The present paper aims to investigate the opening up of the forest complex Maries - Limenaria of the island of Thassos in Greece and its environmental impacts. First the study of the conditions of the forest road network of the mountain forest complex of Maries-Limenaria was done, then the assessment of the environmental impacts of the opening up of the above-mentioned complex, by investigating the intensity of the above impacts on the natural environment and the ability of the forest ecosystem to absorb these impacts of the opening up projects. Finally, based on the results conclusions are drawn, and solutions are proposed. With the completion of the research in forest complex of Maries - Limenaria favorable conditions will be created to influence, facilitate and improve substantially: a. The carrying out of the skidding of wood with modern instruments and new methods, both in terms of silvicultural goals, and technical requirements. b. The creation for both the skidding and for the transport of wood favorable conditions for technical and economical point of view, which substantially affect the extent and intensity of the forest operation. c. The better performance of forest operations. d. The movement of forest personnel and forest workers for better implementation, surveillance, and protection of the forest. e. The transportation of materials and equipment for carrying out any work of afforestation etc. f. The increase in tourism and the exploitation of sites appropriate for recreation. This paper analysed physical known parameters which connect changes in mechanical field of the matter with electromagnetic wave occurrence. Previous laboratory investigations and theoretical prediction from Pride (1994), gives hope for detailed analysis of magnetograms to discover the seismic effects of disturbance of the magnetic field. In this paper is studied influence of the earthquake from 12.10.2013 in Crete, Greece, or magnetograms from geomagnetic stations on Plackovica and Skopje. Because of the low value of the amplitude of geomagnetic variation caused from seismic action, the transformation was made in the geromagnetic field in dH/dt time domain. The area of expected impact of seismo-magnetic phenomena in the magnetogram is defined, depending on the distance between the source of the earthquake and the area were magnetogram is registered (geomagnetic observatory), taking into account propagation velocity of the seismo-magnetic disturbances. Successful laboratory experiments and basic theory for correlation of seismic and geomagnetic field gives opportunity for development of seismomagnetism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we present the spatial distribution of sedimentological and geochemical characteristics of the bottom sediments of Vouliagmeni lake which is located in the SW Perachora peninsula extending into the eastern Gulf of Corinth, Greece. A total of nineteen (19) samples consisting of upper 1-2cm lake bottom sediments were collected and analyzed. Standard sedimentological analyses were carried out including grain size analysis and the measurement of calcium carbonate content (CaCO3), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP). Concentrations of major elements and trace elements measured by comparison of X-ray intensities for each element with calibration lines constructed from the analysis of known concentrations in of international standards. The sedimentological evaluation of the Vouliagmeni lake reveal that the high clay content (>30%) in the sediments is apparent in the deep part of the lake. Silt and clay content are >90% in water depths between 23-46 m. The high sand content is found between 3.4 and 8.5 m water depth. The carbonate concentration found between 18% and 64%. Low CaCO3 content is apparent in the deep horizons of the lake. However, TOC, TN and TP are concentrated in the depths with high values found in the sediments between 23-46 m. The high correlation (r>0.83) for Ni, Cu, Pb, Zn and Rb with the Al2O3 shows the same origin of these metals and their association with the detrital materials from the catchment. The elements Fe, Mn, Mg, K, Ti, P and TP are well correlated with the aluminosilicate fraction of the sediments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dojran Lake is the smallest natural lake in Macedonia, but is very important water resource for population in the region. Main economy in the region is tourism and fishery. Dojran Lake with its hydrological basin is a closed hydrological system with natural inflow of water to the lake, but no natural outflow. Recharge of the lake is from direct surface and underground inflow. In the period 1988-2000, the water level in the lake continuously was declining. Water level declination caused ecological catastrophe for the flora and fauna in the lake and lake's basin. In 2002, the Republic of Macedonia finished a project to build a system for bringing water from Gjavato wells near Vardar River with capacity of 1 m /s. The water level in the lake has recently increased. The reasons for changing the water level in the lake are not clearly identified, and they are located in hydrological conditions or uncontrolled usage the water from the lake. In order to define the causes of changes in the lake requires detailed hydrological and meteorological analysis.
