This paper verified the possibility of applying chitosan and/or ferulic acid or polycaprolactone (PCL)-based coatings to polydimethylsiloxane/neodymium–iron–boron (PDMS/NdFeB) composites using the spin-coating method. The surface modification of magnetic composites by biofunctional layers allows for the preparation of materials for biomedical applications. Biofunctional layered magnetic composites were obtained in three steps. The spin-coating method with various parameters (time and spin speed) was used to apply different substances to the surface of the composites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) were used to analyze the thickness and surface topography. The contact angle of the obtained surfaces was tested. Increasing spin speed and increasing process time for the same speed resulted in decreasing the composite's thickness. The linear and surface roughness for the prepared coatings were approximately 0.2 μm and 0.01 μm, respectively, which are desirable values in the context of biocompatibility. The contact angle test results showed that both the addition of chitosan and PCL to PDMS have reduced the contact angle θ from 105° for non-coated composite to θ~59–88° depending on the coating. Over the last few decades, there has been a growing discourse surrounding environmental and health issues stemming from drinking water and the discharge of effluents into the environment. The rapid advancement of various sewage treatment methodologies has prompted a thorough exploration of promising materials to capitalize on their benefits. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), as porous materials, have garnered considerable attention from researchers in recent years. These materials boast exceptional properties: unparalleled porosity, expansive specific surface areas, unique electronic characteristics including semi-conductivity, and a versatile affinity for organic molecules. These attributes have fueled a spike in research activity. This paper reviews the current MOF-based wastewater removal technologies, including separation, catalysis, and related pollutant monitoring methods, and briefly introduces the basic mechanism of some methods. The scale production problems faced by MOF in water treatment applications are evaluated, and two pioneering methods for MOF mass production are highlighted. In closing, we propose targeted recommendations and future perspectives to navigate the challenges of MOF implementation in water purification, enhancing the efficiency of material synthesis for environmental stewardship. The utilization of triboelectric materials has gained considerable attention in recent years, offering a sustainable approach to energy harvesting and sensing technologies. Surface preparation is an important step in adhesive technology. A variety of abrasive, chemical, or concentrated energy source treatments are used. The effects of these treatments vary due to the variety of factors affecting the final strength of bonded joints. This paper presents the results of an experimental study conducted to determine the feasibility of using fiber laser surface treatments in place of technologically and environmentally cumbersome methods. The effect of surface modification was studied on three materials: aluminum EN AW-1050A and aluminum alloys EN AW-2024 and EN AW-5083. For comparison purposes, joints were made with sandblasted and laser-textured surfaces and those rolled as reference samples for the selected overlap variant, glued with epoxy adhesive. The joints were made with an overlap of 8, 10, 12.5, 14, and 16 mm, and these tests made it possible to demonstrate laser processing as a useful technique to reduce the size of the overlap and achieve even higher load-bearing capacity of the joint compared to sandblasting. A comparative analysis was also carried out for the failure force of the adhesive bond and the failure energy. The results show the efficiency and desirability of using lasers in bonding, allowing us to reduce harmful technologies and reduce the weight of the bonded structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, two flower-like magnesium silicate nanomaterials were prepared. These and another two commercial magnesium silicate materials were characterized using a scanning electron microscope, the N2 adsorption–desorption method, and other methods. The structure–activity relationship between the adsorption performance of these four magnesium silicate materials and their specific surface area, pore size distribution, and pore structure was compared. The results showed that the 3-FMS modified by sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) had the largest specific surface area and pore size, the best adsorption performance, and the largest experimental equilibrium adsorption capacity (qe,exp) for Co2+, reaching 190.01 mg/g, and Cr3+, reaching 208.89 mg/g. The adsorption behavior of the four materials for Co2+ and Cr3+ both fitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption model, indicating that chemical monolayer uniform adsorption was the dominant adsorption process. Among them, the theoretical adsorption capacity (qm) of 3-FMS was the highest, reaching 207.62 mg/g for Co2+ and 230.85 mg/g for Cr3+. Through further research, it was found that the four materials mainly removed Co2+ and Cr3+ through electrostatic adsorption, surface metal ions (Mg2+), and acidic groups (-OH and -SO3H) exchanging with ions in solution. This paper focuses on the preparation and evaluation of a novel humidity-control material, vermiculite/(sodium polyacrylate(AA)–acrylamide(AM)), using inverse suspension polymerization. Acrylic acid and acrylamide were introduced into the interlayer of modified vermiculite during the polymerization process, leading to the formation of a strong association with the modified vermiculite. The addition of vermiculite increased the specific surface area and pore volume of the composites. To investigate the moisture absorption and desorption properties of the composites, an orthogonal experiment and single-factor experiment were conducted to analyze the impacts of vermiculite content, neutralization degree, and the mass ratio of AA to AM. According to the control experiment, the addition of vermiculite was found to enhance the pore structure and surface morphology of the composite material, surpassing both vermiculite and PAA-AM copolymer in terms of humidity control capacity and rate. The optimal preparation conditions were identified as follows: vermiculite mass fraction of 4 wt%, a neutralization degree of 90%, and mAA:mAM = 4:1. The moisture absorption rate and moisture release rate of the composite material prepared under these conditions are 1.285 g/g and 1.172 g/g. The humidity control process of the composite material is governed by pseudo second-order kinetics, which encompasses the complete adsorption process. These results indicate that the vermiculite/PAA-AM composite humidity control material has excellent humidity control performance and is a simple and efficient humidity control method. This paper proposes molecular and supramolecular concepts for potential application in perovskite solar cells. New air-stable symmetrical imine, with thiadiazole moieties PPL2: (5E,6E)-N2,N5-bis(4-(diphenylamino)benzylidene)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diamine), as a hole-transporting material was synthesised in a single-step reaction, starting with commercially available and relatively inexpensive reagents, resulting in a reduction in the cost of the final product compared to Spiro-OMeTAD. Moreover, camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) in both enantiomeric forms was used to change the HOMO-LUMO levels and electric properties of the investigated imine-forming complexes. Electric, optical, thermal, and structural studies of the imine and its complexes with CSA were carried out to characterise the new material. Imine and imine/CSA complexes were also characterised in depth by the proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance 1H NMR method. The position of nitrogen in the thidiazole ring influences the basicity of donor centres, which results in protonation in the imine bond. Simple devices of ITO/imine (with or without CSA(−) or CSA(+))/Ag/ITO architecture were constructed, and a thermographic camera was used to find the defects in the created devices. Electric behaviour was also studied to demonstrate conductivity properties under the forward current. Finally, the electrical properties of imine and its protonated form with CSA were compared with Spiro-OMeTAD. In general, the analysis of thermal images showed a very similar response of the samples to the applied potential in terms of the homogeneity of the formed organic layer. This paper presents a reliability study of a conventional 650 V SiC planar MOSFET subjected to pulsed HTRB (High-Temperature Reverse Bias) stress and negative HTGB (High-Temperature Gate Bias) stress defined by a TCAD static simulation showing the electric field distribution across the SiC/SiO2 interface. The instability of several electrical parameters was monitored and their drift analyses were investigated. Moreover, the shift of the onset of the Fowler–Nordheim gate injection current under stress conditions provided a reliable method to quantify the trapped charge inside the gate oxide bulk, and it allowed us to determine the real stress conditions. Moreover, it has been demonstrated from the cross-correlation, the TCAD simulation, and the experimental ΔVth and ΔVFN variation that HTGB stress is more severe compared to HTRB. In fact, HTGB showed a 15% variation in both ΔVth and ΔVFN, while HTRB showed only a 4% variation in both ΔVth and ΔVFN. The poor performance of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) leads to greater creep in recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) compared to natural aggregate concrete (NAC). To enhance the quality of RCA, this paper utilizes a 2% concentration of a nano-SiO2 (NS) solution for pre-soaking RCA. This study aims to replace natural aggregate (NA) with NS-modified recycled aggregate (SRCA) and investigate the creep and shrinkage properties of NS-modified recycled aggregate concrete (SRAC) at various SRCA replacement rates. Subsequently, the creep and shrinkage strains of NAC, SRAC, and RAC are simulated using the finite element method. Finally, a comparative analysis is conducted with the predicted creep and shrinkage strains from CEB-FIP, ACI, B3, and GL2000 models. The experimental results indicate that the creep and shrinkage deformation of SRAC increases with the SRCA replacement rate. Compared to NAC, the creep and shrinkage deformation of SRAC at replacement rates of 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100% increased by 2%, 7%, 13%, and 30%, respectively. However, when 100% of the natural aggregate is replaced with SRCA, the creep and shrinkage deformation decreases by 7% compared to RAC. In seasonally frozen regions, concrete pavement is exposed to cycles of freeze-thaw and erosion from de-icing salt, which can lead to unfavorable service conditions and vulnerability to damage. This paper examines the compressive strength, flexural-tensile strength, abrasion resistance, permeability, and spacing factor of concrete, taking into account the impact of various curing conditions, de-icing salt solutions, and mass fractions on the concrete's freeze-thaw resistance. Two test methods, the single-face method and the fast-freezing method, were used to comparatively analyze the freeze-thaw resistance of concrete. The analysis was based on the surface scaling, water absorption rate, mass loss rate, relative dynamic elastic modulus, and relative durability index. The results indicate that the presence of salt solution significantly worsened the degree of concrete damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles. The use of freeze-thaw media, specifically sodium chloride ( N a C l ), calcium chloride ( C a C l 2 ), and potassium acetate ( K A c ) at mass fractions of 5%, 4.74%, and 5%, respectively, had the greatest impact on the surface scaling of concrete. However, their effect on the water absorption rate was inconsistent. When the freeze-thaw medium was water, the concrete's relative dynamic elastic modulus and relative durability index were 9.6% and 75.3% higher, respectively, for concrete cured in 20 °C—95% RH conditions compared to those cured in 0 °C—50% RH conditions. We propose a comprehensive relative durability index ( D F w ) by combining the results of two methods of freeze-thaw tests. The D F w of concrete cured in 0 °C—50% RH conditions was 83.8% lower than that of concrete cured in 20 °C—95% RH conditions when exposed to a freeze-thaw medium of 5% mass fraction N a C l solution. One of the most challenging elements of modeling the behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) walls is combining realistic material models that can capture the observable behaviour of the physical system. Experiments with realistic loading rates and pressures reveal that steel and concrete display complicated nonlinear behaviour that is challenging to represent in a single constitutive model. To investigate the response of a reinforced concrete structure subjected to dynamic loads, this paper's study is based on many different material models to assess the advantages and disadvantages of the models on 2D and 3D RC walls using the LS-DYNA program. The models consisted of the KCC model and the CDP model, which represented plasticity and distinct tensile/compressive damage models, and the Winfrith model, which represented plasticity and the smeared crack model. Subsequently, the models' performances were assessed by comparing them to experimental data from reinforced concrete structures, in order to validate the accuracy of the overall behaviour prediction. The Winfrith model demonstrated satisfactory results in predicting the behaviour of 2D and 3D walls, including maximum strength, stiffness deterioration, and energy dissipation. The method accurately predicted the maximum strength of the Winfrith concrete model for the 2D wall with an error of 9.24% and for the 3D wall with errors of 3.28% in the X direction and 5.02% in the Y direction. The Winfrith model demonstrated higher precision in predicting dissipation energy for the 3D wall in both the X and Y directions, with errors of 6.84% and 6.62%, correspondingly. Additional parametric analyses were carried out to investigate structural behaviour, taking into account variables such as concrete strength, strain rate, mesh size, and the influence of the element type. There are some important advantages presented by metal specimens coated with WIP-C1 (Ni/CrC)-type materials. However, given the coating methods and the stress under dynamic loads, there are issues that need to be taken into account, particularly in terms of the behavior at the interface between the two materials. Using standardized cylindrical 1018 steel specimens uniformly coated with WIP-C1 (Ni/CrC) by cold spraying, this study investigated the fatigue behavior of the specimen as a whole, focusing on the interface areas of the two materials. The fatigue life diagram is given, to a large extent, by the behavior of the base material. As a result, in this work, we have focused not so much on the fatigue behavior of the assembly as on the integrity of the coating material and the defects, failures, etc., that may occur at the interface after a certain number of cycles. The applied load was cyclic fatigue through alternating–symmetric cycles. Scanning optical microscopy was used to observe plastic deformations and crack propagation during the breakage process. It was found that both the base material zone and the cover material zone presented good performance when the maximum stresses were at low values. A fatigue durability curve was also plotted, showing a conventional appearance for a metallic material, slightly influenced by the destruction of the base material interface. At higher maximum stress and, consequently, to large strains, a series of destructions at the interface of the two materials, of different types, were observed and will be highlighted in the paper. The exceptional corrosion resistance and combined physical and chemical self-cleaning capabilities of superhydrophobic photocatalytic coatings have sparked significant interest among researchers. In this paper, we propose an economical and eco-friendly superhydrophobic epoxy resin coating that incorporates SiO2@CuO/HDTMS nanoparticles modified with Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS). The application of superhydrophobic coatings effectively reduces the contact area between the metal surface and corrosive media, leading to a decreased corrosion rate. Additionally, the incorporation of nanomaterials, exemplified by SiO2@CuO core–shell nanoparticles, improves the adhesion and durability of the coatings on aluminum alloy substrates. Experimental data from Tafel curve analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirm the superior corrosion resistance of the superhydrophobic modified aluminum alloy surface compared to untreated surfaces. Estimations indicate a significant reduction in corrosion rate after superhydrophobic treatment. Furthermore, an optical absorption spectra analysis of the core–shell nanoparticles demonstrates their suitability for photocatalytic applications, showcasing their potential contribution to enhancing the overall performance of the coated surfaces. During the power operation of the primary loop of a water cooled–water moderated energy reactor (WWER), the water chemistry evolves from a high-boron high-potassium composition to significantly lower concentrations of both constituents at the end of a campaign, and the Li concentration reaches ca. 0.7–0.9 ppm. In the present paper, the effect of primary water chemistry evolution during operation on the corrosion rate and conduction mechanism of oxides on Alloy 690 is studied by in situ impedance spectroscopy at 300 °C/9 MPa during 1-week exposures in an autoclave connected to a re-circulation loop. At the end of exposure, the samples were anodically polarized at potentials −0.8 to −0.1 V vs. SHE to evaluate the stability of the passive oxide. Simultaneously exposed samples of Alloy 690 were subsequently analyzed by XPS to estimate the thickness and in-depth composition of oxides. Impedance data were quantitatively interpreted using the mixed-conduction model (MCM) for oxide films. The effect of water chemistry evolution on the corrosion rate and conduction mechanism in the oxide on Alloy 690 in a primary coolant is discussed based on the obtained parameters. The industrial byproduct gypsum is a general term for byproducts discharged from industrial production with calcium sulfate as the main ingredient. Due to the high number of impurities and production volume, the industrial byproduct gypsum is underutilized, leading to serious environmental problems. At present, only desulfurization gypsum and phosphogypsum have been partially utilized in cementitious materials, cement retarders, etc., while the prospects for the utilization of other byproduct gypsums remain worrying. This paper mainly focuses on the sources and physicochemical properties of various types of gypsum byproducts and summarizes the application scenarios of various gypsums in construction materials. Finally, some suggestions are proposed to solve the problem of the industrial byproduct gypsum. This review is informative for solving the environmental problems caused by gypsum accumulation. S420M steel subjected to strain-controlled low-cycle fatigue does not exhibit a period of cyclic properties stabilization. The maximum stress on a cycle continuously drops until fracture. For this reason, it is difficult to plan experimental research for different types of control in such a way that their results can be considered comparable. The aim of this paper is to present and discuss the results of tests conducted in various conditions of low-cycle fatigue of S420M steel specimens, both undeformed and pre-strained. In both loading conditions, after initial deformation, a significant change in the cyclic properties of steel described by the parameters of the hysteresis loop was observed. Also, the fatigue life of the pre-strained specimens appeared to be different from unstrained specimens and was affected by the test loading conditions. This paper describes hybrid fiber's influence on the crack permeability of cracked concrete exposed to freeze–thaw cycles. A permeability setup and a laser-scanning setup have been designed to measure the crack permeability and the fractured surface roughness of cracked hybrid fiber-reinforced concrete, containing polypropylene fiber and steel fiber, under a splitting tensile load. The results show that, when the effective crack width of the specimens is less than 25 μm, the rough crack surface significantly reduces the concrete's crack permeability. As the crack width increases, the effect of the concrete crack surface on crack permeability gradually decreases, and the crack permeability of the concrete is closer to the Poiseuille flow model. The permeability parameter α derived from the Poiseuille flow model is effective for assessing the crack permeability of concrete. Compared to the modified factor ξ of crack permeability, the permeability parameter α can effectively evaluate and quantify the development trend of crack permeability within a certain range of crack widths. The permeability parameter α of SF20PP2.3, subjected to the same freeze–thaw cycles, decreases by 16.3–94.8% compared to PP4.6 and SF40, and SF20PP2.3 demonstrates a positive synergistic effect on the crack impermeability of cracked concrete. The crack impermeability of SF40PP2.3, subjected to the same freeze–thaw cycles, lies between that of PP6.9 and SF60. The roughness of crack surface (X) and the crack permeability (Y) are highly correlated and follow an exponential curve (Y = 1.0415 × 107·e−6.025·X) in concrete. This demonstrates that hybrid fibers enhance crack impermeability by increasing the crack surface roughness. Furthermore, the combination of polypropylene fiber and steel fiber effectively promotes the formation of micro-cracks and facilitates the propagation of multiple cracks in the concrete matrix. Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) nanostructures have gained significant attention in the fields of catalysis, optoelectronics, and biomedicine due to their unique physicochemical properties. This paper introduces a simple and cost-effective method for producing Bi2S3 microstructures at low temperatures (25 and 70 °C). These microstructures are formed by the hierarchical self-assembly of Bi2S3 nanoparticles, which are typically 15–40 nm in size. The nanoparticles are synthesized by the co-precipitation of thioglycolic acid, thioacetamide, and bismuth nitrate in water. The study delves into the phase composition and morphological evolution of the microstructures, concerning the chemical composition of the solution and the synthesis temperature. X-ray analysis has confirmed the formation of single-phase bismuthinite Bi2S3. The synthesis process generates primary building blocks in the form of 15–40 nm Bi2S3 nanocrystals, which then go through a hierarchical self-assembly process to produce a range of micrometer-sized structures. A scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that the primary nanoparticles self-assemble into quasi-1D worm-like nanostructures, which then self-assemble to create sponge-shaped microstructures. These structures subsequently self-organize and refine into either flower- or dandelion-like microstructures, mostly depending on the synthesis temperature and the chemistry of the digestion medium. Welded steel plates are widely used in various structural applications, and the presence of inclined welds is often encountered in practical scenarios. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been proven to be effective for strengthening steel structures. However, the behavior of CFRP-strengthened welded steel plates with inclined welds, particularly considering the influence of welding residual stress, is limited. This paper aims to investigate the tensile behavior of CFRP-strengthened welded Q355 steel plates with inclined welds considering welding residual stress (WRS). First, WRS data were obtained by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method at different locations. The maximum tensile and compressive residual stresses are 0.39 and 0.14 times the yield strength of the steel, respectively. Then, finite element models were established to investigate the effects of weld angles, weld width, and height on the WRS distribution of welded steel plates. Finally, the tensile performance of CFRP-strengthened welded plates with WRS was studied by numerical simulation. The results showed that the weld angles have little effect on the distribution pattern of residual stress but significantly affect the peak tensile WRS. When the weld angle changes from 0° to 60°, the peak tensile WRS decreases significantly from 0.32 to 0.06 times the yield strength of steel; furthermore, the influence of weld width and height on WRS is relatively limited. Under tension loading, the maximum stress occurs near the weld. The ends of the weld enter the yielding state later than the middle part of the weld due to the distribution of the WRS. As the weld angle increases and the length of the weld increases, the stress in the weld zone decreases, while the stress in the base material zone correspondingly increases. In addition, CFRP strengthening can reduce the magnitude of stress. In recent years, due to the rapid growth of mankind's demand for energy, harmful gases (SOx) produced by the combustion of sulfur-containing compounds in fuel oil have caused serious problems to the ecological environment and human health. Therefore, in order to solve this hidden danger from the source, countries around the world have created increasingly strict standards for the sulfur content in fuel. Adsorption desulfurization technology has attracted wide attention due to its advantages of energy saving and low operating cost. Large-dimension complex integral thin-shell components are widely used in advanced transportation equipment. However, with the dimensional limitations of raw blanks and the manufacturing process, there are inhomogeneous geometric and mechanical properties at welded joints after welding, which have a significant effect on the subsequent forming process. Therefore, in this paper, the microstructure of welded joints with a sharp property change was accurately characterized by the proposed isothermal treatment method using the BR1500HS welded tube as an example. In addition, an accurate constitutive model of welded tubes was established to predict the deformation behavior. Firstly, the heat-treated specimens were subjected to uniaxial tensile tests and the stress–strain curves under different heat treatment conditions were obtained. Then, the continuous change in flow stress in the direction of the base metal zone, the heat-affected zone and the weld zone was described by the relationship between the microhardness, flow stress and center angle of the welded tube. Using such a method, a continuous constitutive model of welded tubes has been established. Finally, the constitutive model was compiled into finite-element software as a user material subroutine (VUHARD). The reliability of the established constitutive model was verified by simulating the free hydro-bulging process of welded tubes. The results indicated that the continuous constitutive model can well describe the deformation response during the free hydro-bulging process, and accurately predicted the equivalent strain distribution and thickness thinning rate. Due to the absence of thermodynamic data concerning the Ag–Mg–Ti system in the existing literature, this study aims to fill this gap by offering the outcomes of calorimetric investigations conducted on ternary liquid solutions of these alloys. The measurements were performed using the drop calorimetry method at temperatures of 1294 K and 1297 K for the liquid solutions with the following constant mole fraction ratio: xAg/xMg = 9/1, 7/3, 1/1, 3/7 [(Ag0.9Mg0.1)1−xTix, (Ag0.7Mg0.3)1−xTix, (Ag0.5Mg0.5)1−xTix, (Ag0.3Mg0.7)1−xTix)], and xAg/xTi = 19/1 [(Ag0.95Ti0.05)1−xMgx]. The results show that the mixing enthalpy change is characterized by negative deviations from the ideal solutions and the observed minimal value equals −13.444 kJ/mol for the Ag0.95Ti0.05 alloy and xMg = 0.4182. Next, based on the thermodynamic properties of binary systems described by the Redlich–Kister model and the determined experimental data from the calorimetric measurements, the ternary optimized parameters for the Ag–Mg–Ti liquid phase were calculated by the Muggianu model. Homemade software (TerGexHm 1.0) was used to optimize the calorimetric data using the least squares method. Next, the partial and molar thermodynamic functions were calculated and are presented in the tables and figures. Moreover, this work presents, for comparative purposes, the values of the enthalpy of mixing of liquid Ag–Mg–Ti alloys, which were calculated using Toop's model. It was found that the best agreement between the modeled and experimental data was observed for the cross-sections xAg/xTi = 19/1 [(Ag0.95Ti0.05)1−xMgx] and xAg/xMg = 9/1 [(Ag0.9Mg0.1)1−xTix]. The results of the experiments presented in this paper are the first step in the investigation and future evaluation of the thermodynamics of phases and the calculation of the phase diagram of the silver–magnesium–titanium system. The issue of wellbore instability poses a significant challenge in the current exploration of shale gas reservoirs. Exploring more efficient shale stabilizers has always been a common goal pursued by researchers. In this paper, a novel shale stabilizer, denoted as ANS, was prepared by employing a silane-coupling modification method to graft (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) onto the surface of nano-silica. The structure of ANS was characterized through Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), and particle size tests (PST). The shale stabilizing properties of ANS were evaluated through tests such as pressure penetration, BET analysis, hydration expansion and dispersion. Furthermore, the interaction between ANS as a shale stabilizer and clay was explored through clay zeta potential and particle size analysis. The results indicated that ANS exhibited a stronger plugging capability compared to nano-silica, as evidenced by its ability to increase the shale pressure penetration time from 19 to 131 min. Moreover, ANS demonstrated superior hydration inhibition compared to commonly used KCl. Specifically, it reduced the expansion height of bentonite from 8.04 to 3.13 mm and increased the shale recovery rate from 32.84% to 87.22%. Consequently, ANS played a dual role in providing dense plugging and effective hydration inhibition, contributing significantly to the enhancement of wellbore stability in drilling operations. In the heat insulation winding molding process of solid rocket motors, the pressure applied by the press roller directly affects the quality of the winding molding. Insufficient pressure can result in poor bonding quality and may cause defects. This paper aims to provide an optimal design of the press roller to improve the winding molding quality of the heat insulation. The effect of the cylindrical press roller on the pressure distribution was analyzed using the elastic foundation model and a finite element (FE) model, which was assessed by Hertz theory. Subsequently, the press roller was optimized to an elliptical concave design. The effect of the radius of the elliptical concave press roller on the pressure distribution was analyzed. A comparison of the effect of the elliptical concave press roller and the cylindrical press roller on the pressure distribution was conducted using the FE model. The results show pressure uniformity is significantly improved when the elliptical concave press roller is employed on the mandrel with the smallest radius. Additionally, the elliptical concave press roller increases the pressure at the edge of the tape, which reduces the risk of lifted edges and, thereby, improves the winding molding quality of the heat insulation. In the restoration or rehabilitation of traditional buildings, compatible materials with known characteristics must be used. However, the existing literature lacks comprehensive studies on the characterisation of Persian mud–straw plaster, focusing primarily on Persian adobe. Moreover, previous research on Persian adobe has primarily employed XRF and XRD tests, neglecting ion chromatography, moisture sorption isotherm determination, and thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry. Consequently, there is a shortage of information regarding the elemental composition, mineralogical characteristics, moisture sorption behaviour, and thermal properties of Persian mud–straw plaster, as well as Persian adobe bricks. This paper aims to address this research gap by examining historical and new adobe bricks and mud–straw plaster used in Iran, utilising a comprehensive array of analytical techniques. The results from XRF analysis reveal relatively similar chemical compositions across all samples, while XRD analysis indicates predominantly similar mineral phases. Ion chromatography results demonstrate higher conductivity and chloride concentrations in the mud–straw samples than the adobe samples, with higher values for new samples than historical ones. Freshly used straw, clay, or soil may have higher chloride concentrations caused by the arid climate and soil salinisation in the area. Additionally, moisture sorption isotherm determination results show that adobe and mud–straw plaster with a higher salt load of chlorides have significantly higher moisture absorption. The increased straw quantity in the samples increases the moisture content. Furthermore, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry indicate that, at low heating, adobe and mud–straw plaster lose water due to dehydration, and at high heating, they lose carbon dioxide due to decarboxylation. The comprehensive characterisation of Persian adobe and mud–straw plaster in this study fills a significant gap in the literature and offers invaluable insights for informing restoration and rehabilitation processes, ensuring the compatibility of the materials used. In the context of green and low-carbon development, energy saving, and emission reduction, hot recycling technology (RT) has been researched, which is divided into hot central plant RT and hot in-place RT. However, due to the aged asphalt binders, the shortcomings of hot recycled asphalt mixtures have become apparent, as in comparison to new asphalt mixtures, their resistance to cracking was inferior and the cracking resistance deteriorated more rapidly. Therefore, it was very necessary to focus on the improvement of crack resistance of hot recycled asphalt mixtures. Basalt fiber has been proved to be able to effectively improve the comprehensive road performance of new asphalt mixtures. Therefore, this paper introduced basalt fiber to hot central plant recycled and hot in-place recycled asphalt mixtures, in order to improve the crack resistance of asphalt as a new type of fiber stabilizer. Firstly, six types of SMA-13 fiber asphalt mixtures were designed and prepared, i.e., hot mixtures with basalt fiber or lignin fiber, hot central plant recycled mixtures with basalt fiber or lignin fiber, and hot in-place recycled mixtures with basalt fiber or lignin fiber. Secondly, the trabecular bending test, low-temperature creep test, semi-circular bending test, and IDEAL-CT were used to comparatively study the changing patterns of low and intermediate temperature cracking resistance of hot recycled mixtures with conventional lignin fibers or basalt fibers. Finally, Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation of the different cracking resistance indicators. The results show that the low and intermediate temperature cracking resistance of hot central plant recycled mixtures increased by 45.6% (dissipative energy ratio, Wd/Ws) and 74.8% (flexibility index, FI), respectively. And the corresponding cracking resistance of hot in-place recycled mixture increased by 105.4% (Wd/Ws) and 55.7% (FI). The trabecular bending test was more suitable for testing the low-temperature cracking resistance of hot recycled asphalt mixtures, while the IDEAL-CT was more suitable for testing the intermediate-temperature cracking resistance. Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) both represent significant concerns in environmental sciences. This paper aims to develop a convenient and efficient methodology for the detection and measurement of MPs and nanoparticles from surface seawater and to apply it to the water samples collected from the UNESCO site of Venice and its lagoon, more precisely in the Venice-Lido Port Inlet, Grand Canal under Rialto Bridge, and Saint Marc basin. In this study, MPs were analyzed through optical microscopy for their relative abundance and characterized based on their color, shape, and size classes, while the concentration and the mean of nanoparticles were estimated via the Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis technique. Bulk seawater sampling, combined with filtration through a cascade of stainless-steel sieves and subsequent digestion, facilitates the detection of MPs of relatively small sizes (size classes distribution: >1 mm, 1000–250 μm, 250–125 μm, 125–90 μm, and 90–32 μm), similar to the size of MPs ingested by marine invertebrates and fishes. A protocol for minimizing interference from non-plastic nanoparticles through evaporation, digestion, and filtration processes was proposed to enrich the sample for NPs. The findings contribute to the understanding of the extent and characteristics of MPs and nanoparticle pollution in the Venice Lagoon seawater, highlighting the potential environmental risks associated with these pollutants and the need for coordinated approaches to mitigate them. In this paper, a one-step hot extrusion dual-stage solution treatment method is employed to fabricate high-strength and tough T-shaped complex cross-section 7055 (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr) alloy profiles, and a detailed investigation is conducted on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The results indicate that the comprehensive mechanical properties of the 7055 aluminum extruded alloy using the two-stage solution aging treatment are excellent. This is particularly evident in the balance between strength and ductility, where outstanding strength is accompanied by a plasticity that is maintained at 13.2%. During the extrusion process, the deformation textures are mainly composed of brass and copper, forming a 15.1% recrystallization texture Cube. In addition, the equilibrium phase η(MgZn2) precipitated in the grain is the main strengthening phase, and there are large discontinuous grain boundary precipitates at the grain boundary, which hinders the grain boundary dislocation movement and has great influence on the mechanical properties of alloy materials. Retrogression and re-aging (RRA) treatment has been proven to effectively overcome the trade-off between strength and corrosion resistance. Current research focuses on the heating rate, temperature, and holding time of retrogression treatment while ignoring the retrogression cooling ways. In this paper, the effects of RRA treatment with different retrogression cooling ways on the microstructure and properties of newly developed T'/η' strengthened Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys were investigated by performing tests on mechanical properties, intergranular corrosion (IGC) resistance, and electrochemical corrosion behavior. The results show that the mechanical properties of samples subject to RRA treatment with water-quenching retrogression (ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of 419.2 MPa, 370.2 MPa, and 15.9, respectively) are better than those of air-cooled and furnace-cooled samples. The corrosion resistance of water-quenching (IGC depth of 162.2 μm, corrosion current density of 0.833 × 10−5 A/cm2) and furnace-cooled samples (IGC depth of 123.7 μm, corrosion current density of 0.712 × 10−5 A/cm2) is better than that of air-cooled samples. Microstructure characterization reveals that the effect of the retrogression cooling rate on mechanical properties is related to the size of T'/η' precipitates with grains as well as the proportion of T' and η', while the difference in corrosion resistance depends on the continuity of grain boundary precipitates (GBPs). With mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and time cost taken into consideration, it is appropriate to select water quenching for retrogression. Oxide Dispersion Strengthened (ODS) ferritic steels are promising materials for the nuclear power sector. This paper presents the results of a study on the sintering process using the Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) technique, focusing on ODS ferritic steel powders with different contents (0.3 and 0.6 vol.%) of Y2O3. The novelty lies in the analysis of the effect of pre-annealing treatment on powders previously prepared by mechanical alloying on the microstructure, mechanical, and thermal properties of the sinters. Using the SPS method, it was possible to obtain well-densified sinters with a relative density above 98%. Pre-annealing the powders resulted in an increase in the relative density of the sinters and a slight increase in their thermal conductivity. The use of low electron energies during SEM analysis allowed for a fairly good visualization of the reinforcing oxides uniformly dispersed in the matrix. Analysis of the Mössbauer spectroscopy results revealed that pre-annealing induces local atomic rearrangements within the solid solution. In addition, there was an additional spectral component, indicating the formation of a Cr-based paramagnetic phase. The ODS material with a higher Y2O3 content showed increased Vickers hardness values, as well as increased Young's modulus and nanohardness, as determined by nanoindentation tests. This paper describes the effects of macro fibers on permeability and crack surface topography of layered fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) specimens with different layering ratios under uniaxial tensile load. The crack permeability of layered FRC specimens is investigated by a self-designed permeability setup. The topographical analysis of crack surfaces is investigated by a custom-designed laser scanning setup. The results show that when the fiber volume content and layering ratio of the FRC layer are constant, the tensile toughness of layered FRC specimens depends on the proportion of steel fiber in macro fibers, and with an increase in the proportion of steel fiber, the tensile toughness of layered FRC specimens increases. For the layered FRC specimens, the crack permeability is much lower than that of the normal concrete (NC) specimen. A significant positive synergistic effect on crack impermeability can be achieved by the combination of steel fiber and polypropylene fiber in the SF80PP2.3 specimen. The crack surface roughness parameter (Rn) values of the NC layer in layered FRC specimens are all higher than those of the NC specimen, and the crack surface Rn of the FRC layer in layered FRC specimens is higher than that of the unlayered FRC specimens. PC/ABS composites are commonly used in airbag covers. In this paper, uniaxial tensile experiments of a PC/ABS composite at different temperatures and strain rates were conducted. The results showed that the temperature and loading rate affect the mechanical properties of the PC/ABS composite. As the temperature increases, the yield stress decreases and the strain at the moment of fracture increases, but the strain rate at the same temperature has a relatively small effect on the mechanical properties, which are similar to ductile materials. The experimental results were applied to the Abaqus model which considered thermal effects and the exact Johnson–Cook constitutive parameters were calculated by applying the inverse method. Based on the constitutive model and the failure analysis findings acquired by DIC, the uniaxial tensile test at the room temperature and varied strain rates were simulated and compared to the test results, which accurately reproduced the test process. The experiment on target plate intrusion of the PC/ABS composite was designed, and a finite-element model was established to simulate the experimental process. Bridge cable wires suffer from alternating stress and environmental erosion, leading to premature failure prior to its design life. This paper investigates the fatigue and mechanical behaviors of corroded bridge cable wires with a zinc–aluminum (Zn-Al) alloy coating. Based on the salt spray corrosion test and microstructure analysis, the anti-corrosion resistance and corrosion appearance characteristics of the Zn-Al alloy coating and galvanized coating were investigated. The Zn-Al alloy coating was superior in resistance to corrosion fatigue for the improvement in toughness and the generation of anti-corrosion Zn-Al and Fe-Zn-Al phases. Equations of the accelerated corrosion depth of the steel wires had been regressed to roughly estimate the corrosion life of the Zn-Al alloy coating, which can reach 29.1 years with a thickness of 70 μm. The fatigue and mechanical properties of the bare wires after the salt spray test were further studied based on tensile tests and fatigue tests. The fatigue properties of the bridge cable wire would decrease with the corrosion degree due to the deterioration and embrittlement of materials, where ductility characterized by the elongation rate was the most affected. Fracture surfaces of the wires were captured and analyzed based on a method for recognizing graphical contours. Insufficient fatigue life may occur in the steel wires after corrosion and increase with the degree of corrosion. The pit depth logarithmically weakened the fatigue life of steel wires for the weakening of fatigue toughness and the bearing area. The flat fracture was more common with a single fatigue source, while multiple fatigue sources led to step-like fractures for the generation of multiple dispersed crack propagation regions. Corrosion fatigue was more sensitive to the existence of fatigue sources than the reduction. Multiple initiation sources significantly reduced the fatigue life due to the cracking facilitation of the joint effect of multiple pits. The foundation ring (FR) is a steel component embedded within the concrete of a wind turbine foundation, playing a pivotal role in connecting the wind turbine tower to the foundation structure. In this paper, the FR–foundation connection is equivalent to the exposed foundation and the shallow foundation by analyzing the anchorage characteristics of the foundation ring. Based on the ABAQUS concrete damaged plasticity model, full-scale modeling of the wind turbine foundation is carried out. The influence of embedment depth, ring radius and base flange width of the foundation ring on moment capacity is simulated. Based on the observed stress distributions under ultimate loads, analytical expressions were proposed to estimate the variation law of anchorage load-bearing capacity in the ultimate load state. Compared with the numerical simulation, the average errors under different influencing factors are 8.2%, 9.6% and 10.8%, respectively. The results indicate that the base flange provided the majority of the moment capacity, though the contribution of the sidewall increased to 25–50% that of the base flange in later stages. To study the effects of basalt fibers (BFs), calcium sulfate whiskers (CSWs), and modified calcium sulfate whiskers (MCSWs) on the compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete, this paper utilizes Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) to measure the microstructure of concrete and calculate the fractal dimension of pore surface area. The results indicate that both CSWs and BFs can increase the compressive strength of concrete. CSWs can enhance the dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete, while the effect of BFs on the dynamic modulus of elasticity is not significant. The improvement in compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity provided by MCSWs is significantly greater than that provided by CSWs. Both CSWs and BFs can effectively improve the pore structure of concrete and have a significant impact on the surface fractal dimension. CSWs inhibit the formation of ink-bottle pores, while BFs increase the number of ink-bottle pores. Due to the ink-bottle pore effect, the fractal dimension of the capillary pore surface is generally greater than three, lacking fractal characteristics. The spectral and spatial characteristics of Acousto-Optic Tunable Filters (AOTFs), such as a tuning curve, spectral resolution, angular aperture, and diffraction efficiency, are determined by the device's acousto-optic crystal configuration and piezoelectric transducer. For high-throughput spectral imaging applications, it is essential to enlarge the spectral bandwidth and angular aperture during the design phase of AOTFs. Thus, phase mismatch due to incident angle or wavelength was studied analytically using phase diagrams in this paper. Additionally, a performance parameter analysis model was established based on the use of mercurous bromide crystals for large angular aperture AOTF device design, and the impact of crystal and transducer design parameters on the spectral bandwidth and angular aperture was evaluated. This paper proposes a local resonance-type pentagonal phononic crystal beam structure for practical engineering applications to achieve better vibration and noise reduction. The energy band, transmission curve, and displacement field corresponding to the vibration modes of the structure are calculated based on the finite element method and Bloch-Floquet theorem. Furthermore, an analysis is conducted to understand the mechanism behind the generation of bandgaps. The numerical analysis indicates that the pentagonal unit oscillator creates a low-frequency bandgap between 60–70 Hz and 107–130 Hz. Additionally, the pentagonal phononic crystal double-layer beam structure exhibits excellent vibration damping, whereas the single-layer beam has poor vibration damping. The article comparatively analyzes the effects of different parameters on the bandgap range and transmission loss of a pentagonal phononic crystal beam. For instance, increasing the thickness of the lead layer leads to an increase in the width of the bandgap. Similarly, increasing the thickness of the rubber layer, intermediate plate, and total thickness of the phononic crystals results in a bandgap at lower frequencies. The microstructures and mechanical properties of equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloys (HEAs) treated with various processing parameters of laser surface heat treatment are studied in this paper. The typical inverse gradient-grained structure, which is composed of a hard central layer and a soft surface layer, can be obtained by laser surface heat treatment. A much narrower gradient layer leads to the highest yield strength by sacrificing ductility when the surface temperature of the laser-irradiated region remains at ~850 °C, whereas the fully recrystallized microstructure, which exists from the top surface layer to the ~1.05 mm depth layer, increases the ductility but decreases the yield strength as the maximum heating temperature rises to ~1050 °C. Significantly, the superior strength–ductility combination can be acquired by controlling the surface temperature of a laser-irradiated surface at ~1000 °C with a scanning speed of ~4 mm/s due to the effect of hetero-deformation-induced strengthening and hardening, as well as the enhanced interaction between dislocation and nanotwins by the hierarchical nanotwins. Therefore, retaining the partial recrystallized microstructure with a relatively high microhardness in the central layer, promoting the generation of hierarchical nanotwins, and increasing the volume proportion of gradient layer can effectively facilitate the inverse gradient-grained CoCrFeMnNi HEAs to exhibit a desirable strength–ductility synergy. In this paper, La2Ce2O7 powders co-activated by Ho3+ and Yb3+ were synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction. Both Ho3+ and Yb3+ substitute the La3+ sites in the La2Ce2O7 lattice, where the Ho3+ concentration is 0.5 at.% and the Yb3+ concentration varies in the range of 10~18% at.%. Pumped by a 980 nm laser, the up-conversion (UC) green emission peak at 547 nm and the red emission at 661 nm were detected. When the doping concentration of Ho3+ and Yb3+ are 0.5 at.% and 14% at.%, respectively, the UC emission reaches the strongest intensity. The temperature-sensing performance of La2Ce2O7:Ho3+ with Yb3+ was studied in the temperature range of 303–483 K, where the highest relative sensitivity (Sr) is 0.0129 K−1 at 483 K. This paper presents the extraction of zinc ions from waste resulting from the galvanic industry, such as sludge from acid zinc electroplating baths, and their revaluation in mineral fertilizer as zinc–ammonium phosphate. The purpose of this work is to extract zinc ions from the sludge that forms directly in the zinc bath, which can only contain zinc and small amounts of iron, to revalorize zinc into the form of zinc–ammonium phosphate. The process of obtaining zinc–ammonium phosphate is presented using waste sludge from the galvanic industry. In order to obtain zinc–ammonium phosphate, the solution resulting from the dissolution of the sludge with a 20% hydrochloric acid solution was used in reaction with diammonium phosphate and a 25% ammonia solution. After the chemical analysis of the obtained products, zinc–ammonium phosphate was characterized using X-ray powder diffraction, infrared FT-IR spectroscopy and electronic microscopy (SEM) analysis. Plasmas are reactive ionised gases, which enable the creation of unique reaction fields. This allows plasmas to be widely used for a variety of chemical processes for materials, recycling among others. Because of the increase in urgency to find more sustainable methods of waste management, plasmas have been enthusiastically applied to recycling processes. This review presents recent developments of plasma technologies for recycling linked to economical models of circular economy and waste management hierarchies, exemplifying the thermal decomposition of organic components or substances, the recovery of inorganic materials like metals, the treatment of paper, wind turbine waste, and electronic waste. It is discovered that thermal plasmas are most applicable to thermal processes, whereas nonthermal plasmas are often applied in different contexts which utilise their chemical selectivity. Austenitic stainless steels are very popular due to their high strength properties, ductility, excellent corrosion resistance and work hardening. This paper presents the test results for joining AISI 316Ti austenitic steel. The technologies used for joining were the most popular welding techniques such as TIG (welding with a non-consumable electrode in the shield of inert gases), MIG (welding with a consumable electrode in the shield of inert gases) as well as high-energy EBW welding (Electron Beam Welding) and plasma PAW (plasma welding). Microstructural examinations in the face, center and root areas of the weld revealed different contents of delta ferrite with skeletal or lathy ferrite morphology. Additionally, the presence of columnar grains at the fusion line and equiaxed grains in the center of the welds was found. Microstructural, X-ray and ferroscope tests showed the presence of different delta ferrite contents depending on the technology used. The highest content of delta ferrite was found in the TIG and PAW connectors, approximately 5%, and the lowest in the EBW connector, approximately 2%. Based on the tests carried out on the mechanical properties, it was found that the highest properties were achieved by the MIG joint (Rm, 616, Rp0.2 = 335 MPa), while the lowest were achieved by the PAW joint (Rm = 576, Rp0.2 = 315 MPa). In the quest to enhance the mechanical properties of CuP alloys, particularly focusing on the Cu3P phase, this study introduces a comprehensive investigation into the effects of various alloying elements on the alloy's performance. In this paper, the first principle of density universal function theory and the projection-enhanced wave method under VASP 5.4.4 software are used to recalculate the lattice constants, evaluate the lattice stability, and explore the mechanical properties of selected doped elements such as In, Si, V, Al, Bi, Nb, Sc, Ta, Ti, Y and Zr, including shear, stiffness, compression, and plasticity. The investigation reveals that strategic doping with In and Si significantly enhances shear resistance and stiffness, while V addition notably augments compressive resistance. Furthermore, incorporating Al, Bi, Nb, Sc, Ta, Ti, V, Y, and Zr has substantially improved plasticity, indicating a broad spectrum of mechanical enhancement through precise alloying. Crucially, the validation of our computational models is demonstrated through hardness experiments on Si and Sn-doped specimens, corroborating the theoretical predictions. Additionally, a meticulous analysis of the states' density further confirms our computational approach's accuracy and reliability. This study highlights the potential of targeted alloying to tailor the mechanical properties of Cu3P alloys and establishes a robust theoretical framework for predicting the effects of doping in metallic alloys. The findings presented herein offer valuable insights and a novel perspective on material design and optimization, marking a significant stride toward developing advanced materials with customized mechanical properties. This paper presents studies on the influence of the chemical structure of (meth)acrylic monomers on the properties of powder coatings based on polyacrylate resins. For this purpose, a wide range of monomers were selected—2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), n-butyl acrylate (nBA), tert-butyl acrylate (tBA), dodecyl acrylate (DA), ethyl acrylate (EA) and benzyl acrylate (BAZ)—for the synthesis of the polyacrylate resin. The average molecular mass and molecular mass distribution of the synthesized resins were measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The glass transition temperature (Tg) and viscosity of polyacrylate resins were determined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a Brookfield viscometer. These parameters were necessary to obtain information about storage stability and behavior during the application of powder clear coatings. Additionally, DSC was also used to checked the course of the low-temperature curing reaction between the hydroxyl group contained in the polyacrylate resin and the blocked polyisocyanate group derived from a commercial agent such as Vestanat B 1358/100. The properties of the cured powder clear coatings were tested, such as: roughness, gloss, adhesion to the steel surface, hardness, cupping, scratch resistance, impact resistance and water contact angle. The best powder clear coating based on the polyacrylate resin L_HEMA/6MMA/0.5nBA/0.5DA was characterized as having good scratch resistance (550 g) and adhesion to the steel surface, a high water contact angle (93.53 deg.) and excellent cupping (13.38 mm). Moreover, its crosslinking density (CD) and its thermal stability was checked by using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New composites produced with recycled waste are needed to manufacture more sustainable construction materials. This paper aimed to analyze the hygrothermal and mechanical performance of plasterboard with a polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) content, incorporating recycled PET microplastic waste and varying factors such as PMHS dose, homogenization time, and drying temperature after setting. A cube-centered experimental design matrix was performed. The crystal morphology, porosity, fluidity, water absorption, flexural strength, and thermal conductivity of plasterboards were measured. The results showed that incorporating recycled PET microplastics does not produce a significant difference in the absorption and flexural strength of plasterboards. Aqueous zinc–iodine batteries are considered to be one of the most promising devices for future electrical energy storage due to their low cost, high safety, high theoretical specific capacity, and multivalent properties. However, the shuttle effect currently faced by zinc–iodine batteries causes the loss of cathode active material and corrosion of the zinc anodes, limiting the large-scale application of zinc–iodine batteries. In this paper, the electrochemical processes of iodine conversion and the zinc anode, as well as the induced mechanism of the shuttle effect, are introduced from the basic configuration of the aqueous zinc–iodine battery. Then, the inhibition strategy of the shuttle effect is summarized from four aspects: the design of cathode materials, electrolyte regulation, the modification of the separator, and anode protection. Finally, the current status of aqueous zinc–iodine batteries is analyzed and recommendations and perspectives are presented. Many countries banned asbestos due to its toxicity, but considering its colossal use, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, disposing of waste containing asbestos is the current problem. Today, many asbestos disposal technologies are known, but they usually involve colossal investment and operating expenses, and the end- and by-products of these methods negatively impact the environment. This paper identifies a unique modern direction in detoxifying asbestos minerals, which involves using microorganisms and plants and their metabolites. The work comprehensively focuses on the interactions between asbestos and plants, bacteria and fungi, including lichens and, for the first time, yeast. Biological treatment is a prospect for in situ land reclamation and under industrial conditions, which can be a viable alternative to landfilling and an environmentally friendly substitute or supplement to thermal, mechanical, and chemical methods, often characterized by high cost intensity.
