Vegetation degeneration has become a serious ecological problem for karst regions in the Anthropocene. According to the deficiency of long serial and high-resolution analysis of karst vegetation, this paper reconstructed the variation of vegetation landscape changes from 1987 to 2020 in a typical karst region of China. Using Landsat time series data, the dynamic changes and driving factors of natural karst vegetation were identified at the landscape scale. On the premise of considering the time-lag effect, the main climatic factors that influence vegetation growth were presented at the interannual timescale. Then, the approach of residual analysis was adopted to distinguish the dominant factors affecting vegetation growth. Results of trend analysis revealed that 21.5% of the forestland showed an overall significant decline in vegetation growth, while only 1.5% showed an increase in vegetation growth during the study period. Precipitation and radiation were the dominant meteorological factors influencing vegetation at the interannual timescale, as opposed to temperature. More than 70% of the natural vegetation growth was dominated by climatic factors. The area percentage of negative human impact has increased gradually since 2009 and reached 18.5% in 2020, indicating the currently serious situation of vegetation protection; fortunately, in recent years, human disturbances on vegetation have been mitigated in karst areas with the promotion of ecological conservation and restoration projects. The offshore China (OC) region is a significant sea area in the Western Pacific and many researchers have been interested in the distribution of sea surface temperature (SST) fronts in this area. In this study, the Cayula and Cornillon single image edge detection algorithm was used to detect SST fronts using the Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature data from 1982 to 2021. The results revealed that there are eighteen SST fronts in OC— three in the Bohai Sea, seven in the Yellow Sea, two in the East China Sea, five in the South China Sea, one in the Pacific Ocean east of Taiwan province, China—and among them a new front was detected in the Yellow Sea and named the Yellow Sea Ring Front. The frequency of most fronts showed a tendency of initially increasing and then decreasing from January to September, followed by a trend of growing steadily from October to December. The frequency of a few fronts showed a decreasing tendency from January to September and an increasing tendency from October to December. The frequency of most fronts is highest in winter and lowest in summer. In spring and autumn, the frequency of most fronts is lower than that in winter and higher than that in summer. The annual average frontal probability of five-ninths of the fronts showed an upward trend, and the annual average frontal probability value of one-third of the fronts showed a downward trend. The rest of the fronts showed a stable trend. The results of this paper also showed that the Liaodong Bay Front and the Bohai-Laizhou Bay Front did not form a complete front, as previously reported. As a major parameter in the energy balance of the ground surface, temperature represents the level of exchange of energy and moisture between the ground and air. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) has the permafrost region with the highest altitude and the largest area in low–middle latitude of the world. The variation in ground surface temperature has an impact on the existence and development of the permafrost. Therefore, the analysis of the ground surface temperature in the QTP is significant to reflect the energy exchange in permafrost regions. This paper collected solar radiation data and calculated the conversion coefficient from total solar radiation to long-wave radiation of the ground surface on different underlying surfaces. The ground surface temperature was inversely calculated and modified based on the reception of solar radiation on different underlying surfaces. A simplified calculation model of ground surface temperature was built to reflect the ground surface temperature on different underlying surfaces of the QTP. The calculation results were compared with MODIS and showed good fitness, providing a systematic and reliable method for calculating the ground surface temperature on the QTP. Accurate and error-free digital elevation model (DEM) data are a basic guarantee for the safe flight of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during surveys in the wild, especially in moun-tainous areas with large topographic undulations. Existing free and open-source DEM data gen-erally cover large areas, with relatively high spatial resolutions (~90, 30, and even 12.5 m), but they do not have the advantage of timeliness and cannot accurately reflect current and up-to-date topographical information in the survey area. UAV pre-scanning missions can provide highly accurate and recent terrain data as a reference for UAV route planning and ensure security for subsequent aerial survey missions; however, they are time consuming. In addition, being limited to the electric charge of the UAV, pre-scanning increases the human, financial, and time consumption of field missions, and it is not applicable for field aerial survey missions in reality, unless otherwise specified, especially in harsh environments. In this paper, we used interferometric synthetic aper-ture radar (InSAR) technology to process Sentinel-1a data to obtain the DEMs of the survey area, which were used for route planning, and other free and open-source DEMs were also used for flightline plans. The digital surface models (DSMs) were obtained from the structure of the UAV pre-scan mission images, applying structure for motion (SfM) technology as the elevation reference. Comparing the errors between the InSAR-derived DEMs and the four open-source DEMs based on the reference DSM to analyze the practicability of flight route planning, the results showed that among the four DEMs, the SRTM DEM with a spatial resolution of 30 m performed best, which was considered as the first reference for UAV route plans when the survey area in complex mountainous regions is covered with a poor or inoperative network. The InSAR-derived DEMs from the Sentinel-1 images have great potential value for UAV flight planning, with a large perpendicular baseline and short temporal baseline. This work quantitatively analyzed the errors among the different DEMs and provided a discussion regarding UAV flightline plans based on external DEMs. This can not only effectively reduce the manpower, materials, and time consumption of field operations, improving the efficiency of UAV survey tasks, but it also broadens the use of InSAR technology. Furthermore, with the launch of high-resolution SAR satellites, InSAR-derived DEMs with high spatial and temporal resolutions provide an optimistic and credible strategy for UAV route planning with small errors. The Chinese Chang'E-5 probe landed in the Mons Rümker of Oceanus Procellarum on the near side of the Moon. The lunar regolith penetrating radar (LRPR) carried by the Chang'E-5 probe allows for the determination of in situ lunar regolith dielectric properties, which are probably related to the age and chemical composition of the regolith. In this paper, we analyze the Chang'E-5 LRPR data with the frequency shift method to estimate the loss tangent of the lunar regolith within a depth of ∼2.8 m. The loss tangent of the Chang'E-5 landing site is constrained to be 0.0148 ± 0.0016, which is substantially higher than that of the typical lunar regolith. The high loss tangent is found to be characteristic of the young basalt age (∼2.0 Ga) and high TiO 2 +FeO content (28.21 ± 1.57%) of the Chang'E-5 landing site. Integrated analysis of results from Chang'E-3, Chang'E-4, and Chang'E-5 show that the younger is the geologic age of the mare unit, the greater is the loss tangent of the lunar regolith, and the weaker is the radar electromagnetic signal penetrating ability. Drought is one of the most common natural threats to agricultural production worldwide. Few studies have studied the effects of agricultural practices on drought mitigation at a regional scale over a long period. This paper analyzes the spatiotemporal characteristics in the agricultural drought-affected area change index (ADAC), which was developed to assess the drought mitigation. The linear regression method was used to investigate the impact factors on the change of ADAC in the three main winter wheat provinces of northern China. The results showed that the average ADAC during the main growing season in the study area was approximately −61.5% over the past 38 years, which indicated a great decrease of the agricultural drought-affected area. The significant decreasing trends of ADAC values across the study area during 1981–2000 could be explained by the area percentage equipped for irrigation (APEI) by 49.2–89.7%. There was a lack of pronounced change trends of ADAC during 2001–2018, implying that the positive effects of irrigation infrastructure in the plain area might reach a plateau under the constraints of available water resources, and other agricultural practices need to be investigated in the future. Dynamic monitoring of building environments is essential for observing rural land changes and socio-economic development, especially in agricultural countries, such as China. Rapid and accurate building extraction and floor area estimation at the village level are vital for the overall planning of rural development and intensive land use and the "beautiful countryside" construction policy in China. Traditional in situ field surveys are an effective way to collect building information but are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Moreover, rural buildings are usually covered by vegetation and trees, leading to incomplete boundaries. This paper proposes a comprehensive method to perform village-level homestead area estimation by combining unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry and deep learning technology. First, to tackle the problem of complex surface feature scenes in remote sensing images, we proposed a novel Efficient Deep-wise Spatial Attention Network (EDSANet), which uses dual attention extraction and attention feature refinement to aggregate multi-level semantics and enhance the accuracy of building extraction, especially for high-spatial-resolution imagery. Qualitative and quantitative experiments were conducted with the newly built dataset (named the rural Weinan building dataset) with different deep learning networks to examine the performance of the EDSANet model in the task of rural building extraction. Then, the number of floors of each building was estimated using the normalized digital surface model (nDSM) generated from UAV oblique photogrammetry. The floor area of the entire village was rapidly calculated by multiplying the area of each building in the village by the number of floors. The case study was conducted in Helan village, Shannxi province, China. The results show that the overall accuracy of the building extraction from UAV images with the EDSANet model was 0.939 and that the precision reached 0.949. The buildings in Helan village primarily have two stories, and their total floor area is 3.1 × 105 m2. The field survey results verified that the accuracy of the nDSM model was 0.94; the RMSE was 0.243. The proposed workflow and experimental results highlight the potential of UAV oblique photogrammetry and deep learning for rapid and efficient village-level building extraction and floor area estimation in China, as well as worldwide. Different radiometer sensors have different frequencies, spatial resolutions, and time resolutions, which lead to inconsistencies in ice drift products retrieved by radiometer sensors. Based on the continuous maximum cross-correlation method, in this paper, we used China's FY-3 and HY-2 satellite radiometer data to generate sea ice drift products; we further evaluated the consistency between them and sea ice drift products retrieved from AMSR2 and SSMIS satellite radiometer data, which could help in future retrieval accuracies of more radiometer sea ice drift products. The results show that ice drift products with good reliability can be obtained by retrievals using 37 and 89 GHz channels of FY-3 and HY-2 radiometer bright temperature data. Compared with the buoy data, the root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the 37 GHz HY-2 sea ice drift product (at an interval of 6 days) were 1.40 cm/s and 7.31° for speed and direction, respectively, and the relative errors (REs) were 5.78% and 6.44%, respectively. The RMSEs of the 37 GHz FY-3 sea ice drift product were 0.77 cm/s and 6.49° for speed and direction, respectively, and the REs were 4.38% and 9.23%, respectively. Gully erosion is a major threat to ecosystems, potentially leading to desertification, land degradation, and crop loss. Developing viable gully erosion prevention and remediation strategies requires regular monitoring of the gullies. Nevertheless, it is highly challenging to automatically access the monitoring results of the gullies from the latest monitoring data by training historical data acquired by different sensors at different times. To this end, this paper presents a novel semi-supervised semantic segmentation with boundary-guided pseudo-label generation strategy and adaptive loss function method. This method takes full advantage of the historical data with labels and the latest monitoring data without labels to obtain the latest monitoring results of the gullies. The boundary-guided pseudo-label generation strategy (BPGS), guided by the inherent boundary maps of real geographic objects, fuses multiple evidence data to generate reliable pseudo-labels. Additionally, we propose an adaptive loss function based on centroid similarity (CSIM) to further alleviate the impact of pseudo-label noise. To verify the proposed method, two datasets for gully erosion monitoring are constructed according to the satellite data acquired in northeastern China. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is more appropriate for automatic gully erosion monitoring than four state-of-the-art methods, including supervised methods and semi-supervised methods. Forest logging detection is important for sustainable forest management. The traditional optical satellite images with visible and near-infrared bands showed the ability to identify intensive timber logging. However, less intensive logging is still difficult to detect with coarse spatial resolution such as Landsat or high spatial resolution in fewer spectral bands. Although more high-resolution remote sensing images containing richer spectral bands can be easily obtained nowadays, the questions of whether they facilitate the detection of logging patterns and which spectral bands are more effective in detecting logging patterns, especially in selective logging, remain unresolved. Therefore, this paper aims to evaluate the combinations of visible, near-infrared, red-edge, and short-wave infrared bands in detecting three different logging intensity patterns, including unlogged (control check, CK), selective logging (SL), and clear-cutting (CC), in north subtropical plantation forests with the random forest algorithm using Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery. This study aims to explore the recognition performance of different combinations of spectral bands (visual (VIS) and near-infrared bands (NIR), VIS, NIR combined with red-edge, VIS, NIR combined with short-wave infrared bands (SWIR), and full-spectrum bands combined with VIS, NIR, red edge and SWIR) and to determine the best spectral variables to be used for identifying logging patterns, especially in SL. The study was conducted in Taizishan in Hubei province, China. A total of 213 subcompartments of different logging patterns were collected and the random forest algorithm was used to classify logging patterns. The results showed that full-spectrum bands which contain the red-edge and short-wave infrared bands improve the ability of conventional optical satellites to monitor forest logging patterns and can achieve an overall accuracy of 85%, especially for SL which can achieve 79% and 64% for precision and recall accuracy, respectively. The red-edge band (698–713 nm, B5 in Sentinel-2), short-wave infrared band (2100–2280 nm, B12 in Sentinel-2), and associated vegetation indices (NBR, NDre2, and NDre1) enhance the sensitivity of the spectral information to logging patterns, especially for the SL pattern, and the precision and recall accuracy can improve by 10% and 6%, respectively. Meanwhile, both clear-cutting and unlogged patterns could be well-classified whether adding a red-edge or SWIR band or both in VIS and NIR bands; the best precision and recall accuracies for clear-cutting were enhanced to 97%, 95% and 81%, 91% for unlogged, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the optical images have the potential ability to detect logging patterns especially for the clear-cutting and unlogged patterns, and the selective logging detection accuracy can be improved by adding red-edge and short-wave infrared spectral bands. Using deep learning-based object detection algorithms for landslide hazards detection is very popular and effective. However, most existing algorithms are designed for landslides in a specific geographical range. This paper constructs a set of landslide detection models YOLOX-Pro, based on the improved YOLOX (You Only Look Once) target detection model to address the poor detection of complex mixed landslides. Wherein the VariFocal is used to replace the binary cross entropy in the original classification loss function to solve the uneven distribution of landslide samples and improve the detection recall; the coordinate attention (CA) mechanism is added to enhance the detection accuracy. Firstly, 1200 historical landslide optical remote sensing images in thirty-eight areas of China were extracted from Google Earth to create a mixed sample set for landslide detection. Next, the three attention mechanisms were compared to form the YOLOX-Pro model. Then, we tested the performance of YOLOX-Pro by comparing it with four models: YOLOX, YOLOv5, Faster R-CNN, and Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD). The results show that the YOLOX-Pro(m) has significantly improved the detection accuracy of complex and small landslides than the other models, with an average precision (AP0.75) of 51.5%, APsmall of 36.50%, and ARsmall of 49.50%. In addition, optical remote sensing images of a 12.32 km 2 group-occurring landslides area located in Mibei village, Longchuan County, Guangdong, China, and 750 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) images collected from the Internet were also used for landslide detection. The research results proved that the proposed method has strong generalization and good detection performance for many types of landslides, which provide a technical reference for the broad application of landslide detection using UAV. In recent years, extreme weather events caused by global climate change have occurred frequently, intensifying the frequency of flood disasters. For flood hazard analysis, high-quality data and a reasonable weight assignment of the relevant factors are critical. This study conducts four rainfall fusion methods, to fuse the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) 3B42 and the observations in Dazhou City, China. Then, the random forest was applied to obtain the weights of various factors to facilitate a comprehensive flood hazard analysis under four rainfall durations. The results show that (1) the linear regression performs best out of the four fusion methods, with a correlation coefficient of 0.56; (2) the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is the most impact factor with a weight of more than 0.2; and (3) the proposed flood analysis system performs well, as 70% of historical flood points are distributed in high and sub-high hazard areas and more than 93% of historical flood points are distributed in medium hazard areas. This study identified the flood hazard grade and distribution in Dazhou City, which could provide a valuable methodology to contribute to flood hazard analysis and disaster management with satellite rainfall. Raindrop size distribution (DSD) can be used to improve the accuracy of radar quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) and further understand the microphysical process of precipitation; however, its spatio-temporal characteristics vary with different climates, rain types, and geographical locations. Due to the lack of observations, the DSD characteristics in the Beibu Gulf, especially at the rainfall center of Guangxi in South China, is poorly understood. In this paper, these regional DSD characteristics were analyzed during the warm season with an upgraded version of the OTT Particle Size Velocity (Parsivel) (OTT2) disdrometer. The DSD datasets from June to October 2020 and March to May 2021 were grouped into convective and stratiform precipitation by rain rate (R). The rainfall parameters were calculated from DSDs to further understand the rain characteristics. The results showed that: (1) the regional DSDs feature the lowest concentration of largest-sized drops when compared with the statistical results for other areas such as Zhuhai in South China, Nanjing in East China, Hubei province in Central China and Beijing in North China; (2) the raindrop spectra have an excellent fit with the three-parameter gamma distribution, particularly in regard to the medium-size raindrops; (3) the μ – Λ relation is closer to the coastal regions than the inland area of South China; (4) the localized Z−R relations differ greatly for convective rainfall (Z = 202.542 R1.553) and stratiform rainfall (Z = 328.793 R1.363). This study is the first study on DSDs in the Beibu Gulf region. The above findings will provide a better understanding of the microphysical nature of surface precipitation for different rain types along the Beibu Gulf in southern China, which may improve precipitation retrievals from remote sensing observations. Because the penetration depth of electromagnetic waves in forests is large in the longer wavelength band, most traditional forest height estimation methods are carried out using polarimetric interferometry synthetic aperture radar (PolInSAR) data of the L or P band, and the estimation method is a three-stage method based on the random volume over ground (RVoG) model. For X-band electromagnetic waves, the penetration depth of radar waves in forests is limited, so the traditional forest height estimation method is no longer applicable. In view of the above problems, in this paper we propose a new forest height estimation strategy for airborne X-band PolInSAR data. Firstly, the sub-view interferometric SAR pairs obtained via frequency segmentation (FS) in the Doppler domain are used to extend the polarimetric interferometry coherence coefficient (PolInCC) range of the original SAR image under different polarization states, so as to obtain the accurate ground phase. For the determination of the effective volume coherence coefficient (VCC), part of the fitting line of the extended-range PolInCC distribution that is intercepted by the fixed extinction coherence coefficient curve (FECCC) of the fixed range is averaged to obtain the accurate effective VCC. Finally, the high-precision forest canopy height in the X-band is estimated using the effective VCC with the ground phase removed in the look-up table (LUT). The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified using airborne-measured data obtained in Shaanxi Province, China. The comparison was carried out using different strategies, in which we substituted one step of the process with the conventional method. The results indicated that our new strategy could reduce the root mean square error (RMSE) of the predicted canopy height vastly to 1.02 m, with a lower estimation height error of 12.86%. Soil salinization has become one of the major environmental problems threatening food security. The identification and knowledge of the spatial distributions of soil salinization are key in addressing this problem. This study assumes that a good saline land identification effect can be obtained with the help of deep learning methods. Therefore, this study used the OLI sensor data from the Landsat-8, based on the U2-Network, and proposes a method to extract saline land from remote sensing images. The study also adds different salinity indices (SI, SI1, and SI2) to explore its impact on classification accuracy. Through our method, accurate saline soil distribution information were obtained, and several verification indicators (the Intersection-over-Union (IoU), recall, precision, and F1-score) were all measured above 0.8. In addition, compared with the multi-spectral training results, the classification accuracy increased after adding a specific salinity index, and most of the accuracy indices increased by about 2% (the IoU increased by 3.70%, recall increased by 1.50%, precision increased by 2.81%, and F1-score increased by 2.13%). In addition, we also included a case study based on our methodology to analyze the distribution characteristics and changes of saline soil in the Zhenlai area of Northeast China from 2016 to 2020. We found that the area of saline land in the Zhenlai area has reduced, which shows that the extraction method proposed in this study is feasible. Overall, this paper indicates that deep learning-based methods can efficiently extract the salinity of soil and enhance the mapping of its spatial distribution. The study has the broad impact of supplementing satellite imagery for salinity modeling and helping to guide agricultural land management practices for northeastern China and other salinized regions. The parameters of hydrological models should be determined before applying those models to estimate or predict hydrological processes. The Xin'anjiang (XAJ) hydrological model is widely used throughout China. Since the prediction in ungauged basins (PUB) era, the regionalization of the XAJ model parameters has been a subject of intense focus; nevertheless, while many efforts have targeted parameters related to runoff yield using in-site data sets, classic regression has predominantly been applied. In this paper, we employed remotely sensed underlying surface data and a machine learning approach to establish models for estimating the runoff routing parameter, namely, CS, of the XAJ model. The study was conducted on 114 catchments from the Catchment Attributes and MEteorology for Large-sample Studies (CAMELS) data set, and the relationships between CS and various underlying surface characteristics were explored by a gradient-boosted regression tree (GBRT). The results showed that the drainage density, stream source density and area of the catchment were the three major factors with the most significant impact on CS. The best correlation coefficient (r), root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) between the GBRT-estimated and calibrated CS were 0.96, 0.06 and 0.04, respectively, verifying the good performance of GBRT in estimating CS. Although bias was noted between the GBRT-estimated and calibrated CS, runoff simulations using the GBRT-estimated CS could still achieve results comparable to those using the calibrated CS. Further validations based on two catchments in China confirmed the overall robustness and accuracy of simulating runoff processes using the GBRT-estimated CS. Our results confirm the following hypotheses: (1) with the help of large sample of catchments and associated remote sensing data, the ML-based approach can capture the nonstationary and nonlinear relationships between CS and the underlying surface characteristics and (2) CS estimated by ML from large samples has a robustness that can guarantee the overall performance of the XAJ mode. The Loess Plateau is an ecologically fragile area in China; furthermore, loess landslides are typical forms of geological disasters, which severely limit the sustainable development of the local societies and the economy. Studying the automatic detection of landslides can facilitate disaster prevention and mitigation in the Loess Plateau, and help realize the climate action goal (SDG 13) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper takes typical loess areas in China as the research object, and establishes a historical loess landslide sample database based on Google Earth (GEE) image data, with a total of 1451 loess landslides. The automatic detection of loess landslides is implemented by improving the You Only Look Once X (YOLOX) algorithm. The results show that the average accuracy of landslide detection in this method is 95.43%, and the accuracy rate is 96.32%, which effectively combines the earth's big data to realize the automatic detection of loess landslides. The research results provide technical support for the promotion of disaster prevention and mitigation in China's loess regions, the realization of sustainable development goals, and the improvement of natural disaster prevention–resistance–reduction systems. Previous wildfire risk assessments have problems such as subjectivity of weight allocation and the linearization of statistical models, resulting in generally low robustness and low generalization ability of fire risk assessment models. Therefore, in this paper, we explored the potential of integration machine learning algorithms to build wildfire risk assessment models. Based on analyzing fire data's spatial and temporal distribution, we selected 10 triggering factors of topography, meteorology, vegetation, and human activities, using frequency ratio (FR) to provide uniform data representation of triggering factors. Next, we used the Bayesian optimization (BO) algorithm to perform hyperparametric optimization solutions for various machine learning models: support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). Finally, we constructed an integration machine learning algorithm to acquire a fire risk grading map and the importance evaluation corresponding to each triggering factor. For validation purposes, we selected Liangshan Prefecture in Sichuan Province as the specific study area and obtained MCD64A1 burned area product to extract the extent of burned areas in Liangshan Prefecture from 2011 to 2020. The accuracy, kappa coefficient, and area under curve (AUC) were then applied to assess the predictive power and consistency of the fire risk classification maps. The experimental analysis showed that among the three models, FR-BO-XGBoost had the best performance in wildfire risk assessment in the Liangshan region (AUC = 0.887), followed by FR-BO-RF (AUC = 0.876) and FR-BO-SVM (AUC = 0.820). The feature importance result indicated that the study area's most significant effects on wildfires were precipitation, NDVI, land cover, and maximum temperature. The proposed method avoided the subjective weighting and model linearization problems. Compared with the previous methods, it automatically acquired the importance of the triggering factors to the wildfire, which had certain advantages in wildfire risk assessment, and was worthy of further promotion. Precise point positioning can provide accurate coordinates to users without reference stations, and the high-precision real-time clock offset product is necessary for real-time precise point positioning application. As an integral part of the third generation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, Precision Point Positioning Service provides dual systems (BDS-3 and GPS) real-time PPP services with centimeter- and decimeter-level accuracy for static and kinematic positioning users around China, respectively. However, there exist inconsistent biases in the clock offset of Precision Point Positioning Service, which will negatively affect the positioning and timing performance of the service. By comparing with the post-processing clock offset, this paper verifies that the broadcast clock offset has smaller and more stable biases in the long term and proposes a regional clock offset estimation strategy using broadcast clock offset for a priori constraint. The results show that the new algorithm can effectively reduce the bias in PPP-B2b clock offset. The new clock offset product could improve convergence speed by 25% and 10% in the horizontal and vertical directions. For positioning accuracy, the improvement is 22% and 17%. As one of the most prevailing geodetic tools, the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technique can accurately obtain co-seismic displacements, but is limited to the one-dimensional line-of-sight (LOS) measurement. It is therefore difficult to completely reveal the real three-dimensional (3D) surface displacements with InSAR. By employing azimuth displacement observations from pixel offset tracking (POT) and multiple aperture InSAR (MAI) techniques, 3D displacements of large-magnitude earthquakes can be obtained by integrating the ascending and descending data. However, this method cannot be used to accurately realize the 3D surface displacement measurements of small-magnitude earthquakes due to the low accuracies of the POT/MAI-derived azimuth displacement measurements. In this paper, an alternative method is proposed to calculate co-seismic 3D displacements from ascending and descending InSAR-LOS observations with the dislocation model-based displacement direction constraint. The main contribution lies in the two virtual observation equations that are obtained from the dislocation model-based forward-modeling 3D displacements, which are then combined with the ascending/descending InSAR observations to calculate the 3D displacements. The basis of the two virtual observation equations is that the directions of the 3D displacement vectors are very similar for real and model-based 3D displacements. In addition, the weighted least squares (WLS) method is employed to solve the final 3D displacements, which aims to consider and balance the possible errors in the InSAR observations as well as the dislocation model-based displacement direction constraint. A simulation experiment demonstrates that the proposed method can achieve more accurate 3D displacements compared with the existing methods. The co-seismic 3D displacements of the 2020 Nima earthquake are then accurately obtained by the proposed method. The results show that co-seismic displacements are dominated by the vertical displacement, the magnitude of the horizontal displacement is relatively small, and the overall displacement pattern fits well with the tensile rupture. Surface air temperature is a critical element in the surface–atmosphere interaction, energy exchange, and water cycle. Multi-source fusion reanalysis products (hereafter referred to as reanalysis) have spatiotemporal continuity and broad applicability that can provide key data support for various studies such as glacier melting, soil freeze-thaw and desertification, ecosystem, and climate change in the alpine region of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP). Surface air temperature observations collected at 17 weather stations in the High-cold region Observation and Research Network for Land Surface Process and Environment of China (HORN) over the period of 2017–2018 are implemented to evaluate the advanced and widely used surface air temperature reanalysis datasets, which include the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Fifth Generation Land Surface Reanalysis (ERA5L), the U.S. Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), and China Meteorological Administration Land Data Assimilation System (CLDAS). Results are as follows: (1) Evaluation results of temporal changes and spatial distribution characteristics indicate that the three reanalysis datasets are consistent with in-situ observations in the alpine region of the QTP. CLDAS is more consistent with observations and can better describe details of temperature distribution and variation than ERA5L and GLDAS. (2) For the evaluation period, CLDAS is 0.53 °C higher than the in-situ observation, while ERA5L and GLDAS are lower than the in-situ observation by −3.45 °C and −1.40 °C, respectively. (3) The accuracy of CLDAS is better than ERA5L and GLDAS under different elevations and land covers. We resampled three reanalysis datasets with a spatial resolution of 0.25° and used the two most common interpolation methods to analyze the impact of spatial resolution and different interpolation methods on the evaluation results. We found that the impact is small. In summary, the three reanalysis datasets all have certain applicability in the alpine region of the QTP, and the accuracy of CLDAS is significantly higher than ERA5L and GLDAS. A waterlogging assessment framework based on the stormwater management model (SWMM), considering the microtopography, is proposed (taking into account the complexity of the underlying surface, which contains various micro-surface features within the Chinese ancient city site). We used the ancient city site of PuZhou as the study case and the framework is detailed in this paper. First, the land cover was classified by combining the analysis of UAVs and field surveys; subsequently, a revised sub-catchment division method considering the land cover was proposed to obtain more accurate and reliable sub-catchments; thirdly, the parameters used in SWMM were determined by analyzing the micro-surface features; finally, the inundation area was calculated based on the SWMM-GIS. To verify the advantage of our proposed framework, two comparative experiments where the land cover and the micro-surface features were not considered in the stages of the sub-catchment division and parameter estimations were carried out. The simulated inundation area derived from our proposed framework with the return periods of 10a., 50a., 100a., and 1000a. were (separately) 22,500 m2, 29,500 m2, 33,600 m2, and 44,200 m2, which are more in line with the actual situation compared with the two designed comparative experiments. A forest fire susceptibility map generated with the fire susceptibility model is the basis of fire prevention resource allocation. A more reliable susceptibility map helps improve the effectiveness of resource allocation. Thus, further improving the prediction accuracy is always the goal of fire susceptibility modeling. This paper developed a forest fire susceptibility model based on an ensemble learning method, namely light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), to produce an accurate fire susceptibility map. In the modeling, a subtropical national forest park in the Jiangsu province of China was used as the case study area. We collected and selected eight variables from the fire occurrence driving factors for modeling based on correlation analysis. These variables are from topographic factors, climatic factors, human activity factors, and vegetation factors. For comparative analysis, another two popular modeling methods, namely logistic regression (LR) and random forest (RF) were also applied to construct the fire susceptibility models. The results show that temperature was the main driving factor of fire in the area. In the produced fire susceptibility map, the extremely high and high susceptibility areas that were classified by LR, RF, and LightGBM were 5.82%, 18.61%, and 19%, respectively. The F1-score of the LightGBM model is higher than the LR and RF models. The accuracy of the model of LightGBM, RF, and LR is 88.8%, 84.8%, and 82.6%, respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) of them is 0.935, 0.918, and 0.868, respectively. The introduced ensemble learning method shows better ability on performance evaluation metrics. With the rapid development of interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) measurement technology, its measurement accuracy requirements are increasing. Atmospheric delay errors must be corrected, especially in the case of crustal deformation monitoring, the 20% variation of tropospheric water vapor among InSAR pairs generally produces range from 10 cm to 14 cm deformation errors. Such errors can be of the same magnitude as the annual changes in crustal deformation, or even greater, masking crustal deformation information and seriously affecting the results of crustal deformation monitoring. Therefore, in order to obtain a more accurate InSAR atmospheric delay correction model, this paper calculated and integrated atmospheric delays that were estimated by different sources, including the 37 pressure levels of the fifth generation of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)) numerical weather prediction model, ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurement data from the crustal movement observation network of China, based on the variance component estimation (VCE) weighting method. The results showed that the integrated model, based on the VCE method, is better than the generic atmospheric correction online service (GACOS) model for InSAR measuring of crustal deformation. The precision in monitoring crustal deformations was improved by approximately 5 mm, the correlation coefficient of atmospheric delay errors and crustal deformations improved from 0.287 to 0.347, and accuracy improved by approximately 25%. However, the improvement in accuracy was limited because of system error decoherence that was induced by atmospheric noise caused by abundant vegetation or snow cover. Therefore, in order to achieve more accurate results, we recommend the adoption of the multi-source integrated atmospheric delay correction model, based on the VCE method, for InSAR high-precision measuring of crustal deformation and seismic activities. As one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world, China faces extremely serious earthquake threats, especially for those heavily populated urban areas located near large fault zones. To improve the ability to prevent and minimize earthquake disaster risks, and to reduce earthquake disaster losses, China is currently building a nationwide earthquake early warning system (EEWS) with the largest seismic network in the world. In this paper, we present the newest progress of this project through describing the overall architecture of the national EEWS and evaluating the system performance during the 2022 Lushan M6.1 earthquake. The accuracy of the source characterization for the Lushan earthquake is discussed by comparing the continually estimated location and magnitude with the catalogs obtained from the China Earthquake Networks Center. For this earthquake, the EEWS generated a total of five alerts, and an initial alert was created 5.7 s after its occurrence, with excellent epicentral location and origin time estimation. The final alert was issued 16.5 s after origin time with a magnitude estimate of M6.1, the same as the catalog value. However, from the point view of alerting performance, the radius of the real blind zone without warning time was about 30 km and much larger than the theoretical result, mainly caused by the releasing system not considering the epicenter distance of each terminal when issuing the alerts. Although the earthquake exposed some limitations that need to be addressed in future upgrades, the results showed that most aspects of the EEWS presented a robust performance, with continuous, reliable event detections and early-warning information releasing. The geometric registration of mountainous remote sensing images is always a challenging project, as terrain fluctuations increase the complexity. Deep learning, with its superior computing power and data-driven nature, promises to solve this problem. However, the lack of an appropriate dataset limits the development of deep learning technology for mountainous remote sensing image registration, which it still an unsolved problem in photogrammetry and remote sensing. To remedy this problem, this paper presents a manually constructed imagery dataset of mountainous regions, called the MID (mountainous imagery dataset). To create the MID, we use 38 images from the Gaofen-2 satellite developed by China and generated 4093 pairs of reference and sensed image patches, making this the first real mountainous dataset to our knowledge. Simultaneously, we propose a fully unsupervised, convolutional-network-based iterative registration scheme for the MID. First, the large and global deformation of the reference and sensed images is reduced using an affine registration module, generating the coarse alignment. Then, the local and varied distortions are learned and eliminated progressively using a hybrid dilated convolution (HDC)-based encoder–decoder module with multistep iterations, achieving fine registration results. The HDC aims to increase the receptive field without blocking the artifacts, allowing for the continuous characteristics of the mountainous images of a local region to be represented. We provide a performance analysis of some typical registration algorithms and the developed approach for the MID. The proposed scheme gives the highest registration precision, achieving the subpixel alignment of mountainous remote sensing images. Additionally, the experimental results demonstrate the usability of the MID, which can lay a foundation for the development of deep learning technology in large mountainous remote sensing image registration tasks. Soil temperature is an important physical variable that characterises geothermal conditions and influences geophysical, biological and chemical processes in the earth sciences. Soil temperature is not only affected by climatic and geographical factors; it is also modulated by local factors such as snow cover and vegetation. This paper investigates the relationship between snow cover and vegetation and soil temperature with the help of two classical remote sensing indicators, the Snow Cover Days (SCD) based Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)-based Global Inventory Modelling and Mapping Studies, to analyse the influence of local factors on soil temperature in the Three River Source Region (TRSR). Combing multi-layer geothermal observations from 23 stations in the TRSR with meteorological dataset, soil properties datasets, snow cover and vegetation indices, a non-linear model, the Random Forest model, is used to establish a multi-layer soil temperature dataset to analyse the influence of surface cover factors in each depth. The results showed that the annual SCD had a decreasing trend during 1982–2015 and was negatively correlated with the annual mean soil temperature; the annual NDVI had no significant trend, but it was positively correlated with the annual mean soil temperature. Regionally, there was a significant decrease in SCD in the mountainous areas bordering the source areas of the three rivers, and there was a trend of increasing NDVI in the northwest and decreasing vegetation in the southwest in the TRSR. The stronger the correlation with soil temperature in areas with a larger SCD, the more the snow has a cooling effect on the shallower soil temperatures due to the high albedo of the accumulated snow and the repeated melting and heat absorption of the snow in the area. The snow has an insulating effect on the 40 cm soil layer by impeding the cooling effect of the atmosphere in winter. In sparsely vegetated areas, vegetation lowers ground albedo and warms the soil, but in July and August, in areas with more vegetation, NDVI is negatively correlated with soil temperature, with heavy vegetation intercepting summer radiant energy and having a cooling effect on the soil. As an important part of the Earth's environmental system, sandy soils are particularly sensitive to changes in the climatic environment. As one of the four major desert regions in China, the MuUs desert has transformed from a desert to an oasis after more than half a century of ecological management. In this paper, we analyzed the spatial and temporal patterns of surface albedo, evapotranspiration, and fraction vegetation cover in the MuUs desert based on the Global Land Surface Satellite (GLASS) product with high spatial and temporal resolution and assessed the relationships between their variability and snow cover, air temperature, and precipitation. It is of great significance to understand the effect of desertification control and climate change after the conversion of land surface types in the MuUs region. The results show that the desertification control in the MuUs area has achieved remarkable results since 1982. The fraction vegetation coverage of the MuUs desert showed a significant increasing trend, with an interannual change rate of 1.32% each decade−1. The surface albedo of MuUs desert decreased significantly. Affected by vegetation and snow cover, it was lower in summer and higher in winter. The evapotranspiration showed a significant upward trend, higher in summer and lower in winter, which is significantly correlated with the changes in surface albedo, air temperature, and vegetation. In addition, the local-scale biophysical effects caused by vegetation change have influenced the climate of the MuUs region, manifested as the increase in precipitation and air temperature. It is difficult to detect bridges in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images due to the inherent speckle noise of SAR images, the interference generated by strong coastal scatterers, and the diversity of bridge and coastal terrain morphologies. In this paper, we present a two-step bridge detection method for polarimetric SAR imagery, in which the probability graph model of a Markov tree is used to build the water network, and bridges are detected by traversing the graph of the water network to determine all adjacent water branch pairs. In the step of the water network construction, candidate water branches are first extracted by using a region-based level set segmentation method. The water network is then built globally as a tree by connecting the extracted water branches based on the probabilistic graph model of a Markov tree, in which a node denotes a single branch and an edge denotes the connection of two adjacent branches. In the step of the bridge detection, all adjacent water branch pairs related to bridges are searched by traversing the constructed tree. Each bridge is finally detected by merging the two contours of the corresponding branch pair. Three polarimetric SAR data acquired by RADARSAT-2 covering Singapore and Lingshui, China, and by TerraSAR-X covering Singapore, are used for testing. The experimental results show that the detection rate, the false alarm rate, and the intersection over union (IoU) between the recognized bridge body and the ground truth are all improved by using the proposed method, compared to the method that constructs a water network based on water branches merging by contour distance. The mountainous area of southwest China is characterized by significant topography and complex geological conditions, which pose great challenges to the airport's site selection, construction, and safe operation. Suining Anju Airport, one of the key projects under construction in southwest China, is essential in alleviating and dredging the air passenger flow in Sichuan Province. Because the overlying quaternary strata's physical and mechanical properties, thickness, and distribution range are fairly different in the longitudinal and transverse directions, the Anju Airport's foundation in the hilly area has typical inhomogeneity. Large-scale excavation and filling pose a challenge to the ground stability of the airport. To comprehensively monitor Anju Airport's uneven ground subsidence during the construction period, this paper selected SAR image data collected by the Sentinel-1A satellite from May 2018 to June 2021 to extract time-series ground subsidence measurements based on the SBAS-InSAR method. Furthermore, based on the simulation of roadbed filling in the airport's parallel slide fill area, the dynamic evolution analysis of soil stress field and internal subsidence caused by roadbed filling activities was carried out to further reveal the occurrence mechanism of ground subsidence. The monitoring results show that the subsidence centers of Anju Airport are mainly distributed in the filling areas, and the average annual subsidence is −20~−75 mm/yr from May 2018 to June 2021. Comparative analysis with in situ data indicates that the RMSE of InSAR monitoring results was ±6.12 mm. The numerical simulation shows that the subsidence of the airport parallel slide is mainly caused by a load of subgrade filling body and the compression of its weight. Snail intermediate host monitoring and control are essential for interrupting the parasitic disease schistosomiasis. Identifying large-scale high-risk areas of snail spread after floods has been greatly facilitated by remote sensing imagery. However, previous studies have usually assumed that all inundation areas carry snails and may have overestimated snail spread areas. Furthermore, these studies only used a single environmental factor to estimate the snail survival risk probability, failing to analyze multiple variables, to accurately distinguish the snail survival risk in the snail spread areas. This paper proposes a systematic framework for early monitoring of snail diffusion to accurately map snail spread areas from remote sensing imagery and enhance snail survival risk probability estimation based on the snail spread map. In particular, the flooded areas are extracted using the Sentinel-1 Dual-Polarized Water Index based on synthetic aperture radar images to map all-weather flooding areas. These flood maps are used to extract snail spread areas, based on the assumption that only inundation areas that spatially interacted with (i.e., are close to) the previous snail distribution regions before flooding are identified as snail spread areas, in order to reduce the misclassification in snail spread area identification. A multiple logistic regression model is built to analyze how various types of snail-related environmental factors, including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), wetness, river and channel density, and landscape fractal dimension impact snail survival, and estimate its risk probabilities in snail spread area. An experiment was conducted in Jianghan Plain, China, where snails are predominantly linearly distributed along the tributaries and water channels of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The proposed method could accurately map floods under clouds, and a total area of 231.5 km2 was identified as the snail spread area. The snail survival risk probabilities were thus estimated. The proposed method showed a more refined snail spread area and a more reliable degree of snail survival risk compared with those of previous studies. Accurate identification of maize plantation distribution and timely examination of key spatial-temporal drivers is a practice that can support agricultural production estimates and development decisions. Previous studies have rarely used efficient cloud processing methods to extract crop distribution, and meteorological and socioeconomic factors were often considered independently in driving force analysis. In this paper, we extract the spatial distribution of maize using classification and regression tree (CART) and random forest (RF) algorithms based on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. Combining remote sensing, meteorological and statistical data, the spatio-temporal variation characteristics of maize plantation proportion (MPP) at the county scale were analyzed using trend analysis, kernel density estimation, and standard deviation ellipse analysis, and the driving forces of MPP spatio-temporal variation were explored using partial correlation analysis and geodetectors. Our empirical results in Heilongjiang province, China showed that (1) the CART algorithm achieved higher classification accuracy than the RF algorithm; (2) MPP showed an upward trend in more than 75% of counties, especially in high-latitude regions; (3) the main climatic factor affecting the inter-annual fluctuation of MPP was relative humidity; (4) the impact of socioeconomic factors on MPP spatial distribution was significantly larger than meteorological factors, the temperature was the most important meteorological factor, and the number of rural households was the most important socioeconomic factor affecting MPP spatial distribution. The interaction between different factors was greater than a single factor alone; (5) the correlation between meteorological factors and MPP differed across different latitudinal regions and landforms. High Mountain Asia (HMA), with its high altitude, widely distributed snow and frozen soil, influences the climate of the northern hemisphere and even the world through thermal balance and the water vapor cycle and is also an indicator of global climate change. The influence of HMA snow cover on its surrounding areas has always been a research hotspot. Taking the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) of China as an example, this paper analyzes the relationship between winter snow depth in HMA and drought and flood in spring and summer in the YRB in the recent 40 years by using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The results show that the influence of snow cover on drought and flood in spring is inversely different between eastern and western parts of HMA, while the effect in summer is consistent. When the snow depth is larger (smaller) in the east and smaller (larger) in the west in winter, the YRB is drier (wetter) in spring. When the overall snow depth in HMA is larger (smaller) in winter, the northern part of the middle and lower reaches of the YRB is drier (wetter) in summer. The results provide support for understanding the impact of HMA snow cover on the surrounding climate and some important indicators for drought and flood prediction in the YRB. Atmospheric weighted mean temperature (Tm) is a key parameter used by the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for calculating precipitable water vapor (PWV). Some empirical Tm models using meteorological or non-meteorological parameters have been proposed to calculate PWV, but their accuracy and reliability cannot be guaranteed in some regions. To validate and determine the optimal Tm model for PWV retrieval in China, this paper analyzes and evaluates some typical Tm models, namely, the Linear, Global Pressure and Temperature 3 (GPT3), the Tm model for China (CTm), the Global Weighted Mean Temperature-H (GTm-H) and the Global Tropospheric (GTrop) models. The Tm values of these models are first obtained at corresponding radiosonde (RS) stations in China over the period of 2011 to 2020. The corresponding Tm values of 87 RS stations in China are also calculated using the layered meteorological data and regarded as the reference. Comparison results show that the accuracy of these five Tm models in China has an obvious geographical distribution and decreases along with increasing altitude and latitude, respectively. The average root mean square (RMS) and Bias for the Linear, GPT3, CTm, GTm-H and GTrop models are 4.2/3.7/3.4/3.6/3.3 K and 0.7/−1.0/0.7/−0.1/0.3 K, respectively. Among these models, Linear and GPT3 models have lower accuracy in high-altitude regions, whereas CTm, GTm-H and GTrop models show better accuracy and stability throughout the whole China. These models generally have higher accuracy in regions with low latitude and lower accuracy in regions with middle and high latitudes. In addition, Linear and GPT3 models have poor accuracy in general, whereas GTm-H and CTm models are obviously less accurate and stable than GTrop model in regions with high latitude. These models show different accuracies across the four geographical regions of China, with GTrop model demonstrating the relatively better accuracy and stability. Built-up areas (BAs) information acquisition is essential to urban planning and sustainable development in the Greater Bay Area in China. In this paper, a pseudo-Siamese dense convolutional network, namely PSDNet, is proposed to automatically extract BAs from the spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data in the Greater Bay Area, which considers the spatial statistical features and speckle features in SAR images. The local indicators of spatial association, including Moran's, Geary's, and Getis' together with the speckle divergence feature, are calculated for the SAR data, which can indicate the potential BAs. The amplitude SAR images and the corresponding features are then regarded as the inputs for PSDNet. In this framework, a pseudo-Siamese network can independently learn the BAs discrimination ability from the SAR original amplitude image and the features. The DenseNet is adopted as the backbone network of each channel, which can improve the efficiency while extracting the deep features of the BAs. Moreover, it also has the ability to extract the BAs with multi-scale sizes by using a multi-scale decoder. The Sentinel-1 (S1) SAR data for the Greater Bay Area in China are used for the experimental validation. Our method of BA extraction can achieve above 90% accuracy, which is similar to the current urban extraction product, demonstrating that our method can achieve BA mapping for spaceborne SAR data. Very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic waves distort along the long propagation path, and that causes the arrival time of the signals measured by the long-range lightning system to be delayed. In this paper, based on the propagation correction method by compensating the peak time delay of the ground wave, the location accuracy of the long-range lightning detection network in China is greatly improved. The improvement of the relative location accuracy and location offsets are evaluated by comparing with the Advanced Direction Time Lightning Detection System (ADTD) datasets. It shows that the mean relative accuracy is improved from 7.74 km to 4.32 km, and the median relative accuracy is improved from 7.28 km to 2.46 km. The mean westwards offset of the total lightning location data drops from 2.05 km to 0.93 km, and the mean southwards offset drops from 1.19 km to 0.63 km. In addition, it is found that the location accuracy will be greatly improved if the observation site affected by the terrain is removed. The concentration changes of aerosols have attracted wide-ranging attention during the COVID-19 lockdown (CLD) period, but the studies involving aerosol optical properties (AOPs) are relatively insufficient, mainly AOD (fine-mode AOD (AODf) and coarse-mode AOD (AODc)), aerosol absorption optical depth (AAOD), and aerosol extinction coefficient (AEC). Here, the remote-sensing observations, Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications, Version 2 (MERRA-2) products, backward-trajectory, and potential-source-contribution models are used to assess the impact of AOPs, vertical distribution, and possible sources on the atmosphere environment in North China Plain (NCP), Central China (CC), Yangtze River Delta (YRD), Pearl River Delta (PRD), and Sichuan Basin (SB) during the CLD period. The results demonstrate that both AOD (MODIS) and near-surface AEC (CALIPSO, <2 km) decreased in most areas of China. Compared with previous years (average 2017–2019), the AOD (AEC) of NCP, CC, YRD, PRD, and SB reduced by 3.33% (10.76%), 14.36% (32.48%), 10.80% (29.64%), 31.44% (22.68%), and 15.50% (8.44%), respectively. In addition, MODIS (AODc) and MERRA-2 (AODc) decreased in the five study areas compared with previous years, so the reduction in dust activities also contributed to improving regional air quality during the epidemic. Despite the reduction of anthropogenic emissions (AODf) in most areas of China during the CLD periods, severe haze events (AODf > 0.6) still occurred in some areas. Compared to previous years, there were increases in BC, OC (MERRA-2), and national raw coal consumption during CLD. Therefore, emissions from some key sectors (raw coal heating, thermal power generation, and residential coal) did not decrease, and this may have increased AODf during the CLD. Based on backward -rajectory and potential source contribution models, the study area was mainly influenced by local anthropogenic emissions, but some areas were also influenced by northwestern dust, Southeast Asian biomass burning, and marine aerosol transport. This paper underscores the importance of emissions from the residential sector and thermal power plants for atmospheric pollution in China and suggests that these sources must be taken into account in developing pollution-mitigation plans. After the "5·12" Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, collapses and landslides have occurred continuously, resulting in the accumulation of a large quantity of loose sediment on slopes or in gullies, providing rich material source reserves for the occurrence of debris flow and flash flood disasters. Therefore, it is of great significance to build a collapse and landslide susceptibility evaluation model in Wenchuan County for local disaster prevention and mitigation. Taking Wenchuan County as the research object and according to the data of 1081 historical collapse and landslide disaster points, as well as the natural environment, this paper first selects six categories of environmental factors (13 environmental factors in total) including topography (slope, aspect, curvature, terrain relief, TWI), geological structure (lithology, soil type, distance to fault), meteorology and hydrology (rainfall, distance to river), seismic impact (PGA), ecological impact (NDVI), and impact of human activity (land use). It then builds three single models (LR, SVM, RF) and three CF-based hybrid models (CF-LR, CF-SVM, CF-RF), and makes a comparative analysis of the accuracy and reliability of the models, thereby obtaining the optimal model in the research area. Finally, this study discusses the contribution of environmental factors to the collapse and the landslide susceptibility prediction of the optimal model. The research results show that (1) the areas prone to extremely high collapse and landslide predicted by the six models (LR, CF-LR, SVM, CF-SVM, RF and CF-RF) have an area of 730.595 km2, 377.521 km2, 361.772 km2, 372.979 km2, 318.631 km2, and 306.51 km2, respectively, and the frequency ratio precision of collapses and landslides is 0.916, 0.938, 0.955, 0.956, 0.972, and 0.984, respectively; (2) the ranking of the comprehensive index based on the confusion matrix is CF-RF>RF>CF-SVM>CF-LR>SVM>LR and the ranking of the AUC value is CF-RF>RF>CF-SVM>CF-LR>SVM>LR. To a certain extent, the coupling models can improve precision more over the single models. The CF-RF model ranks the highest in all indexes, with a POA value of 257.046 and an AUC value of 0.946; (3) rainfall, soil type, and distance to river are the three most important environmental factors, accounting for 24.216%, 22.309%, and 11.41%, respectively. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring of mountains and rock masses close to rivers in case of rainstorms in Wenchuan county and other similar areas prone to post-earthquake landslides. Timely and accurate information on rice cultivation makes important contributions to the profound reform of the global food and agricultural system, and promotes the development of global sustainable agriculture. With all-day and all-weather observing ability, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can monitor the distribution of rice in tropical and subtropical areas. To solve the problem of misclassification of rice with no marked signal during the flooding period in subtropical hilly areas, this paper proposes a new feature combination and dual branch bi-directional long short-term memory (DB-BiLSTM) model to achieve high-precision rice mapping using Sentinel-1 time series data. Based on field investigation data, the backscatter time series curves of the rice area were analyzed, and a characteristic index (VV − VH)/(VV + VH) (VV: vertical emission and vertical receipt of polarization, VH: vertical emission and horizontal receipt of polarization) for small areas of hilly land was proposed to effectively distinguish rice and non-rice crops with no marked flooding period. The DB-BiLSTM model was designed, ensuring the independent learning of multiple features and effectively combining the time series information of both (VV − VH)/(VV + VH) and VH features. The city of Shanwei, Guangdong Province, China, was selected as the study area. Experimental results showed that the overall accuracy of the rice mapping results was 97.29%, and the kappa coefficient reached 0.9424. Compared to other methods, the rice mapping results obtained by the proposed method maintained good integrity and had less misclassification, which demonstrated the proposed method's practical value in accurate and effective rice mapping tasks. The Gaofen-3 (GF-3) satellite can provide digital elevation model (DEM) data from its interferogram outputs. However, the accuracy of these data cannot be ensured without applying a surveying and mapping (SAM) calibration process, thus necessitating geometric and interferometric calibration technologies. In this paper, we propose an independent parameter decomposition (IPD) method to conduct SAM calibration on GF-3 data and generate high-accuracy DEMs. We resolved the geometric parameters to improve the location accuracy and resolved the interferometric parameters to improve the height accuracy. First, we established a geometric calibration model, analyzed the Range–Doppler (RD) model and resolved the initial imaging time error as well as the initial slant range error. Then, we established a three-dimensional reconstruction (TDR) model to analyze the height error sources. Finally, the interferometric phase error and baseline vector error were precisely estimated to ensure the vertical accuracy of the interferometric results by establishing the interferometric calibration model. We then used the GF-3 interferometric data derived on the same orbit in a north–south distribution to conduct the calibration experiment. The results show that the plane positioning accuracy was 5.09 m following geometric calibration, that the vertical accuracy of the interferometric results was 4.18 m following interferometric calibration and that the average absolute elevation accuracy of the derived DEM product was better than 3.09 m when using the GF-3 SAR data, thus confirming the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed GF-3 IPD calibration method. As China's railways continue to expand into the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, the number of deep-buried long tunnels is increasing. Tunnel-damaging geothermal disasters have become a common problem in underground engineering. Predicting the potential geothermal disaster areas along the Yunnan–Tibet railway project is conducive to its planning and construction and the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically, the industry, innovation and infrastructure goal (SDG 9). In this paper, the Yunnan–Tibet railway project was the study area. Landsat-8 images and other spatial data were used to investigate causes and distributions of geothermal disasters. A collinearity diagnosis of environmental variables was carried out. Twelve environmental variables, such as land surface temperature, were selected to predict potential geothermal disaster areas using four niche models (MaxEnt, Bioclim, Domain and GARP). The prediction results were divided into four levels and had different characteristics. Among them, the area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and kappa values of the MaxEnt model were the highest, at 0.84 and 0.63, respectively. Its prediction accuracy was the highest and the algorithm results are more suitable for the prediction of geothermal disasters. The prediction results show that the geothermal disaster potential is greatest in the Markam-Deqen, Zuogong-Zayu and Baxoi-Zayu regions. Through jack-knife analysis, it was found that the land surface temperature, active faults, water system distribution and Moho depth are the key environmental predictors of potential geothermal disaster areas. Landslide is a devastating natural disaster, causing loss of life and property. It is likely to occur more frequently due to increasing urbanization, deforestation, and climate change. Landslide susceptibility mapping is vital to safeguard life and property. This article surveys machine learning (ML) models used for landslide susceptibility mapping to understand the current trend by analyzing published articles based on the ML models, landslide causative factors (LCFs), study location, datasets, evaluation methods, and model performance. Existing literature considered in this comprehensive survey is systematically selected using the ROSES protocol. The trend indicates a growing interest in the field. The choice of LCFs depends on data availability and case study location; China is the most studied location, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) is considered the best evaluation metric. Many ML models have achieved an AUC value > 0.90, indicating high reliability of the susceptibility map generated. This paper also discusses the recently developed hybrid, ensemble, and deep learning (DL) models in landslide susceptibility mapping. Generally, hybrid, ensemble, and DL models outperform conventional ML models. There is a need to update soil maps and monitor soil organic carbon (SOC) in the upper horizons or plough layer for enabling decision support and land management, while complying with several policies, especially those favoring soil carbon storage. This review paper is dedicated to the satellite-based spectral approaches for SOC assessment that have been achieved from several satellite sensors, study scales and geographical contexts in the past decade. Most approaches relying on pure spectral models have been carried out since 2019 and have dealt with temperate croplands in Europe, China and North America at the scale of small regions, of some hundreds of km2: dry combustion and wet oxidation were the analytical determination methods used for 50% and 35% of the satellite-derived SOC studies, for which measured topsoil SOC contents mainly referred to mineral soils, typically cambisols and luvisols and to a lesser extent, regosols, leptosols, stagnosols and chernozems, with annual cropping systems with a SOC value of ~15 g·kg−1 and a range of 30 g·kg−1 in median. Most satellite-derived SOC spectral prediction models used limited preprocessing and were based on bare soil pixel retrieval after Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) thresholding. About one third of these models used partial least squares regression (PLSR), while another third used random forest (RF), and the remaining included machine learning methods such as support vector machine (SVM). We did not find any studies either on deep learning methods or on all-performance evaluations and uncertainty analysis of spatial model predictions. Nevertheless, the literature examined here identifies satellite-based spectral information, especially derived under bare soil conditions, as an interesting approach that deserves further investigations. Future research includes considering the simultaneous analysis of imagery acquired at several dates i.e., temporal mosaicking, testing the influence of possible disturbing factors and mitigating their effects fusing mixed models incorporating non-spectral ancillary information. Continuous Global Positioning Systems (GPS) coordinate time series with a high spatiotemporal resolution, and provide a great opportunity to study their noise models and common mode errors (CMEs), thus making it possible to detect and analyse spatiotemporal characteristics of tectonic and non-tectonic signals in time series, and further to estimate a reliable and accurate velocity field of crustal movement in a region by removing CMEs and using the optimal noise model. In this paper, we used GPS coordinate time series from the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) with an approximate decadal period from 2010 to 2020, to construct optimal noise models by fitting them with several noise combinations according to the Akaike information criterion (AIC). We further adopted independent component analysis (ICA) to extract CMEs and analysed their spatiotemporal characteristics, and then evaluated their effects on noise models and velocity uncertainties, and finally estimated a decennial velocity field of crustal movement with a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by applying the CME filtering and considering the optimal noise model in Mainland China. Our results show that optimal noise models are dominated by white noise (WN) plus flicker noise (FN) for both east and north components, and WN plus power law noise (PN) with spectral index close to −1 for up component, respectively. ICA filtering can remove the highly spatially correlated CMEs and decrease the mean RMSEs of the residual time series by about 40–60%, providing a more accurate velocity field with a higher SNR in Mainland China, accordingly. Seasonal variations in the vertical Global Positioning System (GPS) time series are mainly caused by environmental loading, e.g., hydrological loading (HYDL), atmospheric loading (ATML), and nontidal oceanic loading (NTOL), which can be synthesized based on models developed by various institutions. A comprehensive comparison among these models is essential to extract reliable vertical deformation data, especially on a regional scale. In this study, we selected 4 HYDL, 5 ATML, 2 NTOL, and their 40 combined products to investigate their effects on seasonal variations in vertical GPS time series at 27 GPS stations in Yunnan, southwest China. These products were provided by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), School and Observatory of Earth Sciences (EOST), and International Mass Loading Service (IMLS). Furthermore, we used the Cross Wavelet Transform (XWT) method to analyze the relative phase relationship between the GPS and the environmental loading time series. Our result showed that the largest average Root-Mean-Square (RMS) reduction value was 1.32 mm after removing the deformation associated with 4 HYDL from the vertical GPS time series, whereas the RMS reductions after 5 ATML and 2 NTOL model corrections were negative at most stations in Yunnan. The average RMS reduction value of the optimal combination of environmental loading products was 1.24 mm, which was worse than the HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT)-only correction, indicating that HYDL was the main factor responding for seasonal variations at most stations in Yunnan. The XWT result showed that HYDL also explained the annual variations reasonably. Our finding implies that HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT) contributes the most to the environmental loading in Yunnan, and that the ATML and NTOL models used in this paper cannot be effective to correct seasonal variations. Landslide extraction is one of the most popular topics in remote sensing. Numerous techniques have been proposed to manage the landslide identification problem. However, most aim to extract landslides that have already occurred or delineate the potential landslide manually. It is greatly important to identify and delineate potential landslides automatically, which has not been investigated. In this paper, we propose an automatic identification and delineation method, i.e., object-based image analysis (OBIA) of potential landslides by integrating optical imagery with a deformation map. We applied a deformation map generated by the interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technique, rather than the digital elevation model (DEM) for landslide segmentation. Then, we used a classification and regression tree (CART) model with the spectral, spatial, contextual and deformation characteristics for landslide classification. For accuracy assessment, we implemented the evaluation indicators of recall and precision. The proposed method is verified in both specific landslide-prone regions (Jinpingzi and Shuanglongtan landslides) and a large catchment of the Jinsha River, China. By comparing our results with the ones using purely optical imagery, the precision of the Jinpingzi landslide is improved by 14.12%, and the recall and precision of the Shuanglongtan landslide are improved by 3.1% and 3.6%, respectively, and the recall for the large catchment is improved by 9.95%. Thermal variations in surface and atmosphere observed from multiple satellites prior to strong earthquakes have been widely reported ever since seismic thermal anomalies were discovered three decades ago. These thermal changes are related to stress accumulation caused by the tectonic activities in the final stage of earthquake preparation. In the present paper, we focused on the thermal changes associated with the 2021 Madoi M 7.3 earthquake in China and analyzed the temporal and spatial evolution of the Index of Microwave Radiation Anomaly (IMRA) and the Index of Longwave Radiation Anomaly (ILRA) based on 8-year microwave brightness temperature (MWBT) and 14-year outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data collected by satellites. We also explored their responses in different tectonic units (seismogenic fault zone and active tectonic block). Our results indicated that the enhanced IMRA was distributed along the seismogenic fault since mid-February and reappeared for a longer time and with stronger intensity in March and April 2021. The pronounced enhancement in the ILRA was observed within one month over Bayan Har tectonic and adjacent blocks. The higher ILRA over the tectonic blocks in the southern Tibet Plateau at the beginning of 2021 could be associated with the regional stress accumulation, as proven by the occurrences of two moderate earthquakes during this period. Coal is one of the fundamental fossil energy supporting the world's economy. The synergistic development between efficient coal mining and ecological environment protection is the inevitable requirement for the preservation of global harmony. As the world's largest coal producer, China has conducted a strategic shift from east to west in terms of the exploitation of its energy resources, posing a serious threat to the fragile ecological environment of the western region. In particular, the surface subsidence caused by coal mining is the root of the ecological deteriotation and the destruction of ground structures. However, it is difficult to reveal the law of large-scale surface subsidence in western mining areas merely by conventional measurement methods such as leveling, on account of the high intensity of coal seam mining, the weakness of the lithology of overlying rock and the large thickness of wind-blown sand strata. In view of this, small baseline subset interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR) technology was used in this study to obtain the time series of surface vertical displacement during the whole mining process of the 2401 working face in the Yingpanhao coal mine, Inner Mongolia. Based on the deformation data, the dynamic evolution characteristics of surface subsidence under high intensity mining in the western mining area were analyzed exhaustively. It was found that the surface subsidence is characterized by an extensive coverage range (48.52 km2) with minimal ground settlement (250 mm) in the study area. Meanwhile, the boundary shape of the subsidence basin followed a "circular-parallelogram-trapezoid" changeable process and the coverage area of the basin experienced three stages: a linear increasing period, a temporary stagnation period, and a re-expansion period. Furthermore, there existed an abnormal uplift phenomenon on the east side of the open-off cut in the 2401 working face. Combined with the structure of overlying strata, this paper carried out a preliminary analysis on the reasons of the abovementioned phenomenon. Atmospheric water vapor is one of the important parameters for weather and climate studies. Generally, atmospheric water vapor can be monitored by some techniques, such as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), radiosonde (RS), remote sensing and numerical weather forecast (NWF). However, the comprehensive retrieval and application of precipitable water vapor (PWV) using multi techniques has been hardly performed before, which becomes the focus of this study. A comprehensive PWV retrieval and application platform (CPRAP) is first established by combing the ground-based (GNSS), space-based (Fengyun-3A, Sentinel-3A) and reanalysis-based (the fifth-generation reanalysis dataset of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, ERA5) techniques. Additionally, its applications are then extended to drought and rainfall monitoring using the CPRAP-derived PWV. The statistical result shows that PWV derived from ground-based GNSS has high accuracy in China, with the root mean square (RMS), Bias and mean absolute error (MAE) of 2.15, 0.05 and 1.65 mm, respectively, when the RS-derived PWV is regarded as the reference. In addition, the accuracy of PWV derived from the space-based (FY-3A and Sentinel-3A) techniques technique is also validated and the RMS, Bias and MAE of a Medium Resolution Spectral Imager (MERSI) onboard Fengyun-3A (FY-3A) and an Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) onboard Sentinel-3A are 4.46/0.56/3.61 mm and 2.95/0.01/1.37 mm, respectively. Then, the performance of ERA5-derived PWV is evaluated based on GNSS-derived and RS-derived PWV. The result also shows good accuracy of ERA5-provided PWV with the averaged RMS, Bias and MAE of 1.86/0.11/1.48 mm and 0.90/−0.05/1.51 mm, respectively. Finally, the PWV data derived from the established CPRAP are further used for drought and rainfall monitoring. The applied results reveal that the calculated the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) using the CPRAP-derived PWV can monitor the drought and the correlation coefficient ranges from 0.83 to 0.9 when compared with the SPEI. Furthermore, in this paper correlation analysis between PWV derived from the CPRAP and rainfall, and its potential for rainfall monitoring was also validated. Haiyang-2D (HY-2D) is the fourth satellite in the marine dynamic satellite series established by China. It was successfully launched on 19 May 2021, marking the era of the 3-satellite network in the marine dynamic environment satellite series of China. The satellite's precision orbit determination (POD) and validations are of great significance for ocean warning and marine altimetry missions. HY-2D is equipped with a laser reflector array (LRA), a satellite-borne Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS) receiver, and a satellite-borne dual-frequency GPS receiver named HY2 that was independently developed in China. In this paper, the quality of GPS data collected by the HY2 is analyzed based on indicators such as the multipath effect, cycle slips, and data completeness. The results suggest that the receiver can be used in POD missions involving low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites. The precise orbits of HY-2D are determined by the reduced-dynamics (RD) method. Apart from POD, validation of orbit accuracy is another important task for LEO POD. Therefore, two external validation methods are proposed, including carrier differential validation using one GPS satellite and inter-satellite differential validation using two GPS satellites. These are based on space-borne carrier-phase data, and the GPS satellites used for POD validation do not participate in orbit determination. The results of SLR range validation cannot illustrate the orbit accuracy in x, y, and z directions particularly, so to make validation results more intuitive, the SLR three-dimensional (3D) validation is proposed based on SLR range validation, and the RMSs in x, y, and z directions are 2.66, 3.32, and 2.69 cm, respectively. The results of SLR 3D validation are the same as those of SLR range validation, which proves that the new external validation method provided by SLR 3D is reliable. The RMSs of carrier differential validation and inter-satellite differential validation are 0.68 and 1.06 cm, respectively. The proposed validation methods are proved to be reliable.
