. Deep learning technology has shown promise in the automated diagnosis of DR, and in particular, multi-lesion segmentation tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel Transformer-based model for DR segmentation that incorporates hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module. The proposed model is primarily built on a traditional Vision Transformer encoder and further enhanced by incorporating a spatial prior module for image convolution and feature continuity, followed by feature interaction processing using the spatial feature injector and extractor. Hyperbolic embeddings are used to classify feature matrices from the model at the pixel level. We evaluated the proposed model's performance on the publicly available datasets and compared it with other widely used DR segmentation models. The results show that our model outperforms these widely used DR segmentation models. The incorporation of hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module into the Vision Transformer-based model significantly improves the accuracy of DR segmentation. The hyperbolic embeddings enable us to better capture the underlying geometric structure of the feature matrices, which is important for accurate segmentation. The spatial prior module improves the continuity of the features and helps to better distinguish between lesions and normal tissues. Overall, our proposed model has potential for clinical use in automated DR diagnosis, improving accuracy and speed of diagnosis. Our study shows that the integration of hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module with a Vision Transformer-based model improves the performance of DR segmentation models. Detecting the water deficit status of vertical greenery plants rapidly and accurately is a significant challenge in the process of cultivating and planting greenery plants. Currently, the mainstream method involves utilizing a single target detection algorithm for this task. However, in complex real-world scenarios, the accuracy of detection is influenced by factors such as image quality and background environment. Therefore, we propose a multi-stage progressive detection method aimed at enhancing detection accuracy by gradually filtering, processing, and detecting images through a multi-stage architecture. Additionally, to reduce the additional computational load brought by multiple stages and improve overall detection efficiency, we introduce a Swin Transformer based on mobile windows and hierarchical representations for feature extraction, along with global feature modeling through a self-attention mechanism. The experimental results demonstrate that our multi-stage detection approach achieves high accuracy in vertical greenery plants detection tasks, with an average precision of 93.5%. The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has tied up significant medical resources, and its management poses a challenge for the public health care decision making. Accurate predictions of the hospitalizations are crucial for the decision makers to make informed decision for the medical resource allocation. This paper proposes a method named County Augmented Transformer (CAT). To generate accurate predictions of four-week-ahead COVID-19 related hospitalizations for every states in the United States. Inspired by the modern deep learning techniques, our method is based on a self-attention model (known as the transformer model) that is actively used in Natural Language Processing. Our transformer based model can capture both short-term and long-term dependencies within the time series while enjoying computational efficiency. Our model is a data based approach that utilizes the publicly available information including the COVID-19 related number of confirmed cases, deaths, hospitalizations data, and the household median income data. Timely and effective diagnosis of fungal keratitis (FK) is necessary for suitable treatment and avoiding irreversible vision loss for patients. In vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) has been widely adopted to guide the FK diagnosis. We present a deep learning framework for diagnosing fungal keratitis using IVCM images to assist ophthalmologists. Inspired by the real diagnostic process, our method employs a two-stage deep architecture for diagnostic predictions based on both image-level and sequence-level information. To the best of our knowledge, we collected the largest dataset with 96,632 IVCM images in total with expert labeling to train and evaluate our method. The specificity and sensitivity of our method in diagnosing FK on the unseen test set achieved 96.65% and 97.57%, comparable or better than experienced ophthalmologists. The network can provide image-level, sequence-level and patient-level diagnostic suggestions to physicians. The results show great promise for assisting ophthalmologists in FK diagnosis. Grape cultivation is important globally, contributing to the agricultural economy and providing diverse grape-based products. However, the susceptibility of grapes to disease poses a significant threat to yield and quality. Traditional disease identification methods demand expert knowledge, which limits scalability and efficiency. To address these limitations our research aims to design an automated deep learning approach for grape leaf disease detection. This research introduces a novel dual-track network for classifying grape leaf diseases, employing a combination of the Swin Transformer and Group Shuffle Residual DeformNet (GSRDN) tracks. The Swin Transformer track exploits shifted window techniques to construct hierarchical feature maps, enhancing global feature extraction. Simultaneously, the GSRDN track combines Group Shuffle Depthwise Residual block and Deformable Convolution block to extract local features with reduced computational complexity. The features from both tracks are concatenated and processed through Triplet Attention for cross-dimensional interaction. The proposed model achieved an accuracy of 98.6%, the precision, recall, and F1-score are recorded as 98.7%, 98.59%, and 98.64%, respectively as validated on a dataset containing grape leaf disease information from the PlantVillage dataset, demonstrating its potential for efficient grape disease classification. In human–computer interaction systems, speech emotion recognition (SER) plays a crucial role because it enables computers to understand and react to users' emotions. In the past, SER has significantly emphasised acoustic properties extracted from speech signals. The use of visual signals for enhancing SER performance, however, has been made possible by recent developments in deep learning and computer vision. This work utilizes a lightweight Vision Transformer (ViT) model to propose a novel method for improving speech emotion recognition. We leverage the ViT model's capabilities to capture spatial dependencies and high-level features in images which are adequate indicators of emotional states from mel spectrogram input fed into the model. To determine the efficiency of our proposed approach, we conduct a comprehensive experiment on two benchmark speech emotion datasets, the Toronto English Speech Set (TESS) and the Berlin Emotional Database (EMODB). The results of our extensive experiment demonstrate a considerable improvement in speech emotion recognition accuracy attesting to its generalizability as it achieved 98%, 91%, and 93% (TESS-EMODB) accuracy respectively on the datasets. The outcomes of the comparative experiment show that the non-overlapping patch-based feature extraction method substantially improves the discipline of speech emotion recognition. Vitiligo is a hypopigmented skin disease characterized by the loss of melanin. The progressive nature and widespread incidence of vitiligo necessitate timely and accurate detection. Usually, a single diagnostic test often falls short of providing definitive confirmation of the condition, necessitating the assessment by dermatologists who specialize in vitiligo. However, the current scarcity of such specialized medical professionals presents a significant challenge. To mitigate this issue and enhance diagnostic accuracy, it is essential to build deep learning models that can support and expedite the detection process. This study endeavors to establish a deep learning framework to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of vitiligo. To this end, a comparative analysis of five models including ResNet (ResNet34, ResNet50, and ResNet101 models) and Swin Transformer series (Swin Transformer Base, and Swin Transformer Large models), were conducted under the uniform condition to identify the model with superior classification capabilities. Moreover, the study sought to augment the interpretability of these models by selecting one that not only provides accurate diagnostic outcomes but also offers visual cues highlighting the regions pertinent to vitiligo. The empirical findings reveal that the Swin Transformer Large model achieved the best performance in classification, whose AUC, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity are 0.94, 93.82%, 94.02%, and 93.5%, respectively. In terms of interpretability, the highlighted regions in the class activation map correspond to the lesion regions of the vitiligo images, which shows that it effectively indicates the specific category regions associated with the decision-making of dermatological diagnosis. Additionally, the visualization of feature maps generated in the middle layer of the deep learning model provides insights into the internal mechanisms of the model, which is valuable for improving the interpretability of the model, tuning performance, and enhancing clinical applicability. This study aims to explore the research methodology of applying the Transformer model algorithm to Chinese word sense disambiguation, seeking to resolve word sense ambiguity in the Chinese language. The study introduces deep learning and designs a Chinese word sense disambiguation model based on the fusion of the Transformer with the Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) algorithm. By utilizing the self-attention mechanism of Transformer and the sequence modeling capability of BiLSTM, this model efficiently captures semantic information and context relationships in Chinese sentences, leading to accurate word sense disambiguation. The model's evaluation is conducted using the PKU Paraphrase Bank, a Chinese text paraphrase dataset. The results demonstrate that the model achieves a precision rate of 83.71% in Chinese word sense disambiguation, significantly outperforming the Long Short-Term Memory algorithm. Additionally, the root mean squared error of this algorithm is less than 17, with a loss function value remaining around 0.14. Thus, this study validates that the constructed Transformer-fused BiLSTM-based Chinese word sense disambiguation model algorithm exhibits both high accuracy and robustness in identifying word senses in the Chinese language. Accurately predicting population mortality rates is crucial for effective retirement insurance and economic policy formulation. Recent advancements in deep learning time series forecasting (DLTSF) have led to improved mortality rate predictions compared to traditional models like Lee-Carter (LC). This study focuses on mortality rate prediction in large clusters across Europe. By utilizing PCA dimensionality reduction and statistical clustering techniques, we integrate age features from high-dimensional mortality data of multiple countries, analyzing their similarities and differences. To capture the heterogeneous characteristics, an adaptive adjustment matrix is generated, incorporating sequential variation and spatial geographical information. Additionally, a combination of graph neural networks and a transformer network with an adaptive adjustment matrix is employed to capture the spatiotemporal features between different clusters. Extensive numerical experiments using data from the Human Mortality Database validate the superiority of the proposed GT-A model over traditional LC models and other classic neural networks in terms of prediction accuracy. Deep neural networks combined with superpixel segmentation have proven to be superior to high-resolution remote sensing image (HRI) classification. Currently, most HRI classification methods that combine deep learning and superpixel segmentation use stacking on multiple scales to extract contextual information from segmented objects. However, this approach does not take into account the contextual dependencies between each segmented object. To solve this problem, a joint superpixel and Transformer (JST) framework is proposed for HRI classification. In JST, HRI is first segmented into superpixel objects as input, and Transformer is used to model the long-range dependencies. The contextual relationship between each input superpixel object is obtained and the class of analyzed objects is output by designing an encoding and decoding Transformer. Additionally, we explore the effect of semantic range on classification accuracy. JST is also tested by using two HRI datasets with overall classification accuracy, average accuracy and Kappa coefficients of 0.79, 0.70, 0.78 and 0.91, 0.85, 0.89, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed method is compared qualitatively and quantitatively, and the results achieve competitive and consistently better than the benchmark comparison method. Accurately obtaining accurate information about the future traffic flow of all roads in the transportation network is essential for traffic management and control applications. In order to address the challenges of acquiring dynamic global spatial correlations between transportation links and modeling time dependencies in multi-step prediction, we propose a spatial linear transformer and temporal convolution network (SLTTCN). The model is using spatial linear transformers to aggregate the spatial information of the traffic flow, and bidirectional temporal convolution network to capture the temporal dependency of the traffic flow. The spatial linear transformer effectively reduces the complexity of data calculation and storage while capturing spatial dependence, and the time convolutional network with bidirectional and gate fusion mechanisms avoids the problems of gradient vanishing and high computational cost caused by long time intervals during model training. We conducted extensive experiments using two publicly available large-scale traffic data sets and compared SLTTCN with other baselines. Numerical results show that SLTTCN achieves the best predictive performance in various error measurements. Climatic factors influence malaria transmission via the effect on the Anopheles vector and Plasmodium parasite. Modelling and understanding the complex effects that climate has on malaria incidence can enable important early warning capabilities. Deep learning applications across fields are proving valuable, however the field of epidemiological forecasting is still in its infancy with a lack of applied deep learning studies for malaria in southern Africa which leverage quality datasets. Using a novel high resolution malaria incidence dataset containing 23 years of daily data from 1998 to 2021, a statistical model and XGBOOST machine learning model were compared to a deep learning Transformer model by assessing the accuracy of their numerical predictions. A novel loss function, used to account for the variable nature of the data yielded performance around + 20% compared to the standard MSE loss. When numerical predictions were converted to alert thresholds to mimic use in a real-world setting, the Transformer's performance of 80% according to AUROC was 20–40% higher than the statistical and XGBOOST models and it had the highest overall accuracy of 98%. The Transformer performed consistently with increased accuracy as more climate variables were used, indicating further potential for this prediction framework to predict malaria incidence at a daily level using climate data for southern Africa. The high incidence rates of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cause a significant burden at pathology laboratories. The standard diagnostic process is time-consuming and prone to inter-pathologist variability. Despite the application of deep learning approaches in grading of other cancer types, there is limited literature on the application of vision transformers to BCC on whole slide images (WSIs). A total of 1832 WSIs from 479 BCCs, divided into training and validation (1435 WSIs from 369 BCCs) and testing (397 WSIs from 110 BCCs) sets, were weakly annotated into four aggressivity subtypes. We used a combination of a graph neural network and vision transformer to (1) detect the presence of tumor (two classes), (2) classify the tumor into low and high-risk subtypes (three classes), and (3) classify four aggressivity subtypes (five classes). Using an ensemble model comprised of the models from cross-validation, accuracies of 93.5%, 86.4%, and 72% were achieved on two, three, and five class classifications, respectively. Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved promising performance in the field of deep learning, but the manual design turns out to be very difficult due to the increasingly complex topologies of CNNs. Recently, neural architecture search (NAS) methods have been proposed to automatically design network architectures, which are superior to handcrafted counterparts. Unfortunately, most current NAS methods suffer from either highly computational complexity of generated architectures or limitations in the flexibility of architecture design. To address above issues, this article proposes an evolutionary neural architecture search (ENAS) method based on improved Transformer and multi-branch ConvNet. The multi-branch block enriches the feature space and enhances the representational capacity of a network by combining paths with different complexities. Since convolution is inherently a local operation, a simple yet powerful "batch-free normalization Transformer Block" (BFNTBlock) is proposed to leverage both local information and long-range feature dependencies. In particular, the design of batch-free normalization (BFN) and batch normalization (BN) mixed in the BFNTBlock blocks the accumulation of estimation shift ascribe to the stack of BN, which has favorable effects for performance improvement. The proposed method achieves remarkable accuracies, 97.24 % and 80.06 % on CIFAR10 and CIFAR100, respectively, with high computational efficiency, i.e. only 1.46 and 1.53 GPU days. To validate the universality of our method in application scenarios, the proposed algorithm is verified on two real-world applications, including the GTSRB and NEU-CLS dataset, and achieves a better performance than common methods. The electroencephalogram (EEG) based motor imagery (MI) signal classification, also known as motion recognition, is a highly popular area of research due to its applications in robotics, gaming, and medical fields. However, the problem is ill-posed as these signals are non-stationary and noisy. Recently, a lot of efforts have been made to improve MI signal classification using a combination of signal decomposition and machine learning techniques but they fail to perform adequately on large multi-class datasets. Previously, researchers have implemented long short-term memory (LSTM), which is capable of learning the time-series information, on the MI-EEG dataset for motion recognition. However, it can not model very long-term dependencies present in the motion recognition data. With the advent of transformer networks in natural language processing (NLP), the long-term dependency issue has been widely addressed. Motivated by the success of transformer algorithms, in this article, we propose a transformer-based deep learning neural network architecture that performs motion recognition on the raw BCI competition III IVa and IV 2a datasets. The validation results show that the proposed method achieves superior performance than the existing state-of-the-art methods. The proposed method produces classification accuracy of 99.7% and 84% on the binary class and the multi-class datasets, respectively. Tumour heterogeneity in breast cancer poses challenges in predicting outcome and response to therapy. Spatial transcriptomics technologies may address these challenges, as they provide a wealth of information about gene expression at the cell level, but they are expensive, hindering their use in large-scale clinical oncology studies. Predicting gene expression from hematoxylin and eosin stained histology images provides a more affordable alternative for such studies. Here we present BrST-Net, a deep learning framework for predicting gene expression from histopathology images using spatial transcriptomics data. Using this framework, we trained and evaluated four distinct state-of-the-art deep learning architectures, which include ResNet101, Inception-v3, EfficientNet (with six different variants), and vision transformer (with two different variants), all without utilizing pretrained weights for the prediction of 250 genes. To enhance the generalisation performance of the main network, we introduce an auxiliary network into the framework. Our methodology outperforms previous studies, with 237 genes identified with positive correlation, including 24 genes with a median correlation coefficient greater than 0.50. This is a notable improvement over previous studies, which could predict only 102 genes with positive correlation, with the highest correlation values ranging from 0.29 to 0.34. As many as 80% of critically ill patients develop delirium increasing the need for institutionalization and higher morbidity and mortality. Clinicians detect less than 40% of delirium when using a validated screening tool. EEG is the criterion standard but is resource intensive thus not feasible for widespread delirium monitoring. This study evaluated the use of limited-lead rapid-response EEG and supervised deep learning methods with vision transformer to predict delirium. This proof-of-concept study used a prospective design to evaluate use of supervised deep learning with vision transformer and a rapid-response EEG device for predicting delirium in mechanically ventilated critically ill older adults. Fifteen different models were analyzed. Using all available data, the vision transformer models provided 99.9%+ training and 97% testing accuracy across models. Vision transformer with rapid-response EEG is capable of predicting delirium. Such monitoring is feasible in critically ill older adults. Therefore, this method has strong potential for improving the accuracy of delirium detection, providing greater opportunity for individualized interventions.
