This paper aims to provide an overview of the history of French-Canadian missionary journals in the twentieth century. Three periods shape this history of missionary journals: the multiplication of journals for informing and propagating the faith (1900-1944), the challenges of the missionary press (1945-1960) and the questioning in relation with a wider process of secularization (1961-2000). This overview provides a better understanding of the apostolic activities of the French-Canadian Church emphasizing the material and ideological transformations of these publications. Beyond the projected image, the proselytism, the prejudices and the racism that they convey, these journals retrace the evolution of the Catholic Church and its missionary movement as well as the evolution of Quebec society and its relationship to foreign societies and cultures. Cet article a pour objectif d'effectuer un survol de l'histoire des revues missionnaires canadiennes-francaises au XXe siecle. Trois periodes faconnent cette histoire des revues missionnaires: la multiplication des revues dans le but d'informer et de propager la foi (1900-1944), les defis de la presse missionnaire (1945-1960) et les remises en question en lien avec un plus large processus de secularisation (1961-2000). Ce survol permet une meilleure comprehension des activites apostoliques de l'Eglise canadienne- francaise en insistant sur les transformations materielle et ideologique de ces revues. This paper compares the topic of exile found in Saint-John Perse and Yvan Golfs peotry in the catholic journal La Nouvelle Releve (1941-1948). Pulled from the archives and communications of three French-Canadian mediators (Simone Aubry-Beaulieu, Paul Beaulieu and Louis-Marcel Raymond), it explains the exchanges of these poems within a network of francophone journals in the Americas. The author puts these cultural trades in a new international perspective brought forward by the uncertainty of the Second World War and suggests that they are timed with the emergence french-speaking literature in communities around the world. This article suggests a re-evaluation of the received wisdom concerning the experience and contributions of Canadian chaplains during the Great War. Employing Padre Benedict Joseph Murdoch's The Red Vineyard, it will be argued that not all chaplains were aloof mandarins of the officer class far removed from danger and out of touch with the men. This paper places Murdoch's The Red Vineyard squarely within the canon of Canadian Great War literature and demonstrates that the book was an antidote to the received disillusionment narratives of that conflict. Finally, it will be suggested that Murdoch's blunt and honest record of his wartime experiences and the effects of those experiences (PTSD) make him a singular and unsung advocate for Canada's Great War soldiers. Au Quebec, les relations du travail dans l'industrie de la construction font l'objet, depuis 1968, d'un encadrement specifique en marge du Code du travail. L'adoption et l'originalite de ce regime, qui prevoit un eventail de regles visant les rapports collectifs du travail, mais aussi l'emploi des travailleurs de la construction, sont souvent expliquees par les rivalites intersyndicales qui ont marque le secteur depuis les annees 1960. L'objectif du texte est de montrer que la mobilite provinciale des travailleurs de la construction constitue, au Quebec, une source de conflits au travail qui, bien que pouvant mettre en presence des organisations syndicates rivales, doit neanmoins etre distinguee de ees rivalites naissant du pluralisme syndical. Pour ce faire, apres avoir mis en evidence certaines caracteristiques industrielles et economiques de la construction quebecoise, nous proposons une analyse de revolution du cadre legislatif et reglementaire applicable a l'emploi dans ce secteur, en portant une attention particuliere aux conflits et manifestations qui l'ont marque. The adoption and singularity of this undertaking, which provides for a range of rules targeting collective labour relations, but also the employment of construction workers, are often explained by the inter-union rivalries which have had a great impact on the sector since the 1960s. The objective of the article is to demonstrate that provincial mobility of construction workers constitutes, in Quebec, a source of labour conflicts, which, although it may involve rival labour organizations, must nevertheless be distinguished from the rivalries arising from union pluralism. In order to achieve our goal, besides highlighting certain industrial and economic characteristics of Quebec construction, we suggest an analysis of the evolution of the legislative and regulatory framework applicable to employment in the sector, paying special attention to conflicts and demonstrations which have marked the sector. Father Aeneas McDonnell Dawson was an important early Canadian literary figure. Celebrated in confederation-era Ottawa intellectual circles, his manuscript on the temporal authority of the Pope was the first book published in that city. A friend of Sir John A. MacDonald and D'Arcy McGee, Dawson was an advocate of Canadian expansionism and did much to strengthen national unity. Yet we know very little about Dawson's early years in Scotland nor his experiences as a parish priest. This article offers new material on Dawson's early life, his reasons for coming to Canada and his experiences as priest in the Diocese of Ottawa. Edward Whelan was one of the popular heroes of Prince Edward Island's Confederation-era 'golden age': champion of responsible government, Father of Confederation, brilliant journalist and orator. For over a half-century after his tragic death in 1867, a series of campaigns were launched to erect a public monument to his memory. Despite their pointedly non-partisan, non-sectarian trappings, each ultimately failed to generate broad support. The reasons for that failure hold up a mirror to a post-Confederation Island society in need of heroes but divided by its past, while the story of how the monument was variously justified exposes the fluid and contingent nature of public memory as the real Edward Whelan became a convenient vessel in which to place the values and aspirations of his memory keepers. Cet article vise à contribuer à une meilleure connaissance théorique et empirique de l'expérience subjective de la discrimination systémique. L'approche adoptée relie l'acte discriminatoire, lui-même singulier et situé, au cadre sociétal qui le rend efficace. En retenant le cas de la population québécoise d'origine latino-américaine, on analyse les réponses d'environ un millier de ses membres afin d'observer les liens entre la victimisation et le bien-être subjectif, ainsi que les différentes façons dont ils se représentent comme cibles potentielles de discrimination, en tenant compte des différences dans les stéréotypes autorapportés par les femmes et les hommes. Les résultats de l'analyse montrent, entre autres, que les personnes ayant expérimenté de la discrimination affichent des niveaux de satisfaction moins élevés dans les variables liées au statut social subjectif. L'expérience subjective de la discrimination est associée au sentiment d'étrangéité ressenti, au bilan personnel du parcours migratoire et à la perception qu'a l'individu de sa position dans la société. Mots-clés: discrimination systémique; immigrants; Latino-Américains; Québec; bien-être subjectif This article aims to contribute to a better theoretical and empirical understanding of the subjective experience of systemic discrimination. The approach adopted links the discriminatory act, itself specific and situated, to the societal framework that makes it effective. We analyze the responses provided by over a thousand Quebecers born in Latin American in order to observe the links between victimization and subjective well-being, as well as the different ways in which they represent themselves as potential targets of discrimination, while taking into account differences in self-reported stereotypes by women and men. The results of the analysis show, among other things, that people who have experienced discrimination display lower levels of satisfaction in variables related to their subjective social status. The subjective experience of discrimination is associated with the feeling of foreignness, the personal assessment of migration choices and the individual's perception of his place in society. L'étude des couples ne vivant pas ensemble (Couple Non-Cohabitant (CNC), en anglais Living Apart Together (LAT)) est de plus en plus présente dans la sociologie de la famille. Il n'existe presque pas d'études quantitatives ayant analysé les couples mariés vivant séparément. Cependant, les changements familiaux les plus récents font augmenter la possibilité de ces unions. Cette recherche analyse la réalité des LAT mariés d'un point de vue quantitatif, grâce au projet GGS qui permet de rassembler un sous-échantillon de 524 cas issus de 8 pays d'Europe. Les résultats signalent l'existence de ces deux typologies au sein de ces couples mariés. Cependant, la situation prédominante est celle des couples qui vivent cette situation de façon forcée. Ils sont caractérisés par un âge moyen supérieur, un contact moins fréquent et un plus grand sentiment de solitude que les autres couples ne vivant pas ensemble. There are hardly any quantitative studies that have analyzed LAT marriages. However, the most recent family changes increase the possibility of these unions. This research analyzes the reality of married LAT from a quantitative point of view, thanks to the GGS project which brings together a sub-sample of 524 cases from 8 European countries. The results indicate the existence of both types within these marriages. However, the predominant situation is that of couples who experience this situation in a forced way. They are characterized by a higher average age, less frequent contact and a greater feeling of loneliness than the rest of couples without living together.
