Carboniferous volcanic rocks are widely distributed in the Junggar Basin and may provide a unique insight into the tectonic history of this basin. In this paper, we focus on the tectonic evolution of the northern Junggar Basin (NJB) using geochronological and geochemical data to establish the diachronous closure model for the Keramaili oceanic basin. The Lower Carboniferous strata in the eastern part (well WC‐1) and the Upper Carboniferous strata in the western part (well Y‐2) of the NJB are composed of a mix of compositional and rock‐type forms. These volcanic rocks are mostly high‐K assemblages characterized by high K (1.73–6.48%), high alkali (Na2O + K2O = 5.04–7.45%), and low TiO2 (0.57–1.06%). They also exhibit various REE concentrations (68.44–168.19 ppm), an enrichment of LREE (LaN/YbN = 4.54–8.09), and small negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.74–0.90). The depletion of HFSE and relevant tectonic setting discrimination diagrams demonstrate that these two volcanic associations were formed in a subduction‐related environment. The data also indicate that the high‐K volcanic rocks are derived from a mix of melted subducted sediments and mantle metasomatized by silica‐rich fluids. Although these two sets of volcanic rocks formed in Early and Late Carboniferous, the similar petrographic and geochemical natures suggest similar magma source and tectonic setting. Along with different regional tectonic settings in the NJB during the Carboniferous, we propose an asynchronous subduction of Keramaili oceanic basin, resulting in the inconsistent temporal and spatial distribution of Upper Carboniferous volcanic rocks in the NJB. The East China Sea Shelf Basin (ECSSB) is a typical Meso-Cenozoic superimposed basin characterized by different tectonic frameworks, suffering multi-stage tectonism (e.g. the Indosinian, the Yanshanian and the Himalayan) since the Mesozoic. The Mesozoic ECSSB is a key place to our understanding of the tectonic evolution and dynamic mechanism in eastern South China and the subduction of the Izanagi Plate. Based on geological and geophysical results acquired over the last 10 years, this paper provides a summary of the distribution of Mesozoic strata, ascertains boundaries of the Mesozoic basin and proposes the division of the Mesozoic tectonic units in the ECSSB. The Mesozoic ECSSB was subdivided into the Western Fault Depression (WFD) characterized by dispersed Cretaceous half-grabens and the East Depression (ED) characterized by depressions at the early stage and grabens at the later stage. The WFD is composed of half-grabens formed under transtension, and the ED is composed of depression zones on the pre-Mesozoic basement under regional compression, indicating different dynamic mechanisms from the Cenozoic basins. Formation of the Mesozoic tectonic framework was controlled by the collision, compression and subduction of the Izanagi Plate and the Pacific Plate and also affected by the Indian Plate at a later stage. By comparison, this paper preliminarily proposes that the northern South China Sea and the ED of the ECSSB were originally a unified basin and jointly constituted a huge Mesozoic proto-basin in the East Asian continental margin. The Mesozoic tectonic unit division is helpful not only to discuss and resolve problems of ocean-continent differences and boundaries in southeastern South China but also to understand the tectonic nature of the East Asian continental margin, the dynamic mechanism of the Mesozoic basins and the transition of continental margin types. Tectonic migration is a common geological process during basin formation and development. However, there are many disputes about the tectonic migration and its dynamic mechanism in the Bohai Bay Basin. By analysis of Cenozoic tectonic, sedimentation and magmatism migration processes in the Bohai Bay Basin, combined with previous studies, the Cenozoic tectonic migration law in the Bohai Bay Basin is summarized in this paper. Affected by the subduction of the Indian Plate to the Eurasian Plate, its far-field effect of the related eastward asthenospheric extrusion and the subduction of the Pacific Plate to the Eurasian Plate, the Cenozoic Bohai Bay Basin is characterized by the gradual northeastward and eastward/seaward migration of tectonic units. The tectonic migration is accompanied by eastward migrations and younging of faulting, depressions in the Bohai Bay Basin, depocentres and subsidence centres and magmatism. Finally, based on intraplate and plate marginal processes and mechanisms, the tectonic migration mechanism in the Cenozoic Bohai Bay Basin is discussed in this paper. The gradual migration of tectonic-sedimentary-basin-forming movements is younger and younger towards the east, resulting from the combined effect of the collision and subduction among the Indian Plate and the Pacific Plate to the Eurasian Plate. This paper focuses on the area around the Changgou gold mine within the North Hanyin area of the South Qinling Mountains, China. We combine new large‐scale field geological, tectonic, and lithofacies data with the results of previous research and present new information on the geological characteristics of mineralization within this region. These data indicate that the Changgou gold mine is a brittle–ductile shear zone associated gold deposit and that the key controls on the formation of the deposit can be used to identify areas in this region that are favourable for future exploration. The key control on the spatial distribution of mineralization within the Changgou gold mine area is the location of the DSZ3 brittle–ductile shear zone, with secondary faults and fractures controlling the specific locations of gold orebodies. The structural deformation is dominated by the development of an S2 foliation that strikes 290–350° (predominantly inclination 230° and dip 30°). Gold‐bearing pyrite is preferentially aligned along the S2 foliation, and individual orebodies are preferentially located along the S2 foliation. Therefore, this foliation controlled the location of mineralization at both micro‐ and macroscopic scales. Mineralization also occurs in S2‐phase quartz veins that contain visible granular gold, whereas the S3‐phase quartz veins are generally barren and are not related to the location of gold mineralization. Fluid inclusion microthermometry indicates that gold‐bearing quartz veins homogenized at 190–260°C and have salinities (in NaCl equivalent terms) of 6–12%. All of these fluid inclusions contain gas and liquid phases dominated by CO2 and H2O, respectively, indicating that they are CO2–H2O type. The hydrothermal fluids that formed the Changgou deposit are similar to those that generate epithermal deposits (i.e., moderate‐ to low‐temperature, moderate‐ to low‐salinity, and low‐density CO2–H2O fluids). Our research into the geological characteristics of the quartz veins that formed at different times in the study area and their associations with different styles of mineralization and alteration indicates that the hydrothermal fluids associated with the S2 period of deformation were the main ore‐forming fluids associated with the Changgou gold deposit. Microbial carbonate has been increasingly recognized as an important player for sediment production and building up of organosedimentary deposits. The integrated spatio‐temporal pattern of microbial facies is important for understanding carbonate production processes in a carbonate platform. This paper focuses on the sedimentary facies and development of a microbe‐dominated platform in the Cambrian North China Platform (the Zhangxia Formation of the Cambrian Series 3) in Shandong Province, China. In the entire Zhangxia platform, deposition started with oolite‐dominated shoal‐lagoon system with rare microbialites. The shoal‐lagoon system in the western part of the study area kept up with sea‐level rise and formed a flat‐topped platform, whereas that in the eastern part failed to keep up and thus drowned. The platform top then changed to a microbe‐dominated carbonate platform consisting of thrombolite, stromatolite, dendrolite, and Epiphyton framestone. The initial significant microbialites were biohermal thrombolite and dendrolites, which subsequently changed into wider biostromal forms. The morphologic change was largely due to initial rapid rise in sea level and the following deceleration. Extensive biostromes of laterally coalesced thrombolite–Epiphyton bioherms occur in the shale‐dominated eastern part. These microbialites then perished by platform‐wide drowning. The vast initial development of microbialite facies of the Zhangxia Formation in the Shandong area was important for the establishment of an extensive microbialite‐dominated carbonate factory made by combination of an absence of reef‐building metazoans and possible transition of seawater chemistry from aragonite sea to calcite sea in the Cambrian Series 3. West Junggar is located at the southwest margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and includes Silurian pillow basalts of the Mayilashan Formation. The petrogenesis and tectonic setting of these pillow basalts are important for the understanding of the tectonic evolution and metallogeny of the West Junggar area. This paper presents geochronological, geochemical, and whole‐rock Sr–Nd–Pb isotope data from the pillow basalts of the Mayilashan Formation. Zircon LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb dating of a pillow basalt, which is in conformable contact with the chert, suggests that they were erupted at 437.2 ± 2.2 Ma marking the timing of generation of these rocks as Middle Silurian. Geochemically, all the pillow basalts bear the signature of ocean island basalt (OIB), and are characterized by alkaline affinity with high concentrations of TiO2 (3.28–4.12 wt.%), LILE and LREE enrichment and HREE depletion ((La/Yb)N = 5.5–7.3), with very weak Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.96–1.06), and no obvious Nb, Ta, or Ti negative anomalies. Their Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions ((87Sr/86Sr)I = 0.7037–0.7051, εNd(t) = 1.9–2.9, 206Pb/204Pbi = 17.74–18.22, 207Pb/204Pbi = 15.48–15.52, and 208Pb/204Pbi = 36.49–37.86) show Dupal‐like isotopic signature of ophiolites in the southern Paleo‐Asian Ocean. These characteristics indicate that the magmas were derived from a deep OIB reservoir, that is, a depleted but slightly heterogeneous asthenospheric mantle source with ~5–15% partial melting of garnet and spinel lherzolite. Our obtained results, in conjunction with previous published data, allow us to suggest that the alkaline pillow basalts formed in a seamount within an intraoceanic setting, where a larger number of seamounts with different ages occurred in the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. This paper reports on the petrography, geochemistry, and geochronology of late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the Wenkutu area of the northern Great Xing'an Range, North‐east China, and discusses the formation age, petrogenesis, and tectonic environment of the Manketouebo, Manitu, Baiyingaolao, and Meiletu formations. Results of Zircon U–Pb dating show that the volcanic rocks in the Wenkutu area were formed during the Early Cretaceous (Manketouebo Formation at 145 ± 1 Ma, Manitu Formation at 141.3 ± 1.7 Ma, Baiyingaolao Formation at 128.7 ± 1.1 Ma, and Meiletu Formation at 129 ± 1 Ma). The Manketouebo, Manitu, and Baiyingaolao formations are dominated by intermediate to acid volcanic rocks that belong to the high‐K calc‐alkaline series, with Eu/Eu* values of 0.38–0.84.They are enriched in light rare earth elements (LREE) and depleted in heavy rare earth elements (HREE). The Meiletu Formation is dominated by intermediate to basic volcanic rocks, belongs to the high‐K calc‐alkaline series, has Eu/Eu* values of 0.89–0.97, and is enriched in Ba, K, Th, U, La, Ce, Sr, Nd, and Hf but relatively depleted in Nb, Ta, Zr, P, and Ti, with no obvious fractionation of LREE and HREE. Results indicate that the magma of the Manketouebo, Manitu, and Baiyingaolao formations had a crustal origin, whereas the Meiletu Formation was sourced from the mantle and subsequently contaminated by crustal materials. The late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the study area were formed during an orogenic stage, and the compressional environment was caused by subduction of the paleo‐Pacific Plate below the Asian continental plate. The Qibaoshan ore area is located in Wulian town, Shandong Province, which is an important polymetallic metallogenic zone containing gold, copper, lead, and zinc. The polymetallic mineralization is mostly related to the Qibaoshan complex. The Qibaoshan complex is composed mainly of pyroxene diorite, andesitic porphyrite, pyroxene andesite porphyrite, amphibole andesite porphyrite, diorite porphyrite, and granodiorite porphyry, among which granodiorite–porphyry is the main wall rock of gold and copper ore body, whereas lead and zinc mineralization is closely related to diorite porphyrite. A combined study of laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry zircon U–Pb dating and geochemical analyses (major and trace elements) for 5 Mesozoic plutons from the Qibaoshan complex was carried out to determine their ages, petrogenesis, and tectonic setting. The U–Pb zircon ages measured by laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry indicate that the Qibaoshan complex was emplaced in 3 stages, represented by the ~175 Ma pyroxene diorite, ~129 Ma andesitic porphyrite/ porphyrite, ~125 Ma granodiorite‐porphyry, and ~112 Ma diorite porphyrite. Systematic diagenetic chronology and rock geochemistry show that formation of ~175 Ma pyroxene diorite in Qibaoshan ore‐concentrated area is possibly related to the transformation environment from compression to extension of the Sulu orogenic belt and/or of the subduction of the Pacific Plate, whereas the formation of the Early Cretaceous subvolcanic rock has a volcanic arc affinity related to subduction of the Pacific Plate. Based on the previous studies, this paper argues that the metallogenic age of Qibaoshan polymetallic ore‐concentrated area is 125–105 Ma, which is formed in the volcanic arc dynamics environment of the Pacific Plate subduction in the Late Yanshanian. In addition, a small amount of 610–799 Ma and 1.8 Ga was developed in the samples of the pyroxene diorite and andesitic porphyrite, suggesting their source may have great affinities with South China. Mud volcanoes are significant indicators of neotectonic activity and have important research significance. Mud volcanoes can not only be used as an important index for the long‐term evaluation of oil and gas fields but are also an important symbol for locating gas hydrates in the seabed. Additionally, the eruption of mud volcanoes will affect drilling, pipe laying, and other projects, and the eruption of large amounts of methane gas can also cause greenhouse effects and climate change. The trigger mechanisms of mud volcanoes have always been a focus of debate among geologists. In recent years, many scholars have argued that mud volcanoes are triggered by earthquake activity. However, the stress and strain caused by earthquakes and their control mechanisms on the eruption of mud volcanoes still require further study. This paper is based on the calculated results of static stresses caused by the M5.5 Wusu earthquake of May 2, 1995, the M5.4 Shawan earthquake of January 9, 1996, the M5.3 Shihezi earthquake of February 14, 2003, and the M6.3 Xinyuan–Hejing earthquake of June 30, 2012, on the Horgos, Dushanzi, Aiqigou, and Baiyanggou mud volcanoes distributed in the southern margin of the Junggar Basin, NW China. The calculated static stresses, the earthquake response characteristics of these four groups of mud volcanoes, and the continuous observational data of the Horgos mud volcanoes showed that static stresses from these earthquakes did not reach the triggering threshold, though the mud volcanoes exhibited a good relationship with earthquakes. We speculate that static stress may not be the main triggering mechanism for the mud volcanoes and that the mechanisms of earthquake triggering may be divided into two types: (a) For a mud volcano in a critical state before an earthquake, dynamic stress changes may trigger eruption of the mud volcano by increasing permeability and mobilizing magma; (b) for mud volcanoes that have not yet reached the critical eruption state before an earthquake, both static and dynamic stresses play roles in their activities. The Eastern Yanbian area, Northeast China is tectonically located in the easternmost margin of the Xing'an Mongolian Orogenic Belt, which is a key area for providing important evidence of mineral deposits to constrain the tectonic evolution of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. Five quartz‐vein‐type scheelite deposits have been identified in the eastern Yanbian area. These deposits are hosted within the late Palaeozoic metamorphic and granitic rocks and form under the identical hydrothermal mineralization. Zircon U–Pb ages and whole‐rock geochemistry of the ore‐hosting biotite granite and Sm–Nd ages of scheelite crystals within quartz veins are presented in this paper. Zircon U–Pb dating of the biotite granite yields a weighted mean age of 251.9 ± 2.2 Ma (mean standard weighted deviation (MSWD) = 4), and Sm–Nd dating of scheelite samples yields an isochron age of 251.7 ± 2.9 Ma (MSWD = 0.87), which constrains the scheelite mineralization in Eastern Yanbian to the late Permian. Our results, integrated with published geochronological data, indicate three periods of Phanerozoic W mineralization in Northeast China, (a) Cambrian, (b) late Permian (this work), and (c) Jurassic. Geochemical data reveal that the biotite granite is a calc‐alkaline I‐type granite, and it exhibits enrichment in large‐ion lithophile and light rare earth elements and depletion in high‐field‐strength and heavy rare earth elements (especially in Nb and Ta), consistent with the characteristics of arc magma. The subduction‐related biotite granite intrusion and quartz‐vein‐type scheelite mineralization together indicate that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean had not closed before the late Permian in the Eastern Yanbian area, and its final closure occurred in the Early‐Middle Triassic. The late Permian subduction of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean induced the partial melting of the lower crust, thus forming the magmatic arc activity and related quartz‐vein‐type scheelite mineralization, which clearly justifies the proposed tectonic–metallogenic model. Structural evolution of the Paleoproterozoic Jiao‐Liao‐Ji orogenic belt in eastern North China Craton has been a subject of extensive study in the past decades. Studies of the characteristics of the crustal structure during orogenesis are essential to the understanding of the formation and evolution of the orogenic belt. In this paper, we present detailed studies of deformed amphibolites in the southern part of the orogenic belt to illustrate the changes of deformation conditions and variation of deformation mechanisms during the orogenic processes. Based on differences in structural characteristics of foliations, amphibolites from the Paleoproterozoic South Liaohe Group at Caohekou–Jiguanshan area are subdivided into four types (massive, weak‐gneissic, moderate‐gneissic, and strong‐gneissic). Our study shows that the different characteristics in microstructures, rock fabrics, and deformation mechanisms of the amphibolites were resulted from varying temperatures and pressures in relation to the tectonic deformation. The widely distributed massive amphibolites (P = 0.39 GPa, T = 639°C) display no or weak deformation, which is inferred to represent steady‐state crystallization. Weak‐gneissic amphibolites (P = 0.52 GPa, T = 753°C) were resulted from stress‐controlled grain growth. Amphiboles in such rocks show obvious (100) LPOs but minor evidence for crystal plastic deformation. Evidences for crystal plastic deformation of amphibole grains are common in moderate‐gneissic amphibolites (P = 0.61 GPa, T = 771°C). The amphibole grains have strong (100) and (001) LPOs. Dislocation slip is considered as the main deformation mechanism of the amphibole grains in the rocks. Both subgrains and mechanical twins of amphiboles from strong‐gneissic amphibolites (P = 0.77 GPa, T = 686°C) are long‐columnar shaped and show the same orientation as their host crystals. They are resulted from reactivation of (100)(001) slip system controlled by dynamic recrystallization, twinning, and twinning nucleation recrystallization. The evident pressure difference from 0.39 to 0.77 GPa during the formation of the various types of amphibolites may be related to the tectonic thickening during contractional orogenesis. The Kaiyuan tectonic mélange makes up the western part of the Kaiyuan–Yanji Accretionary Complex Belt, NE China, and there has been a long‐standing controversy about its age and tectonic setting. In this paper, we present new zircon U–Pb ages and geochemical data for the mafic rocks of the Lujiapuzi Formation in the Kaiyuan tectonic mélange, and these data provide insights into the tectonic setting during the late Paleozoic and the evolutionary history of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean in the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). SHRIMP U–Pb dating of zircons from samples of albite–actinolite schist and amphibolite yielded a crystallization age of 258 ± 5.5 Ma for the protoliths, suggesting that the protoliths formed during the late Permian. The albite–actinolite schists and amphibolites have similar geochemical characteristics, and they represent metamorphosed basaltic volcanic rocks. Major, rare earth and trace element data show that the mafic rocks have a close affinity with mid‐ocean ridge basalt. REE petrogenetic modelling indicates that the primary magma was generated through the partial melting of a mixed garnet‐ and spinel‐bearing mantle source, and assimilated crustal material and underwent crystal fractionation during ascent. The geochemical features and inherited/xenocrystic zircons in the mafic samples indicate that they formed in a tectonic setting similar to the back‐arc basin. These new findings, together with other previously published data, indicate that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean still existed in the eastern segment of the CAOB during the late Permian to Early Triassic. The Kaiyuan tectonic mélange formed during the Middle Triassic, and its formation may represent the timing of final closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study on deformation characters of the Liaohe Group, exposed in eastern Liaoning Province, NE China, provides a key constraint on the tectonic evolution of the Palaeoproterozoic Liao–Ji active belt in the eastern part of the North China Craton (NCC). In this paper, the deformation pattern and mechanism of the Dashiqiao Fm. from Liaohe Group in Hupiyu area have been systematically studied. The present results show that the structure of the investigated Dashiqiao Fm. exhibits a SW bedding‐parallel thrust shearing which is dominated by simple shearing. Simultaneously, S‐SL tectonites were formed under directional flattening. The deformed quartz grains show obvious dislocation slip which is mainly controlled by the low temperature system of the basal slip system, while calcites mainly develop in low temperature with twin slip. Based on microstructural analysis coupled with fabric features, we estimated that the strain rate is 10−12.78–10−8.32 s−1 under the deformation temperature of 350–400°C with a differential stress of 27.3–44.9 MPa. Our macrostructural–microstructural investigation together with previous researches indicates that the Liaohe Group suffered a bedding‐parallel sliding with top‐to‐outside away from the granite body in the core of Hupiyu anticline, corresponding to the uplift of the Hupiyu granite in the early extensional stage. Subsequently, the Hupiyu area suffered SW–NE compression which resulted in the overturn of the southern limb of the Hupiyu anticline and the top‐to‐SW thrusting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Early Precambrian magmatism in the Archean–Palaeoproterozoic basement Yudongzi Complex is critical for understanding the early crustal formation and evolutionary history of the Yangtze Block in the South China Craton. In this paper, combined zircon UPb geochronological, zircon Hf isotopic, and whole‐rock geochemical studies are carried out on the granitoid gneisses from the Yudongzi Complex, north‐western Yangtze Block. The magmatic zircons from the granitoid gneiss yield a UPb upper intercept age of 2,477±18 Ma, interpreted as the crystallization age of the granitoid gneiss. The granitoid gneiss samples are characterized by high Al2O3 contents, moderate to high Sr/Y, (La/Yb)N and Na2O/K2O ratios, no obvious Eu and Sr anomalies, and depleted Nb, Ta, and Ti values that are similar to those of Archean trondhjemite–tonalite–granodiorite (TTG) suites, indicating that the investigated rocks belonging to TTG‐series rocks. They display pronounced enriched‐LREE patterns with high La/Yb values and relatively high Zr/Sm and Eu/Eu* but low Nb/Ta and Dy/Yb ratios, implying that these rocks were formed by partial melting within amphibolite‐facies conditions with mainly residual amphibole, garnet, and accessory rutile in the magma source. These rocks also display apparently low MgO, Mg#, Ni, and Cr contents, suggesting derivation from partial melting of thickened ancient lower crust. Zircon εHf(t) values from the granitoid gneiss sample vary from −10.1 to −6.9 with TDM2 of ca. 3.59–3.40 Ga, what demonstrates their crustal source nature as well. Thus, taking all these factors together, we propose that the ca. 2.48 Ga granitoid gneisses in the Yudongzi Complex might have been produced by partial melting of ancient crust material under amphibolite‐facies conditions, with primarily residual assemblages of amphibole, garnet, and attached rutile. Taking together our new data and such from previous studies, the Yangtze Block has been probably involved into a significant reworking of ancient crust event during the Early Palaeoproterozoic time. The tectonic setting of the Alxa Tectonic Belt (ATB) during the late Palaeozoic is highly controversial. The nature and tectonic origin of the late Palaeozoic magmatism in the ATB are key to resolving the current controversy. This paper provides field, petrographic, geochemical, and zircon U‐Pb‐Hf isotopic data for the late Palaeozoic granitoids and volcanic rocks from the south‐western ATB. The granitoids display a wide range of SiO2 contents from diorite, granodiorite, to granites, with widely distributed hydrous minerals such as hornblende and biotite. They are calc‐alkaline to high‐potassium calc‐alkaline, metaluminous with an enrichment of light rare earth elements and large‐ion lithophile elements (LILE), and a depletion of high‐field‐strength elements (HFSE). The presence of mafic‐intermediate enclaves in the plutons suggests the role of crust–mantle interaction in generating the granitoids. The volcanic rocks show "block‐in‐matrix" structures in the field. They are dacite‐porphyry and rhyolite and show calc‐alkaline characteristics with an enrichment of LILE and a depletion of HFSE. Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry zircon U‐Pb dating shows that the granitoids and enclaves crystallized during ~317–287 Ma and the dacite porphyry formed at ~295 Ma. Hf‐in‐zircon isotopic compositions reveal predominately positive εHf (t) values and Neoproterozoic TDMC ages for the magmatic rocks, indicating mixing between mantle‐derived magma and Precambrian basement during their genesis. The diagnostic field, geochemical data, and isotopic data imply these rocks were generated in a subduction‐related active continental margin setting. The presence of A2‐type granite indicates an extensional environment resulted from slab rollback in a retreating accretionary context can best interpret the large‐scale late Carboniferous–early Permian magmatism in the ATB. Our new data, combined with published data, imply that a large active continental margin existed in the Beishan, Alxa, and the northern margin of the North China Craton, due to the south‐dipping subduction of the Palaeo‐Asian Ocean (PAO) in the late Palaeozoic. The exploration achievements in the eastern‐central Ordos Basin have attracted tremendous attention in recent years. However, only a few studies were carried out on the relationship between formation pressure and distribution of natural gas in this area. The formation pressure of 293 wells, logging data of 154 wells, and fluid inclusion samples of 53 wells were analysed in this paper, and the results show that the mudstones from Permian Upper Shihezi Formation to Permian Taiyuan Formation are mostly undercompacted. Four gas‐bearing layers with significant differences in pressure profile can be further divided into Permian negative pressure system and Carboniferous normal pressure system. The distribution of current formation pressure is high in the east and north areas but low in the west and south areas. The sedimentary facies and distribution of formation pressure in Permian have a good consistency. The vertical development (zonation) of gas reservoirs is controlled by the undercompacted mudstone layers, and the reservoirs can be found in the “low pressure” areas of negative pressure strata in the Permian and “high pressure” regions of normal pressure strata in the Carboniferous. The pressure evolution and accumulation process can be divided into 3 stages: hydrocarbon‐generation supercharging accumulation during Late Jurassic—end of Early Cretaceous, sandstone resilience discharging accumulation during end of Early Cretaceous—Paleogene, and adjusting accumulation during Paleogene—Quaternary. The Katebasu gold (Au)–copper (Cu) deposit is one of the extra large‐scale Au–Cu deposits discovered in the western Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang in the recent years. The geological characteristics of the deposit have not been systematically studied and summarized, and there is considerable debate about the deposit type and metallogenic epoch. In this paper, we studied the Katebasu Au–Cu deposit orebody production characteristics, ore mineral composition, structural tectonic, surrounding rock alteration, and metallogenic phases. We identified the deposit types, presented a new discussion on the metallogenic epoch combined with the study of garnet Sm–Nd chronology, and indicate that the deposit type is a skarn type–fracture zone alteration rock type. The skarn‐type Cu–Au deposit is mainly distributed in the fault fracture zone and skarn in the contact zone between the rock mass and marble strata. The fracture zone alteration‐type Au–Cu deposit is mainly distributed in the monzonite granite fracture zone. The mining area has two phases of metallogenesis, which are related to monzonite granite and diorite dykes, respectively, and have a certain degree of superposition in space. The Tarim Block contains important information of the Precambrian crustal evolution of the Earth. In this paper, we present detailed petrographic and in situ zircon U–Pb and Hf isotopes data for the Palaeoproterozoic host rocks (gneiss and gneissic granite) of the Shuangfengling gold deposit in the Quruqtagh terrane in order to constrain their ages and magma sources and discuss their tectonic environments. Zircon laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry data indicated that the host rocks (gneiss and gneissic granite) of the Shuangfengling gold deposit were formed at 1948 ± 17 and 1944 ± 13 Ma, respectively, and all underwent a metamorphism immediately after magma emplacement. The Hf isotopic signatures, negative εHf(t) values and older Archean two‐stage Hf model ages, of the studied rocks suggested that the magmas of these rocks were derived by crustal reworking in a manner similar to the magmatism related to a collisional orogeny. The Qarhan Desert in the Qaidam Basin is a high‐elevation geomorphic depression characterized by low temperatures, resulting in an environment similar to those predicted to exist on Mars. As a result, this desert has attracted many aeolian researchers. However, relatively little research has addressed the factors that control dune formation in this region. In this paper, we used observational wind data and sediment characteristics to analyze the formation and development of 3 dune types. The spatial distribution of the Qarhan Desert dune types is controlled by both wind regime and surface characteristics (primarily surface barriers, i.e., yardangs). Linear dunes formed on the leeside of yardangs and became elongated under a bimodal wind regime. The elongation direction of the linear dunes (295°) was similar to the direction of potential sand transport (290° to 296°). Linear dune development experienced different erosion and deposition processes under different climate regimes, and the dunes can be divided into developed and developing linear dunes at present. The movement of developed linear dunes included elongation and lateral movement; however, the movement of developing linear dunes was restricted to elongation. The East Kunlun Orogen (EKO), as the west segment of the Central China Orogen, is the most important Triassic polymetallic metallogenic belt in China. In this paper, we summarize the geological characteristics (stratigraphy, structure, ore‐related plutons, wall rock alteration, and orebodies), ore‐forming fluids and materials, geochronology, and petro‐geochemistry of the representative porphyry–skarn Cu–polymetallic deposits, including the Saishitang, Hutouya, and Kaerqueka deposits in the EKO. The porphyry–skarn Cu deposits in the EKO are mainly distributed in tectonic units of the Qimantagh Belt and the Elashan Belt. Among them, the skarn Cu deposits provide the majority of Cu resources, which mainly occur in the contact zone between the Triassic granitoids and the volcanic–sedimentary rocks (e.g., the Ordovician–Silurian Tanjianshan Group and the Early to Middle Triassic Hongshuichuan Group), and the skarn and orebodies are mainly controlled by interlayer–gliding structures. Ore‐forming fluids of the porphyry Cu deposits are magmatic mixed with meteoric water, whereas the fluids of skarn Cu deposits are mainly of magmatic origin. The higher δ18O (>10‰) of garnet and pyroxene in prograde skarn and wide range of sulphur isotopic compositions (δ34S values from −8.9‰ to 11.0‰) suggest that ore‐forming materials of skarn Cu deposits were partially derived from the country rocks. Based on detailed field investigations, we identified four Cu mineralization types, including veinlet–disseminated Cu (Mo, Au) mineralization occurring within the intrusions, proximal skarn Cu (Fe, Pb, Zn, Au) mineralization, distal skarn Cu mineralization, and distal skarn Pb–Zn (Cu) mineralization. The porphyry–skarn Cu deposits are associated with magmatism that occurred mainly during 235–218 Ma. The ore‐related granitoids are mostly calc‐alkaline I‐type granites, derived from partial melting of the Precambrian basement rocks with various degrees of involvement of mantle components. Combined with the regional tectonic evolution, we conclude that the Cu mineralization in the EKO began with the closure of A'nyemaqen Ocean (~238 Ma) and subsequently culminated in a postcollisional setting (~225 Ma). The Sulige gas field is a typical low permeability gas field with multi‐thin layer of pay zones. The upper member of the Shanxi Formation (Shan1) is the primary productive layer of the Su6‐Zhao42 area, located in the north‐west of the Shanbei Slope of the Sulige gas field. The Shan1 Member could be divided into 3 tiny sequences by coring and well logging data. On the basis of sedimentary sequence analysis, the sedimentary environment and facies are studied combined with lithological information, logging data, and sampling. This paper summarizes the characteristics and distribution of the sedimentary facies of the Shan1 Member in the Su6‐Zhao42 area. During the deposition of the Shan1 Member, this area developed a meandering river sedimentary facies, which can be subdivided into meandering riverbed, river floodplain, and abandoned channel subfacies. The sedimentary facies of meandering river in the Shan1 Member are characterized by point bars, crevasse splays, floodplains, flood swamps, and abandoned channels. The sedimentary facies bands extend roughly east‐west parallel to the meandering river. It is indicated that the sand bodies deposited in river channel have better physical conditions and larger thickness for gas accumulation based on the analysis of physical characteristics and seismic attributes. The southwestern area of the Ordos Basin, China, contains good oil/gas systems, similar to the main basin. However, no oil/gas reserves have been found because some magmatic rocks with different occurrences developed in the region, it resulted in the suspension of oil/gas exploration in the 1980s. By means of integrated research based on field investigation, geophysical interpretation, and data of drilling wells, this paper indicates that magmatic activities in the southwestern Ordos Basin display different properties over multiple periods. The Proterozoic and Palaeozoic magmatic rocks are mainly distributed as a large batholith in the Qinling Orogen, and the Qilian Orogen around the southwestern margin of the Ordos Basin. These Proterozoic and Paleozoic plutons have no effect on hydrocarbon source rocks and oil/gas generation in the Ordos Basin. However, the Mesozoic magmatic activities developed within the basin have obvious effects on oil/gas generation. Three kinds of exploration regions were selected within the southwestern Ordos Basin according to the distribution of hydrocarbon source and magmatic rocks as well as the thermal degree: (a) the marginal area of the basin, (b) the region of the Longmen Uplift distributed with concealed magmatic rocks within the basin, and (c) the region within the basin far away from concealed magmatic rocks. Three sets of gas source rocks, that is, the Upper Proterozoic algal dolostone, the Middle Ordovician dark shale, the Upper Paleozoic black mudstone of coal system, and one set of oil source rocks of the Upper Triassic lacustrine black mudstone and oil shale, are exposed in outcrops near the margin of the basin. They all display a low thermal degree with vitrinite reflectance (Ro) below 1.3%, and they do not contribute to oil/gas accumulation because of earlier tectonic uplift. The gas source rocks and oil source rocks, which occur within the basin area of the Longmen Uplift, where the concealed magmatic rocks, display an abnormal thermal degree of over maturation with Ro over 3.4% and underwent dry gas generation because of heating from magmatic activity, and they have gas exploration potential. The source rocks distributed within the basin area away from concealed magmatic rocks display a normal thermal degree and oil/gas generation. The Ro of the Upper Triassic oil source rock is 1.0–1.6%, which is under the thermal maturity stage of liquid oil generation, whereas that of the Upper Paleozoic gas source rocks is 2.0–2.5% under the thermal maturity stage of gas generation. Measured Ro and burial depth of source rocks in the region show a linear relationship, which indicate that source rocks experienced thermal evolution and oil/gas generation under the normal burial thermal condition rather than the magmatic activity. The arid region in the northern part of China is a bridge between China and neighbouring countries in the Silk Road Economic Belt, and the severe desertification in this region restricts its sustainable development. In this paper, MODIS data, including albedo, reflectance, normalized vegetation index, and land surface temperature, were selected in 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015 to construct a decision tree to extract spatio‐temporal information of the desertified land in the arid area. The trend in desertification and transfer directions was analysed by the GIS method, and the dynamic characteristics of the desertification at different units (provincial administrative unit and typical sandy land) and with different topographic factors (slope and aspect) are discussed. Our conclusions include (a) desertification in the arid region in the northern part of China showed improvement overall and local deterioration. The deteriorating areas were located primarily in the western region of the Hunshandake Sandy Land, the tectonic zone of the Taklimakan Desert, and the Qaidam Basin; (b) the degree of desertification transfer occurred primarily at adjacent levels; (c) the desertified area in each province showed a different trend in fluctuation, and Maowusu Sandy Land recovered better among the 4 large sands; and (d) the desertified area was distributed primarily along 0o–3o slopes and showed a rapid decline at increased slopes. The change in the degree of desertification in each aspect largely was a general reversal, and the area of the north aspect was larger than that of other areas of aspects. The Palaeo-Asian Ocean (PAO) was located between Siberia and the North China Craton (NCC). The time of its closure, as well as the crustal architecture of the surrounding region, are still uncertain. In this paper, we address these problems using LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of zircon grains in three magmatic rocks and three river sand samples of the Guyang area at the northern margin of the NCC. The magmatic rocks yield early Carboniferous crystallization ages of 340.3 ± 7.5 Ma, 331.7 ± 2.3 Ma and 341.1 ± 1.9 Ma for the main granitic pluton, a granodiorite dyke and a diorite enclave, respectively. They were the product of subduction of the PAO underneath the NCC. The detrital zircon U-Pb ages in the river sand samples are dominated by two groups at 2550-2400 and 290-260 Ma, with subordinate groups at 2700-2600, 2000-1800 and 320-300 Ma, dispersed Early Palaeoproterozoic grains and a minor but important group of Cretaceous grains in sands of the Aibugai River. These results, combined with previous geochronological data, permit a re-assessment of the tectonic evolution of the northern margin of the NCC. The events at ~2.5 Ga reflect major crustal reworking and cratonization of the northern margin of the NCC, which then became a stable platform lasting until the Carboniferous. The period between 2.0 and 1.8 Ga was characterized by major collisions related to formation of the Khondalite Belt and the Trans-North China Orogen. In the Carboniferous, subduction of the PAO underneath the northern margin of the NCC developed a zoned distribution of magmatic rocks. The PAO is now constrained to have closed in the Early Permian by the collision of the NCC and Siberia. To study the distribution characteristics of the Moho interface and the relationship between the Moho depth and the main sedimentary basins in the southern South China Sea and its adjacent areas, this paper adopts gravity anomaly data and multi-scale decomposition of two-dimension discrete wavelet transform to analyse the gravity field and the characteristics of the multi-order decomposition in the study area. Through the method of Parker-Oldenburg Iterative Inversion, the Moho depth of the study area has been obtained based on four-order approximation of Bouguer anomaly and constrained by the data of the CRUST1.0 model. By analysis and comparison, the optimum inversion parameters and the final inversion results of the Parker-Oldenburg Iterative Inversion have been explored. The distribution of the Moho depth in the study area takes on a double 'V'-type characteristic. In addition, the Moho morphology of the three main kinds of basins in the study area has also been concluded. The crustal thickness of the sedimentary basin indicates, in the case of the nature of the basins' crust, that the transition from north to south is from continental crust to transitional crust. These results provide the basis for further study of the gravity field, the deep geological structure in the southern South China Sea and the prediction of oil and gas prospects. The East China Sea Shelf Basin (ECSSB), the Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB) and the Taixinan Basin (TXNB) in the northern continental margin of the South China Sea (SCS) are important oil- and gas-bearing basins on the Western Pacific Continental Margin. During the Paleocene to Late Miocene, their strata can be compared, and the lithofacies were continuous from the TXNB, via the Taixi Basin (TXB) to the ECSSB. The lithologies mainly consist of interbedded shale, sandstone and mudstone layers. In addition, these basins have similar tectonic and sedimentation features. The three basins had similar marine-terrigenous facies in the Paleocene and marine-lacustrine-fluvial facies during the Eocene and Late Miocene. The basins experienced several coeval tectonic movements and episodes, and they developed a series of NE- and NNE-trending faults during the Paleocene and Eocene, which controlled the structure of the basins. During the Early Oligocene and Middle Miocene, they developed a series of NW- and WNW-trending strike-slip faults, reverse folds and flower-like strike-slip faults. However, there were obvious differences in sedimentary and tectonic evolution since the Late Miocene. The TXNB and TXB developed marine facies after the Late Miocene, while in the Quaternary, open marine facies replaced the Pliocene terrigenous facies in the ECSSB. Since the Late Miocene, the south of the ECSSB developed into a subsidence stage, and fault activity stopped. The TXB and TXNB developed some inverse structures and then developed into a thermal subsidence episode after the Dongsha Movement. Thus, this paper proposes that the ECSSB and the Cenozoic basins in the SCS were originally a unified basin and then subsequently separated into two basins as a result of the indentation of the Philippine Sea Plate (PSP) and the arc-continent collision between the Luzon Arc and the Eurasian Plate. This paper addresses the surface and Holocene aeolian deposits in the southeastern Mu Us Desert, N. China, systematically analysing the evolution of the geochemical characteristics of aeolian sand-palaeosol sequences and their environmental significance. Our results indicate that the geochemical components of the Holocene aeolian deposits and surface deposits had the similar material sources, sediment transport and deposition processes in the study region, which were dominated by SiO2, Al2O3, and Na2O. In the weathering process of the Jinjie (JJ) profile, the Na, K, and Si presented the slight leaching and migration in general, while the other elements were relatively accumulated. The Holocene aeolian deposits and surface deposits incurred weaker geochemical weathering under cold and dry conditions and were only weakly leached, which implies a relatively arid environment in the Holocene epoch and the modern era. The weathering degree was controlled by the regional temperature and precipitation, and was probably more sensitive to the precipitation changes. In the sedimentary profile, the geochemical parameters and migration of elements demonstrated that there have been several alternating warm-wet and cold-dry intervals in the Mu Us Desert in the Holocene epoch; there were relatively warm and wet conditions prior to 4.6 ka, and it has been cold and dry since then. Six millennial-scale dry events were recorded during the Holocene, which were not only accordant with the history of palaeoclimatic changes in the different latitudes and archives of the Northern Hemisphere, but also correspond to the millennial-scale variation of cosmic radiation and solar activity during that period. The Junggar Basin is one of the main oil basins in Northwest China, and the north‐west part of the basin is a significant petroleum exploration target. Mesozoic structural activity had an important influence on the present structural characteristics of the north‐west Junggar Basin. In this paper, we discuss the tectonic evolution of the Junggar Basin by studying the structural characteristics of the Ke‐Bai Fault. Our results suggest that the Ke‐Bai Fault has obvious strike‐slip characteristics and that it is an important basin‐controlling fault that has controlled the tectonic evolution of the north‐west Junggar Basin. The Junggar Basin was a rift basin in the Early Permian, but it experienced a tectonic reversal during the Middle Permian to the Triassic. The Ke‐Bai Fault changed from a normal fault into a thrust fault from the Early Permian to the Triassic. During the Jurassic, dextral strike‐slip structures developed along the Ke‐Bai Fault, horsetail splay faults developed in its north segment, and there is evidence that it was under WNW–ESE compression. The dextral strike‐slip faulting of the Ke‐Bai Fault is consistent with tectonic movement along the Kelameili, Sangequan, Wu‐Xia, Hong‐Che, and North Tianshan fault systems in the Junggar Basin. Abnormal pressure is considered significant for the migration and accumulation of oil and gas. The purpose of this study is to present the lateral and vertical distribution of underpressure conditions in the Huimin Depression determined using the drill stem tests (DSTs) and the well log data. This paper also provides the origins of the underpressure both qualitatively and quantitatively, as well as the effects of the underpressure on the distribution of hydrocarbons. The results show two vertical underpressure units at depths of 1,500–2,500 m and 3,000–4,000 m with a pressure coefficient of 0.8–0.95. Laterally, the underpressure is mainly distributed in the Northern Tectonic Uplift Belt (NTUB) and Southern Slope Belt (SSB). The rock dilation and temperature reduction caused the pressure reductions of 3–4 and 1–3 MPa, respectively. The diffusion of natural gas plays a limited role on the underpressure. An analysis of the lateral seals of faults indicates that the underpressured regions developed in areas with faults with shale gouge ratio (SGR) values larger than 0.6. We propose that the widely distributed underpressure in the Huimin Depression is related to rock dilation, temperature reduction, and fault sealing. An analysis of hydrocarbon migration and reservoirs showed the pumping effect provided by the deficient pressure could make underpressured regions the primary targets for hydrocarbon accumulation, and in the Huimin Depression, underpressure might be more important than overpressure. The Late Palaeozoic Solonker‐Xar Moron‐Changchun‐Yanji Suture (SXCYS) is considered to mark the location of the final closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean, which separated the North China Craton to the south and the amalgamated blocks to the north in Northeast China. There has always been controversy about its eastern extension in Northeast China and the final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. To explore this issue, we collected gabbro and quartz‐diorite samples in the Hunchun area for the genesis of mafic magma and age dating, and five groups of Permian to Triassic sandstones belonging to both sides of the potential suture locations in the middle and east Jilin Province for the provenance analysis to discuss the final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean and the possible positions of the eastward termination of the SXCYS. The gabbro reveals a Middle Permian concordia average age of 266.9 ± 5.2 Ma, and the quartz diorite reveals a Late Permian Concordia average age of 258.8 ± 4.8 Ma. Lithological and geochemical analysis reveal the two rock samples belong to low‐K arc tholeiites from the oceanic island and calk‐alkaline volcanics from the active continental margin, respectively, which implies that during the middle to late Permian, the SW margin of the Jiamusi–Khanka Block (JB) continuously experienced the subduction process from the Paleo‐Asian Ocean Plate. The final closure time of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean should be later than the Late Permian. Meanwhile, four groups of sandstone from the east Jilin reveal typically Jiamusi–Mongolia Block (JMB) provenance features, with age components of ~500 Ma, ~0.9–1.5 Ga implying that the Wangqing, Hunchun, Kaishantun area belongs to the northern part of the SXCYS from late Early Permian to Middle Triassic, with youngest age components of 288.2 ± 2.8, 275.5 ± 1.8, 250 ± 1.7, and 244.9 ± 1.7 Ma, respectively. The late Early Permian sandstone from the middle Jilin reveals the youngest age component of 273.8 ± 3.4 Ma and the age component of 487 ± 3 Ma also revealing JMB feature. Comparing to previous studies, we propose that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean finally closed during Middle to Late Triassic. A possible ENE fault separates the eastern extension of SXCYS into two parts, which means the possible position of the eastward extension of the SXCYS should go along the Wangqing‐Kaishantun with NNW direction in the west, Hunchun‐Laoheishan with NW direction in the east. In response to the need to improve innovation performance to stay competitive in the industry, enterprises in the region of Jiangsu have adopted a green technology orientation to develop sustainable technologies and regional market orientation to fulfil the needs and wants of environment‐conscious customers. This study assessed the relationship between green technology and regional market orientation and innovation performance and the moderating role of structural and relational embeddedness. The study performed a quantitative assessment using a survey method to collect data. This study gathered data from 386 respondents from small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) from Jiangsu, which showed that both green technology and regional market orientation are essential predictors of innovation performance. Moreover, this study found a substantial moderating impact of structural and relational embeddedness on the relationship between green technology and regional market orientation and innovation performance of SMEs. The relationship between natural resources and environmental damage significantly affects the ecosystem, and technological advancements are essential to managing these issues. However, funding unfavourable environmental initiatives financially has prompted several concerns about establishing a clear connection between the environment and financial market items. The relationship between natural resources, technology and innovation for sustainable development in China from 2000 to 2021 is examined in this study. In order to investigate the highlighted link, the research makes use of a variety of econometric tools, including the Augmented Mean Group, Common Correlated Effects Mean Group and Driscoll‐Kraay estimators. The cointegration findings based on Westerlund J. (2007) demonstrate that the study's specified variables have a long‐run equilibrium connection across the examined time. According to empirical research, environmental deterioration is caused by technology, natural resources, foreign direct investment and total reserves, whereas technical innovation and renewable energy lower CO2 emissions. Additionally, the connection between technical innovation and industrial value‐added has a detrimental effect on the ecology in the Chinese provinces. Based on these findings, China's provinces are urged to promote green technology development while maintaining the bloc's high environmental protection standards. Landscape ecology is vital and significantly contributes to the country's social and economic growth. This concept is directly linked with sustainable development goals, and a growing potential exists that landscape ecology will replace conventional landscaping practices as the authoritative framework for environmentally responsible landscaping. Decentralizing spatial planning policy requires local actors to work together to determine what physical changes must be made to the environment to reflect their respective values. To be applicable in such bottom‐up landscape‐development processes, this study checks the relationship between the landscape ecological perspective and the financial development of China over the period 1995–2021 by using the autoregressive distributed lag model. The findings indicated that green investment, environmental pressure and energy consumption play a significant role in China's financial development. Landscape ecological research should pay more attention to these dilemmas as a unifying common ground to produce a joint knowledge base that can be incorporated into multifunctional, actor‐led landscape development. This research adds value to the modern pattern‐process model in landscape ecology by developing this idea into a knowledgeable framework. Subsequently, this study promotes green investment activities and consumption of energy sources so that landscape ecology aims should be obtained through interdisciplinary research. The global economic recession caused by COVID‐19 has posed a severe threat to the feasibility of renewable energy projects, hampering the United Nation (UN) sustainable development goals. Sustainable financing (SF) is a crucial instrument for promoting investment in renewable energy (IRE) sources, as it is regarded as a crucial aspect in achieving long‐term sustainability. This study sheds insight on the impact of SF, geopolitical risk (GPR), economic growth (EG), and environmental regulation (ER) on IRE sources by evaluating 10 years of data from 35 Chinese energy businesses from 2012 to 2021. The data analysis is done by utilizing quantile regression and dynamic analytic techniques, demonstrating that SF, EG, and ER have a significant positive effect on IRE sources. However, GPR has a significant detrimental impact on IRE in China. This is one of the early studies to examine the crucial role of SF, GPR, EG, and ER in IRE, which is critical for environmental sustainability. In addition, it provides policymakers and environmentalists with crucial insights for developing and executing environmental strategies that can deliver long‐term benefits and meet SD goals. Volatile element abundance is a crucial factor triggering mineralization and controlling the enrichment of molybdenum in porphyry deposits. The Chalukou deposit is the largest porphyry Mo deposit in NE China, with an average grade of 0.087% Mo. In this contribution, we present petrology, bulk geochemistry, zircon U–Pb geochronology and Lu–Hf isotopes, and apatite geochemistry for the Chalukou deposit. The intrusive rocks include pre‐mineralization monzogranite, syn‐mineralization quartz porphyry, fine‐grained porphyry and granite porphyry, and post‐mineralization monzogranite and feldspar porphyry. These granitoids are metaluminous to peraluminous, and belong to alkali‐calcic to calc‐alkalic series. Zircon εHf(t) values of granitoids range from +0.2 to +5.7 with corresponding Hf crustal model ages of 805–1170 Ma, indicating a Mesoproterozoic juvenile crustal source modified by mantle‐derived magma. They are characterized by logf(O2) of −16.1 to −9.4, with an average of −12.5, ΔFMQ of +0.8 to +7.9, with an average of +4.5, showing a relatively high oxidation state for the syn‐mineralization magma. The apatites in quartz porphyry have the highest F contents, ranging from 3.61 to 4.62 wt%. At Chalukou, F‐rich magma is conducive to the convection of magma and promotes the efficient separation of differentiation magma, making the magmatic‐hydrothermal fluid circulate many times, eventually resulting in the accumulation of ore‐forming materials on the top of the magma chamber and gradually aggravating mineral enrichment processes. Large‐scale magmatic activity and associated mineralization in South China are linked to the subduction of the palaeo‐Pacific Plate, although specific processes have remained controversial including the timing of subduction initiation and lithospheric extension. We present new geochemical data and zircon U–Pb and Lu–Hf isotope measurements on volcanic rocks, granites and mafic dikes from coastal south‐eastern China along the Eurasian continental margin. The biotite monzogranites show I–type granitoid affinity and fractional crystallization with zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −10.15 to +0.50, suggesting magma derivation from the melting of lower crust with the addition of juvenile crustal or mantle components. The biotite granites are typical of highly fractionated A‐type granites with εHf(t) values ranging from −3.63 to +1.35, indicating magma hybridization between anatectic granitic and mantle‐derived mafic magmas. The diabase dikes have zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −2.99 to +1.71, with high La/Nb and La/Ta ratios. This suggests derivation from partial melting of a lithospheric mantle metasomatized by fluid from a subducting–slab, with contributions of depleted asthenospheric mantle components. Our data, combined with those from previous studies, suggest that the shallow subduction of the palaeo–Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian continent had begun by ca. ~170 Ma at least and the subduction orientation changed to oblique with respect to the continental margin. Steepening of the subduction angle likely caused a slab rollback during the Early Cretaceous, resulting in a tectonic transition from compression to extension in South China at ca. 145 Ma. The China Geological Survey successfully completed the second trial of natural gas hydrate (NGH) production in 2020, and the daily gas production and total gas production were greater than those in the first trial, but the evaluation of NGH resources in the South China Sea (SCS) is still in the evaluation stage, specifically for the gas content. In 2021, some scholars used different methods to more accurately evaluate NGHs in the SCS to aid in NGH exploration and evaluation in the SCS; some of them analysed the main factors controlling NGH resources, added several factors to the volume method for optimization, studied the sensitivity of the evaluation of resources to each of the main controlling factors (NGH stability zone area, NGH area coefficient, NGH stability zone thickness, NGH thickness coefficient, NGH reservoir porosity, NGH reservoir saturation, NGH volumetric ratio, NGH resource ratio coefficient and NGH recovery coefficient) and found that the effective thickness coefficient, effective thickness and effective area coefficient are the most sensitive; these values are 23.15%, 15.66%, 13.98%, and 13.95%, respectively, while the other values are 0%, 15.66%, 8.42%, 8.41%, 2.50%, and 13.92%; taking into account the influence of the main controlling factors, the range of the water resource potential evaluation results in the SCS is 2.4 × 107 m3–5.9 × 1014 m3, the modal value is 7.25 × 1011 m3, and the confidence level of the modal ±25% interval is 77.8%; these values provide a higher evaluation accuracy and higher resource level, which is consistent with the current results of NGH research in the SCS. Although the development of NGHs in the SCS is progressing rapidly, basic exploration is relatively scarce, and the number of samples of effective thickness obtained through dozens of exploratory wells is too few. The Beiya giant porphyry Au deposit is the largest Cenozoic Au deposit in the Jinshajiang Cu–Mo–Au metallogenic belt. Many granite porphyries of ~36 Ma were exposed in the Beiya deposit, including the Wandongshan (WDS) and Hongnitang monzogranite porphyries (HNT–MPs) with economically important Au metal resources, the uneconomic WDS biotite MP, and Putaishan granite porphyry (GP), and subeconomic MPs at Nandaping (NDP) and Matouwan (MTW) prospects. To reveal the fundamental factors that lead to the different fertility of these granitic porphyries, this study uses the biotite and zircon geochemical compositions to evaluate their petrogenetic and magmatic conditions (e.g., F content, pressure, fO2). The results show that biotites from economic WDS and HNT–MPs exhibit moderate F contents (0.85%–2.16%), low n(FeT)/n(FeT + Mg) ratios (average of 0.36), and shallow emplacement depths of 0.19–1.76 km. In contrast, the uneconomic granite porphyries are characterized by variable F contents (0.17%–2.75%), high n(FeT)/n(FeT + Mg) ratios (average of 0.43), and deep emplacement depths of 2.76 to 5.02 km. Moreover, the economic WDS and HNT–MPs display higher average zircon fO2 (ΔFMQ [fayalite–magnetite–quartz] of +0.88) than uneconomic granite porphyries (ΔFMQ of −0.19), further confirming a higher fO2 of the economic granitic porphyries. These features indicate that magmatic fO2 is a critical factor controlling Cu–Au mineralization at the Beiya Au deposit. In comparison with the economic WDS and HNT–MPs, the subeconomic MPs in the MTW and NDP prospects exhibit higher average biotite n(FeT)/n(FeT + Mg) ratios of 0.47 and 0.45, and lower average zircon ΔFMQ of −0.05 and −0.23, suggesting lower magmatic fO2 and thus have relatively weak potentials to form Cu–Au mineralization. Notably, the economic WDS and HNT–MPs have higher biotite XMg ratios than those of the subeconomic and uneconomic granitic porphyries, indicating that the economic MPs were formed by the partial melting of mixed lower crustal materials with more mantle‐derived materials. Therefore, the addition of mantle‐derived materials played an important role in determining the fO2 of the granitic porphyry, thus primarily controlling its fertility of Cu–Au mineralization. The recognition of unconformities is important for stratigraphic subdivision and correlation and for determining the timing of tectonic activity and the ocean‐continent transition process. Here, we have identified a Late Palaeozoic disconformity in the Moqinwula area of the northern Junggar Block, NW China. Integrated field relationship observations and sedimentological, biostratigraphical, geochemical and detrital zircon geochronological data, suggest that the underlying Hongliugou Formation is of Devonian age and was deposited in a passive continental margin setting. The overlying Tamugang Formation formed in the Early Carboniferous and was deposited in a foreland basin setting. Integrating the published data and our new work, we suggest a new tectonic evolution model related to the Karamaili ocean‐continent transition process. During the Early Devonian, northward subduction of the Karamaili Ocean plate beneath the East Junggar Belt formed the Yemaquan arc. At this time, a passive margin sequence was deposited on the northern Junggar Block. During the Early Carboniferous, the closure of the Karamaili Ocean resulted from the collision between the Junggar Block and the East Junggar Belt. Foreland basins subsequently developed, forming an extensive unconformity in the accretionary wedge to the north and a disconformity in the relatively rigid and stable Junggar Block to the south. This significant difference in stratigraphic contact relationships confirms that regional convergence‐induced shortening deformation had no significant influence on the northern margin of the Junggar Block, suggesting the existence of a relatively rigid basement, probably an oceanic plateau, under the cover sediments of the Junggar Block. Petrography and geochemical data of the Late Cretaceous clastic rocks in the northern Songliao Basin were used to infer the provenance and chemical weathering history. Petrographic data indicates that the composition of the sandstones is mainly quartz (34.48–50.43%), feldspars (14.16%–24.07%) and lithic fragments (33.91%–45.9%). Similar REE patterns and trace element ratios suggest that both the sandstones (LaCN/YbCN = 12.97; Eu/Eu* = 0.81; Th/Sc = 1.10) and mudstones (LaCN/YbCN = 10.02; Eu/Eu* = 0.71; Th/Sc = 1.10) were derived from a similar source area with felsic volcanic rocks as dominant contributors. The main provenance area is probably the eastern Zhangguangcai Range, the north‐eastern Lesser Xing'an Range and the south‐eastern Songliao Basin. A modelled mixture composed of 65% granodiorite in the Lesser Xing'an Range, 30% granite in Zhangguangcai Range and 5% epidiorite in the south‐eastern Songliao Basin, can be interpreted as the potential source compositions for the clastic sediments. This conclusion is reinforced by the major element of geochemistry composition and sandstone petrography. Relatively low Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA) values in mudstones (48.14–69.26) and sandstones (50.78–59.96) indicate mild chemical weathering conditions in the source area. Subduction system in the Qilian orogenic belt experienced the variability of an active continental arc in space and time related to the subduction of the Proto‐Tethys Ocean. Zircon U–Pb geochronology and whole‐rock chemical and Sr–Nd isotopic data of mafic to intermediate dykes in the western part of the Central Qilian belt (WCQB) are used to track magma provenance from compositionally variable reservoirs in the sub‐arc mantle and constrain the magmatic evolution of the rear‐arc at 450–445 Ma. Petrological, whole‐rock chemical and zircon U–Pb dating results reveal that the studied dykes mainly comprise calc‐alkaline lamprophyre (CAL), high Mg# andesitic porphyrite (HMA) and high FeO hornblende gabbro (HFG) with crystallization ages of 447, 453 and 448 Ma, respectively. Among them, CAL and HMA have affinities in high‐K calc‐alkaline suites, high REE contents (∑REE = 131.1–202.3 ppm) with high LaN/YbN values (6.77–17.99), enriched in large‐ion lithophile elements (LILE, e.g., Rb and U), and depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (HFSE, e.g., Nb, Ta, and Ti). They also have high Th/La (0.20–0.46), Th/Nb (0.67–1.64) and Th/Yb (3.88–14.11) ratios, and relatively high whole‐rock initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.707469–0.708493) and εNd(t) values (−4.7 to −3.1). Whereas, HFG is affinities in medium to high‐K calc‐alkaline suites, and has moderate rare earth elements (∑REE = 70.1–112.5 ppm) with flat REE patterns (LaN/YbN = 2.12–3.05) and exhibits enriched LILE, and Sr–Nd isotopes ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.713496–0.729216, εNd(t) = −2.93 to +2.04). Such typical "continental" geochemical features of the different K‐rich dykes do not result from crustal assimilation but reflect an enriched mantle source resulting from their mantle heterogeneity due to recycling of different subducted sediments. The temporal evolution of the geochemical characteristics of mafic‐intermediate dykes is consistent with an extension setting triggered by removing the thickened arc crust root in the WCQB. The Shaolang River metallogenic belt in Inner Mongolia is one of the main lead‐zinc polymetallic belt on the northern margin of the North China Plate. The granodiorites, which are closely coexisting with lead‐zinc veins in deposit, are extensively developed. Previous geochronological research results show that the dikes and veins in the metallogenic belt belong to the products of magmatic hydrothermal activity in the middle Yanshanian, so the genesis of the metallogenic belt deposit is generally considered to be a hydrothermal vein type deposit related to sub‐volcanic dikes. We obtained zircon LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb ages and Hf isotopic compositions of granodiorites, which are widely distributed in the deposit and were considered to be closely connected with the genesis of the deposits. The zircon U–Pb ages are 419.4 ± 1.4 Ma and 424.5 ± 4.1 Ma for the granodiorites, respectively, and they formed in the late Silurian. The geological and geochemical data indicate that the granodiorites are consistent with the geochemical characteristics of typical adakite. All εHf(t) values of the granodiorites are minus, on the zircon Hf isotope age diagram, εHf(t) are below the evolution curve of chondrite. The two‐stage model ages (tDM2) are 2.45 ~ 2.79 Ga and 1.87 ~ 2.29 Ga, respectively, showing rock‐forming materials mainly derived from the Paleoproterozoic and earlier crustal partial melting, and there may have been mantle‐derived magma underplating of the lower crust. Combining with the previous regional research, it is concluded that the granodiorites were formed during the extinction of the island arc under the background of subduction of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean and North China Craton. Because of the 125 ~ 170 Ma metallogenic age, we concluded that the granodiorites in the ore areas have no obvious relationship with the deposit genesis. However, it provided the advantageous space for the formation of the lead‐zinc veins, it can be regarded as an important prospecting indicator in metallogenic belt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Suolong gold deposit is in the eastern part of the Min‐Li metallogenic belt within the West Qinling Orogen. It is hosted in Lower Permian sandstone and siltstone. The gold mineralization is fault‐ and joint‐controlled. Four hydrothermal stages of mineralization, including the sulphide‐quartz stage, the arsenian pyrite‐quartz stage, the polymetallic sulphide‐quartz‐carbonate stage and the sulphide‐carbonate stage, were identified. Here we report results from fluid inclusion studies and C‐H‐O‐S‐Pb isotopes to get insight into the characteristics of mineralization and ore genesis. Fluid inclusion results indicate that the ore‐forming temperatures and salinities were in the range from 135 to 419°C and 0.18 to 15.27 wt.%, respectively. The δ34S values of pyrite, arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite varied in the 5.3‰–11.4‰ range, suggesting that sulphur originated from stratum sulphur. Lead isotopic compositions of sulphide (206Pb/204Pb = 18.344–18.418, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.628–15.701, 208Pb/204Pb = 38.508–38.743) indicate an upper crust source for Pb. The δ18OH2O‐SMOW and δDSMOW values range from 1.01‰ to 10.31‰ and −116.0‰ to −29.2‰, respectively, indicating that metamorphic water was the source of ore‐forming fluids. The δ13CPDB values (−11.4 to −2.1‰) show that the carbon in the ore‐forming fluids originated predominantly from a deep source. Our data suggest that the Suolong gold deposit is an orogenic gold deposit related to the subduction of an oceanic plate along the Mianlue belt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the collation and collection of a large number of data, we construct an induced earthquake database, QuakeQuake, and report a total of 193 human‐induced earthquake cases in China. 155 human‐induced earthquakes in China recorded in the global‐induced earthquake database (HiQuake) are revisited and re‐arranged by compiling the Chinese literature. The human‐induced earthquakes in QuakeQuake database are classified into three levels of reliability, strong, moderate and weak levels, based on both human‐induced processes and seismic activity. Three main categories including reservoir‐induced earthquakes, mine‐induced earthquakes and other induced earthquakes in China are sorted based on data recording and types of the induced earthquakes. Most of the induced earthquakes with strong level in QuakeQuake database are mainly minor earthquakes (3 ≤ M < 4.5). The focal depth of reservoir‐induced and mining‐induced earthquakes is within 30 and 8 km deep, respectively. The active type of source faults of the large induced earthquakes is mainly thrust type with the highest proportion. The largest observed magnitude of the induced earthquakes (MMAX) correlates positively with the injection/extraction volume, reservoir dam heights, reservoir capacity and lithology of the reservoir area. Nine volume intervals corresponding to each induced earthquake type are figured out. Based on the analysis of the mechanisms of human‐induced earthquakes in China, the main mechanisms of surface mass loading are karst collapse or gas explosion, pore water pressure effect and gravity energy release. Underground material extraction is mainly induced by the compaction of different reservoirs. Two injection types of underground material are gas injection and water injection. Gas injection is related to continuous stress loading and unloading. Two induction mechanisms of water injection are the increase of fault pore pressure and the change of fault load condition. Revealing hydrothermal evolution from the early oxide to late carbonate stages for quartz–wolframite vein‐type deposits is essential for understanding the ore‐forming process. In this study, we choose the Baishitouwa tungsten polymetallic deposit located in the southern Great Xing'an Range tungsten belt as a case study, and present detailed deposit geology and in situ fluid inclusion (FI) analyses including microthermometry, laser Raman spectra, and LA‐ICP‐MS microanalysis to address this issue. Four stages of hydrothermal activity were identified: (1) quartz–wolframite (I), (2) quartz–wolframite (II)–pyrite–chalcopyrite, (3) quartz–polymetallic sulphides, and (4) quartz–carbonate. Four types of FIs were recognized: CO2‐rich, CO2‐bearing, liquid‐rich, and brine inclusions. Microthermometric data showed that the homogenization temperatures and salinities from the early to late stages are 380–460°C, 7.4–17.3, and 29.3–43.2 wt% NaCl equiv., 300–390°C and 7.1–17.0 wt% NaCl equiv., 220–320°C and 2.7–8.1 wt% NaCl equiv., and 150–250°C and 0.5–4.8 wt% NaCl equiv., respectively, suggesting a decreasing trend. Geochemically, all stage fluids contained high Rb and Mn concentrations, high Rb/Na, Cs/Na, Li/Na, K/Na, Rb/Sr, low K/Rb, and consistent Cs/Rb and Cs/(Na + K) ratios, indicating that the mineralizing fluids originated from a common source—an underlying, geochemically uniform, and highly fractionated granitic magma. Fluid immiscibility and cooling are the main mechanisms for wolframite precipitation, whereas greisenization is subordinate; the incursion of meteoric water into the hydrothermal system initiated at the sulphide stage, and fluid mixing is the dominant mechanism for sulphide precipitation. A late Kasimovian (Pennsylvanian) coral reef is reported in the Yanbanzhai (YBZ) area, southern Guizhou Province, South China. The YBZ coral reef, with a thickness of approximately 5.5 m and a lateral exposure of nearly 50 m, is primarily composed of the colonial rugose coral Fomichevella. The fusulinids collected from the reef indicates a late Kasimovian age. Five microfacies types have been identified, including coated bioclastic grainstone, coral (Fomichevella) framestone, bioclastic wackestone, bioclastic grainstone, and peloidal grainstone. The vertical evolution of the microfacies in the YBZ coral reef indicates major sedimentary environmental changes associated with relative sea‐level changes. The growth of the reef‐builder Fomichevella was controlled by the transgression and regression. Deep water promoted the upward expansion of Fomichevella, while shallow water inhibited its growth. Published records of atmospheric pCO2 estimation and sea‐surface temperatures, combined with geochemical proxies, confirm a warm climatic period during the late Kasimovian. This is an interglacial period conducive to the growth of the coral reef. Sea‐level and climate changes associated with the Late Palaeozoic ice age (LPIA) are interpreted as significant controls of the development of the YBZ coral reef. This research of the YBZ coral reef in South China provides practical palaeobiological evidence for global sea‐level rising during the late Kasimovian period caused by the high‐latitude Gondwana delaciation. The Banjing tungsten deposit, which has been discovered recently, is located in the northernmost part of the Dabu pluton, southern Jiangxi Province, China. In this study, zircon LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb dating of the fine‐grained porphyritic biotite granite indicate that it was formed in the early Yanshanian (159.4 ± 2.5 Ma–161.6 ± 0.8 Ma). Whole‐rock geochemical studies have shown the fine‐grained porphyritic biotite granite has SiO2 of 75.82%–76.84%, Al2O3 12.50%–12.87%, MgO 0.07%–0.20%, and CaO 0.64%–1.09%, with A/CNK of 1.017–1.038. It has a total rare earth elements content of 93.9–118.9 ppm with strong negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.021–0.081). The biotite granite is enriched in Rb, Th, U, Nd and depleted in Ba, Sr, Nb, Ti. These data suggest the Dabu pluton belongs to S‐type granite. This pluton has ISr of 0.71212–0.72929 and εNd(t) from −9.60 to −10.62 with Nd model ages concentrated in 1732–1838 Ma. These isotopic data in combination with zircon Hf isotopes suggest the biotite granite originated from partial melting of the Middle Proterozoic metamorphic supracrustal rocks in South China, with a minor contribution from juvenile crust. Meanwhile, this study has obtained Re–Os isochron ages of the intrusion‐related and quartz vein‐type molybdenum mineralization are 156.3 ± 2.7 Ma and 157.0 ± 1.1 Ma in the Banjing tungsten deposit, respectively. Sericite from the greisen‐type tungsten‐molybdenum ore has an 40Ar–39Ar plateau age of 156.4 ± 1.0 Ma, interpreted as the formation age of this deposit. Collectively, the Banjing tungsten deposit is considered as a product of the early Yanshanian large‐scale peak mineralization in South China, which was formed in an extensional intracontinental environment caused by the subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate. As the largest petroliferous basin in northeast (NE) China, Songliao Basin preserves continuous Cretaceous sedimentary‐volcanic records, providing an excellent opportunity to recover the palaeo‐environment. The Yingcheng Formation in the Songliao Basin contains ample gas reservoirs that attract widespread attention. Whereas the timing, petrogenesis and geodynamic mechanism of the volcanic rocks in the Yingcheng Formation are still controversial, which largely constrain our understanding of the formation and evolution of the Songliao Basin. Here, we present an integrated investigation of zircon U–Pb ages and Hf isotope, as well as whole‐rock elements and Sr‐Nd isotopes data for a suite of rhyolites of Yingcheng Formation from the SK2 Borehole of NE China. Zircon U–Pb age dating results of nine samples have yielded a concentrated age of ~110 Ma. These Yingcheng rhyolites are characterized by high SiO2 (66–78 wt%) and alkali (Na2O + K2O = 7.80–11.70 wt%) content, high 10000*Ga/Al (1.26–3.82, mostly >2.6) and FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) ratios (0.81–0.95), which show geochemical affinities with A‐type rhyolites. They have relatively low Y/Nb (0.69–1.78, average 1.19) and Rb/Nb (1.58–6.52, average 4.34) ratios, suggesting that the Yingcheng volcanic samples belong to A1‐type rhyolites which formed in an intraplate environment. These Yingcheng rhyolites show depleted Nd‐Hf isotopic compositions (εNd(t) = 2.43–4.87 and zircon εHf(t) = 4.22–9.88) comparable with the Early Cretaceous A‐type and I‐type rhyolites in the Songliao Basin, suggesting that they were originated from a juvenile continental crust. They were most likely derived from the partial melting of anhydrous lower crust instead of differentiation of mantle‐derived or mixing with alkaline basaltic magma, due to their low Mg# and absence of the coeval mafic rocks. Combined with the previous studies, A‐type rhyolites in the Yingcheng Formation erupted lasting at least 10 Myr and were widely distributed in the rifts of the Songliao Basin. We propose that the Yingcheng rhyolites were most likely generated from the rollback of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate in the Early Cretaceous, thus highlighting the significance of the subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate during the secular evolution of the Songliao Basin. Evolution of terrestrial infauna in the Early Triassic enables to understand terrestrial biotic recovery after the end‐Permian mass extinction (EPME). Six ichnospecies in two ichnogenera, including Skolithos linearis, S. verticalis, S. annulatus, S. isp., Planolites montanus, and P. beverleyensis, were recognized from the Lower Triassic Liujiagou Formation (Induan Stage) and Heshanggou Formation (Olenekian Stage) in the Baiping section of the Dengfeng area, North China. The ichno‐ecological analyses of ichno‐taxonomic abundance, ichnodiversity, bioturbation index, burrow size, and tiering level revealed that terrestrial infauna expanded from epibenthic to endobenthic through the Early Triassic. The tiering deepening suggested that tracemakers gradually began to excavate into the sediments instead of moving on the microbial mats, indicating that the burrowing capability of trace‐making animals has recovered in the Olenekian. Four types of sedimentary substrates were summarized: non‐bioturbated matground, matground with bioturbated patches, weakly bioturbated mixed ground, and moderately bioturbated mixed ground. Occurrence of the substrate of mixed ground may be a sign of the initial recovery of the terrestrial ecosystem after the EPME. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
