Forest biomass estimation is undoubtedly one of the most pressing research subjects at present. Combining multi-source remote sensing information can give full play to the advantages of different remote sensing technologies, providing more comprehensive and rich information for aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation research. Based on Landsat 8, Sentinel-2A, and ALOS2 PALSAR data, this paper takes the artificial coniferous forests in the Saihanba Forest of Hebei Province as the object of study, fully explores and establishes remote sensing factors and information related to forest structure, gives full play to the advantages of spectral signals in detecting the horizontal structure and multi-dimensional synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data in detecting the vertical structure, and combines environmental factors to carry out multivariate synergistic methods of estimating the AGB. This paper uses three variable selection methods (Pearson correlation coefficient, random forest significance, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)) to establish the variable sets, combining them with three typical non-parametric models to estimate AGB, namely, random forest (RF), support vector regression (SVR), and artificial neural network (ANN), to analyze the effect of forest structure on biomass estimation, explore the suitable AGB of artificial coniferous forests estimation of machine learning models, and develop the method of quantifying saturation value of the combined variables. The results show that the horizontal structure is more capable of explaining the AGB compared to the vertical structure information, and that combining the multi-structure information can improve the model results and the saturation value to a great extent. In this study, different sets of variables can produce relatively superior results in different models. The variable set selected using LASSO gives the best results in the SVR model, with an R 2 values of 0.9998 and 0.8792 for the training and the test set, respectively, and the highest saturation value obtained is 185.73 t/ha, which is beyond the range of the measured data. The problem of saturation in biomass estimation in boreal medium- and high-density forests was overcome to a certain extent, and the AGB of the Saihanba area was better estimated. This paper considers extinction coefficient changes with height caused by the inhomogeneous distribution of scatterers in heterogeneous forests and uses the InSAR phase center height histogram and Gaussian function to fit the normalized extinction coefficient curve so as to reflect the vertical structure of the heterogeneous forest. Combining polarization decomposition based on the physical model and the PolInSAR parameter inversion method, the ground and volume coherence matrices can be separated based on the polarization characteristics and interference coherence diversity. By combining the new abovementioned parameters, the semi-empirical improved RVoG inversion model can be used to both quantify the effects of temporal decorrelation on coherence and phase errors and avoid the effects of small vertical wavenumbers on the large temporal baseline of spaceborne data. The model provided robust inversion for the height of the coniferous forest and enhanced the parameter estimation of the forest structure. This study addressed the influence of vertical structure differences on the extinction coefficient, though the coherence of the ground and volume in sparse vegetation areas could not be accurately estimated, and the oversensitivity of temporal decorrelation caused by inappropriate vertical wavenumbers. According to this method we used spaceborne L-band ALOS-2 PALSAR data on the Saihanba forest in Hebei Province acquired in 2020 for the purpose of height inversion, with a temporal baseline range of 14–70 days and the vertical wavenumber range of 0.01–0.03 rad/m. In terrestrial ecosystems, vegetation is sensitive to climate change and human activities. Its spatial-temporal changes also affect the ecological and social environment. In this paper, we considered the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region to study the spatio-temporal vegetation patterns. The detailed analysis of a moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data were carried out through the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. Our results show a slow and tortuous upward trend in the average leaf area index (LAI) in the study region for the periods 2001–2020. Specifically, Beijing had the highest LAI value, with an average of 1.64 over twenty years, followed by Hebei (1.30) and Tianjin (1.04). Among different vegetation types, forests had the highest normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) with the range of 0.62–0.78, followed by shrubland (0.58–0.75), grassland (0.34–0.66), and cropland (0.38–0.54) over the years. Spatially, compared to the whole study area, index value in the northwestern part of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region increased greatly in many areas, such as northwest Beijing, Chengde, and Zhangjiakou, indicating a significant ecological optimization. Meanwhile, there was ecological degradation in the middle and southeast regions, from Tangshan southeastward to Handan, crossing Tianjin, Langfang, the east part of Baoding, Shijiazhuang, and the west part of Cangzhou. Air temperature and precipitation were positively and significantly correlated with net primary production (NPP) and precipitation stood out as a key driver. Additionally, an intensification of the urbanization rate will negatively impact the vegetation NPP, with the shrubland and forest being affected most relative to the cropland. Dynamic predictions of surface subsidence are crucial for assessing ground damage and protecting surface buildings. Based on Small Baseline Subset Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) technology, a method for making dynamic predictions of large-scale surface subsidence in mining areas can be established; however, the problem of phase coherence loss in InSAR data makes it impossible to predict the complete dynamic subsidence basin. In this study, a method combining the WeiBull time function and the improved probabilistic integral method (IPIM) model was established based on the PIM model, and a method for predicting the dynamic subsidence basin in the mining area was proposed by integrating the IPIM and the combined WeiBull time function. Time-series subsidence data, obtained using SBAS-InSAR, were used as fitting data, and the parameters of the combined WeiBull function were inverted, pixel by pixel, to predict the dynamic subsidence of the working face in the study area. Based on the predicted surface subsidence results of a certain moment in the working face, the parameters of the IPIM model were inverted to predict the subsidence value in the incoherent region. The subsidence predictions of the combined WeiBull time function and the IPIM model were fused using inverse distance weighting (IDW) interpolation to restore the complete subsidence basin in the mining area. This method was tested at the Wannian Mine in Hebei, and the obtained complete subsidence basin was compared with the measured data, with an absolute error range of 0 to 10 mm. The results show that the dynamic subsidence basin prediction method for the SBAS-InSAR mining area, involving the combination of the IPIM model and the combined WeiBull model, can not only accurately fit the time series of surface observation points affected by mining but also accurately restore the subsidence data in the incoherent region to obtain complete subsidence basin information in the mining area. Modeling forest structure using multi-source satellite data is beneficial to understanding the relationship between vertical and horizontal structure and image features to provide more comprehensive and abundant information for the study of forest structural complexity. This study investigates and models forest structure as a multivariate structure based on sample data and active-passive remote sensing data (Landsat8, Sentinel-2A, and ALOS-2 PALSAR) from the Saihanba Forest in Hebei Province, Northern China, to measure forest structural complexity, relying on a relationship-driven model between field and satellite data. In this study, we considered the effects of the role of satellite variables in different vertical structure types and horizontal structure ranges, used two methods to stepwise select significant variables (stepwise forward selection and Pearson correlation coefficient), and employed a multivariate modeling technique (redundancy analysis) to derive a forest composite structure index (FSI), combining both horizontal and vertical structure attributes. The results show that optical texture can better represent forest structure characteristics, polarization interferometric radar information can represent the vertical structure information of forests, and combining the two can represent 77% of the variance of multiple forest structural attributes. The new FSI can explain 93% of the relationship between stand structure and satellite variables, and the linear fit R2 to the measured data reaches 0.91, which largely shows the situation of the measured data. The generated forest structure map more accurately reflects the complexity of the forest structure in the Saihanba Forest, achieving a supplementary explanation of the measured data. Accurate and complete digital elevation models (DEMs) play an important fundamental role in geospatial analysis, supporting various engineering applications, human activities, and scientific research. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) plays an increasingly important role in DEM generation. Nonetheless, owing to its inherent characteristics, gaps often appear in regions marked by significant topographical fluctuations, necessitating an extra void-filling process. Traditional void-filling methods have operated directly on preexisting data, succeeding in relatively flat terrain. When facing mountainous regions, there will always be gross errors in elevation values. Regrettably, conventional methods have often disregarded this vital consideration. To this end, this research proposes a DEM void-filling method based on incorporating elevation outlier detection. It accounts for the detection and removal of elevation outliers, thereby mitigating the shortcomings of existing methods and ensuring robust DEM restoration in mountainous terrains. Experiments were conducted to validate the method applicability using TanDEM-X data from Sichuan, China, Hebei, China, and Oregon, America. The results underscore the superiority of the proposed method. Three traditional methods are selected for comparison. The proposed method has different degrees of improvement in filling accuracy, depending on the void status of the local terrain. Compared with the delta surface fill (DSF) method, the root mean squared error (RMSE) of the filling results has improved by 7.87% to 51.87%. Climate change has resulted in an increase in extreme rainstorm events, posing the challenges of urban waterlogging and runoff pollution. Low Impact Development (LID) is widely used to address the issues above, but its effectiveness is unknown in mountainous areas. Due to a flash flood and high flood peak, storage pumping stations are also needed to drain. Thus, a framework composed of storage pumping stations and Low Impact Developments (LIDs) was proposed based on the topography and the regional upstream and downstream relationships. The water quantity in this framework is applied to YI County in Hebei Province, China. The results showed that individual LIDs effectively reduced runoff volume, with the implementation area being more crucial than the location. Combining storage pumping stations with LIDs significantly reduces peak outflow and delays it by 5 to 51 min. The combined downstream implementation of storage pumping stations and LIDs yielded the most effective results. High-resolution leaf area index (LAI) maps from remote sensing data largely depend on empirical models, which link field LAI measurements to the vegetation index. The existing empirical methods often require the field measurements to be sufficient for constructing a reliable model. However, in many regions of the world, there are limited field measurements available. This paper presents a prior knowledge-based (PKB) method to derivate LAI with limited field measurements, in an effort to improve the accuracy of empirical model. Based on the assumption that the experimental sites with the same vegetation type can be represented by similar models, a priori knowledge for crops was extracted from the published models in various cropland sites. The knowledge, composed of an initial guess of each model parameter with the associated uncertainty, was then combined with the local field measurements to determine a semi-empirical model using the Bayesian inversion method. The proposed method was evaluated at a cropland site in the Huailai region of Hebei Province, China. Compared with the regression method, the proposed PKB method can effectively improve the accuracy of empirical model and LAI estimation, when the field measurements were limited. The results demonstrate that a priori knowledge extracted from the universal sites can provide important auxiliary information to improve the representativeness of the empirical model in a given study area. The southern part of the Hebei Province is one of China's major crop-producing regions. Due to the continuous decline in groundwater level, agricultural water use is facing significant challenges. Precision agricultural irrigation management is undoubtedly an effective way to solve this problem. Based on multisource data (time series soil moisture active passive (SMAP) data, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and evapotranspiration (ET), and meteorological station precipitation), the irrigation signal (frequency, timing and area) is detected in the southern part of the Hebei Province. The SMAP data was processed by the 5-point moving average method to reduce the error caused by the uncertainty of the microwave data derived SM. Irrigation signals can be detected by removing the precipitation effect and setting the SM change threshold. Based on the validation results, the overall accuracy of the irrigation signal detection is 77.08%. Simultaneously, considering the spatial resolution limitation of SMAP pixels, the SMAP irrigation area was downscaled using the winter wheat area extracted from MODIS NDVI. The analytical results of 55 winter wheat samples (5 samples in a group) showed that winter wheat covered by one SMAP pixel had an 82.72% growth consistency in surface water irrigation period, which can indicate a downscaling effectiveness. According to the above statistical analysis, this paper considers that although the spatial resolution of SMAP data is insufficient, it can reflect the change of SM more sensitively. In areas where the crop pattern is relatively uniform, the introduction of high-resolution crop pattern distribution can be used not only to detect irrigation signals but also to validate the effectiveness of irrigation signal detection by analyzing crop growth consistency. Frequent mining activities create a series of geological and environmental problems resulting in an immeasurable loss of life and property. Adopting effective technologies that monitor the surface subsidence of mining areas reliably and accurately is necessary. Targeting problems associated with conventional distributed scatterers interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DS-InSAR) technology, we propose a DS-InSAR technology integrating unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry products divided into two key technical contents: generating an external reference digital elevation model (DEM) fused with UAV DEM and refining distributed scatterers candidates (DSCs) fused with an UAV digital orthophoto map (DOM). We selected two mining areas, one in Wu'an, Hebei, and the other in Inner Mongolia, with different surface cover types, mining depths, and topographies as the research area. We used Sentinel-1A SAR images covering a mine in Wu'an from 4 November 2018 to 4 March 2019 and a mining area in Inner Mongolia from 11 June 2018 to 21 October 2018 to compare and analyze the subsidence results. We also combined these results with data from their respective field observation stations to assess accuracy. We could apply DS-InSAR technology integrated with UAV photogrammetry products to the subsidence monitoring of two mining areas with different landforms and mining characteristics. Comparing with the leveling and total station, the experimental results show that the RMSE was reduced by about 2 mm in both mining areas, and accuracy for the Wu'an region improved to a higher degree than Inner Mongolia did. Furthermore, the refinement method of DS eliminated 965 and 2948 lower-quality DSCs in the two mining areas. Satellite-derived aerosol optical depth (AOD) has been extensively utilized for retrieving ground-level PM2.5 distributions. However, the presence of non-random missing data gaps in AOD poses a challenge to directly obtaining the gap-free AOD-derived PM2.5, thereby impeding accurate exposure risk assessment. Here, this study presents a novel and flexible framework that couples stacking and flexible spatiotemporal data fusion (FSDAF) approaches. By integrating multiple models and data sources, this framework aims to generate hourly (24-h) gap-free PM2.5 estimates for the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region in 2018. This study effectively reconstructed data at least three times more effectively than the original AOD-derived PM2.5, achieving the Pearson coefficient (r), the coefficient determination (R2), root mean squared error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) values of 0.91, 0.84, 19.38 µg/m3, and 12.17 µg/m3, respectively, based on entire samples. Such strong predictive performance was also exhibited in spatial-based (r: 0.92–0.93, R2: 0.85–0.87, RMSE: 18.13 µg/m3–20.18 µg/m3, and MAE: 11.21 µg/m3–12.52 µg/m3) and temporal-based (r: 0.91–0.98, R2: 0.82–0.96, RMSE: 3.8 µg/m3–21.89 µg/m3, and MAE: 2.71 µg/m3–14.00 µg/m3) validations, indicating the robustness of this framework. Additionally, this framework enables the assessment of annual and seasonal PM2.5 concentrations and distributions, revealing that higher levels are experienced in the southern region, while lower levels prevail in the northern part. Winter exhibits the most severe levels, followed by spring and autumn, with comparatively lower levels in summer. Notably, the proposed framework effectively mitigates bias in calculating population-weighted exposure risk by filling data gaps with calculated values of 51.04 µg/m3, 54.17 µg/m3, 56.24 µg/m3, and 55.00 µg/m3 in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and the BTH region, respectively. The aeromagnetic survey is a common remote sensing tool for detecting iron deposits. The local wavenumber of a magnetic anomaly is used to interpret the edges or positions of the sources, and can involve first- or second-order local wavenumbers. In this paper, we derived a linear equation between the second-order local wavenumber and the source location; therefore, we propose a constraint of first and second-order local wavenumbers. Tests on synthetic data show that the source parameters, computed using a combination of equations that involved different-order local wavenumbers, are closer to the true values and show a smaller spread in estimated values. For gridded data, we proved that the different-order combination allowed us to accurately estimate the source position. When applied to the aeromagnetic data from Hebei province, China, we refined the location of most magnetic features, which we interpreted as possible iron deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Global climate change and rapid urbanization have caused increases in urban floods. Urban flood risk assessment is a vital method for preventing and controlling such disasters. This paper takes the central region of Cangzhou city in Hebei Province as an example. Detailed topographical information, such as the buildings and roads in the study area, was extracted from GF-2 data. By coupling the two models, the SWMM and MIKE21, the spatial distribution of the inundation region, and the water depth in the study area under different return periods, were simulated in detail. The results showed that, for the different return periods, the inundation region was generally consistent. However, there was a large increase in the mean inundation depth within a 10-to-30-year return period, and the increase in the maximum inundation depth and inundation area remained steady. The comprehensive runoff coefficient in all of the scenarios exceeded 0.8, indicating that the drainage system in the study area is insufficient and has a higher flood risk. The flood risk of the study area was evaluated based on the damage curve, which was obtained from field investigations. The results demonstrate that the loss per unit area was less than CNY 250/m2 in each return period in the majority of the damaged areas. Additionally, the total loss was mainly influenced by the damaged area, but, in commercial areas, the total loss was highly sensitive to the inundation depth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) has been suffering from severe groundwater storage (GWS) consumption and land subsidence (LS) for a long period. The overexploitation of groundwater brings about severe land subsidence, which affects the safety and development of BTH. In this paper, we utilized multi-frame synthetic aperture radar datasets obtained by the Rardarsat-2 satellite to monitor land subsidence's temporal and spatial distribution in the BTH from 2012 to 2016 based on multi-temporal interferometric synthetic aperture radar (MT-InSAR). In addition, we also employed the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mascon datasets acquired by the Center for Space Research (CSR) and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to obtain the GWS anomalies (GWSA) of BTH from 2003 to 2016. Then we evaluate the accuracy of the results obtained. Furthermore, we explored the relationship between the regional GWSA and the average cumulative subsidence in the BTH. The total volume change of subsidence is 59.46% of the total volume change of groundwater storage. Moreover, the long-term decreasing trend of the GWSA (14.221 mm/year) and average cumulative subsidence (17.382 mm/year) show a relatively high consistency. Finally, we analyze the heterogeneity of GWS change (GWSC) and LS change (LSC) in the four typical areas by the Lorenz curve model. The implementation of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project (MSWDP) affects the heterogeneity of GWSC and LSC. It can be seen that the largest heterogeneity of LSC lags behind the GWSC in the Tianjin-Langfang-Hengshui-Baoding area. The largest uneven subsidence in Beijing and Tianjin occurred in 2015, and the largest uneven subsidence in Hengshui-Baoding occurred in 2014. ZY-1 02D is China's first civil hyperspectral (HS) operational satellite, developed independently and successfully launched in 2019. It can collect HS data with a spatial resolution of 30 m, 166 spectral bands, a spectral range of 400~2500 nm, and a swath width of 60 km. Its competitive advantages over other on-orbit or planned satellites are its high spectral resolution and large swath width. Unfortunately, the relatively low spatial resolution may limit its applications. As a result, fusing ZY-1 02D HS data with high-spatial-resolution multispectral (MS) data is required to improve spatial resolution while maintaining spectral fidelity. This paper conducted a comprehensive evaluation study on the fusion of ZY-1 02D HS data with ZY-1 02D MS data (10-m spatial resolution), based on visual interpretation and quantitative metrics. Datasets from Hebei, China, were used in this experiment, and the performances of six common data fusion methods, namely Gram-Schmidt (GS), High Pass Filter (HPF), Nearest-Neighbor Diffusion (NND), Modified Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS), Wavelet Transform (Wavelet), and Color Normalized Sharping (Brovey), were compared. The experimental results show that: (1) HPF and GS methods are better suited for the fusion of ZY-1 02D HS Data and MS Data, (2) IHS and Brovey methods can well improve the spatial resolution of ZY-1 02D HS data but introduce spectral distortion, and (3) Wavelet and NND results have high spectral fidelity but poor spatial detail representation. Accurate determination of phenological information of crops is essential for field management and decision-making. Remote sensing time-series data are widely used for extracting phenological phases. Existing methods mainly extract phenological phases directly from individual remote sensing time-series, which are easily affected by clouds, noise, and mixed pixels. This paper proposes a novel method of phenological phase extraction based on the time-weighted dynamic time warping (TWDTW) algorithm using MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) 5-day time-series data with a spatial resolution of 500 m. Firstly, based on the phenological differences between winter wheat and other land cover types, winter wheat distribution is extracted using the TWDTW classification method, and the results show that the overall classification accuracy and Kappa coefficient reach 94.74% and 0.90, respectively. Then, we extract the pure winter-wheat pixels using a method based on the coefficient of variation, and use these pixels to generate the average phenological curve. Next, the difference between each winter-wheat phenological curve and the average winter-wheat phenological curve is quantitatively calculated using the TWDTW algorithm. Finally, the key phenological phases of winter wheat in the study area, namely, the green-up date (GUD), heading date (HD), and maturity date (MD), are determined. The results show that the phenological phase extraction using the TWDTW algorithm has high accuracy. By verification using phenological station data from the Meteorological Data Sharing Service System of China, the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the GUD, HD, and MD are found to be 9.76, 5.72, and 6.98 days, respectively. Additionally, the method proposed in this article is shown to have a better extraction performance compared with several other methods. Furthermore, it is shown that, in Hebei Province, the GUD, HD, and MD are mainly affected by latitude and accumulated temperature. As the latitude increases from south to north, the GUD, HD, and MD are delayed, and for each 1° increment in latitude, the GUD, HD, and MD are delayed by 4.84, 5.79, and 6.61 days, respectively. The higher the accumulated temperature, the earlier the phenological phases occur. However, latitude and accumulated temperature have little effect on the length of the phenological phases. Additionally, the lengths of time between GUD and HD, HD and MD, and GUD and MD are stable at 46, 41, and 87 days, respectively. Overall, the proposed TWDTW method can accurately determine the key phenological phases of winter wheat at a regional scale using remote sensing time-series data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The understanding of the macro- and micro-structure, particle spectrum parameters, and their evolutions in different parts of stratocumulus clouds based on aircraft observation data, is important basic data for the development of cloud microphysical parameterization schemes and the quantitative retrieval of cloud-precipitation by radar and satellite detections. In this study, a total of ten vertical measurements during three aircraft observations were selected to analyze the vertical distribution of cloud microphysical properties in different parts of stratocumulus clouds in Hebei, North China. It was found that the downdraft in the cumulus cloud area was stronger than that in the stratiform cloud area, with the temperature at the same height higher than that in the stratiform cloud area, and the height of the 0 °C layers was correspondingly higher. In terms of particle spectrum parameters, the intercept and slope parameters of particle spectrum below melting levels in the cumulus part were higher than those in stratiform clouds area in the same weather process. In different vertical detection, it was found that the ice particles have begun to melt in the negative temperature layer near 0 °C level, and there might be sublimation, fragmentation, and aggregation in the melting process of ice phase particles. In addition, the melting process changed the spectral parameters greatly and also changed the correlation between the intercept and slope of the particle spectrum. The slope below the 0 °C level increased with the increase of intercept, which was greater than that above the 0 °C level. The relationship obtained between the intercept parameter of the particle's spectrum and temperature, and the correlation between the maximum diameter and slope parameter of the particle spectrum, have certain reference significance for cloud physical parameterization and the quantitative retrieval of cloud precipitation by radar and satellite in North China and similar climate background areas. Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE)-derived groundwater storage anomalies (GWSA) have been used to highlight groundwater depletion in regional aquifer systems worldwide. However, the use of GRACE products in smaller areas is limited owing to the coarse spatial resolution of the data product. This study utilized a dynamic downscaling method to improve the GWSA resolution from 1° to 0.05° by constructing a groundwater storage numerical model in the Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei regions of China (BTH). The results indicate that: (1) the GRACE-derived and calculated GWSA had a good match with an average root mean squared error (RMSE) of 2.61 cm equivalent water height (EWH) and an average Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE) of 0.84 for the calibration period. (2) The hydraulic gradient coefficient and specific yield had the highest sensitivity, and transmissivity had the lowest sensitivity; however, different forcing data had no obvious influence on the GWSA. (3) The downscaled results not only exhibited time series variations that were consistent with those of the GRACE-derived solutions but also revealed a finer spatial heterogeneity of the GWSA along with increasing correlation coefficients between the GRACE-derived GWSA and the in situ measurements of groundwater levels by 0.06 and reducing the RMSE by 8.85%. (4) The downscaled results reflected the spatiotemporal change characteristics of groundwater storage in different hydrogeological units and administrative regions well. The data assimilation technique is an effective method for reducing initial condition errors in numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. This paper evaluated the potential of the weather research and forecasting (WRF) model and its three-dimensional data assimilation (3DVar) module in improving the accuracy of rainfall-runoff prediction through coupled atmospheric-hydrologic systems. The WRF model with the assimilation of radar reflectivity and conventional surface and upper-air observations provided the improved initial and boundary conditions for the hydrological process; subsequently, three atmospheric-hydrological systems with variable complexity were established by coupling WRF with a lumped, a grid-based Hebei model, and the WRF-Hydro modeling system. Four storm events with different spatial and temporal rainfall distribution from mountainous catchments of northern China were chosen as the study objects. The assimilation results showed a general improvement in the accuracy of rainfall accumulation, with low root mean square error and high correlation coefficients compared to the results without assimilation. The coupled atmospheric-hydrologic systems also provide more accurate flood forecasts, which depend upon the complexity of the coupled hydrological models. The grid-based Hebei system provided the most stable forecasts regardless of whether homogeneous or inhomogeneous rainfall was considered. Flood peaks before assimilation were underestimated more in the lumped Hebei model relative to the other coupling systems considered, and the model seems more applicable for homogeneous temporal and spatial events. WRF-Hydro did not exhibit desirable predictions of rapid flood process recession. This may reflect increasing infiltration due to the interaction of atmospheric and land surface hydrology at each integration, resulting in mismatched solutions for local runoff generation and confluence. The ecological redline defines areas where industrialization and urbanization development should be prohibited. Its purpose is to establish the most stringent environmental protection system to meet the urgent needs of ecological function guarantee and environmental safety. Nowadays, deep learning methods have been widely used in change detection tasks based on remote sensing images, which can just be applied to the monitoring of the ecological redline. Considering the convolution-based neural networks' lack of utilization of global information, we choose a transformer to devise a Siamese network for change detection. We also use a transformer to design a pyramid pooling module to help the network maintain more features. Moreover, we construct a self-supervised network based on a contrastive method to obtain a pre-trained model, especially for remote sensing images, aiming to achieve better results. As for study areas and data sources, we chose Hebei Province, where the environmental problem is quite nervous, and used its GF-1 satellite images to do our research. Through ablation experiments and contrast experiments, our method is proven to have significant advantages in terms of accuracy and efficiency. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented disruptions to human society worldwide since late 2019, and lockdown policies in response to the pandemic have directly and drastically decreased human socioeconomic activities. To quantify and assess the extent of the pandemic's impact on the economy of Hebei Province, China, nighttime light (NTL) data, vegetation information, and provincial quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) data were jointly utilized to estimate the quarterly GDP for prefecture-level cities and county-level cities. Next, an autoregressive integrated moving average model (ARIMA) model was applied to predict the quarterly GDP for 2020 and 2021. Finally, economic recovery intensity (ERI) was used to assess the extent of economic recovery in Hebei Province during the pandemic. The results show that, at the provincial level, the economy of Hebei Province had not yet recovered; at the prefectural and county levels, three prefectures and forty counties were still struggling to restore their economies by the end of 2021, even though these economies, as a whole, were gradually recovering. In addition, the number of new infected cases correlated positively with the urban NTL during the pandemic period, but not during the post-pandemic period. The long-term overexploitation of groundwater leads to serious land subsidence and threatens the safety of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH). In this paper, an interferometric point target analysis (IPTA) with small baseline subset InSAR (SBAS-InSAR) technique was used to derive the land subsidence in a typical BTH area from 2012 to 2018 with 126 Radarsat-2 and 184 Sentinel-1 images. The analysis reveals that the average subsidence rate reached 118 mm/year from 2012 to 2018. Eleven subsidence features were identified: Shangzhuang, Beijing Airport, Jinzhan and Heizhuanghu in Beijing, Guangyang and Shengfang in Langfang, Wangqingtuo in Tianjin, Dongguang in Cangzhou, Jingxian and Zaoqiang in Hengshui and Julu in Xingtai. Comparing the different types of land use in subsidence feature areas, the results show that when the land-use type is relatively more complex and superimposed with residential, industrial and agricultural land, the land subsidence is relatively more significant. Moreover, the land subsidence development patterns are different in the BTH areas because of the different methods adopted for their water resource development and utilization, with an imbalance in their economic development levels. Finally, we found that the subsidence changes are consistent with groundwater level changes and there is a lag period between land subsidence and groundwater level changes of approximately two months in Beijing Airport, Jinzhan, Jingxian and Zaoqiang, of three months in Shangzhuang, Heizhuanghu, Guangyang, Wangqingtuo and Dongguang and of four months in Shengfang. The emission of greenhouse gases, especially CO2, is the main factor causing global warming. Due to incomplete statistical data on energy consumption at and below the urban scale of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH), in this study, Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS) and Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (NPP-VIIRS) data were combined, and a neural network model and weighted average method based on DN (Digital Number) value were used to obtain CO2 emissions at the municipal and county scales with a resolution of 1 km × 1 km from 2000–2019. Next, a spatial-temporal analysis model and spatial econometric model were used to study the CO2 emissions at different scales of BTH. This study also solved the problem that STIRPAT analysis cannot be carried out due to insufficient urban statistical CO2 emissions data. The results show that the energy CO2 emissions in BTH present a distribution pattern of "East greater than West", with a trend of first rising and then slowing down. Moreover, the rapid growth areas are mainly located in Chengde and Tianjin. The degree of regional spatial aggregation decreased year by year from 2000–2019. Population, affluence and technology factors were positively correlated with CO2 emissions in Tianjin and Hebei. For Beijing, in addition to foreign investment, factors such as urbanization rate, energy intensity, construction and transportation factors all contributed to the increase in CO2 emissions. Among them, the growth of population is the main reason for the increase of CO2 at the urban scale in BTH. Finally, based on the research results and the specific situation of the cities, corresponding policies and measures are proposed for the future low-carbon development of the cities. Linear regression models are commonly used for estimating ground PM2.5 concentrations, but the global spatial autocorrelation and local spatial heterogeneity of PM2.5 distribution are either ignored or only partially considered in commonly used models for estimating PM2.5 concentrations. Therefore, taking both global spatial autocorrelation and local spatial heterogeneity into consideration, a global-local regression (GLR) model is proposed for estimating ground PM2.5 concentrations in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) and in the Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei (BTH) regions of China based on the aerosol optical depth data, meteorological data, remote sensing data, and pollution source data. Considering the global spatial autocorrelation, the GLR model extracts global factors by the eigenvector spatial filtering (ESF) method, and combines the fraction of them that passes further filtering with the geographically weighted regression (GWR) method to address the local spatial heterogeneity. Comprehensive results show that the GLR model outperforms the ordinary GWR and ESF models, and the GLR model has the best performance at the monthly, seasonal, and annual levels. The average adjusted R2 of the monthly GLR model in the YRD region (the BTH region) is 0.620 (0.853), which is 8.0% and 7.4% (6.8% and 7.0%) higher than that of the monthly ESF and GWR models, respectively. The average cross-validation root mean square error of the monthly GLR model is 7.024 μg/m3 in the YRD region, and 9.499 μg/m3 in the BTH region, which is lower than that of the ESF and GWR models. The GLR model can effectively address the spatial autocorrelation and spatial heterogeneity, and overcome the shortcoming of the ordinary GWR model that overfocuses on local features and the disadvantage of the poor local performance of the ordinary ESF model. Forest height is an essential parameter used to derive important information about forest ecosystems, such as forest above-ground biomass. In this article, a forest height estimation approach combining P-band and X-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) was introduced. The forest height was estimated using the difference in the penetration of long- and short-wavelength radars to the forest. That is, the P-band and X-band InSAR data were used to extract the digital terrain model (DTM) and digital surface model (DSM), respectively. For the DTM, an improved time-frequency (TF) analysis method was used to reduce the effect of forest scatterers on the extraction of a pure understory terrain phase based on P-band InSAR. For the DSM, a novel compensation algorithm based on a multi-layer model (MLM) was proposed to remove the penetration bias of the X-band. Compared to the existing method based on the infinitely deep uniform volumes (IDUV) model, the MLM-based method is more in line with the characteristics of forest structure and the scattering mechanism for X-band InSAR. The airborne P-band repeat-pass InSAR and spaceborne X-band (TanDEM-X) single-pass InSAR data were used to verify the proposed method over the study area in the Saihanba Forest Farm in Hebei, China. The results demonstrated that the improved TF method can achieve high-precision DTM extraction based on P-band InSAR data, and the root mean square error (RMSE) was 0.94 m. The proposed MLM-based compensation method of the DSM achieved a smaller error (RMSE: 1.67 m) compared to the IDUV-based method (RMSE: 3.01 m). Under the same DTM extracted by P-band InSAR, the estimation accuracy of forest height based on the MLM method was 86.58% (RMSE: 1.81 m), which was 8.49% higher than that of the IDUV-based method (RMSE: 2.98 m). Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a harmful air pollutant that seriously affects public health and sustainable urban development. Previous studies analyzed the spatial pattern and driving factors of PM2.5 concentrations in different regions. However, the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of various influencing factors on PM2.5 was ignored. This study applies the geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model and geographic information system (GIS) analysis methods to investigate the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of PM2.5 concentrations and the influencing factors in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River from 2000 to 2017. The findings indicate that: (1) the annual average of PM2.5 concentrations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River show an overall trend of first rising and then decreasing from 2000 to 2017. In addition, there are significant differences in inter-province PM2.5 pollution in the study area, the PM2.5 concentrations of Tianjin City, Shandong Province, and Henan Province were far higher than the overall mean value of the study area. (2) PM2.5 concentrations in western cities showed a declining trend, while it had a gradually rising trend in the middle and eastern cities of the study area. Meanwhile, the PM2.5 pollution showed the characteristics of path dependence and region locking. (3) the PM2.5 concentrations had significant spatial agglomeration characteristics from 2000 to 2017. The "High-High (H-H)" clusters were mainly concentrated in the southern Hebei Province and the northern Henan Province, and the "Low-Low (L-L)" clusters were concentrated in northwest marginal cities in the study area. (4) The influencing factors of PM2.5 have significant spatiotemporal non-stationary characteristics, and there are obvious differences in the direction and intensity of socio-economic and natural factors. Overall, the variable of temperature is one of the most important natural conditions to play a positive impact on PM2.5, while elevation makes a strong negative impact on PM2.5. Car ownership and population density are the main socio-economic influencing factors which make a positive effect on PM2.5, while the variable of foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a strong negative effect on PM2.5. The results of this study are useful for understanding the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of PM2.5 concentrations and formulating policies to alleviate haze pollution by policymakers in the Yellow River Basin. The forest canopy height (FCH) plays a critical role in forest quality evaluation and resource management. The accurate and rapid estimation and mapping of the regional forest canopy height is crucial for understanding vegetation growth processes and the internal structure of the ecosystem. A stacking algorithm consisting of multiple linear regression (MLR), support vector machine (SVM), k-nearest neighbor (kNN), and random forest (RF) was used in this paper and demonstrated optimal performance in predicting the forest canopy height by synergizing Sentinel-2 images acquired from the cloud-based computation platform Google Earth Engine (GEE) with data from ICESat-2 (Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2). This research was conducted to achieve continuous mapping of the canopy height of plantations in Saihanba Mechanical Forest Plantation, which is located in Chengde City, northern Hebei province, China. The results show that stacking achieved the best prediction accuracy for the forest canopy height, with an R2 of 0.77 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.96 m. Compared with MLR, SVM, kNN, and RF, the RMSE obtained by stacking was reduced by 25.2%, 24.9%, 22.8%, and 18.7%, respectively. Since Sentinel-2 images and ICESat-2 data are publicly available, this opens the door for the accurate mapping of the continuous distribution of the forest canopy height globally in the future. Abstract: In recent years, China has developed and launched several satellites with high spatial resolutions, such as the resources satellite No. 3 (ZY-3) with a multi-spectral camera (MUX) and 5.8 m spatial resolution, the satellite GaoFen No. 1 (GF-1) with a wide field of view (WFV) camera and 16 m spatial resolution, and the environment satellite (HJ-1A/B) with a charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor and 30 m spatial resolution. First, to analyze the potential application of ZY-3 MUX, GF-1 WFV, and HJ-1 CCD to extract the leaf area index (LAI) at the regional scale, this study estimated LAI from the relationships between physical model-based spectral vegetation indices (SVIs) and LAI values that were generated from look-up tables (LUTs), simulated from the combination of the PROSPECT-5B leaf model and the scattering by arbitrarily inclined leaves with the hot-spot effect (SAILH) canopy reflectance model. Second, to assess the surface reflectance quality of these sensors after data preprocessing, the well-processed surface reflectance products of the Landsat-8 operational land imager (OLI) sensor with a convincing data quality were used to compare the performances of ZY-3 MUX, GF-1 WFV, and HJ-1 CCD sensors both in theory and reality. Apart from several reflectance fluctuations, the reflectance trends were coincident, and the reflectance values of the red and near-infrared (NIR) bands were comparable among these sensors. Finally, to analyze the accuracy of the LAI estimated from ZY-3 MUX, GF-1 WFV, and HJ-1 CCD, the LAI estimations from these sensors were validated based on LAI field measurements in Huailai, Hebei Province, China. The results showed that the performance of the LAI that was inversed from ZY-3 MUX was better than that from GF-1 WFV, and HJ-1 CCD, both of which tended to be systematically underestimated. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is an important agricultural parameter that is closely correlated with crop growth. In this study, a novel method combining the dynamic time warping (DTW) model and the long short-term memory (LSTM) deep recurrent neural network model was developed to predict the short and medium-term winter wheat NDVI. LSTM is well-suited for modelling long-term dependencies, but this method may be susceptible to overfitting. In contrast, DTW possesses good predictive ability and is less susceptible to overfitting. Therefore, by utilizing the combination of these two models, the prediction error caused by overfitting is reduced, thus improving the final prediction accuracy. The combined method proposed here utilizes the historical MODIS time series data with an 8-day time resolution from 2015 to 2020. First, fast Fourier transform (FFT) is used to decompose the time series into two parts. The first part reflects the inter-annual and seasonal variation characteristics of winter wheat NDVI, and the DTW model is applied for prediction. The second part reflects the short-term change characteristics of winter wheat NDVI, and the LSTM model is applied for prediction. Next, the results from both models are combined to produce a final prediction. A case study in Hebei Province that predicts the NDVI of winter wheat at five prediction horizons in the future indicates that the DTW–LSTM model proposed here outperforms the LSTM model according to multiple evaluation indicators. Automatically extracting buildings from remote sensing images with deep learning is of great significance to urban planning, disaster prevention, change detection, and other applications. Various deep learning models have been proposed to extract building information, showing both strengths and weaknesses in capturing the complex spectral and spatial characteristics of buildings in remote sensing images. To integrate the strengths of individual models and obtain fine-scale spatial and spectral building information, this study proposed a stacking ensemble deep learning model. First, an optimization method for the prediction results of the basic model is proposed based on fully connected conditional random fields (CRFs). On this basis, a stacking ensemble model (SENet) based on a sparse autoencoder integrating U-NET, SegNet, and FCN-8s models is proposed to combine the features of the optimized basic model prediction results. Utilizing several cities in Hebei Province, China as a case study, a building dataset containing attribute labels is established to assess the performance of the proposed model. The proposed SENet is compared with three individual models (U-NET, SegNet and FCN-8s), and the results show that the accuracy of SENet is 0.954, approximately 6.7%, 6.1%, and 9.8% higher than U-NET, SegNet, and FCN-8s models, respectively. The identification of building features, including colors, sizes, shapes, and shadows, is also evaluated, showing that the accuracy, recall, F1 score, and intersection over union (IoU) of the SENet model are higher than those of the three individual models. This suggests that the proposed ensemble model can effectively depict the different features of buildings and provides an alternative approach to building extraction with higher accuracy. Owing to the various shapes of ice particles, the relationships between fall velocity, backscattering cross-section, mass, and particle size are complicated. This affects the application of cloud radar Doppler spectral density data in the retrieval of the microphysical properties of ice crystals. In this study, under the assumption of six particle shape types, the relationships between particle mass, fall velocity, backscattering cross-section, and particle size were established based on existing research. Variations of Doppler spectral density with the same particle size distribution (PSD) of different ice particle types are discussed. The radar-retrieved liquid and ice PSDs, water content, and mean volume-weighted particle diameter were compared with airborne in situ observations in the Xingtai, Hebei Province, China, in 2018. The results showed the following. (1) For the particles with the same equivalent diameter ( D e ), the fall velocity of the aggregates was the largest, followed by hexagonal columns, hexagonal plates, sector plates, and stellar crystals, with the ice spheres falling two to three times faster than ice crystals with the same D e . Hexagonal columns had the largest backscattering cross-section, followed by stellar crystals and sector plates, and the backscattering cross-sections of hexagonal plates and the two types of aggregates were very close to those of ice spheres. (2) The width of the simulated radar Doppler spectral density generated by various ice crystal types with the same PSD was mainly affected by the particle's falling velocity, which increased with the particle size. Turbulence had different degrees of influence on the Doppler spectrum of different ice crystals, and it also brought large errors to the PSD retrieval. (3) PSD comparisons showed that each ice crystal type retrieved from the cloud radar corresponded well to aircraft observations within a certain scale range, when assuming that only a certain type of ice crystals existed in the cloud, which could fully prove the feasibility of retrieving ice PSDs from the reflectivity spectral density. Worldwide urbanization leads to ecological changes around urban areas. However, few studies have quantitatively investigated the impacts of urbanization on vegetation coverage so far. As an important indicator measuring regional environment change, fractional vegetation cover (FVC) is widely used to analyze changes in vegetation in urban areas. In this study, on the basis of a partial derivative model, we quantified the effect of temperature, precipitation, radiation, and urbanization represented as nighttime light on vegetation coverage changes in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region during its period of rapid resident population growth from 2001 to 2011. The results showed that (1) the FVC of the BTH region varied from 0.20 to 0.26, with significant spatial heterogeneity. The FVC increased in small cities such as Cangzhou and in the Taihang Mountains, while it decreased in megacities with populations greater than 1 million, such as Beijing and Zhangjiakou Bashang. (2) The BTH region experienced rapid urbanization, with the area of artificial surface increasing by 18.42%. From the urban core area to the fringe area, the urbanization intensity decreased, but the urbanization rate increased. (3) Urbanization and precipitation had the greatest effect on FVC changes. Urbanization dominated the FVC changes in the expanded area, while precipitation had the greatest impacts on the FVC changes in the core area. For future studies on the major influencing factors of FVC changes, quantitative analysis of the contribution of urbanization to FVC changes in urban regions is crucial and will provide scientific perspectives for sustainable urban planning. Grain protein content (GPC) is an important indicator of wheat quality. Earlier estimation of wheat GPC based on remote sensing provided effective decision to adapt optimized strategies for grain harvest, which is of great significance for agricultural production. The objectives of this field study are: (i) To assess the ability of spectral vegetation indices (VIs) of Sentinel 2 data to detect the wheat nitrogen (N) attributes related to the grain quality of winter wheat production, and (ii) to examine the accuracy of wheat N status and GPC estimation models based on different VIs and wheat nitrogen parameters across Analytical Spectra Devices (ASD) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) hyper-spectral data-simulated sentinel data and the real Sentinel-2 data. In this study, four nitrogen parameters at the wheat anthesis stage, including plant nitrogen accumulation (PNA), plant nitrogen content (PNC), leaf nitrogen accumulation (LNA), and leaf nitrogen content (LNC), were evaluated for their relationship between spectral parameters and GPC. Then, a multivariate linear regression method was used to establish the wheat nitrogen and GPC estimation model through simulated Sentinel-2A VIs. The coefficients of determination ( R 2 ) of four nitrogen parameter models were all greater than 0.7. The minimum R 2 of the prediction model of wheat GPC constructed by four nitrogen parameters combined with VIs was 0.428 and the highest R 2 was 0.467. The normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) of the four nitrogen estimation models ranged from 26.333% to 29.530% when verified by the ground-measured data collected from the Beijing suburbs, and the corresponding nRMSE for the GPC-predicted models ranged from 17.457% to 52.518%. The accuracy of the estimated model was verified by UAV hyper-spectral data which had resized to different spatial resolution collected from the National Experimental Station for Precision Agriculture. The normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) of the four nitrogen estimation models ranged from 16.9% to 37.8%, and the corresponding nRMSE for the GPC-predicted models ranged from 12.3% to 13.2%. The relevant models were also verified by Sentinel-2A data collected in 2018 while the minimum nRMSE for GPC invert model based on PNA was 7.89% and the maximum nRMSE of the GPC model based on LNC was 12.46% in Renqiu district, Hebei province. The nRMSE for the wheat nitrogen estimation model ranged from 23.200% to 42.790% for LNC and PNC. Crop yield estimation at a regional scale over a long period of time is of great significance to food security. In past decades, the integration of remote sensing observations and crop growth models has been recognized as a promising approach for crop growth monitoring and yield estimation. Optical remote sensing data are susceptible to cloud and rain, while synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can penetrate through clouds and has all-weather capabilities. This allows for more reliable and consistent crop monitoring and yield estimation in terms of radar sensor data. The aim of this study is to improve the accuracy for winter wheat yield estimation by assimilating time series soil moisture images, which are retrieved by a water cloud model using SAR and optical data as input, into the crop model. In this study, SAR images were acquired by C-band SAR sensors boarded on Sentinel-1 satellites and optical images were obtained from a Sentinel-2 multi-spectral instrument (MSI) for Hengshui city of Hebei province in China. Remote sensing data and ground data were all collected during the main growing season of winter wheat. Both the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), derived from Sentinel-2, and backscattering coefficients and polarimetric indicators, computed from Sentinel-1, were used in the water cloud model to derive time series soil moisture (SM) images. To improve the prediction of crop yields at the field scale, we incorporated remotely sensed soil moisture into the World Food Studies (WOFOST) model using the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) algorithm. In general, the trend of soil moisture inversion was consistent with the ground measurements, with the coefficient of determination (R2) equal to 0.45, 0.53, and 0.49, respectively, and RMSE was 9.16%, 7.43%, and 8.53%, respectively, for three observation dates. The winter wheat yield estimation results showed that the assimilation of remotely sensed soil moisture improved the correlation of observed and simulated yields (R2 = 0.35; RMSE =934 kg/ha) compared to the situation without data assimilation (R2 = 0.21; RMSE = 1330 kg/ha). Consequently, the results of this study demonstrated the potential and usefulness of assimilating SM retrieved from both Sentinel-1 C-band SAR and Sentinel-2 MSI optical remote sensing data into WOFOST model for winter wheat yield estimation and could also provide a reference for crop yield estimation with data assimilation for other crop types. The new Chinese Ka-band solid-state transmitter cloud radar (CR) uses four operational modes with different pulse widths and coherent integration and non-coherent integration numbers to meet long-term cloud measurement requirements. The CR and an instrument-equipped aircraft were used to observe clouds and precipitation on the east side of Taihang Mountain in Hebei Province in 2018. To resolve the data quality problems caused by attenuation in the precipitation area; we focused on developing an algorithm for attenuation correction based on rain drop size distribution (DSD) retrieved from the merged Doppler spectral density data of the four operational modes following data quality control (QC). After dealiasing Doppler velocity and removal of range sidelobe artifacts; we merged the four types of Doppler spectral density data. Vertical air speed and DSD are retrieved from the merged Doppler spectral density data. Finally, we conducted attenuation correction of Doppler spectral density data and recalculated Doppler moments such as reflectivity; radial velocity; and spectral width. We evaluated the consistencies of reflectivity spectra from the four operational modes and DSD retrieval performance using airborne in situ observation. We drew three conclusions: First, the four operational modes observed similar reflectivity and velocity for clouds and low-velocity solid hydrometeors; however; three times of coherent integration underestimated Doppler reflectivity spectra for velocities greater than 2 m s−1. Reflectivity spectra were also underestimated for low signal-to-noise ratios in the low-sensitivity operational mode. Second, QC successfully dealiased Doppler velocity and removed range sidelobe artifacts; and merging of the reflectivity spectra mitigated the effects of coherent integration and pulse compression on radar data. Lastly, the CR observed similar DSD and liquid water content vertical profiles to airborne in situ observations. Comparing CR and aircraft data yielded uncertainty due to differences in observation space and temporal and spatial resolutions of the data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
