Accessible Summary: What is known on the subject: Because of increasingly stressful, dangerous and unpredictable psychiatric nursing work, psychiatric nurses have experienced higher job stress than general ward nurses.Little is known about the factors that affect the turnover intention of Chinese psychiatric nurses. Understanding the influencing factors of nurses' turnover intention will help to formulate targeted measures to stabilize psychiatric nursing teams. What does this paper add to existing knowledge: The results showed that 70.2% of psychiatric nurses had higher turnover intention. The strong turnover intention of Chinese psychiatric nurses is a problem that needs to be considered by managers.The results showed that having more children, between 31 and 39 years old, and having a part‐time job were strongly associated with turnover intention. In addition, "job stress" was also an important factor, psychiatric nurses' turnover intention decreased as their job stress level decreased. What are the implications for practice: Nursing managers should pay attention to nurses who have more children, between 31 and 39 years old, and take on part‐time jobs. Additionally, nursing managers should reduce job stress and implement targeted programmes to prevent psychiatric nurses' turnover.Experience‐sharing meetings and mindfulness‐based stress reduction training are also useful to improve the mental health status of psychiatric nurses with great job stress. Introduction: Nurses' turnover is the main cause of nursing shortages, greatly affected by nurses' intention to leave. Nurses' turnover rate is particularly high in psychiatric wards. Several factors influencing the turnover intention of psychiatric nurses have not been well identified in China, and the association between job stress and turnover intention is still limited. Aims: To examine the relationship between job stress and turnover intention and identify the influencing factors of psychiatric nurses' turnover intention. Methods: Data were collected from 2355 psychiatric Chinese nurses using a cross‐sectional design with an online questionnaire investigation. Results: Psychiatric nurses had higher turnover intention. Significant factors influencing their turnover intention were job stress, having more children, age between 31 and 39 years old, part‐time jobs, education, income and patient‐to‐nurse ratio. Discussion: Demographics and job‐related factors should be considered when developing strategies to reduce the turnover intention of psychiatric nurses. Implications for practice: Nursing managers should pay attention to nurses with higher job stress levels and different demographic characteristics. High internalized stigma affects FGs' quality of life and caregiving capacity.Worldwide studies aimed at internalized stigma among patients diagnosed with mental illness or their FGs have reported significant stigma and some correlates, but studies involving FGs that focus on a specific mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia) and report the impact of potential psychosocial variables (e.g. coping and hope) on internalized stigma are limited. What does the paper add to existing knowledge?: Internalized stigma was common among Chinese FGs of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and half of them presented at a mild level. Internalized stigma was negatively associated with hope and positively associated with passive coping. FGs, who live with patients, have difficulty supervising medication, or care for a male relative has higher internalized stigma. What are the implications for practice?: Regarding informative support, interventions (e.g. enhancing mental health literacy programs and cognitive therapies) to provide knowledge about schizophrenia, the skills to manage patients' adherence to medications, the benefits of treatment and the possibilities of rehabilitation are necessary for FGs. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the severity of internalized stigma and its correlates among FGs of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in Changsha, Hunan, China. Methods: A consecutive sample of 299 FGs was recruited at the psychiatric outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Changsha. This study explored the relationships between internalized stigma and potential factors. Results: Nearly 50% of the FGs perceived mild internalized stigma, 24% of the FGs reported moderate level, and 6% had a severe level. Internalized stigma was associated with patients' characteristics (severity of illness) and FGs' characteristics (hope, social support, passive coping, age, education background, residence with the patient, caring for a male or a young patient and difficulty in supervising medication). Discussion and implications for practice: Informative and psychosocial interventions based on education and contact for FGs such as enhancing mental health literacy programs, cognitive therapies and group psychoeducation can provide FGs with a better understanding of schizophrenia and to promote hope, active coping and social support. Due to cultural differences, the western findings may be difficult to generalize to the Chinese general public. Moreover, health promotion agencies should identify priority groups for Alzheimer's disease risk reduction initiatives, especially those with lower income, a lower level of knowledge on Alzheimer's disease and with chronic diseases., Abstract Aim The purpose of this descriptive correlational cross-sectional study was to assess the current level of knowledge, attitudes and health behaviours regarding Alzheimer's disease among community residents in Tianjin, China and to identify factors related to these attributes. Method A convenience sample of 140 community-dwelling adults aged 20-75 years was selected to complete a researcher-designed questionnaire about Alzheimer's disease-related knowledge, attitudes and health behaviours. Results The findings revealed that 15.7% of the participants knew the risk factors for Alzheimer's disease. With regard to attitude, 138 participants (98.6%) believed that people with Alzheimer's disease should not be discriminated against, and 55.7% were not sure whether to share a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease with the patient. In daily life, 28.6% of the participants pursued their interests and hobbies. A lower level of health behaviours was associated with lower income, presence of chronic diseases and a lower level of knowledge about Alzheimer's disease. Discussion These findings provide a strong case for population-level risk reduction initiatives to be undertaken, especially among people with lower income, a lower level of knowledge on Alzheimer's disease and with chronic diseases.
