The 33rd International Conference “Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science” (WG 2007) took place in the Conference Center in old castleinDornburgnearJena,Germany,June21–23,2007.Theapproximately80 participants came from various countries all over the world, among them Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, UK, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and the USA. WG 2007 continued the series of 32 previous WG conferences. Since 1975, the WG conference has taken place 20 times in Germany, four times in The Netherlands, twice in Austria as well as once in Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, France and in Norway. The WG conference traditionally aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer science, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent researchresults and to identify and exploredirections of future research. Thecontinuinginterestinthe WGconferenceswasre?ectedin thehighn- ber of submissions; 99 papers were submitted and in an evaluation process with four reports per submission, 30 papers were accepted by the Program Comm- tee for the conference. Due to the high number of submissions and the limited schedule of 3 days, various good papers could not be accepted. There were invited talks by Ming-Yang Kao (Evanston, Illinois) on algori- mic DNA assembly, and by Klaus Jansen (Kiel, Germany) on approximation algorithms for geometric intersection graphs.

This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Int- national Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT) which was organized in Brno, Czech Republic, from August 30 to September 1 of 2006. The PATAT conferences, which are held every 2 years, bring together - searchers and practitioners from across the broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary research activity in search methodologies for automated timetable generation. This includes university timetabling, school timetabling, personnel rostering, transportation timetabling, sports scheduling. The programme of the 2006 c- ference featured 70 presentations which represented the state of the art in au- mated timetabling: there were four plenary papers, 17 full papers, 41 extended abstracts, and eight system demonstrations. After the conference, all authors were invited to submit their papers to a second round of rigorous refereeing for this volume of selected revised papers. We are pleased to have accepted 25 - pers for this volume. This?gure represents the highest number of acceptances in a PATAT post-proceedings volume and is a testament to the high standards of the papers that were submitted. The organization of the book is structured around particular problem areas.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Computers and Games, CG 2004, held in July 2004. The 21 revised full papers presented together with one keynote article were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement from 37 submissions. The papers cover all aspects of artificial intelligence in computer-game playing. Topics addressed include evaluation and learning, search, single-agent search and planning, and computer Go.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Learning and Optimization, LION 8, which was held in Gainesville, FL, USA, in February 2014. The 33 contributions presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. A large variety of topics are covered, such as algorithm configuration; multiobjective optimization; metaheuristics; graphs and networks; logistics and transportation; and biomedical applications.

VECPAR is a series of international conferences dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of high-performance computing for computational science, as an industrial technique and academic discipline, extending the fr- tier of both the state of the art and the state of practice. The audience for and participants in VECPAR are seen as researchers in academic departments, g- ernment laboratories and industrial organizations. The whole conference programme consisted of 6 invited talks, 61 papers and26posters,outof130contributionsthatwereinitiallysubmitted.Themajor themes were divided into large-scale numerical and non-numerical simulations, parallel and grid computing, biosciences, numerical algorithms, data mining and visualization. This postconference book includes the best 48 papers and 5 invited talks presented during the three days of the conference. The book is organized into 6 chapters, with a prominent position reserved for the invited talks and the Best Student Paper. As a whole it appeals to a wide research community, from those involved in the engineering applications to those interested in the actual details of the hardware or software implementations, in line with what, in these days, tends to be considered as computational science and engineering (CSE).

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Learning and Optimization, LION 7, which was held in Catania, Italy, in January 2013. The 49 contributions presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 101 submissions. They explore the intersections and uncharted territories between machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematical programming and algorithms for hard optimization problems.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of TYPES 2007, the concluding conference of the Types project, held in Cividale del Friuli, Italy, in May 2007. The 13 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 22 submissions. The topic of this last annual workshop of the Types Working Group was formal reasoning and computer programming based on type theory. Great importance was attached to languages and computerized tools for reasoning, and applications in several domains such as analysis of programming languages, certified software, formalization of mathematics and mathematics education.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Algebraic Informatics, CAI 2007, held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in May 2007. The papers cover topics such as algebraic semantics on graphs and trees, formal power series, syntactic objects, algebraic picture processing, infinite computation, acceptors and transducers for strings, trees, graphs, arrays, etc., and decision problems.

These are the proceedings of the Workshop on Sequences, Subsequences, and Consequences that was held at the University of Southern California (USC), May 31 - June 2, 2007. There were three one-hour Keynote lectures, 16 invited talks of up to 45 minutes each, and 1 “contributed” paper. The theory of sequences from discrete symbol alphabets has found practical applications in many areas of coded communications and in cryptography, - cluding: signal patterns for use in radar and sonar; spectral spreading sequences for CDMA wireless telephony; key streams for direct sequence stream-cipher cryptography; and a variety of forward-error-correctingcodes. The workshopwasdesigned to bring leading researcherson “sequences”from aroundtheworldtopresenttheirlatestresults,interchangeinformationwithone another, and especially to inform the larger audience of interested participants, includingfaculty,researchers,scholars,andstudentsfromnumerousinstitutions, as well as the readers of these proceedings, about recent developments in this important?eld. There were invited speakers from Canada, China, Germany, India, Israel, Norway, Puerto Rico, and South Korea, in addition to those from the USA. Thisvolumecontainsaselectionofpapersfromthe4thInternationalConference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT 2002) held in Gent, August 21–23, 2002. Since the?rst conference in Edinburgh in 1995, the range of timetabling applications at the conferences has become broader and more diverse. In the s- ected papers volume from the 1995 conference, there were just two contributions (out of 22) which did not speci?cally address school and university timetabling. In the selected papers volume from the 1997 conference in Toronto, the number of papers which tackled non-educational problems increased. Two of the papers addressed more than one timetabling application. In both of these papers, educational applications were considered in addition to other applications. A further three papers were concerned with non-educational applications. The conference steering and programme committees have worked hard to attract a wide range of timetabling applications. In the conference held in Konstanz in 2000, the diversi?cation of timetabling problems increased signi?cantly. Of the 21 selected papers in the postconference volume, just 13 were speci?cally concerned with educational timetabling. In the previous volumes, the papers had been sectioned according to solution technique. In the Konstanz volume the papers were classi?ed according to application domains. One section of the volume was entitled “Employee Timetabling,” while sports timetabling, air?eet scheduling, and general software architectures for timetabling were also represented. In the present volume, more than one-third of the 21 papers discuss problems in application areas other than academic and educational ones. Sports timetabling and hospital timetabling are particularly wellrepresented.

This book presents a selection of revised full papers accepted for presentation at the First International Conference on Biology, Informatics, and Mathematics, JOBIM 2000, held in Montpellier, France, in May 2000.The 13 papers included in the book were selected after two rounds of reviewing and revision from a total of 67 submissions. The refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Developments in Language Theory, DLT 2002, held in Kyoto, Japan in September 2002. The 28 revised full papers presented together with 8 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 63 submissions. Among the topics addressed are grammars and acceptors for strings, graphs, arrays, etc; efficient algorithms for languages; combinatorial and algebraic properties of languages; decision problems; relations to complexity theory, logic picture description and analysis, DNA computing, cryptography, concurrency, quantum computing, and algebraic systems.

This volume contains the key contributions to workshops and meetings that were held within the context of the PRELUDE project. PRELUDE, an acronym for “Towards Theoretical Pragmatics based on Ludics and Continuation Theory”, ran from November 2006 to November 2009, with funding from the new French National Agency for Research (ANR). The objective of the project was to develop perspectives on Natural Language Semantics and Pragmatics based on recent developments in Logic and Theoretical Computer Science; the articles shed light on the role of Ludics in the study of speech acts, inferential semantics, game-theoretical frameworks, interactive situations in the dynamics of language, the representation of commitments and interaction, programming web applications, as well as the impact of Ludics on the fundamental concepts of computability.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Advances in Computer Games, ACG 2005, held in Taipei, Taiwan, in September 2005 in conjunction with the 10th Computer Olympiad. It contains 20 papers that cover all aspects of artificial intelligence in computer-game playing.

A large amount of the capacity of today's computers is used for computations that can be described as computations involving real numbers. In this book, the focus is on a problem arising particularly in real number computations: the problem of veri?edor reliablecomputations. Since real numbersare objects c- taining an in?nite amount of information, they cannot be represented precisely on a computer. This leads to the well-known problems caused by unveri?ed - plementations of real number algorithms using?nite precision. While this is t- ditionally seen to be a problem in numerical mathematics, there are also several scienti?c communities in computer science that are dealing with this problem. This book is a follow-up of the Dagstuhl Seminar 06021 on “Reliable Imp- mentation of Real Number Algorithms: Theory and Practice,” which took place January 8–13, 2006. It was intended to stimulate an exchange of ideas between the di?erent communities that deal with the problem of reliable implementation of real number algorithms either from a theoretical or from a practical point of view. Forty-eight researchers from many di?erent countries and many di?erent disciplines gathered in the castle of Dagstuhl to exchange views and ideas, in a relaxed atmosphere. The program consisted of 35 talks of 30 minutes each, and of three evening sessions with additional presentations and discussions. There were also lively discussions about di?erent theoretical models and practical - proaches for reliable real number computations.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Semantics in Databases, held in Dagstuhl Castle, Germany, in January 2001. The 10 revised full papers presented together with an introduction by the volume editors were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing. Among the aspects of database semantics discussed are semantic constraints, paraconsistency, logic foundations of databases, ER modeling, type hierarchies, null values, consistency enforcement, logic-based pattern languages, and semantic classification of queries. Among the classes of databases dealt with are deductive databases, relational databases, distributed information systems, and tree-structured data.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics, PPAM 2002, held in Naleczow, Poland, in September 2001.The 101 papers presented were carefully reviewed and improved during two rounds of reviewing and revision. The 28th International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer? Science (WG 2002) was held in Cesky ´ Krumlov, a beautiful small town in the southern part of the Czech Republic on the river Vltava (Moldau), June 13–15, 2002. The workshop was organized by the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. Since 1975, WG has taken place in Germany 20 times, twice in Austria and The Netherlands, and once in Italy, Slovakia, and Switzerland. As in previous years, the workshop aimed at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in Computer Science, or by extracting new problems from applications.The workshop was devoted to the theoretical and practical aspects of graph concepts in computer science, and its contributed talks showed how recent research results from algorithmic graph theory can be used in computer science and which graph-theoretic questions arise from new developments in computer science. Altogether 61 research papers were submitted and reviewed by the program committee. The program committee represented the wide scienti?c spectrum, and in a careful reviewing process with four reports per submission it selected 36papersforpresentationattheworkshop.Thereferees'commentsaswellasthe numerous fruitful discussions during the workshop have been taken into account by the authors of these conference proceedings.
