With the widespread use of substation intelligent simulation systems, existing substation intelligent simulation systems have problems such as platform redundancy, system dispersion, and information sharing, which can lead to the insecurity of substation intelligent simulation systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a security operation analysis of substation intelligent simulation system based on improved genetic algorithms, aiming to improve the security of substation intelligent simulation system by using improved genetic algorithms. This paper experimentally tests that the number of vulnerabilities in a substation intelligent simulation system using improved genetic algorithms is between 0 and 20 within a month, while the number of vulnerabilities in a traditional substation intelligent simulation system is between 30 and 50, indicating that improved genetic algorithms do have the effect of improving the safety coefficient of the substation intelligent simulation system. Agent-based modeling has become increasingly prevalent in transportation systems simulation as the scenarios around new technologies and policies become increasingly complex. This increased complexity, in terms of traveler behavior, traffic flow, modal operations, system management, and so on, requires increasingly sensitive and detailed representation of the core components of the simulation, especially as it relates to traffic flow. Many future mobility solutions rely on connectivity, communication, advanced sensing, and detailed information flows, while the simulation also needs to remain computationally tractable. In this paper, we propose a new Lagrangian Coordinate within the POLARIS Agent-Based-Modeling Framework (LC-POLARIS) of traffic flow, which combines computational efficiency while adding microscopic features. This model allows multi-class traffic flow by setting different speed-spacing relationships. In this modeling, automated vehicles have lower reaction time, while light-duty trucks have lower free-flow speed and higher jam spacing. The model captures the reduction in capacity and higher queue spillback because of higher jam spacing of trucks. Also, the model yields higher capacity for both passenger and light duty automated vehicles on expressways. Macroscopic traffic flow models are powerful tools for assessing the level of service on freeway segments. One popular model is the Cell Transmission Model (CTM) proposed by Daganzo. The US highway capacity manual (HCM) operationalizes this model in the form of the simulation tool FREEVAL for assessing sequences of freeway segments. The conceptual CTM also supports networks of freeway segments. In the literature this was implemented and applied to a mid-scale freeway network of 340 km. However, the literature lacks research in efficient implementations of CTM, which becomes relevant when applying it to large-scale networks at national scale like the German Autobahn with a length of 260 000 km. In this paper we propose a vectorized formulation of the CTM for networks. Boolean vectors are employed for vectorized case distinction. Furthermore, we exploit the properties of adjacency matrices to achieve shifting operation on complex network structures. To evaluate the vectorized CTM implementation, we simulate synthetic freeway network grids of varying size and complexity for different simulation periods. The results show that the network complexity has no influence on computation time, while it scales linear in simulated hours. A quadratic regression was applied to the measured computation times over varying network sizes. For large network sizes, the vectorized CTM implementation achieves a speedup factor of 9 compared to a sequential implementation. The work presented in this paper is part of a project that focuses on sorting simulation models used at Intel to calculate power consumption of electronic devices. Hundreds of thousands of analytical power models have already been accumulated in a directory of files and folders, for the simulation of the consumption of thousands of products. As a first step, this work focuses on comparing and grouping together models of smaller granularity - the formulas - which consist of power equations, the definition of the parameters involved in these equations, and a description. To manage this large data problem, we follow the principles of Model Management and Analytics, to decompose the problem into the analysis of constituent fields. We believe that the equations describing power consumption are the most highly information-rich field of our models. The aim of this work is to group together the formulas models, using Mathematical Language Processing (MLP), to take advantage of the business information contained in electrical equations. Many cities around the world have experienced an increase in population and pose challenges in planning and managing the freight transportation within the city. Off-peak hour delivery (OPHD) is a strategy of delivering goods in the afternoon and evening to reduce congestion during peak periods, increase the efficiency of delivery companies, and reduce emissions. This research proposed a model of city logistics in the retail supply chain by implementing OPHD in the logistics system. The aim of this study is to explore the extent of potential implementation of OPHD in urban logistics. An agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) approach is applied to model the autonomous and dynamic interactions of stakeholders involved in city logistics systems. Preliminary results are presented in this paper to provide illustrations of the model. It shows that OPHD can significantly reduce the transportation cost and emissions cost, and ABMS is able to provide results that are relatively close to pilot test drive research which is carried out in real world. Swarm Production is a novel paradigm promoting a high degree of flexibility in material flow and reconfigurability in shop floor layout, enabling high-mix production in manufacturing through the induction of autonomous robots. With the development of 3D technology, the construction of 3D motion model has become an important research issue in many fields, such as virtual reality, animation and robot vision. In this paper, a 3D motion model construction method based on simulation algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the gravity simulation algorithm is used to simulate the trajectory of the object, and the position data of multiple moments with numerical accuracy of 10cm are obtained. Then, the interpolation algorithm is used to interpolate these position data into continuous curves, and the object trajectory with 1cm accuracy is obtained. Finally, we integrate the obtained trajectory data with 3D modeling software to generate a 3D motion model with real motion effect. Constructing simulation models can be a complex and time-consuming task, in particular if the models are constructed from scratch or if a general-purpose simulation modeling tool is used. In this paper, we propose a model construction framework, which aims to simplify the process of constructing discrete event simulation models for emergency medical service (EMS) policy analysis. The main building blocks used in the framework are a set of general activities that can be used to represent different EMS care chains modeled as flowcharts. The framework allows to build models only by specifying input data, including demographic and statistical data, and providing a care chain of activities and decisions. In a case study, we evaluated the framework by using it to construct a model for the simulation of the EMS activities related to acute stroke. Vehicular communication is characterized by a dynamic environment and high mobility. In this paper we present a shadow fading model targeting system simulations based on real measurements performed in underground gallery. As first results, we present in this paper the delay spread statistics for each investigated environment. We also study the large-scale, small-scale fading and extract some time channel parameters such as root-mean-square (RMS) delay for a realistic underground propagation environment at 5.9 GHz. Since there are so far few published results for these confined environments, the results obtained can be useful for the deployment of vehicular-to-vehicular (V2V) and vehicular-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication systems inside underground mines galleries. The paper presents a procedure for creating a simulation model of the horizontal seat suspension system. At first, the physical model is proposed and then the non-linear characteristics of individual system components are described mathematically. The unknown model parameters are determined by means of the specific experiments that are performed in laboratory conditions. Finally, the vibration transmissibility behavior is investigated ensuring that the created simulation model is as close to the real vibro-isolation process as possible. The results of numerical research and experimental investigation are discussed in view of their potential interest in the development of vibration isolation systems used for protecting the human body against harmful vibrations. Parallel platforms are known for its positioning ability. Adding flexibility to a robotic system gives an advantage to better interact with the environment. In this paper a 2 DOF flexible parallel platform has been developed which consist of a triangular top and base plate connected by a universal joint at its centroid. The Shape memory alloy (SMA) springs are used as an actuator because of its large strain and are connected between the top and base plate on all the three vertices of the platform. The top plate provides desired orientation with respect to base plate on SMA actuation. The work intends to understand the system behavior by developing a mathematical model of the system. Two separate models, one to understand the kinematics and dynamics of the platform and other to understand the dynamics of the SMA spring actuator has been developed. The models were then integrated to understand the complete system behavior. The paper focuses on the integration of various system level equations to develop a general model of the SMA actuated platform and the algorithm incorporated for the same has been discussed in the work. The mathematical models were developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The kinematic model of the platform was verified on the experimental set up. The dynamic model of SMA actuator described by Liang was used and the results obtained were found to characterize the SMA. Travelling salesman problem is a combinatorial optimization problem with wide application background and important theoretical value. The traditional method is only suitable for solving small scale travelling salesman problems, thus limiting the application and popularization of such methods. Based on genetic algorithm, the paper proposes an improved strategy combining random crossover and dynamic mutation to increase population diversity and optimize mutation characters. The simulation results show the convergence rate and the optimal solution of the improved algorithm in the paper are obviously superior to the traditional genetic algorithm, the adaptive crossover probability genetic algorithm and the improved selection genetic algorithm, and it provides a new method for the travelling salesman problem. Distributed algorithms have become a rapidly growing field of research due to the advances of the network technologies. However, they are very difficult to implement correctly because they must meet many requirements. In this paper, we follow the guidelines of systematic literature reviews to provide a survey of the existing works ensuring the formal verification of distributed algorithms in static and dynamic networks. Then, we develop a taxonomy of these solutions based on some criteria. Also, a discussion on each criterion is shown with a focus on constraints, requirements and challenges. Finally, we identify some recommendations and open research areas which can motivate the development of more efficient solutions. So, throughout this present paper, we provide information for researchers and developers to understand the contributions and challenges of the existing solutions to pave the way for enhancing their reliability. In this paper, an artificial neural network (ANN)-based gap acceptance behavior model was proposed. The feasibility of implementing this model in a microscopic simulation tool was tested using the application programming interface of Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) simulation package. A stop-controlled intersection in New Jersey was selected as a case study. The simulation model of this intersection was calibrated using ground truth data extracted during the afternoon peak hours. The ANN-based SUMO model was compared to SUMO model with default gap acceptance parameters and the SUMO model with calibrated gap acceptance parameters. The comparison was based on wait time and accepted gap values at the minor approach of the intersection. The results showed that the ANN-based model produced superior results based on the selected outputs. The analysis results also indicated that the ANN-based model leads to significantly more realistic driving behavior of vehicles on the major approach of the intersection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to explore the possibility of implementing location-based game using the smartphone’s GPS to enhance the player’s experience. With the GPS technology, the player can play in a real world as well as in the virtual game world. We postulate this thus will enhance the player’s experience. To test the hypothesis, a horror game genre with location-based features was developed. The game was evaluated to thirty participants. The results demonstrate the game allowed the participants to explore a new place with fun. In addition, the participants claimed that the game allow them to enjoy a new experience in playing horror game. The participants described that playing the game was giving them more tension compare to playing a conventional horror game. Moreover, the participants claimed that they feel more familiar with the place they’ve explored during the game. Finally, some improvements could be done to improve the experience enhancement to the game. First, more variation in the storyline, quests and the enemy. Agent-Based modelling has been around us for quite some time now and has thus become a crucial factor for executing prediction-based planning, such as the transportation models for metropolitan cities. This paper undertakes the fundamental understanding of the agent-based modeling and simulation and its application to the transportation models while discussing the scope of its applications and advantages too. The paper then presents the concepts attributed to the social behaviors in conjunction with the agent-based modelling techniques applied so far. Because of the lack of satisfactory solutions to explain biological systems, biologists usually focus on modelling and simulation tools to understand the behaviour of these complex organisms. Indeed, computational modelling and simulation of cells plays a pivotal role in systems biology. In this paper, we tackle the problem of studying the behaviour of human cells by reproducing the behaviour of complex biomolecular networks. To this end, we present in this paper an approach for simulating complex biomolecular networks inspired by the discrete-event simulation model (DEVS), a formalism developed for supporting the modelling of complex systems. In this paper, we propose a simulation tool, named ”CBNSimulator”, based on a logical model of the biomolecular network and taking advantage of the performance of a discrete-time simulation model for understanding the evolution and the behaviour of complex biomolecular networks as a discrete sequence of events in time. The proposed tool has been applied to the case study of a ribosomal protein regulation network, named ”the bacteriophage T4 gene 32”, and results given by this simulation tool are in agreement with the expert’s judgement. The rapid growth of networks and the increase in the value of information have led to a wide use of fog and boundary computing especially in the wireless networks of telecom operators. Creating models to study such networks is complicated due to the use of wired and wireless communications, software-configurable networks, container and software virtualization, virtual and hardware switches and routers simultaneously. Our paper is devoted to the methods to create simulation models of the fog computing infrastructure based on the open environment OMNeT++, as well as tools for analyzing the dynamic network state. The adequacy of our model has been checked statistically for each measured state of the real network. In this paper we present approach taken to run multiple Kepler sessions at the same time. This kind od execution is one of the requirements for the codes developed within EUROfusion. It allows to gain speed and resources. The choice of Integrated Modelling made by the former EFDA ITM-TF and pursued now under EUROfusion WPCD is unique and original: it entails the development of a comprehensive and completely generic tokamak simulator including both the physics and the machine, which can be applied for any fusion device. All components are linked inside workflows and this way allow complex coupling of various algorithms while providing consistency. Workflows are composed of Kepler and Ptolemy II elements as well as set of the native libraries written in various languages (Fortran, C, C++). In addition to that, there are Python based components that are used for visualization of results as well as for pre/post processing. At the bottom of all these components there is database layer that may vary between software releases. All these constraints make it really challenging to run multiple Kepler sessions at the same time. However, ability to run numerous sessions in parallel is a must - to reduce computation time and to make it possible to run released codes while working with new software at the same time. This paper proposes a low complexity low-density parity check decoder (LDPC) design. The design mainly accomplishes a message passing algorithm and systolic high throughput architecture. The typical mathematical calculations are based on the observation that nodes with high log likelihood ratio provide almost same information in every iteration and can be considered as stationary, we propose an algorithm in which the parity check matrix H is updated to a reduced complexity form every time a stationary node is encountered which results in lesser number of numerical computations in subsequent iterations. In this paper, we contemplately focuses on computational complexity and the decoder design significantly benefits from the high throughput point of view and the various improvisations introduced at various levels of abstraction in the decoder design. Threshold Controlled Min Sum Algorithm implements the LDPC decoder design for a code compliant with wired and wireless applications. In the Poznan University of Technology Chair of Production Engineering and Management, a Virtual Reality –Rapid Prototyping team has been active for many years and one of the studied activities is possibility of VR use in classes for higher education. As a result of cooperation with one of the medical universities in the region, an educational application has been developed, as a didactic aid during anatomy, physiology and pathology courses. During the test use, the application has been found quite interesting for both the lecturers and the students. It allowed, among other things, to freely slice the virtual human body and showing and hiding selected groups of organs, in order to allow detailed inspection of human anatomy by the user. This work continues in the study presented in this paper –they are aimed at expanding the simulation functionalities and allowing to conduct a training for the ultrasound examination. In many previous studies, it was proven that possibility of tracking the user's movements allows the simulation realism to be improved. It is a result of the phenomenon of immersion of the user in the virtual world. The immersion improves quality of the conducted virtual training and allows to better use the abilities learned during the course. In case of the ultrasound scanner, it is necessary to track both the position and the orientation of the device head, for proper generation of the virtual image of the insides of the human body. The paper discusses a process of adaptation of a head used in the ultrasound scan to application in the training simulation. Process of preparation and adaptation of the head geometry was described, along with a process of preparation of virtual and then physical prototypes using the 3D Printing technology. The prepared prototypes were covered with markers of the optical tracking system. Proper arrangement of the markers was implemented in the database and scenarios of work were prepared, to check correctness of gathering information about the ultrasound scanner head orientation and position in the three-dimensional space. All traditional cryptographic algorithms used in the network communication environments, relied on mathematical models and computational assumptions, are actually unsafe and apt by many attackers (quantum and man-in-the-middle attacks). Therefore, nowadays Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) promises a secure key agreement by using quantum mechanical systems. QKD becomes a significant trend of new cryptographic revolution. This paper explains how cryptography exploits the quantum mechanics in order to achieve an encryption/decryption process. Additionally, this paper provides a standard simulation for QKD-BB84 protocol and describes improvement key generation and key distribution mechanisms. Then, validation, results and efficiency of BB84 protocol are presented using different security configurations. Finally, our results indicated that the QKD is susceptible to corporate with different security applications and achieve the key availability for such applications. This paper describes an inertial navigation system (INS) for autonomous quad copter application, based on Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOG). As the FOG lack the mechanical components of the age old traditional Gyroscopes, they show good performance in terms of weight, size, sensitivity, robustness and resistance to physical forces. These characteristics make a FOG very efficient and extremely useful in strap down altitude navigational systems using heading reference. In this paper, an effort has been made to design and test run an INS based on FOG, which tries to satisfy the generic positioning requirements for typical UAS applications. The paper also cover lab-evaluations of testing the response of the system based on several test cases which also include errors owing from alignment and those induced by the sensor itself. Clustering techniques in wireless sensor networks enables energy efficient coordination among the densely deployed nodes for data delivery till the base station. Many clustering protocols have been suggested in the recent past. The topology of the nodes, mostly seen in the literature, is of random type. This paper analyzes the performance aspects of various centralized clustering techniques for wireless sensor networks. LEACH-Centralized, KMeans-CP, FCM-CP and HSA-CP protocols have been compared with respect to clustering and data delivery process for various realistic topologies. The simulations were performed for these protocols and performance of the protocols has been critically analyzed. Grid computing has migrated from traditional high performance and distributed computing to pervasive and utility computing based on the advanced capabilities of the wireless networks and the lightweight, thin devices. This has as result the emergence of a new computing paradigm which is the Mobile Grid. This paper presents the simulation results in order to choose the best routing protocol to give the highest performance when implement the routing protocols in the target mobile grid application. This simulation gives the results for three ad hoc routing protocols named DSDV, DSR and AODV. The proposed pulse-width modulator is implemented with a target technology TSMC 65nm process. The comparator achieves sampling frequency up to 10 GHz with resolution of 10.11 bits and 13.28 bits at 1 GHz sampling clock while keeping the propagation delay less than 64 psec. for 1 mV input voltage difference. Due to new regulations about emissions, ship design needs to face in these years the challenge of implementing new technologies on-board vessels. All these technologies cut in different ways SO x , NO x and CO 2 emission and affect different ship's systems. Pollution reduction can be archived by implementing emission reduction systems, like scrubbers, or switching from traditional residual bulk fuels to different ones. To evaluate impact of each solution on-board, a system engineering approach must be applied since early-stage design. In this paper a simulation tool able to support ship design is presented. Thanks to a system simulation, different possible solutions for power generation are evaluated in three different cases, distinguishing specific weight factors for each evaluation criterion. We present a Web-based multi-layer architecture and implementation to enable near real-time collaboration within partially-distributed engineering teams in this paper. Our architecture named Distributed Modeling and Simulation (DisMoSim) enables collaborative 3D modeling and simulation of complex cyberphysical systems (CPS) across different servers, offices, lab spaces, or organizations. More specifically, DisMoSim creates networks of DisMoSim nodes that communicate using Web protocols with little or no perceptible delay. Each node provides different CPS services, e.g., user interface nodes provide collaborative 3D modeling; computational nodes provide simulations of multi-body dynamics or kinematics; storage nodes allow persisting and sharing models and simulation results; hardware-in-the-loop nodes connect physical testing workbenches to provide real-world sensor measurements as simulation input; software-in-the-loop nodes provide control signals to simulate hardware controllers. In the following, we derive a set of design goals and propose our DisMoSim architecture. We illustrate how we used our multi-layer conceptual architecture to implement a variety of CPS services for an example scenario. Stationary detectors are widely used in the urban area, such as loops and traffic cameras, providing with aggregated macroscopic quantities as well as individual pass-by records that could reveal the cluster features of the traffic flow. The paper proposes a multi-lane platoon based (MLP) model that can be calibrated with stationary data. A steady-state analysis is conducted to derive the model's internal capacity constraints (ICC). This paper presents a flexible agent-based simulation (ABS) model to serve as a matchmaking system for trucks such that they can form a platoon. A platoon is a formation of trucks which drive closely behind each other in a (semi)autonomous fashion. We focus on an agent-based system which seeks platoon candidates in the proximity of a truck and tries to find a match based on several properties of the trucks. The ABS does so in a dynamic fashion based on real-time (geo)data. Opposed to centralized systems, the matchmaking is done locally among trucks(agents). Due to the spontaneous nature of this matching type, we denote this type of platoon matching as real-time matching. We illustrate the ABS using a case study at a truck stop near the Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. While agent-based mobility simulations are becoming more widely used within the research community, the complexity of applied agent-based models and the scale of scenarios are growing. To tackle the increased computational demand, hardware accelerators such as GPUs are used for faster execution of large-scale scenarios. However, quite often, specialized hardware accelerators have limited capabilities for memory management and code execution. Such limitations pose an additional challenge to the implementation of traffic simulation models. This paper focuses on a gridlock situation that is typical for spatial traffic queue models and which has to be resolved in order to run simulations adequately. We propose and evaluate three different strategies for gridlock resolution in a mesoscopic traffic queue model implemented on GPU. The results show that, while the final simulation outcomes are similar for each strategy, the least realistic strategy provides faster convergence at a lower memory footprint, whereas the most realistic strategy is more suitable for visualization at the expense of slower convergence and up to 25% increase of the run time. Modern agent-based models often suffer from long runtimes (computation times). While quite a few studies deal with runtime issues in transport models, there is less research with respect of agent-based, integrated land-use transport (ILUT) models. This paper examines how the transport model interval in an ILUT model suite affects runtime and results. In addition, the possibility of scaling the synthetic population, which is a common approach in agent-based transport models, is tested on the land-use side. Results suggest that transport models do not necessarily need to run every one or two years and larger intervals like five years lead to similar results. However, if intervals are too long, there error of estimated travel times in the years between transport model updates become larger. Scaling the land-use population does not result in large reductions of runtimes if the transport model population is kept uniform. Thus, scaling the land-use model population can be used to actually model every agent individually in the transport model. On the other hand, if the transport model population is scaled down with respect of the land use model, runtimes can be improved. In both cases, the results of the land use model appear to be stable in when using smaller population sub-samples, as far as the resolution of the analysis is not too small. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) has been gaining substantial momentum in recent years. However, the vast amount of literature sources results in a wide range of applied tools and datasets, assumed methodology to investigate the potential impacts of future CAVs traffic, and, consequently, differences in the obtained findings. Reverse auction theory is the basis for competitive construction bidding process. The lowest bid method is utilized for selecting contractors in public projects. The winning contractor having the lowest bid value could be cursed when the submitted bid value results in negative profits. This is caused by many factors such as the contractor's estimation accuracy and markup. This is addressed in this paper by providing a model simulating the construction competitive bidding and the occurrence of the winner's curse. To this end, the authors show the extent to which the winner's curse affects the status of contracting companies. The objectives are to understand the characteristics of the competitive bidding phase in construction and to study the behavior of contractors subject to competitive bidding and the occurrence of the winner's curse. As such, the authors implemented a two-step methodology that incorporates (1) developing a general simulation model involving a population of contractors and projects using agent-based modeling for the competitive bidding process and (2) analyzing the results of the simulation model. Inspection and preservation of the aging bridges to extend their service life has been recognized as one of the important tasks of the State Departments of Transportation. Yet manual inspection procedure is not efficient to determine the safety status of the bridges in order to facilitate the implementation of appropriate maintenance. In this paper, a complex model involving a remotely controlled robotic platform is proposed to inspect the safety status of the bridges which will eliminate labor-intensive inspection. Mobile cameras from unmanned airborne vehicles (UAV) are used to collect bridge inspection data in order to record the periodic changes of bridge components. All the UAVs are controlled via a control station and continuously feed image data to a deep learning-based detection algorithm to analyze the data to detect critical structural components. A cellular automata-based pattern recognition algorithm is used to find the pattern of structural damage. A simulation model is developed to validate the proposed method by knowing the frequency and time required for each task involved in bridge inspection and maintenance. The effectiveness of the model is demonstrated by simulating the bridge inspection and maintenance with the proposed model for five years in AnyLogic. Abstract: Wireless sensors networks (WSNs) are traditionally composed of large number of low-cost and tiny homogenous sensors nodes connected through a wireless network that gather data to be treated locally or relayed to the sink node through multi-hop wireless transmission. Moreover, such issues are very critical due servers resources constraints like efficient energy, stock limitation and lifetime of network. Several solutions were proposed to minimize the traffic into network. Clustering algorithms have been widely used to reduce energy consumption. In this context, the key point in such topology is to select a cluster. One of solutions is to select a cluster alternately. However, this choice does not consider the energy as important criteria in actual papers. In order to limit energy consumption, our new method is proposed in this paper to optimization Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (O- LEACH) to improve existing LEACH and LEACH-C by selecting cluster according to the residual energy of nodes dynamically. This paper proposes a multiagent model for the microscopic simulation of drivers in a virtual environment. The paper proposes to make a clear distinction between the models of the individuals (the drivers), and of the physical environment in which the agents are located. Abstract: This paper integrates two traditions in taxing theory by constructing a primitive general equilibrium (GE) model which incorporates a public good, and examine the desirability of taxing system to sustain its optimum level.
