This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on the Applications of Evolutionary Computation, EvoApplications 2011, held in Torino, Italy, in April 2011 colocated with the Evo• 2011 events. Thanks to the large number of submissions received, the proceedings for EvoApplications 2011 are divided across two volumes (LNCS 6624 and 6625). The present volume contains contributions for EvoCOMNET, EvoFIN, EvoIHOT, EvoMUSART, EvoSTIM, and EvoTRANSLOC. The 51 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. This volume presents an overview about the latest research in EC. Areas where evolutionary computation techniques have been applied range from telecommunication networks to complex systems, finance and economics, games, image analysis, evolutionary music and art, parameter optimization, scheduling, and logistics. These papers may provide guidelines to help new researchers tackling their own problem using EC.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on Reconfigurable Computing: Architectures, Tools and Applications, ARC 2011, held in Belfast, UK, in March 2011. The 40 revised papers presented, consisting of 24 full papers, 14 poster papers, and the abstracts of 2 plenary talks, were carefully reviewed and selected from 88 submissions. The topics covered are reconfigurable accelerators, design tools, reconfigurable processors, applications, device architecture, methodology and simulation, and system architecture.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Software Engineering and Formal Methods, SEFM 2011, held in Montevideo, Uruguay, in November 2011. The 22 revised regular papers presented together with 1 short paper, 2 tool papers, and 4 keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 105 initial abstracts and 85 full submissions. Besides the regular session the conference held a special track devoted to'Modeling for Sustainable Development'with 5 accepted papers - selected from 7 submissions - that are also part of this volume. The aim of SEFM is to advance the state of the art in formal methods, to scale up their application in software industry and to encourage their integration with practical engineering methods.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 9th German Conference on Multiagent System Technologies held in Berlin, Germany, in October 2011. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 20th European Symposium on Programming, ESOP 2011, held in Saarbrücken, Germany, March 30—April 1, 2011, as part of ETAPS 2011, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. The 24 revised full papers presented together with one full length invited talk were carefully reviewed and selected from 93 full paper submissions. Papers were invited on all aspects of programming language research including: programming paradigms and styles, methods and tools to write and specify programs and languages, methods and tools for reasoning about programs, methods and tools for implementation, and concurrency and distribution.

The book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Software Composition, SC 2011, held in Zurich, Switzerland, in June/July 2011, co-located with TOOLS 2011 Federated Conferences. The 10 revised full papers and 2 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 32 initial submissions for inclusion in the book. The papers reflect all current research in software composition and are organized in topical sections on composition and interfaces, aspects and features, and applications.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Fundamental Approaches to Software Engineering, FASE 2011, held in Saarbrücken, Germany, March 26—April 3, 2011, as part of ETAPS 2011, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. The 29 revised full papers presented together with one full length invited talk were carefully reviewed and selected from 99 full paper submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on verification, specification and modeling, reachability and model checking, model driven engineering, software development for QoS, testing: theory and new trends, testing in practice, code development and analysis, and empirical studies.

This LNCS volume contains the papers presented at the First Swarm, Evolutionary and Memetic Computing Conference (SEMCCO 2010) held during December 16–– 18, 2010 at SRM University, Chennai, in India. SEMCCO 2010 marked the beginning of a prestigious international conference series that aims at bringing together researchers from academia and industry to report and review the latest progress in the cutting-edge research on swarm, evolutionary, and memetic computing, to explore new application areas, to design new bio-inspired algorithms for solving specific hard optimization problems, and finally to create awareness on these domains to a wider audience of practitioners. SEMCCO 2010 received 225 paper submissions from 20 countries across the globe. After a rigorous peer-review process involving 610 reviews in total, 90 fu- length articles were accepted for oral presentation at the conference. This corresponds to an acceptance rate of 40% and is intended for maintaining the high standardsof the conference proceedings. The papers included in this LNCS volume cover a wide range of topics in swarm, evolutionary, and memetic computing algorithms and their real-world applications in problems selected from diverse domains of science and engineering.

2010 was the first time that the International Conference on Software Process was held autonomously and not co-located with a larger conference. This was a special challenge and we are glad that the conference gained a lot of attention, a significant number of contributions and many highly interested participants from industry and academia. This volume contains the papers presented at ICSP 2010 held in Paderborn, G- many, during July 8-9, 2010. ICSP 2010 was the fourth conference of the ICSP series. The conference provided a forum for researchers and industrial practitioners to - change new research results, experiences, and findings in the area of software and system process modeling and management. The increasing distribution of development activities, new development paradigms such as cloud computing, new classes of systems such as cyber-physical systems, and short technology cycles are currently driving forces for the software domain. They require appropriate answers with respect to process models and management, suitable modeling concepts, and an understanding of the effects of the processes in specific environments and domains. Many papers in the proceedings address these issues.

– Those who want to learn about AOM?nd in this special issue a concise collection of descriptions of solid and mature AOM approaches. They only have to take the time to understand one case study in order to appreciate the sample models shown in all papers. – Those who want to apply AOM for a particular purpose and are looking for the most appropriate AOM technique can use the papers presented in this specialissue to identify the mostpromisingapproach(es).By identifying similarities between their problem and the case study they should be able to determine candidate AOM approaches easily. – Those working on their own AOM approach can readily identify approaches that were able to handle concerns that their own approach is not able to handle elegantly. Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. Based on rigorous reviews by the Program Committee members and reviewers, 185 high-quality papers were selected for publication in the proceedings with the acceptance rate of 46.9%. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems, FMOODS 2009, and 29th IFIP WG 6.1 Formal Techniques for Networked and Distributed Systems, FORTE 2009, held in Lisboa, Portugal, in June 2009. The 12 revised full papers presented together with 6 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 42 submissions. The papers cover topics such as formal verification, algorithms and implementations, modeling and testing, process algebra and calculus as well as analysis of distributed systems.

To identify the emergent trends in software-intensive and distributed and decentralized computer systems and their impact on the Information Society in the next 10--15 years, the European Commission has established two Coordinated Actions: Initially the project `Beyond the Horizon'and then, starting in 2006, the project `InterLink'. This state-of-the-art survey presents the results of three workshops of the InterLink working group on software-intensive systems and novel computing paradigms. The objective was to imagine the landscape in which next generations of software-intensive systems will operate and the challenges they present to computing, software engineering, cognition and intelligence. The volume starts with an overview of the current state of the art and the research missions in engineering software-intensive systems. The remainder of the book consists of 15 invited papers of the working group participants and is structured in three major parts: ensemble engineering, theory and formal methods, and novel computing paradigms. These papers cover a broad spectrum of relevant topics ranging from methods, languages and tools for ensemble engineering, socio-technical and cyber-physical systems, ensembles in urban environments, formal methods and mathematical foundations for ensembles, orchestration languages to disruptive paradigms such as molecular and chemical computing.

The goal of the International Symposia on Software Composition is to advance the state of the research in component-based software development. We focus on the challenges related to component development, reuse, veri?cation and, of course,composition.Softwarecompositionisbecomingmoreandmoreimportant as innovation in software engineering shifts from the development of individual components to their reuse and recombination in novel ways. To this end, for the 2008 edition, researchers were solicited to contribute on topics related to component adaptation techniques, composition languages, calculi and type systems, as well as emerging composition techniques such as aspect-oriented programming, service-oriented architectures, and mashups. In line with previous editions of SC, contributions were sought focusing on both theory and practice, with a particular interest in e?orts relating them. This LNCS volume contains the proceedings of the 7th International S- posium on Software Composition, which was held on March 29–30, 2008, as a satellite event of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS), in Budapest, Hungary. We received 90 initial submissions from all over the world, out of which 70 were considered for evaluation by a Program Committee consisting of 30 - ternational experts. Among these submissions, we selected 13 long papers and 6 short papers to be included in the proceedings and presented at the conf- ence. Each paper went through a thoroughrevisionprocess and was reviewedby three to?ve reviewers. This ensured the necessary quality for publishing these proceedings in time for the event, a?rst in the history of the symposium.

It is a pleasure to present the proceedings of the 22nd European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP 2008) held in Paphos, Cyprus. The conference continues to serve a broad object-oriented community with a tech- cal program spanning theory and practice and a healthy mix of industrial and academic participants. This year a strong workshop and tutorial program c- plementedthemaintechnicaltrack.Wehad13workshopsand8tutorials,aswell as the co-located Dynamic Language Symposium (DLS). Finally, the program was rounded out with a keynote by Rachid Guerraoui and a banquet speech by James Noble. As in previous years, two Dahl-Nygaard awards were selected by AITO, and for the?rst time, the ECOOP Program Committee gave a best paper award. Theproceedingsinclude27papersselectedfrom138submissions.Thepapers werereviewed in a single-blind process with three to?ve reviews per paper. P- liminaryversionsofthereviewsweremadeavailabletotheauthorsaweekbefore the PC meeting to allow for short (500 words or less) author responses. The - sponses were discussed at the PC meeting and were instrumental in reaching decisions. The PC discussions followed Oscar Nierstrasz'Champion pattern. PC papers had?ve reviews and were held at a higher standard.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Concurrency Theory (CONCUR 2008) which took place at the University of TorontoinToronto,Canada,August19–22,2008. CONCUR2008wasco-located with the 27th Annual ACM SIGACT-SIGOPS Symposium on the Principles of Distributed Computing (PODC 2008), and the two conferences shared two invited speakers, some social events, and a symposium celebrating the lifelong research contributions of Nancy Lynch. The purpose of the CONCUR conferences is to bring together researchers, developers, and students in order to advance the theory of concurrency and promote its applications. Interest in this topic is continuously growing, as a consequence of the importance and ubiquity of concurrent systems and their applications, and of the scienti?c relevance of their foundations. Topics include basic models of concurrency (such as abstract machines, domain theoretic m- els, game theoretic models, process algebras, and Petri nets), logics for c- currency (such as modal logics, temporal logics and resource logics), models of specialized systems (such as biology-inspired systems, circuits, hybrid systems, mobile systems, multi-core processors, probabilistic systems, real-time systems, synchronoussystems, and Web services),veri?cationand analysis techniques for concurrent systems (such as abstract interpretation, atomicity checking, mod- checking, race detection, run-time veri?cation, state-space exploration, static analysis,synthesis,testing, theorem provingand type systems), andrelated p- gramming models (such as distributed or object-oriented). Of the 120 regular and 5 tool papers submitted this year, 33 regular and 2 tool papers were accepted for presentation and areincluded in the present v- ume.

Providing all the latest on a topic of extreme commercial relevance, this book contains the refereed proceedings of the 10th International ACM SIGSOFT Symposium on Component-Based Software Engineering, held in Medford, MA, USA in July 2007. The 19 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 89 submissions. The papers feature new trends in global software services and distributed systems architectures to push the limits of established and tested component-based methods, tools and platforms.

This volume contains the papers accepted for the 4th Workshop on Algorithm Engineering (WAE 2000) held in Saarbruc ¨ ken, Germany, during 5–8 September 2000, together with the abstract of the invited lecture given by Karsten Weihe. The Workshop on Algorithm Engineering covers research on all aspects of the subject. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore directions for future research. Previous meetings were held in Venice (1997), Saarbruc ¨ ken (1998), and London (1999). Papers were solicited describing original research in all aspects of algorithm engineering, including: – Development of software repositories and platforms which allow the use of and experimentation with e?cient discrete algorithms. – Novel uses of discrete algorithms in other disciplines and the evaluation of algorithms for realistic environments. – Methodological issues including standards in the context of empirical - search on algorithms and data structures. – Methodological issues regarding the process of converting user requirements into e?cient algorithmic solutions and implementations. The program committee accepted 16 from a total of 30 submissions. The program committee meeting was conducted electronically. The criteria for sel- tion were originality, quality, and relevance to the subject area of the workshop. Considerable e?ort was devoted to the evaluation of the submissions and to p- viding the authors with feedback. Each submission was reviewed by at least four program committee members (assisted by subreferees). A special issue of the ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics will be devoted to selected papers from WAE 2000.

The papers are organized in topical sections on program query and persistence, ownership and concurrency, languages, type theory, types for object-oriented languages, tools, and modularity. 5 more papers celebrate the 20th anniversary of ECOOP.

Clusters of workstations/PCs connected by o?-the-shelf networks have become popular as a platform for cost-e?ective parallel computing. Hardware and so- ware technological advances have made this network-based parallel computing platform feasible. A large number of research groups from academia and industry are working to enhance the capabilities of such a platform, thereby improving its cost-e?ectiveness and usability. These developments are facilitating the mig- tion of many existing applications as well as the development of new applications on this platform. Continuing in the tradition of the two previously successful workshops, this 3rd Workshop on Communication, Architecture and Applications for Netwo- based Parallel Computing (CANPC'99) has brought together researchers and practitioners working in architecture, system software, applications and perf- mance evaluation to discuss state-of-the-art solutions for network-based parallel computing systems. This workshop has become an excellent forum for timely dissemination of ideas and healthy interaction on topics at the cutting edge in cluster computing technology. Each submitted paper underwent a rigorous review process, and was assigned to at least 3 reviewers, including at least 2 program committee members. Each paper received at least 2 reviews, most received 3 and some even had 4 reviews.

Many software systems have reached a level of complication, mainly because of their size, heterogeneity and distribution, which results in faults appearing that cannot be traced back easily to the code. Some of these'faults'could also be unexpected program behavior that appears as a result of interactions between different parts of the program; this is commonly known as complexity. New methods, approaches, tools and techniques are needed to cope with the increasing complexity in software systems; amongst them, fault-tolerance techniques and formal methods, supported by the corresponding tools, are promising solutions. This book brings together papers focusing on the application of rigorous design techniques to the development of fault-tolerant, software-based systems. This volume is an outcome of the REFT 2005 Workshop on Rigorous Engineering of Fault-Tolerant Systems held in conjunction with the Formal Methods 2005 conference at Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, in July 2005. The authors of the best workshop papers were asked to enhance and expand their work and a number of well-established researchers working in the area contributed invited chapters. From the 19 refereed and revised papers presented, 12 are versions reworked from the workshop; 9 of them are totally new. The book is rounded off by two provocatively different position on the role of programming languages.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Concurrency Theory (CONCUR) held in Bonn, Germany, August 27–30, 2006. The purpose of the CONCUR conference series is to bring together researchers, developers and students in order to advance the theory of concurrency and promote its applications. Interest in this topic is continuously growing, as a consequence of the importance and ubiquity of concurrent systems and their applications and the scientific relevance of their foundations. The scope of CONCUR covers all areas of semantics, logics, and verification techniques for concurrent systems. Topics include basic models and logics of concurrent and distributed computation (such as process algebras, Petri nets, domain theoretic or game theoretic models, modal and temporal logics), specialized models or classes of systems (such as circuits, synchronous systems, real-time and hybrid systems, stochastic systems, databases, mobile and migrating systems, parametric protocols, security protocols), related verification techniques and tools (such as staff space exploration, model-checking, synthesis, abstraction, automated deduction, testing), and related programming models (such as distributed, constraint- or object-oriented, graph rewriting, as well as associated typesystems, static analyses, abstract machines, and environments). This volume starts with five invited papers covering the invited lectures and tutorials of the conference. The remaining 29 papers were selected by the Programme Committee out of 101 submissions after a very intensive reviewing and discussion phase. We would like to thank the members of the Programme Committee and the external reviewers for their excellent and hard work. The conference programme contained three invited lectures and two invited tutorials.

DISC, the International Symposium on DIStributed Computing, is an annual forum for presentation of research on all facets of distributed computing, inc- ding the theory, design, analysis, implementation, and application of distributed systems and networks. The 20th anniversary edition of DISC was held on S- tember 18-20, 2006, in Stockholm, Sweden. There were 145 extended abstracts submitted to DISC this year, and this - lume contains the 35 contributions selected by the Program Committee and one invited paper among these 145 submissions. All submitted papers were read and evaluated by at least three Program Committee members, assisted by external reviewers. The?nal decision regarding every paper was taken during the P- gram Committee meeting, which took place in Beer-Sheva, June 30 and July 1, 2006. The Best Student Award was split and given to two papers: the paper “- act Distance Labelings Yield Additive-Stretch Compact Routing Schemes,” by Arthur Bradly, and Lenore Cowen, and the paper “A Fast Distributed App- ximation Algorithm for Minimum Spanning Trees” co-authored by Maleq Khan and Gopal Pandurangan. The proceedings also include 13 three-page-long brief announcements (BA). Researchers use the BA track to quickly draw the attention of the community to their experiences, insights and results from ongoing distributed computing research and projects. The 19th Annual Meeting of the European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming—ECOOP 2005—took place during the last week of July in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. This volume includes the refereed technical papers p- sented at the conference, and two invited papers. It is traditional to preface a volume of proceedings such as this with a note that emphasizes the importance of the conference in its respective?eld. Although such self-evaluations should always be taken with a large grain of salt, ECOOP is undisputedly the pre- inent conference on object-orientation outside of the United States. In its turn, object-orientationis today's principaltechnology not only for programming,but also for design, analysisand speci?cation of softwaresystems. As a consequence, ECOOP has expanded far beyond its roots in programming to encompass all of these areas of research—whichis why ECOOP has remained such an interesting conference. But ECOOP is more than an interesting conference. It is the nucleus of a technical and academic community, a community whose goals are the creation and dissemination of new knowledge. Chance meetings at ECOOP have helped to spawn collaborations that span the boundaries of our many subdisciplines, bring together researchers and practitioners, cross cultures, and reach from one side of the world to the other. The ubiquity of fast electronic communication has made maintaining these collaborations easier than we would have believed possible only a dozen years ago. But the role of conferences like ECOOP in establishing collaborations has not diminished.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Fourth International AMAST Workshop on Real-Time Systems and Concurrent and Distributed Software, ARTS'97, held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in May 1997.The volume presents 24 carefully selected revised full papers. Also included are two historical contributions honoring Ramon Llull, who was born on Mallorca, as well as two invited papers. All current issues in the field of formal methods for real-time systems and distributed and concurrent systems are addressed.

The papers in this volume were selected for presentation at the Eleventh Annual International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation (ISAAC 2000), held on 18{20 December, 2000 at the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. Previous meetings were held in Tokyo (1990), Taipei (1991), Nagoya (1992), Hong Kong (1993), Beijing (1994), Cairns (1995), Osaka (1996), Singapore (1997), Taejon (1998), and Chennai (1999). Submissions to the conference this year were conducted entirely electro- cally. Thanks to the excellent software developed by the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, we were able to carry out virtually all communication via the World Wide Web. In response to the call for papers, a total of 87 extended abstracts were submitted from 25 countries. Each submitted paper was handled by at least three program committee members, with the assistance of a number of external reviewers, as indicated by the referee list found in the proceedings. There were many more acceptable papers than there was space available in the symposium program, which made the program committee's task extremely di cult. Finally 46 papers were selected for presentation at the Symposium. In addition to these contributed papers, the conference also included two invited presentations by Dr. Jean-Daniel Boissonnat, INRIA Sophia-Antipolis, France and Professor Jin-Yi Cai, University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin, USA. It is expected that most of the accepted papers will appear in a more complete form in scienti c journals.

The refereed proceedings of the 17th European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, ECOOP 2003, held in Darmstadt, Germany in July 2003. The 18 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 88 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on aspects and components; patterns, architecture, and collaboration; types; modeling; algorithms, optimization, and runtimes; and formal techniques and methodology.

We welcome you to Coordination'99, the third in a series of conferences d- icated to an important perspective on the development of complex software systems. That perspective is shared by a growing community of researchers - terested in models, languages, and implementation techniques for coordination. The last decade has seen the emergence of a class of models and languages variously termed “coordination languages”, “con?guration languages”, “arc- tectural description languages”, and “agent-oriented programming languages”. Theseformalismsprovideacleanseparationbetweenindividualsoftwarecom- nents and their interaction within the overall software organization. This se- ration makes complex applications more tractable, supports global analysis,and enhances the reuse of software components. The abstracts and papers in this volume were presented at the Fifth Annual International Computing and Combinatorics Conference (COCOON'99), which was held in Tokyo, Japan from July 26 to 28, 1999. The topics cover most aspects of theoretical computer science and combinatorics pertaining to computing. In response to the call for papers, 88 high-quality extended abstracts were submitted internationally, of which 46 were selected for presentation by the p- gram committee. Every submitted paper was reviewed by at least three program committee members. Many of these papers represent reports on continuing - search, and it is expected that most of them will appear in a more polished and complete form in scienti c journals. In addition to the regular papers, this v- ume contains abstracts of two invited plenary talks by Prabhakar Raghavan and Seinosuke Toda. The conference also included a special talk by Kurt Mehlhorn on LEDA (Library of E cient Data types and Algorithms). The Hao Wang Award (inaugurated at COCOON'97) is given to honor the paper judged by the program committee to have the greatest scienti c merit. The recipients of the Hao Wang Award 1999 were Hiroshi Nagamochi and Tos- hide Ibaraki for their paper \An Approximation for Finding a Smallest 2-Edge- Connected Subgraph Containing a Speci ed Spanning Tree'.

The LCPC community is interested in a broad range of te- nologies, with a common goal of developing software systems that enable real applications. Amongthetopicsofinteresttotheworkshoparelanguagefeatures, communication code generation and optimization, communication libraries, d- tributed shared memory libraries, distributed object systems, resource m- agement systems, integration of compiler and runtime systems, irregular and dynamic applications, performance evaluation, and debuggers. LCPC'98 was hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) on 7 - 9 August 1998, at the William and Ida Friday Center on the UNC-CH campus. Fifty people from the United States, Europe, and Asia attended the workshop. The program committee of LCPC'98, with the help of external reviewers, evaluated the submitted papers. Twenty-four papers were selected for formal presentation at the workshop. Each session was followed by an open panel d- cussion centered on the main topic of the particular session.

DISC, the International Symposium on DIStributed Computing, is an annual forum for research presentations on all facets of distributed computing. This volume includes 23 contributed papers and an invited lecture, all presented at DISC'99, held on September 27-29, 1999 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. In addition to regular submissions, the call for papers for DISC'99 also - licited Brief Announcements (BAs). We received 60 regular submissions and 15 brief announcement submissions. These were read and evaluated by the p- gramcommittee, with the additional help of external reviewerswhen needed. At the program committee meeting on June 10-11 at Dartmouth College, Hanover, USA, 23 regular submissions and 4 BAs were selected for presentation at DISC'99. The extended abstracts of these 23 regular papers appear in this volume, while the four BAs appear as a special publication of Comenius Univ- sity, Bratislava– the hostof DISC'99.It is expected that the regularpapers will be submitted later, in more polished form, to fully refereed scienti?c journals. Of the 23 regular papers selected for the conference, 12 quali?ed for the Best Student Paper award. The program committee awarded this honor to the paper entitled “Revisiting the Weakest Failure Detector for Uniform Reliable Broadcast” by Marcos Aguilera, Sam Toueg, and Borislav Deianov. Marcos and Borislav, who are both students, share this award.

For the?fth time in its history, in cooperation with Springer-Verlag, the European C- ference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP) conference series is glad to offer the object-oriented research community the ECOOP 2001 Workshop Reader, a c- pendium of workshop reports, panel transcripts, and poster abstracts pertaining to the ECOOP 2001 conference, held in Budapest from 18 to 22 June, 2001. ECOOP 2001 hosted 19 high-quality workshops covering a large spectrum of - search topics. The workshops attracted 460 participants on the?rst two days of the conference. Originally 22 workshops were chosen from 26 proposals by a workshop selection committee, following a peer review process. Due to the overlaps in the areas of interest and the suggestions made by the committee six of the groups decided to merge their topicsintothreeworkshops.Thisbookcontainsinformationonthepanel,postersession, and 17 workshop reports, for which we have to thank our workshop organizers, who did a great job in preparing and formatting them.
