The article reports that nurses could take a greater role in reducing clinical risk for patients by responding promptly to patient safety alerts. Researchers evaluated how the alerts were managed in NHS (National Health Service) organisations and whether they resulted in safer practice. They found that the decision about the relevance and dissemination of alerts was often taken by a single individual and that alerts disseminated on paper were frequently unread.
