De-mining operations are of critical importance for humanitarian efforts and safety in conflict-affected regions. In this paper, we address the challenge of enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of mine detection systems. We present an innovative Deep Learning architecture tailored for pulse induction-based Metallic Mine Detectors (MMD), so called DL-MMD. Our methodology leverages deep neural networks to distinguish amongst nine distinct materials with an exceptional validation accuracy of 93.5%. This high level of precision enables us not only to differentiate between anti-personnel mines, without metal plates but also to detect minuscule 0.2-g vertical paper pins in both mineralized soil and non-mineralized environments. Moreover, through comparative analysis, we demonstrate a substantial 3% and 7% improvement (approx.) in accuracy performance compared to the traditional K-Nearest Neighbors and Support Vector Machine classifiers, respectively. The fusion of deep neural networks with the pulse induction-based MMD not only presents a cost-effective solution but also significantly expedites decision-making processes in de-mining operations, ultimately contributing to improved safety and effectiveness in these critical endeavors. Fairness has become a critical value online, and the latest studies consider it in many problems. In recommender systems, fairness is important since the visibility of items is controlled by systems. Previous fairness-aware recommender systems assume that sufficient relationship data between users and items are available. However, it is common that new users and items are frequently introduced, and they have no relationship data yet. In this paper, we study recommendation methods to enhance fairness in a cold-start state. Fairness is more significant when the preference of a user or the popularity of an item is unknown. We propose a meta-learning-based cold-start recommendation framework called FaRM to alleviate the unfairness of recommendations. The proposed framework consists of three steps. We first propose a fairness-aware meta-path generation method to eliminate bias in sensitive attributes. In addition, we construct fairness-aware user representations through the meta-path aggregation approach. Then, we propose a novel fairness objective function and introduce a joint learning method to minimize the trade-off between relevancy and fairness. In extensive experiments with various cold-start scenarios, it is shown that FaRM is significantly superior in fairness performance while preserving relevance accuracy over previous work. The mining of open pit mines is widespread in China, and there are many cases of landslide accidents. Therefore, the problem of slope stability is highlighted. The stability of the slope is a factor that directly affects the mining efficiency and the safety of the entire mining process. According to the statistics, there is a 15 percent chance of finding landslide risk in China's large-scale mines. And due to the expansion of the mining scale of the enterprise, the problem of slope stability has become increasingly obvious, which has become a major subject in the study of open-pit mine engineering. In order to better predict the slope stability coefficient, this study takes a mine in China as a case to deeply discuss the accuracy of different algorithms in the stability calculation, and then uses a deep learning algorithm to study the stability under rainfall conditions. The change of the coefficient and the change of the stability coefficient before and after the slope treatment are experimentally studied with the displacement of the monitoring point. The result shows that the safety coefficient calculated by the algorithm in this paper is about 7% lower than that of the traditional algorithm. In the slope stability analysis before treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.086, and the algorithm in this paper is closer to reality. In the stability analysis of the slope after treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.227, and the stability factor meets the requirements of the specification. Autoregressive language models, which use deep learning to produce human-like texts, have surged in prevalence. Despite advances in these models, concerns arise about their equity across diverse populations. While AI fairness is discussed widely, metrics to measure equity in dialogue systems are lacking. This paper presents a framework, rooted in deliberative democracy and science communication studies, to evaluate equity in human–AI communication. Using it, we conducted an algorithm auditing study to examine how GPT-3 responded to different populations who vary in sociodemographic backgrounds and viewpoints on crucial science and social issues: climate change and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. We analyzed 20,000 dialogues with 3290 participants differing in gender, race, education, and opinions. We found a substantively worse user experience among the opinion minority groups (e.g., climate deniers, racists) and the education minority groups; however, these groups changed attitudes toward supporting BLM and climate change efforts much more compared to other social groups after the chat. GPT-3 used more negative expressions when responding to the education and opinion minority groups. Infectious keratitis (IK) is a major cause of corneal opacity. IK can be caused by a variety of microorganisms. Typically, fungal ulcers carry the worst prognosis. Fungal cases can be subdivided into filamentous and yeasts, which shows fundamental differences. Delays in diagnosis or initiation of treatment increase the risk of ocular complications. Currently, the diagnosis of IK is mainly based on slit-lamp examination and corneal scrapings. Notably, these diagnostic methods have their drawbacks, including experience-dependency, tissue damage, and time consumption. Artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to mimic and enhance human decision-making. An increasing number of studies have utilized AI in the diagnosis of IK. In this paper, we propose to use AI to diagnose IK (model 1), differentiate between bacterial keratitis and fungal keratitis (model 2), and discriminate the filamentous type from the yeast type of fungal cases (model 3). Overall, 9329 slit-lamp photographs gathered from 977 patients were enrolled in the study. The models exhibited remarkable accuracy, with model 1 achieving 99.3%, model 2 at 84%, and model 3 reaching 77.5%. Bats are a crucial component within ecosystems, providing valuable ecosystem services such as pollination and pest control. In practical conservation efforts, the classification and identification of bats are essential in order to develop effective conservation management programs for bats and their habitats. Traditionally, the identification of bats has been a manual and time-consuming process. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the accuracy and speed of identification work of such fine-grained images as bats identification can be greatly improved. Bats identification relies on the fine features of their beaks and faces, so mining the fine-grained information in images is crucial to improve the accuracy of bats identification. This paper presents a deep learning-based model designed for the rapid and precise identification of common horseshoe bats (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae: Rhinolophus) from Southern China. The model was developed by utilizing a comprehensive dataset of 883 high-resolution images of seven distinct Rhinolophus species which were collected during surveys conducted between 2010 and 2022. An improved EfficientNet model with an attention mechanism module is architected to mine the fine-grained appearance of these Rhinolophus. The performance of the model beat other classical models, including SqueezeNet, AlexNet, VGG16_BN, ShuffleNetV2, GoogleNet, ResNet50 and EfficientNet_B0, according to the predicting precision, recall, accuracy, F1-score. Our model achieved the highest identification accuracy of 94.22% and an F1-score of 0.948 with low computational complexity. Heat maps obtained with Grad-CAM show that our model meets the identification criteria of the morphology of Rhinolophus. In the field of machine intelligence and ubiquitous computing, there has been a growing interest in human activity recognition using wearable sensors. Over the past few decades, researchers have extensively explored learning-based methods to develop effective models for identifying human behaviors. Deep learning algorithms, known for their powerful feature extraction capabilities, have played a prominent role in this area. These algorithms can conveniently extract features that enable excellent recognition performance. However, many successful deep learning approaches have been built upon complex models with multiple hyperparameters. This paper examines the current research on human activity recognition using deep learning techniques and discusses appropriate recognition strategies. Initially, we employed multiple convolutional neural networks to determine an effective architecture for human activity recognition. Subsequently, we developed a hybrid convolutional neural network that incorporates a channel attention mechanism. This mechanism enables the network to capture deep spatio-temporal characteristics in a hierarchical manner and distinguish between different human movements in everyday life. Our investigations, using the UCI-HAR, WISDM, and IM-WSHA datasets, demonstrated that our proposed model, which includes cross-channel multi-size convolution transformations, outperformed previous deep learning architectures with accuracy rates of 98.92%, 98.80%, and 98.45% respectively. Infectious keratitis refers to a group of corneal disorders in which corneal tissues suffer inflammation and damage caused by pathogenic infections. Among these disorders, fungal keratitis (FK) and acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) are particularly severe and can cause permanent blindness if not diagnosed early and accurately. In Vivo Confocal Microscopy (IVCM) allows for imaging of different corneal layers and provides an important tool for an early and accurate diagnosis. In this paper, we introduce the IVCM-Keratitis dataset, which comprises of a total of 4001 sample images of AK and FK, as well as non-specific keratitis (NSK) and healthy corneas classes. We use this dataset to develop multiple deep-learning models based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to provide automated assistance in enhancing the diagnostic accuracy of confocal microscopy in infectious keratitis. Densenet161 had the best performance among these models, with an accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score of 93.55%, 92.52%, 94.77%, and 96.93%, respectively. Our study highlights the potential of deep learning models to provide automated diagnostic assistance for infectious keratitis via confocal microscopy images, particularly in the early detection of AK and FK. The proposed model can provide valuable support to both experienced and inexperienced eye-care practitioners in confocal microscopy image analysis, by suggesting the most likely diagnosis. We further demonstrate that these models can highlight the areas of infection in the IVCM images and explain the reasons behind their diagnosis by utilizing saliency maps, a technique used in eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to interpret these models. The ubiquity of social media and their deep integration in the contemporary society has granted new ways to interact, exchange information, form groups, or earn money—all on a scale never seen before. Those possibilities paired with the widespread popularity contribute to the level of impact that social media display. Unfortunately, the benefits brought by them come at a cost. Social Media can be employed by various entities to spread disinformation—so called 'Fake News', either to make a profit or influence the behaviour of the society. To reduce the impact and spread of Fake News, a diverse array of countermeasures were devised. These include linguistic-based approaches, which often utilise Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning (DL). However, as the latest advancements in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) domain show, the model's high performance is no longer enough. The explainability of the system's decision is equally crucial in real-life scenarios. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to present a novel explainability approach in BERT-based fake news detectors. This approach does not require extensive changes to the system and can be attached as an extension for operating detectors. For this purposes, two Explainable Artificial Intelligence (xAI) techniques, Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) and Anchors, will be used and evaluated on fake news data, i.e., short pieces of text forming tweets or headlines. Space information networks is network systems that can receive, transmit, and process spatial information lively. It uses satellites, stratosphere airships, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and other platforms as the carrier. It supports high-dynamic, real-time broadband transmission of earth observations and ultra-long-distance, long-delay reliable transmission of deep space exploration. The deeper the network integration, the higher the system's security concerns and the more likely SINs will be controlled and destroyed in terms of cybersecurity. How to integrate new IT technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and blockchain to diverse application scenarios of SINs while maintaining SIN cybersecurity will be a long-term critical technical issue. This study is a review of the security issues for space information networks. First, this paper examines space information networks' security issues and figures out the relationship between the main security threats, services, and mechanisms. Then, this article selects secure routing and anomaly detection from many security technologies to conduct a detailed overview from two perspectives of traditional methods and artificial intelligence. Subsequently, this paper investigates anomaly detection schemes for spatial information networks and proposes a deep learning-based anomaly detection scheme. Finally, we suggest the potential research directions and opening problems of space information network security. Overall, this paper aims to give readers an overview of the newly emerging technologies in space information networks' security issues and provide inspiration for future exploration. Federated learning(FL) is a new kind of Artificial Intelligence(AI) aimed at data privacy preservation that builds on decentralizing the training data for the deep learning model. This new technique of data security and privacy sheds light on many critical domains with highly sensitive data, including medical image analysis. Developing a strong, scalable, and precise deep learning model has proven to count on a variety of high-quality data from different centers. However, data holders may not willing to share their data considering the restriction of privacy. In this paper, we approach this challenge with a federated learning paradigm. Specifically, we present a case study on the whole slide image classification problem. At each local client center, a multiple-instance learning classifier is developed to conduct whole slide image classification. We introduce a privacy-preserving federated learning framework based on hyper-network to update the global model. Hyper-network is deployed at the global center that produces the weights of the local network conditioned on its input. In this way, hyper-networks can simultaneously learn a family of the local client networks. Instead of communicating raw data with the local client, only model parameters injected with noise are transferred between the local client and the global model. By using a large scale of whole slide images with only slide-level labels, we mensurated our way on two different whole slide image classification problems. The results demonstrate that our proposed federated learning model based on hyper-network can effectively leverage multi-center data to develop a more accurate model which can be used to classify a whole slide image. Recent decades have witnessed the growing importance of human motion detection systems based on artificial intelligence (AI). The growing interest in human motion detection systems is the advantages of automation in the monitoring of patients remotely and giving warnings to doctors promptly. Currently, wearable devices are frequently used for human motion detection systems. However, such devices have several limitations, such as the elderly not wearing devices due to lack of comfort or forgetfulness and/or battery limitations. To overcome the problems of wearable devices, we propose an AI-driven human motion detection system (deep learning-based system) using channel state information (CSI) extracted from Radio Frequency (RF) signals. The main contribution of this paper is to improve the performance of the deep learning models through techniques, including structure modification and dimension reduction of the original data. In this work, We firstly collected the CSI data with the center frequency 5.32 GHz and implemented the structure of the basic deep learning network in our previous work. After that, we changed the basic deep learning network by increasing the depth, increasing the width, adapting some advanced network structures, and reducing dimensions. After finishing those modifications, we observed the results and analyzed how to further improve the deep learning performance of this contactless AI-enabled human motion detection system. As the demand for health grows, the increase in medical waste generation is gradually outstripping the load. In this paper, we propose a deep learning approach for identification and classification of medical waste. Deep learning is currently the most popular technique in image classification, but its need for large amounts of data limits its usage. In this scenario, we propose a deep learning-based classification method, in which ResNeXt is a suitable deep neural network for practical implementation, followed by transfer learning methods to improve classification results. We pay special attention to the problem of medical waste classification, which needs to be solved urgently in the current environmental protection context. We applied the technique to 3480 images and succeeded in correctly identifying 8 kinds of medical waste with an accuracy of 97.2%; the average F1-score of five-fold cross-validation was 97.2%. This study provided a deep learning-based method for automatic detection and classification of 8 kinds of medical waste with high accuracy and average precision. We believe that the power of artificial intelligence could be harnessed in products that would facilitate medical waste classification and could become widely available throughout China. The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence methods in healthcare is coupled with the critical need for techniques to rigorously introspect models and thereby ensure that they behave reliably. This has led to the design of explainable AI techniques that uncover the relationships between discernible data signatures and model predictions. In this context, counterfactual explanations that synthesize small, interpretable changes to a given query while producing desired changes in model predictions have become popular. This under-constrained, inverse problem is vulnerable to introducing irrelevant feature manipulations, particularly when the model's predictions are not well-calibrated. Hence, in this paper, we propose the TraCE (training calibration-based explainers) technique, which utilizes a novel uncertainty-based interval calibration strategy for reliably synthesizing counterfactuals. Given the wide-spread adoption of machine-learned solutions in radiology, our study focuses on deep models used for identifying anomalies in chest X-ray images. Using rigorous empirical studies, we demonstrate the superiority of TraCE explanations over several state-of-the-art baseline approaches, in terms of several widely adopted evaluation metrics. Our findings show that TraCE can be used to obtain a holistic understanding of deep models by enabling progressive exploration of decision boundaries, to detect shortcuts, and to infer relationships between patient attributes and disease severity.
