The exodus of medical and nursing personnel from developing countries to the U.S. is steadily increasing. While there is awareness that this should be stopped or at any rate slowed down, no empirical studies have heretofore been made of the problem. The purposes of the present study are to analyze the reasons for the mass exodus of nursing personnel to the U.S., to evaluate the problems nursing personnel face in both the U.S. and India and to offer suggestions for improvement of nursing education in India so as to slow down the exodus and to lure nurses in the U.S. back to India.

Administratively, South Vietnam is divided into nearly 50 districts and each has a headquarters hospital. This structure dates from the Colonial period and the bulk of district hospitals has changed very little since then. Now they are run down and overcrowded, dealing with a load of casualty work not envisaged when designed. Its only university had been in Hanoi, so that the new republic created in 1954 had neither Medical School nor School of Nursing and was soon faced with a war that demanded doctors and nurses in large numbers. Nursing still lacks professional recognition in the Republic.

The purpose of the article is to describe the position of the nursing profession in France and its future. It is always a difficult task to describe the conditions that prevail in one's country to a public which does not live in that particular country. Among the nurses actually in care of the sick, 40 % work outside hospitals, in dispensaries, special centers for nurses who care for the sick in their homes, business firm and schools.
