This book contains the revised and extended versions of selected papers from the 15th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence, ICAART 2023, held in Lisbon, Portugal, during February 22–24, 2023. The 23 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 306 submissions. The conference was organized in 2 tracks as follows: One track focuses on Agents, Multi-Agent Systems and Software Platforms, Distributed Problem Solving and Distributed AI in general. The other track focuses mainly on Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Representation, Planning, Learning, Scheduling, Perception Reactive AI Systems, and Evolutionary Computing and other topics related to Intelligent Systems and Computational Intelligence.

This book contains the revised and extended versions of selected papers from the 12th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence, ICAART 2020, held in Valletta, Malta, in February 2020. Overall, 45 full papers, 74 short papers, and 56 poster papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 276 initial submissions. 23 of the 45 full papers were selected to be included in this volume. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Formal Techniques for Safety-Critical Systems, FTSCS 2019, held in Shenzhen, China, in November 2019.The 6 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 submissions. Additionally, the volume presents 1 invited paper, 1 tool paper, and 1 work in progrerss. This book contains revised selected papers from the 18th International Conference on Membrane Computing, CMC 2017, held in Bradford, UK, in July 2017. The 18 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 29 submissions. They deal with membrane computing (P systems theory), an area of computer science aiming to abstract computing ideas and models from the structure and the functioning of living cells, as well as from the way the cells are organized in tissues or higher order structures. The volume also contains 2 invited talks.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Membrane Computing, CMC11, held in Jena, Germany, in August 2010 - continuing the fruitful tradition of 10 previous editions of the International Workshop on Membrane Computing (WMC).The 23 revised full papers presented together with 4 invited papers and the abstracts of 2 keynote lectures were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers address in this volume cover all the main directions of research in membrane computing, ranging from theoretical topics in the mathematics and computer science to application issues. A special attention was paid to the interaction of membrane computing with biology and computer science, focusing both on the biological roots of membrane computing, on applications of membrane computing in biology and medicine, and on possible electronically based and bioinspired implementations.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks, ADHOCNETS 2014, held in Rhodes, Greece, in August 2014. The 16 regular and invited papers presented were carefully selected and reviewed from numerous submissions and cover a wide range of applications, such as mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks, vehicular networks, intelligent transportation systems, wireless sensor networks security.

This volume is based on the contributions to the International Workshop on the Web and Databases (WebDB'98), held in Valencia, Spain, March 27 and 28, 1998, in conjunction with the Sixth International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT'98). In response to the workshop call for papers, 37 manuscripts were submitted to the program committee. The review process was conducted entirely by- mail. While the quality of submissions was generally high, only 16 papers could be accepted for presentation within the limited time allowed by the workshop schedule. Authors of workshop papers were invited to submit extended versions oftheirpapersforpublicationinthesepost-workshopproceedings.The13papers appearing in this volume were submitted and selected after a second round of reviews. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the two thematic workshops held jointly with Networking 2002: WEB Engineering and Peer-to-Peer C- puting. Networking 2002 was organized by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and was sponsored by the IFIP working groups WG 6.2 (Network and Intern- work Architectures), WG 6.3 (Performance of Communication Systems), and WG 6.8 (Wireless Communications). The program of the conference covered?ve days and included the main conference (three days), two tutorial days, and one day of thematic workshops. TheInternationalWorkshoponWebEngineeringwasdedicatedtothedisc- sionoftheprincipalissuesthatemergeinthedesignandimplementationoflar- scale, complex, Web-based systems. Scalability issues pose a number of ch- lenging problems to solve for both applications and the underlying web/network infrastructure. On one hand, web services and internet applications must take into account network performance and transport protocol design, to achieve - ceptable performance and robustness. On the other hand, emerging network and Web technologies are determined by the requirements of these applications. Fifteen papers were presented that illustrated the current state of the art in this area. In addition to the authors of these papers, the Workshop on Web Engine- ing was attended by about thirty participants, who contributed to the workshop by stimulating fruitful discussions at the end of each presentation. Thus, this workshop provided a excellent opportunity for researchers, from both industry and academia, to gather, exchange ideas, and discuss recent results in the dev- opment of Web-based systems and emerging Internet applications.

The papers in this volume were presented at the workshop “Innovative Internet Community Systems 2003” held on June 19–21, 2003 in Leipzig. IICS 2003 was the thirdworkshopintheIICSseries.Thepurposeofthese workshopsisto bring together researchers in the area of system and information management for the Next Generation Internet (NGI). Like the preceding two workshops, IICS 2001 and IICS 2002, this year's workshop was organized by the Gesellschaft fur ¨ Informatik (GI) in Germany to support the exchange of experiences, results and technology in the area of focus. The 21 papers (2 invited, 19 other contributions) presented at the conference and in the present volume were selected from more than 30 submissions. Electronic Commerce, as a gamut of activities involving electronic transactions performed over a network via software that may be more or less autonomous, is an emerging reality. Strategic studies have shown that electronic commerce is a major growth industry. The book is devoted to the challenges and opportunities that electronic commerce opens for agent technology. For some time, electronic commerce has attracted the avid attention of agent-builders and agent technology researchers, and these have decisively contributed to advancing the state of the art in the field. The second-generation software agents now entering the scene hold great promise for the further advancement of electronic commerce. This book originates from a workshop on Agent-Mediated Electronic Trading held at Agents'98 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in May 1998. The eleven carefully reviewed and revised papers present a unique survey of software agents in the context of electronic commerce.

This collection represents the proceedings of the 1st GSFC/JPL Workshop on Radical Agent Concepts (WRAC), which was held on 16–18 January, 2002 at the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) Conference Center in McLean, VA, USA. Over the past few years, agent technologyhas emerged as a powerful force in computing. Agent technology may well form the foundation for the next gen- ation of computing systems. New and innovative agent concepts and techniques may bring further developments to this exploding area of research. Such work is often strongly inspired by theoretical or empirical studies of human behavior, social intelligence, psychology, arts, biology, computer science and philosophy. Thisworkshopaimedatbringingtogether,inaninterdisciplinaryevent,or- inal thinkers, practitioners and academics with an interest in radical (very - novative) concepts for agent-based systems. The workshop provided a forum to present the latest research?ndings in many aspects of agent technology. The - ganizers welcomed participation by those working in agent architectures, agent communities, agent communications, agent modeling, agent applications and other agent-related areas. We were particularly seeking papers on novel and - novative ideas, pushing the envelope of current agent technology. Contributions without a prototype or working system, i.e., purely conceptual contributions, were welcomed, and ”out-of-the-box” thinkers were especially encouraged to participate. The workshop was structured so as to allow the participants adequate time for discussion and interaction, to exchange ideas and re?ect on the motivations, scienti?c grounds and practical consequences of the concepts presented.

Every year we witness acceleration in the availability, deployment, and use of distributed applications. However building increasingly sophisticated applications for extant and emerging networked systems continues to be challenging for several reasons: – Abstract models of computation used in distributed systems research often do not fully capture the limitations and the unpredictable nature of realistic distributed computing platforms; – Fault-tolerance and ef?ciency of computation are dif?cult to combine when the c- puting medium is subject to changes, asynchrony, and failures; – Middleware used for constructing distributed software does not provide services most suitable for sophisticated distributed applications; – Middleware services are speci?ed informally and without precise guarantees of e- ciency, fault-tolerance, scalability, and compositionality; – Speci?cation of distributed deployment of software systems is often left out of the development process; – Finally, there persists an organizational and cultural gap between engineering groups developing systems in a commercial enterprise, and research groups advancing the scienti?c state-of-the-art in academic and industrial settings. The objectives of this book are: (1) to serve as a motivation for de?ning future research programs in distributed computing, (2) to help identify areas where practitioners and engineers on the one hand and scientists and researchers on the other can improve the state of distributed computing through synergistic efforts, and (3) to motivate graduate students interested in entering the exciting research?eld of distributed computing.

1 WorkshopTheme Data mining as a discipline aims to relate the analysis of large amounts of user data to shed light on key business questions. Web usage mining in particular, a relatively young discipline, investigates methodologies and techniques that - dress the unique challenges of discovering insights from Web usage data, aiming toevaluateWebusability,understandtheinterestsandexpectationsofusersand assess the e?ectiveness of content delivery. The maturing and expanding Web presents a key driving force in the rapid growth of electronic commerce and a new channel for content providers. Customized o?ers and content, made possible by discovered knowledge about the customer, are fundamental for the establi- ment of viable e-commerce solutions and sustained and e?ective content delivery in noncommercial domains. Rich Web logs provide companies with data about their online visitors and prospective customers, allowing microsegmentation and personalized interactions. While Web mining as a domain is several years old, the challenges that characterize data analysis in this area continue to be formidable. Though p- processing data routinely takes up a major part of the e?ort in data mining, Web usage data presents further challenges based on the di?culties of assigning data streams to unique users and tracking them over time. New innovations are required to reliably reconstruct sessions, to ascertain similarity and di?erences between sessions, and to be able to segment online users into relevant groups.

With the development of the World-Wide Web, data management problems have branched out from the traditional framework in which tabular data is processed under the strict control of an application, and address today the rich variety of information that is found on the Web, considering a variety of?exible envir- ments under which such data can be searched, classi ed, and processed. Da- base systems are coming forward today in a new role as the primary backend for the information provided on the Web. Most of today's Web accesses trigger some form of content generation from a database, while electronic commerce often triggers intensive DBMS-based applications. The research community has begun to revise data models, query languages, data integration techniques, - dexes, query processing algorithms, and transaction concepts in order to cope with the characteristics and scale of the data on the Web. New problems have been identi ed, among them goal-oriented information gathering, management of semi-structured data, or database-style query languages for Web data, to name just a few. The International Workshop on the Web and Databases (WebDB) is a series of workshops intended to bring together researchers interested in the interaction between databases and the Web. This year's WebDB 2000 was the third in the series, and was held in Dallas, Texas, in conjunction with the ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Wireless Algorithms, Systems, and Applications, WASA 2013, held in Zhangjiajie, China, in August 2013. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 18 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 80 submissions. The papers cover the following topics: effective and efficient state-of-the-art algorithm design and analysis, reliable and secure system development and implementations, experimental study and testbed validation, and new application exploration in wireless networks.

The 2009 International Conference on High-Performance Networking, Computing and Communication Systems and the 2009 International Conference on Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (ICHCC -ICTMF 2009) were held during December 13–14, 2009, in Sanya, Hainan Island, China. ICHCC -ICTMF 2009 was a comprehensive conference focused on the various aspects of advances in high-performance networking, computing, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences provided a chance for academic and industry profe- ionals to discuss recent progress in the area of high-performance networking, com- ting, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences were co-sponsored by the Intelligent Information Technology Application Research Association, Hong Kong and Wuhan Institute of Technology, China. The goal was to bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of this area. We received 60 submissions. Every paper was reviewed by three Program C- mittee members, and 15 were selected as regular papers for ICHCC -ICTMF 2009, representing a 25% acceptance rate for regular papers. The participants of the conference had the chance to hear from renowned keynote speakers Jun Wang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Chin-Chen Chang from Feng Chia University, Taiwan. Introduction The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) is a non-profit umbrella organization for national societies working in the field of information processing. It was founded in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO. It is organized into several technical c- mittees. This book represents the proceedings of the 2008 conference of technical committee 8 (TC8), which covers the field of infor- tion systems. TC8 aims to promote and encourage the advancement of research and practice of concepts, methods, techniques and issues related to information systems in organisations. TC8 has established eight working groups covering the following areas: design and evaluation of information systems; the interaction of information systems and the organization; decision support systems; e-business information systems: multi-disciplinary research and practice; inf- mation systems in public administration; smart cards, technology, applications and methods; and enterprise information systems. This conference was part of IFIP's World Computer Congress in Milan, Italy which took place 7-10 September 2008. The occasion celebrated the 32nd anniversary of IFIP TC8. The call for papers invited researchers, educators, and practitioners to submit papers and panel proposals that advance concepts, methods, techniques, tools, issues, education, and practice of information systems in organi- tions. Thirty one submissions were received.

These proceedings contain the papers selected for presentation at the 23rd Inter- tional Information Security Conference (SEC 2008), co-located with IFIP World Computer Congress (WCC 2008), September 8–10, 2008 in Milan, Italy. In - sponse to the call for papers, 143 papers were submitted to the conference. All - pers were evaluated on the basis of their signi?cance, novelty,and technical quality, and reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. Reviewing was blind meaning that the authors were not told which committee members reviewed which papers. The program committee meeting was held electronically, holding - tensive discussion over a period of three weeks. Of the papers submitted, 42 full papers and 11 short papers were selected for presentation at the conference. A conference like this just does not happen; it depends on the volunteer efforts of a host of individuals. There is a long list of people who volunteered their time and energy to put together the conference and who deserve acknowledgment. We thank all members of the program committee and the external reviewers for their hard work in the paper evaluation. Due to the large number of submissions, p- gram committee members were required to complete their reviews in a short time frame. We are especially thankful to them for the commitment they showed with their active participation in the electronic discussion.

This two-volume set LNCS 4805/4806 constitutes the refereed proceedings of 10 international workshops and papers of the OTM Academy Doctoral Consortium held as part of OTM 2007 in Vilamoura, Portugal, in November 2007. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First Asian Semantic Web Conference, ASWC 2006, held in Beijing, China, in September 2006. The 36 revised full papers and 36 revised short papers presented together with three invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from 208 full paper submissions. This book constitutes the joint refereed proceedings of the three workshops held in conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Web Information Systems, WISE 2006, in Wuhan, China, in October 2006. A total of 90 papers were submitted to the three workshops, and 31 revised full papers were carefully selected for presentation. The Workshop on Web Information Access and Digital Library (WIADL 2006) - which aims at improving and facilitating Web information access by using digital libraries - included 14 out of 41 submissions. The Workshop of Web-Based Massive Data Processing (WMDP 2006) accounted for 13 papers, from 39 papers submitted. It discusses how to effectively and efficiently collect, extract, store, index, query and analyze massive data that has been accumulated in many web-based applications such as deep Web applications and Web search engines. The Workshop on Advances in Web-based Learning included 4 presentations selected from 10 submissions. New ideas on Web-based learning are presented - using the Web to access vast amount of information and resources - that allow implementing a range of new teaching and learning practices.

We are delighted to welcome you to the proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Semantic and Digital Media Technologies held in Athens. SAMT 2006 aims to narrowthe large disparity between the low-level descr- tors that can be computed automatically from multimedia content and the ri- ness and subjectivity of semantics in user queries and human interpretations of audiovisual media — The Semantic Gap. SAMT started out as two workshops, EWIMT 2004 and EWIMT 2005, that quickly achieved success in attracting high-quality papers from across Europe and beyond. This year EWIMT turned into the full-?edged conference SAMT, bringing together forums, projects, - stitutions and individuals investigating the integration of knowledge, semantics and low-level multimedia processing, and linking them with industrial engineers who exploit the underlying emerging technology. In total, 68 papers were submitted to the SAMT 2006 conference and each was reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. We are grateful to the membersoftheTechnicalProgramCommitteewhocompletedthesereviewsand allowed us to put together a very strong technical program of 17 papers. The selection process was very competitive with only 25% of papers being selected for oral presentation. The program also included two invited keynote talks from Alan Smeaton and Guus Schreiber, and we are very grateful to them for their insightful presentations.
