Autonomous driving involves collaborative data sensing and traffic sign recognition. Emerging artificial intelligence technology has brought tremendous advances to vehicular networks. However, it is challenging to guarantee privacy and security when using traditional centralized machine learning methods for traffic sign recognition. It is urgent to introduce a distributed machine learning approach to protect private data of connected vehicles. In this paper, we propose a local differential privacy-based binary encoding federated learning approach. The binary encoding techniques and random perturbation methods are used in distributed learning scenarios to enhance the efficiency and security of data transmission. For the vehicle layer in this approach, the model is trained locally, and the model parameters are uploaded to the central server through encoding and perturbing. The central server designs the corresponding decoding, correction scheme, and regression statistical method for the received binary string. Then, the model parameters are aggregated and updated in the server and transmitted to the vehicle until the learning model is trained. The performance of the proposed approach is verified using the German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark data set. The simulation results show that the convergence of the approach is better with the increase in the learning cycle. Compared with baseline methods, such as the convolutional neural network, random forest, and backpropagation, the proposed approach achieves higher accuracy in the process of traffic sign recognition, with an increase of 6%. This paper examines the distribution of eigenvalues for a 2 × 2 random confusion matrix used in machine learning evaluation. We also analyze the distributions of the matrix's trace and the difference between the traces of random confusion matrices. Furthermore, we demonstrate how these distributions can be applied to calculate the superiority probability of machine learning models. The economic operation of hydropower stations has the potential to increase water use efficiency. However, there are some challenges, such as the fixed and unchangeable flow characteristic curve of the hydraulic turbines, and the large number of variables in optimal load distribution, which limit the progress of research. In this paper, we propose a new optimal method of the economic operation of hydropower stations based on improved Long Short-Term Memory neural network (I-LSTM) and Random Forest (RF) algorithm. Firstly, in order to accurately estimate the water consumption, the LSTM model's hyperparameters are optimized using improved particle swarm optimization, and the I-LSTM method is proposed to fit the flow characteristic curve of the hydraulic turbines. Secondly, the Random Forest machine learning algorithm is introduced to establish a load-distribution model with its powerful feature extraction and learning ability. To improve the accuracy of the load-distribution model, we use the K-means algorithm to cluster the historical data and optimize the parameters of the Random Forest model. A Hydropower Station in China is selected for a case study. It is shown that (1) the I-LSTM method fits the operating characteristics under various working conditions and actual operating characteristics of hydraulic turbines, ensuring that they are closest to the actual operating state; (2) the I-LSTM method is compared with Support Vector Machine (SVM), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Long Short-Term Memory neural network (LSTM). The prediction results of SVM have a large error, but compared with ELM and LSTM, MSE is reduced by about 46% and 38% respectively. MAE is reduced by about 25% and 21%, respectively. RMSE is reduced by about 27% and 24%, respectively; (3) the RF algorithm performs better than the traditional dynamic programming algorithm in load distribution. With the passage of time and the increase in training samples, the prediction accuracy of the Random Forest model has steadily improved, which helps to achieve optimal operation of the units, reducing their average total water consumption by 1.24%. This study provides strong support for the application of intelligent low-consumption optimization strategies in hydropower fields, which can bring higher economic benefits and resource savings to renewable energy production. This study focuses on estimating the lead times of various processes in wind tower factories. Accurate estimation of these times allows for more efficient sequencing of activities, proper allocation of resources, and setting of realistic delivery dates, thus avoiding delays and bottlenecks in the production flow and improving process quality and efficiency. In addition, accurate estimation of these times contributes to a proper assessment of costs, overcoming the limitations of traditional techniques; this allows for the establishment of tighter quotations. The data used in this study were collected at wind tower manufacturing facilities in Spain and Brazil. Data preprocessing was conducted rigorously, encompassing cleaning, transformation, and feature selection processes. Following preprocessing, machine learning regression analysis was performed to estimate lead times. Nine algorithms were employed: decision trees, random forest, Ridge regression, Lasso regression, Elastic Net, support vector regression, gradient boosting, XGBoost, LightGBM, and multilayer perceptron. Additionally, the performance of two deep learning models, TabNet and NODE, designed specifically for tabular data, was evaluated. The results showed that gradient boosting-based algorithms were the most effective in predicting processing times and optimizing resource allocation. Lower back pain (LBP) is a musculoskeletal condition that affects millions of people worldwide and significantly limits their mobility and daily activities. Appropriate ergonomics and exercise are crucial preventive measures that play a vital role in managing and reducing the risk of LBP. Individuals with LBP often exhibit spinal anomalies, which can serve as valuable indicators for early diagnosis. We propose an advanced machine learning methodology for LBP detection that incorporates data balancing and bootstrapping techniques. Leveraging the features associated with spinal anomalies, our method offers a promising approach for the early detection of LBP. Our study utilizes a standard dataset comprising 310 patient records, including spinal anomaly features. We propose an ensemble method called the random forest gradient boosting XGBoost Ensemble (RGXE), which integrates the combined power of the random forest, gradient boosting, and XGBoost methods for LBP detection. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ensemble method, RGXE Voting, outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving a high accuracy of 0.99. We fine-tuned each method and validated its performance using k-fold cross-validation in addition to determining the computational complexity of the methods. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) play a crucial role in safeguarding network infrastructures from cyber threats and ensuring the integrity of highly sensitive data. Conventional IDS technologies, although successful in achieving high levels of accuracy, frequently encounter substantial model bias. This bias is primarily caused by imbalances in the data and the lack of relevance of certain features. This study aims to tackle these challenges by proposing an advanced machine learning (ML) based IDS that minimizes misclassification errors and corrects model bias. As a result, the predictive accuracy and generalizability of the IDS are significantly improved. The proposed system employs advanced feature selection techniques, such as Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), sequential feature selection (SFS), and statistical feature selection, to refine the input feature set and minimize the impact of non-predictive attributes. In addition, this work incorporates data resampling methods such as Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique and Edited Nearest Neighbor (SMOTE_ENN), Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN), and Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique–Tomek Links (SMOTE_Tomek) to address class imbalance and improve the accuracy of the model. The experimental results indicate that our proposed model, especially when utilizing the random forest (RF) algorithm, surpasses existing models regarding accuracy, precision, recall, and F Score across different data resampling methods. Using the ADASYN resampling method, the RF model achieves an accuracy of 99.9985% for botnet attacks and 99.9777% for Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach in dealing with imbalanced data distributions. This research not only improves the abilities of IDS to identify botnet and MITM attacks but also provides a scalable and efficient solution that can be used in other areas where data imbalance is a recurring problem. This study investigates how missing data samples in continuous blood glucose data affect the prediction of postprandial hypoglycemia, which is crucial for diabetes management. We analyzed the impact of missing samples at different times before meals using two datasets: virtual patient data and real patient data. The study uses six commonly used machine learning models under varying conditions of missing samples, including custom and random patterns reflective of device failures and arbitrary data loss, with different levels of data removal before mealtimes. Additionally, the study explored different interpolation techniques to counter the effects of missing data samples. The research shows that missing samples generally reduce the model performance, but random forest is more robust to missing samples. The study concludes that the adverse effects of missing samples can be mitigated by leveraging complementary and informative non-point features. Consequently, our research highlights the importance of strategically handling missing data, selecting appropriate machine learning models, and considering feature types to enhance the performance of postprandial hypoglycemia predictions, thereby improving diabetes management. Airport service quality ratings found on social media such as Airline Quality and Google Maps offer invaluable insights for airport management to improve their quality of services. However, there is currently a lack of research analysing these reviews by airport services using sentimental analysis approaches. This research applies multiclass models based on Aspect-Based Sentimental Analysis to conduct a comprehensive analysis of travellers' reviews, in which the major airport services are tagged by positive, negative, and non-existent sentiments. Seven airport services commonly utilised in previous studies are also introduced. Subsequently, various Deep Learning architectures and Machine Learning classification algorithms are developed, tested, and compared using data collected from Twitter, Google Maps, and Airline Quality, encompassing travellers' feedback on airport service quality. The results show that the traditional Machine Learning algorithms such as the Random Forest algorithm outperform Deep Learning models in the multiclass prediction of airport service quality using travellers' feedback. The findings of this study offer concrete justifications for utilising multiclass Machine Learning models to understand the travellers' sentiments and therefore identify airport services required for improvement.
