Accurate and efficient damage detection in long-term health monitoring for structures still encounters many difficulties due to the effect of environment. Furthermore, recorded big data requires efficient damage detection algorithm. In this study, an efficient and effective damage detection algorithm is proposed using transmissibility along with Mahalanobis distance and Hotelling T-square. A numerically simulated beam and an experimentally tested laboratory structure are used to validate the proposed algorithm. A numerical model based on the Fokker–Planck equation for studying the orientation of paper fibers in a suspension is presented. The model is implemented in a finite volume framework. The rotational operators are discretized on a triangulated half sphere and the spatial operators are discretized on a Cartesian octree grid, where internal walls are handled with immersed boundary methods. Transient solutions of the two dimensional fiber orientation distribution are computed in the entire fluid domain. This is in contrast to earlier approaches that either only compute along streamlines or one dimensional projected orientations. The fibers are assumed to have negligible inertia and thus to follow the fluid perfectly and to be evenly distributed. A head-box geometry relevant for paper forming is used to exemplify the usefulness of the method. The influence of translational and rotational diffusion is included in the presented method. In this paper, we numerically study the influence of saturable absorber parameters, namely, modulation depth, recovery time, and saturation energy, on the performance of an ultrafast fiber laser that is mode-locked by a hybrid scheme of a saturation absorber (SA) and a nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). Maps of mode-locked states related to intracavity wave-plates are created to evaluate the operation of hybrid mode-locking under different modulation depths of the SA. Along with the improvement of modulation depth of the SA, the mode-locked pulse results from a combination effect of the SA and NPR. The numerical analysis reveals that the SA parameters can significantly impact the pulse profile, peak power, and operation state. Moreover, they can also impact the selection of NPR mode-locked points, resulting in variation in stable single pulse output. A higher modulation depth can suppress the unstable multiple pulses' operation and convert them into harmonic mode-locked pulses. The obtained results indicate that the selection of appropriate SA parameters can effectively improve the output characteristics of hybrid mode-locked fiber lasers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The transport of electrons through the gas diffusion layer (GDL) of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells has a significant impact on the optimal design and operation of PEM fuel cells and is directly affected by the anisotropic nature of the carbon paper material. In this study, a three-dimensional reconstruction of the GDL is used to numerically estimate the directional dependent effective electrical conductivity of the layer for various porosity values. The distribution of the fibers in the through-plane direction results in high electrical resistivity; hence, decreasing the overall effective electrical conductivity in this direction. This finding is in agreement with measured experimental data. Further, using the numerical results of this study, two mathematical expressions were proposed for the calculation of the effective electrical conductivity of the carbon paper GDL. Finally, the tortuosity factor was evaluated as 1.7 and 3.4 in the in- and through-plane directions, respectively. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The Server Allocation Problem is a significant challenge in manufacturing systems involving deciding the number and version of machines for each stage. This optimization problem is of utmost importance when there is a trade-off between minimizing investment costs and flow time while achieving target performance, such as a minimum throughput. Manufacturing systems often employ hybrid flow lines, with non-identical machines at each stage. This paper analyzes the trade-off between minimizing costs and flow time when allocating servers in hybrid flow lines by proposing a bi-criteria approach that uses an efficient pattern-based problem representation and a Variable Neighborhood Search solution algorithm. The objectives are to minimize total cost and flow time while ensuring a target throughput. A metric for comparing obtained solutions is proposed, providing insights for practical implementation. In this paper, a one-level operator splitting method (OOSM) and a two-level operator splitting method (TOSM) for the two-dimensional or three-dimensional (2D/3D) unsteady incompressible micropolar fluid equations with double diffusion convection (IMFDDC) are proposed and analyzed. Firstly, a OOSM is constructed, which consists of five steps. The projection strategy is adopted to get the values of linear velocity and pressure in the first two steps, then the three elliptic subproblems about the angular velocity, the temperature, and the concentration variables are solved in the last three steps. The original variables with the predefined boundary conditions need to be solved separately in each step. Next, in order to solve the problem efficiently, a TOSM is presented, which only solves the nonlinear equations in the coarse level subspaces and the Oseen type linearized equations in the fine level. The numerical analysis of stability and error estimates of the fully discrete methods show that TOSM can reach the same accuracy as the OOSM with H ∼ O (h 2 / 3). Continuous fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are increasingly being employed in safety critical applications. As a result, their use in these applications requires the adoption of appropriate design methodologies that are able to consider their complex non-linear mechanical behaviour. In this paper, a simple but robust formulation for continuum damage model, thermodynamically consistent and written under plane stress condition, is proposed for a laminated 2D woven composite material. This model is implemented via the Classical Laminate Theory (CLT) extended to non-linear behaviour to predict the behaviour of different stacking sequences. In-plane tensile tests were performed on an oxide/oxide composite up to 1000 °C to fully identify the model. The procedure is described and used on tests at room temperature before being extended higher temperature tests. This paper discusses the design process toward new lumped chaotic systems that originates in higher-order ordinary differential equations commonly used as description of ideal oscillators. In investigated third-order case, two chaotic oscillators were constructed. These systems are dual in the sense of vector field geometry local to fixed points. The existence of robust chaos was proved by both standard routines of numerical analysis and practical measurement. For the fourth-order oscillatory equation, the concept based on interaction between superinductor and supercapacitor was examined in detail. Since both "superelements" are active, the nonlinearity essential to the evolution of chaos is fully passive. It is demonstrated that complex motion is robust and does not represent long transient behavior or numerical artefact. The existence of chaos was verified using standard quantifiers of the flow, such as the largest Lyapunov exponents, recurrence plots, approximate entropy and sensitivity calculation. This paper investigates the dynamics of a four-dimensional plankton-fish system that contains three communities of plankton: non-toxic phytoplankton, toxic-producing phytoplankton, and zooplankton. The zooplankton consumes both non-toxic and toxic-producing phytoplankton. First, the positivity and boundedness of the solutions in the plankton-fish model are evaluated. Then, we derive the conditions for the existence of ecologically possible equilibria and their local and global asymptotic nature. Furthermore, we evaluate the criteria for the existence of Hopf-bifurcation and transcritical bifurcation. By applying Pontryagin’s maximum principle, we investigate the optimal control of fish harvesting, where fishing effort is taken as a control parameter. By using phase-space diagrams, time responses, bifurcation diagrams, and numerical analyses validate the theoretical results. The numerical results including maximum Lyapunov exponent verify chaotic dynamics of the system. We notice that a suitable choice of harvesting, phytoplankton growth rate, and additional food parameters can control the chaotic behavior of the presented model. The proposed novel mathematical model gives deeper insights to theoretical ecologists on how toxic-producing phytoplankton affects zooplankton and fish populations in aquatic systems. The scheme’s stability and convergence properties are rigorously proven, highlighting its superior convergence rate for non-expansive mappings when compared to existing schemes in the literature. The response amplification technology, which enhances the efficiency of shock absorption apparatuses, has been widely applied in the field of shock absorption control for engineering structures. Researchers have proposed and verified through numerical analysis and experiments more structural forms of this technology as applicable. The functions are also more comprehensive, such as increased utilization rate of structural space and economy. The development of its theoretical foundation has progressed from constant solutions based on small deformations to solutions that reflect the time-varying characteristics of the amplification factor of the brace-damping system. Simultaneously, the influencing factors of the amplification factor have been analyzed in detail to provide better theoretical guidance for engineering practice. This paper provides a detailed discussion on the research overview of the response amplification technology and the influencing factors of the amplification factor. This paper describes the experiments carried out on a mediaeval masonry tower in the historic centre of Lucca and some finite element numerical simulations of the tower's experimental response. The Guinigi Tower, one of the most iconic monuments in Lucca, has been continuously monitored by high-sensitivity seismic stations that recorded the structure's response to the dynamic actions of the surrounding environment. The monitoring campaign results have been analysed to show the effectiveness of dynamic monitoring as a valuable source of information on the structural properties of the tower. The dynamic analyses of the tower and the surrounding palace subjected to some seismic events recorded during the experiments have highlighted the capabilities of experiment-based finite element modelling. The calibration of the finite element model and the numerical analysis have been carried out by resorting to procedures developed at ISTI-CNR and able to consider the nonlinear behaviour of masonry materials. Rock anchors, which can withstand substantial forces and are essential for securing the foundations of the built environment, can fail due to steel tensile failure, bond detachment, or rock mass fracturing through uplift. In this study, uplift failure of the rock mass surrounding rock anchors was simulated using both physical and numerical models. The physical models used a specially designed testing rig with predefined sizes and different joint layouts to simulate rock mass uplift failure. The numerical models were calibrated using the physical models and used to investigate scenarios involving increased complexity and greater depths. This paper presents the load distribution within rock masses with orthogonal joints when exposed to an anchor load. Extensive analysis of the numerical models revealed that symmetrical load arches were induced in rock masses that contained a joint set oriented parallel to the loading direction. However, joints that were obliquely oriented relative to the anchor axis induced asymmetrical load arching. The greatest displacement occurred in the direction parallel to the joint set with the smallest angle to the anchor loading axis. Large-scale models with zero or near-zero in situ horizontal stress revealed that the load capacity in a rock mass with continuous vertical joints was relatively low, especially when compared to rock masses with discontinuous vertical joints. It was observed that the uplift capacity of the rock mass around an anchor decreased if the load arches of adjacent anchors overlapped; consequently, a decrease in anchor spacing was found to correspond to a decrease in uplift capacity. Highlights: Symmetrical load arches are induced within a rock mass if the joint sets are oriented parallel to or close to parallel to the anchor axis. An oblique orientation of the joints relative to the anchor axis results in asymmetrical load arching in the rock mass when the anchor is loaded. Rock masses with continuous vertical joints have a low load capacity, especially compared to rock masses with discontinuous vertical joints. A hypersonic airborne radome must possess multiband electromagnetic transparency, high specific strength, and thermomechanical resistance to ensure proper antenna operation. However, achieving these multifunctional properties in radome wall design is challenging due to conflicting material requirements. Moreover, existing design methods for arbitrary multiband and broadband hypersonic radomes are insufficient. This paper presents an efficient method that integrates artificial intelligence and an evolutionary algorithm to enable the multidisciplinary synchronous design of the radome wall. The designed radome walls using multilayered porous silicon-nitride ceramics achieve power transmission efficiency exceeding 90% in a broadband of 30 GHz or arbitrary multiple bands with bandwidths of 5 GHz, covering the centimeter-to-millimeter wave range. Moreover, the designed laminate also meets requirements of flexural strength surpassing 60 MPa and a maximum thermal stress-strength ratio below 1. In soft soil layers, piles are frequently loaded laterally by horizontal soil movements. In many cases, the lateral pressure acting on piles due to horizontal soil movements is calculated with empirically or analytically based approaches, respectively. However, most of these design approaches do not consider possible influences on the resulting pile loads. This paper presents the results of model tests and numerical simulations on single piles and pile groups in cohesive soil subjected to lateral loads which were carried out to overcome limitations of available design approaches. Based on extensive small-scale 1 × g-model tests and numerical investigations with the finite element method, influencing factors on the lateral pressure, such as the roughness of the pile–soil interface, the pile size, the pile shape and the pile spacing were identified. A parametric study with the numerical model quantified the most relevant factors influencing the development of lateral pressure on piles due to adjacent surface loads and lead to the development of a simplified analysis approach. The paper presents findings from a parametric study analysing geometric (e.g., shape ratio, edge inclination) and stratigraphic factors (e.g. impedance ratio) influencing ground motion in trapezoidal valleys. The study involved 2160 visco-elastic analyses, considering 180 2D models with diverse shapes and soil properties, undergoing 12 synthetic input motions. Analyses results showed that the motion at the valley centre increases with both shape and impedance ratios, while it is independent of the edge slope; on the other hand, the maximum amplification at the edges depends on their inclination and on the impedance ratio, while it is independent of the valley shape. The position and size of the zone of maximum amplification at the edges depend on all the previous parameters. A valley amplification factor (VAF) is introduced to quantify spectral acceleration increase due to 2D effects. Closed-form equations are proposed to evaluate VAF based on valley properties. The proposed VAF is then applied to predict seismic amplification in two central Italian valleys, providing results well-comparable to those obtained from 2D numerical analyses. The described approach can be easily implemented into codes of practice as a conservative design tool to estimate 2D amplification along the surface of 'shallow valleys' subjected to moderate seismic actions. In the literature, one can find numerous modifications of Fourier's law, the first of which is the Maxwell–Cattaneo–Vernotte heat equation. Although this model has been known for decades and successfully used to model low-temperature damped heat wave propagation, its nonlinear properties are rarely investigated. This paper aims to present the functional relationship between the transport coefficients and the consequences of their temperature dependence, particularly focusing on thermal conductivity. These are the consequences of the second law of thermodynamics. Furthermore, we introduce a particular implicit numerical scheme in order to solve such nonlinear heat equations reliably, free from artificial numerical errors. We investigate the scheme's stability, dissipation, and dispersion attributes. We demonstrate the effect of temperature-dependent thermal conductivity on two different initial-boundary value problems, including time-dependent boundaries and heterogeneous initial conditions, for which we discuss the nontrivial constraints following irreversible thermodynamics. This contribution discusses the influence of different barrier update strategies on the performance and robustness of an interior point algorithm for single-crystal plasticity at small strains. To this end, single-crystal plasticity is first briefly presented in the framework of a primal-dual interior point algorithm to outline the general algorithmic structure. The manner in which the barrier parameter is modified within the interior point method, steering the penalization of constraints, plays a crucial role for the robustness and efficiency of the overall algorithm. In this paper, we compare and analyze different strategies in the framework of crystal plasticity. Deep, large-diameter caisson shafts are a popular means of constructing underground storage and attenuation tanks and pumping stations for the water and wastewater industry. One of the key design concerns for these structures is resistance to flotation during periods when the tanks are only partially filled or empty. In this paper, two-dimensional numerical analysis is used to explore the undrained uplift resistance provided by under-reaming the walls of the caisson shaft to create an enlarged base. The primary aim of the study is to assess the influence of the taper angle of the anchor (i.e. the protruded base) on the resulting uplift resistance. The effects of the anchor–soil interface roughness factor, soil weight, surcharge pressure and caisson radius are also investigated. The results indicate that the effect of the taper angle on both the uplift bearing capacity and the developed horizontal reaction can be very significant. The numerical output informs the development of a closed-form approach for application in routine design. The new design method is shown to provide an excellent agreement with both finite-element and additional finite-element limit analysis calculations. Nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equations are a class of nonlinear matrix equations with wide applications. In this paper, numerical solution of nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equations is studied. A generalized ALI iteration method is proposed to solve the equation, which is an extension of the ALI iteration method and the MALI iteration method. In this paper we study the convergence of a finite volume approximation of a convective diffusive elliptic problem with Neumann boundary conditions and L 1 data. To deal with the non-coercive character of the equation and the low regularity of the right hand-side we mix the finite volume tools and the renormalized techniques. To handle the Neumann boundary conditions we choose solutions having a null median and we prove a convergence result. Studying the seismic performance of assembled concrete structures is an effective means to improve the quality of buildings. In this paper, the primary focus was on elucidating the research objectives. Initially, seismic performance experiments for assembled concrete structures were meticulously designed, and subsequently, concrete structural frames were assembled for comprehensive experimental analysis. A finite element model was developed for the nodes of the assembled concrete structure, incorporating the concrete principal structure model, concrete damage plasticity model, and steel principal structure model. Numerical simulations and finite element analysis were performed to verify the specific factors affecting the seismic performance of the assembled concrete structure. The results show that the hysteresis curves of the assembled concrete frame obtained from the simulation and the test curves basically match, and the difference in the maximum forward beam end displacement is only 1.76 mm, with an error rate of only 3.98%. When the axial compression ratio of the assembled concrete structural frame is within 0.3, there is no decrease in the bearing capacity when the assembled concrete is loaded to 2.3% lateral displacement. This shows that the seismic performance of assembled concrete structures can be effectively analyzed by using finite element models, and also provides a new research direction for improving the seismic quality of buildings. In this paper, we suggest joint application of computational probabilistic analysis and the Monte Carlo method for numerical stochastic modeling problems. We use all the capabilities of computational probabilistic analysis while maintaining all the advantages of the Monte Carlo method. Our approach allows us to efficiently implement a computational hybrid scheme. In this way, we reduce the computation time and present the results in the form of distributions. The crucial new points of our method are arithmetic operations on probability density functions and procedures for constructing on the probabilistic extensions. This paper addresses the issues of port investment, considering the mutual selection process of the industries planned for transfer and recipient countries with location advantage, along the Maritime Silk Road (MSR). We propose a method for determining the production scale of different industries in each country by analyzing location advantage, the regional imports of commodities from each recipient country, the import transportation route scheme, the port network structure, and the port investment scheme along the MSR. This method is constructed on the basis of a hub-spoke network model, a location model, and a matching game model. We select 14 countries along the MSR as a case study and treat them as the supply zones of commodities, while six continents are taken as the demand zones. The numerical analysis show that Sihanoukville Port in Cambodia, Port Klang in Malaysia, and Mundra Port in India will become hub ports, and that 81, 41, and 24 container berths will be constructed at each of these harbors, respectively. Whether a port will become a hub depends on the industrial growth potential in its direct hinterland, its geographical advantages in the global shipping network, and its relative spatial relationship to other hub ports. This paper presents, a novel second order E-plane planar insert based dual band bandstop waveguide filter. The circular shape with two T-shape resonators are printed on Roger RO4350 dielectric substrate to form planar insert. The insert are placed in such a way that positioned in E-plane of the standard WR-90 rectangular waveguide. The independent resonant frequency and bandwidth of the stopband can be adjusted by tuning the resonators. To achieve second order dual band bandstop filter response four asymmetrical circular shape with two T-shape resonators are designed on dielectric substrate to form different stopbands and separated by some specific distance to eliminate the unwanted coupling between them. The numerical analysis of the proposed filter is carried out using CST microwave studio. To validate the numerical analysis of the proposed filter, resonator, WR-90 rectangular waveguide is fabricated and measured. The measured results shows stopband characteristics having centre frequencies f01g = 8.56 GHz and f02 = 11.21 GHz and exhibits the bandwidth of 0.4146 GHz and 0.3824 GHz. In this paper, we investigate the optimal reinsurance and investment problem from joint interests of the insurer and the reinsurer in the framework of the mixed leadership game, where both of them can invest their wealth in the financial market, and the liabilities are correlated with the risky asset. More specifically, we assume that the insurer is the leader to determine the amount he/she invests into the risky asset but acts as the follower to decide the optimal reinsurance retention level, while the reinsurer is the leader to set the reinsurance premium price and acts as a follower to determine his/her investment strategy. Both the insurer and the reinsurer aim to maximize the expected utility of their terminal wealth, and the explicit Stackelberg-Nash equilibrium is derived by solving the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations. In order to better understand the effect of the mixed leadership game on the optimal reinsurance and investment problem, we also consider the optimization problem within the framework of the stochastic Stackelberg differential game shown in [Bai, Y., Zhou, Z., Xiao, H., Gao, R. & Zhong, F. In numerical analysis, the quadrature formulas serve as a pivotal tool for approximating definite integrals. In this paper, we introduce a family of quadrature formulas and analyze their associated error bounds for convex functions. The main advantage of these new error bounds is that from these error bounds, we can find the error bounds of different quadrature formulas. This work extends the traditional quadrature formulas such as the midpoint formula, trapezoidal formula, Simpson's formula, and Boole's formula. We also use the power mean and Hölder's integral inequalities to find more general and sharp bounds. Investigating novel collaboration modes is imperative for enhancing the cooperative ties between brand retailers and anchors as live streaming commerce moves progressively towards standardization. In this paper, we study a live streaming commerce supply chain system composed of a brand retailer and an Internet celebrity anchor. We also develop the pricing and live streaming service effort decision models under the equal proportion settlement mode of pit fee for the brand retailer and anchor. The research results show that under certain conditions, there is an optimal joint decision on price discount and live streaming service effort. In addition, the equal proportion settlement mode provides security for brand retailers but tends to expose the anchor's capabilities of live streaming sales. Consequently, anchors can only obtain a higher proportion of the pit fee by putting in more effort. Finally, through numerical analysis, we presented the impact of key parameters on the optimal decisions, demand, and profits of brand retailers and anchors. AbstractIn case of strong seismic-induced vibration, some metallic support and anchorage systems may exhibit elastoplastic deformation. To consider this elastoplastic deformation in the seismic design of equipment, standards such as CEN/TS 2004 recommend a very simplified behavior coefficient which is constant. Neither post-elastic characteristics such as the hardening coefficient, the ductility capacity, nor the dynamic content of the equipment are considered so far in this approach. In this paper, the influence of the elastoplastic deformation in supports on equipment responses is examined by means of a systematic numerical analysis. As highlights, the effect of elastoplastic supports strongly depends on the frequency of the equipment and the post-elastic characteristics. In certain cases, the effect of elastoplastic deformation in supports can be ‘unfavorable’ with respect to the assumption of elastic supports. This is the case for support-equipment systems of high frequency for which it is recommended to limit elastoplastic deformation. Conversely, for flexible support-equipment systems, it is beneficial to explore the ductility capacity of metallic supports. Finally, for engineering applications, behavior coefficients to consider the elastoplastic deformation in supports are proposed in the format of an abacus as a function of ductile capacity, hardening coefficients, and dimensionless frequencies of the equipment. Highlights This paper presents the experimental, analytical, and numerical extensive investigation into the flexural creep performance of pultruded glass fiber reinforced polymer (pGFRP) composites at elevated service temperatures. The experimental phase involved a physical testing program on pGFRP coupons in a four‐point bending setup covering a wide range of loads (12%, 24%, and 37% stress levels) and temperature conditions (20, 40, and 60°C) over a long test duration of 720 h. The analytical Burgers model was employed to provide theoretical insights into the time‐dependent deformation behaviors, while the finite element analysis (FEA) simulations using derived reduction factor validated the accuracy of the proposed procedure. Burgers model was able to capture the experimental data very well and reached the ultimate strain failure limit within about 1.4–50 years depending on the case. The proposed simple FEA procedure yielded a pattern closely resembling the one observed from Burgers model in which they resulted in estimated endurance times with a roughly 15% difference between them. The higher stress and/or temperature, the longer the primary creep stage is. Burgers model is able to capture the experimental data very well in all conditions. Burgers general equation is able to predict failure within about 1.4–50 years. The regulation of energy associated with heat transfer is the most important problem in the food processing, chemical and biomedical engineering industries. Therefore, this investigation explores the heat transfer qualities of micropolar hybrid-nanofluid also considering entropy generation which has recently become central focus of research in the field of heat transfer processes. The purpose of this analysis is to explore the influence of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), viscous dissipation, and heat radiation on the flow of hybrid-nanofluid with micropolar properties above an exponentially shrinking/stretching sheet. A mathematical model is constructed and the solution is acquired by utilizing numerical technique bvp-4c in MATLAB. The befitting usage of the second law of thermal physics helped in conducting the entropy production analysis. The study obtains numerical results for the governing equations, which reveal dual solutions when analyzing a shrinking sheet, contrary to a stretching sheet. The paper presents graphical depictions of the influence of different attributes upon micro-rotation, velocity, surface-friction, temperature, Nusselt number and also the entropy generation plus the Bejan number. Moreover, a comparison of heat transfer rates between conventional nanomaterial and hybrid-nanofluid is provided. Summary In this paper, computational analysis of a Caputo fractional variable‐order system with inductor‐capacitor (LC) and resistor‐capacitor (RC) electrical circuit models is presented. The existence and uniqueness of solutions to the given problem are determined using Schaefer's fixed point theorem and the Banach contraction principle, respectively. The proposed problem's computational consequences are addressed and analyzed using modified Euler and Runge–Kutta fourth‐order techniques. Furthermore, the suggested model compares several orders, including integer, fractional, and variable orders. To demonstrate the utility of the proposed approach, computational simulations are carried out on LC and RC circuit models of various orders. Induction heating is a clear, cheap, and highly effective technology used for many industrial and commercial applications. Generally, a time-varying magnetic field produces the required heat in the workpiece with a specially designed coil. The efficiency of the heating process depends highly on the coil design and the geometrical arrangement. A detailed and accurate finite element analysis of the induction heating process usually needs to resolve a coupled thermoelastic–magnetic problem, whose parameters values depend on the solution of another field. The paper deals with a shrink-fitting process design problem: a gear should be assembled with an axe. The interesting part of this case study is given the prescribed low limits for critical stress, the temperature of the gear material, and the heat-treated wearing surfaces. A coupled finite-element-based model and a genetic algorithm-based parameter determination methodology were presented. A thermal imaging-based measurement validated the presented numerical model and parameter determination task. Photovoltaic (PV) microgrids comprise a multitude of small PV power stations distributed across a specific geographical area in a decentralized manner. Computational services for forecasting the output power of power stations are crucial for optimizing resource deployment. This paper proposes a deep-learning-based architecture for short-term prediction of PV power. Firstly, in order to make full use of the spatial information between different power stations, a spatio–temporal feature fusion method is proposed. This method is capable of exploiting both the power information of neighboring power stations with strong correlations and meteorological information with the PV feature data of the target power station. By using a multiscale convolutional neural network–long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) network model, it is capable of generating a PV feature dataset containing spatio–temporal attributes that expand the data source and enhance the feature constraints. It is capable of predicting the output power sequences of power stations in PV microgrids with high model generalization and responsiveness. For the purpose of improving performance and reducing the fabrication difficulty of terahertz traveling wave tubes (TWTs), this paper proposes a novel single-section high-gain slow wave structure (SWS), which is named the symmetrical quasi-synchronous step-transition (SQSST) folded waveguide (FW). The SQSST-FW SWS has an artificially designed quasi-synchronous region (QSR) to suppress self-oscillations for sustaining a high gain in an untruncated circuit. Simultaneously, a symmetrical design can improve the efficiency performance to some extent. A prototype of the SQSST-FW SWS for 650 GHz TWTs is designed based on small-signal analysis and numerical simulation. The simulation results indicate that the maximum saturation gain of the designed 650 GHz SQSST-FW TWT is 39.1 dB in a 34.3 mm slow wave circuit, occurring at the 645 GHz point when a 25.4 kV 15 mA electron beam and a 0.43 mW sinusoidal input signal are applied. The Diffusion Peterlin Viscoelastic Fluid (DPVF) model describes the movement of specific incompressible polymeric fluids. In this paper, we introduce and evaluate a new low-complexity linear-time filter finite element (FE) method for the DPVF model. In order to avoid the value at time t = − Δ t , the proposed time filter method consists of three steps, including a post-processing step. Firstly, a first-order Euler backward nonlinear fully discrete mixed FE scheme is employed to compute the numerical solutions at time t 1 = Δ t. For n ≥ 1 , we obtain the intermediate values ( u ˜ h n + 1 , p ˜ h n + 1 , d ˜ h n + 1) in Step II using a fully implicit backward Euler scheme. At the same time level, we proceed with these intermediate values ( u ˜ h n + 1 , p ˜ h n + 1 , d ˜ h n + 1) using the linear time filters. The linear time filters step does not significantly increase computational complexity. However, it can enhance temporal convergence accuracy from first order to second order for backward Euler time filter (BE time filter), and from second order to three order for BDF2 time filter. We demonstrate the almost unconditional stability of the scheme. Error estimates for the time filter method are derived and presented. This paper examined the mechanical properties of wrist–hand orthoses made from polylactic acid (PLA) and polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG), produced through material extrusion with infill densities of 55% and 80%. These orthoses, commonly prescribed for wrist injuries, were 3D-printed flat and subsequently thermoformed to fit the user's hand. Experimental and numerical analyses assessed their mechanical resistance to flexion after typical wear conditions, including moisture and long-term aging, as well as their moldability. Digital Imaging Correlation investigations were performed on PLA and PETG specimens for determining the characteristics required for running numerical analysis of the mechanical behavior of the orthoses. The results indicated that even the orthoses with the lower infill density maintained suitable rigidity for wrist immobilization, despite a decrease in their mechanical properties after over one year of shelf life. PLA orthoses with 55% infill density failed at a mean load of 336 N (before aging) and 215 N (after aging), while PETG orthoses did not break during tests. Interestingly, PLA and PETG orthoses with 55% infill density were less influenced by aging compared to their 80% density counterparts. Additionally, moisture and aging affected the PLA orthoses more, with thermoforming, ongoing curing, and stress relaxation as possible explanations related to PETG behavior. This paper focuses on the finite‐time synchronization issue for reaction‐diffusion competitive neural networks (RCNNs) with different time scales and time‐varying delays. To reduce the waste of network resources, a periodically intermittent control strategy is presented based on two time scales (short and long memory) and time‐varying delay. By constructing the Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, with the help of Lyapunov stability theory and auxiliary inequality technique, the finite‐time synchronization can be guaranteed and the settling time is exactly estimated. This paper presents a research attempt towards frequency-based crack effect study in laminated composite beams (LCBs) through combined computational and experimental work. The focused objective of the undertaken research is to quantify the crack effects on the frequency behavior of LCBs. Towards achieving the objective, carbon/epoxy LCBs are the subject materials under consideration and to achieve the natural frequencies for the LCBs under free vibration, a combination of numerical simulation and experimental tests are conducted. ABAQUS, a powerful finite element (FE) simulation software is employed to develop precise numerical models representing the LCB's mechanical behavior and response to crack propagation. The free vibration experiments on LCB samples are conducted through a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzer under controlled crack scenarios aligning with the numerical simulation model. Through the frequency analysis, critical crack depths and positions that significantly influence the dynamic impact are identified. The study also explores the correlation between the computational and experimental results, enhancing the confidence in simulation models. The results from the study can aid in the early detection of damage and the optimization of repair strategies to ensure the structural reliability and safety of LCBs or alike composite components. To provide convenient access to service ducts, beam and girder web openings are very prevalent in practice. The insertion of a reinforced concrete (RC) beam into the web, however, reduces the stiffness and strength of the beam because of the local cracking around the aperture. The employ of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminas in general and not a specific type of them for reinforcing the holes was showed in this paper including their dimension and some design parameters change, such as the number and placement of (FRP) sheets near the opening. The experimental work was presented by comprised the testing of ten reinforced concrete beams, four of them were tested without reinforcement, five of which had (FRP) sheets around the opening for reinforcement, and the remaining beam was solid. The (FE) program consists of ten beams were modelled by using Abaqus, one of them was control solid beam and other nine beams were with hollow. The load-deflection relationships were evaluated before failure, and crack patterns were obtained and compared with the experimental results available. The numerical and experimental results agreed well. Reinforced concrete beams are the cornerstone of modern infrastructure, carrying heavy loads and forming the basic structure of buildings and structures. However, these beams may be damaged or deteriorated over time due to multiple factors such as corrosion, overload, moisture, and fire. In addition, the need to make modifications or openings in these beams for maintenance or service installation purposes may negatively affect their load-bearing capacity. To overcome these challenges, modern techniques have emerged to strengthen concrete elements, the most important of which is the technique of strengthening concrete with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). This technique is highly effective in increasing the load-bearing capacity of concrete beams, improving their performance under different loads, and extending their service life. A brief critique of the limitations of existing studies should be included to highlight the significance of the present work. Inadequate studies on the interaction between FRP and concrete: There are still gaps in our understanding of the interaction between FRP and concrete at the microscopic level, which affects the accuracy of computational models. The research focused on the behavior of FRP-reinforced concrete hollow core beams under different loads, filling a gap in previous research. In this paper, an experimental, numerical and analytical study is conducted on a 2 × 1 bored pile group on saturated sand under combined loading. Initially, a single-degree-of-freedom system founded on the pile group is tested at the ETH Zurich drum centrifuge under vertical, lateral and pushover loading, gaining insights and deriving benchmark results for validation of finite-element (FE) models. The latter account for non-linear soil–pile interaction, using hypoplasticity for sand and appropriate modelling of interfaces and pile response. Combining centrifuge and FE modelling, the governing resistance mechanisms are identified and quantified. The transition from model to prototype scale is achieved after careful consideration of scale effects. The concrete damaged plasticity model is employed to model the non-linear response of the reinforced concrete (RC) piles, accounting for axial load dependency of bending moment capacity. The prototype problem is studied parametrically, deriving failure envelopes for different levels of vertical loading. Distinguishable failure modes are identified, and the contribution of different resistance mechanisms is quantified. Finally, analytical failure envelopes are derived based on limit equilibrium, expanding Broms' theory to pile groups under combined loading. This paper reports the first observation of quasi‐Bragg scattering from collimating Goebel mirrors in a real instrument. On the basis of the experimental data obtained and the numerical analysis performed, it is concluded that it is necessary to take into account the effect of quasi‐Bragg scattering when constructing real devices with multilayer mirrors for use in X‐ray diffractometry and in spectroscopy, especially for small‐angle scattering with position‐sensitive detectors. Rapid flow-like landslides frequently occur in mountainous regions. To mitigate the disasters caused by these landslides, it is crucial to develop robust numerical models that can accurately predict their run-out processes. Models based on the material point method (MPM) offer significant advantages in simulating large deformation issues in geomaterials, including landslides. However, applying these models to accurately simulate real-world rapid flow-like landslides remains a challenge, primarily due to the complexities involved in handling the three-dimensional (3D) sliding bed boundary. This paper introduces a novel 3D MPM model specifically designed for simulating rapid flow-like landslides that propagate across curved beds. The constraints of the sliding bed on the landslide are imposed by the boundary nodes close to the bed. These boundary nodes carry information about the normal vector of the sliding bed, derived directly from the digital terrain model (DTM). Furthermore, the model integrates a hybrid formulation that combines the Full Lagrangian Implicit Particle (FLIP) method with the Particle In Cell (PIC) method, facilitating a stable solution for the velocity and position of material points. The effectiveness of the proposed model is confirmed through a numerical analysis of a rigid block sliding down an inclined plane and an experiment of sand flow on a curved bed. The simulation results from these two benchmark scenarios align closely with both analytical and experimental data, attesting to the validity of the model. The model is then applied to analyze a rapid flow-like landslide that occurred in Gansu Province, China, characterized by a curved sliding bed. The outcomes illustrate the model's capability to efficiently capture the landslide's climbing and turning motions induced by the meandering topography. Moreover, it successfully reproduces the main deposition characteristics observed in the field, demonstrating the model's strong suitability for simulating the propagation of rapid flow-like landslides on naturally curved beds.
