This book constitutes the proceedings of the Second OpenSHMEM Workshop, held in Annapolis, MD, USA, in August 2015. The 12 technical papers and one short position papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 submissions. The topics of the workshop included extensions to the OpenSHMEM API, implementation of the API for current and emerging architectures, tools to debug and profile OpenSHMEM programs, experience porting applications to the OpenSHMEM programming model, and changes to the OpenSHMEM specification to address the needs of programming exascale systems.

Software architectures that contain many dynamically interacting components, each with its own thread of control, engaging in complex coordination protocols, are difficult to correctly and efficiently engineer. Agent-oriented modelling techniques are important for the design and development of such applications. This book provides a diverse and interesting overview of the work that is currently being undertaken by a growing number of researchers in the area of Agent-Oriented Software Engineering. This volume constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, AOSE 2007, held in Honolulu, Hawaii in May 2007 as part of AAMAS 2007. The 16 revised full papers were carefully selected from numerous submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The volume contains the papers presented at the workshop, together with papers resulting from discussions on tools and platforms. This volume constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, AOSE 2009, held in Budapest, Hungary, in May 2009 as part of AAMAS 2009, the 8th International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems. The 10 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from numerous initial submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers have been organized into three sections on multi-agent organizations, concrete development techniques, and - one step higher - going beyond the concrete technique and proposing a development method for designing concrete types of systems. This state-of-the-art survey is rounded off by five additional lectures addressing key areas in development: agent-oriented modelling languages, implementation of MAS, testing of MAS, software processes, and formal methods for the development of MAS. They permit analysis of the current state in the generation of specifications of MAS, the way these specifications can be implemented, how they can be validated, and what steps are necessary to do so.

This book constitutes revised selected papers of the 7th International Workshop on Formal Aspects of Component Software, FACS 2010, held in Guimarães, Portugal, in October 2010. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the International Workshop on Coordination, Organization, Institutions and Norms in Agent Systems, COIN 2008, held as two events at AAMAS 2008, the 7th International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems in Estoril, Portugal, in May 2008 and at AAAI 2008, the 23rd AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Chicago, IL, USA, in July 2008. This volume is the 4th in a series focussing on issues in Coordination, Organizations, Institutions and Norms (COIN) in multi-agent systems. Since the mid 1980s, software agents and multi-agent systems have grown into a very active area of research and also commercial development activity. One of the limiting factors in industry take-up of agent-technology, however, is the lack of adequate software engineering support. The Agent-Oriented Software Engineering Workshop, AOSE, focuses on the synergies and cross fertilization between software engineering and agent research.This volume presents both thoroughly revised selected papers from the AOSE 2010 workshop held at AAMAS 2010 in Toronto, Canada in May 2010 as well as invited articles by leading researchers in the field. The papers cover a broad range of topics related to software engineering and agent-based systems, with particular attention to the integration of concepts and techniques from multi-agent systems with conventional engineering approaches on the one hand, and to the integration of agent-oriented software engineering and methodologies with conventional engineering processes on the other hand.

Itisourpleasuretopresentthepapersacceptedforthe22ndInternationalWo- shop on Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing held during October 8–10 2009 in Newark Delaware, USA. Since 1986, LCPC has became a valuable venueforresearchersto reportonworkinthegeneralareaofparallelcomputing, high-performance computer architecture and compilers. LCPC 2009 continued this tradition and in particular extended the area of interest to new parallel computing accelerators such as the IBM Cell Processor and Graphic Processing Unit (GPU). This year we received 52 submissions from 15 countries. Each submission receivedatleastthreereviewsandmosthadfour.ThePCalsosoughtadditional externalreviewsforcontentiouspapers.ThePCheldanall-dayphoneconference on August 24 to discuss the papers. PC members who had a con?ict of interest were asked to leave the call temporarily when the corresponding papers were discussed. From the 52 submissions, the PC selected 25 full papers and 5 short paperstobeincludedintheworkshopproceeding,representinga58%acceptance rate. We were fortunate to have three keynote speeches, a panel discussion and a tutorial in this year's workshop. First, Thomas Sterling, Professor of Computer Science at Louisiana State University, gave a keynote talk titled “HPC in Phase Change: Towards a New Parallel Execution Model.” Sterling argued that a new multi-dimensional research thrust was required to realize the design goals with regard to power, complexity, clock rate and reliability in the new parallel c- puter systems.ParalleX,anexploratoryexecutionmodeldevelopedbySterling's group was introduced to guide the co-design of new architectures, programming methods and system software.

OnbehalfoftheOrganizingCommitteewearepleasedtopresenttheproceedings ofthe2007SymposiumonSoftwareComposition(SC2007).ThegoalofSC2007 wastobringtogethertheresearchandindustrialcommunitiesinordertoaddress the challenges of the component-based softwaredevelopment approach. SC 2007 was the sixth symposium on software composition in the SC series that seeks to develop a better understanding of how software components may be used to build and maintain large software systems. This LNCS volume contains the revised versions of the papers presented at SC 2007, which was held as a satellite event of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS) in Braga, Portugal, March 24–25, 2007. The symposium began with a keynote on “Composition by Anonymous Parties” by Farhad Arbab (CWI and Leiden University). The main program consisted of six technical sessions related to speci?c aspects of component-based software development. In response to the call for papers, we received 59 submissions from over 20 countries and 6 continents. Each paper was reviewed by at least three Program Committeemembers.TheentirereviewingprocesswassupportedbyMicrosoft's Conference Management Toolkit. In total, 15 submissions were accepted as full papers and 5 submissions were accepted as short papers.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Trustworthy Global Computing, TGC 2008 held in Barcelona, Spain, in November 2008. The 12 revised papers presented together with one invited paper were carefully selected from 26 submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The TGC 2008 symposium papers focus on providing tools and frameworks for constructing well-behaved applications and for reasoning about their behavior and properties in models of computation that incorporate code and data mobility over distributed networks with highly dynamic topologies and heterogeneous devices.

Agent and multiagent concepts offer higher level abstractions and mechanisms which address issues such as knowledge representation and reasoning, communication, coordination, cooperation among heterogeneous and autonomous parties, perception, commitments, goals, beliefs, and intentions all of which need conceptual modeling. The AOSE 2005 workshop sought to examine the credentials of agent-based approaches as a software engineering paradigm, and to gain an insight into what agent-oriented software engineering will look like, and what its benefits will be. This book represents the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, AOSE 2005, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in July 2005 as part of AAMAS 2005. The 18 revised full papers were carefully selected from 35 submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers are organized in topical sections on modeling tools, analysis and validation tools, multiagent systems design, implementation tools, and experiences and comparative evaluations.

In 2008 the Workshop on Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing left the USA to celebrate its 21st anninversary in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Following its long-established tradition, the workshop focused on topics at the frontierofresearchanddevelopmentinlanguages,optimizingcompilers,appli- tions, and programming models for high-performance computing. While LCPC continues to focus on parallel computing, the 2008 edition included the pres- tation of papers on program analysis that are precursors of high performance in parallel environments. LCPC 2008 received 35 paper submissions. Eachpaper received at least three independent reviews, and then the papers and the referee comments were d- cussed during a Program Committee meeting. The PC decided to accept 18 papers as regular papers and 6 papers as short papers. The short papers appear at the end of this volume. The LCPC 2008 program was fortunate to include two keynote talks. Keshav Pingali's talk titled “Amorphous Data Parallelism in Irregular Programs” - gued that irregular programs have data parallelism in the iterative processing of worklists. Pingali described the Galois system developed at The University of Texas at Austin to exploit this kind of amorphous data parallelism. The second keynote talk, “Generic ParallelAlgorithms in Threading Building Bocks (TBB),” presented by Arch Robison from Intel Corporation addressed very practical aspects of using TBB, a production C++ library, for generic p- allel programming and contrasted TBB with the Standard Template Library (STL).

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 20th International Workshop on Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing, LCPC 2007, held in Urbana, IL, USA, in October 2007. The 23 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on reliability, languages, parallel compiler technology, libraries, run-time systems and performance analysis, and general compiler techniques.

The development of modern complex software-intensive systems often involves the use of multiple DSMLs that capture different system aspects. Supporting coordinated use of DSMLs leads to what we call the globalization of modeling languages, that is, the use of multiple modeling languages to support coordinated development of diverse aspects of a system. In this book, a number of articles describe the vision and the way globalized DSMLs currently assist integrated DSML support teams working on systems that span many domains and concerns to determine how their work on a particular aspect influences work on other aspects. Globalized DSMLs offer support for communicating relevant information, and for coordinating development activities and associated technologies within and across teams, in addition to providing support for imposing control over development artifacts produced by multiple teams. DSMLs can be used to support socio-technical coordination by providing the means for stakeholders to bridge the gap between how they perceive a problem and its solution, and the programming technologies used to implement a solution. They also support coordination of work across multiple teams. DSMLs developed in an independent manner to meet the specific needs of domain experts have an associated framework that regulates interactions needed to support collaboration and work coordination across different system domains. The articles in the book describe how multiple heterogeneous modeling languages (or DSMLs) can be related to determine how different aspects of a system influence each other. The book includes a research roadmap that broadens the current DSML research focus beyond the development of independent DSMLs to one that provides support for globalized DSMLs.

In recent years, social and organizational aspects of agency have become major research topics in MAS. Recent applications of MAS on Web services, grid c- puting and ubiquitous computing highlight the need for using these aspects in order to ensure social order within such environments. Openness, heterogeneity, and scalability of MAS, in turn, pose new demands on traditional MAS int- action models and bring forward the need to look into the environment where agents interact and at di?erent ways of constraining or regulating interactions. Consequently, the view of coordination and governance has been expanding to entertain not only an agent-centric perspective but societal and organizati- centric views as well. The overall problem of analyzing the social, legal, economic, and technolo- caldimensionsofagentorganizations,andthe co-evolutionofagentinteractions, provide theoretically demanding and interdisciplinary research questions at d- ferent levels of abstraction. The MAS research community has addressed these issues from di?erent perspectives that have gradually become more cohesive around the four notions in the title to the workshop: coordination, organization, institutions, and norms. The COIN workshops are thus designed to consolidate the subject by providing focus events that reach researchers from diverse c- munities working in related topics and facilitate more systematic discussion of themes that have been treated from various perspectives. This year, the COIN workshops were hosted during AAMAS 2006, (on June 9,in Hakodate,Japan)and ECAI2006(on August28,in Rivadel Garda,Italy). The papers contained in this volume are the revised versions of a selection of thosethatwerepresented in these workshops.

Research in software composition investigates models and techniques to build systems from prede?ned, pretested, reusable components instead of building them from scratch. In recent years, this idea has largely been adopted by - dustry. In the shape of service-oriented architecture, software composition has becomeanin?uentialdesignparadigm,especiallyforthe (re-)organizationofthe IT infrastructure of organizations.On the technical level, the standardization of Web services and other composition technologies has further matured. Current research in software composition aims at (further) developing c- position models and techniques. The aspect-oriented programming and design paradigm, for instance, has gained interest in the research community as a c- position (support) model. Other current research questions concern the sp- i?cation of component contracts, in particular making explicit its observable behavior, and methods of correct components composition. The International Symposium on Software Composition provides a premier forum for discussing these kinds of research questions and presenting original research results. This LNCS volume contains the proceedings of the 5th International S- posium on Software Composition, which was held as a satellite event of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS) in Vienna, Austria, March, 25-26 2006. The symposium started with a keynote on “Semantically Enabled Service-Oriented Architectures” given by Dieter Fensel, DirectoroftheDigitalResearchInstitute.Themainprogramconsistedofpres- tations of research papers on software compositions. These proceedings contain the revised versions of the papers presented at SC 2006.

Started by small group of well known scientists with the aim of sharing knowledge, experiences, and results on all aspects of cluster computing, the initiative of a workshop on cluster computing received more attention after IFIP WG 10.3 and IEEE Romania Section accepted our request for sponsorship. Moreover, the application for a NATO ARW grant was successful, leading to a greater interest in the workshop. In this respect, we have to say that we chose Romania in order to attract scientists from Central and Eastern European countries and improve the cooperation in the region, in the field of cluster computing. We had an extremely short time to organize the event, but many people joined us and enthusiastically contributed to the process. The success of the workshop is wholly due to the hard work of the organizing committee, members of the program committee, key speakers, speakers from industry, and authors of accepted papers. The workshop consisted of invited and regular paper presentations, followed by discussions, on many important current and emerging topics ranging from sheduling and load balancing to grids. The key speakers devoted their time and efforts to presenting the most interesting results of their research groups, and we all thank them for this. All papers were peer reviewed by two or three reviewers.

One of the most important reasons for the current intensity of interest in agent technology is that the concept of an agent, as an autonomous system capable of interacting with other agents in order to satisfy its design objectives, is a natural one for software designers. Just as we can understand many systems as being composed of essentially passive objects, which have a state and upon which we can perform operations, so we can understand many others as being made up of interacting semi-autonomous agents. This book brings together revised versions of papers presented at the First International Workshop on Agent-Oriented Software Engineering, AOSE 2000, held in Limerick, Ireland, in conjunction with ICSE 2000, and several invited papers. As a comprehensive and competent overview of agent-oriented software engineering, the book addresses software engineers interested in the new paradigm and technology as well as research and development professionals active in agent technology.

This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the International Workshop on Agents, Norms and Institutions for Regulated Multiagent Systems, ANIREM 2005, and the International Workshop on Organizations in Multi-Agent Systems, OOOP 2005, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, July 2005. This is the first volume in a new series on issues in Coordination, Organizations, Institutions and Norms (COIN) in multi-agent systems. Topics include modeling, analyzing and programming organizations and more.

The second instance of the international summer school on Generative and Transformational Techniques in Software Engineering (GTTSE 2007) was held in Braga, Portugal, during July 2–7, 2007. This volume contains an augmented selection of the material presented at the school, including full tutorials, short tutorials, and contributions to the participants workshop. The GTTSE summer school series brings together PhD students, lecturers, technology presenters, as well as other researchers and practitioners who are interested in the generation and the transformation of programs, data, models, metamodels, documentation, and entire software systems. This concerns many areas of software engineering: software reverse and re-engineering, model-driven engineering, automated software engineering, generic language technology, to name a few. These areas di?er with regard to the speci?c sorts of metamodels (or grammars, schemas, formats etc.) that underlie the involved artifacts, and with regard to the speci?c techniques that are employed for the generation and the transformation of the artifacts. The?rst instance of the school was held in 2005 and its proceedings appeared as volume 4143 in the LNCS series.

Software development for the automotive domain has become the enabling te- nologyforalmostallsafety-criticalandcomfortfunctionso?eredtothecustomer. Ninety percentofallinnovations inautomotive systems aredirectly or indirectly enabled by embedded software. The numbers of serious accidents have declined in recent years, despite constantly increasing tra?c; this is correlated with the introduction of advanced, software-enabled functionality for driver assistance, such as electronic stability control. Software contributes signi?cantly to the - tomotive value chain. By 2010 it is estimated that software will make up 40% of the value creation of automotive electrics/electronics. However, with the large number of software-enabled functions, their int- actions, and the corresponding networking and operating infrastructure, come signi?cant complexities both during the automotive systems engineering p- cess and at runtime. A central challenge for automotive systems development is the scattering of functionality across multiple subsystems, such as electronic control units (ECUs) and the associated networks. As an example, consider the central locking systems (CLS), whose functionality is spread out over up to 19 di?erent ECUs in some luxury cars. Of course, this includes advanced functi- ality, such as seat positioning and radio tuning according to driver presets upon entry, as well as unlocking in case of a detected impact or accident. However, thisexampledemonstratesthatmodernautomotivesystemsbridgecomfort-and safety-critical functionality. This induces particular demands on safety and - curity, and, in general, software and systems quality. The resulting challenges and opportunities were discussed, in depth, at the second Automotive Software Workshop San Diego (ASWSD)2006, on whose results we report here.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 13th International Workshop on Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing. It also contains extended abstracts of submissions that were accepted as posters. The workshop was held at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York. As in previous years, the workshop focused on issues in optimizing compilers, languages, and software environments for high performance computing. This continues a trend in which languages, compilers, and software environments for high performance computing, and not strictly parallel computing, has been the organizing topic. As in past years, participants came from Asia, North America, and Europe. This workshop re?ected the work of many people. In particular, the members of the steering committee, David Padua, Alex Nicolau, Utpal Banerjee, and David Gelernter, have been instrumental in maintaining the focus and quality of the workshop since it was?rst held in 1988 in Urbana-Champaign. The assistance of the other members of the program committee – Larry Carter, Sid Chatterjee, Jeanne Ferrante, Jans Prins, Bill Pugh, and Chau-wen Tseng – was crucial. The infrastructure at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center provided trouble-free logistical support. The IBM T. J. Watson Research Center also provided?nancial support by underwriting much of the expense of the workshop. Every year we witness acceleration in the availability, deployment, and use of distributed applications. However building increasingly sophisticated applications for extant and emerging networked systems continues to be challenging for several reasons: – Abstract models of computation used in distributed systems research often do not fully capture the limitations and the unpredictable nature of realistic distributed computing platforms; – Fault-tolerance and ef?ciency of computation are dif?cult to combine when the c- puting medium is subject to changes, asynchrony, and failures; – Middleware used for constructing distributed software does not provide services most suitable for sophisticated distributed applications; – Middleware services are speci?ed informally and without precise guarantees of e- ciency, fault-tolerance, scalability, and compositionality; – Speci?cation of distributed deployment of software systems is often left out of the development process; – Finally, there persists an organizational and cultural gap between engineering groups developing systems in a commercial enterprise, and research groups advancing the scienti?c state-of-the-art in academic and industrial settings. The objectives of this book are: (1) to serve as a motivation for de?ning future research programs in distributed computing, (2) to help identify areas where practitioners and engineers on the one hand and scientists and researchers on the other can improve the state of distributed computing through synergistic efforts, and (3) to motivate graduate students interested in entering the exciting research?eld of distributed computing.

Since the 1980s, software agents and multi-agent systems have grown into what is now one of the most active areas of research and development activity in computing generally. One of the most important reasons for the current intensity of interest in the agent-based computing paradigm certainly is that the concept of an agent as an autonomous system, capable of interacting with other agents in order to satisfy its design objectives, is a natural one for software designers. This recognition has led to the growth of interest in agents as a new paradigm for software engineering.This book reflects the state of the art in the field by presenting 14 revised full papers accepted for the second workshop on this topic, AOSE 2001, together with five invited survey articles. The book offers topical sections on societies and organizations, protocols and interaction frameworks, UML and agent systems, agent-oriented requirements capture and specification, and analysis and design.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th European Conference on Modelling Foundations and Applications, ECMFA 2015, held as part of STAF 2015, in L`Aquila, Utaly, in July 2015. The 13 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 54 submissions. The committee decided to accept 13 papers, 9 papers for the Foundations Track and 4 papers for the Applications Track. Papers on a wide range of MBE aspects were accepted, including topics such as aspect-oriented modeling, model management, model transformation, advanced meta-modeling, UML modeling tools, and domain-specific modeling w.r.t. energy consumption and cloud-based systems.

This volume was published in honor of Rocco De Nicola's 65th birthday. The Festschrift volume contains 27 papers written by close collaborators and friends of Rocco De Nicola and was presented to Rocco on the 1st of July 2019 during a two-day symposium held in Lucca, Italy. The papers present many research ideas that have been influenced by Rocco's work. They testify his intellectual curiosity, versatility and tireless research activity, and provide an overview of further developments to come. The volume consists of six sections. The first one contains a laudation illustrating the distinguished career and the main scientific contributions by Rocco and a witness of working experiences with Rocco. The remaining five sections comprise scientific papers related to specific research interests of Rocco and are ordered according to his scientific evolution: Observational Semantics; Logics and Types; Coordination Models and Languages; Distributed Systems Modelling; Security.

This LNCS volume contains the papers presented at the First Swarm, Evolutionary and Memetic Computing Conference (SEMCCO 2010) held during December 16–– 18, 2010 at SRM University, Chennai, in India. SEMCCO 2010 marked the beginning of a prestigious international conference series that aims at bringing together researchers from academia and industry to report and review the latest progress in the cutting-edge research on swarm, evolutionary, and memetic computing, to explore new application areas, to design new bio-inspired algorithms for solving specific hard optimization problems, and finally to create awareness on these domains to a wider audience of practitioners. SEMCCO 2010 received 225 paper submissions from 20 countries across the globe. After a rigorous peer-review process involving 610 reviews in total, 90 fu- length articles were accepted for oral presentation at the conference. This corresponds to an acceptance rate of 40% and is intended for maintaining the high standardsof the conference proceedings. The papers included in this LNCS volume cover a wide range of topics in swarm, evolutionary, and memetic computing algorithms and their real-world applications in problems selected from diverse domains of science and engineering.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 7th European Performance En- neering Workshop (EPEW 2010), held in Bertinoro, Italy, on September 23–24, 2010. The purpose of this workshop series is to gather academic and industrial researchers working on all aspects of performance engineering. This year the workshop was structured around three main areas: system and network p- formance engineering, software performance engineering, and the modeling and evaluation techniques supporting them. This edition of the workshop attracted 38 submissions, whose authors we wish to thank for their interest in EPEW 2010. After a careful review process during which every paper was refereed by at least three reviewers, the Program Committee selected 16 papers for presentation at the workshop. We warmly thank all the members of the ProgramCommittee and all the reviewersfor their fair and constructive comments and discussions. The workshop program was enriched by two keynote talks given by Marco Roccetti and Ralf Reussner.
