In recent years, Model Predictive Torque Control (MPTC) has gained popularity as a powerful method of controlling Induction Motors (IMs). There are, however, some factors such as the weighted coefficient that must be taken into account to attain satisfactory performance at different operation points for stator flux. As of now, an empirical procedure has been used for tuning the weighting factor in MPTC, which is not as effective. Model Predictive Flux Control (MPFC) is proposed in this paper, which eliminates complicated process of predicting the stator current by using the flux vectors as control variables. In order to get over these obstacles, a novel Model Predictive Control (MPC) method utilizing a Cascaded Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is proposed in this research. As a result, the control complexity is diminished and weighting factor in standard MPTC is eliminated. In-depth evaluations and comparisons of MPTC and MPFC are conducted, covering low-speed function, dynamic response, and steady-state performance. In contract to traditional approaches, the preferred method has much lower computational cost, virtuous dynamic response, and superior steady-state performance. The overall proposed work is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK platform and experimental tests performed on 3Φ VSI fed IM drives are used to verify the efficacy of proposed approach. This paper presents improved single- and multi-objective algorithms based on the original moth flame optimizer (MFO) to tackle the dynamic economic emission dispatch (DEED) problem that affects power systems operations. The DEED problem is a multi-objective optimization problem that is strongly constrained, multi-dimensional, nonlinear, and non-convex. It comprises several optimization criteria, many of which are in direct opposition to one another; therefore, no one solution is optimal with regard to all of those criteria. Firstly, an enhanced flame generation strategy is incorporated into the MFO algorithm to improve performance. Then, the improved MFO is combined with the crowding distance mechanism and non-dominated sorting framework to enhance the convergence rate and the quality of the results. This helps improve the convergence pace. Firstly, the proposed multi-objective moth flame optimizer (MOMFO) algorithm is validated using 15 ZDT and UF benchmark multi-objective test functions. Then, the nonlinear DEED problem is also solved by determining the feasible optimal solution using the MOMFO algorithm. The implementation of the MOMFO on 10-unit systems and the IEEE 30-bus test system is being done to display the ability to solve a nonlinear, non-convex, and constrained DEED optimization problem. The DEED problem is solved using the MOMFO algorithm and other state-of-the-art algorithms, such as the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II), the multi-objective teaching–learning-based optimization (MOTLBO) algorithm, and multi-objective reptile search algorithm (MORSA). The selection of the control parameters of the MOMFO can be decided from the algorithm's findings on different IEEE bus systems. This study also introduces a new technique for incorporating loss predictions using artificial neural networks into the DEED model. During each phase of the dispatch time, the trained neural network can make only a single forecast of the transmission loss. The performance of MOMFO is compared with NSGA-II, MOTLBO, and MORSA, and the results obtained for both benchmarks and DEED proved the superiority of the proposed algorithm in solving the DEED of the power systems. This research paper aims to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of grid-connected solid-state transformers (SSTs) by detecting and evaluating various undesirable operating conditions. The study considers different types of faults, including internal faults like open switches and open capacitors, external faults such as symmetrical and asymmetrical faults occurring at various locations of the SST, and abnormalities on the grid side known as sympathetic inrush conditions. To analyze these operating conditions, the secondary current of the high-frequency transformer is normalized and decomposed using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and wavelet packet transform (WPT). From the DWT and WPT decomposition at multiple levels, several statistical parameters are calculated. These statistical parameters are carefully selected from different decomposition levels to enhance the effectiveness of the detection algorithm utilizing DWT and WPT. In order to quickly identify and classify all operating conditions that impact the performance of the grid-connected SST, a three-layer feedforward artificial neural network (ANN) is employed, using the selected statistical features. The accuracy and efficiency of the ANN-based classification approach are evaluated by assessing the effectiveness of the statistical features obtained from DWT and WPT. Simulation results have been altered by introducing various noise levels to systematically assess the performance of the proposed algorithms. The average accuracy of the DWT-ANN algorithm stands at 97.89%, while the WPT-ANN algorithm achieves a slightly elevated accuracy level of 98.01%. This paper introduces a neural network adjustment method for a single gain of an integral proportional (IP) speed regulator, to improve the speed control of an induction motor. Thanks to its simplicity and strength, the integral proportional (IP) controller is widely used in the industry for speed control. Yet, in some cases, when the load or mechanical parameters change according to its working conditions, the integral proportional (IP) efficiency decreases, and the setup quality degrades. In this case, a neural IP-self-tuning seems to overcome these difficulties and ensure a good control performance. The increasing complexity of modern power systems due to the integration of prosumers, renewable energy sources, and energy storage, has significantly complicated system organization and planning. Traditional centralized power plants are being replaced by decentralized structures, making the power flow more complex to predict. As a result, alternative methodologies for power system planning are imminent. This paper introduces a novel approach using a combination of artificial neural network (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) models for forecasting system states. Here, ANN model predicts energy consumption, while the ANFIS model forecasts thermal and hydro power plant production as well as CO2 emissions. The accuracy of these models results from leveraging the collective expertise of power system planning professionals, utilizing extensive databases containing hourly data from measurements in Serbian power systems. These datasets encompass hourly production data from various energy sources, energy consumption patterns, and relevant environmental parameters (such as temperature, wind speed, and solar irradiation). To underscore the effectiveness of the proposed ANN model, predictions of power consumption from ANN are compared with predictions from ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) model. The developed forecasting models are employed to predict annual and daily energy consumption, seasonal variations in thermal and hydro production, and annual CO2 emissions. The dependencies between power consumption/production and ambient parameters are visually depicted in three-dimensional representations. Model accuracy is evaluated through graphical, numerical, and error-based analyses across four distinct error metrics. By utilizing historical data and expert insights from previous production scheduling, these models enhance the precision of future production scheduling decisions. This approach minimizes human error, maximizes the utilization of human expertise, and establishes a framework for effectively planning large-scale power systems. The primary contribution of this research lies in the integration of artificial neural network (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) methodologies. This combined approach minimizes the errors inherent in each individual methodology while leveraging their respective advantages. Specifically, the consumption prediction error achieved is 5.64%. In modern power systems, accurate and timely detection of faults is crucial for ensuring system stability and reliability. The presence of high resistance in fault path curtails current and causes conventional distance relays to malfunction. These methods often require two-end measurements for accurate assessment of fault resistance necessitates an expensive communication channel. This paper proposes an innovative approach to enhance transmission line protection through an adaptive artificial neural network (ANN)-based relay system. The relay system integrates three ANN units: the fault detection unit, fault classification unit, and fault location unit, each tailored to detect, classify, and locate faults, respectively. By utilizing single-end measurements and employing discrete Fourier transform for feature extraction, the proposed algorithm efficiently diagnoses various fault conditions, including high resistance faults. Additionally, the algorithm dynamically updates its characteristics based on the estimated fault resistance (using one cycle post-fault data and the status of each ANN unit) in real-time, ensuring adaptability to changing system conditions, especially when the fault resistance falls beyond the scope of the training data. Simulation results on a 400-kV, 50-Hz transmission system demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach in accurately identifying fault events under varying fault parameters, while also accounting for arcing faults and transducer errors. The suitability of the proposed method for real-time operations has been validated using OPAL-RT digital simulator. The adaptability of the proposed method for higher order systems is verified by performing a test case on the modified WSCC 9-bus system. The results support the adaptability and effectiveness of the proposed relaying algorithm in securing the transmission line under various conditions, including high resistance faults.
