This article provides a review of the impact of digital transformation on the energy sector, highlighting key trends and emerging technologies that are transforming the sector. The article begins by defining the concept of digital transformation, describing its scope, and explaining two conceptual frameworks to provide a deep understanding of the concept. This article then explores the benefits of digital transformation, examines its impact, and identifies its enablers and barriers. Each source examined was analyzed to extract qualitative results and assess its contribution to the researched topic. This paper also acknowledges the challenges posed by digital transformation, including concerns about cybersecurity, data privacy, and workforce displacement. Finally, we discuss the potential developments that are expected in the future of digital transformation in the power sector and conclude that digital transformation has the potential to significantly improve the energy sector's efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency. In the rapidly evolving domain of mobile edge–cloud computing (MECC), the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and mobile applications poses significant challenges, particularly in dynamically managing computational demands and user mobility. Current research has partially addressed aspects of service migration and resource allocation, yet it often falls short in thoroughly examining the nuanced interdependencies between migration strategies and resource allocation, the consequential impacts of migration delays, and the intricacies of handling incomplete tasks during migration. This study advances the discourse by introducing a sophisticated framework optimized through a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) strategy, underpinned by a Markov decision process (MDP) that dynamically adapts service migration and resource allocation strategies. This refined approach facilitates continuous system monitoring, adept decision making, and iterative policy refinement, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and reducing response times in MECC environments. By meticulously addressing these previously overlooked complexities, our research not only fills critical gaps in the literature but also enhances the practical deployment of edge computing technologies, contributing profoundly to both theoretical insights and practical implementations in contemporary digital ecosystems. In today's digital era, rumors spreading on social media threaten societal stability and individuals' daily lives, especially multimodal rumors. Hence, there is an urgent need for effective multimodal rumor detection methods. However, existing approaches often overlook the insufficient diversity of multimodal samples in feature space and hidden similarities and differences among multimodal samples. To address such challenges, we propose MVACLNet, a Multimodal Virtual Augmentation Contrastive Learning Network. In MVACLNet, we first design a Hierarchical Textual Feature Extraction (HTFE) module to extract comprehensive textual features from multiple perspectives. Then, we fuse the textual and visual features using a modified cross-attention mechanism, which operates from different perspectives at the feature value level, to obtain authentic multimodal feature representations. Following this, we devise a Virtual Augmentation Contrastive Learning (VACL) module as an auxiliary training module. It leverages ground-truth labels and extra-generated virtual multimodal feature representations to enhance contrastive learning, thus helping capture more crucial similarities and differences among multimodal samples. Meanwhile, it performs a Kullback–Leibler (KL) divergence constraint between predicted probability distributions of the virtual multimodal feature representations and their corresponding virtual labels to help extract more content-invariant multimodal features. Finally, the authentic multimodal feature representations are input into a rumor classifier for detection. Background. Brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) offer users the ability to directly communicate with digital devices through neural signals decoded with machine learning (ML)-based algorithms. Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) are a type of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) that operate on neural spikes instead of continuous scalar outputs. Compared to traditional ANNs, SNNs perform fewer computations, use less memory, and mimic biological neurons better. However, SNNs only retain information for short durations, limiting their ability to capture long-term dependencies in time-variant data. Here, we propose a novel spike-weighted SNN with spiking long short-term memory (swSNN-SLSTM) for a regression problem. Spike-weighting captures neuronal firing rate instead of membrane potential, and the SLSTM layer captures long-term dependencies. Methods. We compared the performance of various ML algorithms during decoding directional movements, using a dataset of microelectrode recordings from a macaque during a directional joystick task, and also an open-source dataset. We thus quantified how swSNN-SLSTM performed compared to existing ML models: an unscented Kalman filter, LSTM-based ANN, and membrane-based SNN techniques. Result. The proposed swSNN-SLSTM outperforms both the unscented Kalman filter, the LSTM-based ANN, and the membrane based SNN technique. This shows that incorporating SLSTM can better capture long-term dependencies within neural data. Also, our proposed swSNN-SLSTM algorithm shows promise in reducing power consumption and lowering heat dissipation in implanted BMIs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rapid advancements in technology have given rise to groundbreaking solutions and practical applications in the field of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). These advancements have had a profound impact on the structures of numerous industrial organizations. The IIoT, a seamless integration of the physical and digital realms with minimal human intervention, has ushered in radical changes in the economy and modern business practices. At the heart of the IIoT lies its ability to gather and analyze vast volumes of data, which is then harnessed by artificial intelligence systems to perform intelligent tasks such as optimizing networked units' performance, identifying and correcting errors, and implementing proactive maintenance measures. However, implementing IIoT systems is fraught with difficulties, notably in terms of security and privacy. IIoT implementations are susceptible to sophisticated security attacks at various levels of networking and communication architecture. The complex and often heterogeneous nature of these systems makes it difficult to ensure availability, confidentiality, and integrity, raising concerns about mistrust in network operations, privacy breaches, and potential loss of critical, personal, and sensitive information of the network's end-users. To address these issues, this study aims to investigate the privacy requirements of an IIoT ecosystem as outlined by industry standards. It provides a comprehensive overview of the IIoT, its advantages, disadvantages, challenges, and the imperative need for industrial privacy. The research methodology encompasses a thorough literature review to gather existing knowledge and insights on the subject. Additionally, it explores how the IIoT is transforming the manufacturing industry and enhancing industrial processes, incorporating case studies and real-world examples to illustrate its practical applications and impact. In our digital age, data are generated constantly from public and private sources, social media platforms, and the Internet of Things. A significant portion of this information comes in the form of unstructured images and videos, such as the 95 million daily photos and videos shared on Instagram and the 136 billion images available on Google Images. Despite advances in image processing and analytics, the current state of the art lacks effective methods for discovering, linking, and comprehending image data. Consider, for instance, the images from a crime scene that hold critical information for a police investigation. Currently, no system can interactively generate a comprehensive narrative of events from the incident to the conclusion of the investigation. To address this gap in research, we have conducted a thorough systematic literature review of existing methods, from labeling and captioning to extraction, enrichment, and transforming image data into contextualized information and knowledge. Our review has led us to propose the vision of storytelling with image data, an innovative framework designed to address fundamental challenges in image data comprehension. In particular, we focus on the research problem of understanding image data in general and, specifically, curating, summarizing, linking, and presenting large amounts of image data in a digestible manner to users. In this context, storytelling serves as an appropriate metaphor, as it can capture and depict the narratives and insights locked within the relationships among data stored across different islands.
