Oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids exert several beneficial effects on human health, some of which are also certified by recent European and U.S. regulations. The goal of the presented work was to develop an innovative methodology to evaluate their content in edible vegetable oils, in order to increase the value of oils from a nutraceutical perspective. The protocol is based on the use of paper spray ionization coupled with tandem mass spectrometry experiments, which allowed the recording of data very quickly and with high specificity. All investigated compounds gained a good linear relation (r2 higher than 0.98). Accuracy values are near 100% for all concentration levels examined, and the repeatability and reproducibility data result lower than 15%, highlighting the consistence of the methodology. The developed approach was successfully applied for the analysis of different real samples, and its robustness was confirmed by comparing the results obtained with those coming from the classical and official methodology. Studies have shown that fluorinated oil repellents are potentially harmful to humans and the environment, and therefore, the development of non-toxic, green, and environmentally friendly oil repellents has become inevitable. Microcrystalline wax is a branched saturated alkane with a molecular weight of 580–700 Da, which has a lower surface tension than edible oil. Herein, microcrystalline wax emulsion (fluorine-free oil repellent) was prepared by mechanical stirring–homogenization, the effects of emulsifier ratio and dosage on the emulsion performance were systematically investigated, and the resultant stable microcrystalline wax emulsions were applied to the paper surface to explore the oil and water resistance and water vapor barrier performance. The results showed that stabilized microcrystalline wax emulsion was obtained at the emulsifier Span-80/Tween-80 ratio of 5:5, and the emulsifier dosage was 20% (relative to the microcrystalline wax). When 6 g/m2 of microcrystalline wax was applied to the surface of starch pretreated paper, the kit rating value of the paper was high, at up to 10/12, the Cobb60 value decreased to 12.5 g/m2, the overall migration of paper was less than 10 mg/dm2, and the water vapor permeability was reduced by 81.9%, which met the requirements of oil and water resistance performance of food packaging paper. Energy sources are crucial for the development and growth of economies and civilizations. Solar energy is an alternative energy to generate electrical power. The challenges of solar photovoltaic panels (PV) are the low output power and efficiency and the huge installation area beside PVs need a tracking system for better efficiency. The motivation of this paper is to design an innovative solar sphere system, which is a new concentrated photovoltaic technology that has better performance (efficiency and output power) than the normal conventional solar panel (PV) with a smaller installation area and without any tracking system. This design consists of an acrylic solar sphere entirely filled with cooking oil (sunflower or corn oil) that captures solar radiation and concentrates it on a focal point. The focal point is adjusted over a multi-junction cell that acts as a collector device (concentrator solar cell). This focused solar energy can generate a massive amount of power, which is used to produce more electricity than normal photovoltaic panels. The experiments were carried out in order to discover the best acrylic models or shape designs, which is the sphere, the best materials or media in the sphere, that is oil, the best sphere's size and volume, and that is larger, the best sphere thickness, which at first is lower, the best fluid oil type, which is cooking oil, and finally the best fluid amount or volume inside the sphere, and this is the entire volume. Then, these factors mentioned above are compared with normal photovoltaics (PV) that have the same section area as these shapes. The results revealed that these factors have significant effects on the output power value and efficiency. It has been demonstrated that our innovative concentrated solar sphere system can produce nearly four times the output power or electricity greater than that of a conventional solar panel PV with the same cross-sectional area. This specific sort of compression is crucial because it shows that less space is required to establish this system than it would to install conventional solar panels. The performance of the system per unit of the square area it occupies was compared to the latest generation of flat panel PV available at the market performance; hence, the installation space will be decreased by 40% to 60%. Our system has about twice as much efficiency as solar PV and does not require a tracking system and maintenance. Over 50 MioT of Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) was collected worldwide in 2020 from domestic and industrial activities, constituting a potential hazard for both water and land environments, and requiring appropriate disposal management strategies. In line with the principles of circular economy and eco-design, in this paper an innovative methodology for the valorisation of WCO as a rejuvenating agent for bitumen 50/70 coming from Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is reported. In particular, WCO or hydrolysed WCO (HWCO) was modified by transesterification or amidation reactions to achieve various WCO esters and amides. All samples were characterised by nuclear magnetic resonance, melting, and boiling point. Since rejuvenating agents for RAP Cold Mix Asphalt require a melting point ≤0 °C, only WCO esters could further be tested. Efficiency of WCO esters was assessed by means of the Asphaltenes Dispersant Test and the Heithaus Parameter. In particular, bitumen blends containing 25 wt% of WCO modified with 2-phenylethyl alcohol, showed high dispersing capacity in n-heptane even after a week, compared to bitumen alone (1 h). Additionally, the Heithaus Parameter of this bitumen blend was almost three times higher than bitumen alone, further demonstrating beneficial effects deriving from the use of WCO esters as rejuvenating agents. This study used a novel combination of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and calcium oxide (CaO) nanocomposite (CaO/CNCs) for the production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil. The filter paper was used as a raw cellulose source to produce the CNCs from the acid hydrolysis of cellulose with sulfuric acid. The as-synthesized CaO/CNC nanocomposite is recyclable and environmentally friendly and was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The optimum process parameters investigated are a 20:1 methanol-to-oil molar ratio, 3-weight percent catalyst concentration, 60 °C temperature, and 90 min of reaction time. Under the optimum conditions, a biodiesel yield of 84% was obtained. The CaO/CNC nanocomposite achieved five times reusability, indicating its effectiveness and reusability in the transesterification reaction. The synthesized biodiesel chemical composition was examined using FTIR, GCMS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR, and its properties, including specific gravity, color, flash point, cloud point, pour point, viscosity, sulfur content, sediments, water content, total acid number, cetane number, and corrosion test, were ascertained using ASTM standard practices. The outcomes were determined to fulfill global biodiesel standards (ASTM 951, 6751). Five successive transesterification processes were used to test the regeneration of the catalyst; the first three showed no distinct change, while the fifth cycle showed a reduction of up to 79%. The cooking oil fume particulate (COFP) produced by indoor cooking can harm human health seriously, and therefore requires urgent monitoring and optimization. In this paper, the kitchen cooking simulation process was established by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based on the fluid dynamics theory. Combined with the user defined function (UDF), the spatial and temporal distributions of COFP and carbon dioxide (CO2) during the cooking process were simulated and analyzed, respectively. Both simulation results were verified using experimental data. Moreover, this paper introduces a COFP concentration correlation function that utilizes the spatiotemporal correlation between COFP and CO2 concentrations during the cooking process. The function is based on the spatiotemporal distribution of CO2 concentration. By comparing it with traditional calculations, the proposed function is shown to achieve a remarkable 70% improvement in efficiency and maintain an accuracy rate exceeding 90%. With the proposal of replacing toxic solvents with non-toxic solvents in the concept of green chemistry, the development and utilization of new green extraction techniques have become a research hotspot. Phenolic compounds in edible oils have good antioxidant activity, but due to their low content and complex matrix, it is difficult to achieve a high extraction rate in a green and efficient way. This paper reviews the current research status of novel extraction materials in solid-phase extraction, including carbon nanotubes, graphene and metal–organic frameworks, as well as the application of green chemical materials in liquid-phase extraction, including deep eutectic solvents, ionic liquids, supercritical fluids and supramolecular solvents. The aim is to provide a more specific reference for realizing the green and efficient extraction of polyphenolic compounds from edible oils, as well as another possibility for the future research trend of green extraction technology. Fatigue cracking has hitherto been a crucial constraint on the development of reclaimed asphalt pavements attributed to the performance of rejuvenated asphalt binder. Therefore, it is extremely significant to evaluate the fatigue performance of rejuvenated asphalt precisely and objectively and to improve the fatigue life of rejuvenated asphalt binders. With preceding research in our group, this paper investigated the fatigue properties of waste rubber/oil (WRO) rejuvenated asphalt and universal rejuvenated asphalt by dynamic shear rheometer test (DSR). The applicability of common fatigue life evaluation indexes and the response to internal and external influences on the fatigue performance of rejuvenated asphalt were analyzed. It is demonstrated that Np20 corresponding to the mutagenesis of phase angle is physically significant and independent of the parameters including rejuvenator type, loading mode and loading level, which was recommended as the evaluation index for fatigue life of rejuvenated asphalt in this paper. The fatigue performance of both WRO and universal rejuvenated asphalt is found to decrease with loading frequency and loading level, but the fatigue life of WRO rejuvenated asphalt is comparatively superior to the latter, particularly at high loading frequencies and levels. Influenced by waste tire crumb rubber (WTCR), increasing the proportion of WTCR can improve the fatigue life of rejuvenated asphalt. When compared to other rejuvenated asphalt, RWRO@55 rejuvenated asphalt shows better fatigue performance and its fatigue life rebounds at high loading frequency. Consequently, the recommended mastic–oil ratio is 5:5. However, when the rheological recoverability compensation is considered, the fatigue lifetime evaluation of rejuvenated asphalt will be changed significantly, and therefore the fatigue performance evaluation of rejuvenated asphalt should consider the influence of rheological recoverability to develop a comprehensive evaluation system. During the transport, storage, and consumption of edible vegetable oils, the color of some freshly refined oils is gradually darkened, which is known as the color reversion. The oil industry has been plagued by the issue for a long time because the dark color of the oil is related to its poor quality and low acceptability for consumers. Color reversion of refined vegetable oils is primarily related to the processing pigments, especially tocored, which is the oxidation product of γ-tocopherol. However, the underlying molecular action mechanism of tocored is not yet fully understood due to the complex transformations of tocored in oil systems. This paper presents a brief description of oil color, followed by an overview of research progress on the mechanism of color reversion. In particular, the effect of minor components (phospholipids and metal ions) on color reversion is highlighted in an attempt to explain the remaining mysteries of color reversion. Furthermore, the measures to restrain color reversion by quality control of the oilseeds, the adjustment of technical parameters of processing, and the storage conditions of refined oils are summarized to provide some references for the oil industry. Modern societies and industrial sectors are serviced through storage and distribution centres (SDCs) such as supermarkets, malls, warehouses, etc. Large quantities of supplies are stocked here, e.g., food grains, clothes, shoes, pharmaceuticals, electronics, plastics, edible oils, electrical wires/equipment, petroleum products, painting materials, etc. Fires due to the burning of these materials are categorized into six classes, viz., Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D, Class K, and Class F. A fire is extinguished better when the right type of fire retardant is used. A thumb rule on firefighting also says, "never fight a fire if you do not know what is burning". In this paper, we have proposed an Intelligent Decision Support System (ID2S4FH) to generate a real-time 'fire-map' of such SDCs during a fire hazard. We have interfaced six tin-oxide-based gas sensor elements, a temperature and humidity sensor, and a particulate matter (PM) sensor with microcontrollers to capture the real-time signature patterns of the ambient air. We burned sixteen different types of materials belonging to six classes of fire and created a dataset consisting of 2400 samples. The sensor array responses were then pre-processed and analysed using various classifiers trained in different analysis space domains. Among the classifiers, four classifiers achieved 'all correct' identification of the fire classes of 80 unknown test samples, and the lowest mean squared error (MSE) achieved was 2.81 × 10−3. Glycerine (glycerol) is a polyol consisting of three carbon atoms bonded to hydroxyl groups. It is a by-product of the transesterification of triglycerides, such as animal fats, vegetable oils, or used cooking oils during the biodiesel production process. Crude glycerine is subject to purification processes resulting in distilled glycerine containing at least 99.5% glycerol. Currently, produced high-quality distilled glycerine is used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Recently, technologies for converting glycerol to other chemicals through catalytic processes have been intensively developed, e.g., production of bio-based 1,2-propanediol. In the near future, glycerol will certainly become a promising renewable raw material in many modern biorefineries for the synthesis of biofuels, chemicals, and bioenergy production. This paper presents the possibility of using ion exchange resins to remove impurities with trace amounts of sulphur and nitrogen compounds from crude and distilled glycerine, produced during the biodiesel production process from used cooking oils. It was determined that using ion exchange resins at the preliminary purification stage (before distillation) was ineffective. Using cationite resins to purify distilled glycerine produced from waste materials enables the removal of impurities in the form of sulphur and nitrogen compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This special issue (SI) focused on the novel methods developed using contactless sensors for food, beverages and packaging. The use of traditional methods to evaluate food, beverages, and packaging tends to be time-consuming, labour-intensive, and usually involves high costs due to the need for expensive equipment, regular refill of consumables, skilled personnel and, in the case of sensory evaluation, incentives or payments involved for participants recruitment and/or panelists training and participation. Other papers focus on the use of other specific sensors, such as a low-cost and portable electronic nose (e-nose) to predict aromas and roasting intensity in coffee [[5]] and the use of flexible sensors for monitoring oyster survival rates [[6]]. In order to explore the diffusion and regeneration of bio-oil in aged bitumen, waste cooking oil (WCO), waste wood oil (WWO) and straw liquefied residue oil (SLRO) were selected in this paper. According to the surface wetting theory, the contact angle is obtained by combining laboratory experiments with molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, and the wetting parameters are calculated to evaluate the wetting behavior of bio-oil. The experimental phenomena of the wetting process and the main factors driving wetting are further analyzed. A permeation experiment is designed to obtain the permeation fusion layer (PFL). If the crossover modulus of PFLs changes compared with that of the aged bitumen, it is determined that the bio-oil penetrates the corresponding fusion layer. The results show that the motion of bio-oil included spreading and shrinking processes, and a precursor film played a pivotal role in the transportation of nanodroplets. Higher surface tension, lower viscosity and cohesion can effectively promote the wettability of bio-oil. A higher temperature and a longer permeation time are conducive to the permeation of bio-oil in aged bitumen. WCO with the strongest wettability has the weakest permeability, while WWO has superior permeability and can activate the macromolecules' surface activity, but its wettability is relatively weak. The bioactivity of the versatile biodegradable biopolymer poly(lactic acid) (PLA) can be obtained by combining it with natural or synthetic compounds. This paper deals with the preparation of bioactive formulations involving the melt processing of PLA loaded with a medicinal plant (sage) and an edible oil (coconut oil), together with an organomodifed montmorillonite nanoclay, and an assessment of the resulting structural, surface, morphological, mechanical, and biological properties of the biocomposites. By modulating the components, the prepared biocomposites show flexibility, both antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, as well as a high degree of cytocompatibility, being capable to induce the cell adherence and proliferation on their surface. The publication deals with the problem of the effect of interference with the movement of the "preceding" train on the movement of the "following" train in the case of efforts to reduce the distance between trains on a moving block interval. The paper presents results of the simulations for train of the ED250 type for a set of 135 traffic situations: for three contexts of reducing the speed of the "preceding" train, for five variants of the method of controlling the "following" train and for nine initial distances between these trains. The results confirmed the possibility of gaining time and energy benefits by implementing an appropriate method of controlling the "following" train, as well as providing insights into the area of shortening the gaps between trains, including the pursuit of synchronizing the speed of trains and possibly coupling them into a so-called virtual couples. It is important to understand the features of an integrated renewable energy power system, especially for deregulated systems. The greatest obstacle to assimilating renewable energy generators with the existing electrical system is their unpredictability. Because wind energy is inconsistent, incorporating it into an established power system necessitates more planning. The effects of wind farm (WF) incorporation with fuel cells and a unified power flow controller (UPFC) on electric losses, voltage profile, generating price, and the economics of the system in a deregulated power market are examined in this paper. An impact analysis of integrating wind farms into controlled and uncontrolled situations is conducted. At two randomly selected locations in India, the real-time statistics of the actual wind speed (AWS) and forecasted wind speed (FWS) were merged for this study. The surplus charge rate and deficit charge rate are intended to evaluate the imbalance cost which is arising from the difference between anticipated and true wind speeds to determine the economics of the system. Customers are always trying to find electricity that is reliable, inexpensive, and efficient due to the reconfiguration of the power system. As a consequence, the security limitations of the system may be surpassed or might function beyond the safety limit, which is undesirable. In the last section, heuristic algorithms, such as sequential quadratic programming (SQP), artificial bee colony algorithms (ABC), and moth-flame optimization algorithms (MFO), are employed to analyze economic risk. In the real-time energy market, it also covers how the fuel cells and UPFC are utilized to rectify the WF integration's deviation. In the biometric field, vein identification is a vital process that is constrained by the invisibility of veins as well as other unique features. Moreover, users generally do not wish to have their personal information uploaded to the cloud, so edge computing has become popular for the sake of protecting user privacy. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity and lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) and we design intellectual property (IP) for shortening the inference time in finger vein recognition. This neural network system can operate independently in client mode. After fetching the user's finger vein image via a near-infrared (NIR) camera mounted on an embedded system, vein features can be efficiently extracted by vein curving algorithms and user identification can be completed quickly. Better image quality and higher recognition accuracy can be obtained by combining several preprocessing techniques and the modified CNN. Experimental data were collected by the finger vein image capture equipment developed in our laboratory based on the specifications of similar products currently on the market. Biofuel is an attractive alternative to fossil fuels since it is renewable and biodegradable—it is mainly made from edible and non-edible sources. Globally, the usage of renewable biofuels is expected to rise quickly. The rising production and use of biofuel has prompted an examination of its environmental impact. Biodiesel is a fatty acid methyl ester generated from sustainable lipid feedstock that substitutes petroleum-based diesel fuel. Non-food oils, such as Jatropha, waste cooking oil, and by-products of vegetable oil from refineries provide inexpensive feedstock for biodiesel manufacturing. Due to its increased oil yield, adequate fatty acid content, tolerance to various agro-climatic conditions, and short gestation period, Jatropha may be one of the most promoted oilseed crops worldwide. Furthermore, Jatropha can provide several economic and agronomic advantages because it is a biodegradable, renewable plant. This study examines whether Jatropha can be considered as the most preferable biofuel in the future. The study begins with an overview of current fuels, including their classifications, dynamic changes in consumption, advantages, and cross-examining the limitations to identify the significance of bringing an alternate fuel. Then we elaborate on the outlook of the Jatropha crop, followed by evaluating its availability, opportunity, and advantages over other biofuels. Subsequently, the extraction methods, including the transesterification process and integration methods for improving the efficiency of Jatropha fuel, are also reviewed in the paper. Cooking food in water or soup, such as hot pot, is a widely used cooking method in China. This type of cooking requires no oil and cooks at a lower temperature, but that does not mean it produces fewer pollutants or is less harmful. There are few research studies on the emission characteristics and mechanisms of particulate matter emissions when eating hot pot (the boiling process), which leads to the unreasonable design of ventilation systems for this kind of catering. In this paper, the effects of boiling different ingredients (including noodles, potatoes, fish, tofu, meatballs, and pork) on particle number concentration emissions were studied. The particle number concentration and particle size distribution of PM with diameters of 0.3 μm and less, 0.3–0.5 μm and 0.5–1.0 μm (PM0.3, PM0.3–0.5 and PM0.5–1.0, respectively) were measured in an experimental chamber. The food type and shape showed very little change in the PM emission characteristics of boiling. When the boiling state was reached, the number concentration, particle size distribution, and arithmetic mean diameter of particles all fluctuated within 60 s. The emission characteristics of particles produced by boiling water and heating oil were compared. Heating oil produced more small particles, and boiling water released more large particles. Transient and steady methods were used to calculate the emission rate of particles, and the steady-state calculation has a high estimation of the emission rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper elaborates on the production of distilled biodiesel of standard EN14214 from waste cooking oil (WCO). Its economic viability is assessed and experimental investigations of a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine using a mixture of distilled biodiesel and diesel of Euro 5 standard are described. The physical and chemical characteristics of biodiesel produced from waste cooking oil were determined. Fuel samples prepared with different percentages of biodiesel and diesel were used to run the engine. We observed the effects of increasing the percentage of biodiesel in the mixture on brake power, brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency, and the exhaust emission from the engine. The emission species included O2, CO, CO2, NOx, and SO2. Improved engine performance and reduced emissions from the engine were noticed with blended fuels with 10% and 20% distilled WCO biodiesel mixed with 90% and 80% mineral diesel by volume, respectively. The results of this study indicate that the distilled biodiesel blends with mineral diesel can be used as an alternative fuel to run diesel engines without changing the engine design, thereby providing an alternative energy resource with reduced costs for power generation by using engine fuel. The discharge of industrial liquid waste continues to cause more and more environmental problems. The current research aims at developing a durable and highly efficient filter screen for oil-water separation. In this paper, hydrophobic nano-SiO2 and phenolic resin were used as raw materials. Hydrophobic SiO2 particles were fixed on the surface of the coated filter screen by heating and curing the anchored particles. The surface morphology, element composition, surface roughness and water contact angle of the prepared super hydrophobic SiO2/phenolic resin-coated filter screen were analyzed and discussed by using SEM, EDS, AFM, OCA and other instruments. The results showed that the prepared filter screen contained Si, O, C elements, which proved that the resin coating film had adhered to the filter screen surface. When the aperture of the phenolic resin-coated filter screen was 400 meshes, the drainage angle reached a maximum value of 153.8° ± 0.8°. When two layers of hydrophobic SiO2 phenolic resin were coated on the screen, the surface of the filter screen had a sufficient nano-porous structure and high roughness. The tests showed that the minimum water contact angle of the filter screen exceeded 150°, which indicated excellent chemical resistance. Through the analysis of oil-water separation efficiency of isooctane, gasoline, n-hexane, dodecane, edible oil, dichloromethane and trichloromethane, it was concluded that the lowest separation efficiency for edible oil was 97.2%, and the highest separation efficiency for n-hexane was 99.4%. In this study, a homogenizer in conjunction with a two-stage process was utilized to facilitate biodiesel production from waste edible oil (WEO). This paper contributes to the improvement of the yield and the shortening of the reaction time for biodiesel synthesis. Sulfuric acid was used in the first stage which was the esterification of the free fatty acids (FFA) of the WEO; then the transesterification reaction of triglycerides took place in the second stage with an alkaline catalysis. The present investigation aimed to explore the parameters affecting the reactions, including homogenizer speed, alcohol/oil molar ratio, catalyst dosage, reaction temperature, and reaction time. Under the operating conditions of the first stage (the reaction temperature was 65 °C, the homogenizer speed was 8000 rpm, the methanol/oil molar ratio was 15:1, and the amount of sulfuric acid was 4 wt%), the acid value fell to below 2 mg KOH/g after 10 min. The best base-catalyzed conditions in the second stage were: homogenizer speed of 8000 rpm, NaOH catalyst concentration of 1 wt%, methanol/oil molar ratio of 9:1 (mol/mol), reaction temperature of 65 °C, and reaction time 10 min. Consequently, the conversion rate from WEO to biodiesel achieved 97% after only 20 min, in line with the EU EN14214 standard, which requires a biodiesel production rate of at least 96.5%. Most physicochemical and sensory properties of edible vegetable oils are not stable over time. One of the main causes of quality depletion of vegetable oils is oxidation, which influences sensory acceptability and nutritional value, and could even lead to toxic compounds. That negative influence affects international refined oil prices and the variety of its culinary applications. Modelling quality depletion of vegetable oils and establishing the shelf life, generally accepted as the time until rancidity becomes evident, already remains a challenge for the industry. Hence, this paper will show a promising chemofoodmetric methodology, as an easy and straightforward tool to estimate the current shelf-life of refined vegetable oils, based on a comprehensive characterisation of quality depletion-related changes over storage time under real market conditions. The methodology for building a multivariate kinetic ageing-based model is described, taking into account all time-related physicochemical parameters and chemometric processing tools. From a particular ageing state, multiparametric models are able to reliably infer the expected storage time for each vegetable oil so that it remains consistent with acceptability requirements. The results of the study pointed out the accuracy of multivariate shelf-life modelling with regard to univariate modelling. In this paper, we present a new microfluidic microwave sensor loaded with a star-slotted patch for detecting the quality of edible oil. The relative dielectric permittivity and the quality of edible oil will change after being heated at a high temperature. Therefore, the quality of edible oil can be detected by measuring the relative dielectric permittivity of edible oil. The sensor is used to determine the edible oil with different dielectric permittivity by measuring the resonance frequency offset of the input reflection coefficient, which operates at 2.68 GHz. This sensor is designed based on a resonant approach to provide the best sensing accuracy and is implemented using a substrate integrated waveguide structure combined with a pentagonal slot antenna operating at 2.3~2.9 GHz. Calcium alginate capsules encapsulating rejuvenator are a promising self-healing technology for asphalt pavement, but the effects of different healing agents on the self-healing performance of asphalt concrete has not been considered. In view of this, this paper aimed at exploring the effects of calcium alginate capsules containing different healing agents on the self-healing properties of asphalt concrete. Three types of capsules with sunflower oil, waste cooking oil and commercial rejuvenator were fabricated via the orifice-coagulation bath method and the interior structure, mechanical strength, thermal stability and oil content of the prepared capsules were characterized. The healing levels of asphalt mixtures with different capsules under different loading cycles and stress levels were evaluated. Furthermore, the saturates, aromatics, resins and asphaltenes (SARA) fractions and rheological property of extracted asphalt binder within test beams with different capsules after different loading conditions were assessed. The results indicated that all the three types of capsules meet the mechanical and thermal requirement of mixing and compaction of asphalt mixtures. The healing levels of test beams containing vegetable oil capsules were higher than that of waste cooking oil capsules and industrial rejuvenator capsules. The strength recovery ratio and fracture energy recovery ratio of test beams with vegetable oil capsules reached 82.8% and 96.6%, respectively, after 20,000 cycles of compressive loading at 1.4 MPa. The fracture energy recovery ratio of the waste cooking oil capsules also reached as high as 90%, indicating that waste cooking oil can be used as the healing agent of calcium alginate capsules to improve the self-healing property of asphalt mixture. Biofuels are becoming more important in the renewable energy sources mix. Liquid biofuels are products of agriculture. Bioethanol can be prepared from corn, beetroot and other plants. Biodiesel is mainly made from rapeseed. This paper presents information about biodiesel development in Poland, as well as some background information about its development in the European Union (EU). We analyzed the data about biofuels in the literature, and provide statistical data about liquid biofuel in Poland and other countries of the EU. The aim of the study is to assess the viability of liquid biofuel development in Poland. The base for biodiesel production in Poland and the EU is rapeseed. The production yields and sown area of rapeseed increased in Poland from 2005–2020. This was due to integration and European Union policies which aim to supply clean energy. The energy mix in Poland differs from that of the EU. Solid biofuels have made up the biggest share of renewable energy sources in Poland (73.4%) and the EU (40.1%). Poland has smaller share of wind energy, biogas, heat pump, water energy, solar anergy, municipal waste and geothermal energy in its renewable energy sources compared to the rest of the EU. Only with solid and liquid biofuels is the share of renewable energy sources larger in Poland compared to the EU averages. Poland has decreased its share of solid biofuels and water energy among its renewable energy sources, while other sources have increased. Poland is investing to increase its renewable energy sources. To analyze the opportunities for biodiesel production in Poland, we used the scenario method of analysis. We outlined three scenarios. The first is increasing the production of biodiesel by 3% each year for the next three years. The second is production remains unchanged, i.e., at the 2020 level. The last scenario is decreasing production by 3% each year. According to the first scenario, the total demand for rapeseed for energy and food purposes will be 375 thousand tons in 2025. Such a scenario is very likely to occur because of the growing demand for biodiesel and edible oil. [[5]] show the potential of solid-state and spin diffusion pulse sequences in food quality control using a time domain NMR spectrometer. In the past two decades, there have been remarkable changes in the way we analyze the physical, chemical, and sensory properties of fresh and processed food products, with the progressive replacement of traditional wet analytical methods (destructive, laborious, time-consuming, and requiring the use of hazardous chemicals) with new, fast, non-destructive physical methods where the analysis is performed in a single step, after validation, and without the use of chemical reagents.
