The KdV hierarchy is a paradigmatic example of the rich mathematical structure underlying integrable systems and has far-reaching connections in several areas of theoretical physics. While the positive part of the KdV hierarchy is well known, in this paper we consider an affine Lie algebraic construction for its negative part. We show that the original Miura transformation can be extended to a gauge transformation that implies several new types of relations among the negative flows of the KdV and mKdV hierarchies. Contrary to the positive flows, such a "gauge-Miura" correspondence becomes degenerate whereby more than one negative mKdV model is mapped into a single negative KdV model. For instance, the sine-Gordon and another negative mKdV flow are mapped into a single negative KdV flow which inherits solutions of both former models. The gauge-Miura correspondence implies a rich degeneracy regarding solutions of these hierarchies. We obtain similar results for the generalized KdV and mKdV hierachies constructed with the affine Lie algebra s ℓ ̂ r + 1 . In this case the first negative mKdV flow corresponds to an affine Toda field theory and the gauge-Miura correspondence yields its KdV counterpart. In particular, we show explicitly a KdV analog of the Tzitzéica-Bullough-Dodd model. In short, we uncover a rich mathematical structure for the negative flows of integrable hierarchies obtaining novel relations and integrable systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Consistent coupling of quantum and classical degrees of freedom exists so long as there is both diffusion of the classical degrees of freedom and decoherence of the quantum system. In this paper, we derive the Newtonian limit of such classical-quantum (CQ) theories of gravity. Our results are obtained both via the gauge fixing of the recently proposed path integral theory of CQ general relativity and via the CQ master equation approach. In each case, we find the same weak field dynamics. We find that the New-tonian potential diffuses by an amount lower bounded by the decoherence rate into mass eigenstates. We also present our results as an unraveled system of stochastic differential equations for the trajectory of the hybrid classical-quantum state and provide a series of kernels for constructing figures of merit, which can be used to rule out part of the parameter space of classical-quantum theories of gravity by experimentally testing it via the decoherence-diffusion trade-off. We compare and contrast the weak field limit to previous models of classical Newtonian gravity coupled to quantum systems. The Standard Model does not constrain the form of the Yukawa matrices and thus the origin of fermion mass hierarchies and mixing pattern remains puzzling. On the other hand, there are intriguing relations between fermion masses and mixing angles which may point towards specific textures of Yukawa matrices. One of the classic hypothesis is the zero texture proposed by Fritzsch which is, however, excluded by present precision tests since it predicts a too large value of |Vcb| as well as a too small value of the ratio |Vub/Vcb|. In this paper we discuss a minimal modification which still maintains the six zero entries as in the original Fritzsch ansatz. This modification consists in introducing an asymmetry between the 23 and 32 entries in the down-quark Yukawa matrix. We show that this flavour structure can naturally emerge in the context of models with inter-family SU(3)H symmetry. We present a detailed analysis of this Fritzsch-like texture by testing its predictions and showing that it is perfectly compatible with the present precision data on quark masses and CKM mixing matrix. This paper describes a search for the single production of an up-type vector-like quark (T) decaying as T → Ht or T → Zt. The search utilises a dataset of pp collisions at s = 13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector during the 2015–2018 data-taking period of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. Data are analysed in final states containing a single lepton with multiple jets and b-jets. The presence of boosted heavy resonances in the event is exploited to discriminate the signal from the Standard Model background. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and 95% CL upper limits are set on the production cross section of T quarks in different decay channels. The results are interpreted in several benchmark scenarios to set limits on the mass and universal coupling strength (κ) of the vector-like quark. For singlet T quarks, κ values above 0.53 are excluded for all masses below 2.3 TeV. At a mass of 1.6 TeV, κ values as low as 0.35 are excluded. For T quarks in the doublet scenario, where the production cross section is much lower, κ values above 0.72 are excluded for all masses below 1.7 TeV, and this exclusion is extended to κ above 0.55 for low masses around 1.0 TeV. In this paper, we re-investigate the static, soliton-like solutions in the model of the Einstein gravity coupled to a free and complex scalar field, which have been known as mini-boson stars. With the numerical methods, we have discovered a new family of solutions in addition to the typical single mini-boson star solution. These solutions can be interpreted as chains of boson stars, consisting of multiple boson stars along the symmetry axis. We demonstrate the configuration of two types of chains, one with an even number of constituents and the other with an odd number of constituents. Furthermore, we also study the effect of the frequency of the complex scalar field on the ADM mass M and the U(1) scalar charge Q. It is noteworthy that the existence of chains of boson stars does not require the introduction of a complex scalar field with self-interacting potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we explore Bell inequality violation for 2 → 2 scattering in Effective Field Theories (EFTs) of photons, gluons, and gravitons. Using the CGLMP Bell parameter (I2), we show that, starting from an appropriate initial non-product state, the Bell inequality can always be violated in the final state (i.e.,I2> 2) at least for some scattering angle. For an initial product state, we demonstrate that abelian gauge theories behave qualitatively differently than non-abelian gauge theories (or Gravity) from the point of view of Bell violation in the final state: in the non-abelian case, Bell violation (I2> 2) is never possible within the validity of EFTs for weakly coupled UV completions. Interestingly, we also find that, for a maximally entangled initial state, scattering can reduce the degree of entanglement only for CP-violating theories. Thus Bell violation in 2 → 2 scattering can, in principle, be used to classify CP conserving vs violating theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, a large class of 3d 풩 = 2 gauge theories with mixed Chern-Simons levels, corresponding to plumbing 3-manifolds, has been identified. In this paper we generalize these theories by including in their content chiral multiples, and analyze their properties. We find that the content of such theories can be encoded in graphs, which generalize plumbing graphs, and various operations in these theories can be represented in terms of transformations of such graphs. The operations in question include gauging global symmetries, integrating out gauge nodes, which for theories without chiral multiplets corresponds to Kirby moves, and ST-transformations that involve chiral multiplets. The dualities such as mirror triality and SQED-XYZ duality can be also represented in terms of graphs, and enable us to find many new dual theories by gauging global symmetries. In particular, we find that gauged SQED-XYZ duality leads to other dualities, which take the same form as operations of linking and unlinking discussed in the context of knots-quivers correspondence. We also find that the superpotential can be encoded in an interesting class of triangle graphs that satisfy certain consistency conditions, we discuss decoupling and Higgsing of chiral multiplets, as well as interpretation of various phenomena in terms of brane webs. In this paper we generalize previous work on decomposition in three-dimensional orbifolds by 2-groups realized as analogues of central extensions, to orbifolds by more general 2-groups. We describe the computation of such orbifolds in physics, state a version of the decomposition conjecture, and then compute in numerous examples, checking that decomposition works as advertised. Conformal theories of the Argyres-Douglas type are notoriously hard to study given that they are isolated and strongly coupled thus lacking a lagrangian description. In flat space, an exact description is provided by the Seiberg-Witten theory. Turning on a Ω-background makes the geometry "quantum" and tractable only in the weak curvature limit. In this paper we use the AGT correspondence to derive Ω-exact formulae for the partition function, in the nearby of monopole points where the dynamics is described by irregular conformal blocks of the CFT. The results are checked against those obtained by the recursion relations coming from a conformal anomaly in the region where the two approaches overlap. The Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit is also discussed. Finally, we comment on the existence of black holes in De Sitter space whose low energy dynamics is described by an Argyres-Douglas theory. By quantifying the distance between two collider events, one can triangulate a metric space and reframe collider data analysis as computational geometry. One popular geometric approach is to first represent events as an energy flow on an idealized celestial sphere and then define the metric in terms of optimal transport in two dimensions. In this paper, we advocate for representing events in terms of a spectral function that encodes pairwise particle angles and products of particle energies, which enables a metric distance defined in terms of one-dimensional optimal transport. This approach has the advantage of automatically incorporating obvious isometries of the data, like rotations about the colliding beam axis. It also facilitates first-principles calculations, since there are simple closed-form expressions for optimal transport in one dimension. Up to isometries and event sets of measure zero, the spectral representation is unique, so the metric on the space of spectral functions is a metric on the space of events. At lowest order in perturbation theory in electron-positron collisions, our metric is simply the summed squared invariant masses of the two event hemispheres. Going to higher orders, we present predictions for the distribution of metric distances between jets in fixed-order and resummed perturbation theory as well as in parton-shower generators. A variety of condensed matter systems describe gapless modes that can be interpreted as Nambu-Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken Poincaré symmetry. In this paper we derive new soft theorems constraining the tree-level scattering of these degrees of freedom, as exhibited in solids, fluids, superfluids, and framids. These soft theorems are in one-to-one correspondence with various broken symmetries, including spacetime translations, Lorentz boosts, and, for the case of fluids, volume-preserving diffeomorphisms. We also implement a bootstrap in which the enhanced vanishing of amplitudes in the soft limit is taken as an input, thus sculpting out a subclass of exceptional solid, fluid, and framid theories. In this paper we use lattice simulation to study four dimensional N = 4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory. We have focused on the three color theory on lattices of size 124 and for 't Hooft couplings up to λ = 40.0. Our lattice action is based on a discretization of the Marcus or GL twist of N = 4 SYM and retains one exact supersymmetry for non-zero lattice spacing. We show that lattice theory exists in a single non-Abelian Coulomb phase for all 't Hooft couplings. Furthermore the static potential we obtain from correlators of Polyakov lines is in good agreement with that obtained from holography — specifically the potential has a Coulombic form with a coefficent that varies as the square root of the 't Hooft coupling. In the context of de Sitter static-patch holography, two prescriptions have been put forward for holographic entanglement entropy computations, the monolayer and bilayer proposals. In this paper, we reformulate both prescriptions in a covariant way and extend them to include quantum corrections. We argue that the bilayer proposal is self-consistent, while the monolayer proposal exhibits contradictory behavior. In fact, the bilayer proposal leads to a stronger holographic description, in which the full spacetime is encoded on two screens at the cosmological horizons. At the classical level, we find large degeneracies of minimal extremal homologous surfaces, localized at the horizons, which can be lifted by quantum corrections. The entanglement wedges of subregions of the screens exhibit non-trivial behaviors, hinting at the existence of interesting phase transitions and non-locality in the holographic theory. In particular, while each screen encodes its corresponding static patch, we show that the entanglement wedge of the screen with the larger quantum area extends and covers the causal diamond between the screens, with a phase transition occurring when the quantum areas of the screens become equal. We argue that the capacity of the screens to encode the region between them is lost, when these are pushed further in the static patches of the observers and placed on stretched horizons. The parity violating model based on teleparallel gravity is a competitive scheme for parity violating gravity, which has been preliminary studied in the literature. To further investigate the parity violating model in teleparallel gravity, in this paper, we construct all independent parity-odd terms that are quadratic in torsion tensor and coupled to a scalar field in a way without higher-order derivatives. Using these parity-odd terms, we formulate a general parity violating scalar-tensor model in teleparallel gravity and obtain its equations of motion. To explore potentially viable models within the general model, we investigate the cosmological application of a submodel of the general model in which terms above the second power of torsion are eliminated. We focus on analyzing cosmological perturbations and identify the conditions that preserve the parity violating signal of gravitational waves at linear order while avoiding the ghost instability. In the two-component Ginzburg-Landau theory of superfluidity, a pair of fractional vortices form a composite type of topological defect, usually referred to as a baby skyrmion. In this paper, we initiate the construction of such a baby skyrmion in the holographic model of two-component superfluids. As a result, two types of baby skyrmion configurations are found, where the monopole-type of one is constructed directly by solving the static equations of motion while the dipole-type of one is obtained by resorting to the time evolution method. In addition, we find that the existence of these two types of baby skyrmion depends on the inter-component coupling, reminiscent of the situation in the baby skyrmion model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Charge Convexity Conjecture (CCC) states that in a unitary conformal field theory in d ≥ 3 dimensions with a global symmetry, the minimal dimension of operators in certain representations of the symmetry, as a function of the charge q of the representation (or a generalized notion of it), should be convex. More precisely, this was conjectured to be true when q is restricted to positive integer multiples of some integer q0. The CCC was tested on a number of examples, most of which are in d < 4 dimensions, and its version in which q0 is taken to be the charge of the lowest-dimension positively-charged operator was shown to hold in all of them. In this paper we test the conjecture in a non-trivial example of a d = 4 theory, which is the family of Caswell-Banks-Zaks IR fixed points of SU(Nc) gauge theory coupled to Nf massless fermions and Ns massless scalars. In these theories, the lowest-dimension gauge-invariant operators that transform non-trivially under the global symmetry are mesons. These may consist of two scalars, two fermions or one of each. We find that the CCC holds in all applicable cases, providing significant new evidence for its validity, and suggesting a stronger version for non-simple global symmetry groups. In this paper, we investigate a critical behavior of JT gravity, a model of two-dimensional quantum gravity on constant negatively curved spacetimes. Our approach involves using techniques from random maps to investigate the generating function of Weil-Petersson volumes, which count random hyperbolic surfaces with defects. The defects are weighted geodesic boundaries, and criticality is reached by tuning the weights to the regime where macroscopic holes emerge in the hyperbolic surface, namely non-generic criticality. We analyze the impact of this critical regime on some universal features, such as its density of states. We present a family of models that interpolates between systems with ρ0(E) ~ E − E 0 and ρ0(E) ~ (E − E0)3/2, which are commonly found in models of JT gravity coupled to dynamical end-of-the-world and FZZT branes, and give a precise definition of what this phase transition means from the random geometry point of view. We study the correlation functions of local operators in unitary T T ¯ -deformed field theories, using their formulation in terms of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. The position of the operators is defined using the dynamical coordinates of this formalism. We focus on the two-point correlation function in momentum space, when the undeformed theory is a conformal field theory. In particular, we compute the large momentum behavior of the correlation functions, which manifests the non-locality of the T T ¯ -deformed theory. The correlation function has UV-divergences, which are regulated by a point-splitting regulator. Renormalizing the operators requires multiplicative factors depending on the momentum, unlike the behavior in local QFTs. The large momentum limit of the correlator, which is the main result of this paper, is proportional to q − q 2 π Λ , where q is the momentum and 1/|Λ| is the deformation parameter. Interestingly, the exponent here has a different sign from earlier results obtained by resummation of small q computations. The decay at large momentum implies that the operators behave non-locally at the scale set by the deformation parameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Freudenthal duality is, as of now, the unique non-linear map on electric-magnetic (e.m.) charges which is a symmetry of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black holes, displaying the Attractor Mechanism (possibly, up to some flat directions) in Maxwell-Einstein-scalar theories in four space-time dimensions and with non-trivial symplectic e.m. duality. In this paper, we put forward an effective approach to a consistent generalization of Freudenthal duality to near-extremal black holes, whose entropy is obtained within a Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity upon dimensional reduction. We name such a generalization near-extremal Freudenthal duality. Upon such a duality, two near-extremal black holes with two different (and both small) temperatures have the same entropy when their e.m. charges are related by a Freudenthal transformation. By exploiting Descartes' rule of signs as well as Sturm's Theorem, we show that our formulation of the near-extremal Freudenthal duality is analytical and unique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FASER, the ForwArd Search ExpeRiment, is a currently operating experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that can detect light long-lived particles produced in the forward region of the LHC interacting point. In this paper, we study the prospect of detecting light CP-even and CP-odd scalars at FASER and FASER 2. Considering a model-independent framework describing the most general interactions between a CP-even or CP-odd scalar and SM particles using the notation of coupling modifiers in the effective Lagrangian, we develop the general formalism for the scalar production and decay. We then analyze the FASER and FASER 2 reaches of light scalars in the large tan β region of the Type-I two Higgs double model as a case study, in which light scalars with relatively long lifetime could be accommodated. In the two benchmark scenarios we considered, the light (pseudo)scalar decay length varies in (10−8, 105) meters. Both FASER and FASER 2 can probe a large part of the parameter space in the large tan β region up to 107, extending beyond the constraints of the other existing experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The R2 inflation which is an extension of general relativity (GR) by quadratic scalar curvature introduces a quasi-de Sitter expansion of the early Universe governed by Ricci scalar being an eigenmode of d’Alembertian operator. In this paper, we derive a most general theory of gravity admitting R2 inflationary solution which turned out to be higher curvature non-local extension of GR. We study in detail inflationary perturbations in this theory and analyse the structure of form-factors that leads to a massive scalar (scalaron) and massless tensor degrees of freedom. We argue that the theory contains only finite number of free parameters which can be fixed by cosmological observations. We derive predictions of our generalized non-local R2-like inflation and obtain the scalar spectral index ns ≈ 1 − 2 N and any value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r < 0.036. In this theory, tensor spectral index can be either positive or negative nt ≶ 0 and the well-known consistency relation r = –8nt is violated in a non-trivial way. We also compute running of the tensor spectral index and discuss observational implications to distinguish this model from several classes of scalar field models of inflation. These predictions allow us to probe the nature of quantum gravity in the scope of future CMB and gravitational wave observations. Finally we comment on how the features of generalized non-local R2-like inflation cannot be captured by established notions of the so-called effective field theory of single field inflation and how we must redefine the way we pursue inflationary cosmology. We present several classes of constraints on the discontinuities of Feynman integrals that go beyond the Steinmann relations. These constraints follow from a geometric formulation of the Landau equations that was advocated by Pham, in which the singularities of Feynman integrals correspond to critical points of maps between on-shell spaces. To establish our results, we review elements of Picard-Lefschetz theory, which connect the homotopy properties of the space of complexified external momenta to the homology of the combined space of on-shell internal and external momenta. An important concept that emerges from this analysis is the question of whether or not a pair of Landau singularities is compatible — namely, whether or not the Landau equations for the two singularities can be satisfied simultaneously. Under conditions we describe, sequential discontinuities with respect to non-compatible Landau singularities must vanish. Although we only rigorously prove results for Feynman integrals with generic masses in this paper, we expect the geometric and algebraic insights that we gain will also assist in the analysis of more general Feynman integrals. Boostless Bootstrap techniques have been applied by many in the literature to compute pure scalar and graviton correlators. In this paper, we focus primarily on mixed graviton and scalar correlators. We start by developing an EFT of Inflation (EFToI) with some general assumptions, clarifying various subtleties related to power counting. We verify explicitly the soft limits for mixed correlators, showing how they are satisfied for higher derivative operators beyond the Maldacena action. We clarify some confusion in the literature related to the soft limits for operators that modify the power spectra of gravitons or scalars. We then proceed to apply the boostless bootstrap rules to operators that do not modify the power spectra. Towards the end, we give a prescription that gives correlators for states that are Bogolyubov transforms of the Bunch-Davies vacuum, directly once we have the correlator for the Bunch-Davies vacuum. The computation of the partition function in certain quantum field theories, such as those of the Argyres-Douglas or Minahan-Nemeschansky type, is problematic due to the lack of a Lagrangian description. In this paper, we use the holomorphic anomaly equation to derive the gravitational corrections to the prepotential of such theories at rank one by deforming them from the conformal point. In the conformal limit, we find a general formula for the partition function as a sum of hypergeometric functions. We show explicit results for the round sphere and the Nekrasov-Shatashvili phases of the Ω background. The first case is relevant for the derivation of extremal correlators in flat space, whereas the second one has interesting applications for the study of anharmonic oscillators. A model-independent search for new physics leading to final states containing a Higgs boson, with a mass of 125.09 GeV, decaying to a pair of photons is performed with 139 fb−1 of s = 13 TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This search examines 22 final states categorized by the objects that are produced in association with the Higgs boson. These objects include isolated electrons or muons, hadronically decaying τ-leptons, additional photons, missing transverse momentum, and hadronic jets, as well as jets that are tagged as containing a b-hadron. No significant excesses above Standard Model expectations are observed and limits on the production cross section at 95% confidence level are set. Detector efficiencies are reported for all 22 signal regions, which can be used to convert detector-level cross-section limits reported in this paper to particle-level cross-section constraints. The connection between quantum information and quantum gravity has captured the imagination of physicists. Recently, a broad new class of gravitational observables have been proposed to provide new possibilities for holographic complexity [1], which is an extension of volume in the Complexity=Volume proposal. In this paper, we investigate generalized volume-complexity for the 4-dimensional Reissner-Nordström-AdS black hole. These new gravitational observables satisfy the characteristic of the thermofield double state, i.e., they grow linearly in time on the late stage. We find that there are multiple extremal hypersurfaces anchored at a certain boundary time. In other words, for the same boundary time, more than one gravitational observable (generalized volume-complexity) can exist in the bulk. The size relationship of the gravitational observables on the two hypersurfaces changes over time. This will result in the substitution of the maximum extreme hypersurface which is dual to the complexity of the thermofield double state. We call the time when one hypersurface replaces another to become the largest extreme hypersurface the turning time τturning. That is, a hypersurface dual to the complexity of the thermofield double state defined on the boundary jumps from one branch to another. This discontinuous jump is highly reminiscent of a phase transition, and the turning time denotes the moment at which this phase transition occurs. We initiate the analytical functional bootstrap study of conformal field theories with large N limits. In this first paper we particularly focus on the 1D O(N) vector bootstrap. We obtain a remarkably simple bootstrap equation from the O(N) vector crossing equations in the large N limit. The numerical conformal bootstrap bound is saturated by the generalized free field theories, while its extremal functional actions do not converge to any non-vanishing limit. We study the analytical extremal functionals of this crossing equation, for which the total positivity of the SL(2, ℝ) conformal block plays a critical role. We prove the SL(2, ℝ) conformal block is totally positive in the limits with large ∆ or small 1 − z and show that the total positivity is violated below a critical value ∆ TP ∗ ≈ 0.32315626. The SL(2, ℝ) conformal block forms a surprisingly sophisticated mathematical structure, which for instance can violate total positivity at the order 10−5654 for a normal value ∆ = 0.1627! We construct a series of analytical functionals {αM} which satisfy the bootstrap positive conditions up to a range ∆ ⩽ ΛM. The functionals {αM} have a trivial large M limit. However, due to total positivity, they can approach the large M limit in a way consistent with the bootstrap positive conditions for arbitrarily high ΛM. Moreover, in the region ∆ ⩽ ΛM, the analytical functional actions are consistent with the numerical bootstrap results, therefore it clarifies the positive structure in the crossing equation analytically. Our result provides a concrete example to illustrate how the analytical properties of the conformal block lead to nontrivial bootstrap bounds. This paper presents direct searches for lepton flavour violation in Higgs boson decays, H → eτ and H → μτ, performed using data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The searches are based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. Leptonic (τ → ℓνℓντ) and hadronic (τ → hadrons ντ) decays of the τ-lepton are considered. Two background estimation techniques are employed: the MC-template method, based on data-corrected simulation samples, and the Symmetry method, based on exploiting the symmetry between electrons and muons in the Standard Model backgrounds. No significant excess of events is observed and the results are interpreted as upper limits on lepton-flavour-violating branching ratios of the Higgs boson. The observed (expected) upper limits set on the branching ratios at 95% confidence level, B (H → eτ) < 0.20% (0.12%) and B (H → μτ) < 0.18% (0.09%), are obtained with the MC-template method from a simultaneous measurement of potential H → eτ and H → μτ signals. The best-fit branching ratio difference, B (H → μτ) → B (H → eτ), measured with the Symmetry method in the channel where the τ-lepton decays to leptons, is (0.25 ± 0.10)%, compatible with a value of zero within 2.5σ. The R2 inflation which is an extension of general relativity (GR) by quadratic scalar curvature introduces a quasi-de Sitter expansion of the early Universe governed by Ricci scalar being an eigenmode of d'Alembertian operator. In this paper, we derive a most general theory of gravity admitting R2 inflationary solution which turned out to be higher curvature non-local extension of GR. We study in detail inflationary perturbations in this theory and analyse the structure of form-factors that leads to a massive scalar (scalaron) and massless tensor degrees of freedom. We argue that the theory contains only finite number of free parameters which can be fixed by cosmological observations. We derive predictions of our generalized non-local R2-like inflation and obtain the scalar spectral index ns ≈ 1 − 2 N and any value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r < 0.036. In this theory, tensor spectral index can be either positive or negative nt ≶ 0 and the well-known consistency relation r = –8nt is violated in a non-trivial way. We also compute running of the tensor spectral index and discuss observational implications to distinguish this model from several classes of scalar field models of inflation. These predictions allow us to probe the nature of quantum gravity in the scope of future CMB and gravitational wave observations. Finally we comment on how the features of generalized non-local R2-like inflation cannot be captured by established notions of the so-called effective field theory of single field inflation and how we must redefine the way we pursue inflationary cosmology. In this paper, we reduce the electromagnetic theory to future null infinity and obtain a vector theory at the boundary. We compute the Poincaré flux operators which could be generalized. We quantize the vector theory, and impose normal order on the extended flux operators. It is shown that these flux operators generate the supertranslation and superrotation. When work out the commutators of these operators, we find that a generalized electromagnetic duality operator should be included as the generators to form a closed symmetry algebra. This paper describes a search for dark photons (γd) in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The dark photons are searched for in the decay of Higgs bosons (H → γγd) produced through the ZH production mode. The transverse mass of the system, made of the photon and the missing transverse momentum from the non-interacting γd, presents a distinctive signature as it peaks near the Higgs boson mass. The results presented use the total Run-2 integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The dominant reducible background processes are estimated using data-driven techniques. A Boosted Decision Tree technique is adopted to enhance the sensitivity of the search. As no excess is observed with respect to the Standard Model prediction, an observed (expected) upper limit on the branching ratio BR(H → γγd) of 2.28% ( 2.82 − 0.84 + 1.33 % ) is set at 95% CL for massless γd. For massive dark photons up to 40 GeV, the observed (expected) upper limits on BR(H → γγd) at 95% confidence level is found within the [2.19,2.52]% ([2.71,3.11]%) range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We recently proved that, when integrating out the spacetime dependence with a certain integration measure, four-point correlators O 2 O 2 O p i O p i in 풩 = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with SU(N) gauge group are governed by a universal Laplace-difference equation. Here O p i is a superconformal primary with charge p and degeneracy i. These physical observables, called integrated correlators, are modular-invariant functions of Yang-Mills coupling τ. The Laplace-difference equation is a recursion relation that relates integrated correlators of operators with different charges. In this paper, we introduce the generating functions for these integrated correlators that sum over the charge. By utilising the Laplace-difference equation, we determine the generating functions for all the integrated correlators, in terms of the initial data of the recursion relation. We show that the transseries of the integrated correlators in the large-p (i.e. large-charge) expansion for a fixed N consists of three parts: 1) is independent of τ, which behaves as a power series in 1/p, plus an additional log(p) term when i = j; 2) is a power series in 1/p, with coefficients given by a sum of the non-holomorphic Eisenstein series; 3) is a sum of exponentially decayed modular functions in the large-p limit, which can be viewed as a generalisation of the non-holomorphic Eisenstein series. When i = j, there is an additional modular function of τ that is independent of p and is fully determined in terms of the integrated correlator with p = 2. The Laplace-difference equation was obtained with a reorganisation of the operators that means the large-charge limit is taken in a particular way here. From these SL(2, ℤ)-invariant results, we also determine the generalised 't Hooft genus expansion and the associated large-p non-perturbative corrections of the integrated correlators by introducing λ = p g YM 2 . The generating functions have subtle differences between even and odd N, which have important consequences in the large-charge expansion and resurgence analysis. We also consider the generating functions of the integrated correlators for some fixed p by summing over N, and we study their large-N behaviour, as well as comment on the similarities and differences between the large-p expansion and the large-N expansion. A search for high-mass charged and neutral bosons decaying to Wγ and Zγ final states is presented in this paper. The analysis uses a data sample of s = 13 TeV proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC Run 2 operation. The sensitivity of the search is determined using models of the production and decay of spin-1 charged bosons and spin-0/2 neutral bosons. The range of resonance masses explored extends from 1.0 TeV to 6.8 TeV. At these high resonance masses, it is beneficial to target the hadronic decays of the W and Z bosons because of their large branching fractions. The decay products of the high-momentum W/Z bosons are strongly collimated and boosted-boson tagging techniques are employed to improve the sensitivity. No evidence of a signal above the Standard Model backgrounds is observed, and upper limits on the production cross-sections of these bosons times their branching fractions to Wγ and Zγ are derived for various boson production models. The choice of an electroweak (EW) input scheme is an important component of perturbative calculations in Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). In this paper we perform a systematic study of three different EW input schemes in SMEFT, in particular those using the parameter sets {MW, MZ, GF}, {MW, MZ, α}, or {α, MZ, GF}. We discuss general features and calculate decay rates of Z and W bosons to leptons and Higgs decays to bottom quarks in these three schemes up to next-to-leading order (NLO) in dimension-six SMEFT. We explore the sensitivity to Wilson coefficients and perturbative convergence in the different schemes, and show that while the latter point is more involved than in the Standard Model, the dominant scheme-dependent NLO corrections are universal and can be taken into account by a simple set of substitutions on the leading-order results. Residual NLO corrections are then of similar size between the different input schemes, and performing calculations in multiple schemes can give a useful handle on theory uncertainties in SMEFT predictions and fits to data. Measurements of differential cross sections are presented for inclusive isolated-photon production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV provided by the LHC and using 139 fb−1 of data recorded by the ATLAS experiment. The cross sections are measured as functions of the photon transverse energy in different regions of photon pseudorapidity. The photons are required to be isolated by means of a fixed-cone method with two different cone radii. The dependence of the inclusive-photon production on the photon isolation is investigated by measuring the fiducial cross sections as functions of the isolation-cone radius and the ratios of the differential cross sections with different radii in different regions of photon pseudorapidity. The results presented in this paper constitute an improvement with respect to those published by ATLAS earlier: the measurements are provided for different isolation radii and with a more granular segmentation in photon pseudorapidity that can be exploited in improving the determination of the proton parton distribution functions. These improvements provide a more in-depth test of the theoretical predictions. Next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from JETPHOX and SHERPA and next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from NNLOJET are compared to the measurements, using several parameterisations of the proton parton distribution functions. The measured cross sections are well described by the fixed-order QCD predictions within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties in most of the investigated phase-space region. Missing kinematic information of known invisible particles, such as neutrinos, limit several high-energy physics analysis. The undetected particle carries away momentum and energy information, preventing the total reconstruction of such an event. This paper presents a new method to handle this missing information, referred to as the Generalised Known Kinematics (GKK) approach. Its event-by-event probability density distributions that describe the physically allowed kinematics of an event. For GKK, we consider the available kinematic information and constraints given by the assumed final state. Summing these event-wise distributions over large data sets allows the determination of parameters that influence the event kinematics. Examples are particle masses obscured by the missing information on the invisible final-state particles. The method is demonstrated in simulation studies with τ+τ− events in e+e− collisions at the Υ (4S) resonance, presenting a new, promising approach for measuring the τ lepton mass. We consider type IIB compactifications on a general 4D group manifold with different types of possible spacetime filling O-planes and the corresponding D-branes parallel to them. Once fluxes allowed by the associated orientifold projection are included, a 6D 풩 = (1, 1) gauged supergravity is obtained. In this paper we show how the consistent coupling to dynamical open strings living on the spacetime filling D-branes may be captured by the inclusion of extra vector multiplets and extra embedding tensor deformations on the gauged supergravity side. As a result, the quadratic constraints on the embedding tensor consistently reproduce the source corrected 10D Bianchi identities. Furthermore, the field strength modifications induced by the open string sector could potentially be understood as U-dual versions of the Green-Schwarz terms. Finally, the entire scalar potential of the theory exactly matches the one obtained from reduction of the bulk action plus the source contributions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a search for a new Z′ vector gauge boson with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using pp collision data collected at s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. The new gauge boson Z′ is predicted by Lμ − Lτ models to address observed phenomena that can not be explained by the Standard Model. The search examines the four-muon (4μ) final state, using a deep learning neural network classifier to separate the Z′ signal from the Standard Model background events. The di-muon invariant masses in the 4μ events are used to extract the Z′ resonance signature. No significant excess of events is observed over the predicted background. Upper limits at a 95% confidence level on the Z′ production cross-section times the decay branching fraction of pp → Z′μμ → 4μ are set from 0.31 to 4.3 fb for the Z′ mass ranging from 5 to 81 GeV. The corresponding common coupling strengths, gZ′, of the Z′ boson to the second and third generation leptons above 0.003 – 0.2 have been excluded. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we investigate gluing together two Anti-de Sitter (AdS) geometries along a timelike brane, which corresponds to coupling two brane field theories (BFTs) through gravitational interactions in the dual holographic perspective. By exploring the general conditions for this gluing process, we show that the energy stress tensors of the BFTs backreact on the dynamical metric in a manner reminiscent of the TTbar deformation. In particular, we present explicit solutions for the three-dimensional case with chiral excitations and further construct perturbative solutions with non-chiral excitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In [1], a most general higher curvature non-local gravity action was derived that admits a particular R2-like inflationary solution predicting the spectral index of primordial scalar perturbations n s N ≈ 1 − 1 2 , where N is the number of e-folds before the end of inflation, N ≫ 1, any value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r(N) < 0.036 and the tensor tilt nt(N) violating the r = –8nt condition. In this paper, we compute scalar primordial non-Gaussianities (PNGs) in this theory and effectively demonstrate that higher curvature non-local terms lead to reduced bispectrum fNL (k1, k2, k3) mimicking several classes of scalar field models of inflation known in the literature. We obtain |fNL| ~ O(1 – 10) in the equilateral, orthogonal, and squeezed limits and the running of these PNGs measured by the quantity d ln f NL d ln k ≲ 1 . Such PNGs are sufficiently large to be measurable by future CMB and Large Scale Structure observations, thus providing a possibility to probe the nature of quantum gravity. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the R2-like inflation in non-local modification of gravity brings non-trivial predictions which go beyond the current status of effective field theories (EFTs) of single field, quasi-single field and multiple field inflation. A distinguishable feature of non-local R2-like inflation compared to local EFTs is that we can have running of PNGs at least an order of magnitude higher. In summary, through our generalized non-local R2-like inflation, we obtain a robust geometric framework of inflation that can explain any detection of observable quantities related to scalar PNGs. The symmetric orbifold of 핋4 is the analogue of free SYM in four dimensions, and its dual is described by a tensionless string propagating in AdS3 × S3 × 핋4. In this paper we study the deformation of this exact AdS/CFT duality away from the free point. On the symmetric orbifold side this amounts to perturbing the theory by the exactly marginal operator from the 2-cycle twisted sector. We identify the corresponding perturbation in the dual worldsheet description, and show that the anomalous conformal dimensions of a number of symmetric orbifold currents are correctly reproduced from this worldsheet perspective. Following a recent publication, in this paper we count the number of independent operators at arbitrary mass dimension in N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories and derive their field and derivative content. This work uses Hilbert series machinery and extends a technique from our previous work on handling integration by parts redundancies to vector superfields. The method proposed here can be applied to both abelian and non-abelian gauge theories and for any set of (chiral/antichiral) matter fields. This paper presents measurements of charged-hadron spectra obtained in pp, p+Pb, and Pb+Pb collisions at s or s NN = 5.02 TeV, and in Xe+Xe collisions at s NN = 5.44 TeV. The data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC have total integrated luminosities of 25 pb−1, 28 nb−1, 0.50 nb−1, and 3 μb−1, respectively. The nuclear modification factors RpPb and RAA are obtained by comparing the spectra in heavy-ion and pp collisions in a wide range of charged-particle transverse momenta and pseudorapidity. The nuclear modification factor RpPb shows a moderate enhancement above unity with a maximum at pT ≈ 3 GeV; the enhancement is stronger in the Pb-going direction. The nuclear modification factors in both Pb+Pb and Xe+Xe collisions feature a significant, centrality-dependent suppression. They show a similar distinct pT-dependence with a local maximum at pT ≈ 2 GeV and a local minimum at pT ≈ 7 GeV. This dependence is more distinguishable in more central collisions. No significant |η|-dependence is found. A comprehensive comparison with several theoretical predictions is also provided. Application of the supersymmetric localization method to theories on anti-de Sitter spacetime has received recent interest, yet still remains as a challenging problem. In this paper, we focus on (global) Euclidean AdS2, on which we consider an Abelian 풩 = (2) theory and implement localization computation to obtain the exact partition function. For comparison, we also revisit the theory on S2 and perform a parallel computation. We refine the notion of equivariant supersymmetry and use appropriate functional integration measure. For AdS2 we choose a supersymmetric boundary condition which is compatible with the principle of variation. To evaluate the 1-loop determinant about the localization saddle, we use index theory and fixed point formula, where we pay attention to the effect of zero modes and their superpartners. The existence of fermionic superpartner of 1-form boundary zero modes is proven. Obtaining the 1-loop determinant requires expansion of the index that presents an ambiguity, which we resolve using boundary condition. The resulting partition function reveals an overall dependence on the size of the background manifold, AdS2 as well as S2, as a sum of two types of contributions: a local one from local conformal anomaly through the index computation and a global one coming from zero modes. This overall size dependence matches with the perturbative 1-loop evaluation using heat kernel method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In [1], we proposed a universal method to reduce one-loop integrals with both tensor structure and higher-power propagators. But the method is quite redundant as it does not utilize the results of lower rank cases when addressing certain tensor integrals. Recently, we found a remarkable recursion relation [2-3], where a tensor integral is reduced to lower-rank integrals and lower terms corresponding to integrals with one or more propagators being canceled. However, the expression of the lower terms is unknown. In this paper, we derive this non-trivial recursion relation for non-degenerate and degenerate cases and provides an explicit expression for the lower terms, thus simplifying and speeding up the reduction process. We propose a unified perspective on two sets of objects that usually arise in the study of bipartite field theories. Each of the sets consists of a polytope, or equivalently a toric Calabi-Yau, and a quiver theory. We refer to the two sets of objects as original and twin. In the simplest cases, the two sides of the correspondence are connected by the graph operation known as untwisting. The democratic treatment that we advocate raises new questions regarding the connections between these objects, some of which we explore. With this motivation in mind, we establish a correspondence between the mutations of the original polytope and the twin quiver. This leads us to propose that non-toric twin quivers are naturally associated to generalized toric polygons (GTPs) and we explore various aspects of this idea. Supporting evidence includes global symmetries, the ability of twin quivers to encode the generalized s-rule, and the connection between the mutations of polytopes and of configurations of webs of 5-branes suspended from 7-branes. We introduce three methods for constructing twin quivers for GTPs. We also investigate the connection between twin quivers obtained using different toric phases. Twin quivers provide a powerful new perspective on GTPs. The ideas presented in this paper may represent a step towards the generalization of brane tilings to GTPs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There are various reasons why adding stubs to the vertices of open string field theory (OSFT) is interesting: the stubs can not only tame certain singularities and make the theory more well-behaved, but also the new theory shares a lot of similarities with closed string field theory, which helps to improve our understanding of its structure and possible solutions. In this paper we explore two natural ways of implementing stubs into the framework of OSFT, resulting in an A∞-algebra giving rise to infinitely many vertices. We find two distinct consistent actions, both generated by a field redefinition, interestingly sharing the same equations of motion. In this paper, we study the potential of future colliders to explore the parameter space of heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) through the dipole portal. We consider hadron colliders such as the LHC in the high luminosity phase and FCC-hh, and lepton colliders, such as FCC-ee. We consider various signatures for the HNLs, including the missing energy signature and displaced decays, and discuss the complementarity between the hadron and lepton colliders. We propose new selection rules which may significantly reduce the background events in FCC-ee. In particular, we find that thanks to a much clearer environment, FCC-ee may search for the HNLs with masses up to ≃ 30 GeV and proper lifetimes cτN ≳ 1 cm, which is well beyond the reach of the experiments to be launched in the next decade. In this paper, we study the processes of e+e− annihilation into two body final states, either two pseudoscalar mesons or one meson with a photon. The hadronic vacuum polarization form factors are calculated within the framework of resonance chiral theory in the energy region of E ≲ 2 GeV, with final state interactions taken into account. A joint analysis on the processes of e+e−→ π+π−, K+K−, K L 0 K S 0 , π0γ, and ηγ has been performed, and the latest experimental data are included. Based on the vacuum polarization form factors of these processes, we estimate their contributions to the lowest order of anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, (g – 2)μ. Combined with other contributions from hadronic vacuum polarization and other interactions from the standard model, the discrepancy between theoretical prediction and experimental measurement is ∆aμ = (24.1 ± 5.4) × 10−10, i.e., 4.5σ.
