Automation in structural health monitoring (SHM) has greatly benefited from computer science's recent advances. Unlike images, the existing datasets for other types of input, such as vibration‐based damage data, are relatively smaller, less diverse, and highly imbalanced. Therefore, the reliability of data‐driven models developed for safety‐critical assessments can be questionable. This paper proposes a dual Bayesian inference where damage predictions are accompanied by measuring the model's confidence in predictions. First, it is shown how dual classification is integrated with Bayesian inference. Later, we introduce a surrogate deep learning module to transform the raw uncertainty output into an easily interpretable prediction uncertainty index (PUI). The PUI metric can be used to alarm a decision‐maker of the potential mistakes. The proposed dual Bayesian models are investigated on a 2D structure with seven different sensor layouts. Our approach yields increased robustness for different metrics compared with the benchmark. The paper is aimed to elaborate the floating point multiresolution, considering convergence that allows some more fractions than otherwise. It implies a calculation concerning infinite strings of digits, which is not implementable in the standard representation, but requires a dyadic one. Such a view is much more convenient for regarding convergence because of specific norm whose logarithm follows the multiresolution scale. Arithmetic operations are performed in almost the same manner as the standard floating point method. Conversions from one representation to another are discussed in details. The main advantage of the method concerns an opportunity of representing constructible angles in the Euclidean plane, which is significant inter alia for computational geometry. A basic application also concerns two's complement representation of negative numbers, which is accurate only if one implies convergence in regard to the norm. In natural language processing (NLP), transformer based models have surpassed recurrent neural networks (RNN) as state of the art, being introduced specifically to address the limitations of RNNs originating from its sequential nature. As a similar sequence modeling problem, transformer methods can be readily adapted for deep learning time series prediction. This paper proposes a sparse transformer based approach for electricity load prediction. The layers of a transformer addresses the shortcomings of RNNs and CNNs by applying the attention mechanism on the entire time series, allowing any data point in the input to influence any location in the output of the layer. This allows transformers to incorporate information from the entire sequence in a single layer. Attention computations can also be parallelized. Thus, transformers can achieve faster speeds, or trade this speed for more layers and increased complexity. In experiments on public datasets, the sparse transformer attained comparable accuracy to an RNN-based SOTA method (Liu et al., 2022) while being up to 5× faster during inference. Event sequence data is increasingly available. Many business operations are supported by information systems that record transactions, events, state changes, message exchanges, and similar elements. This observation also applies to various industries, including production, logistics, healthcare, financial services, and education. The variety of application areas explains that techniques for event sequence data analysis have been developed rather independently in different fields of computer science. Most prominent are contributions from information visualization and from process mining. So far, the contributions from these two fields have neither been compared nor have they been mapped to an integrated framework. Such intransparency is problematic since it bears the risk of opportunities of integration are missed and concepts established in one field are independently reinvented in the other one. In this paper, we develop the Event Sequence Visualization framework (ESeVis) that gives due credit to the traditions of both fields. This paper studies the mathematical properties of collectively canalizing Boolean functions, a class of functions that has arisen from applications in systems biology. Boolean networks are an increasingly popular modeling framework for regulatory networks, and the class of functions studied here captures a key feature of biological network dynamics, namely that a subset of one or more variables, under certain conditions, can dominate the value of a Boolean function, to the exclusion of all others. These functions have rich mathematical properties to be explored. The paper shows how the number and type of such sets influence a function's behavior and define a new measure for the canalizing strength of any Boolean function. We further connect the concept of collective canalization with the well-studied concept of the average sensitivity of a Boolean function. The relationship between Boolean functions and the dynamics of the networks they form is important in a wide range of applications beyond biology, such as computer science, and has been studied with statistical and simulation-based methods. But the rich relationship between structure and dynamics remains largely unexplored, and this paper is intended as a contribution to its mathematical foundation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The science of soft robots, or soft robotics, is currently one of the most active fields in robotics. While traditional robots consist of rigid bodies, powerful servomotors, and carefully coded programs to realize power, precision, and reliability, soft robots consist of soft and flexible bodies, actuators, and intelligence for adaptability. They are not rigid, but instead flexible toward their surroundings. These differences have the potential to make soft robotics a great new field in robotics. A JSPS KAKENHI project "Science of Soft Robots" has been in progress in Japan since 2018. Part of this special issue is made in collaboration with this project. This special issue consists of 46 works in total: 2 review papers, 29 letters, and 15 papers. One review paper, 29 letters, and 3 research papers report research activities from the JSPS KAKENHI project, and the other review paper and 12 research papers have been contributed from outside the project. As this issue will make clear, the science of soft robots is a very interdisciplinary academic field, a collaboration of many researchers from various fields, such as mechanical/electrical engineering, computer science, material sciences, biology, zoology, medicine, and nursing, among others. We believe interdisciplinary work to be a key point for the exploration of soft robotics. Conceptual modeling is integral to computer science research and is widely adopted in industrial practices, e.g., business process and enterprise architecture management. Providing adequate and usable modeling tools is necessary to adopt modeling languages efficiently. Meta-modeling platforms provide a rich and mature set of functionalities for realizing state-of-the-art modeling tools. These tools, albeit their stability and rich set of features, often lack a modern look and feel considering (i) how they visualize the models, and (i i) how modelers interact with the models. Current web technologies enable much richer, advanced opportunities for visualizing and interacting with conceptual models. However, a structured and comprehensive overview of possible information visualization and interaction techniques linked to conceptual models and modeling tools must be established. This paper aims to fill this gap by presenting an extended taxonomy of advanced information visualization and interaction in conceptual modeling. We present a generic taxonomy that is afterward contextualized within the specific domain of conceptual modeling. In this paper, we consider the perfect demand matching problem (PDM) which combines aspects of the knapsack problem along with the b -matching problem. It is a generalization of the maximum weight matching problem which has been fundamental in the development of theory of computer science and operations research. This problem is NP-hard and there exists a constant ϵ > 0 such that the problem admits no 1 + ϵ -approximation algorithm, unless P=NP. Here, we investigate the performance of a distributed message passing algorithm called Max-sum belief propagation for computing the problem of finding the optimal perfect demand matching. As the main result, we demonstrate the rigorous theoretical analysis of the Max-sum BP algorithm for PDM , and establish that within pseudo-polynomial-time, our algorithm could converge to the optimal solution of PDM , provided that the optimal solution of its LP relaxation is unique and integral. Different from the techniques used in previous literature, our analysis is based on primal-dual complementary slackness conditions, and thus the number of iterations of the algorithm is independent of the structure of the given graph. Modern businesses benefit significantly from advances in computer vision technology, one of the important sectors of artificially intelligent and computer science research. Advanced computer vision issues like image processing, object recognition, and biometric authentication can benefit from using deep learning methods. As smart devices and facilities advance rapidly, current networks such as 4 G and the forthcoming 5 G networks may not adapt to the rapidly increasing demand. Classification of images, object classification, and facial recognition software are some of the most difficult computer vision problems that can be solved using deep learning methods. As a new paradigm for 6Core network design and analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) has recently been used. Therefore, in this paper, the 6 G wireless network is used along with Deep Learning to solve the above challenges by introducing a new methodology named Optimizing Computer Vision with AI-enabled technology (OCV-AI). This research uses deep learning – efficiency algorithms (DL-EA) for computer vision to address the issues mentioned and improve the system's outcome. Therefore, deep learning 6 G proposed frameworks (Dl-6 G) are suggested in this paper to recognize pattern recognition and intelligent management systems and provide driven methodology planned to be provisioned automatically. For Advanced analytics wise, 6 G networks can summarize the significant areas for future research and potential solutions, including image enhancement, machine vision, and access control. Noticing that ordinary metrics do not present an adequate tool for the study of analytic problems of word combinatorics, as well as in the research of some problems related to theoretical computer science, we propose to use fuzzy metrics in this type of problems. Specifically, the so-called strong fuzzy metric seems to be more appropriate here. In the first part of the paper, we study some special classes of strong fuzzy metrics, topological and lattice properties of certain families of strong fuzzy metrics, and, more generally, strong k-fuzzy metrics. Noticing that one of the standard axioms of a strong fuzzy metric can be easily violated when applied in real situations, in the second part of the paper we introduce more general, approximating fuzzy metrics and illustrate their applicability with some numerical examples. • Fileless malware has no signature because it does not leverage executable files. • We suggest a memory-based approach for detecting and analyzing fileless malware. • This proposed method offers useful insight for the experts working in this field. • The proposed methodʼs applicability was demonstrated using a real case study sample. The rapid advancements in cyber-attack strategies are in parallel with the measures for detection, analysis, and prevention. Attackers have recently developed fileless malware that can simply bypass existing security mechanisms. Researchers publish reports to help discover fileless malware and to better understand the threatʼs scope to counteract it. However, with the lack of studies on fileless malware regarding the classification and the scale of the threat, they have not been thoroughly analyzed. As a result, in this research, we explored the most recent advancements in fileless malware prevention and detection and highlighted future research challenges. We also propose an analytical approach based on the attack strategies and attributes of the selected sample. Our method simplifies feature extraction and reduces processing load. Furthermore, compared to the static analysis we do not need for decompression and unpacking for the analysis. We applied the proposed method on a real case example. It has been seen that information about fileless malware detection, working mechanism, attack method and attacker named "Kovter" can be accessed. Our approach is advantageous and can be applied as a new technique for fileless malware detection to protect systems from cyber threats. This paper also presents an insight to the fileless malware threat and provides a basic review of the methods and techniques used in the detection and analysis of fileless malware attacks. Generation Z members use their smart devices as part of their everyday routine. Teaching methods may need to be updated to make learning materials more interesting for this generation. This paper suggests gamifying computer science subjects to enhance the learning experience for this generation. Additionally, many students face difficulty in understanding computer science materials and algorithms. Gamifying computer science education is one of the suggested teaching methods to simplify topics and increase students' engagement. Moreover, the field of computer science is dominated by males. The use of gamification could increase women's interest in this field. This paper demonstrates different techniques that were developed by the researchers to employ gamification in teaching computer science topics. The data was collected at the end of the two different courses. Results show that students enjoyed the suggested teaching method and found it useful. This paper also demonstrates two tools and their gamification elements. These tools were developed by the researchers to help people learn computer programming and information security. In computer science, an ontology is a way of showing the properties of a subject area and how they are related by defining a set of concepts and categories that represent the subject. There have been many attempts to create a widely accepted ontology for the universe of games. Most of these attempts are defined based on an analytical perspective: few have found frequent use outside universities, as they are not easily translated to the development of games, which is a design perspective. There are some core aspects of the domain that turn this task into a difficult goal to achieve. In addition, game designers tend to refuse a methodology or a structured way of developing a game; the main concern is that it can impair creativity in a field that could not survive without it. A defined ontology would improve and mature the growing industry of digital games, both by enhancing the understanding of the domain and by supporting a structured methodology for designing games. This paper describes the properties of digital games and shows how they make it difficult to create an ontology for that field of study, especially when it comes to a design perspective. It clarifies the closest approach to a unified ontology that there is for the game domain: the mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics framework (MDA). We propose the redefinition of MDA's taxonomy, calling it Redefining the MDA (RMDA), providing better use for the approach from a designer's perspective, embracing the design properties of the domain, and overcoming issues found in the literature of the game domain. The main purpose of this paper is to clarify the MDA framework by redefining its main components, mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics, as a way to make the tool more understandable and useful for game designers. Understanding aesthetics and how developers can invoke them by correctly defining mechanics and creating dynamics is the main focus of the paper. Over the last 20 years Machine Learning (ML) has been applied to a wide variety of applications in the fields of engineering and computer science. In the field of material science in particular, it has been used to help speed up predictions of structure property relationships and in general enhance the material design process. In this paper, we review the current status of ML and its specific application to polymer composites process simulation. We also review some case studies going beyond this focus, especially in the fields of computational fluid dynamics, solid mechanics and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), to show the potential for further application in our research area. The types of ML algorithms, tools, techniques used in the various applications and their couplings with other CAE software tools are summarized and the overall result/potential of each application/method is highlighted. One of the popular metaheuristic search algorithms is Harmony Search (HS). It has been verified that HS can find solutions to optimization problems due to its balanced exploratory and convergence behavior and its simple and flexible structure. This capability makes the algorithm preferable to be applied in several real-world applications in various fields, including healthcare systems, different engineering fields, and computer science. The popularity of HS urges us to provide a comprehensive survey of the literature on HS and its variants on health systems, analyze its strengths and weaknesses, and suggest future research directions. In this review paper, the current studies and uses of harmony search are studied in four main domains. (i) The variants of HS, including its modifications and hybridization. (ii) Summary of the previous review works. (iii) Applications of HS in healthcare systems. (iv) And finally, an operational framework is proposed for the applications of HS in healthcare systems. The main contribution of this review is intended to provide a thorough examination of HS in healthcare systems while also serving as a valuable resource for prospective scholars who want to investigate or implement this method. Clustering is an essential tool in data mining research and applications. It is the subject of active research in many fields of study, such as computer science, data science, statistics, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Several clustering techniques have been proposed and implemented, and most of them successfully find excellent quality or optimal clustering results in the domains mentioned earlier. However, there has been a gradual shift in the choice of clustering methods among domain experts and practitioners alike, which is precipitated by the fact that most traditional clustering algorithms still depend on the number of clusters provided a priori. These conventional clustering algorithms cannot effectively handle real-world data clustering analysis problems where the number of clusters in data objects cannot be easily identified. Also, they cannot effectively manage problems where the optimal number of clusters for a high-dimensional dataset cannot be easily determined. Therefore, there is a need for improved, flexible, and efficient clustering techniques. Recently, a variety of efficient clustering algorithms have been proposed in the literature, and these algorithms produced good results when evaluated on real-world clustering problems. This study presents an up-to-date systematic and comprehensive review of traditional and state-of-the-art clustering techniques for different domains. This survey considers clustering from a more practical perspective. It shows the outstanding role of clustering in various disciplines, such as education, marketing, medicine, biology, and bioinformatics. It also discusses the application of clustering to different fields attracting intensive efforts among the scientific community, such as big data, artificial intelligence, and robotics. This survey paper will be beneficial for both practitioners and researchers. In the context of the DigiLab4U international project, this paper describes a simulation-based serious game that can be used as a virtual teaching lab in higher education courses, especially in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Data Science, Management Science and Operations Research, as well as Computer Science. The learning activity focuses on understanding distribution logistics problems related to transportation optimization using different techniques. These optimization challenges include the vehicle routing problem, the arc routing problem, and the team orienteering problem. As a result of the learning process in the virtual lab, it is expected that students acquire competencies and skills related to logistics and transportation challenges as well as problem-solving. These competencies and skills can be precious for students' future careers, since they increase students' analytical skills, capacity to understand heuristic-based algorithms, teamwork and interdisciplinary communication skills, programming skills, and statistical abilities. In wireless sensor networks (WSN), flooding increases the reliability in terms of successful transmission of a packet with higher overhead. The flooding consumes the resources of the network quickly, especially in sensor networks, mobile ad-hoc networks, and vehicular ad-hoc networks in terms of the lifetime of the node, lifetime of the network, and battery lifetime, etc. This paper aims to develop an efficient and reliable protocol by using multicasting and unicasting to overcome the issue of higher overhead due to flooding. Unicasting is used when the desired destination is at a minimum distance to avoid an extra overhead and increases the efficiency of the network in terms of overhead and energy because unicasting is favorable where the distance is minimum. Similarly, multicasting is used when the desired destination is at maximum distance and increases the network's reliability in terms of throughput. The results are implemented in the Department of Computer Science, Bacha Khan University Charsadda (BKUC), Pakistan, as well as in the Network Simulator-2 (NS-2). The results are compared with benchmark schemes such as PUMA and ERASCA, and based on the results, the performance of the proposed approach is improved in terms of overhead, throughput, and packet delivery fraction by avoiding flooding. Prediction of visual attention is a new and challenging subject, and to the best of our knowledge, there are not many pieces of research devoted to the anticipation of students' cognition when solving tests. The aim of this paper is to propose, implement, and evaluate a machine learning method that is capable of predicting saliency maps of students who participate in a learning task in the form of quizzes based on quiz questionnaire images. Our proposal utilizes several deep encoder–decoder symmetric schemas which are trained on a large set of saliency maps generated with eye tracking technology. Eye tracking data were acquired from students, who solved various tasks in the sciences and natural sciences (computer science, mathematics, physics, and biology). The proposed deep convolutional encoder–decoder network is capable of producing accurate predictions of students' visual attention when solving quizzes. Our evaluation showed that predictions are moderately positively correlated with actual data with a coefficient of 0.547 ± 0.109. It achieved better results in terms of correlation with real saliency maps than state-of-the-art methods. Visual analyses of the saliency maps obtained also correspond with our experience and expectations in this field. Influence Maximization Problem (IMP) is selecting a seed set of nodes in the social network to spread the influence as widely as possible. It has many applications in multiple domains, e.g., viral marketing is frequently used for new products or activities advertisement. While it is a classic and well-studied problem in computer science, unfortunately, all those proposed techniques are compromising among time efficiency, memory consumption, and result quality. In this paper, we conduct comprehensive experimental studies on the state-of-the-art IMP approximate approaches to reveal the underlying trade-off strategies. Interestingly, we find that even the state-of-the-art approaches are impractical when the propagation probability of the network have been taken into consideration. With the findings of existing approaches, we propose a novel residual-based approach (i.e., RCELF) for IMP , which (i) overcomes the deficiencies of existing approximate approaches, and (ii) provides theoretical guaranteed results with high efficiency in both time- and space-perspectives. We demonstrate the superiority of our proposal by extensive experimental evaluation on real datasets. • We reveal the trade-off strategies among the approximate approaches for IMP. • An effective and efficient approximate algorithm called RCELF is proposed. • The performance of RCELF is extensively evaluated on 5 real-world datasets. E. Yi recently introduced the fractional edge dimension of graphs. It has many applications in different areas of computer science such as in sensor networking, intelligent systems, optimization, and robot navigation. In this paper, the fractional edge dimension of vertex and edge transitive graphs is calculated. The class of hypercube graph Q n with an odd number of vertices n is discussed. We propose the combinatorial criterion for the calculation of the fractional edge dimension of a graph, and hence applied it to calculate the fractional edge dimension of the friendship graph F k and the class of circulant graph C n (1 , 2) . The paper suggests a general method for proving the fact whether a certain set is p-computable or not. The method is based on a polynomial analogue of the classical Gandy's fixed point theorem. Classical Gandy's theorem deals with the extension of a predicate through a special operator Γ Φ (x) Ω ∗ and states that the smallest fixed point of this operator is a Σ -set. Our work uses a new type of operator which extends predicates so that the smallest fixed point remains a p-computable set. Moreover, if in the classical Gandy's fixed point theorem, the special Σ -formula Φ (x ¯) is used in the construction of the operator, then a new operator uses special generating families of formulas instead of a single formula. This work opens up broad prospects for the application of the polynomial analogue of Gandy's theorem in the construction of new types of terms and formulas, in the construction of new data types and programs of polynomial computational complexity in Turing complete languages.
