In recent years, the growth spurt of medical imaging data has led to the development of various machine learning algorithms for various healthcare applications. The MedMNISTv2 dataset, a comprehensive benchmark for 2D biomedical image classification, encompasses diverse medical imaging modalities such as Fundus Camera, Breast Ultrasound, Colon Pathology, Blood Cell Microscope etc. Highly accurate classifications performed on these datasets is crucial for identification of various diseases and determining the course of treatment. This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of four subsets within the MedMNISTv2 dataset: BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST. Each of these selected datasets is of diverse data modalities and comes with various sample sizes, and have been selected to analyze the efficiency of the model against diverse data modalities. The study explores the idea of assessing the Vision Transformer Model's ability to capture intricate patterns and features crucial for these medical image classification and thereby transcend the benchmark metrics substantially. The methodology includes pre-processing the input images which is followed by training the ViT-base-patch16-224 model on the mentioned datasets. The performance of the model is assessed using key metrices and by comparing the classification accuracies achieved with the benchmark accuracies. With the assistance of ViT, the new benchmarks achieved for BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST are 97.90%, 90.38%, 94.62% and 57%, respectively. Polyp detection is a challenging task in the diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer (CRC), and it demands clinical expertise due to the diverse nature of polyps. The recent years have witnessed the development of automated polyp detection systems to assist the experts in early diagnosis, considerably reducing the time consumption and diagnostic errors. In automated CRC diagnosis, polyp segmentation is an important step which is carried out with deep learning segmentation models. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViT) are slowly replacing these models due to their ability to capture long range dependencies among image patches. However, the existing ViTs for polyp do not harness the inherent self-attention abilities and incorporate complex attention mechanisms. This paper presents Polyp-Vision Transformer (Polyp-ViT), a novel Transformer model based on the conventional Transformer architecture, which is enhanced with adaptive mechanisms for feature extraction and positional embedding. Polyp-ViT is tested on the Kvasir-seg and CVC-Clinic DB Datasets achieving segmentation accuracies of 0.9891 ± 0.01 and 0.9875 ± 0.71 respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art models. The problem of change detection in remote sensing image processing is both difficult and important. It is extensively used in a variety of sectors, including land resource planning, monitoring and forecasting of agricultural plant health, and monitoring and assessment of natural disasters. Remote sensing images provide a large amount of long-term and fully covered data for earth environmental monitoring. A lot of progress has been made thanks to deep learning's quick development. But the majority of deep learning-based change detection techniques currently in use rely on the well-known Convolutional neural network (CNN). However, considering the locality of convolutional operation, CNN unable to master the interplay between global and distant semantic information. Some researches has employ Vision Transformer as a backbone in remote sensing field. Inspired by these researches, in this paper, we propose a network named Siam-Swin-Unet, which is a Siamesed pure Transformer with U-shape construction for remote sensing image change detection. Swin Transformer is a hierarchical vision transformer with shifted windows that can extract global feature. To learn local and global semantic feature information, the dual-time image are fed into Siam-Swin-Unet which is composed of Swin Transformer, Unet Siamesenet and two feature fusion module. Considered the Unet and Siamesenet are effective for change detection, We applied it to the model. The feature fusion module is designed for fusion of dual-time image features, and is efficient and low-compute confirmed by our experiments. Non-Small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most dangerous cancers, with 85% of all new lung cancer diagnoses and a 30–55% of recurrence rate after surgery. Thus, an accurate prediction of recurrence risk in NSCLC patients during diagnosis could be essential to drive targeted therapies preventing either overtreatment or undertreatment of cancer patients. The radiomic analysis of CT images has already shown great potential in solving this task; specifically, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have already been proposed providing good performances. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViTs) have been introduced, reaching comparable and even better performances than traditional CNNs in image classification. The aim of the proposed paper was to compare the performances of different state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms to predict cancer recurrence in NSCLC patients. In this work, using a public database of 144 patients, we implemented a transfer learning approach, involving different Transformers architectures like pre-trained ViTs, pre-trained Pyramid Vision Transformers, and pre-trained Swin Transformers to predict the recurrence of NSCLC patients from CT images, comparing their performances with state-of-the-art CNNs. Although, the best performances in this study are reached via CNNs with AUC, Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, and Precision equal to 0.91, 0.89, 0.85, 0.90, and 0.78, respectively, Transformer architectures reach comparable ones with AUC, Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, and Precision equal to 0.90, 0.86, 0.81, 0.89, and 0.75, respectively. Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is a well established technique in electron microscopy that yields information on the elemental content of a sample in a very direct manner. One of the persisting limitations of EELS is the requirement for manual identification of core-loss edges and their corresponding elements. This can be especially bothersome in spectrum imaging, where a large amount of spectra are recorded when spatially scanning over a sample area. This paper introduces a synthetic dataset with 736,000 labeled EELS spectra, computed from available generalized oscillator strength tables, that represents 107 K, L, M or N core-loss edges and 80 chemical elements. Generic lifetime broadened peaks are used to mimic the fine structure due to band structure effects present in experimental core-loss edges. The proposed dataset is used to train and evaluate a series of neural network architectures, being a multilayer perceptron, a convolutional neural network, a U-Net, a residual neural network, a vision transformer and a compact convolutional transformer. An ensemble of neural networks is used to further increase performance. The ensemble network is used to demonstrate fully automated elemental mapping in a spectrum image, both by directly mapping the predicted elemental content and by using the predicted content as input for a physical model-based mapping. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a major cause of blindness worldwide. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent vision loss, making accurate and timely diagnosis critical. Deep learning technology has shown promise in the automated diagnosis of DR, and in particular, multi-lesion segmentation tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel Transformer-based model for DR segmentation that incorporates hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module. The proposed model is primarily built on a traditional Vision Transformer encoder and further enhanced by incorporating a spatial prior module for image convolution and feature continuity, followed by feature interaction processing using the spatial feature injector and extractor. Hyperbolic embeddings are used to classify feature matrices from the model at the pixel level. We evaluated the proposed model's performance on the publicly available datasets and compared it with other widely used DR segmentation models. The results show that our model outperforms these widely used DR segmentation models. The incorporation of hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module into the Vision Transformer-based model significantly improves the accuracy of DR segmentation. The hyperbolic embeddings enable us to better capture the underlying geometric structure of the feature matrices, which is important for accurate segmentation. The spatial prior module improves the continuity of the features and helps to better distinguish between lesions and normal tissues. Overall, our proposed model has potential for clinical use in automated DR diagnosis, improving accuracy and speed of diagnosis. Our study shows that the integration of hyperbolic embeddings and a spatial prior module with a Vision Transformer-based model improves the performance of DR segmentation models. The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has tied up significant medical resources, and its management poses a challenge for the public health care decision making. Accurate predictions of the hospitalizations are crucial for the decision makers to make informed decision for the medical resource allocation. This paper proposes a method named County Augmented Transformer (CAT). To generate accurate predictions of four-week-ahead COVID-19 related hospitalizations for every states in the United States. Inspired by the modern deep learning techniques, our method is based on a self-attention model (known as the transformer model) that is actively used in Natural Language Processing. Our transformer based model can capture both short-term and long-term dependencies within the time series while enjoying computational efficiency. Our model is a data based approach that utilizes the publicly available information including the COVID-19 related number of confirmed cases, deaths, hospitalizations data, and the household median income data.
